Welcome to the Stop Drinking Podcast , where we help you make stopping drinking a simple , logical and easy decision . We help you with tips , tools and strategies to start living your best life when alcohol-free . If you want to learn more about stop drinking coaching , then head over to wwwsoberclearcom . For close to 10 years , I struggled to stop drinking .

I tried everything , I tried going to AA meetings , I tried stopping on my own more times than I can count and nothing was working for me . But for the past six years , I have not had a drop of alcohol and , most importantly , I've had no desire to drink whatsoever .

And today , in this video , I'm going to unpack the dark tactic that I use to not only stay sober and not want to drink , but also what I use to change the trajectory of my life . When I stopped drinking alcohol , I was truly at ground zero .

I was 20 pounds overweight , I had terrible self-confidence , I wasn't in a relationship , I had no money In fact , I was borrowing money off my family and fast forward just a few years and I've become unrecognizable to who I was before .

After stopping drinking , I've traveled the entire world , I've got into another relationship , I've built this online business , soberclearcom , where we've worked with over 400 business owners and professionals , helping them stop drinking in a coaching program .

I've built this YouTube channel to almost 100,000 subscribers now , and six years ago , the trajectory of my life was an early grave . I was going absolutely nowhere , except you know , who knows what would have happened if I kept on that path .

But through using the dark tactic that I'm going to break down for you in this video , everything in my life has changed , and today you're going to learn exactly how to use it not only for your own drinking , but to change your entire life .

So if you drink alcohol or if you've spent any period of your life drinking , whilst you drink , your brain is totally , and if you look at your life and you're not in the shape that you want to be in , you don't have the bank account that you want , you don't have the investment portfolio you want .

Your business isn't where you want it to be , your relationship isn't where you want it to be . The reason is because of what I'm breaking down in this video .

So our brains are totally hooked on dopamine and we think that we're in control of our life , but actually it's this little chemical in our brain that dictates pretty much everything that we do , and it's why it's so easy to pick up your phone instead of picking up a book . Our brain is basically this dopamine-seeking creature whatever you want to call it .

It's just looking for the path of least resistance to get dopamine . When I used to drink alcohol , there were things that I wanted to do . I had a vision of who I actually wanted to be . I wanted to be in good shape , I wanted to have some kind of business , I wanted to be in a good relationship and I actually wanted to start YouTube a long time ago .

But every single time that I was drinking I would make very little progress on any of these goals , if any at all . Basically , anything meaningful that I wanted to do , I'd procrastinate , I'd push it off , I'd do it tomorrow , I'd do it later .

And the problem was is that when I was drinking alcohol , there was an instant source of dopamine that was always there in my life . So let's say it's 8 pm at night , I'm craving a drink , I really want to drink , but I know that I've got this thing that I couple . It's that instant source of dopamine .

What I wasn't getting was any dopamine from working on my long-term goals . I was like a rat with a cocaine dispenser just all the time . Just drink , drink , drink . And for me is nine times out of 10, . I would opt for the shortcut .

I would opt to drink and I would opt to drink instead of going to the gym , I would opt to drink instead of doing any kind of difficult work or making any kind of decision . And I was stuck in this cycle of escapism for years . And it wasn't until I actually stopped drinking alcohol six years ago that I started realizing what was actually going on .

So when I stopped drinking alcohol , I used something called first principles thinking . I got into a state of mind where I stopped seeing alcohol as something that added value into my life and I was able to make a real decision .

And when I say a decision I mean a true cutoff point where I was able to just say you know what I'm done , I'm putting this behind of me , I ain't drinking anymore Again . If you want information on how that works , you've got to click the link in the description to watch that video training .

But I remember that when I stopped drinking alcohol , I remember the first kind of couple of weeks . I was a little bit bored , I didn't feel myself , I didn't really want to go out . I didn't really want to talk to people and don't get me wrong , I still did these things but I just remember lying in bed at night just being like is this it ?

And a lot of people that stop drinking alcohol , they're afraid of this boredom . They're afraid of this feeling of what am I going to do with my time . Now I'm not drinking alcohol , but actually this boredom is pretty much the secret to getting what you want in life . We're living in this crazy world right now where nobody's okay with being bored .

We sit down and think of something to do , but then we instantly pull out our phone or we play a video game or we turn on the TV . Everybody's escaping and what we're all doing is just aligning ourselves with this instant form of dopamine .

But what happened to me when I stopped drinking alcohol is I removed this insane source of dopamine Because at the end of the day , alcohol is a drug . The amount of dopamine that that releases is just crazy . But when I stopped drinking alcohol , I started going back to the gym immediately . Within a couple of weeks I'd started a new business .

I'd started personal training again , I was taking courses and I was just pushing right . I was really just saying I'm getting my life back on track , and at first it was hard , but afterwards there was a switch and what started happening is I started associating dopamine with these activities instead of associating dopamine with going out and getting sh** based .

But all of a sudden , it started being easier to make the right food choices . It started being easier to go to the gym . It started being easier to go to a gym floor and then go and try and get customers for the personal training business that I started .

Then , fast forward a few months , I booked a one-way flight to Thailand trying to figure out how to do an online business , but then , all of a sudden , the hard work that I had to do was a lot easier . You know , sitting down and making a video and concentrating and focusing .

These things started to actually become enjoyable , and these were things that I spent years just procrastinating on , escaping from just saying , ah nah , I'd rather just do something else and go and have a drink . But because I removed that source of dopamine , the meaningful things that I had to work on became so much easier to do .

And this is really the secret when you stop drinking alcohol , what you want to do is immediately say what do I want for my life and start taking action as fast as possible .

What you don't want to do when you stop drinking is sit around and wait for some magical moment where , all of a sudden , you feel better , because what you want to do is just start immediately doing things that the future you will thank you for , and what ends up happening is you start getting dopamine from these activities instead .

It's why people like Bradley Cooper becomes a world famous celebrity and an amazing actor after stopping drinking , because he's no longer escaping . He's now doing something that the future him will thank him for . He's working hard , he's building his craft , he's doing this kind of stuff , and it's why we see so many people who stop drinking alcohol .

Their entire life just starts skyrocketing . Now don't get me wrong . This is something that I need to stay on top of , and we all need to stay on top of it .

If I wake up and I pull out my phone and then go into my emails or play a game of chess first thing in the morning when I open my eyes , of course my day isn't going to be the same , but a big thing for me is making sure that I wake up and I don't go to that instant dopamine source and when I do that I create so much more Like I've not done

it today . And making videos today feels fun . Sometimes it's not . Sometimes it's really hard work , but because I didn't go for that instant source of cheap dopamine first thing in the morning , it's a lot easier .

But I promise you one thing when you remove alcohol from your life and you start associating dopamine and fun and enjoyment from these activities that the future you will thank you for it's game over your life will be totally unrecognizable in just a few years .
