Episode description

Welcome painter/art instructor Filipe Miguel, or Mr. Fil to his students, to In-Focus Podcast Number 65. Filipe was born in France to Portuguese parents.

He immigrated from Portugal at a very young age and grew up in Brockton. Filipe Miguel earned his BFA in Painting and Art Education from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and, his MFA from the University of Connecticut.

He and his family moved to their new home in Rochester, Massachusetts. Filipe teaches Fine Arts at Barnstable High School. His art practice ranges greatly from drawing, painting, sculpture, art installations, and new media. His definition of new media is art which is not limited to any material and, as he says, “neither am I. I’m always exploring.”

Filipe Miguel has exhibited largely in southeastern Massachusetts and he is constantly on the lookout for places that are willing to show a bit more provocative work.
