Episode description

Welcome American Street Artist, Mark Carvalho aka Boston Maki who will share the life of his great-great-uncle, painter, and set designer, Nicholas Yellenti to In-Focus Podcast Number 100. Mark was our guest on Podcast Episode 77.

Nicholas Yellenti was a New Bedford-based artist and graduated from the Swain School of Design (1918?) He went on to become a respected and notable painter and set designer in Broadway and Hollywood.

He later moved back to New Bedford to live with his sister and continued painting. Mark says, "My fondest memory of him was when he was in his 90s and I believe living in Melville towers. I remember him hunched over with a painting in the works of his view from an upper floor of the tower."

"After my mother told him I was her little artist, he handed me a brush and had me apply paint to his canvas. This was a profound moment in my life and my memories. I continue to discover how prolific he was through inheriting his paintings from family members."
