Episode description

Hey doc! In this episode, I'm diving into the power of your subconscious mind - your personal "algorithm." I explore:

  • How your mind's algorithm works (just like social media!)
  • The impact of what you focus on in your daily life
  • Why you need to be selective about your social media groups and friends
  • The science behind affirmations and why they work
  • How to "hack" your algorithm for more positivity and success

Key takeaways:

  1. Your subconscious mind focuses on what you pay attention to
  2. Be mindful of the content you consume and the company you keep
  3. Affirmations work by training your subconscious, even if you don't believe them at first
  4. You can actively shape your mindset by curating your environment

Remember, doc, you have the power to program your own algorithm. Let's make sure it's set for success!

Hey doc, let's talk about the algorithm. And I don't mean  Mark's algorithm or whoever else I mean your subconscious that beautiful mind That got you so far and helped you achieve so much. I want you to think about it as Like the ultimate algorithm. And I'm going to explain what the hell I'm talking about right now.

So I was in a coaching call with one of my clients and we were talking about ways to increase her revenue. She's a found medicine doc, works at an FQHC and wanted to save up to buy a house.  And you know, what we were discussing was like, you know, you can't really save to XYZ,  especially in her particular situation.

I don't think the solution is working harder. I think it's working smarter, getting higher paying opportunities,   and, we ended up talking about locums. Because it seemed like it would be a good fit for her to have some increased revenue that was also not taking away from her time with her daughter.

And the next day she messaged me and was like, Oh my gosh, the algorithm.  I got a text from a locums recruiter  and I was like, is it the algorithm or is it the universe?  And you know, that's what gave me the idea for this episode because, and I really did tell her that. I was like, Sure, it could have been the algorithm, you know, we talk on WhatsApp, you know, it's connected to Facebook, so he's probably listening and somehow the recruiters are paying for some database that has So You know access to all of our messages and all of that stuff.

I also want to introduce the idea of Your subconscious mind and training it and how it works in general right and this is for everybody. So it's like  Concept like if you are going to buy a car, you're like, okay, I'm gonna get an Audi Whatever, Q4. I don't even know what kind of Audi that is. I just chose a number and Q.

When you decided, okay, I'm going to get this Audi, you talk about it, do some research, all of a sudden you start seeing Audi Q4s everywhere. That's your subconscious. That's not an algorithm.  If you're on a computer, sure, it can't be, but you drive on the street, there are four Audis, when before you never saw one before, that's your subconscious mind showing you  what you are focused on, where you are putting your attention  and that's What they are replicating with these algorithms for social media, right?

Because they know how your mind works. So it's also funny when people say like when you watch those congressional hearings  about social media and these old stuffy Republicans are talking about. Every time I go on TikTok, I just see little girls dancing. Like, sir, you are telling on yourself because if that's what your algorithm is showing you, we know where your attention is.

Okay.  So it's the same thing.  So if that's how your mind works, that is how your subconscious works. Why aren't we more careful with the things that we are exposing it to?  With the constant stream, That comes in mainly from social media  and also the thoughts that we have, the friends that we keep, the media,  family.

Why are we not more careful? Because the algorithm is going to take what you have your attention on and continue showing you all of those things. So if you are in a Facebook group  where every other post is about divorce, I hate my husband.  He's useless.  That's what you're going to see in your own life.

Your algorithm is going to show you  all of the negative things your husband is doing. All of the times that you told him to do something, he didn't do it. And  you are going to start seeing things to confirm what you have your attention on because that's what your algorithm does.  The same thing with  any other topic that is stressing you out, if it's in your heart to open up a private practice.

But you're in a group where it's just like, private practice is dead. Who wants to deal with all of that? I don't want to have to deal with insurance. I don't want all of those things. That is what your, your algorithm is going to show you. It's going to confirm that because that's what you're keeping your attention on.

So on the flip side,  that's where the affirmations come in. Right? That's why  I was never an affirmation person. I still have a hard time doing them, but it is like you are training your algorithm. You're training your subconscious mind to show you the things that you are focused on to attract those things to you and to your life.

And that's how they work. And that's why people who do them religiously report these major changes. And it doesn't even matter if you truly believe what you're seeing.  Just like it doesn't matter if you believe those posts, but if you continue to focus on them, you continue to see them, you don't leave that group,  then that's what you're going to attract.

That's what you're going to see. So that's the beauty of affirmations. You don't have to believe it. So if you are saying, I am a millionaire  over and over, it doesn't matter that you don't believe it, it's the story about Jim Carrey, you know, how he wrote that check to himself. That was a form of an affirmation.

It was a form of training his algorithm, something for him to focus on.  And he put a date on it, and by that date, he got that check for, what was it, Dumb and dumber?  So,  even if you don't believe in affirmations, and you don't believe in whatever else, this is like science, we're all scientists, right? Your subconscious, everybody's subconscious, works the same way.

So I want to challenge you. To be very careful with what you're putting your attention on, with the messages that you are telling yourself,  what you tell yourself in your quiet moments, what media you consume, what social media groups you are in. Be very careful with this algorithm.  Because it's, it's, it's sneaky, just like all the other ones, you don't even realize all of a sudden you're in your own echo chamber of negativity and then you're wondering why you feel so down and why things are falling apart and  yet it's not the only reason, but I think  it plays a bigger role than we realize, so.  The next time you're in a group  and you see  things that don't align with  your values and how you want to live your life and your marriage and your family, you can leave the group. You can block that person because they're usually like the same people. Like  you can sometimes tell in some of these groups,  you can.

Do whatever you, come off the app.  You can stop talking to that friend about certain things or stop talking to them at all.  Protect your algorithm.  And I will also invite you to join Stethoscopes and Strollers Physician Lounge because I created it to be a group where we are focused on thriving. On being better, on having happier marriages, loving our husbands more,  being less stressed because we are fully on board with outsourcing, you know,  fulfilled in our careers because we know what we want and focus on that, make changes in our lives to get where we're going.

Just a positive space, not toxic. Not toxic positivity. You share your struggles too.  Focus on wins. Start the week. Every Monday we start with wins.  All of those things  train in the algorithm. So join. The link is in the show notes. You can also just search Stethoscopes Facebook  and join.  Come on, let's, let's get your algorithm attracting things and showing you things that are just going to make you happy and thriving in this early motherhood season.

And if you are like, I need a little bit more help than that,  my algorithm is all jacked up. Schedule a free coaching session with me. The link is in the show notes as well and on my website. It may take a little more training to get that algorithm right. And it is one of my favorite things to do,  right?

So I will see you on the next episode of Stethoscopes and Strollers. Don't forget to share this episode with another doc who needs to tune up algorithm a little bit, right? I'll see y'all soon. Bye.
