Welcome to the Sounders FC post match show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC post Match Show starts now. Well, it's a disappointing and frustrating night for your Seattle Sounders just north of the border in Vancouver, BC. The final is a two nothing loss to the white Caps. Goals by VT, and then Ryan Gould finishes past Stephen Fry in the fiftieth minute. I believe
that was maybe officially called an own goal. We're here for the postmatch show. Jackson Felts, Michelle Blodca anders first, Keiely Dunning. As we react with that disappointment and frustration to this match, I think we're in this. In the next segment of the post match show, we're gonna hear some comments from Steve Zakowani during the game who said it, I think you can just nail hit the nail on the head about five different times over the last twenty
minutes in what this match was. But as we open this up and we'll kind of go around the horn, you know, and all started off and Michelle'll throw it over to you that there's there's no lipstick to put on that pig. You know, that was a very bad performance. And I think it's characterized by I think, you know Steve's comment, um that when they went down to nothing, you just didn't see any belief that they could even get it back to two two um and I and I tweeted this quote out,
and I think it's so true. You can accept the loss, but sometimes it's more about the way you lose. The Sounders played the way they looked in this too nothing loss, Um was very disappointing, Michelle, very very disappointing. Well, And I think that's what head coach Brian Schmitzer is probably going to take away the most. It's one thing if you're outplayed. It's one thing if the other team is the better team. But that was not the case tonight. And it really makes you wonder, like, what
what is the situation right now with with the Sounders? Are are Are they just struggling to click because we're missing a few key people. Are they tired because of all the extra work that they did at the beginning of the season and where we're at now or is it mental? I wonder where if it's the confidence, if this at this point they're just hitting. They just you could just see it the body language after they went down to nothing. I
was I was optimistic. At the start of the second half. There seemed to be a flash. They seem to try and find that next step yep, and then and and that's the bright spot in this I think we can take away is that, yes, the young kids got some opportunities, they got some minutes, but it was just after going down after that second goal
Keiley, it just the body language. For me, it kind of feels like, do you remember Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football and every time something goes wrong, it feels like the Sounders are Charlie Brown just missing the football. Yeah, Blue, They just they're not rebounding from when some when when when like the first thing goes wrong, you can see the body language.
It just feels mental. Yeah, I think it's tough. M I want to echo kind of a lot of what Steve was talking about, and like it's it's fine when you kind of go into these away matches and you play like the Sounders were used to seeing the Sounders play, where you dominate the game, have more chances and then maybe the team nicks one in the end or the goalkeeper makes a couple great saves. But what's been really frustrating to watch and listen to is that we are we haven't deserved to win these
any of these pasts. Like five games that we've played, we've been kind of played out of the park here and with Vancouver, a team that you know, frankly is pretty below average, and their record indicates that when they're doing olays with all of their passes and all of their fans are olaying every pass they do, and just you know, it's it's that is not something you want to hear as a Sounders fan. And it did not feel like
a rivalry match tonight. To me. That's a good point. Yeah, because I think that's a great point because after the Laws against Portland a month and a half ago, we heard the comment from Bryan Spencer that this didn't feel like a rivalry game when the Sounders you know, lost four to one down there, and after hearing that comment, it was it kind of it irked me a lot, and you would have thought, Okay, things will change, Messaging will be given and listen Seattle versus Vancouver is not the level
of Seattle Portland. I think that everybody can understand that. But nonetheless, this is still a rivalry. It still dates back to the seventies, it's still part of the Cascadia Cup, and it still needs to be treated like a Darby and and I think that's the other part of it, is kind of going back to it, you know, going down to nothing and even just the body language. Michelle, you hit on that, and I think you nailed it right there. But body language like like that in any game
where you're down to nothing is disappointing. But to Ander's point right there, and I think he's dead on body language like that, when you go down to nothing in a rivalry match in the home of your opponent is even more disappointing for me. I hate that I'm about to say this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. When we came into this season, I remember first
match of the season Colorado, they played fantastic and Jackson. I remember you and I were talking on that postmatch show and we were saying, this group is capable of something special. They're built to win. Right now, we don't know how much longer we have Freddy Montero, Nicholas Ladero, Raoul Ruidiaz, some of these veteran players, even Stephan Fry. I mean, I think we've still got plenty more time with him, But I mean, these
these players have been around for a while. They want to win now, and we're seeing the next wave come through of these young guys who are hungry and eager and ready. And we really said at the beginning of the year like this could be the special perfect combination, very similar that special perfect combination we saw at the end of twenty sixteen. And I just there were moments tonight where I was like, shoot, did the moment pass? Where I
was like, did we get too excited again? I hate that I'm saying this, but it makes you wonder when you see I mean, this is a physical game. This is a hard game, on your body, on your mind, all the things, and it is a team game. But it just makes you kind of kind of wonder where we're at. We need
a spark. Yeah, it kind of reminds me we had that really rough start in twenty eighteen, just terrible start of the season, and then we got that spark when we signed Rao Rui Diaz that was the spark that turned that season completely around. Yes, we had a disappointing playoff loss to Portland, but then twenty nineteen we win Emo's Cup. YadA, YadA, rest is history. We need a spark like that so and it could be something
we don't need to It doesn't need to be a signing. Just someone on the squad just needs to one little spark, and I think they can turn it around, because, like you said, this team is built to win now. They really are. I'm still I'm a believer. I want them to be believers. This team is built win now. But unfortunately they're just not putting it together. It's a two nothing lost tonight against the Vancouver white Caps where the club just simply do not look good at almost any point in
this game, I'll tell you. Unfortunately, you know, we always have our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match. There's honestly nothing, I'm sorry to say we Stephan Fry had a save. Uh and that's the only thing I checked marked. Uh? What about what about come on? Yamar's header in the fourth minute wide right? But he was in good position. Minute Let's see Jordan Morris he had he was in position in the forty first minute, but it was a block shot. I know I'm pulling, I know,
I know I'm trying Jackson. There's honestly, there's the blatant truth is that we just we don't have that. So I'll tell you that the play of the match each week is presented by Emerald Queen because he know the betting capital of the Northwest. I'm just sorry we don't have one tonight, but
the Sounder is falling in Vancouver by a score of two. Nothing. Well, Delta Delta, let me just restart that Delta Airlines is proud to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through Ray Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. We'll come back more on the postmatch show here what I thought was a perfect comment from Steve Zakawane and continue and look ahead to what's ahead for the Sounders, which is New York coming up
at home a week from tonight. More next on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. AM, you're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back to the postmatch show. You're Seattle Sounders falling tonight in Vancouver to the Whitecaps by a score of two nothing. It was not a good showing by the Rave Green up there at BC Place in Vancouver.
But we do have things to look ahead too. Still in the post game show, we'll look ahead to next week's home match against the New York
Red Walls. Also, I should mention you know we're two weeks away from this big doublehead or the Sounders are gonna be hosting the Portland Timbers as these are both by the way at Emerald Queen Casino Pitch a loomin fee Sounders hosting the Portland Timbers at one thirty on June third, and then just a few hours later at five pm ol Raine hosts the Portland Thorns in NWSL action.

You know, we've kind of went through the frustrations and then disappointment there in the opening segment.
I want to go back and play some comments from Steve Zakawane in the eighty ninth minute, and I think these comments very accurately sum up the state of what we are watching right now with the Seattle Sounders. Let's roll it as a sound of team. At some point, you expect to bring back Christian Road, Don Raoul Louis Diaz. Yes, you'll be a different team, but still way too much quality and depth in this group to have the run of results they've had. And it's also not just the result, it's the
performance. The performance level has dropped significantly to the start of the season. It's not one player or two players, it's multiple players. You have a level on the field. If two or three off, you can still win. When it's five, six, seven, eight, not at the best, it becomes very hard in MLS to not only win, to let alone get a draw. And that's what we're seeing, lady. Too many guys having knights off at the same time. And that's how in the team right
now. And I think Steve Zachowani is so correct on that that he said they're late in that match. The two nothing lost to Vancouver, which is that yes, missing role, yes, missing Christian rolled on. But me Keely and I know you have a bunch of stats too. There is so much quality, there's so much talent on this field that lose seeing this match to nothing is inexcusable considering the talent that's out there on the field. For
the Sounders. Yeah, um, sometimes the numbers lie. Not tonight unfortunately, right, go for it. Um expected goals Vancouver about two. We are at point five shots Vancouver seventeen Our shots eight shots on target five for Vancouver one first Sounders and then Brian Schmitzer's favorite statistic, duels total duels percentage one Vancouver fifty five percent, Sounders forty five percent. I mean that's yeah. I mean, Michelle, that's that's really rough. Yeah, I'm not
at the end of the day. I mean, duels one is one of those stats that I'm actually surprised. I'm honestly surprised that it's forty five percent because because the reality is Vancouver had control of the last seventy minutes of this. Yes, yes, yes, okay, so all of this is very bad. This is very bad. I was very negative in the first block, but during the commercial break I told myself I was going to be a
little bit more positive, so to counter those ugly stats. As we kind of turn the page on tonight, I would like to point out that the Sounders are still in second place in the Western Conference. It is only May, and bright side, we did get to see a lot of young players get minutes under their belt in the second half, which is only going to help them in the long run over the course of the next several months, as hopefully the Sounders go on to make a playoff run. Jackson, you
have a ted Lasso reference you wanted to make. Oh yeah, that's true. I mean, hey, it's funny you brought it, and we're all up to date. On the show. And this isn't a true spoiler if you haven't seen season three yet. So if you if you don't even worry about it, but you know you were talking, don't share the whole storyline. But it's okay, you gave a warning. It's fine. Season three
spoiler or anything. But Keil you mentioned in the last segment about needing a spark, and it reminded me of of the episode of the season of Ted Lasso where Ted takes them to the underground sewer in London, and it just kind of it's this team bonding experience. And I don't know, Andrews, you played, you played soccer here locally for a long time. You think that we can get Brian Spencer to take him on the underground tour? I mean you you you ever played for a coach that just takes you on a
field trip to get some team morale up. I mean those kind of experiences with your teammates outside of training, outside of the kind of routine everyday stuff is really really important for kind of a bonding experience for the group. And it seems like there's kind of a mix of personalities in this team. There's a really kind of young core with you know, Red Baker, Whiting, josh A Tensio, even Danny Lava when he's healthy, you know, and
then the youngsters that have been playing and coming up recently. And then there's kind of the veterans who have been here for three four years, the Raouls, the Nicos, the Joe Palos. Even though he isn't really the longest tenured sounder, he's definitely one of the more experienced ones in the group. So there's definitely needs to be a little bit of a coming to Jesus moment, as a lot of people like to say, but no, I think um a refresh of some kind, whether um Keiley mentioned it in the first
segment, maybe that could be a signing coming. But they definitely need to change something up in terms of like what's going on in between the you know, the personalities in this group. I think I saw I saw the team starry quickly. I saw the team out at training on what that'd been, that would have been on Wednesday, Thursday, Thursday, after the Austin loss, And as I pulled into Star Fire, I saw the team taking a long walk around the entire Star Fire campus and it was just their regend day
and they were walking a long walk around the grounds together. I'm like, that's that's pretty cool kind of coming together. It's sort of a thing, and you know, sort of things like that. If if you can do something that resparks this team and allows them to reignite this fire that was so
prevalent at the start of the season, that would be fantastic. What that spark is, whether it's a trip to the sewers of Seattle or the underground tour in Pioneer Square, I don't know what it is, but they certainly need this right now. You know. What I would like to see too, And this is something like the Seattle Mariners do quite often, is bring back some some former players. We're in a community what is so enriched with
Sounders history. You know, we've been around since nineteen seventy four, I mean, Danny Jackson, Steve Zakawane like, well, yes, the list goes on and on. And we were talking earlier about how, you know, this didn't feel like a rivalry, and we said the same thing. After Portland, we've got a lot of yes, while we have the most
homegrown players on the roster, which is wonderful. There are a lot of players that are not from here that maybe are newer to Seattle and the Seattle culture in terms of the Sounders, and so I wonder if that's something that Brian Schmutzer is thinking about, that maybe it's time that someone comes back. And when I referenced the Mariners, I'm thinking of like the Edgar Martinez is the Ken Griffey jew years, those those legends who've been there through the good
times. And maybe it's like a Chad Marshall or or you know someone, you know, what's what's I know Clint has been supporting Charlotte, but boy, oh we need to take that up with Clint. Come on, come on, Clint, you're a Saunders fan. But yes, I think I think almost like yes, Field Trip, go to the Underground. If you haven't done it, it's really fun. I personally recommend the Haunted version.
Um version. Who doesn't who doesn't love ghost stories? But um, I think also I just a pep talk from you know, just sharing the history of this club. Might I love? That might do some good. I think that's a fantastic idea. Um Let's let's let's throw a little bit at Brian Spencer next time we talked to him. That's a brilliant idea there from Michelle. Michelle loved Kikili Dunning Anders. First, my name is Jackson Felts will continue on the postmatch show. But it's time to look ahead. Yes,
it's a two nothing lost of Vancouver. Time to look ahead to this next opponent for the Sounders and what's going and forward with this team. We'll take a look at that coming up next on the post match So Sports Radio at nine fifty KJR. AM, you're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back to the post match. So you're Seattle Sounders falling tonight in Vancouver to the White House by a score
of two nothing. We've lamented, we've discussed, we were, you know, our frustrations and disappointment. But it's time to now move on to the Seattle Sounders because they have a match coming up a week from tonight back at Loumin Field. They're gonna be hosting the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, that's May twenty seventh. It's gonna be a seven o'clock Providence, Swedish prematch show. Seven thirty kickoff from Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at lumin Field. You
can get your tickets today by visiting Sounders FC dot com slash tickets. Watch the mass via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV app. Also listen in Spanish language on Lay thirteen sixty and Michelle, you know it's interesting going into this game. We talked about the pressure and you mentioned pressure being on Vancouver two straight losses coming home. Now for the situation, I mean the Sounders have
been poor recently against teams who are on bad stretches. I mean Portland was OH four and two before beating Seattle, Kansas City O seven and three, before beating Seattle, Austin O four and four before beating Seattle. Vancouver and this one, as we mentioned, two straight losses coming home and then beat Seattle. Now completely flipped Sounders now two straight losses coming home and the New York Red Bulls coming off of a win tonight. So would think that the
more pressures on Seattle, but hopefully they can flip the script. Absolutely, I think the pressure completely is on Seattle. But I think while it's pressure, I think it's also an opportunity. The Sounders come home they play, they have, first of all, a week off, and I think Stephen Danny were talking about it at the end of the broadcast. Schmitzer has got to probably give him a couple of days. Go blow off some steam, come back, be ready to work. Yes, go on the Haunted Seattle
Underground Tour. Some team Bondy. Call up some old players called Chad Marshall, call Kasey Keller, call Marcus Hannaman, let's go talk about the old days. And then I think it's not just next week's match against against New York, but they have the opportunity. They have three home matches in a week. They go New York, San Jose and then Portland. If they get nine points out of those three matches at home, we've got nothing more
to talk about about this stretch that we went through. I think speaking of Horner players, guys, make sure to tune into the broadcast on radio next week on Saturday. We will have Marcus Hannaman and Brad Evans. But oh, maybe they can get the players a little pregame. They will both be on History, they will both be on pre happn Post, Steven Danny obviously in match and remember on Apple TV. You can switch to the local radio
call, so always do that guys. If you're watching on Apple TV, on your TV bottom right corner, there's options for different ways to listen. Select the home radio option you'll be able to listen to Danny and Steve call and meanwhile watch on Apple TV. Well he synct sounds great. All right, Well we'll talk to you at next Saturday Unders New York Red Bulls seven o'clock pregame, seven thirty kickoff from Emeral Queen Casino, pitch at lumin Field.
Hopefully the Sounders can get back on track in that one. Want to thank everybody tonight. A great call tonight from Danny Jackson, Steve Zakawani, Keiley Dunning, our broadcast director, keeping everything on the rails, Michelle looka Michelle. Great to have you in studio. Thanks again, Thank you so much. It's been fun to be here with you. Just wish we had a little bit better of a game to talk about. But next time, next week, yes, let's please, next week. Please next week and
Anders first running the board. Great job from him tonight, Thank you all for tuning in. Sorry it could not have been a brighter result, but hopefully we've been able to help you kind of work through the frustration and disappointment from this two nothing loss in Vancouver. So that'll do it for the broadcast tonight. Thank you so much for listening. CBS Sports Radio coming up next.
