Episode description

Can embracing the teachings of Jesus truly transform our daily struggles into profound acts of kindness and love? Join me, Danny Mac, for a soul-stirring Music Monday episode as we unravel the spiritual journey depicted in Zach Williams' inspiring song, "A Little More Like Jesus." We'll explore the inner battles that resonate with many of us, drawing strength from biblical references like Romans 7:15 and James 1:22. Together, we'll learn how to move beyond listeners of the Word to become active doers, impacting the world with Jesus' compassion and grace.
As we look at the song's lyrics, we find ourselves inspired by the vivid imagery of transformation—from moments of defeat to embodying Jesus' hands and feet, reaching out with grace. Let’s reflect on Matthew 10:7-8 and Galatians 5:22-23, discovering how these verses encourage us to cultivate our relationship with Jesus becoming a little more like him every day.

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac . I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day . So grab your cup of coffee , sit back , relax and let me help you start your day right . Hey , good morning everybody . It's really good to be back with you again today after taking a significant break .

I tell you I needed it , but boy am I excited to be back here with you this week , and we're going to start off our week with our Music Monday episode , looking at a song by Zach Williams called A Little More Like Jesus . This song was released back in 2021 . It does something rather unique and powerful .

It captures those times of struggle and the hurdles we encounter on our journey to develop the character of Jesus in our lives , and that the Bible acknowledges the struggles that we must confront in our pursuit of godliness . The song starts out this way oh , I have days I lose the fight . I try my best , but just don't get it right .

When I talk , I talk that I don't walk and miss those moments right before my eyes . In Romans 7 , verse 15 , paul talks about a very common human sentiment . He says do , but what I hate I do , and that inner conflict highlights the challenges that we face in overcoming our own weaknesses and our sinful tendencies .

The song goes on to say I still need help to see the way you see Somebody with a hurt that I could have helped , somebody with a hand that I could have held , but I just can't see past myself . Those words of the song remind us not only of how our attitudes must change .

It talks about how our actions must change , that we need to become involved in people's lives , just like we find in James , chapter 1 and verse 22, . When it says do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves . Do what it says . We must overcome those obstacles in our way to be like Jesus and let the world see his truth shining through us .

There's a powerful statement towards the end of the song where it says oh , I want to feed the beggar on the street . Learn to be your hands and feet Freely give what I receive . Lord , help me be . I want to put you first above all else and love my neighbor as myself . In the moments no one sees , lord help me be .

As Zach has moved through the song , he's gone from saying I have days I lose the fight . I try my best and don't get it right to now . He wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus , reaching out and touching other people's lives and making an impact for Christ . We are reminded of what Jesus said to his disciples in Matthew 10 , verses 7 and 8 .

He said as you go , proclaim this message the kingdom of heaven has come near . Heal the sick , raise the dead , cleanse those who have leprosy , drive out demons Freely . You have received , freely give .

And that's the declaration of someone who has been transformed by the grace and power of Christ , someone who feels they are always being defeated and always losing , to the place where now they are able to go and fight the battle , declaring God's grace and goodness and healing and health , because they have received so much and they are now able to give in abundance

. The chorus of the song speaks these words A little more like mercy , a little more like grace , a little more like kindness , goodness , love and faith , a little more like patience , a little more like peace . And here we find the reminder that we must develop what the Bible calls the fruit of the Spirit From Galatians , chapter 5 , verses 22 and 23 .

It says but the fruit of the Spirit is love , joy , peace , forbearance , kindness , goodness , faithfulness , gentleness and self-control . These virtues represent qualities that we must cultivate , and overcoming the obstacle of our own impatience or lack of self-control is essential to becoming like Jesus .

A Little More Like Jesus by Zach Williams paints a vivid picture of our challenges and our obstacles we encounter on our path to becoming more like Christ .

Scripture provides guidance and encouragement , reminding us that through reliance on God's strength , we can overcome our weaknesses , we can extend love even in adversity , we can practice forgiveness and we can cultivate the fruit of the Spirit .

A little more like Jesus , a little less like me , and I think , if we are really honest with ourselves , we could probably sing this song with a slightly different change . We might want to sing it as a lot more like Jesus and a lot less like me . I hope you've enjoyed looking at this song today .

It's a powerful and wonderfully encouraging song , and I hope you've enjoyed looking at this song today .

It's a powerful and wonderfully encouraging song and I hope you take time to listen to it , and I'm going to leave you with just a clip of it now so that you can catch part of it , but in your show notes there will be the YouTube link that you can click on and listen to the entire thing , which I really , really hope that you will do .
