I've had many blackouts on New Year's Eve and for the 10 years that I drank alcohol for New Year's Eve was a disaster . And if you've drank alcohol this New Year's Eve and you're waking up today and you're thinking , damn it , why did I even bother ? This video is for you .

It just seems to just go . But this is the video I wish I watched when I relapsed on New Year's Eve seven years ago .
It might have even been eight years ago , I can't remember and definitely stick around to the end of the video because at the moment we have spaces open on the Sober Clear program .

Just wait to the end of the video for the announcement on how you can get involved in that .
So , going back to what I was talking about earlier the relapse I had a period of my life where I stopped drinking with nothing other than willpower . Long story short , and I've told this story many times , so if you're regular on this channel , just bear with me .
When I was living in Cardiff , the capital of Wales , I went out one night with an empty stomach and I was drinking every single day . At this point I'd just finished working , I'd just finished a shift , I'd finished work at 10 pm at night .
This was when I was a student and I drank so much that the next day I'd woken up I'd vomited on my MacBook and I'd actually vomited blood . It was disgusting , right , it was one of the scariest moments of my life and that got me over .
I just used willpower and I didn't drink for I can't remember the exact amount of time , but it was like six , seven or eight months . But I was just resisting , right , I was using willpower . I'm sure you've tried willpower in the past where you just tell yourself , right , I'm not going to drink anymore . Alcohol causes some kind of pain .
You're like I've had enough , and then you just resist it . You might go out and everybody's drinking and you're like , oh , I'd love to drink , but I told myself I'm not going to drink and you just keep doing this until it ends up not working . Don't get me wrong . Some people can use willpower for years . For me , it was a very short term solution .
But long story short is , I was using willpower . I went out on a New Year's Eve evening and what I started doing was I started associating a feeling of missing out with alcohol . I thought everybody was having a good time because they were drinking , which is totally , totally untrue . It was a good time because it's New Year's Eve . It's a fun night .
Long story short , I ended up drinking again and the morning after I had two options and if you drank last night , you have the exact same two options Now I chose the wrong option and I wish I could go back in time , but it is what it is . So here's how I made the decision to choose that option seven or eight years ago .
I woke up the next day and , because I hadn't drank for six , seven , eight months I'm not going to lie my life was in one of the best places it had ever been . I felt the best I'd ever felt . I was in the best shape I've ever been . I had a personal training business making almost 100,000 US dollars a year .
While I was a student , I was on fire , right . I just was loving life . And guess what happened the day after I drank on New Year's Eve ? Nothing , I had a hangover . I didn't feel bad . But guess what ? I'm going back home . I'm still finishing my degree , still got a good place to live . I was still in a relationship . I had a Mercedes , you know .
Things were good because I'd been building for six , seven or eight months . I was consistent , putting in the work . I had tons of clients in the gym . Things were going so well . So guess what happened next ? I didn't decide to get things back on track .
On that New Year's Day I made this half-hearted attempt to say , all right , well , I'll just go back home and see how it goes . And what do you think happened ? Well , I got back home and everything was fine . So I didn't drink . When I got back home , I didn't drink for a few days .
But then a few days passed and this idea pops in my head hey , leon , it's different now . You know , life's not going necessarily in a really bad place like it used to be when you drank . And you drank and look , you're still functional . So why don't you have another one ? That was the voice in know what .
Maybe this time I can have a better relationship with alcohol , maybe I can control it . So I had a couple of drinks one night . It was fine . And then I woke up , no hangover , feeling good . I controlled it . A couple more days passes by and I think I can do it again . I do it again . A week passes by , it's a weekend , leon , I'm going out tonight .
Do you want to come ? Yeah , of course I want to go out . Boom , six pints . I'm thinking , okay , now I'm , you know . And by this point it's all over . I think a couple of weeks passed and I went and got smashed again . I ended up buying a pack of cigarettes , I started smoking again and all of a sudden it had just gone out of control . It spiraled .
It was like this very tiny snowball . All of a sudden just became this giant snowball , right , and I didn't even notice it happening . And right now you really need to get real with yourself , because if you don't do something , this is the natural path that you will go down . It's just what's going to happen Now .
I don't know if you relapsed last night or if you just overdrained , but it's the same scenario . Are you going to continue ? Are you going to keep going down this path , or are you going to make today the day that you change everything , because there is another option ? You don't beat yourself up , you accept it and you brush it off .
You brush it off and you say today's a new day . Today I'm going to do something different , and if you want to get things back on track , I'm going to give you four concrete steps to follow . The first thing you need to do is reflect on the night . Why do you think that drinking alcohol is going to enhance your life ? We need to get to that question .
We need to find your answer to that question . It's going to be different for different people , but if you can understand why you drink , what beliefs are in your mind that's causing you to take that drink , oh boy , everything's going to be easier because you can study that belief and you can change it .
But just spend a bit of time reflecting on why you thought it was a good idea to drink . The second thing that can be extremely helpful is writing a pain and pleasure list . So get an A4 piece of paper , just cut it down the middle , write down the word pain and then write down the word pleasure On the left .
Write down all the ways that alcohol causes you pain Hangovers right , putting on weight , lack of clarity , lack of self-esteem , just feeling tired and feeling unhealthy . Write down all of the ideas and all of the ways that alcohol is causing you pain , the more the better . 10 is great , 20 is even better , 30 , oh my days , that's good .
And then , on the other side of the page , write down about the pleasure . Write down about the good things and the pleasure that you'll experience if you beat it the energy , the health , feeling in control of your own life , not feeling a slave to a drug . Think about all the good things that can happen . And this is a very powerful list .
The next thing you can do is again journaling . Writing things down is write down five to ten reasons . Five is okay , ten is excellent . Write down five to ten reasons why you are committed to getting things back on track .
Professionals , high-level individuals , and we give them a system to follow that involves reframing the way they view alcohol , using something called first principles thinking . We use coaching to focus on the future , no , going to the past and feeling sorry for yourself . And then we have a community of high-level business owners and professionals .
So you're almost forced to level yourself up because , like they say , in a what is it Like in a rising tide ? All ships rise , something like that . You get the point . Being in the right community makes a massive difference and if you want to see if it's a
