From a technical perspective, a Mars mission should be no obstacle and could start tomorrow, but the problem is us.
Compared to the great seafarers and adventurers of old, we have forgotten how to take risks, slowing us down and putting our space plans in danger. Not to mention the fact that the window of opportunity to take risks in space is rapidly closing, as our waste in space is becoming a serious problem that we cannot get rid of anymore.
