All right , all right , all right , buenos , ding-dong-niddly-dees everybody . Thank you for tuning in to the Straight Love Podcast . Jim and I are looking Jim's pointing at the Roy G Biv . Roy G Biv , that's right , right there . Yeah , the Jim .
I don't know if any of you have heard that acronym before , but it's a way to be able to make sure that you remember the order of the chakra colors .
Well , it's the spectrum , the color spectrum , the color spectrum .
Yeah , that's the order . Say it again Like a rainbow ROYGBIV , roygbiv .
Which stands for Red , orange , yellow , green , blue , indigo , violet .
Brilliant , okay , so ROYGBIV , which will be the name of this episode . I am , of course course , your host of most , most roast ep with me , always and forever . Uh is the cricket himself . Jimmy , how are you me , my , um , my uh , cosmic brother I'm good man , how are you good good ?
ah , if you haven't done so already , head on over instagram , do the things and the stuff , follow us , tell us you love us and , uh , send us messages , kisses , dick pics , whatever you got , man , we're into all of it . I'll do the edit on this one , jim , don't worry . Yeah , it's all coming out .
I only do it to make you blush , man , that's all um , where would you like
¶ Top 10 Ways to Happiness
to begin ? Because I got a couple of things that I would like to talk . You can go if you want . Well , for those of you that don't know , jim and I have a guidebook for happiness , yeah , we do um , and I was doing some online research , uh , scouring the web to find out , uh , the top 10 ways , methods that you can use in order to be happy .
Um , one of those methods , of course , is surprise , surprise , journaling . So , if you haven't done so already , pick up a copy of our guidebook . It is in the show notes and it is in the bio on instagram straight love , str , the number eight , dot , love . Uh , jim and I put our heart , our souls and a lot of our cosmic beings into this guidebook .
We're super proud of it . But , um , look , gratitude practice it works , man . Yeah , um it it . Cultivating that on a daily basis really does make you happier . The , the , the science is out there and it's , it's . It seems pretty indisputable at this point . Yeah , what else do you think is on this list , man , when it comes to happiness ?
well , I would imagine basic fundamentals of living like security , safety , all those types of things are a big proponent and component of it .
Okay . So I'm glad that you said that , man , because happiness it's a lot . It's a lot less complicated than I think that we make it out to be . Right , we chase a lot of things in life that we think are going to make us happy but don't necessarily end up making us happy .
Right , being material things , money , all the things that seem to be forced down our throat when it comes to social media , uh , things that you see on TV and all that kind of stuff . Um , we had talked about a gratitude practice . That's on there .
The relationships that you have in your life , cultivating those things , friendships , romantic relationships , those are the things that are really going to make sure that your life is fruitful and happy in life . Um , big , big surprise . Staying physically active , man .
Yeah , getting your steps in every day , going to the gym , taking care of your physical body that's one of the pillars in our guidebook . A lot of people , for whatever reason , don't make their health a priority .
And that's also a very science thing , of course . Like there's no . That's indisputable as well . Absolutely indisputable , absolutely just the impact that that has totally , man .
When you feel good , when you look good , you feel good , you're gonna be good , you're gonna be happy . Uh , prioritize sleep . Yeah , surprise , surprise again , going to bed is the greatest isn't bed the best place to be ? Honestly ,
¶ Sleep and Stress Management
um , and it doesn't mean going to bed and then scrolling on tiktok for six hours . You know it means lights out . Do you have a tiktok ? No , you don't . I sure don't man , absolutely not . No , I'm a 45 year old man . I have no business being on tiktok . Okay , should I make us an account ?
no no , okay you would be the only one who would be having to manage it .
I wouldn't even know where to begin with tiktok , to be honest , but uh , you know if I ever wanted to hand my information over to the chinese government I'd probably just send them an email . Yeah , um . So yeah , sleep um . What do you like ? Do you have a sleep routine , man ? Do you have blackout drapes , all ?
that , yeah , I do you do it ?
yeah , I do . What's your sleep routine looks like like ? Do you do melatonin ? Do you magnesium ?
308 oh , yeah , yeah , okay do that 45 minutes before bed , yeah , I don't really have necessarily a super predefined routine , other than I just really try to get in there as early as I possibly can do you like to have a sleep a set time that you're in , that you're in bed all the time ? Uh , yeah , like I really .
If I'm not in there by 10 , 30 the latest , then I start to get like antsy about it and not you know , I get a bit displeased with myself .
Oh , there you go . Okay , so you want to make sure that you're in your jammy jams . You got your warm glass of milk by 1030 . That's how that works . Lights out 1030 lights out 1030 .
If or , if it's earlier , all the there you go .
Yeah , who doesn't want to be in bed man ?
And honestly I will say I mean I not always , but when it permits , which is usually , I will say but like weekends , you know Friday , saturday , something like that to to get everything that I need to get done during the day . Let's say it's just whatever Saturday do whatever it needs to be done .
I get a lot of enjoyment knowing that everything's kind of taken care of or I've accomplished everything that I've wanted to take care of for that day and it'll be like 730 and I'll say , well , you know what I'm going to start winding down .
Start , you know , do the dishes if they need to be done , get myself together to go to bed and like , getting into bed at 830 to read , full well , knowing that elephants are going to sit on my eyelids within a matter of moments , I , I really enjoy that .
There you go , man . Hey look , we're at a different point in our life as well , right ? Yeah like I mean when 45 versus 25 , you're gonna have different priorities and sleep is just more of a priority at this point in time and , yeah , you just feel better about your life when you're fully rested . Yeah , stress management and practicing mindfulness .
Yeah , stress management , man , stress number one killer out there . A lot of people don't realize that . Yeah , they should get with it , absolutely . I was talking to my uh I think I've told this story before on this on the podcast but my chiropractor we were talking about um , um , how .
When he hears about somebody having a heart attack , a lot of people will say , geez , you know how old was he ? What was his diet , like that kind of stuff . And he says the first question that he asked is what did he do for a living ? How stressful was his job ? We don't realize that stress is .
I mean , it's killing us , man , when you think about your body in a stressful state , like the tension that you're holding always going around , just like tensed up all the time , that can't be good for your circulatory system , you know I agree .
I , um , is there more , do you have more ? Because I it's kind of like a good segue , the whole thing is a good segue I got one , two , three , four more oh yeah , I'll cycle through them quick here . So I'll cycle through them quick here .
So I'll keep knocking them off uh , find a purpose and a meaning . This is a big one that kind of seems to be out there right now . Find a purpose what are you doing ? What are you here for ? You got to have a something that's bigger than yourself .
Yeah , meaning , on the other hand and I'm not sure why these two are together , but , um , purpose , I was kind of thought , is you know , like what , like , what do you , what do you put on this planet for ? And then meaning is kind of a little bit more .
I actually have a very admin opinion about this and I think it is important for absolutely everybody , and the opinion that I have on it is I don't necessarily think uh , I'm sort of thinking about this right now , on the spot it may be not necessarily exactly has to be um , for the greater good of the world ,
¶ Finding Purpose and Learning Languages
but it has to be for the greater good of you , and by that I mean it has to be constructive , it has to be something for you , it has to be something that does something to bring you to a higher place , a higher vibration .
Something to bring you to a higher place , a higher vibration yeah , buzzword there , which then makes it better for the greater world , for the greater good . that's how I view it , and you have to be the one to decide it right , and I promise it's not going to be cheetos and netflix .
What it's going to be is it's going to be um , if , if , if keeping a really clean home is important to you , then you put your time and energy into that , because cleanliness and orderliness is a higher vibration . If reading a book a month is important to you , then that is a good , constructive way to spend your time and to exercise your mind .
How about learning Spanish , brother , learning Spanish ? If that is something that's important to you , then that is a constructive thing . Again , to exercise your mind and you learn a useful skill .
Right , and I'm very adamant about people deciding what they want to make important and , honestly , like , some things can be really , really I don't want to use the word insignificant or trivial , but they can be things like that yeah as long as it's like , in my opinion , something that represents you or sort of defines you , even if it's something like , I don't
know , you like to have a certain color of shoelaces on the shoes that you own right , and so it's like a little part of your identity and creativity that doesn't take a lot of your time , but maybe it's something that just makes you feel good to be you sure , something that you believe about yourself . I dig that man .
It could be something as small as that , or it could be something as great as any of those other things , or volunteering your time , or whatever the case might be , but I think we all know really , at the end of the day , the stuff that doesn't mean shit .
Absolutely , absolutely . And and side note here the reason I brought up learning Spanish is because Jim , right now , is on a 41 day consecutive winning streak of learning Spanish every single day using Duolingo , which is an app that you can all download and is also a sponsor of the podcast .
I don't know if you knew that or not , jim , but Duolingo Not falling .
Not falling again . But Jim actually inspired me as well . They've given us both a free account . Some sponsor .
Jim actually inspired me as well , though I'm on a 14-day streak of my own A 15-day streak , I think , as of this morning , also learning spanish . So in the not too distant future , jim and I have pledged to do an entire episode on espanol . Si , yeah , yeah , um come manzanas not on the air that would be very distracting yeah , they would hate that .
That's rude almost hey , how's this for a segue ? Eat a healthy diet , just like manzanas . Yeah , this force is strong with this one . Well , jim and I I mean we've this is we're preaching the choir here . We've talked about garbage and gargoyle man , right ?
I mean , whatever you're putting into your body should really be to fuel it , and that means that doesn't mean that you can't have you know , chocolate covered pretzels on a semi , maybe not ?
semi regular basis . Yeah , yeah , yeah , yeah .
But you know you don't want to rob yourself of certain things but at the same time , you know you can't be eating like that every single day . Yeah , a cart full of Gushers at Costco is , yeah , it's not gonna . It's not gonna be good for anybody . All right , two left man . Uh , be generous and give back .
Yes .
Charitable donations , volunteer your time . Um , when you give , you receive Yep . And then uh , oh sorry , I lied , there's two more Engage in enjoyable activities , do what you love and , finally , regularly reflect and reevaluate . Super good , this is a really good one , and one that I kind of wanted to expand on a little bit
¶ Life Reviews and Project Teaser
. I think that we wait sometimes until the end of our life to do a life review . Don't wait until the end , man . Do one now . Are you midlife , like Jim and I are ? Now is a perfect time to reflect , though . Like where are you at in your life ? What have you accomplished ? Look back , be proud of some of the things that you've done .
If you're coming up short in other places , you've still got time . You still got time . Don't wait until the end . Where you don't have time anymore , do it now , you know . Figure out where some of the places are where you just like to improve on things . Where are some of the places you still want to go ?
What are some of the things that you still want to do ? You got one shot at this life . Don't wait until the end to look back . Do it now . Do it now .
There's there's lots of different forms and PDFs and all sorts of different things you can download online and you can fill them out and really give yourself a good overview of , maybe , where you're at in life and what you'd still like to be able to accomplish or do or not do .
Yeah , yeah . It's always very good to genuinely reflect on things and do you do life reviews man ? I don't know if I necessarily do that . I necessarily do that . I mean , I certainly reflect on aspects of life absolutely and , uh , how maybe certain circumstances have gone or certain decisions that I've made that haven't been the greatest .
I probably should maybe try to acknowledge ones that have been good ones , yeah , but but but I do .
Yeah , what a good reminder , though , man , you know , to give yourself maybe a pat on the back once in a while . Yeah , you know , it's just like , like , hey , like , look at all I've done , look , look at what I've built , look at what I have .
A lot of people say you know , like it's , you know there's a lot of luck involved in certain things or certain good fortune that's happened . But I mean , you still have to put in taking on a project where you and I build our own life review that we can share with the listeners . Oh , maybe we could give it away free as part of the journal guidebook .
Sure , yeah , we could talk about that . Huh , how about that ? We just we just , you know came to this agreement now . This , now , this is a this is a profound moment .
This is real life .
No , seriously , man , I think it would be number one , I think it would be um helpful . Yeah , and again , not charging anybody anything , I only give up . If anything , I would put a link right next to the guidebook and say , here , download this .
Here We'll slap some , uh , some straight love branding on there , and it would be nice to see what people uh get out of it . Or I would certainly do it . I think life reviews are , I think it's , I think it's uh , I think it's a good exercise . Let's just put it that way Okay , yeah , we're committed to discuss . Yeah , all right , all right , okay .
So what else did this segue into ? Man ?
Because I feel like I've I don't know . You want to save it for the next one .
Oh , yeah , yeah , why not ? Okay , yeah , so we knock this one out now . Sure , that was pretty good , eh ? Top 10 ways to be happy .
Yeah .
Again , don't overcomplicate things . Everything that we've talked about is very attainable . Yeah , it is . Is is , for some reason , not as easy as we make it out to be , and it's not inside and it's not outside anywhere , right ? A lot of these things are things that you're cultivating within .
Oh yeah , yeah , I don't . There's nothing I can add to that . That's , that's enough . Boat . That's as succinct as that can be .
I wouldn't , I wouldn't add a number 11 . And if you can find yourself a friend like Jim , thanks , it's like . I mean it's guaranteed happiness , right ? Well ?
I appreciate that it's a two-way street . It's not just one-way traffic .
Yeah , absolutely Two-way
¶ Episode Wrap-up
streets . That's another secret to happiness right there yeah . Trying to figure out a way to wrap this up .
Yeah , let's . Yeah , I've got something for the next . We'll save it for the next one .
Okay , we'll save it for the next one and you and I will talk more about this life review that we're going to create .
Okay .
Very exciting man too . Yeah , all right , thanks for everybody for listening . Go be happy . Love you , buddy , love you too .
Bye , bye , bye . I'm feeling it , if the time is right , I know you're my way , baby , I'm feeling it .
