In 2017, my cousin Deanna Stevison was murdered. Everyone knows who was involved: my cousin’s ex-girlfriend, Meghan, Meghan’s new girlfriend, Amy, and Amy’s mom, Ollie Jane. Three hours after the murder, they all left the police station. No charges were ever filed.

I still have a lot of questions. Who really shot my cousin? Did the police give Amy, a former cop, preferential treatment throughout the investigation? Is it coincidence that the murder happened on both Deanna and Meghan’s anniversary AND the day before Florida’s governor signed into law an amendment making it easier to claim a Stand Your Ground defense? But mostly, will we ever get justice for Deanna?
