In a message of transforming despair to hope, Pastor Mike Luzinski takes a story of a biblical tragedy and shows us how it can be transformed for the future.
Joseph is visited by an angel in a dream and he realizes that his future is not the one he had planned out. Scrooge is shown his fate by the spirit of Christmas yet to come and shown his future if he does not change his ways. Both of these people have been given a chance to act and change their future for the better.
Scrooge begins to realize the pain of the present around him and vows to change what he can. His new role in his present mirrors the same role that Mary takes on from God's plan.
Scrooge lived a painful past, but his past doesn't have to be his future. "The people who walk in darkness will see a great light." These words from Isaiah chapter 9 remind us that our past does not determine our future.
The redemption story of Jesus Christ's birth can be found in everyday characters we already know the stories of! Scrooge, an old curmudgeon who's greedy and hate's Christmas, is visited by the deceased spirit of his former colleague just like how the angel Gabriel visits Mary. Pastor Mike Luzinski illustrates how these two "disturbing visits" lead to the birth of new life.
What does it mean to love? What does it mean to love your your family, your friends, your neighbor or your food as opposed to loving God? Michelle Blanco takes us through the different types of love, all the way from cheese fries to the Lord your God!
On this day, we celebrate the saints that faithfully used their hands, hearts, and minds to show us the way of Jesus through generations of knowledge and wisdom.
God has given us many gifts and he calls us to give and pour back into our community as a response. How will you respond to the new mission of Spring of Life?
What does it mean to "be a vessel"? What even is a vessel? Is a vessel something that just holds water or can it hold so much more? God calls on us to be vessels, filled with grace so that we may pour and overflow into others.
The Pharisees became displeased with Jesus as he became more popular amongst the sinners of the time. Jesus challenges them with the parable of the lost sheep, saying that there's more joy in heaven over one redeemed sinner than there is for 99 righteous people. In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski uses this parable to demonstrate how "Embracing All" is a core element of following Jesus.
The mission of our church is the communal compass that acts as our heartbeat and answers the question: "What are we supposed to be doing?" In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski looks at the history of Spring of Life UMC's mission and unveils our renewed mission, the byproduct of hard work done by our vision team.
Started in 1933 by Presbyterian minister Hugh Thomson Kerr, World Communion Sunday is a day celebrated by many churches across may different denominations. We are united in the same meal that Jesus had with his disciples and it's that unity that makes us stronger together as Christians across the world.
As kids, we've all failed to do things after agreeing to something. We've also said no and had a change of heart, doing it in spite of our answer. Of these two scenarios, which child would be favored more in the eyes of their parent? Using this analogy, Pastor Mike Luzinski pulls from the parable of the two sons in Matthew 21 to explain how Jesus calls upon us for good actions above good words.
We had the pleasure of hearing a message from Rev. Dr. Gary Mason, founder and director of Rethinking Conflict, a non-profit based in the UK working on peace building and reconciliation. With plenty of experience working in the conflict between Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland, Dr. Mason delivers a powerful message on why groups of people justify doing such evil in the name of God.
Division and The Church are as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly, Lennon and McCartney, Abbot and Costello, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippin, etc. you get the idea... The Bible however is constantly reminding us that quarrels are useless, divisions should be admonished, and living together in unity is God's will! In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski uses the letter to Titus to show why unity in Christ is above any disagreements in The Church.
What is the best way to share my faith? Is it paying for a billboard on the highway or is it paying for expired parking meters? Pastor Mike Luzinski uses the end of Matthew chapter 9 to remind us that the good news of Jesus Christ is compassionate and healing and not negative towards those who don't know him.
What does it mean to be truly united in the body of Christ? We were wonderfully privileged to have Rev. Dr. Sharon Austin in worship with us to deliver this message.
Does the Bible contradict itself? Do we just accept the Bible word for word or are we allowed to interpret the Bible? Through the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8, Pastor Mike Lunzinski wrestles with the idea that scripture is meant to be interpreted with the reason that God gave us as humans.
The Bible is a very complex book (with more books in it). Is it the Word of God? Is it a collection of stories and letters? Is it poetry? In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski delves into the many aspects that make the Bible, the Bible.
If you ask most christians why they read the Bible, the standard answer would be: "Well, because you're supposed to." This message from Pastor Mike Luzinski delves deeper into that idea on how it helps us to grow, learn, and fall in love with God.
Diego the saber-toothed tiger sacrifices himself for the human child they found at the end of Ice Age in a climactic battle between his new friends and his old tiger pack. In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski uses Diego's story to show us how God's sanctifying grace can refine us to make us more like Jesus in our everyday lives.
At the end of the movie Encanto (2021) , Mirabel is finally gifted with the door handle to the entire house after her door ceremony as a child was a family disaster. In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinksi shows how Mirabel's redemption arc relates to God's justifying grace which pardons and reconciles our lives today.
In the movie The Incredibles (2004) , Edna designs and crafts super suits for the Parr family even when she don't know the next time they'll ever be on a mission. In this message, Pastor Mike Luzinski shows us how God's prevenient grace is present in the movies we love, just like in The Incredibles.
