I promised Jerusha that I would not let the job stress me out this time around. So instead of me leading the meeting, why don't we all lead the meeting together. Cool. That seems much better than you just giving us the information we need to do our job. Welcome to cloud naw Superstore Podcast. I am Jason and I'm BB and we're here talking about Floor Supervisor, which is season six, episode three of Superstore and this episode aired on November

twelfth, twenty twenty. Written by Josh Malmoth and directed by Betsy Thomas. And you know who wasn't in this episode to have a name tag? Fucking Amy or Amy. I do look forward to not mispronouncing all her name tags. Good. Remember, if you want to share your thoughts about the episode, or the show, or anything really, you can email us Superstar podcast at gmail dot com, send us a message on Facebook or Twitter, and we will interact with you. Yep for Supervisor. What did you think?

It was a good episode? I really enjoyed it. I think the lack of Amy is the lack of Amy's character was really nice because she's so annoying. She's so annoying. You don't need that, you really don't need it. Did you feel it was did it feel like she was missing? No? No, I never liked her. I like, do you feel like the show? I don't know. There wasn't like any gap anywhere or something where, not really like I think the episode previous to this, or maybe

even before. Yeah, where Cheyenne was like you leaving is like me learning everything and moving forward with my life was perfectly acknowledging how little Amy was needed in this place now, and I was happy to see more characters get some time, like we did see Justine Sayid had a little bit of a moment. Marcus was and that other white guy, I forget his name. I don't know his name, but he's like a toxic white man. Yeah.

I was trying to see his name tag during the episode. I didn't get a peek at it, so I always heard his name too, but that it was good to see like characters developing. Glenn is back again. Yeah, so it seems like Glenn is going to stay manager again, trying not to be as stressed, and he's not doing so well. Twice they made him the manager twice. He's trying. I think, like the fact that he removed himself from the situation was a pretty good like at least he's acknowledging

where the stress is at. And maybe with Cheyenne that'll help. Maybe, yeah, maybe, So Glenn gives some power to Mateo. In fact, maybe I'll start leaning on you to make some executive decisions around here, you know, anything to help up with the old stress. Well, Mateo comes in with like these decisions that don't make any sense to ask somebody in Glenn's position, like what color to paint the office, Like, you don't need

to paint the office, for one, it's already painted. Yeah really, and you're asking or a lot of men don't see color the same way as other people, so it's like he doesn't give a fucking shit about that, bro. So it makes you wonder why they're repainting it. The colors that he chose to repaint it are the same fucking color as the wall that it is now. Is the thing. It's like a light light blue green or a light light green blue, and the walls already like a light blue,

Like leave it alone. I wonder if it's just like in the Cloud nine budget, when there's a new manager, you can repaint, I should repaint the break room or something shit. Well, that'd be helping the employees have a better life. Yeah, corporations don't do that, you're right. But yeah, so Glenn says executive decision making to Mateo, and Matteo like takes that and runs with it, and towards the end of the episode, I'm wondering if he did that on purpose, right, because it works out for

him to well, I don't know. I think he likes the power, but he also likes the idea of just like chilling out and not having any responsibility at the same time. Yeah, he's very much management type, right. I think he was in a win win situation. You're just gonna have to sit in your office and text your friends and read those celebrity magazines. I don't have that much phone data. I will add you to my family

plan. Yeah, but he like started making up lies about Glenn so that he he could tell people like, no, don't even talk to Glenn. He's having a bad day, right, And he tried to fire Justine yes and tell her she's banned from shopping at Cloud nine, and that I think was the final straw for Glenn, which was fun to see Glenn kind of stand up for himself on a very Glenn way. Yeah, but it's also funny that Mateo is just very open about his dislike of Justine. I mean

I think he's always been that open. Yeah, he's always yelling at her about her how she's not actually like a drunk, and she's like, nobody cares about your stories and we know you're not having all this crazy sex or whatever. Okay, So Garrett and Sandra and Tony, Tony is her adopted son. Yeah, it's good to see him back. Yeah, he was

shopping for condoms because he has a date with his skater obo girlfriend. And Sandra's like, you talked him about sex because Jerry's too specific and I don't know what that means, right, And when Garrett asks if it's like anatomical, I'm like, is it? What do you mean? Specific? Oh? Jerry, and I knew this day would come. Yes, ever since you very recently adopted him, very interesting, very curious. I'm curious now. And then so that leads to like, yeah, initially, like Garrett's

just uncomfortable as talking to some random seventeen year old. Hey, if you have any questions about this stuff, I'm happy to talk to you about it or not. Actually, yeah, I've got a buttload of questions. That's a lot. But then it becomes like a very introspective look at like Garrett and his feelings well about being in love, and then later pivots to him looking at Dina. Yeah, so Garrett is able to talk about sex or hooking up, but when he's asked about love, Sandra kind of basically calls

him out for being like a ladies man. Yeah, just seemed like you're more of a hookup guy, not really a love guy. So, you know, it might have been hard to know what to say. And she does not believe that he's ever had a meaningful relationship in his whole life, and he's not willing to admit that the relationship that was meaningful to him was the one with Dina. That's I think part of it a lot. I'm

really excited for them to kind of dig into that a little more. Yeah, that was a surprising turn at the end of the episode that I'm excited to kind of revisit their feelings. Yeah, that was the relationship that I really wanted them to really develop instead of Amy and Jonah, because who fucking cares about Amy and Jonah. They're over anyway, so let's look at everybody

else's relationship. So it was really cool to see him struggling. I mean, sure, I haven't been in a serious relationship in a long time. Why because it's just safer to keep things casual. When you go deep, you open yourself up to all these feelings. What's wrong with feelings? Fair?

I don't know how helpful like it is going to be, but it's very interesting to see basically like this teenage boy man, like this young man who's coming into these new exciting experiences but very naive in a lot of ways. But somehow he's more knowledgeable than Garrett, and Garrett's kind of getting therapy or something. It's weird because he normally has deep conversations with Jonah, so he's opening up to another male in his life. So it's very interesting.

And yeah, it's interesting also to see this like forty year old. I didn't know he was forty. That blew my mind. Yeah, that they dropped that, and I don't know, it's not surprising, but it also is. Yeah. But yeah, so like having this forty year old man who has not developed emotionally kind of opening up up in their weird little cafe. So I don't know, it'll be interesting and I'm excited to see that. And it'll be interesting if we continue to see a more vulnerable side of

Garrett because he's always been too cool for school. Yeah, and I think that's part of why Sandra and everyone else is like, you don't know about love. You just you know you're the hook up guy. Nothing gets to you. He's a playboy with a shoe fetish. Yeah. Maybe I'm just self sabotaging, like I'm scared to get invested with someone because I don't want to get hurt. So do you want to talk about flourish supervisor? Do you want to touch on how Brett is the most stylish guy in the store.

Well, we don't need to talk about that. That's just fast. Yeah. So the I know, the airdate of all the episodes were pushed back a week, so I think this would have been originally intended to be right after the presidential election, but that shit got dragged out in anyway, so it's still a little relevant. Yeah. Yeah, So they did plan kind of an election tie in. We're having an election. Both Jonah and Cheyenne want to be for a supervisor, So we're going to let the people

decide the people, Glenn, the people are idiots. Yeah, it was good. I liked it. I like a good election episode. It was really funny. Yeah, first they announced that there's a floor supervisor position, and Glenn keeps apologizing about mentioning Amy, specifically to Jonah in front of everybody, and everybody's like, jeez, Jonah, And I think everyone believes that he is like just like totally distraught over this, right. Yeah, so he might have gotten like a couple pity votes maybe, and he had a

cool idea. But Dina didn't like any of that shit at all. There are a lot of policies that could be updated or changed altogether, or we could not change any of the carefully thought out policies I've been honing for the past decade. She basically hates Jonah too, Yeah, because I mean Dina is like kind of seeing him try to step into Amy's old rule. I think not even that, but also like Joanah always has ideas about how things can be different, you know, and he's very vocal, and he's also

always butted heads with Dina on a lot of things. No, way. I don't want a floor supervisor who's going to be constantly contradicting us, poking holes in our perfect system. So I can see why she would not want him at all. So she goes and looks for somebody who she can she thinks she can manipulate, which is Cheyenne, and she kind of gets her, like at first, she's like, oh, man, that white guy, someone who isn't a white male that reads a privilege. Yeah, but

it's hard though, right because of like systemics. She like, Sheyenne's like, well, Brett's a good option. And then who else does she say? I don't know if she suggests anyone else. I think she just does not pick up on the clue that she should run. Oh hey, you know what, maybe I should apply? Yes, Diane, I was laying it on pretty thick, and she looks so cute in this episode with her

red, white and blue kind of aesthetic going. Her lips were super red and her eyeshadow was super blue, and her shirt had like stripes on it. It was super cute. So I really like that vibe. And Dina gives her like the worst advice that kind of works in this store, which is to lie and bribe. Oh yeah, if I promise things, won't I have to do those things once I'm elected? God no, why not? No one knows? You just don't America rules. Like Jonah calls her

out and Dina's like, what these people are dumb? She like straight up just tells everybody they're dumb, which kind of facts. And then the fact that like Marcus is supporting Jonah is part of his downfall. I mean, yeah, okay, look, guys, let's not make this about cancel culture. Come on, man, help me help you. They pull out the picture of Jonah at a Hooters, but I like that they didn't brand it right because those girls usually have like a Hooters T shirt. Yes that's true.

Yeah, I noticed, and most people didn't have really an issue with it initially until like Dina try to spin it as he's not a feminist. But the thing that really got the crowd against Jonah was when he said he didn't get the wings and he ordered a caprizy salad. Hooters had a kaprize salad on the menu. They made it special for me. Come on, you're yourself. The worst part of the story because that's the most Jonah thing to do order off menu and have the make of a fucking salad for you

special. That's when said had the best line. He's like this guy, like he just kind of expresses everything we felt about Jonas since he came in. You know, boobs are not even the first thing that I notice. What is personality this guy. Oh and when he tries to like get ideas from the new girl and she's like, I like the breadstick idea, Yeah, naya, I'm glad that she's still around and that she wasn't just used for like the one off joke last episode. Yeah. And then there was

also like her whole thing about what Hooters does. The problem is that Hooters promotes a misogynistic belief system that women are sex objects whose primary function is literally serve men. So that was like a really good dialogue coming from a newbie. So I really enjoyed that, Like that was a big line for someone we just met. Fuck, yeah, I love that. See this is why it's so exciting not to have this like major sock factor. I mean whatever, I don't care if you don't like if you like Amy, you

can go watch her and some other shit. America Ferrera makes more than this show. Okay, I'm just I'm excited to see this develop But yeah, they have their election. Do you want to talk any more about the pre election stuff? Like not really. I mean Dina's argument for a Cheyenne that she gives the Glenn was actually pretty valid. Like she's been through all this management training because Amy put her through all that. Mm hmm. She's been there a while. She knows the job, she knows the people. She

said herself, like she knows what she's doing. Just so you know, I would be a great floor supervisor. Okay, I've been here forever. I get along with everybody, and I know who's boned who and who can't work together. I loved when they were like, let's just have a debate and Dina like totally outs herself in her intentions and how Cheyenne just does not back down. Yep. That was iconic. That was like, now, fuck you, I ain't doing what you say. We need shit to change.

Jonah tries to like say I had that idea, and he's like, no, wait, no, I respect women. That was so good. I love it when people like sit themselves down. You don't need to be sat down by somebody else. Oh that was so good. I actually said the same never mind, I respect women, I don't interrupt them. And she comes through with the breadsticks even if they're a day old. Yeah, but if you microwave them with a wet paper towel, I didn't know that.

That's pretty good. So yeah, Cheyenne wins. Matteo tried to like rig the election too, right. It's like, damn, dude, you are so sneaky sometimes, and there's a bit like it would be kind of nice for Mateo to have like a say in the management role, but if you give him a little bit of power, he seems to just take it all. Yeah, he's very power hungry and it always goes to his head time and time again. Anytime he's in a position, he goes all out,

which is not bad. Sometimes it comes out really well, you know, like that time he like did the same sex marriage aisle that was iconic. But yeah, but he's on Glenn's family plan now. So no, yes, Chyenne won the election, but Matteo won the day he won. Like the dream job, just sit in your office and text your friends. Have you ever use an apple bong? H? Yeah? The have you ever used a coconut bong. No sounds fancy. Yeah, it's so cool

because it comes with water. Yeah, and it's not technically an apple bong. It's like an apple pipe, true, so, but it is a coconut bong. Anything else you want to talk about for this episode? The floor manager, I want to share a message from Twitter we got from mo. I really hope they stop all the Amy callbacks, at least for Bbe's sake. Yes, thank you. Sorry that I was such a bitch about it, but like, yeah, let her be gone. It's okay. Yeah, I mean they have to transition for a while, and yeah,

yeah, make note of her absence to keep coming up. Especially guys Jonah's processing and figuring out what he's doing with his life. I want him to go through a whole phase or remember Kelly. Yeah, bring Kelly back in the little Girl. Ye a little chick. She's so tiny. Yeah, it'd be really good to see like something happening over there. Or he like completely plummets and he like actually like hooks up with Justy. Let's not let's

do that. Let's just ruin him rock bottom, scruffy, dirty wear sweatpants to work the whole thing and even Justine has to let him go because he's too much. He's like no, She's like, I'm too good for this shit. That would be cool. Just really want to see him fall or he goes back to business school or something, you know, takes night classes because he didn't finish right right, No, he's got options. Yeah. Do you think Carol's gonna go crazy anytime soon? She's pretty tamo. She

was tame in this episode. Yeah. I feel like they don't want to send her back to crazy right away. Yeah, she's I just love when they do that with her though, or nasty when she's nasty, Like remember when she would hit on Adam. It would be cool to see Adam in the store if they were gonna do Amy callbacks or whatever. I wonder how is YouTube channels going? Okay, Well, what's what else is on your little thing? E there? Well, thanks both for keeping me in mind

about those Amy callbacks. They weren't bad. I was able to stomach it because I didn't have to deal with her. I threw together a list of some other sitcoms where the main character had left the show. The Office yet The Office was first on the list. Tears right, they switched Diane for right. Yeah, what else that seventies show? Oh that was terrible.

Yeah, they had that once Eric Foreman left it was just trash. Yeah, that was a show that they tried to bring in a new character and act like he's just part of the gang and no. Yeah, they should have done that sooner. Yeah. And also Ashton Kutcher left that show at the same time. Oh yeah, it's like that's a show that went downhill quick. Look of that. The Office. I kind of felt like that show was losing quality before Steve Carell left. Yeah, I think the like,

yeah, but they kind of picked up after after Robert California. We did not mess well with the but I'd like that he didn't because I think he was so different and so weird that it like completely like just yeah, it refocused everything. So that was good. It wasn't the worst. When Andy was in charge, that was just weird. Spen City Did you ever watch that? Uh? Is that with Michael J. Fox? Yep? Yeah, who left? Michael J. Fox? He left and Charlie Sheen

swooped in. Oh my god. Oh yeah that one. They actually I think they did recover pretty well. Yeah, that one was decent. I don't know how the fuck Charlie Sheen is such a trash ass human. Well, speaking of him, he left Two and a Half Men and Ashton Kutcher joined that show, and I never really watched that, and I don't think it's been it was ever like a critical hit, but it was definitely Yeah, everybody fucking loved it. I worked at a nursing home at the time

when it was like Poppin and everybody loved that show. I had one old woman who would love like I had to put her to bed after that show was done. During Everybody Loves Raymond, couldn't say it for Raymond, she was like that was her bedtime, like she knew it was bedtime because like it was Raymond. But yeah, Charlie Sheen is like a trash ass human who somehow is able to pull off charismatic womanizer on TV. Really well,

like he's he's not bad on TV. Well, I think maybe he's like an actor of his time, Like he had a moment where he peeked and then we all saw his downfall with the hooker and the coke, the Tiger Blood any other shows? What about eight Simple Rules? Oh Man? John Ridd died yeah, oh man, that was so sad. I watch a lot of TV, y'all. I really liked that show. The Redhead had such big ass chits. Oh my god, the redad stits were great.

It's like that's inappropriate, but yeah, I watched a little bit of that show when it was on. He went so good at he was so good. He was such a good dad. I remember like it brought in David Spade and uh oh, who's the older guy? I forget? You don't have it in your notes. No scrubs, they're awful last season the University one. Yeah, and I don't know how fair that one is because they definitely like wrapped up the show season eight, they wrapped up. They should

have wrapped it up. When they all went to that destination wedding, that's when it should have been over. That's literally they jumped the shark. Okay, that's when you jump the shark. When you have a destination episode and they're all in like some tropical island, that's that's it. You're dead, you're done, it's over. Let it go. The crew got a nice trip, you know, to an exotic location. Just call it good.

They all died on a ship the end. They had a really good wrap up for the season eight finale, and they kind of left you like feeling good about all the characters and like speculating about their future and stuff. And then they forced that. Then they brought it back and had like the main cast kind of making guest appearances. I liked the actors that were in it,

but the storyline was just Hella forced. It should have just been an independent thing with new people, right that, Like, we didn't need all of the Scrubs people in it. It was just lame. Plus, that's why we have cougar Town, right, Okay, anything else, anyone any other episodes or shows. I put down Community, but I was kind of like, I don't really know how to define who's the main character on Community. They all seem to share the spotlight. I think initially it was Jeff

Winger. Yeah, he's definitely like in the pilot and first season, but he drove most of the community too. Yeah, but then after that it kind of depends on the episode. Yeah, I guess, but I don't know. Donald Glover left that and Chevy Chase, and I was glad to see Chevy go. It was kind of funny how they killed him off because I heard he was a dick, so good riddance. Yeah, but yeah, Community is a good show. Like you should definitely watch whatever's available.

I'm a huge fan. Yeah, love Community. I went to a community college and I watched it like as it aired on like network team when I was in community college. So it was definitely formative to my career in community. That's all I wrote. Yeah, that's all the shows that I can think of that I actually was engaged with. I didn't really engage with Spin City though, to be honest. Yeah, I mean some shows do well

with the change and some definitely don't. I feel like, if you are a showrunner and you put all of your story plot lines around one specific character, you have to make sure that you keep that actor happy and well paid. Otherwise, if it's something that you think like you could lose them, you should definitely create good, strong, supporting characters that could potentially carry the

show to a new era, because it's possible. I do believe that it is possible, but you have to really like build up characters because like an Orange is the New Black. I love using this as an example because they did it so well that white lady from the first episode. She could leave and that show could still be good. I mean, now it's kind of I don't know, I didn't really watch the last season that that was really

good. Like storytelling for their end, you shouldn't centralize it on one character when you have the opportunity to build a diverse cast and have a lot of different story narratives just going on. It also lets your audience know that they're not dumb, you know, Like I watch Bones and I love Bones, but it's just very like formulaic. Everything gets wrapped up at the end.

There's not a lot of progress or conflict. But I don't know, I'm just like I would like to see like television or whatever it is now streaming figure out ways to include more people and maybe you don't have like one character that gets more money or more time. I think it's definitely more common now, maybe not with comedy as much, but with like drama shows that there's more of an ensemble and it's like larger casts, and it wasn't really feasible

I think economically during earlier decades of television. Yeah, I mean, there's always got to be the one person that draws the crowd, right like a familiar name and face that really helps. Yeah, but I think if you don't give an opportunity to know names, then what are you doing, Like, it's not fun for anybody to see new faces, you know, fall

let us fall in love with new people. Well, it's nice to like meet a character for the first time and not have some preconception because of other roles you've seen the actor in. Yeah, and usually, like I'm thinking of like Cougar Town or whatever, where it's like, we know Courtney Cox and she basically plays herself in a different like on a different level, but she's still very much like that funny, skinny bitch, and so it's just like I like that she's in it, but I also think, like probably

anybody could have played that. I don't know. I like that show a lot, though, Oh my god, they've had to fight so hard to get like new seasons too, But I don't know, it's always fun to think about. I love looking up shows on like Wikipedia, and they have the graph of the cast members and like what seasons they're in as main cast or recurring cast guest appearances. Yeah, you're you know in that little section that says stats for nerds. That's where Jason, it's me. Okay,

So next week episode is called Prize Wheel. Sounds fun, it sounds dangerous. Oh did you notice that they took their masks down sometimes to talk. Yeah, that was interesting. Seems like the employees are just interacting without masks, but when they're out in the store they're wearing them mostly. But I also noticed that, like when Garrett was talking to Tony Tony, they were not wearing masks. So hmmmmm, we'll see. Hopefully they keep them on

because I don't mind them wearing them in the store. I think it's really important that we get that visual reinforcement. Uh huh, that's I think that's super important for us, and it kind of just normalizes it. Yes, exactly, and I would love to see that more so hopefully this next episode. Oh and the lady who was wearing the mask and trying to sniff the candles. H I missed those little scenes in that last episode. We didn't really get those customer scenes. Got a couple, but yeah, I missed

dumblass customer scenes. I'm glad she didn't pull the mask down, so that was really nice. All right, Well, next episode airs November nineteenth Prize. Well, we'll see you then. Have a heavenly day.
