The Providence Swedish Premat Show starts now well with a loss on Wednesday in the US
Open Cup and lost last Sunday at Lumen Field. Your Seattle Sounders are looking to get back on track tonight and it will need to come in the muggy heat of Houston, Texas against the Dynamo, who, by the way, have not lost a match at home yet this year. So welcome in to the Sounders FC Premat Show, presented by Providence Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. My name is Jackson Felts. Here in the studios here
on Elliott Avenue Sports Radio nine fifty kr AM. I am alongside Seattle University's pet viewing Pete. Good to have you in the building tonight. I'm fired up for tonight. It's a big one. It's a really big game where the Seattle Sounders there's a lot to play for it is. Indeed, we'll get into all of it, so we'll get to our starting lineups in a moment. We'll get to our health report and there is a number of names
to go over with that. We'll do our sharp vision opponent outlook on the Houston Dynamo, who I mentioned have not lost a match at home this year four oh and one. We'll get all into what the Sounders need to worry about with Houston coming up in a little bit. We'll get to our players to watch keys to the match history against Houston loss to get to on the Providence, Swedish prematch show. But Coach, we gotta begin by looking back
and looking back to two games I mentioned two losses. You know, Brian Schmenzer was talking this morning in our production calling. He said that he was surprised of that the entire team struggled the way it did against Kansas City. You saw a Galaxy team start pretty much all of their normal starters against a very rotated Sounders team in the US Open Cup on a Wednesday. But there's two straight losses and and you know that Brian wants to get his boys back
on track in the wind call him tonight, Yeah, no question. I talked to him to the day before Kansas City. It was a perfect storm of a bad situation, right. Uh. Kansas City comes in, they don't have a win, there's zero wins, seven losses, three ties, they get their two dp's back, Seattle's down five starters, and and there's
no pressure on sport in Kansas City. And there's a very competitive bite between these two clubs, between these coaches and players, and you know, step and Fry Sais he remembers twenty sixteen with Peter Vermey's you know, so there's some there's some anks between the two squads, and so they come in, Peter Vermeys gets some fired up again. You get your two starting for the first game of the year for for Kansas City. So uh, and then
it's just one of these bogey teams. That's he was very nervous about Minnesota because we were you know, zero ten and one I think was the record
with Minnesota, and those games make him very very concerned. And the Kansas City game started as it did at Kansas City, four goals four minutes in, and the in the excuse me a goal in in the fourth minute and at Kansas City, I think it was the fifth minute, and that lifted Kansas City up and kind of the nervousness was confirmed for the Seattle Sounders. And then you're right the La Galaxy game. You know, once you saw Cheatcher out on the field, Ricky Poush was started in an opening Cup match.
Well, here's the deal, you know, Greg Vanny, they are struggling, right, they have one win, so you say, okay, where can we get a cup? Where can we get some momentum? And so that makes sense. And with the fixture conjection congestion that the Sounders are experiencing, they knew they were coming here to Houston and so he Brian was a bit handcuffed and had to put the line up. He did, So it all makes sense when you dive a little bit deeper into it. That's
why this one's so important. Well, you mentioned the lineup, the sorry, the fixture congestion that that just is a fancy word for having a lot of too many games in the Shorn exactly a lot of games in a short amount of time. So we're doing what on top on top of this game and on top of fins in the Galaxy on Wayday. The team will then return home to face at Austin at Looman Field on Wednesday. So it is a very very busy couple of weeks for the Sounders. With that said,
let's jump in. Let's get to the Delta. Starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders tonight in Houston, Brian Schmittzer puts out his four four one one, you can call it that if you'd like, or four five one fry En goal. Alex hold On has moved back to the right hand side. I think that's a wise decision. The same two center backs, Reagan and gomaz Androtti. It's great. Baker's gonna start on the left hand side. He's another one of the Seattle Sounder products that they brought along, so he's starting
on the left hand side. Another one, Tevis is a Husky, is starting on the right hand side, which I love that as well. JP and roostneck or in the middle of the park, Morris on the left. Nico, your captain will sit under a bear. It's a good lineup and it's a great opportunity for Holy Count, for Tevis and Baker. It's a great opportunity. Let's talk about those opportunities more in a moment quickly. Your sounder's bench includes Javier Ariaga, Freddy Montero, Read Baker Whiting, Stephen Cleveland,
Paul Roth. Throck is appearing on the bench tonight, Ethan double Air, Sotaki Tahara, josh A Tantio, and A Bissoko. Let's jump over to Houston side quickly, and again we'll preview them deeper. Coming up in the next segment. Steve Clark will be in goal for Houston. The former Portland Timber, Escobar, Barlow, Sterres and De Santos are the four defenders. Artur Hector Herrera the Mexican national team. The former star who started for
them in the World Cup, Andrews. We were just talking in the right before the show about how he is a Mexican national team player who has World Cup experience that is kind of Houston star player that they have tried to build their team around. He's the captain of the Dynamo squad. Coco Carrie Karaski excuse me, is also in the midfield next to Herrera, and then they're three attackers are Franco Bossi and Baird. Corey Baird, a young kind of
guy who has bounced around, but he has talents as well. Again, we'll talk more about Houston coming up in the next segment, but pe got to talk about the opportunities for this team, and let's start with Cody Baker. You know, Brian said this morning that that this kid, he's made strides and deserves the chance. He's making his MLS debut, his first MLS
start here in Houston. And the way I kind of read this game is, you know, out there on the left, you're just asking him to do a job, just asking him to put a good shift in because you have yours. You're not asking him to go out of position. Alex is over on the right, Cody's on the left. Just put a good shift in to do a job and and you know, get it, get it done. Yeah, you're exactly right, And that will be that's that benefits Cody as well because he's not asking too much of him rolled on on the
right hand side. Now, now Houston will know this, by the way, they'll try to push everything toward Cody Baker. They'll try to keep it from Alex Roldn. You'll see Bared up front, trying to force things to our left back. But but that's the best message, and really, isn't it funny? Now we're saying Jackson Reagan's a veteran back there, right, that he's the experienced guy, but he's proven himself and so he'll help take care of Cody Baker. But you've got a couple of young guy guys.
One who's you know, now he's maybe ten games in as a starter in Jackson Reagan. But uh, Cody Baird's responsibilities will be to stay home and do his job. Baker, Yeah, Baker, excuse me? And what did I say? Cody Barrett? Which we were right. We have Baird and we have Baker, who are who, by the way, are going up to be up right against each other for the entire Yeah, will they will? I like Barred up front by the way, is uh Stanford kid
and big strong, so um anyway I think. And then Teva's on the other side, it's a great opportunity for he and Alex roll Don to work together. Let's talk more about Dylan Tevez because this is a young kid who got his first start last year in Toronto, scored in that start. We've seen glimpses. Brian said this morning. He's got that ability to score goals. He has the energy, hustle. He talked about Dylan Tevez maturity and
pee. I look at this as as a big opportunity for Dylan TeVeS to to kind of just come out and show that consistency and show Brian and when you have guys in there, don't fret, don't be considered at all. I got this. Yeah, you're right, and the club is on a great job. I think Brian is to be commended for bringing these young kids along, giving him confidence. And you know, I'm always impressed with the
entire team. They share the ball very well. If a guy's open and he's got the same color socks, he gets the ball, they don't look at him and say, hey, you're new, you haven't started much. So that you know, Nicole Ladero is good about that. Tevi's got two hat tricks in the NCAA tournament plan for Washington and I like that you brought up the Toronto goal because what happened was it was from the left hand side he makes he didn't make the run the first time, and and then he
made the run to the near post. The second time. So that was really impressive. Stuck out in my mind that hey, he saw that he can't just sit at the back post and hope it finds its way through a couple of defenders. So he makes the near post run and he gets the goal, and I think it was a one nothing win him. I right, that was it one nothing to either way. It was nothing win win, But it was really what I loved is that he recognized he's got to
do it. So Tevis is a good goal scorer. Alex will do a good job of kind of steering him, having him on a joystick, but Tevis can take people on, and like Baker, this is just a great opportunity for you. Were on the broadcast last year for that Toronto match, right, were you on the book? Because because I know that, I know that, I know the Chance Fry was on there, and I always
remember that because Chance Fry in his debut some odd in Toronto. We won't say that many how many many years it was because just because he didn't want to say it himself, but all those years ago Chance had made his debut, his first start in Toronto, scored in that and then he said, I think Dylan Tevis is going to do the same. He's my player to watch, and Dylan Tevis goes and does the same, and just like I mean the look and chances I was just one of the most coolest experience.
He Chances a great guy. We were teammates and at one it's about forty years ago. Sorry buddy, that that happened. I said a chance. I didn't say it was about forty years ago. The chance he did that, but he got tier eyed when Devis did it, which I love. That is typical Chance Fry. He's an emotional guy and he loves to see people succeed. The cool thing was that got on the plane went to the Cosmo to New York from Toronto, and I think Laurie Callaway was the coach.
How this stuff sticks in my head, I have no idea, but Laurie Callaway sat him down, brought him to his seat and said, hey, do you think you should be starting a chance that? Uh yeah, and so he started against the Cosmos. So yeah, anyway, how about that? There is some well of your history of Saddle Sounder, I mean listening to wrap it back around, I mean, Dylan Teva has had to
start and had a great performance in that start. So again, you know, just this is another opportunity Dylan show Brian Schmetzer that that you got it because this team is very injured right now. That brings us to the Providence Swedish team health report. Get ready for this, all right, Let's start with Leo Cheu. He has a mid foot sprain. He also stayed in Seattle this week due to the birth of his son, Rafiq. Is his
new son just born. I believe on Thursday, I want to say Thursday afternoon, Rafique was born and and congratulations, big congratulations to Leo Chew the new father. So he's back in Seattle taking care of his wife and of his new son. So congratulations to Leo. But he also hasn't made a footsprain Knew who is still out. The malaria that he had was treated, but now he continues to deal with in a large spleen, so that's something
that we continue to monitor. Christian Roldan still in concussion protocol. Of course, the team taking the long term approach with that being very careful caring about Christian Roldon's long term health. Rolidiaz still working back from his hamstring strain a few weeks out. We think Callen Rowe knee sprain. You know, if we're just basing it off of the timeline we heard a couple of weeks ago when we got the injury. We're looking at, you know, five to
seven ish weeks out now for Callen Rowe. So obviously injuries to both knew who in a row limit what this team can do at fullback. That's why we see Cody Baker in there. That's why we see Dylan TeVeS starting because Jordan Morris on the left, Dylan Tevez on the right, a bear up top. That's because no Leo Cho. So that's the situation there. Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish
prematch show. Jackson Felts alongside Pete viewing Danny Jackson, Steve Zachawani will have the call for Sounders and the Houston Dynamo. They are in Houston, Texas, and right now it is really muggy weather there. It's currently seventy eight degrees in Houston, but the humidity is eighty eight percent. We want to drop some pounds, Well, watch the Sounders. Yeah, let's start there for our for our sharp vision opponent out before we get into the Houston Dynamo
team playing in eighty eight percent humidity in a cloudy day. And by the way, there was lightning strikes earlier today. It doesn't appear that we're gonna be dealing with lightning, by the way, over the next couple hours. So I think fingers crossed, knock on wood, all that good stuff. Hopefully no more lightning. But but you know, let's Pete, this is a humid and cloudy and muggy day. What's it like playing in those conditions?
I played in Houston in the US Open Cup long time ago, forty plus years ago, right, and I remember spelling my name with sweat coming off my nose in the locker room on the concrete floor. That's a good one. I mean, seriously, I did. I was Pettie Fernandez was our coach, and it was sweltering hot, and it was the sweat was just coming off my face that I was writing, Peter were ye Actually yeah, yeah, sorry, Pep. I was totally focused on what you're saying.
I'm sure, but anyway, UM, yeah, it is. It's suffocating, right. And here's the deal if you're used to it. So Cam Weaver played at Seattle, you had five years in Houston, and you know they trained eight in the morning. Um, and they he'd have to end. He's a big six foot four guy, two hundred pounds one ninety and I need to have to have three Gatorades minimum just to try to keep up with it. You really have to prepare yourself. So Seattle you can
get kind of caught. You can't catch up on the on the hydration part, and if your body's not used to this. I mean seventy five degrees in Seattle today and I think all of Seattle was thinking it was more like eighty eighty five. Will adjust, but this they're running into a heat wave right now that they haven't experienced at all this season. Now, if it's at the end of the season, they probably had a few of those throughout
the country. But the humidity is is really tough. You gotta hydrate, prepare the bodies, and just be ready for for what could be long ninety minutes tonight. So you gotta be ready for Your bench has to be good, right, and Yadia bench has and Brian will. It'll be interesting because all the games they played this is the third of this week. Uh, mix that with the heat they're gonna need to be you know. Let's hope Paul Rothrock he signed a little, uh you know, small contract ten dayre
and let's hope he gets another goal. He got one against U La Glexi our producer Andrews tonight. He played with Paul roth Rock, so we see, we'll see if he We'll see if Paul Rothar can add something off the bench tonight. He obviously scored back back to back appearances they're in the open cup of a Pete, Let's talk about the Houston Dynamo. Uh, they're four to three and two. They andered the weekend sixth place in the Western
Conference, holding a playoff spot only ten goals scored. That's the fewest of any team currently holding a playoff spot. But on the other hand, they're eight goals given up. That's tied for top of the conference. So we mentioned it in a couple times in the previous segment, undefeated partly because of that weather. But Pete, what do you see from this Houston Dynamotine to night, Well, they're confident. I like Ben Olson a lot. He was the DC United coach for a long long time. He had a great
MLS career and it's kind of been a resurgence for him. I think at DC United, if you go there, you know they have a new stadium now, but in his tenure, they were playing at RFK, and you know, it's fallen apart and rats the size of you know, cats, and it was a pretty beat up place. And I think he's and I think you know, they they got rid of tab Ramos, which you know, I'm a big tab Ramos fan as well. And so they were looking
for somebody who could come in and do the job. So I bet he gets better support than he did at DC United, and and he's taken advantage of it. And you know, you talk about the eight goals against defense wins championships, right, BOSSI has five of their ten goals, Herrera has two, and then there's three guys with one each. So, uh, they're home, they're confident, and as the case when it's six versus number one, there's little pressure on you. So and once again, like the
game with Kansas City, you are down. You read the injury port, we are down a lot of players. So are they going to go an attack, uh, you know, our our right hand, our left hand side, and make sure that they put him under pressure the entire time. Are they going to go and attack Tevis? Yes, all right? And when and remember when we had DeAndre Yedlin, he'd get himself forward and then they'd go down our right hand side with the gap that he left. So
so this is a good team. That's a good team. They're organized, as you say. You know, they've given up the fewest goals in the West, and that's uh, that's what you got to do. So it's gonna be an interesting and tough task for Seattle today. Well, you mentioned the BOSSI there, I mean Bossy five goals and seven starts, eight appearances. He scrolls in his last four so I mean Houston fans would say he's
due. Um he's you know, coming over from France to the second division in France, twenty five years old, Moroccan international tam player under contract through this year. I think options for the next couple. Very talented player and he'll be on the left in Houston's kind of four three three within that attacking three at the top with Cody, Baird and Franco they're on the right side. Brian Schenzer said earlier that you know Baird and those wingers, they're good
for Houston. They're a good, solid MLS team. But as Brian said this morning, the focus is on themselves. And as we focus back to the Seattle Sounders, I'll tell you quickly tonight's opponent, Alec was presented by Sharp Vision, Modern Lasic and Lens, the official lasic provider of Sounders FCE. Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish prematch show. Sounders are in Muggy Houston to face the Dynamo whereds just under seventy eight degrees and eighty eight percent humidity, a little bit different than the beautiful weather
we're seeing in Seattle, Washington right now. Brat, it'll be Danny Jackson, Steve Zakiwani with a call for Sounders and Dynamo coming up in just about ten minutes. Before we get there, we got to get to our players to watch Pete Fewing. Who are you looking at, Well, I'm Jordan Morris for me, he's gone five games without a goal. I got a lot of confidence in him at East, confident, so I want to see him with him being on the left hand side, being able to cut inside.
We didn't mention Easan Bartlow, the former Husky and Crossfire kid, that he's a terrific player Morris. When he cuts inside, Bartlow's the right hand side of the center back. So they're gonna go one on one and Bartlow is a little similar to Jackson. Reagan does love the long ball, you know. For Corey Baird, he will launch a fewer. Used to in his college days. He had a great career with Washington. So I'm looking for Jordan Morris to get going, get get back on track forwards. They
always say you're streaking. Let's hope that streak starts tonight for Jordan. I agree, and I think we have seen George Morris kind of taper off a little bit from his you know, fiery run of eight goals there in the first was at five to six games where he had four in one game when he was especially starting at the forward spot. Now he's back over to the wing because Leo Chew in Seattle he has a midfoot sprain, is seeing the birth of his son, Rafique, So no Leo Chew available for the sounder.
So you see George Morris switching off to the left wing, seeing him cut inside and kind of pair with a bear there and kind of, you know, almost forming a twosome because because what you have a situation is Alex Roldan will get really high up on that right side, Cody Bakers slide in and kind of build kind of a pseudo three in the back and then if Jordan can kind of you know, get up and turn that into a too at the top, it'll at times it could look like a three five two.
But you know the formations, you know, you're they're they're they're a fugazi's you know, it is what it is, right so so at the end of the day, you know, I think what we need to see is more staying higher and staying with a bear and they can play off each other and that will create goals for Jordan Morrison. I think that's what we need to see should be noted. Where we have a live feet of Houston.
We're watching it right now for Danny Jackson and Steve Zakawani's perch, and and looks like it's now raining really dark clouds over the stadium their Shell Energy Field in Houston, Texas. We hope that there is no lightning along with that rain, but a pretty heavy rain coming down. It looks like my player to watch really quick will be Joopolo. Joopolo not in the Kansas City match, and at least from my eyes, I'm pretty comfortable saying right now
he's the most important player for the Sounders. When he is not on the field, it is a very very different team. We saw that against Kansas City, and having JP back for this match I think is going to go miles for how well they do today. Brian spoke about him earlier today, saying that he provides that that leadership they need. His ability to keep Nico
in check at the number ten spot is very important as well. So I'm watching for JP be the motor, the engine room for this team to get off on the front foot, get going, score the first goal and bring three points back to Seattle. So he's my player to watch. Just a few minutes away from kick in Houston, Texas, we'll take one more break and rather the prematch show with keys to the match that comes up next. It is Sounders Dynamo Houston, Texas kickoff coming soon on Sports Radio at nine
fifty KJR AM. So how's your research going? Surprising? After I figured out the top rated TVs in our price range, I went shopping for deals and who's the best. You're listening to the home of Sounders FC CLO's Sports Radio nine fifty KJR just about seven minutes away from kick in Houston, Texas Shell Energy Stadium for Sounders and Dynamo. I should mention we did a nice breakdown a few minutes ago of Houston squad. I'll tell you that tonight's opponent, Alec was presented by Sharp Vision, Modern Lasic and Lens, the official lasic provider
of Sounders FC. Now looking at the history between these clubs, all time in ML's history, Seattle is thirteen five and six against the Dynamo. Last match between these two teams was at Loomin Field back in September of last year at two one Seattle win. In that you may remember Knew who famously scored his first and currently only career goal. So fond memories for when the Sounders
play Houston. Last visit to Houston was in May of last year where the Sounders got a one nothing win scored by Rowl Ruydiez the loan goal assisted by Alex Roldon. That was in May pe viewing. What are your keys to this match kicking off in just a few minutes, Well like the Kansas City game or opposite of the Kansas City game. Don't give anything up early. Don't give Houston a chance to you know, park the bus, you know, because they've got the lead. Seattle's got to get their rhythm right.
They get the flanks involved. You talked about JP as your player to watch. If he can hit that diagonal ball, if Jordan Morris can make slashing runs, Tevez can make some of those runs forward. If if JP can hit some of those, we get the flanks involved. If Morris can be cutting in, keep a bear up higher. I liked your comment about j JP kind of keeping Nico Ladero in check. I don't think the last game
was Nico's best game. He's got to be on the ball a little bit more, and he's got to make sure he's pulling strings and you know balls, slipping balls in so that players can run onto him. So Seattle's got a clean sheet. They need to have a clean sheet in the first half. Restarts are always dangerous and obviously bossy with the five goals. You got to make sure that if you confront him and have somebody behind, don't let him get into a rhythm. It's gonna be an interesting game. We're looking
at the weather, the dark clouds and a lot of rains. It's sloppy. It's gonna be a sloppy game. So you got to be very sure and went in doubt. You know, don't mess around with the ball, get rid of it. Fingers crossed for no lightning, will throw it off to Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas for the rain, for the humidity, for the dark clouds that are in Houston right now. Now Time for Sounders FCA Soccer the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, where the sound of battledad Western Conference rival the Houston Dynamo Houston are experiencing a resurgence in twenty twenty three through the leadership of new head coach ben Olsen, unbeaten in their last six games and with a four zero and one record at home without conceding a
single goal. The formidable commidity and newfound confidence of this freshly built team will create us wrong home field advantage for the Sounders. After a midweek loss to the La Galaxy in US Open Cup play, the team is seeking to cement their place at the top of the Western Conference, conceding goals inside the first five minutes in each of the last two games. Brian Schmitzer's message is simple,
tonight, keep it tight from the start. My name is Danny Jackson alongside Sounders legend Steve Zaquani for the call tonight, see off the back of two straight losses versus Sporting Casey and La Galaxy. What the keys to the game tonight? I think for the Sounders is to make sure you're in the game at halftime. It's not a game you want to go to Houston and maybe give up an early goal, then they get a second and the crowd
gets into it. It's one of those strips where you can never tell with a team this only the season who've been so good at home, so so away from home. But the Sounders will be telling them it's all about us, guys, what we have to do today. If we do our job, our game plan, we can get the three points. I'll say, quite frankly, some away games you go there and you're happy with a point.
I think because of the way things have gone, and because I don't think Houston will sustain this, I think it's a game you look to get three points. All right, Well, let's get to that delta. Starting eleven for your Sea Apple sounder Stephen Frying, goal a back four of rolled
on Yeaymar Reagan, and a start for Cody Baker. After two great US Open Cut performances, shar Paolo alongside Albert Rosnack in the midfield and attacking three of Dylan Tever's on the right hand side, Nicoladero, Jordan Morris and a
bear up front. Ben Olsen puts out of four three three at Steve Clark and goal a back four of Stres Bartlow, who's a wooden Ville, Washington native, Michael and Franco Escobar. Three in the midfield, Kaskia our Tour and Herrera the Mexican captain, and then attacking three of Franco Bard and Bassie so Steve weather Aside. We first skirted the thunderstorms tonight. Houston, as Brad Evans said in your podcast, it's a really tough place to play.
What makes it so? I mean we're seeing rain, which is just surprised because us there was voice for me, you know when we played her. Sometimes a one pm game, a two pm game, one hundred degree is that h It's that weather. It's just so hard to go there and be able to run for ninety minutes, and their training in every day, they're used to it, so that always made it difficult at times. And to
be fair, back then, Houston had very good teams. I mean you're talking to Stuholding, Dandy Rosario Branching, Eddie Robinson, I mean, Buzzwell. I mean this was a very good team back then. So they were just very good. Which we were telling us off fair, just how good the Sounders have been against them recently, which I'm surprised. Yeah, we were trying to question the facts. But the Sounders have won ten of the last eleven versus Houston and the last that goes back to June twenty seventeen,
which is shocking. We were talking about the quality they've had over the years. It's been a bit you know, Barren for a few years. But Hector RaRo obviously came in twenty twenty two. That was a marquee signing, the Mexican captain coming from Athletico Madrid. What's he done for this squad and
for this city. He's giving them experience. You know. Sometimes it's not to the extent of what Nicol Odero did here, but there are certain players who can bring in and because of the way they go about their business, they do their job, but they also makes sure everyone else ups their level. And then Nicol did it here for us in the Seattle as well. So I think Carrol has just been a guy who he's been there. He knows what to do, and guys can see his example every day and try
to emulate it well. Referee Rubel Vasquez gets the game going, the Sounders straight from the kickoff, get an early free kick, and as we said, Brian Schmutz are talking his production meeting with us. The ability to put Cody Baquin for light for like swap versus having to shift players over. Alex Roldan, of course, you know, played left back last week, struggled
somewhat was certainly much more comfortable playing on the right hand. Sorry, absolutely, I think Brian Schmidtzer got his personnel correct last week, but positionally where they were situated wasn't always ideal. He switched that in the second half and his team was able to play a little bit better. But I like what he's done to day, Brian Schmutzer. But with saying that this is going to be about John Parlo, Rust Night Ladero, Jordan Morris, you need
your big guys to win you the game. Anything you get from Baker and Tevez and the like is a bonus. Cody Baker with the ball, shall Paolo The Sounders in their traditional rave green shirts, blue shorts, rave green socks as tacking from right to left. We're looking from it. Houston Dynamo in their all orange kit of orange shirts, orange shorts, and orange socks. As we mentioned from the get go, they've had a great run. Five straight clean sheets at home, matching the Sounders for MLS top of MLS.
With a win and a clean sheet tonight or a clean sheets zero zero, they get to six and that would be an MLS record. The Sounders had that opportunity last week against sporting Casey couldn't do it as a Sounders had possession now. As Roseneck back in that line of took arrest in midweek, jol Paulo alongside him got some minutes against the La Galaxy alongside Nicolodera, showing
some leadership alongside the young boys that played well. Bran Schwitzer was Albeit the performance Steve, I mean the result wasn't great, the performance he was happy with. It was very encouraging. I think when you throw that many young players in there, sometimes it actually works. But they just fearless. They don't know what they don't know. So they're going into a game against La Galaxy, who put out a very strong team. He has to be said, But I thought, way, you can be proud of it. There's
a lot there you can take that. Shorgean crash for the future for the Sounders bolt to the outside, cut from Tevers to roll down inside the box, well defended by Houston Dynamo. But it's going to be a Sounders corner kick on their right hand side. Our Tour came across read the danger just like JP does so well often, and he's gonna be a corner kick.
An early corner kick for the Sounders here in the third minute Houston nil, sil nil and Alex Rodan already looking much more comfortable in his natural right hand side position. They expect him to really provide the word from be aggressive, joining in the attack and then it's just a matter of once he gets there, does he have the quality to find his run is in a box?
Normally he does. Nicoladero, his left foot inswinging corner kick on the Sounder's right hand side comes in top of the six flick by Jordan Morris, header bouncing around and he's just a header over. It was Tevers inside the six yard box banging in the middle of the goal, isn't able to direct his header on Gold goes over the top goal kick and that's a big, big
chance. I love what Jordan Morris does said because of corner from Nicoladero, probably doesn't beat the first man without Jordan Morris is a tremendous flick, a band of BACKPOSTI in for it to keep it alive and once it drops the din in Tevers that I mean, he's on a lot of pressure, but you're inside the six yard walks you want to at least hit the target ball top of the box. It was a miscleared by Steve Clark and the Houston
goal. It's ladera left corner of the box with Jordan Morris back to his more traditional left hand side, tries to play a combination, bounces off stairs. Former LA Galaxy player playing right back. Now we've seen him customary playing through the middle for La Galaxy, playing right back for Houston Dynamo, throwing for the for the Dynamo right hand side. And he's someone we know quite well because he actually spent almost a year here with us in Seattle. I
want to say it was twenty twelve, twenty thirteen. I always remember because when you're twelve, he left me his couch, so I never forget that. It's a good guy. Did he pay like Airbnb? The original? The original Here comes JP inside the center circle, Houston dropping off eleven men behind the ball. Certainly the humidity as a factor in the way that teams
pressed here, we've seen that before. But the sound is now just building some tempo, trying to make sure that they don't give away anything cheap. Last two games, of course, Sporting k C and LA Galaxy giving up goals in the first four minutes. In both games, ball switched from Reagan all the way out to roll down on the right hand side. Win the fifth minute here Houston nil sel Neill flicked around the corner by JP down to Dylan Tever top the box cuts it into a bear. It's cleared by Bartlow,
the Woodenville, Washington native. I talked to his former youth team coach Troy Leatherman, who coach is one of my sons, said that he's got the right foot of a top quality European player, can drill a ball sixty yards and certainly had a breakout year with fifteen games in twenty twenty two. Went to play the U dub drafted sixth pick, signed in and there's it bear dragging away. It bears performance last couple of games is just building back
into it. Brian Schmid two last branch, Metzer today in the production meeting. Kind of watch about its performances. You know, two goals in the first two games, got injured. It's working his way back. Yeah, And I think it's tough for anything, especially as a forward, when you know when you it's always easier coming in at something if you have to destroy
and just not make mistakes. It Bears expects to come in and contribute and create and be part of this really really good attack, and he did that really well before the injury. It will take him some time to get back there. There are signs he's getting back there. What he does well for this team as a number nine is so good back to goal, linking up,
allowing runners to go beyond him. And as he builds back towards his sharpness, I would say for forward goals are confidence he gets one goal, two goal, sudding your touch feels a bit better, sudding that you can jump a little bit higher, or so maybe just needs to find one back in the net. Saunders with a throwing rolled down to JP, tries to hook it around the corner down the right hand side, goes out of bounds.
It's going to be a throwing for Houston with Franco Escobar on the left hand side and Argentinian joined MLS in twenty eighteen, Atlanta United and LAFC five titles and the one thing that pat Onstad, the GM for Houston, has done in the off seasons bring winners into this organization. Fifty eight percent of the minutes from from twenty twenty two, a remaining They released ten players in the off season as Ben Olsen came in. They want to rebuild and create
a really competitive environment. And certainly the start that they've had has proved that. The moves they've made in the off season, Steve has been productive. It has been productive. And you know, you know Ben Olson's a player paid against then you know he's DC United teams or as a coach, didn't always do a butt. He's a guy who knows that to get a job done around him menest and he's got a great stuff Ladero to Morris the left corner of the box, standing up his Stras to the end line, but
bounced off Bartlow. He eventually clears it, saves a corner kick, even Franco drops it back to Stras as they build out the back right corner deep into Houston territory and they find Kaski in the middle of the field and Houston build out the back through the midfield to the left hand side. To Escobar, sounds is getting eleven men behind the ball a bad line of confrontation five
yards inside the Houston half of the field. Is that something we'll see Steve is back up and then when they have a chance, they're got to go. Yeah. Absolutely, I think you've got to be smart. You know, the Sounds love to press, and it's done a really good job this season in terms of winning the board up high and then generating chances off of that where you simply cannot go to a place like Houston and just run all day. So yes, at times can serve your energy, especially when Houston
has good possession and when you can run, you go. Steve Clark slides out. It was a switcher play for Morris from the left to the right to Tevis Steve Clark, former Portland timber. Of course, good start to his season with Houston. Five straight clean sheets at home as Krasker picks it up Ghost for the left hand side and well defended by yamav Alswell darn was caught up the field, caught out for a split second. Askar of our top left hand side of the field back to Bassie to Herrera flicks the ball
from center to right. Franco heads it across the Paraguayan flashes across goal, goes out for a sound as goal kicks. He's a quarty. We was just quitte a little glimpse here in the last couple of minutes his involvement of what Herrera brings to this team. It's just that preciseness in hiss passing. He played one pass that I took out four Sounders players and Houston dynamore on their way. Next time he receives the board, will getting a repay over
here top of the box. But said, excellent board towards the back post. Houston Dynamo. Don't make too much of it. But you cannot give a pen Carrera ten yards or space five seconds off time every time he gets the board because he can't punish you. Oh, looks like the referee is calling. Is that a thunderstorm warning? Is just holding the players up? Looks like the teams are signed to clear the bench. There was heavy rain at the beginning of the game. Brian Schwetzer shaking his head, and it
looks like we may have a weather delay here. And I think inside ten miles. If there's a thunderstorm and weather warning of lightning inside ten miles from the stadium, they're gonna call it. We thought it was going to bypass. The stadium allowed this game to go unchecked. Bran Schmitz is shaking his head. And these are the situations, Steve, you have to deal with in Houston. You do you know, as a player, I never was
a part of a game like this since I've been broke us. And it's like the fourth or fifth time and you have it and the hardest part is just keeping the players engaged. You know, you've got you've got to take this many story break. Now, how do you stay engaged? Stay sharp, you know, stay warm so by the time you get back out or you can play again. But the sound as the face, there's two or three times now under the branch mess error, So they don't know what to
do. They would have prepared for this, so they'll get back in the locker room. You know, fitness trainers will be there working with the players. There's the foam rollers, massage tables. They'll be okay, and you hope this passes quickly. We'll get back to the game. Well, we have happened in Orlando, happened in Dallas a couple of years ago as well,
but certainly something that this area the country has to deal with. As a severe weather warning goes up on the big board in the stadium, the stadium has to evacuate now as fans start to remove themselves from the seats, and we're gonna take a break here and we'll be right back. You're listening to the home of Sounder Steps Seattle's Sports Ready or nine fifty j r. Welcome back to Sounders Soccer. This is Houston Dynamos Seattle Sounders and a Western Conference matchup. We're in a weather delay due to lightning within eight miles. Three strikes within eight miles as the game got going and Steve.
These are the frustrating things for players. You know, you get out there, you get your warm up done, and you barely get going and then you have to go back in the locker room. Then then all these delay is thirty minutes after the last strike and it's you just don't know. There's just no consistency to us. Really tough, and a part of it too.
You know you're going into a game. Yes, you go for your warm up to get your body ready, but it's also your mind because you're all day you're preparing it at a hotel, thinking about what you need to do, thinking about the tactics. You get yourself up to it, kickoff goals, Okay, let's go, and then it's ended. It's really hard to have to build us off back up to that level of motivation. But they're professionals. You may be expected this could happen as a possibility, and
it's something you just got to do. It's the same for both teams, and in this case sometimes it's which team is it better that can maybe come out and when the game does resume that can make the difference. Sometimes we talk about the first five minutes after a goal's being scored before after halftime. Similarly, the first five minutes once this game does get going again. We'll
see when that will be. The MLS usually does a decent job of providing notice when the kickoffs gonna be, but the players will have to come back out, warm up and then get going. But as you mentioned, the first five minutes after that delay, coming back out on the field's gonna be vital. It's vital, and the sundition for the sounds is they actually made a very good start. Yeah, the sounds were looking very crisp. We're
passing the board well about sixty percent of possession. The key guys are getting the board. Jordan Morris is very involved. So that will disappoint in branch mats a little bit. But again, it's an incredible team of people back there right now in the locker room making sure that plays are staying ready, building them up. They're obviously in touch with the people in the league and the referees to know when the game can resume and when it does, so
the sound has got to try to get back to that. As I said, it's not just a physical warm up, it's also getting your mind back to ready for competition and not being able to relax. And it's whichever team stay is more poised and doesn't let this weather delay affect them that probably can out with a victory tonight. Well, it doesn't help either team. Both
teams have got to stacked. May the Sounders, of course, playing in Houston, we'll have to get on a plane late tonight to get home, to get back in their beds, to get some decent sleep and get ready for Wednesday. Of course they play Austin and then to Vancouver on Saturday, so stack group of games. This is something that the players certainly didn't want,
but as you mentioned, they just got to adapt. You have to adapt, and you know, and we were looking at this schedule just before and think, you know, yeah the game, and yeah, the game, last weekend game on Wednesday, game, this Saturday game, next Wednesday game, next Surday. It's the busiest period of the season so far. And then this is another you know, think wrench thrown in the way.
But you have professionals there, and I'm thinking now, guys that Nicoladero, you know, Albert Rusnag, the guys in the lock room, Stephen Fry of course, who have a voice income talk. They have to also be able to keep the rest of the team motivated. A young guy like Baker, when I was going through his mind, probably spent all day, a little bit nervous, a little bit anxious. Finally the whistle goals, the game goes, and I was taken away. He's got it all over again.
But that's the nature of the beast, and you have to adapt and parbin a pros also dealing with unexpected So for the sound is this is another piece of adversity there. But we're hoping it's just a thirty minute delay nothing more. And then that wholeful doesn't make too much of a difference. Let's talk about Cody Baker and Dylan Tabs for split second, because Brian Schmitzer talked about those young players. He's certainly proved as a coach to give young kids
a chance. We've seen obviously Obed Vargas, Danny Labor come through a Tenseo Reagan obviously this year gets the opportunity over. Ariaga earned it based on his preseason form, gets the nod over in Morocco earns his spot, and certainly he's played great alongside Gaymar, but he spoke highly of Cody Baker and for Dylan Tabs. Both players contributed to a really good performance by each other against La Galaxy. What is your sense of Brian and these young kids coming through
the Sounders, right? No, I love the way Schmidtz does that, and I think, you know, looking just at the Rostov for today, there's so much overlap with the defiance and the sound is just in this one game that if you're good enough, Schmis will give you a chance. And I think what he does really were and thinking back to when he was my assistant coach, he gives young players a lot of confidence. Brian Schmizer in his own way. In my rookie year, if Schmeisser and liked me because
he was so hard on me and he was so pushing me. But as you get to understand the man, you understand just how much he really cares and tries to put his players. And I think given tevers and Baker to start today. It's a huge vot of confidence because he's the game. He wants to win. He's not handing out free favors and just being nice. He wants to win. He has trusted them, he believes they can win with them in the team. And I think Brian Schmitzer taking a step further
doesn't only give young players a chance. Once you earn your spot, he'll keep playing you, as Jackson Reagan has proven. I think one thing that Brian Schretz has done so well is build great coaching staffs. When you look at the guys you mentioned about the importance of senior players, but the importance of freddie Ware's Tom Doucher, obviously with Stephen Fry making sure he's fully focused, Precky, Andy Rose. These are guys with different, various experiences be
able to help different players out. Andy Rose, of course, has only hong up his boots just a few years ago and has been a real kind of been solid and positive for the young players. Certainly the center backs, but Cody Baker as well certainly have to lean on Andy Rose and his experience, absolutely, and schmist does a good job of that. Obviously, there was Jimmy Truy and guns opinated before that as well. He's a guy who
empowers us also his assistant coaches. And what I like about the Andy Rose part of it is he's played here, He's played, he's played in Seattle, He's played Andy Schmittz as he's a sistant coach, so they'll know what
it's about. And there's the thing between being you know, a players coach as well, which Schmidz is, but what he's done so well since becoming a head coach is take a step back, manage the group as a whole and allows assistance to really build those day to day bonds with the players having conversations, which is something that Andy Rose is very very good at. Praiki's fantastic. You know the impact he's had with Raoul and Nicole and Jordan Morris.
The guys listened to Praky now one of the best players we've seen over here. So I think schmiss has a fantastic staff with him. He obviously has the final say, but having those guys around him with head coaching experience Freddie Ware's as well, he certainly helps well. Before we throw to break, we're just gonna give you some updates on scores around MLS. The early game today Chicago one, Saint Louis nil, So a loss for Saint Louis
and an interesting bounce back from Chicago. Ezra Hendrickson, of course, got fired earlier in the week. It's been a bounce back from Chicago. Atlanta nil, Charlotte three, Columbus two, Orlando one, DC United nil, Nashville nil, Miami two, New England one, who has started the season so well, Montreal one, Toronto nil. It's a big Canadian heavyweight matchup there. New York nail, Redbulls nil, New York City nil, New York Derby there, Austin nil and Dallas nil. So some big derbies around
around the league tonight. Houston of course against Seattle. Game postponed tonight due to weather lightning strikes. We'll have some updates as we come back from break, but right now we'll throw it out to the break Saunders, Houston. We'll be back in a few minutes. You're listening to the home of Sounders FC Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back to Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, Texas. You thought you were going to be listening to Sounders Houston and a Western Conference matchup, but unfortunately the match tonight has
been delayed due to severe weather in the surrounding area. It's been suspended. We'll get some updates as we go along. As we mentioned in the last segment, it's gonna be thirty minutes until the last lightning strike outside of ten miles for the fans to be let back in and for the players to get back in the field to warm up. But Steve, let's just reflect on the season so far. Briefly. The sound has got off to a flying
start. Of course, had a bit of a stumble the last couple of games losses to Sporting Case and then in the Open Cup against the LA Galaxy. But what do you make of the Sounder season so far? I think it's been a very good started the season. If you look at the overall, I think it's been shrieky, that can be said for sure. But the Sounds are in first place in a US conference, and at this club, the standards are so high. It's so high what we expect see from
this team year after year. We're talking about the current reigning conquered CAF Champions League winners in this region. So I think every time the team loses or doesn't win for a couple of games, it's easy to sort of panic and say this guy's falling. That's not the case at all. It's been a very good start of the season. Obviously, the home form has been the bedrock of it. I think the low point, I would say was last weekend Sport in Kansas City. That's a game that you can lose when the
team plays better than you. But the Sounders came out forty five minutes and we're just not there. And I think that really hurts branch Mets in a lot of ways. But for me, it's if you offer them after eleven games, you'd be exactly where you are. They'd have taken it, you know, scoring goals. Jordan's flying, Nico looks more like Nico than he has in a long time. It Bear has been a good signing. Reagan's been a revelation, so JP's bag. I think it's been very positive and
the results have been good. The Sounders stand where they are with a couple of you know, blips here and there, But that is what you get when you play at a major club like this, where people spect you to just win because you're the Sounders, and it doesn't quite work like that. When the Sounders have been the tourists for starting slow, been stopped start, you know with how many times have we've been in the middle of the summer
and we're like, okay, we got to catch up here. Certainly, Brian Schmitzer's first season right in twenty sixteen, that lost the Sporting Casey at the end of July. Comes in, but I think we were bottom of the conference at that point of or very close there off and gone on a run, got into the playoffs and anything can happen, and of course you want a championship in his first year, but you know the young kids as well, or bet Vargas is at the U twenty World Cup this year.
He made the final roster. Of course, twenty nine games for the Sounders so far, he's been a revelation coming in, got some injuries last year, got injured in the in the preseason, but certainly for him, it's an important next few months for Obed Vargas, I think so well. I'm so happy for him. Is because he came in last year was just outstanding, was phenomenal. I think a lot of times young players come in and the job is to not mess things up, don't make mistakes, play con
survey. Not with Vargas. He came in and he was like making things happen, which we couldn't believe at the time. I remember to Brad Evans about him saying like, would you have love to play with this guy? Goes yeah, he's fearless. He's really good. Then he has an injury, comes back and looks as good as ever. So I gave him a lot of respect for that. And to your point about the sounds, I think if you look at a lot of the individuals, they have a lot
of individual players have been very good seasons. I think that's the key. Leo Choo's having a great season, John part of great season. Yama probably for me at this point, the best tenter back in the league. Reagan next to him, probably the best young center back in the league, definite Fries deef Frey knew who would So I think you go around the whole team, and he's a team that hasn't had Christian role done in weeks, and that's a key player. I think he comes in, he put him,
makes a difference in a couple of results. So I think, yes, young players are doing very very well. I think Schmidt can be proud of what his older senior players are doing too. And I think that's why I think you'll be a good season. It bolds well because you're getting individuals playing
at or near their best on a week to week basis. And the good thing about having some injuries on The positive side is that young kids get a chance, they get some minutes to get some game fitness, and then that helps you as you're getting into the summer, as you have a pile up of games. Of course, may he's got a lot of games. Five more to go in starting an Austin on Wednesday back at home at the Sounders. But for now we're going to throw it to break throat back to the
studio to Jackson Felts and Pete Fewing. We're at schlang Stadium, Houston, Texas. The game between the Sounds and the Dynamo has been delayed due to weather. We'll throw to break on Jackson Felts and Pete will pick it back up. American Parkway Medicine, Wisconsin. You're listening to the Home of Sounders FC Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back. We're back here in studio in Seattle, Washington, back from Shell Energy Stadium out there where Danny Jackson Steve Zakawane had the call for Sounders and Dynamo.
They were in the ninth minute of this match, and then we are now in a lightning delay. Three lightning strikes within eight miles of the stadium that meant a thirty minute delay. As we welcome back in Jackson, Felts and Pete viewing here for a studio update and we hope to be back on soon. Pete, let's start with this. I mean, you've certainly been in
this situation before in your time many many years coaching. What is going in the locker room right now with Brian Schtzer and the guys, well, you know it's a thirty minute delay, so you give them about ten to twelve maybe fifteen minutes, uh, to just go chill, just go getting your go, lay down, go what you gotta do. You get back in the locker room. We the last one I was involved with was against the University of Portland. It was really cold, so we had to try to
keep the guys warm. We didn't have a second you know kit too, and it was so we were all soaking wet, so trying to keep them warm. Given some time and then as that fifteen minutes goes by, you know, if you're coming back on the field, we ended up being delayed for an hour and then we were fortunate that that you know, you get your warm up in and and you know there's always some posturing too. I remember their coach wanting more time for a warm up and me saying, no,
we're gonna go ten minutes. And then we came out and got a quick goal and we ended up winning the game. But uh, the little details that Brian Schmittzer and his entire staff are going through right now, you know, is uh, they're all huddled right now and trying to figure it out. And then and then they got to get back and get your warm up in. It'll be interesting to see how much time they give them.
Is it five minutes, is it ten minutes? It is warm there, so it's you're not in a you know, thirty five degree weather type of deals. So and then you just got to get the guy's minds right, I thought, I thought Stevie and Danny's comments about the leadership of the locker room will take over as well. Coaches will kind of go their way, players will chit chat a little bit, but you've got fry and I mean, this is such a veteran locker room with Nico and JP. It's so
they'll be ready to go. And to Stevie's point, Seattle came out and did really well. Morris engaged, so they've got to make sure they come back with that mindset. Well, you mentioned that you've been in a situation where you were delayed for an hour. Let's go over some timing here the lightning strikes or at the nine minute marks, so they happen to add five or you're using specific time here. Just for the simplicity of it. Five
forty nine is what we understand was the time of the lightning strikes. Per the rules and Major League Soccer and all that thirty minutes is what the delay is for lightning strikes, and then it restarts if there are more lightning. From what we understand, there has not been more lightning. It's interesting looking
at the radar and looking at the storm radar. You know, when we mentioned it in the prematch show, the fact that there were storms rolling through Houston, very dark clouds, a lot of rain, and we were wondering would there be more lightning strikes. The forecast had said that lightning was scheduled to go through six pm Pacific time eight pm Central time there in Houston. That has now passed. We have not seen another lightning strike since five forty
nine. So we are hoping that what will happen is we'll be able to rock and roll. What will happen is and we expect an update to come here in just a moment. We'll know in about five minutes if there's another strike or if we're on track and it looks like they just had another one. So there's they just had another light with literally just had another lightning strike
there in Houston. Texas. So thirty minutes back on the clock, and we are going to be looking at another half hour towards what would be about six forty two, then for warm ups to start back looking at timing. Once that thirty minutes since the last strike has elapsed, players will get about ten minutes to warm up before play resumes. So right now, the earliest play would resume would be right around six to fifty two. That's the thought
right now. So that's the situation, Pete, right now. I mean, this is a situation right now where where the guys figures are getting the message that there's been another strike, so they've spent the last fifteen minutes getting chill of time. Right now. The interesting part about this match is the fact that nine minutes in, sounders were looking great. I think that we were moving the ball well up there, up both sides. Honestly, Alex
was very comfortable clearly back on the right. Dylan Tevis had a header that went just above the crossbar. Sounders were looking good in these nine mean, it's it's it's probably a little bit of frustration that you look so good and now you have to kind of just, you know, restart well they're professionals, so they'll keep their heads. They won't get too high on or too low on this situation. And what they'll probably do is just guys will probably
taking naps in the locker room and stretching a little bit. They've got to you know, first rate medical staff. That's probably you know, if guys need whatever stretching required, they'll do it. But they'll be fine. They'll be fine. It really the extra time gives us a chance to hear about Stevie's couch that he got from stairs. I'm excited. I'm excited about maybe we go back to those guys and hear about that. But yeah, they'll
be fine. It is frustrating. Here's here's another one that this is how Major League Soccer has changed. They have a chartered flight, so they're not saying, Okay, this is not gonna be good because we're gonna have to, you know, stay the night in a hotel because we're gonna miss our commercial flight. They've got a plane that takes them back. So Brian Schmitzer is a very level, very very level headed guy, as is the rest of his staff, and you know they're gonna be fine. But it is
a delay. The question is does it keep going. That's that's the one issue. If you know that it's going to be, well they and they won't because we just we just we were eight minutes away from getting back on the field. Now. Yeah, and you know we're looking at the stadium completely empty. That stadium has a lot of aluminum minute. So I think the fans are doing the right thing by not sitting there waiting to be struck
by lightning. So yeah, yeah, they'll be fine it again with it being that warm, that is a bonus with them having a charter flight to come home. That gets rid of that worry. So just keep your heads and focus on when we start up again. When you look at it right now in this scam, I don't mean to be a meteorologist, right. Meteorologist handles the weather, right, I don't. I'm not going to be one at all. But you look at the weather forecast right now, and
you look at the storm that's passing through Houston. There is a storm very far north in Texas, so that will need to be you know, there it looks there's a window. So you look right now, there is currently a storm passing through Houston. That's what we're experiencing right now. When that storm goes to the south and it's blowing to the southwest right now, there looks to be a window where this match could be played. That is the
hope. The question is when will this storm pass? When will the lightning strike stop. We hope that the strike that just happened is the final one. But if you're just joining us, we are in a weather delay. Sounders are in Houston to face the Dynamo. The first strike happen, and then we just had one another lightning strike just a few minutes ago. The earliest possible resumption of this game would be six fifty two, roughly with warmis
beginning at six forty two and fingers crossed. That was the last lightning strike of the night. Let's let's kind of reset this thing. Let's let's say a quick break. We'll come back, Pete and I will kind of reset. We'll kind of, you know, talk again about what we did in the prematch show, break this thing down, and continue to look ahead to the last eighty one minutes of this match. It's zero's ro nine minutes in or in a weather delay to due to lightning strikes in Houston. Texas sunders

the Sounders are right now are facing the Houston Dynamo Shell Energy Stadium. There was a lightning strike and then there was just another about ten minutes ago. Currently, right now, we are fingers crossed that that was the last strike and we are going to see this game resume right around six fifty two. That is the hope. Right now. we're at right now. You know, this is a Sounder team that, yes, we looked good in the first nine minutes of this game, but going in, this is a Sounder team that lost two in a row, I mean, lost the Open Cup match on Wednesday to the Galaxy, eliminated from the twenty twenty three Open Cup, lost in a very surprising result to Sporting Kansas City, who were in last place on last Sunday down there at Looming Field. And this is a Sounder team that needs to get right in
this game. Well they did in the first ten minutes, so that's the good news. And you look back on the week and as we said at the beginning before the game started, it was a perfect bad storm for the Seattle Sounders, all those injuries, no pressure on Sporting Kansas City. Zero wins, zero wins, seven losses, three ties. That's a Peter Vermey's team that has never happened in his career or the history of Sporting Kansas City
for sure. So they come in with no pressure on them whatsoever. They bring back two designated players getting their first start, They score four minutes into the game and put Seattle on their heels. They get elevated, and look, I mean they're playing now and they're up to nothing right now. So everybody talks about, hey, can you reboot your stadium when you're playing against the Seattle Sanders, can you get back on track? And clearly for Sporting
Kansas City again, they got their dp's back. So but they're up to nothing right now, and you know it's so very difficult. And then you go to Wednesday's game with the LA Galaxy, and the Galaxy they have one win on the year, so Greg Vanny is looking for some kind of way to reboot his stadium. I love Freddy Montero's quotes about the US Open Cup when they won three in a row. It really set a tone early on. Stevie was on that team and it set a tone of hey, we're
gonna get trophies in this club. So Greg Vanny sees it as a great opportunity. He knows Brian Schmitzer, with all the games they have stacked up, can't bring his first squad, so he puts his first squad out. They get a three one win. Great for Paul Rothrock. He gets his first goal with the first team, and and so it's yeah, it's tough week, but they reboot. And as Stevie said, you know, if you say gonna be eleven games in, you'll be top of the table.
Would you take it? Absolutely? The Seattle Sounders since two thousand and nine, they have seven hundred and fifty seven points, So the best franchise in Major League Soccer over the last fifteen years. New York second the seven hundred and twelve LA seven hundred and two. So this is a franchise that has gone through these kind of duldrums. This one is completely understandable, and they got an opportunity to turn it back around. Tonight, I have an update.
We just got here in the studio here in Seattle. They we are told that players could be returning to the pitch for Waramps as early as six thirty three. That's just eleven minutes away, and that would set thee set the situation for a six forty three kickoff, So we could be just about twenty minutes away from a restart of kickoff in this match. Sounders at Houston Dynamo that its currently in the ninth minute in a lightning delay. So great
news there. We could just be about twenty minutes away. You mentioned Kansas City is up to nothing. To give you a couple other scores here Austin and Dallas, they're forty one minutes in. That's zero zero. Also, New York City is losing at New York Red Bulls one nothing, so the Red Bulls are up at home in that match in the eighty seventh minute. Also in the eighty fifth minute, Miami is up on New England. That's
a that's a really surprising result. Wow, New England, who's just been on a tear this season so far, they are right now down by a goal with just a few minutes to go on the road. DC and Nashville even at one in the eighty third minutes. Montreal beating Toronto to nothing in the eighty seventh minute. How about this, Atlanta is at home to Charlotte and Atlanta is getting the blows Doorn off of him. This is wild three nothing Charlotte in Atlanta. Not a good day for Garth lockerway to say the
least. That game is in the eighty first minute. Columbus up on Orlando too one, that's in the eighty fourth and then earlier today Chicago beat Saint Louis one nothing. Should also not really quickly in terms MLS games. Danny Leva, who of course is on loan with the Colorado Rapids. Danny Leva
is getting the start tonight against Philadelphia at home for the Rapids. So great for Danny Lava and you'll pee, that's a situation where you know, Danny was loaned out because I think that there was a lot of really good players Obed who's currently off with the U twenty unit for the World Cup, the U twenty World Cup. But you have josh A Tensio, you have so many really good players. It was just he's a talented young player. Danny Levi is It's just hard for Danny to see the field, but it's good
to see he's getting a start tonight. Yeah, I thought about that moment when you're kind of packing your stuff up in the locker room with the Seattle Sounders and you're going to the Colorado Rapids. It's not a like for like club in my opinion, but it's a great opportunity for Danny Leva yea right. And I'm sure that you know, he's well liked by the team and the staff, and I'm sure that he saw it as Okay, go get your minutes, go prove yourself. It's a professional, you know, game
where you've got to produce. It gives him a chance to showcase, get some minutes under his belt. He's seen what has happened with the guys that have gone on and done well, and he's just deep in the roster. So good for him and it's great that he's starting, and hopefully he can take advantage of that. That might be another player in the Seattle Sounders history that they make a trade for and it's good for the player and it's good
for the club and we'll see where his future takes him. Obviously, Danny could come back after the loan, come back in the summer, come back at the end of the season, and his days as a sounder. That's it's definitely not for sure that they are over. We were giving score updates. Should also mention, of course, this is a busy day for Seattle
Mariners. One earlier today and it says Seahawks rookie camp. Meanwhile, the Seattle Kraken, they're currently leading four to two with just about eleven minutes to go in that match. Actually, wow, literally, just as I say that they score, Mattie Veneers has scored and the Seattle crack can now lead five to two in this Game six against Dallas. They lead by three goals
with eleven minutes and sixteen seconds left. So currently the Seattle krack In are in position as long as they don't give up three goals in the next eleven minutes to force a decisive Game seven, which would be on Monday at five pm if you are interested, because we are in a lightning delay. Currently Seattle krack In leading five to two. That match is over on sports radio at ninety three point three KJR FM. We are here on nine fifty am
tonight. Four sounders and Houston Dynamo, So go kracking. Great to see that five to lead there against Dallas. Game seven once again would be in Dallas on Monday. We believe that's a five pm face off, four pm pre game over there on ninety three point three KJR FM on Monday. Very exciting there. How about that live scores? That's good. But you know, Pete, going back to Sounders Dallas and again to give you the latest
news there, we're in a lightning delay. We are told that the earliest the players would warm up is actually in just about six minutes at six thirty three, and then kickoff would be at six forty three, So we could just be about fifteen minutes and change away from Sounders and Houston restarting as long as there's not another lightning strike. And from everything we've heard, there has
not been another lightning strike, so that's the good news. Let's reset for a moment, Pete, you know, let's continue on our you know, resetting the prematch show, and let's get to the Delta starting eleven, and let's let's kind of go back over what Brian Schmenzer has on the field here. Nine minutes into this game, Brian Schmittzer puts out his usual four five one or four four, okay, and it's Fry Engle. Alex roll Dons moved back to the right hand side. Cody Baker gets his first start on
the left hand side. The two center backs Gomez Androtti and Reagan Morris is on the left, Tevez getting his first start of the year on the right. A JP and Russnack are in the center of the park. Niko sits in front of them, right under a bear. Okay. So that's Seattle's line up there should match, and that the bench it's full of players who had played in the Open Cup match there on Wednesday, guys like Stephen Cleveland, Javier Ariag and Paul Rothrock who had that goal, Soda Kitahara, a
Bissoko, Freddy Montero, Red Baker, Whiting ethan double there. So the bench is certainly full for the Seattle Sounders here. Obviously no Leo Chew in this game. He has a mid foot sprain. He stayed back in Seattle also for the birth of his son, So no Leo che today. And as we're seeing here, if all remains the same, Warremps would be now between six thirty five to six forty five with the match restarting at six forty
eight. So we are looking at a six forty eight match restart for the Sounders in Houston facing the Dynamo. So continuing there with who's out for the Sounders, No, Leo Chew knew who he is out. The malaria he had was treated, but now he's dealing with an in large spleen. Christian Roldan still in concussion protocol as we know, the Sounders are taking the long term approach with that and making sure that Christian Roldon is good to go long
term. Roll Ruidiaz still working back from a hamstring strain. We think he's a few weeks away. Callen Rowe knee sprain five six weeks away, we'll see on that. So I mean, this is an interesting thing, you know, with the injuries to both Knew Who and to the health concern I should say for Knew Who and in the injury to Callen Roe, it limits what this team is able to do with that. Those fullback spots. We
saw Alex rolled on starting at right back. That didn't exactly work out how we wanted, but now we see Alex back on the right and then Cody Baker getting a massive opportunity on the left. It's terrific, honestly, the depth of the team, the opportunity. I think Danny Jackson talked about, you know, Brian or maybe a Stevie saying that if you get a chance, if he feels you've earned the chance, you'll get your chance and you'll
get to keep your chance. So players all know that for Cody Baker to be in that position, Wade Weber speaks really highly of him, the Defiance coach, so you know, they didn't give anything up in the first ten minutes of this one. So it's a good opportunity. I like the team, it's it's a it's a pretty experienced lineup with the exception of the left back Cody Baker, and on the right side of the midfield with Tevis. Yeah, exactly. And let's talk about Dylan Tevis because you know, he's
another guy that is a young kid. We saw him get a big opportunity in Toronto last year and he scored in his first start in Toronto in that opportunity. And we've seen little spurts here and there, but Dylan Tevis is a guy where you know, if he continues to a get these opportunities and
then be score and do good things in these opportunities. He becomes a guy for Brian Smester who can say, you know, I don't need to worry when I have, you know, an injury to x y Z player on the wing in the attacking foursome, because I have a guy in Dylan Tevez who I can trust to come on and give me good minutes when there are guys injured. Yeah, no question. It's a great opportunity for him, and slowly but surely he's been adding his minutes and getting more comfortable even a
situation like this. This is another experience for him as a player too. You talk to Nico right now, how's the game going? What do we need to do more of? He can talk with Alex Rodan, Hey, how can I help you? Can I get forward? What do you want to hear from me? They could kind of have a little debrief session right now. And he can score goals. Like I said before the game, he got six goals. He had two hat tricks in the NCAA tournament his
senior season. So he's a very talented player and this is a great opportunity in it and on the goal against Toronto, the ball he got to the near post, he had an opportunity as from the left hand side he had an opportunity earlier, didn't get through the box, stayed deep on the post, changed his run for the second one and got a goal. I love to see a kid recognize he's got to do something a little bit different to create an opportunity, and he did it. So hopefully tonight he can get
a goal. It's kind of you know, you look at it and you've got Tevis from Washington, and you've got Ethan Bartlow from Washington former teammates, and got Seattle. You out, there's a lot. I love seeing all these college kids fresh cal Reagan is he was Michigan, right and you know Danny played at North Carolina, Steve he played at Akron. There's a lot
of guys Morris playing at Stanford along with Cody Baird as well. So I'm excited for the young kids that are getting the chances in MLS and really take an advantage of them. Absolutely, if you're just joining us Sounders in Houston, Dynamo down there in Houston, Texas are currently in a lightning delay. If there are no more lightning strikes. It looks like this match we'll kick off in about fifteen minutes at six forty eight Pacific time. Warm ups are
just about a minute and a half away from starting. There will be ten minutes of warm up, so we are not far away and we are just fingers crossed right now that there are no more lightning strikes. I can't hear what's going on right now? Why don't we players are on the field. Why don't we just get her mic on Keili go ahead? Good? Hey guys, yeah, sorry, I've been giving these awesome weather updates. They are on the field warming up. They are on the field warming up.
So how about that your Sounders are back on the field. That's great to see. So again, hopefully fingers crossed, we're done with the lightning strikes and we're getting back. So that is the current situation. Pete will keep this for a few more minutes here before we send it back out to shal Energy Stadium and Danny Jackson and Steve Zakawani will have the call the restart for
Sounders and Dynamo in just about fourteen minutes. But but while we have a moment, you mentioned there Barlow starting the former Husky, they're starting for Houston. He of course played in the open cut match for Houston on Wednesday as well. I believe he's the only player that is starting both of these matches. And this is a Houston team. They're unbeaten at home. They're right now, I believe four oh and one or four on two at home.
They're traditionally, I mean for the Sounders first number of years and then was a really hard place to play. But Sounders have had their number of late. What do you see from this Houston team right now that sits play a sixth place in the Western Conference. Well, they're organized, and they bought into Ben Olsen, they bought into the defensive side. You know, they
are getting goals if you can. If you can give up only eight goals right in your first eleven games nine let's see do the math here, nine games right, if you have have eight goals, that's every coach wants to stay below one. The fact that they've been able to do that, the fact that they've made it hard to play at home. You certainly have an advantage playing in this climate. For a team like Seattle coming in. You
do train in it. You have a mental advantage. Just I see in my mind the New York Giants football team, guys walking out, you know, and they don't have their shirts on their snow all over the field. It's the opposite scenario. But but if you are with Houston, you know that you can, you know how to play in this weather and you know
how to push through it. So it's good for Ben Olson. I'm happy for Ben Olson because he had a wonderful career as a player, and you know it was in the national team as well, and he's gotten an opportunity to take over a team after getting a year or two off from the when he left DC United. So they bought into Ben Olson, and um,
you know they're in. They're confident right now, absolutely, they are, especially at you know, I'm kind of just kind of thinking through right now the situation in Houston where, you know, just about an hour ago when this match you know, kicked off the first time and again we are in a lightning delay, scheduled to restart this thing in just about twelve minutes here on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR am Pete. When when we kicked this thing
off an hour ago, it was seventy eight degrees. There was still some light there. The humidity was at eighty eight percent. In just the last hour, the humidity is now down to eighty I know, still high, but but it's now down, you know, eight percent. The temperatures down a number of degrees. Would I would also say that, you know, this temperature change, when we talk about how hard it is to play in Houston, this does benefits. Yeah, it's it's not what it was an
hour ago, yeah, no question. And the rain helps too. The rain helps, you know, for I don't know metabolically what it is, but it keeps you a little bit cooler, right, I mean, if it's if it is what it was an hour ago and it's sunny, you are baking in that, right. So if you've got the rain, I don't think it's going to be a factor. As it's as it's dropped that eight percent and the and the degrees have dropped a little bit, I think
it plays into Seattle's favor quite a bit. It absolutely does. Continue to talk about Houston. Here is as we kind of restart our sharp vision opponent outlook, you know, looking at Houston and Ben Olsen is their head coach, and Ben Olsen was the head coach of of DC United for many, many years and d and Houston's really kind of changed their entire structure over the last i would say eighteen months where the former regime tab Ramos, I mean
you spoke about him in the premiun show. We can talk about him here again. He was out after a couple poor seasons. Ben Olson's in. They've changed an enormous percentage of the roster. They've really tried to say, all right, what we had going on for for I mean since twenty seventeen
it was not good. Uh, they've kind of tried to start a new culture there with the Houston Dynamote appears well they have they have MLS Cup championships, yeah right and right Cane right yeah yeah, Dominic sorry, yeah, yeah, that's right. Yes, And that's when they came over from San Jose. When they came over, Craig Wible, our general manager, sporting
director, he was on some of those teams as well. But they so when you have a history like that and it dwindles, you want to make sure you get it back, not just because you're a proud franchise, but also because your fan base knows better, so h I'm happy for them. You know, they played in two MLS Cup finals again lost LA maybe five six years ago. I don't know, that's about twenty twelve, I thing. Okay, so it's been longer. Yeah, it's been a long time
since Houston was really a contender. Last time was I think they were in the West Final against Seattle in twenty seventeen. That's really been the last time they've done much of anything in this league. Yeah, So if you have that history and you know what it looks like, and you know the joy that it brings players, coaches, fans, owners, you want to get back to that. I was surprised, you know, Like I said, I'm a big tab Ramos fan as a human being and his playing career,
and he's coaching now in the USL Championship. So I hope he gets another opportunity to come back to MLS at some point. But the fact they pulled the trigger that quick on him, We've seen some teams just linger with coaches, right, So they they're serious about getting back to the top of the West. So we'll see exactly how they come out and if this about hour
long weather delay, they're in Houston for Sounders in Dynamo. We'll see if the Sounders can start right back where they left off, as they looked very good in the first nine minutes. We'll see if Seattle can continue that. I'll tell you. Overall in MLS history, Seattle is thirteen five and six against the Dynamo. Last match between these two teams was back in September of last year. That was at Loumin Field, a two one Sounder win.
You may remember that because it was the legendary goal from Knew Who, the first and only goal in Knew Who's career. Knew Who, of course out for today, but we remember that last game. They're in September. Last time the Sounders were in Houston and in this stadium was a one nothing Seattle win on May eighteenth of twenty and twenty two last year. Alex Roldan actually
got ejected from that game. Pea, remember you had two yellow cards, and I remember the second one, I remember remember exactly, but I think the second one was very ticky tack and it was sort of just kind of frustrating. But the Sounders did win that game a lone goal scored by Rowl Ruy Diaz. So that's the last time these two teams have played, and the Sounders have had a very very good record against the Dynamo over the last
five or six years. We'll see if they can continue that here. So with that said, let's step away, Let's send it back out to Shell Energy Stadium. Danny Jackson, Steve Zakawani. They've they've lasted through the rain and the lightning and the storms of Houston, Texas. So we will get back to them in the booth there in Houston. Hopefully they can open up those windows again soon and everything will be safe and sound, and we will
have kickoff in just about seven minutes. Seven minutes away from restart Sounders and Dynamo. It's zero zero in the ninth minute. ninth minute, they've got a weather delay due to lightning. Teams are back out on the field warming up. I'm Danny Jackson alongside Steve's aquatic Steve. We moved the metal chairs we were sitting on, we got the plastic ones, and we are ready to get going. Here the fans are rolling back into the stadium. They were inside the concourse protect themselves and then back out to support their teams. So Steve picking up where the Sounders left off ninth
minute. They had a good start. What do you want to see from them in the next thirty five minutes. It's going to be even more important now to get back to another good start because you're playing now an eighty one minute game, So that nine minutes that just took place, it doesn't matter anymore. It's like it didn't happen because Houston. Now I've seen, Okay, this is the intention. They were trying to get Jordan Morris isolated.
They were trying to get Dylan Tevers isolated. Adi Shordown was coming into the attack. So you've both seen a snippet of what you were both trying to do. So I expect to see a few adjustments. One from the Sounders is get very tight to Herrero, do not aim dictate the game. I believe you keep him quiet today you get the three points. And for the Sounders it's just get back to what you were doing. I mean, the
attacking guys were very involved. Get them involved early. Well. This copyrighted audiocasts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroad cast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. So let's take a look at that delta starting eleven again for your Seattle Sounders. Stephen Frying goal are back for Roldan Yamar Reagan and Cody Baker, who we've discussed during this break.
Japallo alongside Albert Roseneck. Tever's on the right hand side, Ladera in the middle of Jordan Morris on the left, and they bear up front. Ben Olsen puts out a four three three as a team to come back out in the field ready to kick off. Steve Clarking goal a back four of Stairs Woodenville, Washington native and you dub grad Ethan Bartlow, McHale and Escobar attack midfield three of Herrera our Tour and Karaskia, and then Franco Baird who
played alongside Jordan Morrison. Stanford plays up top and Bassie on the left hand side. So, Steve, we talked a lot about the imports of experience in the locker room. Join these downtimes that the experience of Brian Schmitz and his staff have had. What are they saying to the team as they get
ready to go. Yeah, branch Mester probably would have spocused to the team at the very start of the break and then left them alone, let the others know, the fitness coaches and assistant coaches and pretty much leave the players the locker room to themselves. And then he's probably just gone back in the past couple of minutes to just reinforce his pregame message. This is what we need to do. Is what worked in the first nine minutes. He saw
what they want to do. So I don't think branch mess is a guy who would have been two hands on in that break. He would have expected Nicoladero, Stephen Fry, those guys to keep the team going, and his fitness coaches, who were very good. The team should be ready to go again. But I think for Schmiz, he would have been pleased with that first nine minutes. He would have been pleased. They would not have wanted the little break in the game. And now it's the case of can we
pick back up again. I mean it's a very unique situation to play nine minutes and then stop in a comeback for eighty one minutes after, you know, a big delay like that. But I trust in the way branch Mester runs the team and approach the team that the boys would be ready. Well. Bett Olson sitting down on his bench with his staff, came in in the off season in November of twenty twenty two alongside GM pat onst they really
want to build a team of competitors and winners. And obviously the first piece that pat Lon said put together in the middle of the last year was Hector Herrera coming in from Atletico Madrid. The Mexican captain was a big acquisition for Houston, as they said in the press at the time, point the biggest signing for that club in their history. So here we go. Rubel Vasquez gets us going here as he shakes his shoulders, gets ready to go,
warms up. The players are out there, ready to go and hopefully for the team's steve, they're going to start where they left off at a good pace of good temper. Yeah. Absolutely, so I think you know, getting a little ten minutes to warm up that will help you'll get you going. As I said as well, I'll be interested to see here the mental side of it, because you do psych yourself up on a game there,
you have to really build up to the game. You're getting into it with anxiety there, a little bit of nerves, and then the game starts and suddenly your joining is there and you're going and then that just stops abruptly. To get back to that is not easy. So we'll see which team can get back not only physically shop but also mentally shop well. Sound As FC
Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare punder of Sounders FC. As Stephen Fry, decked out in all black, gets us going with a gold kick as he launches it forward at back, controls it on his chest, a little cushion header by Rosnap giving away to Karaskier as he goes down. Actually, Ivan Franco goes down the halfway line as a Sounders now just try to get back into the game thirty five minutes, thirty seven minutes to go
until halftime. It's there's been games that I certainly played in Steve and I about you, where you have five or seven minutes left to the first half, you have this two hour break, you have to come out for this five or seven minutes. And I don't know how the rules are now about kind of like washing that out and starting fresh for the second half, but certainly the sound has gone a little bit of time now to kind of build
this back up. Yeah, and I think for the sounders again, it's let's think of what the sounds were trying to do in this game again, I think branch mess are making a choice to put Alex Rodan back to the right hand side, right decision. We saw early on how aggressive he has to be in terms of getting forward. On the other side there, it's Herrera, you know you mentioned in the pregame talk there than he as we were geting for the game that he's to come into, he's on a little
bit and we start to see little signs of that. Just a very quality player and he's beginning to find his way in Ben Olson's system, and so he's the guy he gotta keep it eye on because he makes the game goal for Houston. It was a stop start start to his MLS career in twenty twenty two, but two goals and two assists on his campaign so far has really got this team going. As Bartlow, with his strong right foot, launches it forward to the left hand side, good headed by Baker as he
gets in front of Franco wins his head. It goes out for throwing for Houston on the right hand side. On their right hand side, this near side with Stas the La Galaxy player of many years who's playing right back, now challenged by Jordan Morris. He play as nightmares of Jordan Morris running at it in that one goal I remember like the La Galaxy when he blew past
half the defense and scored. As the ball goes over the top, rolls through, Gamar reads the play well clears it with his left foot, it rolls out of bounds twelve yards from the corner Fla Franco picks the ball up for Houston. Dyne mooers. Both sets of players get their legs back underneath them as they were sitting preparing to come back out after the weather delay. We are in the eleventh minute here at Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, Texas.
It's Houston Nils Sounders nil as Steve. The return of Jopalo who's on the ball right now, as a welcome return for this squad. Absolutely and he's a player who Yes, when he's there, you're watching him, you know he's good. Even ask how good he is when he's missing. August the outside inside to TeVeS Well played by bart Lowie, comes across the center back for Houston sees the danger, reads the game well, but it's going
to be a Sounders corner kick on the Sounders right hand side. It's a second corner kick for the Sounders as they come back out here on the field to get this game going. As we approached a twelfth minute here Sounders in green shirts, blue shorts, green socks attacking the goal to our left. Attack him from right to left and this time it's Rosneck with his right foot.
He'll be an outswinging. Want to kick on the Sounders right hand side, go short to roll down bat to Rosneck right hand corner of the box. It's rolled down, pressured by Houston Dynamo. As the ball comes in flicks out by Herrera to the top of the box. Kaskia clips it down
the line and Ladero challenged by Franco but lets the ball going about. It's gonna be a Sounders thrown twenty five yards on the corner flag on the Sounders left hand side as Cody Baker, the Issaquah, Washington native Academy product Defiance play on a short term contract with Defiance played solid again in the middle of the week for the against the Galaxy gets to start to night as a Sounders
that possession left hand side Rosneck to JP back in the lineup. After that suspension against Sporting Casey got a few minutes against the La Galaxy for suspended for that five yellow cards yellow card accumulation as the sound has maintained possession now inside the Dynamo half of the field, but Dynamo poked it away from the Sounders and come away with it with Escobar left hand side, goes back to Nikhil who knocks it long and high with his left foot to Yamar brings it down
in his chest, nicely pressured by Bassi. Goes all the way back to Stephen Fry, but may it's a n HPI month starting may first support an HPI owned small businesses for a chance to win Sounders prizes. And it's Susan Dynamo left hand side inside the box, strike and well blocked by Jackson Reagan read the danger well. Escobar picks it up left corner of the box. Challenged by taverns, it comes back out to Herrera clips it in with that
right foot, collected easily by Stephen Frye. Put a good chance for Houston Dynamo. Want it in high press from the Sounders. It was a great blot by Jackson Reagan saw the danger well slipped across to the Sounders right hand side block the shot. That's nothing short of a gold saving tackle. I mean, that was exceptional from Jackson Agan. He read the situation really really well and then sold himself all out there. He gets a tremendous block there.
Again, he won't be on a stat sheet. It's not gonna make the highlight reels. But that is as good as a thirty yards scream at the other end because it really prevented the gold there. But a little snippet into what the dynamoll can do a little bit of high press, which Ben Olsen has wanted his team to do, and then they were very dynamic across
the box. There one v one excellent block by Jackson Reagan well four zero and one record at home so far in twenty twenty three, five straight clean sheets that match the Sounders for their straight clean sheets always ended, of course last week with a two one lost against Sporting KC and Houston looking for their sixth straight clean shit k which will be an MLISS record. As the Sounds pick it up top of the box to a bear controls it, but the
Pockets picked but its a bear comes back with it. Jordan Morris top of the box twenty yards from Gold drops it back to Rosneck as Keraskier pushes and presses Rosneck, but the Sounders have possession. Cody Baker comes back on his preferred right foot, playing left back tonight for the Sounders after a cup a great US open cut performances, but Steve it feels like the Sounders have settled
back into it. In the fifteenth minute here Houston nil cl nil nine fifty KJR AM Yeah, and I'm actually impressed by how well see it was. Come back and nothing happened, There was no delayed look, very sharp ball is moving well. JP has been the most influential play on the pits so far. I mean he's really finding almost every third or fourth passes John Parlor right. Now ball goes into a bar from Ladero, Jordan Morris supporting on the left hand side, but cut out well by Houston. Dinamos that come
away that Herrera to the left to Bassie. One touch pass through the middle to Baird who gets pushed off by Cody Bager. Well played again and Jackson Reagan gives his young left backer round of applause for reading the game well and steps in and the Sounders come away with it. Now, slow build up, no real pressu from Houston as the ball goes from GP to Rosnack all the way out from center to the Sounders right far side of the field,
with roll darn back to Rosneck to Tevers inside from his right spot. Gets let's start tonight again. After a solid performance in midweek against the Galaxy and open cut play to roll down back to his more preferred right back spot as a Sounders now maintained cut possession, Jackson Reagan good solid start to his season as he already has a solid play with that block on the Houston breakaway. But Stephen, we talked about Baker, we talked about Tevers, the opportunity
tonight for both players. So far so good, So far, so good. And the last play there when Houston animal just about to get behind the sound his back line, Corey Baird had made a very good run back had to be switched on. He came in covering and he really read that. Well, it's something we've seen the lacks of Nu who a much more experienced player at this point do very well. It's not easy for a young player
to get it right. Positionally, you know you can always be good one for you one by defending spaces, knowing when to tuck in and for him to come inside there and stop Cody Bird in his tracks. Very very good from Baker. Well, reading reports about Cody Baker, his work, ethic,
his mentality has been so good. Such a young player still made his debut last week off the bench against Sporting Casey and then his first start in MLS for the Sounders tonight and so far solid, defensively solid with the ball at his feet as the Sounders now slightly higher pressed top of the Boxers. Steve Clark has it Steve Clark, Portland Timbers player, so far good start
to his season for Houston. As the Sounders drop off no real pressure as the ball goes out to Ethan Bartlow the Washington The Woodenville, Washington native knocks the ball long, defended well by Baker, who wins the header, but it drops to Houston Dynamo. Karskier tries to flick the ball all the way over to Corey bab in the middle of the Sounders back line, but headed back by Rosneck to Stefan Frey and is very the Houston Dynamo or not afraid
to be direct. There are a team who's have no problem by passing the midfold. If they have to borrow a couple of times that he's played a very very good long distance past, then it's not just long board and lumping. They're actually just trying to play the ball into air, is what the Sounds have to try to clear under pressure and tray pick up second boards and then make the game from there. And it's been an effect us a far
so a contrast of stars. The sound is very happy to build through the lines found Jo Parlo get a ball left to right, see what's open. The dynam We're not wasting any time. Really, we've built up in the back, going very direct to pick up second boards and then see what it can make happen. Or certainly defensively, Houston has been the backbone of their success so far. We've talked about the five straight clean sheets at home, ten goals scored in the year, only eight goals given away, so not
prolific in front of goal. They've talked about the number nine and number ten being a missing piece in this lineup, but Ben Olsen's so far good start to his career here in Houston, and it's been so up and down in this franchise to the last few years. They've had to stability in the twelve years ago MLS Cups when they shifted from San Jose to Houston. As you
mentioned, Eddie Robinson's the Brian Chings of the world, the Mullins. But hopefully now they see a bit of consistency in this franchise and they're trying to re seemed that. You know, it's one of the original one of the teams has been around for a very long time and when I did come into the league, it was the team that I looked at him, was like, man, this is a very tough team to be In fact, our first year, it's just a mes franchise. That's the team that knocks out
of the playoffs. It was a tremendous branching goal in extra time in the away leg. We lost one day against a very good team and they haven't quite been that. And it's not often you see a team in MLS that you have their number and the sound is since twenty seventeen, I've had this team's number. Kaskier to bass to our tour from middle center to write to Franco on the right hand side, flicks it into the box top corner of the six yard pots comes in, gets flicked by Yama, but it's Escobar.
Picks it up Bassi top right corner of the box, flicks it in. Well played by Baker again, he saw that danger. It was Herrera coming in the back post. Baker read the danger, flicks it out of bounce. It's gonna be a Dynamo corner kick on their right hand side. Excellent again. Excellent by Baker again. But Nicoleadero has been down for a while here, and he's not a player who stays down and we'll get to see a replay here. I don't think it was anything intentional, but that's
a pretty pretty strung hit on the Dero there. It looks like studs went right down his shin some concern for the sounds again the Dynamo and the now obligation to put the ball out, they decided to play as they were in the final third, Nico indicating doesn't need a trainer, which is a very very positive signer. But you don't often see that you're required on the ground this long, and by judging by that replay, he took a very very legitimate hit. Well again, Ladero, even in his mid thirds, just
covered so much ground. Great start to the season for Ladero. Got a goal last week on the PK spot, his first goal of the year, and the referee is gonna do VR. He's gonna take a look at this knocking Ladero and it was high. I'm not surprised it was high. It was start showing. I don't think there was intent, but sometimes it doesn't matter. It's just simply what the impact was. Ladero was trying to get back there do his defensive duty. He was quite quite high, which starts
high. So this will be very, very interesting. But once she goes to the money top, it means they've seen something. They said, look, you better take a look here. Ben also is not happy. He made a few tackles during his time, but this will be very interesting here, and slow motion always looks worse. He puts the via single card. Unbelievable for Bassie is that? I mean Bassie that gets the red card?
Wow for the Sounders, what an incredible start to this game as a Sounders come back out after a weather delay twenty first minute and it's Bassie that gets the red card. As we see a replay here, the ball comes in. How it is high? It is very very high, rakes right just right in the middle of the shin. That is a very dangerous cycle and probably well deserving a red card. Steve, I can see what Bussy was
trying to do. Can he get it before Nicole get his body in front planting himself But he did not do it because the Darrel was quicker to the ball and he goes right for him. Again, I don't think there was intent anything like that, but within the laws of the game, you goes that high Whish starts across one shin, with there now a part of the game is very tough to get away with that. It's Ben Olsen and Houston. They'll protest all day. But that's a sense it's still trying to figure
out. I think he's talking to his assistant coaches. He watched the game from the stars there saying you've seen a replay. Is that a red or not? And they'll tell him, listen, that's a red card. Listen if a Sounders player did that and we get a red card, it's one you just accept. You take it on the chin. So I think it's the right decision. Well, but I see five goals in the year the
top scorer for Houston Dynamo. Four of those goals are from Pek's Four consecutive PK's in four games was an MLS record, actually, but the man from Metz, Nancy came into the office. It came in twenty twenty two. It's that a great start to his career. But gets the red card early in this one. And the Sounders now playing upper Man in a very difficult place to play. The humidity we've talked about, it's very difficult to play.
But upper Man now, as the Sounders now will dictate tempo for the remaining seventeen plus minutes of this game is when the twenty third minutes Houston nil sil nil, and I think Houston, we're going to see them very compact line of confrontation for the Houston Dynamal would drop even further, probably to the bottom of the circle in their own half. The Sounders are going to be able to play this game fifty yards and in have order possession, and it's
a question of in this situation you have to score. Ball comes into the box to a bare drop off to Rusna could picks the ball up twelve yards from goal, holds the ball up good pressure by our tour, but it goes back out to the right hand side to roll down. Sound has got some pressure now well defended by escobars. It flicks off roll down, It
tries to control the ball this chess. It goes out for a Sounders throwing on the right hand side, deep on their right hand side near the corner flack the sooner the sound is going to apply pressure, force Houston backwards and hopefully get a goal. It completely takes away anything Houston animal can do. The longer ist nil nail even at ten men. Anything can catch you in
transition on the set piece. That's what the dynamalill be banking on. The way you mitigate that and you take that away is you get a goal and a sound is now are going to be hung in his first staff to try and go in ahead at halftime because then it's a very long way back for the Dynamo. But it's going to be a game where the Sounds can dictate possession pretty much do what they want, and it's going to come down to how clinical can you be when those chances present themselves, because they will so
steve where a forward getting a red card? Do you expect any changes or is it just gonna be the same back for same midfield, three and two attackers and maybe drop another midfield He likely jop Yeah. I think they likely go into something that looks like a four four one most likely for the For the Houston Dynamo, they will get numbers in the attack when they do have chance in transition, but it's a team now that until they can get back
in at halftime. Ben Olson just has to trust the guys. He yells out there, can we stay compact? Force the sounds to play around us not through us. Try to stay strong, get in nail nail at halftime, and then I'll make my changes. That's what Ben Olson's that's what's going through his mind right now. But for the Sounds him, you're gonna have a lot of the board, which they already did before they went had an extra guy. Now the extra guy, more possession, generate chances. Try
to find it back at the top of the box. Rodesnack takes a shot well blot by our tour. Ricochets to Alex roll Don right hand side, twenty five yards from the end line in the right channel, comes back to Yamar. The Sounders now good possession in the Houston half of the field. Houston obviously dropping back now down a man, a red card on Bassie after a VR check the Sounders upper man as they play the ball from center to left to Cody Baker cuts the ball back to Ladera left court side of the
box, flicks the ball in, gets cleared. Jackson Reagan top of the box to the yards look for the shot, decided to go to Tevers back to goal, goes out to roll down. Sounders now just looking for that opening, that one chance to test Steve Clark in the Houston goal and this is what we'll see, probably see blocks of four in front of the eighteen yard box to defend their goal. Yeah. Absolutely, they've gone into a
four for one. And I said the confrontation line from the Dynamo where the point where they engage the Sounders would be the bottom of their own circle, it's much deeper in that they're defending thirty five yards from their goal and then just asking the Sounders to break us down, which again for the Sounders, it's not something they've not seen before. And just to say it's not because
you play eleven against ten that the game becomes easier. Sometimes that's tougher because because all the pressures on you, now the onus is only you have to make things happen where there's very few gaps because teams don't take risk in that situation. So it's not a given that the Sounders will generate chances. But because of how sharp they're playing, because of how much JP and Rossna and there are finding the ball, it's tough to see any outcome. Then the
Sounder is generating chances and it's a question of can you finish. Ladero plays the ball in left hand channel, too close to Steve Clark, easily collected by the Houston Dynamo goalkeeper. And see this is about making the field big, right you don't you want to make sure you make it as big as pass will make it as difficult as for those ten men to defend their goal. And like you said, when you got that chance, when the opening
comes, you're gonna be able to take it. Yeah, And I think the two most important players now for the sound has becomes Jodan Morris on the left and an Alex were down on the right. Because the space is going to be out wide. The guys in the middle, JP Rosnacladero, they'll make the build up. They'll they'll attract players centrally to create space out wide. You're not going to be able to just get through the lines centrally as
much because that's where Houston is clogging up the space. You have to go around it. So Ali's rowdown with great things he does on the right. Jordan, we know how good he can be on his left hand side when he stays high and wide, gets isolated one on one with stories. That's where the space will be and that's what you have to focus on as the Sounds are doing right now. Alex Roldan opening up his legs down the right hand side, got some space and time, plays able back into Rosnack in
the middle of the field with JP. Now that time and space, JP has to dictate tempo as he flicks the ball from center to left to Jordan Morris as Steve mentioned, hugging the left hand touch line. Ladera finding some space on the left hand side, Baker comes inside on his right foot, plays the ball into JP. Quick touch to Ladera towards the end line. Left channel flicks the ball to the back post to Tevers A cushion header back
to the middle of the goal. Top of the box. Rosnack strikes well defended by our tour as Karaskier picks the ball up pressure from Tevers but good build up by the Sounders down the left hand side and there's block shot as Houston come away with it. Karaski a left hand channel clips the heels of Alex roll darn free kick for those Sounders on the Sounders right hand side, twenty five yards from the corner flag Jackson Reagan middle of the fielders. The
Sounders continue to prod and seek out the opportunities. The ball goes to the right hand side, Alex roll Darn flicks it along the six yard bucks to Jordan Murrius trying to miscontrol it. Miscontrols, it rolls over the end line for Houston gold kick steves a quantity and it's stund to turn into what looks like almost like a training drill, you know, attack versus defense, where it's just crossing and finishing, get the ball wide balls into the box.
And we've all been a part of those drills. And it's gonna be a long, long, long evening for the Houston d Animal because it's tough enough in that weather, that humidity, having to run and run and run and chase, which they were doing already at eleven v eleven now with a man less trying to close all the space, it's going to be a long evening for the Dynamo. But I've seen teams sometimes when you lose a man it rather as you can get you together up the sounders can't allow it to happen.
You take away any hope, any belief, and you do that by constantly putting them under pressure up which ultimate adventure he leads to gold Well Houston Dynamo, as we've mentioned, five clean sheets at home, eight goals given up on the season, that's second in MLS. So they're going to rely on that defensive play and that formidable record they have at home to try and
eke out some kind of result here. But they're certainly back on their heels as a Sounders maintained possession in their half of the field with rosnac into Tevis. But here's whether Houston Dynamo can break away in transition. It's her rare and middle of the field Taser clipboard to the back post headed well seen by Yeaymark Tevers clips the ball off Kera Skiers Shins runs out for a sound As
goal kick and for Stephfrian Fry, it's gonna be quite evening. For him, it's just about focused about making sure that he's ready for that one or two shots that come. Yeah, and I think Stephan Frey and Jackson Reagan and Yamo they won't see too much action, but they have to be so locked in because they will be transition opportunities for the Dynamody's going to be set
pieces. No team, even eleven v ten can dominate the entire game, every second, every minute, the sound is gonna have maybe up to seventy five even eighty percent of the board as this game goes on. Yeaymart and Reagan are gonna have a lot of the board. There'll be no pressure on them. There have to be good in their passes. But you're still defenders first. So when it's set pieces, when it's transition moments, definite fry
included, you've got to be looked in well. Sounds at sixty nine percent possession now as you'd expect, as you mentioned, as the ball gets shifted from right all the way to the left hand side, Jordan Morris top left corner of the box, comes inside, challenged by Franco, skips by Franco plays the ball to the left hand side, Ladero finding some space and join
the left hand side Baker supporting him. Is that encourages young left back to get around as your combination with Ladero, Ladero holds it comes inside to JP but pocket picked and it comes bad. Corey Baird, the Stanford graduate, played alongside Jordan Morris as he comes away that skips by three Sounders players no real options to play, eventually closed down by Cody Baker will played by the young left packers. It trickles out of bounds in front of the Houston benches.
Ben Olsen's shouting instructions, trying to encourage his team, and see so far, sometimes you see ten men, it doesn't feel like ten men. They're playing the front foot. They're certainly backing up and playing on the transition. Yeah, they're playing like ten men. I mean, it was quite clear right away. The adjustment. Ben also would make it's four four one. Let's be compact. I do think in a second half they'll try to be a bit more adventurous because you can't find ways even with ten men to
still have an attacking structure. He just doesn't have the time. The game's going, it's on the flight. It's very hard to get as a coach to get that message across to your players. For what you want, he has to show him on the board, probably a tactics board at half time. But for now, for the first half, for Houston, it's damaged
limitation. Try to get in level zero zero and they will make it a forty five minute game where maybe on a set piece, maybe in a transition, maybe a moment of magic from the likes of Herrera, and here we go. They've got a free kick now that can get the board into the box. Course confusion, this is what the game is for the Dynamo. Well, those are the cheap free kicks. The Bryan Schmitzer will certainly make sure his team don't do as he gets him in the dressing room. As
we get in the thirty second minute. Here at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas is Houston Dynamo Neil Sounders Neil Houston Dynamo. In the twenty first minute after a weather delay that caused the game to be suspended, as we've got going again at six forty eight Pacific time eight forty eight Local time, as Houston have a free kick on their left hand side. It's Herrera with his right foot. The captain of Mexico coming in in the twenty twenty two
from Athletico Madrid. Has had a good start to the year and we've seen this type of delivery from him on the left hand side with his right foot in swinger thirty five yards from the end line. As the balls clipped in to the front corner of the six yard bocks well headed by Cody Baker as Rosnex slides in clips off. Herrera goes for US Sounders thrown on their right hand side about fifteen yards from the corner flag as Alex Roldan jogs over.
Seems a quantity and I look at herrera situation reminds me a lot of very early on for the Sounds, when we bought across Freddie Lumberg, where you had this one guy who'd been in Invincible with Arsenal and we were came out of Akron, bred Evans came from Columbus, as bard Alonzo had just come from Charleston. He got all these young players around this big superstar. But we learned so much just about observing how we did things, and it's sort
of what Houston I'm seeing now Forrera. He has such a pedigree, such a resume, and you don't have many other guys on that team or sort of on that level, and so here's a lot of pressure he has to lead the way. But the value of having him every day in training, asking him questions, that's maybe what you'll see. And it's taken him some time on the pitch to have the impact, but he's slowly starting to do
that. And that's the evolution of MLS right, getting the players in at the right time, right experience to come in with the right attitude and certainly elevate the game. And everything we hear out of Houston is that he's certainly done that this season. Two goals and two assists on the year so far for Hector Herreras. The Sounders now in possession, already sixty nine percent possessions. The board goes from Yamar to roll down on the right hand side,
defended well by Franco Escobar. As he comes away that challenge by roll down, clips off, roll down defended well by Yeamar, goes back up. There's going to be a Houston throw. But Sounders fans, the next fifty years start now. Houston nil Sounders nil here in the thirty fifth minute a Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas as Houston down a man after a twenty first minute red card, trying to find a gap in transition with Hector Rara, but cut out well by Gaymar's as Sounders now time and space with Darrow center to left that Jordan Morris as they managed tempo sixty six percent of possession
so far. Rousnack thirty yards from Gold, drives forward top of the box, strikes, flicks off, Michael rolls out for a Sounders corner get their left hand stivee see Zaquani. And one of the challenges Houston will have is when they do get out in transition, once they lose it and the sound has been transitioned back the other way, they're not set. They don't have their block. They're two blocks of four, and those are the moments where
you saw Russneck. Then you can carry the board and really really get in the back lane corner. Get goes short to Courdy Baker flicks the ball on his right foot on their left hand side in swinging cross gets cleared by Houston. As Houston Karaska comes towards rolled down, no real pressure for roll down as he shifts it from right it's a center to JP to Courdy Baker's it
ball transitions to the left hand side. Good ball by Baker leading Freddie Ladero cross to the top of the six yard box, headed and cleared eventually by Houston. Dynam Up given away cheaply, not what they want to do as they try to maintain some kind of tempo as the home team. But down a man as a sound has come again with Yao Paolo on their left hand side back in the starting lineup after missing out against Sporting case dude the yellow
card accumulation and Alex roddwn right hand side back to his familiar rights. But Tevers gets to start to night to Russneck as a sound as now trying to find that opportunity to that one chance to test Steve Clark, and so far Steve thirty six minutes gone. Steeve Clark really hasn't been tested. He hasn't. That's gonna please Ben also on a lot because and that maybe the one little thing that was gonna irk Branch best a little bass. Okay, we've
had a possession, We've done what we need to do. We're getting the ball out wide really haven't looked like scoring. We haven't really got after Houston and put them under pressure where they're just under the caution. They look at they look like they're about to concede. That hasn't happened yet. So yes, more chances, test Steve Clark a little bit more and it's gonna be a long game. You've gotta be very very patient, but still very precise.
When you get Indie these eras in and a round a box in the final, Food sounds in good possession. Certainly been a possession based team this year, first in MLS coming into this weekend and total passes and again we're already at three hundred passes. The ball comes into a bear, skips by Karaskia to the end line, clips off Franco Escobar goes out for a sound as corner kick. It looks like a bear got called by the sister referee
for offside and it'll be a breather for Houston Dynamos. Free kick for them inside their six yard bucks And this is the exact thing you want from Addiced Rodan in the final, Food makes a great running behind, cuts it back to a bear. Is a difficult board you couldn't shoot first time, So Indian tries to win a corner. The flag beats him as he's offside.
But it is those kinds of run where Addie Rodan is becomes very important key figure because these qualities being out wide, being able to put in a good final board is so what you have to lean on when you're facing such a compact block. Ball goes along one by Yamos. Sound has come away that again, already over three hundred passes on the game so far, sloppy by roll down, but the sound has found it again with Jackson Reagan from center
to right. Now Tevers had some time in spaces, Escobar chases him down. Tevis, skipped by Escobar, goes center to rosneck flick with the outside of his foot to Cody Baker inside from his left back spot tries to get around him, encouraged by JP and Ladera to create some width down the left hand side as Jordan Morris holders position. As Cody Baker tries to come inside, the ball goes outside, rolls out for Houston Dynamo and throw the deep
on their right hand side, but the Sound is gonna press. Now keep that ball in that sounders left hand side. The Houston right asteris picks a ball up for a throw. I've actually been very impressed by the start Baker's had, you know, I think, and I think he's probably got a lot more confidence now and then okay, they're gonna have ten men, they're
gonna sit back a bit more. I can probably join the attack. He's taken a very high attacking position here, and when he's been caught on defensively, there was a ball hover played to the back post and Baker had to be there to make the header intercept. And I always feel defensively, it's the positional part way. It's hard to you know, the one v one defender man, Yes, you all learned that, but positionally been in tune with your back for playing the off side trap covering when you have to.
He's done a very good job, and so kudos to the young man here for his opening forty minutes. It's Houston in transition. It's Corey Baird left hand side to Escobar comes into Karaskia to twenty five yards from goals center. The park skips by JP top of the box, ball goes to Franco end line clips off Cody Baker and a fist pumped by Cody Baker defended World clips
off Franco for a sounded goal kick little warning sign. Yes you heard all the game, all the board, but no team can dominate every second of every game. And that was a little snippet. The Dynamo do have quality and they go into the final third. There, ball coming across and again Baker for the further or fourth time. He's being caught upon defensively doing a
great job, and I love his reaction there. I love seeing defenders celebrate defensive place because you guys don't get too much of a chance to celebrate. It's always the attacking guys you get to celebrate. So you make a broke, you make your head up. Yeah, that's fist pump, high five. I love all of them. You have to pick the time and moments, right, He can't be fist pumping a five yard passing a central midfield player as Jackson Reagan does just that. It plays a five yards past,
no fist pump. It's experienced. It just needs to do that possession. By this sound, there's no real pressure from Houston, but they'll pick and choose their moments to step as they've shown in transition the ball goes towards the end line, Tebbi's time and space in the box clips into the middle, Jordan Morris head over the top. Houston Dynamo gold kick remains Neil Neil. But that's good again and yeah again, all surprise is coming from the wide
areas. There's been nothing through the middle of which they won't be much of today. And Jordan Morris, who's been excellent with his head this season so far are and he's been fantastic. First time we've really seen did in Tever's being the one in the final third on the right hand side. He sat the ball up well and that's tough with Joda Morris, he was always underneath it. But good to see him as the opposite wing up getting into the
box when his right midfield is putting the ball into the box. We saw tabs with a header on the six yard box. Now Morris and even with the size and height of Bartler, Michael Sound is finding positions to win those headers. But as you mentioned, five shots in the game so far, no shots on target. Haven't really tested Seeds Clark. Yeah, and that's
going to be what has to be addressed at half time. Still five minutes plus some change here to see if the Sounders can change that without the intervention of Bran Schmidtz and his coaching stuff. But Preky and Bran Schmidzer and Preky especially he works with those attacking players. They'll be trying to think figure out ways how can we generate more quality looks at goal. We haven't seen a
bear really tested goalkeeper Nadero Rusnak and the likes of those. Herrera picks the ball trust by a combination with Franco nothing there as a bear comes away that pressed by Herrera. Free kick given on a bear in the sound As half of the fields. The Sounders came away with it. In transition, Herrera arguing with referee Vasquez and a bear gets bundled in from behind. Easy called by the referee as the Sounders have possession and a free kick inside there half
of the field. As we get towards the forty second minute here in Houston, Texas, Houston nils Sounders nil on nine fifty KGr am as the Sounders have possession again. Well, we'll see for the majority of this game as Sounders maintaining possession, dominating possession, dominating passes, But is it going to
be that one chance that gets the goal. It's gonna be patients needed for the Sounders, and certainly Cody Baker Dylan Tevers good opportunity for them tonight as they get their starts from well deserving performances in midweek against the alle Galaxy. As the Sounders now from center to the far side the right, Alex roll dime to Tevers. Severs skips by, but well defended by Herrera, drops the ball back to Michael left foot long and high. Nobody forward for Houston,
Keraskier, the midfield players, the highest players. The Sounders come again, but it's gonna be much of this, Steve as we look forward towards the end of this first half. Yeah, and if you're a Sounders you can't get tired of doing the basics right, Because sometimes you can think, okay, we're passing the ball left to right, left to right, let me try and force the issue here. You cannot. You have to stay patient, keep doing the right things and wait for the game to come to
you, wait for the moment to come to you. When you're eleven against ten with this much of the ball, you expect to score, expect to win. You can start to force the issue a little bit. It's gonna be very important that the likes of John Pola and Nicoladero stay patient, even up with seventy percent of the board, which I expect to even go up even more as this game goes on in the second half. You have to
be patient because one nails as good as five minute. He both gives you three points, and it can come in the forty second minute or the eighty seventh minute. It's the same three points. Ball goes into Joe Morris now inside him is left midfield spot and it's JP from center to the fast side of the right to Alex Roldan controls it well comes back to Yama or ten players for Houston inside their defensive third of the field of the Sounders try to
find an opening, try to test Steve Clark in the goal. Good ball by Baker goes into Jordan Morris, won by Bartlow and Houston and they clear the ball out Sounders throwing their left hand side. If you're gett into the forty fourth minute here Houston nil, Sounders nil. The score update is presented by Provalent Swedish as Michel controls the ball, clears the ball, and here
come Houston in transition. We've seen this is the danger that a team on ten men can pose in transition as a sound is pressed a little bit high. Now with the bare top of the box, Laderos showing the way Jordan Morris slides across the stairs on their right hand side, as the Houston Dynamo trying to build out the back as Rosneck comes tight launches along by Bartlow goes
out of bounds, exactly what Brian Schmitzer would want to do. Absolutely, you now have the license to press even higher than usual because you have a spare man somewhere on the field, so you can send two players at times to a player, and it's gonna be hard for Houston to play out of that. They're gonna have to go long, and when they go along,
they're just giving the ball back to the Seattle Sounders. And so this is set up perfectly for what Bran Smister wants to do, and I like that he plays are still high pressing forty four minutes in here trying to get the border back, because it really would be great to go in ahead at halftime because that changes the pitch for the one the Dynamo has to be. They're gonna have to come out to try to salvage something Young get us no nail.
It helps the Dynamo. They're ball into their bare back to goal. Drops the ball to JP about thirty yards from goal. Center of the field, goes to the left. Cody Baker, number thirty three, comes back, no options forward, comes back to JP and maintains possession. Good little combination with Baker and JP. As the ball finds Jackson Reagan middle of the field. Clip ball to the right hand side as Alex Holdon hugs that right
touch line about twenty two yards from the end line. Comes inside. It was an overlapping run by Ladero. The ball came inside Eventually Darren does get it now to Tevers right side of the box. Ball comes in along six yard box, well defended by Stairs. He flicks the ball up. It goes for a Sounders story and their left hand side. It's a really good ball by Tevers. Fantastic ball right along the six shard nine and it's got
to be saying Stare is dealt with that as well as you can? Is all he could do was flick the ball and help it on because if he doesn't get there first, you have a certain Jordan Morris standing all behind him
ready to pounce and gives the Sound as the lead. The extra mile stoppage time is two minutes two minutes as we conclude this first half after a stoppage due to weather delay a red card in the twenty first minute on the Houston top screw a bassie after VR checked by the referee, and the Sounders now continue to dominate possession sixty nine percent possession so far as the Sounds pick it up on the right hand side defended well, but Escobar slides down wins the
ball, clips the ball down the line, but Yemar, now in a much more advanced position, picks it up and the sound has come again. As we get into the last minute of this first half, as Jordan Morris left hand side, Cody Baker, who seems a board nothing on forward, goes back to Jordan Morris, supports him on the left hand side, receives it back, goes to Linkola Dari who has found some space on the left hand side. Often this first half, as Jordan Morris drives forward gets closed
down by her Rare. Nothing given by the referee eventually is a free kick, and eventually it looks like the referee calls it early. Is that a halftime whistle, will just have to wait and see. Nope, free kick for Houston Dynamo to get into the last thirty seconds of this half. Steve.
The stat that just came across the screen for us here was the zero shots on target for both teams and that's what's going to bove a branch meta here because to not have been able to generate a way to force Steve Clark into a slave that will be disappointing, especially with how much of the border Sunders have had, how many crosses have come in, and that's maybe going to be the focus of in that fifteen minute halftime, Probably you spend forteen
minutes talking about how can we start to generate chances, because yes, possession is good and more for that, if you're not creating quality golden looks that's forcing the oppetition goalkeeper into saves, then it really isn't worth it. Referee bast Kids puts the whistle to his mouth and blows for halftime here in a
somewhat kg first half, no shots and gold. Steve Zaquani mentioned, but the Sounders upper man after a red card the twenty first minute on Bussy after a VR check, Steve, your final thoughts encouraging for the Sounders because they started a game well, came out after the weather delay and still played well. The red card has swung this game completely into the Sounders favor. It's there for the taking and now it's a bit of disappointment that haven't created enough
chances. But forty five minutes still to come in the second half and it's tough to see how the Dynamo can keep this team at bay. We'll take a short break, Jackson Felt to Pete Viewing. We're back to break it all down at halftime here at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. It's Dynamo nil, Sounders nil. Listen to this, say what's up Sounders fans.

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show. Well, no score between your Seattle Sounders in the Houston Dynamo. After a busy, busy forty five minutes plus an hour long
weather delay. Welcome into the halftime show. Jackson, Felts and Pete viewing back here in Seattle at the KJR Studios. Well, that was an interesting forty five let's go through it. The Sounders maybe their best chance the entire half came before the weather delay, which was in the ninth minute. The best chance was probably in the third minute Nicholas Laderyl corner that was headed by Dylan Tevez that went just a couple feet above the crossbar. That we might
have been the Sounders best chance. Then, as we mentioned, there was a lightning delay in the ninth minute that lasted almost exactly one hour. Restart happened about six forty eight and they played the remaining minutes in the first half. Then in the twenty first minute, Bossi the star for Houston, their big star who they signed in January from the second division in France five goals and seven starts this year. He got a red card for a studs up
tackle on Nicholas Ladero. Had to go to va R review. Yes it was studs up, it was clear and he got a red card. So the Sounders were playing a man up from the twenty first minute on but Pete Fewing and this is probably, you know, for me, the kind of the of all those crazy things that have happened, the bold headline coming out of for me of the first half was despite playing a man up to being the better team for the first twenty one minutes this match. The Sounders do
not have a shot on goal right now. Yeah, they've been they've been patient, but almost too patient in my opinion. Go forward penetrate, it's not on. So then they come back, go back across the side to side too, like the cracking on a power place sometimes. Yeah, maybe just a little bit too much side to side. I'd love to see. Alex Roldn had an opportunity wide right about twenty two yards out. He started to come inside and then just played the ball back to Jackson Reagan. I
think he could have slipped a little diagonal ball in. I think they need a little bit more movement off the ball. And you know, it's good that we're keeping possession. It's you know, we talk about patients and possession, but I think Seattle could take a little bit more risks in and around the edge of the eighteen no shots on goal. It's not really a stat that Brian Schutz is gonna be happy with. I mean four basically a four
hundred passers there. They're three hundred and ninety nine total passes there in the first forty five minutes. That's by passing right, I mean really ninety one percent passing accuracy. It's been just in. These numbers are insane for the Sounders, but it is just kind of the horizontal horizontal. Now on the good side, I think Cody Baker's stepping in his first MLS start, second overall start, its third overall start. Excuse me, but first MLS debut
for for the kid Jody. Cody Baker has been fantastic for He's been really good both hend at Dylan Tevis to play with confidence. Teams trust the players trust him. They give him the ball in tight spaces. He's known when to play the quick one. I was impressed. He had it on the left hand side, cut across the edge of the box, tried to play a ball in. He played in a very good ball to Jordan Morris through
the channels. So he's been really good. And you know, you heard Steve and Danny talked about when he went in on the tackle and it caramed off of the Houston player. He was very excited about a making the tackle. It was I think it was Franco and and he was and he was he had to catch up to him, and so he did a really good job of you were closing him around, really excited about that, it was, And that's great. That's great. It's confidence, you know, and
that gives you energy and gives your teammates confidence as well. So I think he's been very very good. And you know, we got thin real quick without knew who and uh Kellen Row. So he's done the job so far. It is helpful for him that now they're playing against a four four one, so you know, you got four defenders for Seattle. It's interesting to see if Seattle goes to three at the back to try to push someone else
forward and maybe get a second forward in I love that idea. Let's take a break, let's continue, and let's talk about what they can do to get that ball into the back of the net. How can they come home with three points? I'd like a little bit more penetrating passes Jordan Morris at moment he stayed at the back post. Tevi's got the
cross in. He's got to get to the near post, get some more guys through the box and do take a little bit of risks in the you know, when you're twenty yards out instead of going back sideways and back switching the point of the tech, try to play in some penetrating balls. We've got to get some shots. A couple of shots from the edge of the box pulls the defense out and that might open some things up for a bear to find some openings. So I think Freddy Montero could be a help.
He was great when he came in against Minnesota. There was a throw into the near post. He got big, he got strong, he turned, he laid it back to Rusneck. That was the game winning goal for a one zero win. I think Freddie could help the Sounders today. Could be for Tevez, you know, and that way you keep, you keep that right hand. Stevo has played a lot in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Yeah,
and so that might be a good opportunity. But Freddie right now seems to be able to come in and have a really good impact against San Diego and the US Open Cup. He got a couple of goals. He leads this team all time in goal scoring, and why not give him an opportunity to the last thirty minutes. Absolutely, we'll throw it back down to Houston, Texas. Welcome back to Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. As the players get ready to kick off the second
half. It's Houston Dynamo nil, Sound As nil. We're late into the second half, weather delay early in the first half due to lightning in the area, but hopefully we'll get a clean forty five minutes here and as sound as goal as the Sounders get going and they're shooting from left right. Sounders in their traditional rave green shirts, blue shorts and green socks. Houston Dynamo in orange shirts, range shorts, orange socks. Houston downer man red cup
to Bussy in the twenty first minute after a vaar call. The referee went over to the monitor called it and he got a red card and the Sound has been playing up a man ever since and dominating possession over seventy percent possession so far in the game, dominating the game in all sorts of facets, attacking passes, passes in total, and the Sound has already dominate MLS in
terms of that statistic number one coming into this weekend and total passes. But Steve, what's Brian Schwetza said at half time, I think for the most part will be more of the same. So try to get the ball wide, press high when we can, press high when we can, but be wary of the transition and I think just clean up a little bit in the final third in terms of list variant. Now, what it means is, how do you draw a team out that's sitting solo, so shots from distance?
For example, job Parlo, he's got a cannon, so does rustling Bay. Can't you from distance? Can we see a bit more of that? You do that a couple of simes. It's going to force uson to come out. Now the spacing behind as well, because right now the space is only outside, which is not a problem. Or you need to create more ways to attack. Late tackle on Ladero as he received the ball with his back to gold up hit by Stas as he came out of his right
back spot challenged Nicoladero. There was Nicoladero who was the victim of that red card as well as a high studs up challenge through the middle of his shin, and certainly we've seen Nicoladero get hit many times in games. Doesn't often stay down. As Steve Zaquany mentioned, he stayed down and it was certainly a nasty challenge on the replay and the referee gave their red card. As the Sounders now Jackson rigg the middle of the field in Houston territory, and
it's gonna be much of this in the second half. As Houston back down with two banks of four. As the ball goes from center to write the near side, Alex Roldan whips the ball in top of the six. Flick by her there and it was Jordan Morris a whisker away from getting on the end of it. As Cody Baker chases the ball down, deflects off a Houston player. It's gonna be a throne for the Sounders that the ball comes in short to Ladera flicks in flick by Russneck. Jordan Morris clecks the ball
in his chest but cleared well by Houston dynamo. But Steve zaquanny chance for the Sounders early in the second half, and that was exactly what Bryan Smister would have acted. Seed boards out wide and eat road down whips in a really good board. It beared us a great job just helping it on and Jordan just inches away. Morris is inches away from turning that in. And it's what it's gonna take. You see, It's one of those sounds.
Get the first one. I could see the floodgates opening three four because it's hard for Houston to stay compact in that situation. Cody Baker in side the box, tries to cut the ball back. It was a good ball to the top of the box. Nobody there for the sounders, and Steve mentioned that's why the players need to be top of the box. With those Sharks,
we've seen Rosnex scorers. Lada plays the ball in well, collected by Steve Clark and Jordan Morris flashing in between the two center backs towards the front post, inches away from getting it on the end of it, but Steve Clark collects is going to be Houston building out the back. But even in this opening three to four minutes or second half, it already feels different. There's more intensity, the cross is a bit sharp, but the runs a
bit more deliberate. Jordan's sprinting a bit more so. I think branch Meiser probably he would. He would have let a fou under his voice saying, look, this is a chance to pick up three points. In a Numinus season, you accept that, especially away from home, you're gonna drop some points. But when you get a chance to win games away from home, especially like this one, the odds stacks in your favor, you've got to
take them. That's what makes a difference between having a really good he's on a support a shield type of season and just being sort of meal of the pack. And so I think for Branch Metzler seeing the way they come back second half, the running is a bit strung, the crossing is a bit better. It's a good sign and it's just takes one get the first goal,
and I think it's a long way back for the Dynamo. It's a good opportunity to the Sounders yet back in the winning column to get three points to cement their play at the top of the Western Conference, which they were number one coming into this weekend. As Kiss, Franco comes away with it, but well defended by Baker and then Japaolo and Jackson Reagan calm as you like, flays the ball into Rosneck, who slips the ball to the right hand side. TEBs right corner of the box, goes by Michael towards the
end. Like Michael, Well defended, puts pressure on TEBs, but Tevez is able to turn and Esquire comes flying in, starts up, missing the ball, misses the man. The Sounders maintained possession, but certainly tenpo is a bit quicker, paces, a little bit quicker as the Sounders try to find that opening goal. I think patient Steve is the key here. You've got to be patient as much as you want to force the issue and poor and there's times to be a bit more direct. You've got to be patient.
You cannot get frustrated if you start to create chances. Maybe you start getting shots on gold and it's not quite forwarding because that gold could come in the last minute and it's the same three points. You listen, you push for it, you go for it. Will be patient. Ladera told the box, flicks the ball to Baker left hand side towards the end line, comes back on his right foot, plays a ball short to Ladero, end
line, comes to his left foot, clips it off stairs. It goes out for a sound As corner kick on their left hand side, but sound as FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of sound as FC. As Ladero on the left hand side goes short to Baker top corner of the box. The right stays on that left channel with Ladero gets towards the end line challenged by Franco comes in towards the six yard box, defended
well by Bartlow. The Woodenville, Washington native played his youth soccer at Crossfire, played his collegiate soccer at the University of Washington. Is played every single game this year in that center back spot. As the ball goes from the center to write to Tevers as he whips the ball in, goes high and long over the top, and just what Houston would want, gold kick Houston.
Houston, I have not left their half at all really in this in the second half, and we want to see if Ben also would make any adjustments, maybe be a bit more aggressive. Doesn't seem to be that way, very happy to sit in a four four one, be very defensive. So it is going to be a game of they're gonna halt for a set piece, maybe a transition moment, but they'll be happy to leave this with zero zero. Let's get to that starting lineup for the Sounders can be on
the second half, no changes to formation or personnel. Frying goaler back four of roll darn Yeamart Reagan, Baker, Sharpallo and Rosneck in front the attack in three of Tevers Ladera, Morris and it bear up front as Steve Clark Decktown all yellow for Houston. Dynamo puts the ball in the corner of his six yard box pushes his back for up as you'd expect, playing a man down after that first half, Red car to their top scorer with five goals.
Busy after a VA call, the ball goes along towards Franco. The Paraguayan lets the ball rollers Sounders, where Cody Baker has it ball in his hands about twenty five yards from the Sounders end line. Cody Baker's solid start so far to this game and his MLS first start in MLS got his debut last weekend sporting Caseinge played in the middle of the week as George Morris, now in transition, plays the ball to Ladera middle of the park, overlapping
run by Alex roll Dan. Ladera finds him, but it's closing down well by Starers, who slides across, wins the ball and plays the ball to Corey Baird, who clecks the ball no real pressure from the Sounders goes square to Keres Gear on the right hand side. Houston, now in transition time and space on the balls, they cross into Sounders half of the field comes inside, flipping the way outside his foot given away by Bed and not what ben Olsen would want from his team. As the Sounders now in transition.
Roseneck from center to right, Alex roll Dan high up the field on the right hand side level the eighteen yard box comes back, nothing on and the sound has now built more possession and this is the first time the games really begins to open up. Now we're signed to see a more back of forth transition game. Baker left hand side or some space, comes inside the box, flicks with his left foot and it's rusknack top of the box, left
foot and it's wide. It was a scuff shot initially by Rosack. He got his own rebound and plays the ball wide, but it deflects off a Houston Dynamo player for a Sounders corner kick, and that's the danger the Dynamo will have. They dared to venture for it into the attack. They lost it, and the sound As were back. When Houston cannot be set into two blocks or four, that's when the Sounds after shrike and they went down that occasion. The Russna, for his quantity, should have done better with
the first one. Ball comes in outswinging corner kick top of the six, defended by terrors and Staris clears it. But it's a clash of heads Franco and I thinks Escobar got a whack on the side of the head and the Houston Dynamo player is down. Medical staff will come on, the referee will take no chances with a head injury. But let's get to that. Houston Dynamo starting ten after that red card, Steve Clark and goal are back four of Stas Bartlow, mcaal and Escobar. A midfield four now of Kaskia Our
Tour Herrera and Franco and then Corey Baird up front and Steve. We've seen that temper pick up in this first in the second half, Branch Schwetz's words have obviously resonated because about patients as well and find that wall opportunity to get the goal. Yeah, it's the balance and I think it's I think it's
simple. You take what a game gives you in sense when Houston set and then the two blocks of four defending, then you can be patient, then you can try and get the ball wide and things about nature race when you win. In transition, you can really get out and Houston isn't set. That's when you really have to be dynamic. There was an attack the Sounder
side where Nicoladero had Alex rodanodver Lappin try to find him. I thought Nico could have used Alex's running, probably gone himself and tried to take a shot from distance. We haven't seen enough of that from the Sounders. Well, this copyrighted audio casts a Major League soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced,
or rebroadcast without the express written scent of Major League soccer. As a ball goes long to Franco twenty yards from the Sounders goal, defended well by Jackson Reagan and the Sounders as you'd expect, pick up the second ball from the deflected block and it goes out to Tevis, rolls out of bounce in front of the Houston Dynamo bench. Is gonna be a Dynamo thrown on their left
hand side. But Houston come in sixth in Western Conference coming into this game fourteen points, four, three and two on the season, ten goals scored eight only eight goals against. It's been defense has been the bedrock of their success. So far this year, big turnover, big changes in the offseason, ben Olsen coming in as head coach, new players coming in, Bassie red card top scorer with five goals, but players like Herrero two goals to
assist on the season so far. As the Sounders get a free kick as Corey bed leans into TeVeS on the Sounders right hand side, and the Sounders now with a free kick all under deck, they'll want to get this game going and certainly an opportunity to get three points after the back of two losses Sporting KSEC two one at home last week and a loss to Alec alex C in midweek and open cups. Kiski comes away that's rounded by four Sounders players,
closed down by Jackson Reagan. It goes from center to right to Franco closed down by Baker, being solid so far in this game, goes back nothing unavailable. It bar drops back and leathern men behind the ball for the Sounders as Houston now having a little bit of possession and the attacking half of
the field for the Sounders. As it slides from center to left and miss Escobar comes back on his more preferred right foot, closed down by Alex Roldon nor Kraft turn cuts it back, goes towards his left foot, drives it in, deflected by Dylan Tevers comfortably in the hands of separ and Fry remains here in Houston, Texas Houston nil Sounders nil Seesa Quanti, and it will
see some of that too. As a game goals. As sounds, you're not going to have, you know, ninety percent of the ball Indie opponent's half in the final furt At times you've got to accept they will get out in the attack. And I think as this game goes the longest zero zero, Ben Olsen will start to smell situation where maybe we can nick one here, Maybe we can when we can get a bit lucky here, maybe in
a transition, maybe something special, So they'll become less conservative. As this game goes on, all the left hand side drilling day and by Jordan Morris, and it's slices and deflects across the six yard box and easily collected by Steve Clark. But to give you an example of the dominance of Sounders in possession, Sounders have seventy two percent possession, which is certainly very uncommon as
an away team. Much about the red card, of course, but approaching five hundred passes to Dynamo's one hundred and ninety three, so domination in terms of possession time on the ball. But it's the sounds looking still for that opportunity on goal Seeve Clark hasn't been tested yet. As Nicolodera goes down at Hector Arera in the face of the referee pulled away by our tour yellow card for the main man for Houston Dynamo for a sliding tackle on Nicolodero. Well,
it look like there's a couple here. Referee could have called it a bear went down initially either did a quarter foul played advantage. Nicoladero then gets towards the border and he looked to be taken out completely there by it. But I think that's the foul. First of all, you can't go through a player there, and I have no idea what horror is compaigning about? Zero idea was that fout alone? He's worth for yerow card and then you
add in the descent to the referee. It's the yellow card. But again probably just a little bit frustrated, but there's no doubt whatsoever you have three got that quarter right well, certainly, Stephan FRI's gonna be quiet in the Sounders goal tonight. He's not going to add to the saves too much of his now fourth spot. In the last game, he's surpassed John Bush to go to fourth all time in MLS of saves, surpassed Tony Miola earlier in
the season. As Houston maker's substitution, it's gonna be Franco comes off, and it's going to be the former Sounders player Brad Smith of coming back from an ACL injury he picked up in twenty twenty two. He was an offseason acquisition for Houston Dynamo, coming in from DC United. As he gets some
time now. As we approached the fifty ninth minute Houston nil. Sounders nil here and Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas and Brass miss a player we know well, I had some very very good years here and Seattle, very impatiful player. I had built a very good partnership on the left hand side
with Victor Rodriguez back in those days for the Sounders. But this is a sign of Wie spoke about zero zero thirty minutes to goal, There's going to be a little bit more ambition as this game goes on, if it's day zero zero from Ben Alson and Brassmith's the first one bot to left hand side z it Bear tries to hit it from the peak spot, swivels slides it up in the air, eventually cleared by Houston Dynamo, but looks like brad
Smith's could have slide in on that left midfield position and try and solidify those two blocks of four as they try to defend this goal zero zero here in Houston, Texas as a sound As playing upper man after a twenty first minute red card by I Mean Bassie for Houston Dynamo. As the Sounders continue to dominate possession as they slide it from right to center to is nicol Dera tries to find the ball step over by your bare top of the box deflected.
It's Karaskier now who comes away with it, closed down by Russneck and a Bear, and a bear comes away with it with TeVeS loses the ball, gets his pocket picked by Herrera and the Sounders now retreating as Houston coming transition. As Escobar gets pressure from Yamah and Alex Roldan, ball goes out Houston throwing on their left hand side, and I think Brad Smith's just to add
one will point on him. I think what he adds is he does give him a transition because he can run Breastmith is a guy who maybe can force Alex rod back a bit more and ash or Dan has been It just depends
if he gets those opportunities. But if you, somed anymore, get the ball and are push him forward into the Sounders attack and half they do have a willing run on his left hand side, and that will be the reason why Ben Olsen would have brought on bred Smith our tour in possession, tries to find his way forward and Sounders are able to come away with it with
Yeamar, but let's get you the Sounders bench branch. But so will look to his bench at some point tonight, Sosoko, Oriaga, Blair, Steph Cleveland, Josh Atencio, Montero, Reed, Baker, Whiting, Paul Rothwalk after the goalie God against La Galaxy gets his on the bench and then Keita horror as a sound As on the right hand side with Tevers now roll darn it's been advanced and to his right backspot ever since that red card, especially
but certainly in the season so far as starting spot much higher. He's enjoying that freedom as the ball goes from center to left. Sloppy by Jackson Reagan. Just what Brian Schwitzer probably warned against, Steve, not be sloppy, don't give away anything cheap exactly. And on that occasion what Reagan's happier about. The ball goes out of play. Well, you do that, it's intercepted. They're going the other way, so you have to be very careful,
especially with the time and space. Nicola d o listen, you cannot do that again. Cory Bird does an excellent acting job selling that. But the moment you put your hands on a player to push them, they're gonna sell it. And then there gets a needless yellow card. Well, those are the things that when you've given a ray of red card the referee you're not saying he's looking for anything, but the sounders going to be very careful.
And the play of his experience to put his hands against the chest of Corey Bed because he used to walk away pushed away by Yemo Corey Bed, yet time wasting picking up the ball. Is that a little frustration Steve by Ladero just the way the game's going so far with downt with dealt out of ten menu other men. Yeah, and he cas a winner, and he knows that the sound is he have a golden opportunity to pick up three points a golden one. Anything less than a win here it will be very,
very disappointing. So Nikoladero knows that he knows the clock's ticking. He knows that they haven't generated anywhere near the kind of chances they did have wanted to the d Animore now going to play this game a bit of gamesmanship, waste time, walked every throwing, walked to every set piece, and it's going to frustrate. The sound is more and more, but you can't allow it to weppen. If a Nikoladero and the team goes as he goes, he has to keep his head in it. You've got a lead. And I
love what Yama did. They came right away across, took the derrow way, and I was good leadership from Yemo. Houston Nil sounds nil here at Shell Energy Stadium or nine fifty kjr am as a sound as in the attacking third of the field. Now with possession used to nike it away momentarily, but GP comes away with the middle of the field thirty yards from goal, goes from center to the far side the left. Jordan Morris the left corner of the box, skips by, drives the ball in flashes across the six
yard bucks nobody there, but it's rolled down. It cleects. The ball goes to Rose the top of the box, defended well by Bartlow who plays the ball with Herrera, Kirkaraskia and Jackson Reagan. And it's a shot from forty sixty yards. The step from fire managed to scramble back. It's a yellow card I think by jack to Jackson Reagan for that initial pulled more the
intent versus the execution. Steve, Yeah, I'm okay with that, but I don't know that he can called us back for a free kid because you gave the advantage there in no occasionally just cause the player shots from sixty yards and none finds that advantage. I don't think Raffie should bring that back for that. Reagan makes a foul there, the play goes on. That's an
extremely ambitious attempts against death and fright. But I still think you can give the yellow card then let the play continue Houston getting two bites at the apple here. If the ball goes along to Brad Smith is he battles for it with the Amar shoved off, the ball, ball goes long, plighted by Michael and a Bear putting some pressure on as the ball goes back to Steve Clark in the Houston Gold deck down all yellow sound. Isn't their traditional rave
green shirts tonight attacking the right side, it's tackling left or right. Goes by Jackson rating to flicks the ball up and over to Corey Bed. Corey Baker gets hit late by Corey Bed and it's probably as much frustration from the situation before with Ladero as anything, and Baker plays it off well. Sounds free kick left hand side. Yeah, but the game it's just becoming a bit sloppy, a little bit chippy, and I feel that's whos Houston because
it's gonna be. It doesn't allow to sound as free throwing players to really find their groove and do what they do best. And we'll probably argue into the point now where Bra that's have to think about what can I change because this hasn't worked yet. We've been okay, but we should have got more. So you're looking at the legs of a Freddie Montea on the bench. Comes to mind right away. He's a guy who can shoot from distance, drop into half spaces, start to find guys making runs off the board.
So Schmeisz's mind has to be going towards what can you change? Cody Baker left corner of the box, look one two with JP wriggles past Escobar. Nothing given, it's gonna be a goal kick for Houston Dynamo. Sixty six minute here but Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, from nine fifty KGr
Houston nil, Sounders nil. Sound As upper man after a red card in the twenty first minute on bassie for the Houston Dynamo after VR review, as Mickel picks it up left their left corner of the eighteen yard bucks defensively, it goes to Escobar, give us a ball away and here comes the Sounders again in the attacking half of the field. Seventy two possession, but that's not materialized to chances on goal. Steve Clark not been tested yet. No
shots on target yet for the Sounders. Does they continue to try and find that opening, that opening goal, Try and find that win. Six clean sheets on the season so far for Stephen Fry, as it remains Neil Neil here as the sounds thirty yards from goal, Jackson Reagan to Rosneck Pace needs to pick up a little bit, trying to find combinations top of the boxes. Rosa tries to wriggle free but Herrera comes away that Karaskier now is Corey
bed makes a in transition. Dynamo surrounded by Yamar, runs into Yeaymar. Nothing given by the referee. Cordy Baker clecks the ball, plays the ball to Stephen Fry, chase by Houston Dynamo with Escobar and as he runs all the way back, gives tam As a little shove as he runs back to his left back spot and he's Nicoladeerra now who has the ball in across the halfway line into Houston Dynamo half of the field in their territory as the sound
is looking for that opening goal. But Steve, we talk about the substitutions for Brian Schmitzer as we're getting the sixty seventh minutes, getting about that time to try and change things up. Yeah, it is, and I think there's options here because there's also a situation where do you put Jordan Morris at the nine. I mean he's playing pretty central now, allowing Baker to be
the one given a width out wide. But you know, if Montero comes in, you take out a defender and add Montera is an extrattack and player because you don't you probably don't need four back there, because you've seen every time Houston's got in transition, it's Corey Bird buy himself isolated. No one's joining games, So I don't know what you need four back. Then we've seen sounds played was free at the back very well, So Brian has some
options. But I think it's getting to that time, approaching a seventieth minute, where he's got to make a decision for what he wants to do. So let me ask you a question. You play three at the back to then playing four, you allow the both the outside backs to go and you can almost defend with two, or do you try and drop a third guy in there just for protection. As justuston Dynamo coming transition, Karisker tries to flick it around the corner to Brad Smith and it's Stephan Frey cleets the ball.
Yeah, I think it's a great question. I think you can do. He has options here. I think you don't want to lose your width. You want so I think a Rodon gives you the opportunity to be your right wing back on one side. Who can you possibly play as the left wing back? I think Baker, from what I've seen, can do the job. I'm not sure that it's his natural role in what he wants to
play, but I think you can do the job. I think the key is to get more quality attacking players on the pitch, a guy like Montell who can unlock players. This is a magician. On his best day, he can be a wizard who can unlock players. And I think there's no need to have four defenders when Houston attacking with one Tever's top of the box
sounders trying to find that opening goal here in Houston, Texas. Neil Neil as the ball goes the right inside, whipped in by Alex Roldan, collected by bad as he clicks on his chest, players at the outside of his foot and the sound has come again. No pressure on the ball with Yamar and Alex Roldan as he comes off his right backspot comes inside JP looks up,
looks for options. Cody Baker inside good little combination with Rosa, strikes the ball and it's just saved by Steve Clark on the second attempt, flicks the ball up in the air, clicks it securely in the second time. But that's what you want. Steve Zac shot from the box. It's taking seventeen minutes, but this is exactly what we've been crying out for Baker.
They're taking up an attacking position. There finds Russneck and why not have a shot because the next time Russ Nag gets the board there, the Dynamo are going to have to come out and press him. And now you start to create spasin behind for the lacks of Jordan Morris to run onto, which hasn't
been there all afternoon. Everything has been in front of the Dynamo. Nikel lays the ball back to Steve Clark who with his left foot his weaker left foot, goes along and Yama collects on his chest, right and side in front of the Dynamo bench pressure from Brad Smith, but comes back and the Sounders are going to build again. Try to find that first opportunity to try
and get that goal. And that was the first shot and target first safe for Steve Clark by Russneck as Ladera goes from center to left Jordan Morris as Baker comes more inside now and trying to find the ball, find the game, getting confidence to a young man as a sound as with their outside backs tucked in now as Tever stays wide on the right hand side as an option, Ladero fast side on the left hand side, looking for options, looking
for the ball, trying to make things happened as the sounds looked for the opening goal, try and break the deadlock here as Cody Baker in the center of the field plays the ball out to Ladero's hugging that left touch line, ball back to Gold to Hibar combination to Ladero as he drives forward top of the box eighteen yards tries to find a combination with Jordan Morris, but it's Kiski and the Houston Dynamo come away with it and he sounds he puts some
pressure on Now they've got an extra man and find that opening goal. As Michael plays the ball to breast Smith miscontrolled goes out for a sound as throwing but sound as fans if sound as FC scores anytime after the eighteenth minute during a home match, you'll have the chance to win free lasic surgery from Sharp Vision, Modern Lasic and lens. Sign up today at sound asfc dot com slash laser focus. Do you get a couple of substitutions. We thought Freddy
Montero would come on. He did, And it's gonna be TEBZ and a Bear that come off the field and Double Air will take the second spot on the field. A Double as a lightful light for Dylan Tevers and Montera is gonna play up front as a lightful light change for a Bear. As the ball goes to Double. This first touch drives the ball across the face of goal. Double found some space in the eighteen yard bucks from the right side.
Good first touch with his first touch of the game, coming off the bench and drives it and slashes it across the goal that Jordan Morris isn't able to find that touch in the back post. It's a really good first touch by Double. The Parson job Parlo had so much pace on it. Well you gotta do is open your body up, use the pace on the board. Great first touch, does the right thing trying to go across the goalkeeper.
You're taught to do that. So if anything, you can find a back post or a player can be coming in the coming in at the back post to tap it in the rebound. On that occasion, misfires, misses, the target miss getting closer. It's going to be an interest to him because I think the sound as well get stronger and stronger create chances. It will be a matter of can you do it before the clock runs up. We're in the seventy second minute here in Houston, Texas is Dynamo nils,
Sounders nil. We took a weather delay early in the first half. Players had to go off the field for an hour or so, came back out. Houston got a red card. The sound is playing upper man now, dominating possession with seventy two percent of the ball, almost six hundred passes on the game, but no real penetration the attacking third of the field so far,
no real tests on goal for Steve Clark. As the ball goes to the right hand side, double air back to Alice roll Don Houston had been strong in the back and it's gonna be a foul and a free kick for the Sounders. Twenty five yards from gold, just right of center of the goal. There's Karraski on Ladera, who collected the ball well inside the field. Felt the pressure went down free kick sounders, I think would have been easy when the Dynamo went down to ten men to think, you know,
it's going to be a free four nil game. But teams at times you can galvinize you when you're playing with ten and I think the dynam was done a great job of restricting the Sounders space. They're allowing you to get a way of saying, look, if you're gonna be us, gonna be out wide with across us. That way, nothing's coming through us. And the sound has had a tough time of it to where it comes down to maybe
it's a free ki kre. You have Montero, you have a drop both capable and I think Freddie from this distance with Vias the way he strikes the ball, maybe a good option. Twenty five twenty years from goal's Freddie Montero goes high and wide and over the top of the goal for a Dynamo goal. Kick remains nil nil. Here in Houston, Texas, there's a sound to continue to dominate possession, but it's gonna be shots on target, shots on goal. That's gonna frustrate Brian Schmerzer. Steve it is, we're looking
out double digit shots. Steve Clarks made one save from Russneck. It was extremely comfortable save a a good hide. You know, he kind of powered it to himself and just having't created enough. I'm talking about a team that whose offense can be sold dynamic at times. And you know, yes, Raoul is missing, we know that, but in a in Nicoladero, in
Russneck, you add job Parlo into their Jordan Murrays Montero's there now. I mean, you've got quality out there playing against ten men where you should have generated more gold dangerous chances and that just hasn't happened. And that will be a big letdown. If you do all of that and Steve Clark stands on his head and has a blind up, you say zero zero, We accept it. Well, you haven't even given yourself the chance to do it. Ball to double air, back to goal, pressure from Escobar and knocks the
ball out of bounds. It's gonna be a Dynamo thrown on their left hand side, given away by double air as you got pressure from behind from Franco Escobar. As Houston Dynamo now are going to kill as many seconds and minutes as they can try and see out this game and grind out this nil nil tie will be their sixth clean sheet from six games at home. It would
be an MLS record if they can maintain it. As Kaskia cleects the ball in a sound as half of the field, no real pressure from the sounders, so it tries to find Pratt Smith in behind, well seen by Jackson. Reagan cleects the ball and his gamo plays it to double air defended well by our tour comes across. Gonna be as sounders throwing on the sounders right hand side in front of the Dynamo bench as a sounders trying to find that
breakthrough. It' ex Houston nil Sounders nil here in the seventy fifth minute. But Tevis, what do you make of his performance? Played well against the Galaxy gets to start to know what do you make of his performance? Yeah? I think he was okay. I think it was okay. I think you would have lex to see a bit more, especially with a space that was out there playing a man up. I think in the end he put in a couple of good crosses, maybe positive steps forward for him. Did
nothing wrong of that nature. But I think it's the point where when you get these chances, you only get so many. You've got to take those steps and show the coaching staff why you should always be in contention for a starting spot. Ball goes into the Ladera right corner of the box. He drives forward. No real pressure eventually comes from Hector Herrera as the ball goes back to Alex roll Dan, a little bit of pressure from Brad Smith that
passes him off. It's Ladera in the box trying to fun that slit. Ball grows neck pressure from Corey Birder tries to grab and snag at his shirt, but he wriggles free. Ball into the box, punched not very convincingly by Steve Clark. Bounces however, to Houston Dynamo and Hector Herrera. Challenged
by voldn As. He wins the ball. That gives it away quickly to our Tour and Karaskier and there's a Houston Dynamo come away with it to the right hand side to Stas who collects the ball with time and space and they're right inside, eventually closed down by Baker finds her Rara middle of the fields. Houston Dynamo now have a little bit of possession and the sound as half of the field as it goes from left their right to the center back to
Barlow, who can drive a ball. As we mentioned the first off, as he switched the point of attack from right to left to Brad Smith inside to Hector Herrera. The Sound is now chasing the ball, trying to get a ball back, playing up a man here in Houston as a score remains nil nil and its escobar comes inside to Karaskia defended by Joe Powler. Ball goes to Brad Smith on the left hand side, defended well by Alex roy Darn Bret Smith slides in and it clips off him stays in bounds. It's
the Houston Dynamo that keep with the ball and maintain possession. Now Kari Skier twenty five yards plays the ball to Corey Baird. The ball goes why George Morris closes downstairs back to Corey bed finds Krasku came up from an offside position,
but Clexiball on side. His Herrera comes into his more preferred right foot slides the ball across, gives it away to the Sounders, come away with it with Ladero chased by Herreros on a yellow card, pulls back and is that going to be a second yellow in a red The referee was looking at his shure. There it is. There's a red card. It's a second yellow for Hector Herrera and the second red card for Houston Dynamo in this game,
in the seventy eighth minute. It's a needless pullback for Hector Rrero was probably fatigue and tiredness, lost the concentration, pulled back Ladero. Easy call for the referee for the second yellow card and the Houston Dynamos second red card of the game. Sting zac quantity. It's not a play you expect from a player with La Liga experience, Mexican national team international experience. I mean, it's really really poor plays, a very dumb plays be said, because
there was not going anyway. You've got also their covering, You've got players back. The lad was in his own half and Adero is very good at many things. He's not a sprinter, so at some point the Ladero would have turned back. But Nico smart he knew was coming he bade him in and for Herrera, I think he had given the board away and he was disappointed himself and though he was chasing, and whether he forgot he's on a yellow or not on a yellow. He has just made his team's been doing
such a good job. He has just made their task that much harder. Now, playing two men down, it's tough to see any outcome back a Sounders win. But you still got gold there. You still gotta get it done. Red card right decision, gave the refinal choice. Well, these are the games, as we know. Galvanizes teams to defend their goal, defend the sixth clean sheet potentially here at Shell Energy Stadium for the Houston Dynamos.
They make a substitution defensively solidified that backline. We'll say the sabba is gonna be. That's gonna be. Ki is going to come off the field. Good performance by Karaskia, the Panamanian international sign for Houston back in twenty twenty one, played in La Liga two. Been a good add to his
squad over the last couple of years as a Sounders. Now we're going to find themselves with eleven plus minutes to find that opening goal on that win is Cassado, who's going to come on the field and try and solidify that midfield as a sounder is now playing eleven man against nine. There's Rosnek to the right hand side down the line to double are defended well by Escobar and then Smith goes short to Ladera whipped in by and it's George Moos with their header.
It was a good cross by Alex Rolder on the right hand side. Jordan Morris goes up. It looks like a clash as Jordan Morris stays on the deck but his header goes over the top. Gonna be a goal kick for the Dynamo. And Jordan has been good in these situations when it crosses have come from the right hand side there. He got a little assistance from from stairs there. Jordan Morris us stairs to climb up by heads it really well, but it's the way he fouled here, Jordan, and he really
really does hit his head on the ground. He didn't have his arms to brace himself. He got up so high. Good to see him up and walk in. But I'll be a little bit painful there for Jordan, a little bit of whiplash. It looks like as he holds it back of his neck. But the ray of greener back at home later this week when they take on Austin FC on Wednesday May seventeenth at seven thirty pm. Watch the match via the MLS Season passed on the Apple TV app and listen on nine
to fifty KGr AM or l RAY thirteen sixty am in Spanish. The Providence, Swedish prematch radio shows start at seven pm. Houston nil sounds nil here in the eighty first minute as Roslack has the ball, plays it to Double a good first touch and Escobar goes down. It was inadvertent clash of legs, Escobar making the most of it. There's gonna be a Dynamo free kick inside the eight and yard bucks. Yeah, and you'll see this more and
more as wind down into the eighty second minute here. I don't know that if Houston d anymore are chasing the game, that Escobo stays down that wrong. I'll say that no. Well, Double goes down, looks like he's gonna tweaker the ankle as he holds his knee. He looks like the medical staff for the Sounders and Houston are gonna have to come on as the players get a drink of water. But Steve, we're getting into the last ten plus minutes of this game. It's nil nil sound as of up two men
as double ed limps off, Bildera helps him off. I think it's more about getting the game going and lack of a lack of patients from Nicoladero. Get your treatment off the pitch. I think the looking at the clock, well, the last thing the Sounders want to do is waste any time here they've got. As you mentioned, Steve, playing against ten men now nine men is never easy. It's the perception from the outside is that it should be an easy win, but it's never easy. Yeah, it really isn't
because teams do lock in and they just get compact and it's hard. You know, you spoke, we spoke about a training drill attack versus defense. If you do ten of those reps, you normally come out scoring two or three and you're happy. So when teams are set and in ten on defending, it can be hard to break down. Now, playing with two men up, that's a massive advantage. The only thing hit us on Houston side
is we are winding down the minutes. We're getting towards the very end of this game, and the Sounders probably get a bit more desperate as it goes, because this is three points that's right there for the taking. It'd be a massive, massive missed opportunity it too, Sounders cannot find a way to forget the breakthrough and pick up three points well, Sounds making a couple of
substitutions. Pour rath Rock off the back of a goal against La Galaxy, scored in the goal against San Diego Loyals as well, and read Baker Whites and come on the field as we as the Sounds trying to find that opening goal. It was, but I'm more of an offensive threatened that left hand side with roth Rock and the Sounders come again. Roth Rock playing on the
left hand side. Now couldy Bakers slipping inside as the Sounder is with ladera left hand side roth Rock with the ball, the Sounders trying to find that opening It was Ja Paulo substitute off as the sound has come away with it with roth Rock top of the box to Russneck twenty five yards from goal. Sounders now trying to find that opening goal. Up two men, two red cards. Ball goes to the bat post, and that's not what the Sounders need. Goes, why did the goal over the end line for a Dynamo
goal kick? Steve's a quantity and this is where you really really have to be careful for your to sound is because yes, you're playing against nine men up a couple of players, and you want to force the issue. The clock is running, but still you have to go for the quality chances over the quantity. There's no point just dumping balls aimlessly. You gotta be strategic.
I do want to also esperiements at some point, and sends Jackson Reagan, all yam up there, but you're start now dumping balls forward, knocking it down, fighting for second balls, being a bit more direct because you've
got to try to win by any means necessary. I just cannot see a scenario where you're okay playing eighteen minutes plus, not eighty minutes plus, but sixty minutes plus with an extra man, and then you play fifteen twenty minutes plus with two extra men and you leave the game with only your point.
Saunders in possession, Dynamo half of the fielders, Ladera drives forward, Cordy Baker and support from behind the Roth Rock left hand side to Baker to Montera to roth Rock trusting all the ball away given away by the Sounders, but cleared high and long by Houston, and so they can do right now playing with nine manners. Step and Fri gets his first or his first touch of the second half. It's been as quite a game for Stephn Fries he could
probably remember. As the Sounders now continue to build Read Baker Whiting, player higher up the field now double Lair going off with an injury to Read Baker Whiting, who plays on the right hand side. Both flicks the bad poster to Baker. Whiting flicks to roll Down clear by Brad Smith, eventually clips off the heels of Alex Rolldon goes out for a goal kick for the Dynamo, and it's for the sound to say, I'm trying to think, what
else can you do? Yes, getting the ball and wide, getting crosses into it, have had the Roostnack shot from distance, maybe a bit more obviously shooting from distance there for the Sounders. But I don't think it's a bad idea. Jackson Reagan is a huge lad, huge lad. Not about it. Very good in the air. Oh Yama not a bad idea to put one of those up top, because you don't need both of them back
there at this point. If your branch Messler, so maybe you don't go to your bench, but you have the personnel out there, you just shift them around a little bit. Because's nothing wrong with Reagan knocking the ball down to him on ter or Jordan Morris, he's in and around the goal. What looks like a very traditional four four two now Jordan Morris playing alongside Freddy
Montera at front. We know George Morris has worked on his heading, but suddenly, like she said, to see some aerial threat with other Yamo or Jackson Reagans would be something that the Sounders could look at, especially as they try to float balls in and Guson Dannamo are not gonna build out too much. Two blocks of four in front of their goalkeeper as a littla Dara plays the ball square to Jackson, Regan to Rosneck top of the box twenty yards
from goal, plays the ball to Ladero across square. There's Alex Rodn right hand side, which the ball along six yard box clicks then and it's a goal for the Sounders and it's Paul roth Rock. What a contribution by the young man off the bench, off the back of a golf against the LA Galaxy. Two goals on the week for Paul roth Rock. Can that be the game winner for the Sounders? He's dynamo nil. Sounders won. Well, not the man I would have picked. The scored a goal and it
wasn't pretty when it came. But there you'll count. There you all count. And the Sounders I've been plugging away, plugging away. We've been saying it likely comes from a wide area, and that's exactly what happens. It's where the space has been. Alex Rodn does what you should, gets the board into a dangerous area. And what I love about that you have three runners right across the goalkeeper five six guys in the box. In the end, it sort of hits Rob Rock and then he reacts really really well.
They're just support the ball home sees it across the line and that's all you need. That's all you needed. Get the ball wide, crash the box. See what happens. The Sounders went about it a long way, made hard work of this, but it does look like they have just done enough.
The youngster scores back to back games one nil to the Sounders. Well for Paul roth Rock water contribution to the game, for the young man, the defiance player see Otley United went from Notre Dame to Georgetown and the young man gets on the board here for the Sounders to put the Sounders up one goal to nil. And certainly it's difficult to take for Houston playing with nine men, but the Sounders now, as Paul Rothrock enjoys the moment, it
was a massive goal. But they all count, and certainly when you look at the score sheet and the score box the next day in the newspapers, Alan Shearer used to say, it doesn't say twenty five yards five grant, says goal Shearer, and it says goal roth Rock exactly. They get any which way you can, and they all count. And it may be he's a game where he's going to take something like that, but we always felt
the space was going to be outwired. Good job at ex roll down and I just love the way the Sounders crashed the box, had many guys chasing the board being hungry. Jordan Morris was in and about the action as well, and in the end, as we said, forced the young stop and he just bunded it over the nine and that should be enough to see the Sounders through well. For Brian Schmitzo, the back of two lost in the
past week sporting Casey at home, so disappointing two one loss. Certainly the Galaxy went out with a very strong attacking eleven or starting eleven for the Sounders playing the younger guys. But Brian Schmitzer will certainly complimentary of his young players and the performance they put in and tonight it's all about doing the business. It's not about having to be fancy. You can dominate possession and this game of soccer can be very frustrating at times. The ball goes down the line
to read Baker, Whitey now opening up his legs. Mikhail goes across double team by Brad Smith and the Sounders will now take those thrones and will walk and not joggers. Josh A Tensio gets final instructions from Brian Schmitzer, comes on the field to try and solidify the midfield and see this game out.
And for Brian Schmittzer, he talked about the young boys, who talked about Cody Baker, You've got to say the young man, Cody's played a solid game on the left hand side, being good in the ball, good pensively. Yeah, yeah, that's all. He's been fantastic, actually even maybe better than good. If there was times if second off where he started to come inside and find central positions and was making the game happens, showing some confidence. Very good, very good. He's young player. The first thing
is don't make mistakes, don't mess things up. After that, can you now also make a difference, and he's doing it well. Alice Rodan goes off, Attenio comes on. It's gonna be Read Baker whitching slides across to the right back spot as Attensio. It's gonna play alongside Rosneck in the middle of the field, try and see this game out or given away back Cody Baker. But as a sound has dropped in a leader defense is gonna be six minutes. It's gonna be six minutes of added time. That's the extra
mile stoppage time is six minutes. So the sound is leading one goal to nil here in Houston, Texas at the Shell Energy Stadium as a sound of playing upper man. Two red cards for Barsi in the first half and then Hector her Rare in the second half. But here come Houston not giving up on it yet. With Read Baker waiting, chases down Cassado is it tries
to flip the ball to the back post. Cody Baker clicks the ball off his chest, has to do the safe thing as it rolls over for a corner kick as a bottle gets thrown in from the standard Just missus, Cody Baker host not done yet. Still life in Houston. One of their rare forays into the attack and is they're getting a corner kick here which will be taken by old friend Brad Smith. But it is where the sound has got to be careful because a set piece, it doesn't matter if it's nine ten
men to set piece, any team can be dangerous. Houston sending plenty of numbers forward here, sounds have to try and survive this. Brad smith left foot could be an in swing corner kick from their right hand side. Paul comes in. It's a header. It's a three header into six yard box by Bartlow, but it goes high and wide for a sound as Gold kick. But steve a chance for Houston Dynamo, and a really good one at that. It's a fantastic delivery. Rounds up of the sounds and that'some big,
big chance. He gets under it, jumps early, out, jumps his man there, just got there a little bit too earlier. If that's a little bit delayed by even half a second and has a chance to really
redirect that, that could have been one one big big chance. Ethan Barlow, the Woodenville, Washington native University of Washington Crossfire youth team player getting his breakout years, started every game so far from Houston, Let's center back, had a chance to try and get on the score sheet against his hometown club. As a Sounders now play the ball from the center to write to Rothrot
the goal scorer. Can it be the game winner because it gets tackled by McKellan the Dynamo come away with it with our tour top of the box, shifts it across from the center to write to Stas who miscontrols it. Momentarily, Jornan Morris goes across and slides and close the ball down to our tour middle of the field to Brad Smith down the line. Yaymar closes the ball down to Casado pushes him over. Nothing given by the referens a free kick.
Silly foul by Yamar on the left hand side for Dynamo has been Dynamo free kick and again another opportunity to get the ball into the box for Eastern Dynamo here approaching just two three minutes of game time left, and Yama initially does a good job. And there's honestly not too much in that there. You've seen referees let that go very often. Yeam, it doesn't do too much. But on that occasion he's penalized. And we saw on the last
set piece how dangerous to Houston Dynamo can be. So sound as you've been worn, Sounders defending a free kick on the Dynamo left hand side. We're in the ninety fourth minute, in the fourth minute of six minutes have added time here at the end of the game, the Sounders leading one goal to nil. To the Casado with his right foot, he's going to whip the ball in, goes high and wide, and what a waste by Houston Dynamo as their heads drop and it was such a waste. But for the Sounders,
they'll take it all day long. Oh, you'll take it all day along. I mean, Ben Olson cannot be what do you say as a coach. I mean if I'm his teammate, Wow, I mean you have a chance bought into the box to maybe rescue a point, and you're going do that. So the Sounds listen. We happy to see that, but wait an opportunity to say the least. But the Dynamo Steph and Fry doesn't
take any chances. Knocks the ball long and high to Jordan Morris. Challenged by Bartlow, the ball goes into Freddy Mount TERA's got Roth Rock on the left outside. Jordan Morris through the middle, tries to slide through. Steve Clark comes out, collects the ball and the Sounds now need to work their way back defending a one goal lead here in Houston, Texas. The ball goes from Bartlow long Read Baker Whiting heads the ball up in the air.
Doesn't need to do anything more than that. As it closes, the ball down Casedo gets clipped off by Read Baker Whiting which she's Nelson and Smith down the line. That's case said. He receives. The ball goes down the line defended by Yama needs to give his hands down forcing the ball over the end line. It's gonna be a goal kick for the Sounders, and as we approach the last minute, about a time and Steve difficult game all in
all, but certainly three points much you needed. I think it's three points you take and you get any which way you can. I mean, was it pretty not really? Was it maybe a little bit more nerve reckon than it should have been? Should you have created more? All those questions we can talk about. But at the end of the day, the Sounders look like they'll leave it with three points and they'll forget the weather delay and things
like that. There's been a lot of adversity here for the Sounders and they've looked like they're going to come away with three points. Yellow card for Ethan Bartlow. It was a challenge on Paul rath Rock. It's a flailing arm and certainly levels of frustration for Houston now as they argue with referee Basquez. Forget the last thirty seconds of this game. And for the Sounders it was
business tonight, get the job done, get the three points. They did that from the most unlikely of goal scorers, Paul Rothrock, and it wasn't the prettiest, but as we said, they all count and for him it could be a game winner tonight and it's the Sounders rather a free kick on their left hand side, just a couple of yards inside the Houston half of the field. Of referee looking at his watch, the Sounders need to do nothing more than just maintain some possession his final seconds see out the game.
Because he's listening. I think he's listening to maybe VR and he may be a another check. Yep, he's gonna check VR. Is gonna be an aaron elbow from Ethan Bartlow, the Woodenville, Washington native. There's a challenge in the air because he goes across to the monitor. Does the referee should this possibly be a third red card for Houston? It was? It was high and but you taught to lean with your elbow. But oh, that's that's lower than it should be. It's down low, straight into the forehead
of roth Rocket. It's intent as well? Is it the fact that roth Rock scored that goal? Is a another local kid? Shall They played against each other as youth players? Biler for Crossfire roth Rock for see how United has a nasty challenge when you look at it in slow slow motion, Steve Yeah, and officially it gets worse than the repudix because we have to analyze an assassin. He's getting across them, but he does lead with the arm
is. I can see it not being over time and and upgraded to a red card story, but I would not be surprised if we see a red card. I think he's gonna let it go. He's gonna give it and I'm okay with that. He took his time, had a look. There was a high or ball you can I'm okay with that. Well. The Sounds now try to see out this game as we or. In the ninety eighth minute after VR check, Stephen Fry takes no chances, goes along and there's the referees whistle to bring this game to an end. It was an
interesting game. Stop it in the first minute due to weather, but the Sounders maintain their focus and it's young Paul Rothrop in the eighty seventh minute that gets the Sounders win. Steve, your final thoughts, well, the sound has made hard work of what we thought, maybe after wearing a man up, would be a more routine victory. It doesn't matter. It's a massive, massive three points. Credit to branch Mets and his team because they stuck
with it. It's easy to get frustrated when you're not getting shots on target, you're not dominant in the way you should. Maybe the quality of chances you stick with it, stick with it, and then even more credit to a roth rocket come in as a young star. He's doing everything he can right now. It's a short that he should be involved with the first team.
Big smile on his face. It's a big three points. Well down sale Sounders young players stood up today and played well and certainly played their part. It was hard thought but well earned. We'll take a short rak and Jackson, Felts and Pete will be back to break it all down from Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. It finishes Dynamo nil. Sound as one.

The Sounders FC postmatch Show starts now to resnect top of the box twenty hours from Gold plays the Bowl to Ladera Squad is Alex waldn right hand side, which the below six shot Bucks clicks and and it's a goal for the sound Is and it's Paul Rothrook. What a contribution by the young man off the
bench, off the back of a golf against the LA Galaxy. Two goals on the week for Paul Rothrook. Can that be the game winner for the sound is Is Dynamo nil? Sound Is won. The legend of Paul Rothrock grows and grows more. Three games, three goals and the game winner tonight Innie Houston to hand the Dynamo their first home loss of the year. What a last few hours we have had, My goodness, what a game. Welcome to the post game show. My name is Jackson felt Sad. We're
gonna bring in the whole crew here. Pee Viewing is alongside. We were here for the for the pre match and halftime. We got our director of broadcasting, Keiley Dunning here in our produce Sir andrews Hurst and andrews One who played with Paul Rothrock. How perfect is this the legend of Paul Rothrock Pete Viewing. He scored on the Open Cup match against San Diego. He scored on the Open Cup match against LA on Wednesday, and he scores the game
winner tonight in the eighty seventh. Well, it's that's a great story. Good for the local kid, right growing up in Seattle and uh, you know, went to Notre Dame, transferred to Georgetown, scored in the final in twenty eighteen for Georgetown. And he is a hard working kid. It's been said many times. Jim McAllister runs Seattle United, Paul played there. He said, we're all going to vote for Paul Rothrock at some point. We recruited him when he was leaving Notre Dame and we had no chance because
he wanted to be in Washington, DC. Georgetown. He's not just a very very good soccer player from a great family. He is also just a really bright young man and what and he believes when he steps in the field he's going to contribute. So man, that's just it's good for him. You know, the right place, right time, And that's not easy. That could have been a handball. It wasn't right. He got his hands
out of the way and then he just poked it. He had to wear with all to poke at home, right, He had to slotted into the corner. One of the Houston players coming on to him, so yeah, if the three goals in three first team appearances, it's pretty darn good spectacular. So let's go through this, uh, and then we'll bring every in and kind of get reaction to more about the legend of Paul Rothrock. I'm positioning this has build the statue right now. But in all seriousness, what
a game this was. If you're just joining us, it's been a heck of the last couple hours. A lightning delay in the ninth minute caused an hour delay in this game. In the ninth minute, there were a couple of lightning strikes about eight miles away that forced the game into a delay. Then there was another instance of strikes that forced it into another delay. Total was an hour long. The match got he started at about six forty eight Pacific time. We just like say this, Houston sucks. I mean,
you said it in there, say it again, Houston is terrible. Yeah, So we knew that we saw the rain, and we saw we saw the rain, we saw the dark clouds, and it was kind of just the hope that it would that they would stay away. But no, there were lightning. So that was an hour long delay. At the nine minute mark, the match restarted, and twelve minutes after it restarted, Houston star
player boss he got a red card. Now he's the one that has pretty much everything that Houston's done this year, five goals, he's a signing out of the Second League second division in France and January, he's been their big star. So him getting a red card was a big deal. That forced Houston to kind of just play in their half of the field the entire rest of the game. Sounders just kept attacking and attacking, a lot of horizontal
passing. Their Sounders first shot on goal happened in the sixty ninth minute and it was a long distance from Albert Russnack. It was kind of just can we get a little bit more? And then finally there long time later in the eighty seventh minute and Alex rolled on. I should mention the Sounders actually went up two men in the seventy eighth minute, Hector Herrera did a dumb
foul for his second yellow. Seattle goes up two men in the seventy eighth minute, and then finally, finally, playing eleven on nine, Seattle gets an Alex rolled on cross, a Paul Rothrock goal and they close it out a one nothing win over Houston Sounder's first place in the Western Conference with the three points, and all is well with the world. You know, Pete,
let's just we talked about Paul Rothrock. Let's just step back here and talk about what this win means for Brian Spencer and company after two straight losses Open Cup and then Kansas City. You know, this seems like a big win for Brian Spencer's side in the morale of that club, no question. It reminds me of the win at Austin a couple of years ago. Ruy Dia subs in about thirty minutes to go, smashes the goal from forty yards
out. They steal a win with a bunch of really young players, some of these young players that are now getting a little bit more time under their belt. But they went down, got to win. It was almost identical, and it was during a lot of fixture conjection congestion where too many games in a short amount of time and they rolled the dice. This one was different though, because it was nine against eleven, right, and you really you have to find a way, you have to find a way to win,
and they did that today. But it reminds me that game at Austin where they went down and weathered a bunch of storms, played a bunch of young guys. They didn't do that this time. But what I am impressed with when I look at this and you go through the lineup, you know, Josh and Tensio comes in, Double Air comes in, Red Baker, Whiting comes in. Those are all homegrown guys. Tebez As a homegrown guy, as Hawaii kid, Morris homegrown, Cody Baker homegrown as well. I
mean, it's really impressive. I mean, if you're if you're in the MLS, you're gonna look around and then you also say it's local kids. It's Emerald City, right, It's it's east Side FC with Morris. Uh, it's Seattle United with Reagan. I mean, it really is a great win for the team. The fact that they've founded and Paul Rothrock exactly, yeah, Paul Rothrock Seattle United as well, and then Sounder Academy, and
so it's just great. It's a it's a great win. They've figured out how to get it done, um and the and that's gonna be a pretty darn happy locker room. Knowing they got to turn around and play. On Wednesday, we why already sent a tweet to my Tottenham Hotspur and I said, I said, you guys need to come look at this Paul Rothrock kid, because yeah, he's special. But listen, obviously the Toyota is a man in match tonight is Paul Rothrock. Uh, your local Toyota dealers are
proud to present Tonight's man of the match. I mentioned Seattle United. There are broadcast producer Tonight andrews Hers played on Seattle United with Paul Rothrock. I mean you you played with him, dude, I mean, what can you say about his game and why it's you know, successfully translating to MLS. Oh, it's just so great to see him having success this level, to be honest, but no, he's a stud. He always came up in the kind of the clutch moments for us before he went to Sounders Academy.
So I'm just so happy for him. And he could always do what the team asked him to do, whether it was defending, getting back on a corner, or you know, putting a ball into the box and creating opportunities. And in this case it was scoring a goal and the Sounders really needed it so so happy for him, right, I mean, in the right place at the right time, big big there for Paul Rothrock. And obviously that goal that you heard there, We're gonna play it a few times tonight.
It is our Emerald Queen Casino Play of the Match, and you're gonna hear it more because the play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. It's a one nothing Sounders win down there in Houston against the Dynamo. What a win. And Delta Airlines is probably doing one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players these this
season through Ray Foundations. One Mile, one Ball program will continue on the postgame show Pete Fewing, Jackson felts, Keiley Dunning andrews Hurst celebrating a Sounders win. fact that this is a win. We talked the last segment that about about how big it is the fact that coming off of an Open Cup loss and the loss of Kansas City, the surprising and disappointing loss that was last Sunday, this three points is mass and obviously it keeps your first place in the
Western Conference. But and there's a big butt. It's the fact that this team played, what do we got about seventy minutes a man up at least a man up, and then in the seventy eighth minute they went two men up and for a lot of that before Paul rothrock school in the eighty seventh minute, I mean, right there doing the math, that's sixty six minutes the Sounders played at least one man up and we had a one shot on
goal. There is a bit of me that is also slightly concerned of why couldn't we do more, Why couldn't we get more on goal and test Steve Clark more when we did have such an advantage. I think there'll be some video that they will show of passes that where went backwards instead of going forwards that they could have broke them down. It slipped balls through and been a
little bit more goal dangerous. I think with a quick turnaround playing Wednesday back at home, I think they're gonna have to sort of say, okay, take the win and move from it, but they'll be brief about it. More important after losing two games in a row, especially the Kansas City loss, which was a very difficult loss to swallow, right, I think they're gonna say, great win, here's what we can do better, Let's get after Austin. Here's the deal. We are in first place with twenty three
points. We've played twelve games. LA's in second place with twenty one points. They've played ten, so we are not out of the woods. And then you've got Saint Louis nineteen points and eleven games. Dallas and San Jose both have eighteen points and eleven games, so we have twelve games under our belt. We've got a couple of games in hand, we've played a couple more games and everybody else. So they've got to really focus about getting forward.
But they could have been a little more goal dangerous, and they what got them the goal. What got them the goal was getting the ball through the box. And then making sure they had numbers through the box. At the end of the day, a road result is a road result. Absolutely. I don't remember if Danny Jackson said this on air or off air, but talking about the goal, he was like, you know, in the box score, it doesn't tell you if it's a twenty five yards screamer.
Yeah, all it says is goal. Yeah, so we win, they lose, we get three points, they don't. Absolutely, no, no question. I mean that you're Brian and the staff and the and players are always going to figure out how do they do it a little bit better? But Keiley, your spot on the fact is they got a at a place that hasn't given up a goal yet, that hasn't lost at home. And it was a famous Alan Sheer quote. I think that they were talking about, Yeah, no, it's is it yeaah? It's I love their calling
that. But honestly, any day you can sing jingle bells would be great, you know. So um, and we talked about how Houston hasn't lost at home this year at all, so it's not like this was going to be an easy result going into it. And on top of that, I loved how um you know Steve and Danny pointed out that sometimes when you go down, when the other team goes down a man, it can be really hard to break them down, and especially in this instance, Houston was just
playing for the draw from the minute that that happened. So it's I it can become very very tough to create really good chances and you know, all you need one and you're gonna probably come out with the victory. So uh, you know, three points to three points and that's what you go for at this point. That is a good point there, And that was kind of the one that I was. I was, you know, wondering about when we talk about, you know, why could they not get more?
Houston was just so compact. It almost reminded me of Columbus a few years ago when the Sounders played a man up for basically eighty minutes and Greg Burhalter squad just basically consolidated down into into two blocks of four and they played a four four one and said good luck getting past us, and the game ended I think zero zero for for seventy minutes. This game reminded me of that, but it just took one moment of brilliance a great cost from Alex Roldan
and Paul Rothrock at the back post to put it in. So at the end of the day, jingle bells is gonna be sung and they'll be bashing those lockers and and you know, for for for for for BOSSI who gotta even read, and then for Hector Harrere who got the other red. Uh. Yeah, they should. They should be feeling batter right now because those are Houston's two top stars there. That's their captain and that's the leading goal scorer. Both of them got red cards and both of them will also be
missing their next match. I mean, they let down their team hardcore today and the Sounders took advantage of it and got the win and got three points. I know we're running a little bit tie here, so let's take one more break. We'll come back and talk about what's next for the Sounders. It's a busy, busy next seven days ahead. So two matches in the next seven days, one at home, one on the road. Let's kind of go around the table here and Pete, I'll start with you on this busy week for the Sounders coming off of a win, though, they've got to be feeling pretty good getting back to trade practice and starfire this starting this week. Yeah, they'll want to
get home. I'm sure they're coming home tonight, but they're facing an Austin team that had a very very good last year. Last year they're two five and four there. One of their assistants is Terry Boss, who's a former Seattle Sounder and was at Oregon State for a long time and chat with Terry about a week ago. Josh Wolf's a good coach, but they're under pressure.
They are under pressure because of the success they had last year. So these desperate teams that come in look to flip their season on the Seattle Sounders bill. So the team will not look past Austin. Vancouver's three, three and five. They're not gonna look past Vancouver either. But it's an important rest of this upcoming week for the Seattle Sounders, so they gotta get back,
gotta get ready. They have to love that they subbed in five different guys, right, that's a really good thing for this club to get that much confidence. So they got a little bit of momentum going. I'm not surprised by the way that Brian Schmittzer put Paul Rothwick on the field. It's good coaching, right, It's good coaching because the kid did the job against La and he's given him a chance to keep it going. Now all of a sudden, he's in the mix. Isn't he on a ten day contract?
He and the short term agreement or short term agreement. But you know both of them, right Baker, the other one they left back, So it'll be in you wonder if, if you are if those short term agreements could change the first team contracts. Well, you know, that's how it works. That's how it works in the NFL, that's how it works in Major League Baseball. You gotta hit at the right time, you know, whatever it is. Momentum is very important in professional sports, so big week
ahead. They got to get back after it. Yep. Taking advantage of your chances is the key in sports. In just the second minute, thank you will thank you baby Bruin really appreciate that. And then just um, if you are able to get to the stadium a little bit early, we are honoring former Tech manager Dave Wallingford on the field. What are you Wallingford? He is one of my favorite people in the entire world. He is the reason why Soundridge Broadcast has been where it's at since the beginning. We
will be doing a very quick but nice little thank you for him. So if you're able to get there early, please do the man. He's the man, I didn't know. That's great. That what he's getting that and what do I mean? Yea, behind the scenes what he's been fantastic for god how many years, like almost the entire it's the beginning. Is he retiring right, yeah? Um, he decided not to take on the Apple broadcast. So now he does crack in and basically every other sport in Seattle
he's working on. He does all the rain games now too. Yeah, he retired with the Sounders, but we will be giving him a deserved, well deserved thank you. That's awesome. So yeah, I show up early and give him a well deserved honor there before the game against Austin. But yeah, busy, busy week ahead Austin and then in Vancouver on the weekend. I think we'll be there in Vancouver, So that'll be fun to be up there at BC Place. But we'll talk to you on Wednesday and at
least Sounders Weekly is going to be on Tuesday. This week. Cracking played Monday, so Sounders Weekly Tuesday game on Wednesday. Busy week. It's a it's a good time. They're they're racing the World Cup flag on the space needle on Thursday at three o'clock. Yeah, exactly, and the new logo.
I believe the new the new Seattle World Cup don't break anything. Jackson M. Yeah, I believe the new logo for the for the World Cup in Seattle's gonna be coming out on Wednesday and they'll raise that on Thursday. So that's really cool. Peter Telmazella right, was Sounder owner and Michelle Leka
is there communications director. And now how about that.
