Episode description

Hey doc, in this episode I'm challenging the idea of "experts" in motherhood. I dive into:

  • Why everyone seems to be an "expert" when it comes to motherhood
  • How to approach advice, including mine, as inspiration rather than absolute truth
  • The real purpose behind bringing guests onto the podcast
  • What to expect from upcoming interview episodes

Key takeaways:

  1. You're the expert in your own unique situation
  2. Use advice as a springboard for new ideas, not as strict rules
  3. Our guests are here to help you feel seen and less alone
  4. Longer interview episodes are coming - and they're worth the listen!

Remember, this podcast is about expanding your perspective and finding inspiration, not telling you what to do. You've got this, doc!

Hey doc, I want to talk to you about experts. And the reason I want to talk to you about experts is because everybody is an expert when it comes to motherhood. And I'm sure you know that all of the unsolicited advice that you have gotten since you told somebody that the stick turned pink or whatever color, whatever line,  everybody's an expert.

Everybody has advice. Everybody is making you feel like you don't know what's going on, like you're just overwhelmed, like you're a bad mom, all of these things. And I want to invite you, at least when you come here to Stethoscopes and Strollers, to think about experts, and that includes me.  As a different way to think  as an avenue for new ideas and not as a, you should do this because it is the right thing to do  because it may not be the right thing for you, right?

You are your own person. You are in your own situation in your own life. You have all these very particular things that are unique to you. So yeah, my advice may not work for you.  The purpose of this podcast is not to establish myself as the expert that should be listened to for every single thing.

Even if I may talk like that, that's just how I talk.  I speak with a lot of authority, but that's just me.  But I am telling you, It is not because I know everything and my way is the best way. It is just to invite you to expand the way that you think about certain things. And to, so that you know that there's somebody else doing this thing.

Something that maybe you never even thought of. Or you thought that nobody would ever do. Something that will inspire you. So that's how I want you to think about experts.  Now, what is this really about? So I, um. Starting to invite guests on my podcast and  it may seem like, you know, I'm having experts, mom experts that's going to, they're going to come and tell you what you should do because they have made it out.

No, no, no, that is not what this is about. This is about making sure that you feel seen and less alone. That is always what it's about. So when I bring moms on who have older kids. Because it's going to be a mix, it's going to be moms who have older kids, they will be the light at the end of our tunnel, and also moms who are in the thick of it.

When I bring these people on, they are not experts that are going to tell you this is the way to do it.  It is so that you can get more variation get more perspectives more inspiration or more entertainment because you could be like, oh This bitch is crazy  And then keep it pushing right so at the very least they're gonna make you laugh  with our first guest She can be thought of as an expert Because she's an expert in many things, but that is not why she is here Um, I think you will really enjoy that episode.

I know I did  those interview episodes are going to be longer because even though the individual episodes are really short.  I, I do like to talk. So when I'm talking to somebody else and I'm doing an interview, they tend to go a little bit longer. Let me tell you, if an interview is short, it's because that guest was trash.

So  the longer the interview, the better it is. So you can be Rest assured that if you see a 45 minute podcast episode, it will be worth listening. You can break it up because I know you don't have a whole lot of time. You can listen in parts, but so far I've done two interviews and they are very long, which I know will be a little bit jarring since my episodes are usually like six minutes, but I think it will really be worth it.

So that's it.

I am so excited to have my guests share their stories with you so, like I said, you can feel a little more seen and a lot less alone. All right, doc, you know what to do.
