¶ Theology Explained by Children
right . I think it's fun to hear children talk about what they're learning in Sunday school , because what they say they're learning and what their teachers have actually tried to teach them is often very far apart , and sometimes it's just a lot of fun , and so I want to share some of those with you today .
This is a list I came across that talks about theology as explained by children . Okay , so here we go . This child was asked what was the first book in the Bible . They said well , the first book in the Bible is the book of geniuses , in which Adam and Eve were created from an apple tree . A young Sunday school student was asked about Noah .
He said well , noah built a great big boat and then he loaded all of his family on it , including his wife , whose name was Joan of Arc . The story of Lot's wife being turned into a pillar of salt is one that's often confusing to adults , let alone children . But here's how one youngster portrayed it .
He said Lot's wife was a pillar of salt by day and a ball of fire by night . Samson , one of the heroes of the Old Testament , was known for his great strength and his battle with the Philistines . A young Sunday school student said Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the apostles .
Did you know , according to a Sunday school student , that unleavened bread is made without ingredients ? Oh yeah , and that Moses got the Ten Commandments while on the top of Mount Sinai ? I really like the story of Joshua and his first battle after they crossed the river into the Promised Land .
This young Sunday school student said that Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of Jericho . I guess maybe after they'd been wandering around the desert for 40 years , there were a few that maybe needed Jericho . What about David ? Surely they would get the story of David right .
After all , he was one of the great heroes of the Bible and one of the most famous people of all time . Well , according to a Sunday school student , david fought the Finkelsteins , a race of people who lived in biblical times . And then there was David's son , solomon . Poor old Solomon was in a rather prickly situation . He had 300 wives and 700 porcupines .
Often , the stories of the New Testament don't fare a whole lot better . There was this one young Sunday school student who described Jesus and his followers . He said that they were called the Twelve Decibels . Did you know that the epistles are the wives of the apostles ? I didn't know that before .
I found that quite interesting , and that one of the opossums was St Matthew , oh and Paul . He preached something called Holy Acrimony , which is another name for marriage , and this is my favorite of them all . I've saved it for last that a godly person should have only one wife . This is called monotony . Well , I don't agree with that last statement .
¶ Scripture's True Importance
I do think it's funny , and while we may get a chuckle out of how some of these kids responded to the questions , it's not really all that much different for a lot of people who claim to be Christians about what the Word of God is . A lot of people don't understand what it says and it's very easy for some of the really important things to get messed out .
In 2 Timothy 3 , verses 16 and 17 , it says All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching , for reproof , for correction and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be competently equipped for every good work . The Word of God comes from God , and so it is important for us to know and understand .
We need to know and understand that God created the heaven of the earth , that Jesus Christ was indeed the Son of God and he was fully God and fully man . Even though we can't understand it , it is still true and a very important truth .
We need to know that Jesus Christ died on the cross and he was dead , but then he rose again to new life , to victory over sin and death , stopping what Satan could do . And by doing that he paid the price so that , through faith , we could have a relationship with God that would last forever .
And by doing that , he paid the price so that , through faith , we could have a relationship with God that would last forever . And we need to know that , despite all the evil things we see happening around us , god will
¶ Knowing How the Story Ends
prevail . And let me tell you how I know it . When my wife buys a book that she really wants to read , she'll go to the last chapter first and read how it ends , so that when she goes back to the beginning and starts the book , she can relax because she knows how it's going to end and what's going to happen with the characters .
You see , I've read the back of the Bible . We win . Those who are followers of Jesus Christ win , and so so , if we know the truth of God , there's a whole lot of peace and comfort and strength that we can have along the way . Important thing to remember is we win . God loves us enough and he's paid the price for us that we win .
So don't give up , my friends . Hang on , keep the faith and we will talk to you all again tomorrow . Faith and we will talk to you all
