Hi there, welcome back. This is Harry here to help you, I hope, with your understanding of English grammar and vocabulary so that you can improve your speaking and conversational English. As always, I'm going to read the particular sentence that I have for you today twice. First time to give you a general understanding and the second time to explain it in a little bit more detail. And then we'll go through some pronunciation if it's appropriate.

And this particular sentence, somebody asked me to include some references to prepositions because they have a little bit of confusion as to which preposition to use and when to use it. So hopefully this will help you in a little way. Okay, so here's the first reading. I live on the third floor in the third apartment on the right with an amazing view of the canal from my window. Okay, so lots of prepositions there. Let me give you that reading once more.

I live on the third floor in the third apartment on the right with an amazing view of the canal from my window. Okay, so here it's not such a difficult sentence. The words are quite simple, but we're using a lot of prepositions. Okay, so first one, I live on. Yeah, it's not, I live, not in, I live, I can live in a house, I can live in an apartment, I can live in a box, but where is it situated? The apartment, I live on the third floor, the third level. I live on the third floor and then in.

So here we're talking about in the third apartment. So not the first or the second, but in the third apartment. And where is the third apartment? It's on the right. So when you go up the stairs or out of the elevator or the lift, it's the third apartment where on the right. So when we're talking about direction, we say it's on the left or on the right or on the corner. Okay, so I live on the third floor in the third apartment on the right. And then the next preposition with.

Okay, so what has it got? With it has an amazing view, with an amazing view. And again, preposition of, of where, an amazing view of the canal. So when you're looking out, again, another preposition, looking out of the window or through the window, you're looking over, another preposition, over the canal. So in this apartment, the person has an amazing view of the canal. And from, again, another preposition here, from my window, not from my balcony, not from my kitchen, from my window.

It could be the window in the living room. It could be the window in the kitchen. It could be the window in the bedroom. But they're not being specific. They're just saying from my window. That might suggest that there's only one main window in the apartment, because otherwise you might say from my bedroom window, from my balcony, from my kitchen window, but here from my window. Okay, so let me give you one more reading of that.

I live on the third floor in the third apartment on the right with an amazing view of the canal from my window. So lots of lovely prepositions there. And those prepositions in and on get confused all of the time. So you just have to really practice them. Practice reading, practice writing, and practice using them. Okay. So let's look at a bit of pronunciation. I live on the third, that TH sound, the third. Okay, get that air between your teeth. Third floor.

Yeah, the third floor, the third level. Third floor in the third apartment. Again, that third apartment on the right. And I get that sound on the right. Yeah, that's it. On the right with an amazing, amazing ing sound with an amazing view, the view of the canal. Not channel, not canal, canal, k nal, okay, of the canal. And it's spelt C-A-N-A-L, but pronounced canal from my window. Window. Okay, excellent. Well done. Okay, so keep practicing that.
