Episode description

Originally broadcast Sept 13, 2023...Can you imagine witnessing your favorite team pull off the most epic comeback in just three minutes, only to realize you missed it because you'd lost hope? That exact scenario happened to me, Danny Mac, over the weekend with my beloved BC Lions. This rollercoaster of emotions got me thinking about how often we lose faith in our lives when challenges seem insurmountable. In this episode, I share how this sports miracle became a powerful reminder of the importance of maintaining faith and patience, even when solutions don't arrive on our schedule.

Join me as we explore how this game mirrored our everyday struggles, drawing inspiration from scripture to bolster our resolve during testing times. With references to passages like Isaiah 40:29-31 and John 16:33, we'll reflect on how we can renew our strength in times of weariness. We’ll discuss the temptation to rush solutions and how true miracles can happen when we have faith and trust in a timing greater than our own. Let this episode be your encouragement to hold onto hope and embrace the power of patience, even when the pressure is on.

Good morning and welcome to Starting Right with Danny Mac . I'm going to be here every Monday to Friday to help you get a great five-minute start to your day . So grab your cup of coffee , sit back , relax and let me help you start your day right . I want to tell you about an experience that I had this last weekend . I am a big football fan .

Now , the kind of football I'm talking about is the North American kind , and up here in Canada we have the Canadian Football League , which is just a little bit different than the Americans , but the same basic idea . This last weekend I was watching my favorite Canadian football team , the BC Lions . They were playing a team from Ottawa .

I watched most of the game and my BC Lions , who should have been playing a whole lot better and in fact should have dominated the other team , they just weren't doing it . They were down by over two touchdowns with just over three minutes left in the game . To me it looked like it was over . There's no way they could overcome two touchdowns .

In fact , they were going to probably need three touchdowns in order to win , and the way they were playing it just wasn't going to happen . So I turned it off and went about my business . It wasn't until later that evening when I was texting a friend of mine where he said what did you think of that comeback by our Lions ? I said what do you mean ?

They lost , didn't they ? He said no , they won . So I raced around trying to catch some of the highlights and yes , my BC Lions got three touchdowns in under three minutes , setting a new team record for the greatest comeback in the shortest amount of time .

I was ecstatic that they won , but I was kicking myself that I had turned the game off and missed it as it was happening . That got me thinking a little bit . You see , I lost faith in my team . I didn't believe they could pull out a win in those three minutes , but they did .

And I realized that there are times in my life and I think in many of our lives where we do the same kind of thing with God At the beginning of facing a problem . We're on His side , we believe that he is with us and he's going to help us and we're going to find an answer .

But the longer we feel that we're not seeing the answer the way we want it , the more antsy we get to make a change , to maybe try to do something different or to give up on what God is doing .

And as we approach the deadline where we need the miracle to take place , it's not uncommon for any of us to say , okay , god , you haven't done it , you're obviously not going to do it , so I have to do something to solve this problem before the deadline arrives in the next three minutes or the next 24 hours , or whatever your deadline might be .

Or the next 24 hours or whatever your deadline might be . I really like what Isaiah , chapter 40 , verses 29 to 31 , say about all this . Speaking of God . It says he gives strength to the weary and he increases the power of the weak . Even youth grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall . But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength .

They will soar in wings like eagles . They will run and not grow weary . They will walk and not faint . There are times for us when we get weary of waiting and our faith gets tried and tested because God is not acting fast enough and the deadline is approaching . So we panic and we react out of fear and not out of faith .

And if we take action on that fear and try to do something ourselves , we will miss the miraculous that is set to appear right at the time when we need it the most . We can , and often do , miss that because we've decided to take our own action based upon that fear Over .

In John 16 , 13 , jesus said I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace In this world . You will have trouble , but take heart , I have overcome the world . Believe me , I know what it's like to be under the gun and under a time constraint , facing difficult deadlines when we don't know exactly how the answers are going to come together .

But we can hang on to two truths One , that Jesus said that , yeah , we're going to face times like that . It's not because of weakness on our part or mistakes on our part , or sin on our part . We will have times of that kind of testing and trial .

But Jesus said that we can have peace in the world when we are going through these problems , when we are facing them . And then he's promised that not only will he be with us , but that he has overcome the world and all the things it tries to throw at us .

He has overcome , he is our peace , he is our strength and he has promised to never leave us or forsake us . We can hang on to God's promises and his word , and he will be there for us .

Never give up on your faith , never bail on God and , believing that he's going to be able to help you , hang in there , be strong , be wise and let God pull out a last-minute miracle for you as well . He is with you . He loves you . Have a great day , my friends . We will talk again tomorrow .

Thank you for joining us today , and I invite you to join us every Monday to Friday , right here at Starting Right with Danny Mac .
