McClay is an historian and author of many books, most notably and recently: Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story. He is the GT and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty, where he teaches students about the evolution of the concept of libert in Western Civilization, and he is also Director of the Center for the History of Liberty—all at the U of Ok. And he is a member of the US Commission on the Semi-quincentennial, which has been charged with planning the celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026
