Welcome to the Sounders FC Post match Show. Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Post Match Show starts now to resnect top of the box. Twenty hours from golf plays the Bull to Ladero. Across squad is Alex rodnd right hand side Wallong six shot Bucks flicks and and it's a goal for the sound Is and it's Paul Rothrook. What a contribution by the young man off the bench,

off the back of a golf against the LA Galaxy. Two goals on the week for Paul Rothrook. Can that be the game winner for the sound Is Is Dynamo nil? Sound Is one. The legend of Paul Rothrock grows and grows more. Three games, three goals and the game winner tonight INNYE Houston to hand the Dynamo their first home loss of the year. Or what a last few hours we have had? My goodness, what a game. Welcome to the post game show. My name is Jackson Feltz. We're gonna

bring in the whole crew here. Pete Viewing is alongside. We were here for the for the pre match at halftime, we got our director of broadcasting Keiley Dunning here and our producer andrews Hurst and andrews One who played with Paul Rothrock. How perfect is this the legend of Paul Rothrock Pete viewing. He scored on the Open Cup match against San Diego, he scored on the Open Cup match against La on Wednesday, and he scores the game winner tonight in

the eighty seventh. Well, it's that's a great story. Good for the local kid right growing up in Seattle and uh, you know, went to Notre Dame, transferred to Georgetown, scored in the final in twenty eighteen for Georgetown. And he is a hard working kid. It's been said many times. Jim McAllister runs Seattle United, Paul played there. He said, we're all going to vote for Paul Rothrock at some point. We recruited him when he was leaving Notre Dame and we had no chance because he wanted to be

in Washington, DC Georgetown. He's not just a very very good soccer player from a great family. He is also just a really bright young man and what and he believes when he steps on the field he's going to contribute so man, that's just it's good for him. You know, the right place, right time, And that's not easy. That could have been a handball. It wasn't right. He got his hands out of the way and then

he just poked it. He had to wear with all to poke at home, right, he had to swatted into the corner one of the Houston players coming on to him. So yeah, for three goals in three first team of appearances, it's pretty darn good spectacular. So let's go through this, uh and and we'll bring up you in and kind of get reaction to more about the legend of Paul Rothrock. I I'm positioning this has build the statue

right now. But in all seriousness, what a game this was. If you're just joining us, it's been a heck of a last couple hours. A lightning delay in the ninth minute caused an hour delay in this game. In the ninth minute, there were a couple of lightning strikes about eight miles away that forced the game into a delay. Then there was another instance of strikes that forced it into another delay. Total was an hour long. The match got restarted at about six forty eight Pacific time. We just like say,

this Houston sucks. I mean you said it in there, say it again, Houston is terrible. Yeah, so we knew that. We saw the rain and we saw day. We saw the rain, we saw the dark clouds and it was kind of just the hope that it would that they would stay away. But no, there were lightning. So that was an hour long delay. At the nine minute mark, the match restarted, and twelve minutes after it restarted, Houston star player Boss he got a red card.

Now he's the one that has pretty much everything that Houston's done this year, five goals, he's a signing out of the second League, second division in France and January, he's been their big star. So him getting a red card was a big deal. That forced Houston and kind of just play in their half of the field. The entire rest of the game, Sounders

just kept attacking and attacking a lot of horizontal passing. Their Sounders first shot on goal happened in the sixty ninth minute and it was a long distance from Albert Russneck. It was kind of just can we get a little bit more? And then finally their long time later in the eighty seventh minute and Alex rolled on I should mention the Sounders actually went up two men in the seventy eighth minute. Hector Herrera had did a dumb foul for his second yellow.

Seattle goes up two men in the seventy eighth minute, and then finally, finally playing eleven on nine, Seattle gets an Alex rolled On cross, a Paul Rothrock goal, and they close it out a one nothing win over Houston Sounders, first place in the Western Conference with the three points, and all is well with the world. You know, Pete, let's just we talked

about Paul Rothrock. Let's just step back here and talk about what this win means for Brian Spencer and company after two straight losses Open Cup and then Kansas City. You know, this seems like a big win for Brian Spencer's side in the morale of that club, no question. It reminds me of the win at Austin a couple of years ago. Ruy Diaz subs in about thirty minutes to go, smashes the goal from forty yards out. They steal a

win with a bunch of really young players. Some of these young players that are now getting a little bit more time under their belt, but they went down got to win. It was almost identical, and it was during a lot of fixture conjection congestion where too many games in a short amount of time and they rolled the dice. This one was different though, because that was nine against eleven, right, and you really you have to find a way, you have to find a way to win, and they did that today.

But it reminds me that game at Austin where they went down and weathered a bunch of storms, played a bunch of young guys. They didn't do that this time. But what I am impressed with when I look at this and you go through the lineup, you know, Josh Intense comes in, Double Air comes in, Red Baker Whiting comes in. Those are all homegrown guys. Tebez As a homegrown guys, Hawaii kid, Morris homegrown, uh,

Cody Baker homegrown as well. I mean it's really impressive. I mean, if you're if you're in the MLS, you're gonna look around, and then you also say, it's local kids. It's Emerald City, right, It's it's East Side FC with Morris. Uh, it's Seattle United with Reagan. I mean, it really is a great win for the team, the fact that they've founded and Paul Rothrock exactly. Yeah, Paul roth Seattle United as well, and then Sounder Academy, and so it's just great. It's

a it's a great win. They've figured out how to get it done. Um and the and that's gonna be a pretty darn happy locker room. Knowing they got to turn around and play on Wednesday. Well, I already sent a tweet to my Tottenham Hotspur and I said, I said, you guys need to come look at this Paul Rothrock kid, because yeah, he's special. But listen, obviously the Toyota is a man in match tonight is Paul roth Rock. Your local toilet dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the

match. I mentioned Seattle United there. Our broadcast producer, Tonight Anders first played on Seattle United with Paul Rothrock. I mean you you played with him, dude, I mean, what can you say about his game and why it's you know, successfully translating to MLS. Oh, it's just so great to see him having success at this level, to be honest, but no, he's a stud. He always came up in the kind of the clutch moments for us before he went to Sounders Academy. So I'm just so happy

for him. And he could always do what the team asked him to do, whether it was defending, getting back on a corner, or you know, putting a ball into the box and creating opportunities, and in this case it was scoring a goal when the Sounders really needed it. So so happy for him, right, I mean, in the right place at the right time, big big there for Paul Rothrock. And obviously that goal that you

heard there, We're gonna play it a few times tonight. It is our Emerald Queen Casino Play of the Match, and you're gonna hear it more because the Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. It's a one nothing Sounders win down there in Houston against

the Dynamo. What a win in Delta Airlines is probably doing one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this these this season through Ray Foundations, one Mile, one Ball program will continue on the postgame show Pete viewing Jackson, Feldts, Keiley, Donning anders Hurst celebrating a Sounders win more next on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR AM. You're listening to the home of Sounders

FC Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Tresnick top of the box, twenty offste goal plays the ball to Ladaro Cross squad is Alice walked on right outside waitsaball long six shot. Bucks clicks in and it's a goal for the Sounds and it's Paul Rothrock. What a contribution by the young man off the bench of the back of a golf against the La Galaxy. Two goals on the week for Paul Rothrook. Can that be the game winner for the Sounds?

Is Dynamo nil? Sound is one and the Sounders took care of business with the legend Paul Rothrock. Three games, three goals, and the Sounders take care of business in Houston with a one nothing win. Welcome back to the postgame show, Jackson feldspe viewing Anders. Here's Chilly Dunning. We are here celebrating is Sounders one nothing win that included Paul Rothrock's big goal in the eighty

seventh minute to win it. Right there, you see you can see more. Paul Roth brought goals coming up next year. You know, there's a lot to celebrate, and we are certainly celebrating the fact that this is a win.

We talked the last segment of about about how big it is, the fact that coming off of an Open Cup loss and the loss of Kansas City, the surprising and disappointing loss that was last Sunday, this three points is massive and obviously it keeps your first place in the Western Conference. But and there's a big butt. It's the fact that this team played what do we got about seventy minutes a man up at least a man up, and then in the seventy eighth minute they went two men up and for a lot of

that before Paul Rothrock's goal in the eighty seventh minute. I mean, right there doing the math, that's sixty six minutes the Sounders played at least one man up and we had one shot on goal. There is a bit of me that is also slightly concerned of why couldn't we do more, Why couldn't we get more on goal and test Steve Clark more or when we did have

such an advantage. I think there'll be some video that they will show of passes that where went backwards instead of going forwards, that they could have broke them down. It slipped balls through and been a little bit more gold dangerous. I think with a quick turnaround playing Wednesday back at home, I think they're gonna have to sort of say, okay, let's take the win and

move from it, but there'll be brief about it. More important after losing two games in a row, especially the Kansas City loss, which was a very difficult loss to swallow, right, I think they're gonna say, great win, here's what we can do better, let's get after Austin. Here's the deal. We are in first place with twenty three points. We've played twelve games, LA's in second place with twenty one points. They've played ten so we are not out of the woods. And then you've got Saint Louis

nineteen points in eleven games. Dallas and San Jose both have eighteen points and eleven games, so we have twelve games under our belt. We've got a couple of games in hand, we played a couple more games and everybody else. So they've got to really focus about getting forward. But they could have been a little more goal dangerous, and they what what got them the goal. What got them the goal was getting the ball through the box and then

making sure they had numbers through the box. At the end of the day, a road result is a road result. Absolutely. I don't remember if Danny Jackson said this on air or off air, but talking about the goal, he was like, you know, in the box score, it doesn't tell you if it's a twenty five yards screamer. Yeah, all it says is goal. Yea. So we win, they lose, we get three

points. They don't absolutely, no question. I mean that Brian and the staff and the and the players are always going to figure out how do they do it a little bit better? But Keiley, your spot on the fact is they got at a place that hasn't given up a goal yet, that hasn't lost at home. And it was a famous Alan Sheer quote. I think that they were talking about, Yeah, no, it's how is it? Yeahah, it's I love their calling that. But honestly, any day

you can sing jingle bells would be great, you know. So, and we talked about how Houston hasn't lost at home this year at all, so it's not like this was going to be an easy result going into it. And on top of that, I loved how um, you know, Steve and Danny pointed out that sometimes when you go down, when the other team goes down a man, it can be really hard to break them down, and especially in this instance, Houston was just playing for the draw from the

minute that that happened. So it's I it can become very very tough to create really good chances and you know, all you need is one and you're gonna probably come out with the victory. So uh, you know, three points to three points and that's what you go for at this point. That is a good point there, And that was kind of the one that I was I was, you know, wondering about when we talk about, you know, why could they not get more? Houston was just so compact.

It almost reminded me of Columbus a few years ago when the Sounders played a man up for basically eighty minutes and Greg Berhalter squad just basically consolidated down into into two blocks of four and they played a four to four one and said good luck getting past this and the game ended I think zero zero for seventy minutes. This game reminded me of that, But it just took one moment of brilliance a great cost from Alex Roldan and Paul Rothrock at the back post

to put it in. So at the end of the day, jingle bells is gonna be sung and they'll be bashing those lockers and and you know, for for for for BOSSI who gotta eve read, and then for Hector Herrera who got the other red. Uh. Yeah, they should. They should be feeling batter right now because those are Houston's two top stars there. That's their captain and that's the leading goal scorer. Both of them got red cards and both of them will also be missing their next match. I mean,

they let down their team hardcore today. Uh, and the Sounders took advantage of it and got the win and got three points. I know we're running a little bit tight here, so let's take one more break. We'll come back and talk about what's next for the Sounders. It's a busy, busy next seven days ahead. We'll tell you all about it on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. AM, you're listening to the home of Sounders FC Seattle's Sports

Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back to the postgame show. Seattle Sounders winning tonight in Houston one nothing over the Dynamo. Paul Rothrock three games, three goals. Dgen continues as he scores the winner in the eighty seventh minutes, and the Sounders are singing jingle bells and coming home happy in a match where they played at least one up for seventy roughly seventy minutes of this game, a wild game that featured an hour long lightning delay as well, but Paul

Rowthrock is the hero. We'll get into what's coming up for your Seattle Sounders, but first I will tell you about the doubleheader coming up on June third, where the Sounders are gonna be facing the Pearland Timbers at Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at lumin Field at one thirty. Then later on just a few hours later there on June third, ol Rain will be hosting the Portland Thorns in

the NWSL at five pm. Now. Additional tickets have just been made available for this marky matchup given the high demand, so you secure your seats today by visiting SOUNDERSFC dot com slash tickets now. So look ahead at what's next for your Sounders. It's a busy, busy next seven days. First up, we'll be a match hosting Austin FC lumin Field. That's gonna be on Wednesday. We'll have our Providence Swedish prematch show at seven o'clock kickoff at seven

thirty. You'd also watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and also listen in Spanish legings on Lay thirteen sixty. So that's on Wednesday, and then on Saturday the team will

be facing Vancouver on the road up at BC Place. That match also at seven thirty prematch show seven o'clock right here Sports Radio nine fifty KJR AM for Sounders at Vancouver. So two matches in the next seven days, one at home, one on the road. Let's kind of go around the table here and Pete, I'll start with you on this busy week for the Sounders coming off of a win, though, they got to be feeling pretty good getting

back to trade practice and starfire this starting this week. Yeah, they'll want to get home. I'm sure they're coming home tonight. But they're facing an Austin team that had a very very good year last year. They're two, five and four. They're one of their assistants is Terry Boss, who's a former Seattle Sounder and was at Oregon State for a long time and chatting with Terry about a week ago. Josh Wolf's a good coach. But they're under

pressure. They are under pressure because of the success they had last year. So these desperate teams that come in look to flip their season on the Seattle Sounders bill, so the team will not look past Austin. Vancouver's three, three and five They're not going to look past Vancouver either. But it's an important rest of this upcoming week for the Seattle Sounders, So they gotta get

back, got to get ready. They have to love that they subbed in five different guys, right, that's a really good thing for this club to get that much confidence. So they got a little bit of momentum going. I'm not surprised by the way that Brian Schmittzer put Paul Rothwick on the field. It's good coaching, right, It's good coaching because the kid did the job against La and he's given him a chance to keep it going. Now all of a sudden, he's in the mix. Isn't he on a ten

day contract? He in short term agreement or short term agreement? But you know both of them, right, Baker, the other one the left back, so it'll be in. You wonder if if you if those short term agreements could change the first team contracts. Well, you know, that's how it works. That's how it works in the NFL, that's how it works in Major League Baseball. You get to hit at the right time, you know, whatever it is. Momentum is very important in professional sports. So

big week ahead. They got to get back after it. Yep. Taking advantage of your chances is the key in sports. In just the second minute, thank you will thank you baby Bruin really appreciate that. And then just um, if you are able to get to the stadium a little bit early, we are honoring former tech manager Dave Wallingford on the field. What are you Wallingford? He is one of my favorite people in the entire world.

He is the reason why Soundridge Broadcast has been where it's at since the beginning. We will be doing a very quick but nice little thank you for him, So if you're able to get there early, please do what is great the man, he's the man. I didn't know. That's great that what he's getting that and what I mean, yeah, behind the scenes what he's been fantastic for god how many years, like almost the entires the beginning. Is he retiring right? Yeah? Um, he decided not to take on

the Apple broadcast. So now he does cracking and basically every other sport in Seattle he's working on. He does all the rain games now too. Yeah, he retired with the Sounders, but we will be giving him as well deserved thank you. That's awesome. So Yeah, I show up early and give him a well deserved honor there before the game against Austin. But yeah, busy, busy week ahead Austin and then in Vancouver on the weekend. I think we'll be there in Vancouver, so that'll be fun to be up

there at BC Place. But we'll talk to you on Wednesday, and at least Sounders Weekly is going to be on Tuesday. This week. Cracking played Monday, so Sounders Weekly Tuesday game on Wednesday. A busy week, it's a it's a good time. They're they're the World Cup flag on the space needle on Thursday at three o'clock. Yeah, exactly. In the new logo, I believe the new the new Seattle World don't bring anything Jackson. Yeah, I believe the new logo for the for the World Cup in Seattle's gonna

be coming out on Wednesday and they'll raise that on Thursday. So that's really cool. Peter Telmazzolla, right, was Sounder owner. Ann Michelle Letta is their communications director. And now how about that, Well, we'll talk to

you on KJR throughout the week. Obviously we'll have Crack and Reaction on Sports Radio ninety three point three FM on Monday, Sounders Weekly seven pm on Tuesday ninety three point three KJRFM and Sounders Austin right here on nine fifty am on Wednesday, Prematch show at seven kickoff at seven thirty be viewing andrews Keiley Dunning. Thank you all so much, great to be here in the building.

Fantastic job by Danny Jackson and Steve Zakawani with a with a delay and hopefully they get out of Houston, Texas it's safe and to avoid any more storms there in Houston. Great call by them and good jobs staying dry there in the booth in Houston. For everybody with the broadcast, we want to thank you so much for listening tonight. We appreciate you all staying through the delay

and everything else. A wild game, but at the end of the day, it's the legend of Paul Rothrock growing an eighty seventh minute goal a winner for the Sounders as they escape Houston with a one and nothing win hand Houston their first home loss of the year and Houston their first loss of the year, and the Sounders are coming home mappy with two games in the next week.
