Episode description

On this episode of Stock Movers:

- Eli Lilly (LLY) surprised Wall Street by raising its annual sales and profit forecast, as demand for obesity medications soared and thousands of patients started taking its new weight-loss pill before advertising for the drug had even begun. Lilly shares jumped 7.3% at the start of regular trading in New York, its largest gain since February and continued to rally during the day.

- Caterpillar (CAT)'s shares surged after the company delivered stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings and raised its long-term revenue outlook, supported by fast-growing sales from construction and power generation equipment. Shares rose about 9% in morning trading on Thursday in New York after the US manufacturer said it now expects sales through the end of the decade to grow at a faster clip than it had previously forecast and continued in the green throughout trading.

- Royal Caribbean (RCL) shares rose as the company’s outlook for the year suggests it will be able to weather headwinds such as higher fuel costs and disruptions on its Middle Eastern itineraries. The cruise operator cut its full-year adjusted earnings forecast to $17.10 to $17.50 a share, from $17.70 to $18.10 previously, though the midpoint remains above the $17.14 Wall Street consensus. Demand remains resilient, with April bookings exceeding last year and strength in last-minute reservations, the company said in a statement. Bookings for high-yield Mediterranean itineraries have moderated following recent geopolitical developments, partly due to higher airfares, reduced airline capacity and flight disruptions, though recent weeks have shown a rebound.

The Stock Movers Report, your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market, harnessing the power of Bloomberg Data.

Speaker 3

Let's get to some stocks on the move. I'm Carol master Long with Tim Steneviek. Let's bring in our Noura Melinda. She is Bloomberg TV Chief Markets correspondent, and she joins us here in studio. Let's talk about some of the stocks on the move. Eli Lilly is one of the names you're watching.

Speaker 4

There's so many names on the move today. I tried to avoid the massive tech names that we've been reporting on, so let's talk a little bit about healthcare. I'm looking at shares of Eli Lilly, that's ticker l l Y. We're seeing shares right now hire by about eleven percent.

Speaker 1

This stuff.

Speaker 4

The company had what RBC calls a quote unquote blowout quarter. So we did know that the company raise its annual sales and profit forecasts. This all due to high demand. We know a lot of people have been looking for those gop one drugs, OBC medications, it's new weight line pill. All of this booting the stock higher. So we do see the streets celebrating. Of course, we know this still continues to be a pressured name, and that shares are down about twelve percent so far for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5

All right, from drugs to equipment.

Speaker 1

Do not operate heavy equipment taking drugs.

Speaker 5

I actually got in the very one of these and got to play around with you. Did you now?

Speaker 1

Did you even hear my segue?

Speaker 5

No? What was your says?

Speaker 1

Do not operate heavy machinery while taking these drugs. That's very That was good. That was good. So we don't know if it's GLP one anyway.

Speaker 5

Right, is the.

Speaker 4

Ticker ticker CAT as you mentioned, So we did see that caterpillars all stronger than expected quarterly earnings and raise its long term revenue Outlook, this is the stock that's really been on a tear. Stock US up about fifty five percent so far for twenty twenty six, and we're seeing today's gains just adding to that, the stock up about ten percent right now as we speak. We're really seeing all this positivity really fueled by fast growing sales.

They're citing both construction and power generation equipment. So clearly seeing the street like in this company, and we're really seeing a lot of positivity, a lot of green on the screen for this one.

Speaker 5

All right, so all right, here's a segue.

Speaker 3

Don't take big industrial equipment or farming equipment or digging equipment on a cruise.

Speaker 4

There we go, leave it at home, do not take it on a cruise totally. Another name in the green tickerr rcl Real Caribbean. The outlook for the years suggesting that it may actually be able to weather some of these headwinds that we've been seeing. Airlines, cruise lines, all of these companies that are really impacted by taking cruise you run more right, right, So we are seeing that

they feel as they're able to weather these disruptions. In terms of Middle East itineraries, we talked about demand being resilient. The company is saying that they did see strengthened last minute reservations. Also April bookings exceeding last year or so. This stock is really doing decently well. I mean, on

a year basis down about five percent. But I think this is some really big news thinking about the fact that the company is able to really get past some of these higher fuel costs that we've been talking so much about.

Speaker 3

Quick check on Qualcom because this is a key out performer we talk about the big tech just got about thirty seconds.

Speaker 4

Yes, of course, this one up double digits. Of course because the company said that it's making headway in terms of lucrative data center market. A lot of focus has been on the data center market more broadly than predicting that the China phone industry would bounce back as well. So people really parsing through the results and what this company has to stay. The stock is up about five percent so far for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5

Yeah, but up fourteen percent today.

Speaker 3

Number one gainer in the S and P five hundred and Nasdaq one hundred and some outperformance that we haven't seen in a little bit, maybe in about a year or so, up the most in about a year.

Speaker 5

Good names, good stuff.
