Episode description

We have all seen the clickbait thumbnails that would entice us into clicking on that video on YouTube. Click baits are a mere means of boosting the views on a video. But can it be concerning if journalists start practising it too? Clickbait journalism refers to the practice of using sensational headlines or images to attract readers to a news article or website. Clickbait journalism is considered unethical because it prioritizes generating clicks and views over providing accurate and trustworthy news. It also undermines trust in journalism and can be harmful to democracy.

Stepwell Radio brings you "Clickbait Journalism", a show in conversation with Professor Ananya Desai who is a writer, journalist and faculty at Ahmedabad University. The show talks about how the concept of click-baiting entered into the world of journalism where people with fake headlines would pool consumers to their piece, how the same leads to the spreading of misinformation and how it will inevitably tag along with the journalism.
