Well you never sounded so good.

Welcome to the Sounders FC pre Match Show presented by Providence Swedish. Tonight, your Seattle Sounders FC faced Colorado Refids Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Michelobultra ninety five calories and two point six grams of cards. It's only worth it if you enjoy it. The Provident Swedish pre man show starts now.

Speaker 1

Well back to back wins and your Seattle Sounders are now third place in the Western Conference. Busy busy week here it just continues tonight as the Rave Green find themselves down in Commerce City, Colorado to face the Rapids for this third game in the last eight days. So welcome into the Sounders FC pre Match Show presented by Providence Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson

felt here alongside Chance Fry and James Riley. We're breaking this down for the next half hour, and then it'll be Danny Jackson and Steve Zachwani calling Sounders Versus Rapids and Sounder fans even the greatest athletes make sure to take the time to catch up with their friends over a michelob Ultra because they know that the joy is the whole game, not the end game. Mikelobe Ultra. It's only worth it if you enjoy it. Gentlemen, great to

be in with you tonight. As we always do, we kind of quickly take the look back, and it's been a pretty darn good week so far. Back to back shutouts, one nothing over Houston and then chance the three nothing win up in Vancouver on Wednesday. It was great to be up there and take the broadcast up the BC Place and we all watched just a fantastic win for the Sounders there on Wednesday.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it was really great to see them play and without much atmosphere apparently. I don't know what the exact crowd number was, but it was very quiet. And for the guys, I mean, sometimes you need even the away crowd to get you going, but they didn't need that and they handily beat them three zero, no problem.

Speaker 5

Absolutely, go into a rivalry game midweek is kind of odd with the scheduling, but they dealt with it and got a three great points away at a rival you know, a venue so it was a great win for the Sounders.

Speaker 1

It certainly was. This is going to be a game tonight for the Sounders where right now you're at third place in the Western Conference. Is a chance to you know, theoretically move up and get a shot at the two seed. The question now for the Sounders, now that they've locked up a playoff spot is you know, the one seed is out of the question. LA Galaxy have that wrapped up. But la FC seem to have the route to the

two seed. They're up on points, they have a game in hand, Their last three games are against, to be honest, poor opponents, So really it kind of comes down for the Sounders. All right, three, four, five, you know where does Seattle end up? But I guess even six because Colorado is sixth. Right now, where does Seattle end up in that group of four? And we will certainly know a lot more after tonight when we only have decision day left for MLS, that being in two weeks where

the Sounders host the Timbers. As we preview this game, I think the first thing to get to, of course, is what Brian Schenzer is doing tonight. He stayed pretty much consistent from last Saturday against Houston to Wednesday in Vancouver. Only one change that was Georgie for Pedro dal Levega. So Chance Fry, as we look at what Brian Spenser is doing with his Delta starting eleven tonight, how much change is there from Wednesday?

Speaker 4

Well, there what he talked about today. Well, the change in what the way they're going to play is that it's going to be a hard first twenty minutes. They're gonna have to absorb a lot of pressure. But with the lineup, I mean, yeah, well the the lineup from the Wednesday game, what was that?

Speaker 1

Yeah, there's only there's only one change, one change from from Wednesday.

Speaker 6

Yeah.

Speaker 4

I think that day la Vega is definitely going to be ready to play. It's going to be a different maybe atmosphere for him. I'm not sure how much he's ever played in in altitude, but uh, he is on the cusp of playing great all the time. I have a I'm a big believer in him. I think that he's a great player. He hasn't really done exactly what people kind of want him to do or think he can do, but I think that he's right on the cusp of it, and I think he's gonna be important player for us in the future.

Speaker 1

I definitely want to spend some time talking about Pedro. But that Delta starting eleven for Brian Schmitzer has Stephen frying Goal knew who your left back, Christian rolled on. Sorry, Alex Roldan, you're right back, Jackson Reagan, Yemar Gomez Androti the center backs, of course, it is Obed Vargas Christian rolled on. In the holding midfield, you have Paul Rothrock on the right, Albert in the middle, Jordan up top, and then that one change, only one change, being Pedro

back in for Georgie. So it is the same lineup as one week ago. And to continue with that kind of point, James, the element of consistency, It's great to have this consistency in there. It is asking a lot of these guys for basically ten of your guys, third game in eight days. You know, yes, you're off for two weeks, but it is a lot to ask at altitude for these guys to come out and play another long stretch to try to get you know, hopefully three points for the Sounders tonight.

Speaker 7

Without a doubt.

Speaker 5

But when you're on a roll, you want to ride it, and I'm sure they're doing it very strategically right and noting kind of the load that certain players have. So for me, they'll they'll go in and they'll have a result oriented mindset, which means that altitude. You don't have to go press for ninety minutes. You want to get your second win as quickly as possible, as Chance alluded to, and as coach Smetch alluded to, that first twenty minutes

is critical. Then you settle into the game. Then you can set your lineup confrontation wherever it needs to be so that you can defend well and the goal is to get a result, so a draw or when on the road. And I think it's a very experienced lineup. We talk about the day la Vega for you know, the substitution. He just brings experience and then the young player comes in and brings unbelievable dynastas just a dynamic play to his game. So it will be very awesome

to see. But again being from Colorado played on that field before, it will be a fast, fast field. So in the Mountain Dew it will just be very quick and so you know, look for players to get into the game as quickly as possible, but it will be a very very fast.

Speaker 1

Pay certainly will chance. One of the players I want to talk about is Christian role Don because I feel like, you know, maybe this is this is a bold take. I don't think it's very bold at all. I think we're seeing Christian role Don in his best position right now and maybe playing You know, we've seen Christian at

about six different spots in his career. Of course, I think where at the level he's playing at right now, specifically in this spot, is the best position we've seen him in because right now we are seeing him work with Obed Vargas, and maybe this doesn't work necessarily as well when jul Polo gets back in and there is good news on that, by the way, he was questionable with a calf injury. He is on the bench today

for your Sounders. So maybe when JP gets back in, if he gets back in the starting lineup, Christian can't play the same. But the way he's playing right now alongside Obed Vargas, that duo and especially Christian such a high level right now, and this team certainly wouldn't be getting the results they are without c R seven playing the way he is.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I've said for a long long time that the second that Brian writes down on the lineup sheet after Stephen Fry is Christian rolled down. He has been fantastic for us over the years, and it's amazing how he can play in multiple positions, not only through the year, but sometimes in a single game. He is a very

very very good player. But having the consistency in one position, I don't care who it is, it definitely can help you be that much sharper, that much more sort of confident there's other players around that know what you're gonna do and and things like that. Yeah.

Speaker 5

Absolutely, I mean CR seven has been fantastic, one of my favorite players, and I completely agree with Chance. I mean definitely the second person you ran the lineup. But I think what makes him great at multiple positions, you know Allah Brad Evans, who used to do the same exact thing, is he makes others around him better. So whether he's on the right side in the midfield, central midfield,

you want him in the starting lineup. And I think that's what you know him being a bit you know older than oh bid, he makes others around him better, right, And so for me, he can do it in central, late or out wide, but you want him on the field. But I think he's obviously in a very good rhythm, and I think the team's in a good rhythm, and so you want to ride that as long as possible.

Speaker 1

Let's talk about Pedro del Vega, because I think the thought for Pedro is we saw him play sixty minutes against Houston, came off the field. I don't think we saw the best Pedro in that sixty came off the bench against Vancouver, And I think the question and I want to kind of go around the room here where we're including our producer today, andrews Hurst in this conversation, because we were having it off the air right before the pre match show started. So let's go around the room.

And I think the question is how can Pedro de la Vega integrate quickly and continue to integrate it because it feels like I thought about this driving in. It feels like we're watching a loading bar or a buffering bar for a video and we've just seen this loading bar with Pedro del Levega for this whole season and he's gotten healthy, and it felt like, all right, that's a big chunk of the loading bar that just went.

But now it feels that that buffering isn't it just it's almost stalled, and I need to see the buffering bar continue to go to the end. Here. We need to see the ready done Pedro de la Vega that all that he can be. But chance James Anders, it just doesn't feel like that that buffering is happening as quickly as we need it to.

Speaker 4

Yeah, because it's not only your physical presence, but mentally getting into the game, your confidence, getting the consistency, knowing how long you're going to play, and things like that. He doesn't seem like he knows exactly how long he's going to be out there, and he's always looking over his shoulder, probably to be subbed, and that that is not a way to have a player of his ability or his his The way he plays is attacking. He needs to play free and not worry about losing the

ball and just go up people. He's going to lose the ball, but let him go because he does have the ability. I think he is different from any player that we have on the on the roster, and if we can tap into his skill set, I think that the Sounders are going to be great.

Speaker 5

Certainly an important player, and I always tell my young player, you have to earn the trust and respect of your coaching staff and your teammates by the way you prepare, compete, and recover. So even those sixty minutes may be not what we necessarily want him, getting through a competitive sixty minutes against a good Houston team is very good. So does stat consistently good minutes, whether it's starting or coming

off the bench. You're building that trust and respect for the coaching staff and your teammates, but you're also building that confidence for yourself. And it's a confidence based game, especially as we get down to crunch time. So to get these competitive minutes to start away on the road against a good Colorado team, like I said, will be a very fast paced game, will be another test for him.

And then again it's one day at a time. So I think even though they might not be the minutes that we think that he could be getting, they're good competitive minutes that builds his confidence and the confidence of the people around him. Yeah, I'm going to kind of I go the same sentiments here that you guys did.

I think it's a big mental thing with him for the first couple games where he was returning from his injury, it looks like, okay, we just want to make sure he gets to the game physically, and it seems like he's kind of hit that plateau now or he can do that more often. But I want to see him take more risks. That's kind of the big thing I want to see, and I totally agree. A chance he does something that no one else can do on this team,

and that's create chances that can create goals. He needs to take that next level and I think it'll take this team at the next level too, So it's a really important step to get that before we hit into playoff time.

Speaker 1

His talent is so high. I think we can see that that skill so clearly on the field. You know, it almost feels sometimes you know he'll just be it's like link Nico at the end of his career, running around to get involved and get the ball. And if he just kind of plays within himself we've heard this before, then then he can just let that skill come through and turn out some good results. Hopefully we see that loading bar. I think hit another point tonight where we

see sixty plus minutes. I'd love to see seventy five minutes out of Pedro dal Vegga to night. Two weeks from now, you have Portland, that's decision day. Need him to be ready to go for Portland, and need him for the playoffs because if this team wants to get to an MLS Cup, you're gonna need to probably get past an LAFC or an LA Galaxy, and I think we need a prime Pedro dal La Vega to do that.

So hopefully we see exactly what you guys are talking about, that mental bump and a good performance tonight in seventy five plus minutes from Pedro deal Levega tonight, because we are just about twenty five minutes away from kickdown in Commerce City, Colorado, Sounders facing the Rapids and our countdown to kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. Really quick, we'll dive into the

Providence Swedish team health report. I mentioned jul Paulo. He is on the bench tonight coming back from his calf injury. Roll Ruy Diez was also questionable with his knee not available. Today's team health report is presented by Providence Swedish official Healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. We'll take a break here in the premat show. We'll come back and we'll talk a little bit about tonight's hosts, the six seed

Colorado Rapids. This could be a playoff preview. We'll talk about the Rapids next here on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJRM.

Welcome back to the Providence Threeish prematch show Sounders down in Commerce City to face the Colorado Rapids tonight. Jackson Felt, Chance Fry, James Riley here on the Providence Swedish pre match show, counting you down to kick off, and it's time for today's Sharp Vision Opponent ALOC taking a look at today's hosts in the Colorado Rapids. The Opponent ALLOC each week is presented by Sharp Vision Modern las Can Lens,

the official Lasik provider of Sounders fc SO. I mentioned the previous segment, this Colorado team is the sixth seed right now to Seattle's three seed. If the playoffs were to theoretically start right now, these are the two teams that would be facing off in the first round, so we could be looking at a preview of that first round, which, by the way, in case you missed it last year. Last year was the first year of this new form. The first round is three games, two for the higher

seed hosting one away. It's best of three, and then from there forward it is one game elimination, winner take all, but the first round is two and then one. Sounders won the first and game against FC Dallas. Last year, Dallas took the middle game, so that is how it will work for the first round this year. So Colorado mentioned sixth place. They have a fifteen to twelve and

five record. They score a bunch of goals fifty nine that's ten more than Seattle, but also concede a bunch fifty six goals that is twenty two more conceited than Seattle. They're a little bit of a poor run of form right now. They have three losses in their last four games to Kansas City, Minnesota, and then they also played on Wednesday. They lost to the LA Galaxy, a three

to one loss at home there on Wednesday. Chance, this is a Colorado team with head coach Chris Armis that certainly wants to be able to get some points and get into one of these top four seeds by beating the Sounders tonight. Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 4

They've They've got their backs against the wall a little bit and having a couple of bad results lately. They want to get a win tonight. Hopefully the Sounders, you know, will keep up their intensity and even though they've done well all of the last five games and the last couple of months. Keep that up and fight through the altitude and the Rapids team that's going to be coming after.

Speaker 5

Him certainly, you know them being at home. Like I said, they'll definitely start the game very fast. It's going to be a slippery field to be a very fast paced field. They push the numbers, a lot of numbers into their press and into their attack, which leaves them pretty vulnerable in the transitional moments. And that's what happened against the Galaxy.

So look for right Jordan Morris can really come alive in that opportunity, but the transitional moments will be key, and then the line of confrontation in which the Sounders kind of, you know, counteract that high press.

Speaker 1

Do you try to.

Speaker 5

Play through the high press, as coach Smets alluded to, or do you just kind of go direct early on and try to bypass that, get your lineup and cause them to make mistakes. But yeah, it would be a big game for both teams tonight.

Speaker 1

A couple of sizeable absences for Colorado A Cole Bassett's the first one, a young midfielder who's been developing through Colorado for years. He's out with a quad injury. Kevin Cabral who has five goals for assists this year, he's out as well. But they have some guys who can score. Rafael and Navarro up top, who leads Colorado with fourteen goals plus five assists. Georgia Mihialovich, who you know really has kind of come on to the scene and bursted

through over these last years. He leads their team fourteen assists, also adding eleven goals. He's a tremendous player. Important note, Reggie Cannon is somebody that the Colorado Reggie Cannon at forming United States men's national team right back, really talented fullback player, can get up the field. He's on their bench tonight, not starting. But speaking of the United States men's national team, Zach Stephan was their big signing James

in the offseason. And Stephan's a guy that I think that everybody's thought coming in, all right, that's going to be the new leader, the captain, the guy who can lead Colorado to a great season. Yes, they're in a playoff position, but again fifty six goals given up. Zach Stephan is sort of like, you know, he was the guy he was the guy for the United States and that's drained quite a bit here over the last few years and now certainly with that.

Speaker 5

Number without a doubt, and he's motivated to make it back into the national team pitcher. So that's his motivation. But like I said, I think the goals that have been given up Colorado leaves themselves exposed, which he'll try to really correct. And you have to look at the goals and the chances that they've given up without a doubt.

His pedigree of being a goalkeeper is fantastic to make the saves that he needs to make, But is he being put in a position to succeed with the way you know, they push numbers into the press and the chances that they're giving up. But his pedigree is great. But the Sounders do have an opportunity to score multiple goals tonight.

Speaker 1

Chance do you do you get them on early? Do you kind of withstand pressure in these first fifteen minutes? How do you think the Sounders play it considering Colorado is the home team here.

Speaker 4

Yeah, definitely, what we talked about earlier, they're going to have to sustain some pressure, just soak it in and as James said, get their second legs to them, they get their second win, and I think that they'll be fine that way. The thing that's going to open up as Colorado needs to get the win, they're going to

be coming forward to get the goals. That's going to leave some openings at the back and that's where Jordan can maybe take advantage in Rock Rock and you know, maybe even Albert coming forward to and getting another goal.

Speaker 1

We have pace, right, we have Paul, we have Pedro, we have Jordan, we have speed on the field. If they get forward, let's get them. I love that idea there. We'll come back here in the pre match show. We'll give you our Sounders players to watch, and also the history against the Colorado Rapids. It is some good history

and some nice stats there to go over. So we'll continue the Providence Swedish premat show as we are now just about fifteen minutes away from kickoff right here on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJRM.

Speaker 1

Sometimes you're in the middle of a great conversation off the air and then you're you have to start the segment. And what's great is it fits into our players to watch right now, because we are leading into Sounders versus Colorado Rappers to just about fifteen minutes away on Sports Radio nine to fifty khr. AM, I'm going to continue the same conversation. My player to watch is Paul Rothrock, because you know, Paul's the guy obviously from Seattle. He's

come onto the scene. He's burst on with eight ghosts total across all competitions this year. Brian Schmitzer was on ninety three point three FM or kjr R FM station last night doing an interview and was asked he listen, is Paul in every game starter at this point? And he's like, yeah, Yeah, Paul's in every game starter at this point. And for clearly you see the social media buzz he's taking over. He is just the guy that

almost everybody is talking about. And it's almost impossible for a young person to not least read a little bit of your press clippings, right, so he's probably feeling it, seeing it, hearing it, whatever about the impact behind him. And I want to know, like, all right, now that you will know that you are a guy in every starting lineup, Now that you know that you have all this momentum behind you, Now, how do you play now? How do you respond to all this you know, outside

the field stuff going on? And can you continue to have these performances while all this outside noise is happening? Chance James, It's something that the interests me to see if we can continue to see the Paul Rothrock that we've seen over these last six months without.

Speaker 5

A doubt, he's been a fantastic player. I think I was on Zachawani's podcast maybe a month ago, and I just said, for me, I just describe him.

Speaker 1

He's a dog.

Speaker 5

He's a guy that you want on your team any given day. And then that's not easy to say, and so I just think he brings it on both sides of the field, and it's like a little bit of a Rocky type mentality. It's not always pretty, but he just gets the job done and he competes well for the team and the Crest, and you know, very happy to see him in his success. He's twenty five though, correct, he's twenty five years old. He's gone through the college system play that's come a defiant so like he's ready

in prime to compete. And these are big games to play in, especially as you fight for playoff position and then possibly go and then go into the playoffs. So these are are great moments for the endplayer.

Speaker 4

Yeah, well, it's sort of the opposite of what we were talking about with day la Vega. He has gotten those things that happen for him. Some goals come for him, and he gets that confidence and so he's feeling it and when he does read the press clippings or if Brian probably he doesn't do this, but lets him know, Hey,

you're going to be an all the time starter. That is a great feeling to have, and when you're in that moment, it's an awesome feeling because you're not always in the moment, especially when you're an attacking player, because you're generally one of the first ones to get subbed off. Well, let's get to you, guys as players to watch chance. I'll start with you.

Speaker 1

Who you going with tonight?

Speaker 4

You know what, I'm going to go with Peter de la Vega. I really and that's more of like maybe an emotional thing. I really really really want him to do well. I want him to do great. I think that he just needs to get, you know, another goal or two or an assist or something on board, and then even if he can't go the full ninety, that's okay, That's who I'm going to go with. But I am

going to throw on one little extra. I think with the slick field that James is talking about, Albert Rusnak is gonna hit a low shot skip into the bottom corner.

Speaker 6

Hold on.

Speaker 1

You've predicted things before, and then you've nailed the predictions, and I've said chance predict that, and you're like, no, I didn't. Actually, that is a full on prediction. He's gonna skip a low ball for a goal tonight. That's a full on prediction. What's gonna happen now, James, go ahead. Player to watch?

Speaker 5

I'm gonna go with two as well. I'm gonna go with the outside pairing of Alex Willdon and Knew who won. They're both national team pedigree their respective countries. Second, they've been very consistent, not only this year, but over a course of many years, and they bring great balance to the team. And so I don't think our outside backs get spoken about too often or enough, but they just bring a great balance for every everyone on the team,

I think, on both sides of the ball. So my players to watch are both Alex Roldonna Knew who.

Speaker 1

I love that you each both got two players to watch. So I'm gonna add Jackson Reagan for the long reason I wanted to mention Jackson Reagan and I haven't had the chance to yet tonight because the guy got a new contract. He got a nice bag of money here recently with his new deal through twenty twenty seven option

for twenty eight. And I think one of the things that's impressed me about Jackson Reagan is he gets this new big deal, and what do we see immediately from Jackson and Reagan back to back clean sheets and shut ups. And I love that to see a guy because how many players do we see across in general professional sports. They'll get a giant bag of money and then they time to take it easy and say, all right, I got my money, I'm good. It doesn't feel like we're

seeing that in the slightest from Jackson. It just feels like he's having that even keel centered mind to say, yes, I got my money, time to get back to work, and time to go have these clean sheets. And I just love that mentality for a kid who once again from Seattle, has just been able to keep that mindset and go get these results and a third clean sheet in a week tonight. I mean, if we're talking in two hours about three shutout wins in eight days, that's

going to be real good. And I'll be claiming I'll be singing the praises of Jackson and Reagan once again. Overall history against Colorado and Rapids have faced thirty eight times in both the regular season and playoff history. The Sounders have won twenty five of those thirty eight games, five losses, eight draws now in Commerce City at altitude a little bit worse but still pretty good nine wins, six losses for draws in the last three games overall one one and one, including a one to one draw

back in Seattle in March. But as we know, a lot has changed since then. We'll take one more break here in the premat show. We'll come back and give you that Sounders Delta starting eleven one more time, and our final thoughts before this game kicks off here in just about eight minutes here on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJM.

The attacking midfield has Paul Rothrock, Pedro dal Levega, Albert Rusnak with Jordan Morris up top chance. I'll start with you your keys to the match.

Speaker 4

My key for the match for the Sounders is just to keep a good mental hold of the game no matter what's happening at the beginning. Just keep yourself calm, all right, absorb pressure if there is pressure, but stay in the game and don't think of it, even though they've been doing really well as a throwaway, right, and just really stick to the game plan. Hold everything down.

And I think that if they will get chances, because what will happen is Colorado's gonna start coming forward, as we already talked about opening things up, and then we will get in behind. So I just think that we need to really focus mentally on their jobs and I think that that'll take care of everything else up fall in the place.

Speaker 5

James, Yes, you can three things. Set your line of confrontation, so you can press early first ten to fifteen minutes, and then set your line. Could you know Colorado is going to come out and really try to push the game at home, and then transitional moments are going to be critical and set pieces.

Speaker 7

Good Evening from Dick Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, where your Sounders take on Western Conference rival the Colorado Rapids.

Speaker 13

Two games to.

Speaker 7

Go for both teams and all still to play for Colorado have enjoyed a resurgence this season under head coach Chris Amas. In twenty twenty three, the rap has finished in the last place in the Western Conference and the second worst point total in MLS. With a flurry of new signings in the offseason, they have turned their fortunes around and are pushing for a top four finish. Your Sounders played their third game in a week, but they

will be brimming with confidence. Two wins, two clean sheets, four goals and now sitting in third place.

Speaker 13

Coming into this weekend's games, Brian.

Speaker 7

Schmetz will want to end their travels this regular season with a win and a chance to reach second position and solidify top four and home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. I'm Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders winger Steve Zachquanny for the call tonight. Before we get to see for his initial thoughts, let's get you

the delta starting eleven for your Sounders. Just one change for Brian Schmetzer from the game this past Wednesday in Vancouver, Stefan Fryan gol about four unchange of rolled on Yemar Reagan and new who Christian Roldan continues to play alongside Obed in the middle of the park. Pedro dola Vega comes into the lineup on that right hand side for Georgia Mnungo, who got his.

Speaker 13

First MLS goal in the midweek.

Speaker 7

Albert Russnek won assist one goal and his two assists one goal on his game last week against Vancouver. Paul Rothrock on the left with a goal, and then Jordan Morris up front for Chris Armas his team for two to three one stack, Zack Stefani goal, a back for Rosenberry, Abubaka Masu and Vines Larez alongside Connor Rohan in the middle of the park, Harris on the right in Mahailovich Lewis and then Navajo their fourteen goal man upfront. So see as the teams get lined up ready to go,

what does the Sounders have to do? We've heard the pre game from the guys, but it's a tough place to play, Altitude is a factor, and it's the third game in a week.

Speaker 26

Yeah, and I think you've got three at the playoffs.

Speaker 27

This is especially considering this is a team that if it was to end today, as Jackson mentioned, this is who you'd be playing and you'd have to go up there and try to win a game.

Speaker 26

So I think he treat you like a playoffs.

Speaker 27

You continue a good form, You've had got a massive winning midweek following up a massive win at home last weekend.

Speaker 26

Why not end on a nine point week?

Speaker 27

So I think for the Sounders after this you get a very good break until it all comes down to the game against Portland. Source the game you shoot at the playoffs and start from minute one.

Speaker 7

Colorado get us going here and they're all burgundy kit. They're one flag kit attacking the goal to our right. Tonight Sounders back in their anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts, white socks. They're attacking the goal to our left. And we'll just see how the Sounders come out the gates, if they'll absorb some early pressure from Colorado. As was mentioned in pregame, they've scored lots of goals fifty nine. They've also conceded a ton as well in fifty six.

So for Colorado, they certainly make games interesting, no doubt about that. Can the Sounders take advantage and being in five other Sounders four wins, one tie, that one tie being San Jose, there's four wins being four clean sheets, so a pretty remarkable time to get their defense in full working order going in to the playoffs. So the Sounders have it right hand side, a little flicking side by, rolled on giving away, picked up by Mahalovitch, good step

by Yemar. He goes down Mahalovich as she was Navajo went down the box. But here goes Rothrock down the left hand side. Ball fed to roth Rock down the left hand side, in behind the back four in the eighteen yard bucks he goes Jordan Morris making a run well covered by the back line. There was Sam Vines coming from that left back spot. Took it off the toe of Albert Rosneck. But good play by the Sounders in transition.

Speaker 27

And there's a snapshot right there of what roth Rock does there. As soon as Christian Rodun got on the board, he just took off and made he demanded the board from Christian Rodin And I think in the end, Rothrock does the right thing trying to get the little cop back there because Albert russ Knack was coming, Jordan was his only other option, but Morris really took the defenders away, and in the end it's just it was two sound as players to five Parala defenders and he lost a

numbers game. But that's a great transition play and it's gonna be chances for that. You mentioned how many goals of Rapids scored. It do that to attack a lot and be very high pressing, so the chances in transition will be there for the Sounders.

Speaker 7

I think James Riley mentioned it. They were vulnerable in transition when they played that high press in that four two three one, and it was La Galaxy took advantage, especially Maxu in the back, not the fastest, certainly got exposed at times by the lights of Peck and of course Jovlich and then Pouge getting a couple of goals in that win. It was actually the first loss in

eleven here. They had ten games unbeaten at home. So this place in Colorado and Commers City, Dick's Boording Goods Park, is becoming one of those fortresses that Kris Armas had talked about in early preseason when he came into the club. So the ball gets rolled back to Stephan Fry dicked out in all blue tonight yellow boots as he rolls the ball out to Jackson Oregan on it's near side the left back to Stephan Fry continues to separate himself from Kevin Hartman with toll clean sheets in MLS.

Speaker 13

It's in second on one hundred and fourteen.

Speaker 7

Clean Sheets, surpassed Kevin Harmon just a handful of weeks ago. And he continues steve to play at such a high level. He made a couple of crucial saves in each of the last couple of games when the team needed it most.

Speaker 27

He has and I think, you know, one of the things for the Sounders team is, even in this past couple of years, I think defensively has been so good and now that sort of that steady pairing of Reagan and Yemar, it just gives a lot of confidence to the whole team. And if you do get past that, you still have Stephan Fry, who's still after all these years at the top of his game. Has come up really big at times this season, and he's a match winner.

You know, he's a player. He's gonna go down in history for the save in the twenty sixteen MNS Cup Final, And all these years they are still coming up with big moments.

Speaker 7

Continues to play at such a high level. Of course, the world that Tommy Deuchra does on the practice field day in day out, continues to prepare these players to play not just individual games at a high level, but careers at a high level. And certainly Andrew Thomas waiting in the wings now has already proved himself this year in performances both in US Open Cup, League's Cup and then an MLS as he's been called upon, He himself

has two clean sheets and MLS this year. As the Sounders build out of the back, well sunders fans, even the great his athletes make sure to take the time to catch up with their friends over a Michelo Ultra because they know that joy is the whole game, not the end game.

Speaker 13

Michelo Ultra. It's only worth it if you enjoy it.

Speaker 7

Sounders building out the back here early on here in Commerce City, fifth minute, nil nil between the Rapids and the Sounders, both teams jostling for position as we approach the playoffs.

Speaker 13

Two games to go. Sounders get a two week break after this.

Speaker 7

So it's been a heavy load the last seven eight days, three games, but it's been seven days of success, two clean sheets, two wins against teams in and around them in the playoffs and then they finish up, of course on Decision Day, October nineteenth, in two weeks against their art's rival, the Portland Timbers. And won't that be a showdown of sorts Cascadia Cup on the line home field advantage I'm assuming will be on the line at that point.

The board gets not long ter this near sight to Roth which skips off that turf, and James Ronny mentioned the field would be slick and fast, but again it shows Jackson Reagan the added dimension Steve that Jackson Reagan's now bring. We knew he could play out the back with his feed, but now he's really opening up the field and allowing the likes of Rothrock, Georgie and De la Vega to get up and around.

Speaker 27

Is it gives you a lot of confidence when you know that you're center back and ping that board fifty sixty yards with accuracy and you're gonna make runs. And I think it's an era that Brad Evans especially has talked about a lot, and also directly to Jackson Reagan that if you could add that to his game, just sometimes you've got to bypass the press and another sounders love to build out from the back, but especially when Colorado Rapids are going to press, can you bypass that?

Not with long boards, but some accurate long passes. And we know that Jackson Reagan has worked on that a time. And when you have guys like rough Rock who's willing to run every chance he gets, it gives you such a great outlook.

Speaker 7

Here come the Sounders. Dela Vega in the middle of the park, tucked in from his right midfield position, spins out of pressure, well flixed at the outside of his foot to a Roznak has been in scintillating form this year. Here's a Rothrock, another players stepped up big time in the last couple of months, really solidifies his place. And they're starting eleven.

Speaker 13

As the ball gets whipped in towards the back stick bounces through.

Speaker 7

Would be a goalkick for Colorado and Zach Stephan here in the seventh minute Colorado nil, Sounders nil.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 26

I think for the Sounders is it's the kind of start you'd have wanted.

Speaker 27

You don't want to go, you know, into a place like Colorado where you're fighting the altitude.

Speaker 28

As well.

Speaker 27

They've been very good at home. Ten wins at home. That is a very very good home record, and if you're under the cush from the first minute, it can have been a very, very long evening. So you came in there sort of edging your way into it. We haven't see Stephan Fry too much. The sounders keeping a board well, connecting passes great balance between building up and also being a bit more direct. Would love to see a bit more efficient road Down and Albert Russen like

the central guys getting on the board. The playmakers, but Schmeezs and you start would be pretty pleased with the start.

Speaker 17

You know.

Speaker 7

I think Brian was talking about it today about the lineup, and you'd mentioned, you know, hey, maybe he doesn't quite know it's perfect eleven, which at this point the season you'd want it.

Speaker 13

But the questions are in the good area of the field.

Speaker 7

It's about players performing at a high level in the attacking third, whereas the back four and of course Seth fan Fry and even roll Down and Vargas are being solidified in those positions and playing as a really high level getting in the clean sheets.

Speaker 26

Yeah, that picks itself. There's a couple of question marks, you know what.

Speaker 27

You know that higher up the pitch as well, Jordan's gonna play, Albert's gonna play. It's really on that right hand side, and that's sort of the freeway battle right now with De la Vega, Jugo, Georgie.

Speaker 1

Rough Frock at the moment.

Speaker 27

Actually probably he's a solidified as well, So it's really those last two spots down the right hand side for those two players. But for branch mess he's having good problems right now. He seems in very good form. Guys are playing well, and he told us today that he's so happy with the depth of his bench, the bench as well as a big era that we know in playoffs it's usually gonna be the guy you don't expect.

He has to come up big and branch Mesal's across his bench now he has guys with lots of experience and guys that can play big minutes, guys you can trust, and that makes a big difference.

Speaker 7

A couple of guys are missing tonight through the combination of niggling injuries and some sickness.

Speaker 13

There's Leo Chwu and Rail Ruy Diaz.

Speaker 7

Want to be great to get ruy Diaz just back on that bench. Can he give you ten to fifteen twenty minutes of magic to potentially see out his career in the Sounders. Wouldn't he love to put one more championship trophy on the shelf and go out with a bang? And we know that Raoul has not had the second half of the season as he really enjoyed in the first half eight goals in his year, hasn't scored in a while, but continues to be the leading goal scorer

for the Sounders of eighty six goals. Jordan Morris surpassed Freddy Montero this year, sits on eighty three, so he's got a chance to potentially surpass this season even and playing at the ale high level. Here is that man Morris turns, plays the ball left hand side inside the boxes, Rothrock again getting involved.

Speaker 13

Sixteen yards out is Rosnak blocked well by the back line.

Speaker 7

I think it's Maxu or Vines who's got a foot in the way clear their lines throwing for the sound.

Speaker 1

As it's near side.

Speaker 27

In the end, it's great defending by the Rapids there, but again it's rough Rock. They great out there for Jordan Morris. He picks out Russnak on this occasion and Albert does everything great. You see what you guess. He's good first touch first of all, hard and low. You gotta give the Rapids credit. They've got the numbers back. There was very sloppy play from the Colorado Rappers, and you cannot give the sound as a ta how they're firing right now these kind of chances.

Speaker 26

But this is the improvement in rough Frost's game.

Speaker 27

Sometimes you know, as a young player, you just play across without looking, but you slow down a little bit. Now he picks out the run of Russneck intentionally there and the Sounders maybe wanting to get a bit more from that, but gives it offenders some credit for the Rapids.

Speaker 7

Though they're good pressed by the Sounders. It's gonna be a corner kick for Albert Rosnick first of the game here on this left hand side one. I'm up in the air right foot because he steps a couple steps back, now moves into it.

Speaker 13

Now he's gonna float it towards the back post, towards Jackson.

Speaker 7

Reagan bounces through and all the way out for a throwing on the far side, just sixty yards or so from the far corner flag, where his sister and referee puts his flag Upna Colorado with Sam Vines is gonna throw it down the line? Well sound As FC Socer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Tenth minute here, Commerce City, Colorado Rapids nil, Sounders nil. On Sports Radio nine fifty am. Big game in Seattle today,

the Husk is playing Michigan. The ball gets knocked down towards Dela Vega. Can he get a big game and really step up his play in the coming weeks as he prepares for playoffs? Knocks it to rolled on, cuts it back to Vargas, Whipped in by de la Vega. Great ball bounces through, headed over the end line by Roseen Murray. Doesn't take any chances. Jordan Morris just could have taken a gamble. He didn't.

Speaker 13

It just hesitated, ball goes through corner kick Sounders No.

Speaker 1

You said it.

Speaker 27

Jordan the kicking himself because if he takes a chance of there, it's a simple head up. It's a tap in because Dela Vega just whips that. I mean, you cannot ask for bear area too far for the goalkeeper to come out. The defenders don't want to get touching. It was an on board right there along the six yard line, and if Jordan just gambles, it's a head off.

Speaker 26

But you were taking himself there. What a chance, and what's across by de la Vega?

Speaker 7

Yep, didn't take a second, just put his head down, whipped it into the area between back line and goalkeeper. Here's a corner kick for Rosnack, floated in top of the six, popped up in the air, headed down, good strike, just takes the deflection. Zach Stephan scrambles to his right, saves it before he goes over the end line. Looks like he's a little bit of a black eye potentially. Zach Stephan just got called into the men's national team,

the first squad for Pochettino. You see a replay here, headed down, Jordan Morris just ready to turn on the half turn, gets a block at the foot of Zach Stephen and Colorado build again. But Steve, you're the kind of player that would have delivered that ball from the outside and a certain chance fire would have been the person inside that six yard box put it away. I'm sure he'll talk about it at halftime, and it is

that chance. You see the best strikers in the world they just take gambles because it's just one time you need it, and they get a goal of game. I mean, they're gonna be some of the top players in the world.

Speaker 27

Yeah, we just woke about Rudiaz and that's the sort of thing he did. He would just make that run and you just gammed when as a winger, you just put a ball into a dangerous area hoping someone's gonna get there.

Speaker 7

Here's Rosenberry, good block by new who's been in scintillating form defensive lazy strides forward, arms, going, gets mad, no backup for him. As Rosenberry picks it up right corner of the box, floats it in towards Navajo just flicks off his head. It's going to roll through to the far side as Alex Roldan chases it down, but it's going to be a thrown for the Sounders. A little bit of a giveaway on that right hand side, although

Sounder's left hand side. It gave Colorado another chance to deliver a ball in, but it was only Navajo in the box. Ryan Schmittz has said over the past few weeks and months four players in the box as his demand of his attacking players. Colorado had just the one, but the Sounders give it away. Picked up by Lauras redheaded, feisty midfield players come through the ranks down to Sam Vines back in one of those signings in the off season, coming in from Europe. As Ronan picks it up head up,

plays the ball into Mahailovich. Flick around the corner by Harris, played up in the air by rolled On, held it well by Jordan Morris. Something is brought into his game really well is his back to goal and here comes Rothrock again. Lefetown side beats Sabubacar with ease, Harris comes through the legs of Harris. Harris just about does enough to come back, but Rothrock is really causing problem. Steve zach Krone for the back four for Colorado.

Speaker 1

He's been good.

Speaker 27

He's been very dangerous on that Occasionally, I just think Jordan Morris has to hold his run because he was He would have been in, but Jordan was so eager to go and by the time Rothrock actually was able to play him the ball, Jordan was just offside and that's why Rothrock took the driven option there. But he's been involved in almost everything the sounds I've done attacking.

Why he's opening fourteen minutes or so playing with a ton of confidence, and you can see why branch MESSI really's rewarded him because he's been in that lineup, hasn't come out, and he had a few, you.

Speaker 26

Know, questionable games in the middle of that patch.

Speaker 27

And I love that she met stuck with him, didn't punish the kid, kept him in there, happy as the young players.

Speaker 26

And now he's really finding his very best friend.

Speaker 7

Paul given away by Newho just sloppy and slow on the ball in possession this time, he can't get mad at anybody. Was his own fault, but picks up. I never blocked well by Jackson Reagan. He turned his back hit the number twenty five goes over the end line for a corner kick. But a bit of a game of mistakes right now, Steve, A little bit of flurry of quality. Was to see a replay of Paul Rothrot

going through good defending by Harris. But it's been giving away some both teams in their defensive areas that have caused problems.

Speaker 27

It has been I think though, the one thing that haven't let from new who there can give the bad away, but his reaction, he's giving a bad away a couple of times. Friend hands in the air, not tracking back. I think New's better than that. He knows that, and I think Petzman, Precki and those guys will be on him for that for sure. You give the boat away, you work, you defend, get through the danger, then address

the issue. So he gave up a couple of times, and that gave him a Borrol, just a chance to shoot from twenty five yards completely unopposed.

Speaker 7

Colorado have been deadly this season from set pieces. War whipped him by Mihailovich's been good on the delivery. Most penalties and most goals from set pieces this season in MLS of Colorado Ohilovich, as we mentioned, eleven goals fourteen assists. He breaks Colorado record for most gold contributions in a season. He got signed in the off season from Alcamar and Holland. We have spent one season or that. He was in Montreal in a great year in twenty twenty one with

sixteen assists. Club MVP, of course, started his career in MLS at Chicago Fire Or gets hit good switcher play by Roll Danta Rothrock. This near side picks it up, just comes inside square to Vargas, just drop of the shoulder, goes by Lauras with ease, finds Alex Roldon looks to shoot, cuts it back, finds Ross at top of the box. A little combination with Morris looking for Vargas, but rothrock on this left hand side and it'll come on his right foot. Arm up the near by Harris asking for

a handball, nothing given. He picks up the rebound, goes on his left foot across the sake to Bubaka. Has to do a little bit of last minute defending. Heads the ball over the top. It's gonna be a corner kick remains Neil. Neil sives that quanny again. We're gonna say again it's poor. He's had a center of earthing they're doing right now. The bull finds him out why he tries to get across and I think in the end it does. They HiT's there over there, but nothing there.

It's very close to the body. But it comes back to Paul rough rocket.

Speaker 27

He's playing with a lot of confidence, dropping his shoulder, trying it across it into the box. On this occasion wins a sound as a corner. Another set piece opportunity to get the big lesson on the back forward and hopefully the sound has been capitalize. But it's been very good on the step fan's side so far from rough Rocks opening seventeen minutes.

Speaker 7

Yet you always know when a player knows he may have hit his hand when he holds his face like he got hit in the face when it's obviously on his arm, but his ball to armed or ball to

hand versus the other way around. But it's a corner of get for the sounds whipped in towards the back stick headed up in a way by Colorado cushion headed by Alex Roldan goes back to new Who's gonna use his right foot and just roll it all the way back to steph front Frye causes the sound as goalkeeper to scramble a little bit to his right hand side. There no pressure from Colorado was the sounders are gonna

build out of the back well. This copyright Audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent. Major League Soccer, seventeenth minute here in Commerce City, Colorado Sports Radio nine to fifty KGr AM Sounders nil, Colorado nil, two games to go in regular season, Sounders coming into this weekend's games in third position LFC. As we came on air, we're winning.

We're leading one nil against Sporting Case. That's going to create separation between the Sounders and LFC, who said in second the Sounders, if there was a results go their way, they could have jumped up to that second spot. Sounders and fifty three points coming into this weekend LFC at fifty five, and wouldn't it be great. We're talking off air, Steve, you know, looking at how things are going to kind

of play out. As Jackson Fels mentioned, best of three, it's ninety minutes then p case if it's a tie, so it's going to get a result without going to overtime in that first three games series in the first round. But LFC are there to be waiting hopefully for the Sounders, and the Sounders have had not great success against LFC, of course in the past few months, three losses and Open Cup League Cup MLS. Of course, we'll get to your thoughts minutes. Rothrop picks up again on this left

hand side. Sounders have joy as he whips it in close down by lures pops up into the night sky. Rothrop gets there first and shoulders it off off the arm of Bubercar. Referee says no, no foul as the boar goes into new left channel whips it in good cross. So what Jordan Morris just flicked away by Maxu, says sir, Referee's flag I believe was already up. It's gonna be

a free kick for Colorado. But as we mentioned, LAFC would be the team I think the Sounds would look at and say, hey, we need to get some revenge out of this group. If you're gonna win MLS Cup, we're gonna have to go through that group at some point.

Speaker 26

You'd think. So, I mean, they've been really good.

Speaker 27

I guess the sound is in it a few times if they this season, but I think at some point the Sounder is okay. And especially that Open Cup one that one kind of got away. So if you have asked Britches to win MNS Cup and Sounders have been or salts of Smetha this morning along with Miami, maybe the best team in MLS since the turn of the summer, really and so there's no fear of LFC as good

as they are. I think for the Sounders, no team wants to face the team in the playoffs they formed their in and picking up results home and away right now, I don't think it's a game that LFC, as much as they've been successful, would be circling and licking their lips about EVA.

Speaker 29

Well.

Speaker 7

The one thing that teams around the league and players around the league know where the Sounders is. They've got the experience in big time competitions ever present group of players that have been through it, thick and thin of once championships here in Seattle, from Stepan Fry all the

way through to Jordan Morris. Of course, the ball gets played into Rosenberry will high kneed high step by new who is he just clashes somewhat with Rosenberry kept in for Colorado tonight it's going to be a goalkick for Sounders Nil Nil and Chris Armas. Steve has really changed

things around. They struggled last year's and mentioned bottom of the Western Conference, had success a handful of years ago, and the Robin Fraser when they made the playoffs fighting for top spot in the Western Conference that particular season. But it's been really an oasis in a in a vast array of disappointment, really, but Armist has come in, added some new players and has really turned this thing around.

Speaker 27

The energy to stand his identity on the team, and I think it just needed to change. I think, you know, Robin did an excellent job there, all things considered, but sometimes things reached their end and the changes needed. And Armist, with the pedigree he has was you know, he was on the bench at Man United at some point, so obviously he knows.

Speaker 1

What he's doing here.

Speaker 27

And I think they've they've been a very good team, Colorado Rapids, And it's always been a team for me that it always sort of flatted the sea at times over the years in MLS. But this season, especially at home, they've been very good.

Speaker 7

Sex steph and long clearance finds its way to the far side to Lewis, picked up by Alex Scholdar on one v one. Lewis has his feet, drops the shoulder to his right foot, cuts it back, clips it towards the back, sick headed away, poor headed by news strikes it off the face or back if they think of you see who that is that that's Jackson Reagan. But great strike top of the box poor header by New

But here come the Sounders in transition. Well they do so well now playing direct as well as the possessions. Dela Vegas skips White by a couple of Colorado Rapids players, rolls it with his left foot to this near side to Rothrock, five yards or so from the end line, closed down by Rosenberry's not getting too close, giving Rothrock the respect he deserves after two goals in the last two games, game winner against Houston, clinching third goal against

Vancouver in midweek. I think it was rolled on and we even got it off the face from that block, But all came from a bit of a poor header from New who's been a little bit sloppy in the back line giving the ball away a couple of times that the Sounders are going to have to go through some of these situation. See when you play away from home, we know how difficult it is to go on the road. The Sounders have had I think seven wins on the

road looking to get their eighth. But there's always going to be times where the home teams gonna have these areas of yeah, success and pressure. The Sounds just have to withstand it.

Speaker 27

Yeah, And that's something the Sounders have been doing very very well when teams are have when teams are on top of you, they're having their wave and sometimes you know, playing in these games, especially in a place like Colorado where you're fighting also the elements at the altitude as well, and no, if they're if we're facing a good Rapids team, you have those five ten minute stretches where it just feels like you're gonna conceidew on top of you and

you need to stand up big and blocks that we saw of Christian Roduande that I mean he freeze body in the way. Those are game winning plays. You know, it's not gonna star up on us that sheet. It won't be you know, as much as a god and assist. But he freezed body in the way. It was a really good strike and it keeps the Sounder's level at this point. So you need that at some point they're

doing the right thing now. Taking his finger out of the game, keeping possession, and Stephan Frank put his foot on the board and then just sort of taking away the little momentum the Rappids began to build.

Speaker 7

It goes direct towards Jordan Morris, headed away by a Bouba Car. But then the Sounders start to press now with rosnekhn Lorez, and again that's a bit of a change from the Sounders early in the season. They try and build out back almost too much to get caught in possession. They gave away some sloppy goals. It caused some of their problems in the early part of the

season where they really struggle to get going. But come the beginning of May, things have really turned around, as it's been mentioned in the broadcast on Wednesday eleven too and two.

Speaker 13

In the last fifteen games, thirty five points.

Speaker 7

That's the most points in MLS only second first and the MLS second is Miami with thirty four points. When you think about what they've been doing over the last couple of weeks, shows what the Sounders have done quietly and efficiently. Steve A building points and buildings.

Speaker 26

Because that's a support she would pace.

Speaker 27

You know, Miami's about to break the record for most points in the regular season all the time if they can win their last game, which is hard to bet against them not doing that. And as Sounders, I've kept pace with them for several games now, and so it just makes you wonder if you came out the gates a little bit quicker. Some of those games you gave

away with you know't stopping plays defensively. Where could the Sounders have been so in a very good spot, what could have really been in a support your.

Speaker 7

Conversation, Well, it's been picked up at home, of course, eight wins at home, only two losses, but six ties and a good chunk of those who are in the beginning parts of the season where they're in winning positions and a number of occasions and it felt like it was a red card here, a sloppy goal given away there, a last minute goal there. They've just lost their way at times. But now it's becoming much more efficient place to play as Luman. They're getting the results. They're comfortable.

Speaker 1

Houston.

Speaker 7

They didn't get that second goal to make it more comfortable during that game. See we talked about it, you know, but they managed to find that one nil win, which is what you need to do as you build for the playoffs exactly.

Speaker 27

Houston will be a playoff team, as were the Rapids. Now you're playing teams you played a white Caps as well.

Speaker 7

Here comes to elevate a good shift of pace, tries to find oh, I guess the thing was even Morris who cut back outside the six. He looked to cut the ball back. It bundles over the end line. It's going to be a goal kicked for Colorado. Remains nil ill here, but good change of pace by de la Vegasy Zach Kwani.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 27

We maybe he's feeling a little bit left out. We're talking about rough Rock so much now. The l Vega shows a great turn of pace and he's getting a bit more involved. And I actually think now branch Mets and his staff will be a little bit disappointed because you've got in behind five six times now into really good areas, which is tough to the way from home, getting crosses into the box low and hard like that.

And we haven't really tested Zach Stefan and the Gold and haven't really looked like scoring.

Speaker 1

And we should have.

Speaker 27

So I think for branch METSA, yes, we'll created chances. We're getting in behind. Both My wingers are very active, but you've got to get more from the situations because away from home it is hard to sustain that and they will come a time when that will dry up and you're still zero on the board.

Speaker 7

Is not good poor headed by Alex Roldan flicks off his head, finds the foot of Mahailovich left hand sidy top of the box. It goes a little cut back there. Lorez just dribbles in, stood up by Yamar Good defending by Jemar again playing in solid form in the last month or so, team with a match day last week for his performances, clearances and breaking up attacks. Here come Colorado flicked around the corner to Lewis, the little turn and swivel top of the box, strike low and hard,

goes wide. It's gonna be a goalkick for Sounders. There's the Colorado faithful applause to build up from the rapids, but it came from a long clearance and a misheader by rolled On caused the problems that eventually will lead to this goal kick for the Sounders.

Speaker 26

Yeah, and the Rapperds did well to sustain the pressure there.

Speaker 27

But I think the end of the day, for facing a shot from twenty five yards out, Sounders had enough players back there was never really threatening was evyone target.

Speaker 26

I think you live with that.

Speaker 27

Stephan Fry if he gets to be from there, he's going to take probably a very very special strike.

Speaker 7

Yeah, you mentioned sixty four percent possession for the Sounders. As Yemark, maybe there's a hand to face. Hopefully it's nothing more sinister than just an innocuous challenge. I think everybody's surrounding the referee. Heel a car for Yemar. Referee Tim Ford let things go in the early parts of this game, but saw something that maybe we didn't see was Navajo closed down yem Yemar. He put his arm up just to protect himself from the ball, which see

a replay. I mean that is very soft. As Navajo holds his face, I think there's more is chest again. I think it's Calvin Harris and Navajo have been going to the acting classes this week. There's gonna be a free kick for other Rapids.

Speaker 27

It's a really soft yellow card. I mean you said it. I think Yama is trying to protect himself. Yeah, his hands a bit higher, but there's no swing, there's no forced there's nothing in that to get a yellow card for that. So yeah, very disappointing. But the Sounder's got a regroup, can't focus on that. Yeamo's got to stop talking to her free at this point because they're still yapping away at each other, and you've got a free kit to the fend in a very good position here

for the Rapids. If the sound has just got to stay focused, Jamo's just not get his head back into the game.

Speaker 1

It's happened.

Speaker 7

It comes a free kit for the Rapids. Sounder just sitting on the PK spot. Now they back up towards the back post. The Buba car goes in, makes ahead of him six yards, flicked over the top. It looked like from Stephan Fry. Nothing given by the assistant referee or the referee. We'll see a replay, right, here's Steve. The ball comes in, Bukar gets up and it looks like a little flick from Fried.

Speaker 26

It looked like in real time Stephan Fry got to touch you.

Speaker 27

I think they're getting a repo out of stadium because the fans are reacting. Yeah, how does not this sounds escape? So one bad decision for the free kick and the sound is even up now, But that should have.

Speaker 6

Been a corner.

Speaker 7

Maybe the referee felt bad about his decision before. As Navajo clatters into the back of Jackson Reagan, Jackson REGs is a little bit careful asking for the yellow card. We know that's getting hit on by US Soccer and FIFA around the world when players asked for yellow cars. But it was a clash in the back, and I think it's a worthy question if Yemar we seemed like an innocuous challenge on Navaja gets a yellow card.

Speaker 13

Navajo more cynical this case.

Speaker 7

Clutteres into the back of Jackson and Reagan as he from the free kick not soo long towards Rothrock and picked up by Colorado. Rapid's a good step by Vargas was called into the senior men's national team for Mexico. Plays the ball out left hand side left corn the boxer Rothrock just slows the game down back to Jordan Rice five yard ball inside to roll Don comes back to new who slopping that first touch. Now its signed to go in a bit of a dead end here,

managed to pull the ball back. Good ball inside to Rothrock gets himself out of trouble, finds rolled down, squares it across the field to his brother Alex, pinched in from his right backspot. Whereas that makes a little run in behind into the pocket of space. Sound is getting good possession in the attack in half of the field, just methodical in their possession, trying to find that opening. So far, Steve Zachkuani mentioned they haven't tested zach stefine goal, but can they do it?

Speaker 1

Here?

Speaker 7

Here's Rotter drop the right shoulders. Looks that far corn not a bad effort by Rothrock, just goes why it's gonna be a goal. Kate remains nil nil in the thirtieth minute, but Rothrock continues to cause problems for Colorado.

Speaker 27

So direct, so direct, and you can see the moment he gets it. Rosenberries backen off and when a defender does that, just drive, drive, and he knows his mind.

Speaker 26

Was made up.

Speaker 27

He's been looking for his teammates all afternoon, all evening. That one he's gonna got alone and it's a really really good strike there. Again, doesn't actually completely the way he wants to, but I would have played the approach play.

Speaker 26

This is a man playing with a ton of confidence right now.

Speaker 7

Yep, two goals in the last two games. It was a very similar position as his goal against Houston, which was the game winners. It curled it into the bottom corner. It's going to be a free kick for sorry, goalkick for Colorado. Zach Stephen, sitting in the middle of his box in the yellow just strikes it. The former Man City player played some time on loane at Middlesbrough time in England, came short found his way to the Rapids

in the off season. Jackson Felt mentioned he's giving up a ton of goal fifty six.

Speaker 28

On the year.

Speaker 7

I think a man of his quality. But it's also he's made saves as well. It's not been particularly protected well by the back four. Sounders aren't able to capitalize it in this pressure so far only two shots for the Sounders, zero shots on target. Sounds will be comfortable right now in six or four percent possession. Referee gives the advantage. It looked like, yeah, mom, maybe got pulled down Highlevich on the ground. Referee is not going to

pull this back right now. We'll see if he does anything. Yemar of course, sitting on a yellow card, turns side his rown and he's going to roll it out to the far side to Sam Vines fans from his left back spot, closed down by Dela Vega doing some good defensive work as he forces the ball back as the hare comes to Maksu. I mean a couple of years ago. His debut for Wrap for the Rappers was against the Sounders back in the early first game of twenty twenty three.

That was a shot to the system, Sounders coming out four nil winners. Steve You and I have called that game and Jordan Morris got a couple of goals. It's a good start to that season. They weren't able to reproduce that early season form this year, but now it's about the back end of season where the form's coming for the Sounders. It comes Harris. Thirty second minute, top of the box Stripery Mahalovitch takes a deflection wicked bounce in front of Stephan and Fry, but he gathers it cleanly.

Speaker 13

And here in the thirty second minute it's the Rapids nil sounds.

Speaker 12

Well.

Speaker 7

September fifteenth.

Speaker 13

October fifteenth is LATINX Heritage Month.

Support LATINX owned businesses throughout the month for a chance to win Sounders prizes. Visit intentionalist dot com to find a business near you. Sounders building more confident afflicked up in the air by Fry finds Jackson. Reagan of course signed that new contract just a couple of weeks ago Rothrock comes inside, it's getting hassled and haired by Rosenberry.

Sound has that possession with the foot of Dollar. Vega has been involved at times during the games and a couple of flashes in the attacking third of the field. Will hope to see maybe some more minutes out of Dolla Vega as he continues to build that fitness, that bank of fitness that you can pull on. In the playoffs, it's typically been around about the sixty fifth minute mark where he's come out based on metrics or the sounders track.

Of course, it's so scientific these days. And this sunn you tries to clip it into Morris on the digon cushion headed buy vines all the way back to Zack Stefan.

Speaker 30

Fair.

Speaker 13

It's kind of found that lull in the game.

Speaker 7

Steve It. It got off to a good start and it just feels like both teams are playing somewhre of a chess game. They both played on Wednesday. Of course there's be some heavy legs because of the altitude.

Speaker 27

But yeah, one of the issues of Sounds that are having is no this season especially they like bringing Alex roll down when the attacks sort of inside into midfield. In the build up, but Pedrol has to come inside as well, and so when they're on this left faust side there is absolutely no width.

Speaker 26

On the right hand side.

Speaker 27

You have both Pedro and Alex in the same line inside sort of like ten to fifteen yards in from the touch line, and you just course ask Alex to play a bit more white, and then Pedro come and said.

Speaker 7

Here comes Morris, so inside the box right inside, cuts it back to Pedro just aluds and now it's Rothrock tries to slide it in the corner, blocked out well by the Rapids back line, clipped up in the air towards Vines, able to hold it up but giving away. Sounders have it again in the attacking third of the fielded a good break from Dalla Vega balling to Morris. It's been a much more willing runner in these last

few months. As we mentioned, he's played in every single regular season game this year, and in years past it's not been that case where the Sounds have had to manage Morris in his game load. This year, it's only been those early US Open Cup games that he's missed. He's played every other game, whether it's from a starting position, or coming off the bench, and the Sounders have needed it and we've talked about it. Steve is that with ruy Diez out, Masovsky really hasn't found his form as

a sounder. It's really going to land on the shoulder Jordan Morris.

Speaker 26

And a lot of it's been Alvin. He has to play right now.

Speaker 7

Here comes Lewis left corner of the box, challenged by Alexual darn comes aways right for because of the fast side, just wide of Stephan Fry's goal, maybe a bit further wide than we thought. Fried looked very comfortable. It's going to be a goalkick here in the thirty fifth minute. Colorado nil, Sounders nil. And this score update is presented by Michelobultra Sounders. As we mentioned, two weeks off an international break, US played Mexico in Guadalajara on October fifteenth,

played Panama as well on the twelfth. There's certain Obed Vargas is going to be part of the Mexican national team against the US and made mention it in the press just a week or so ago that that was the proudest moment of his career, just hearing that he'd been called up to the Mexico national team. He made that decision early in the season to shift his allegiances from the US Alaska Alaska born and came down to the Seattle are as a young kid, of course, to

join the academy. But now he's made his commitment to Mexico and it's worked out very well for him.

Speaker 26

Steve is well deserved.

Speaker 27

I mean, I keep forgetting how young he actually still is, because now he's seasoned. His name is one of the first ones on the team sheet. He's building a great rapport of Christian Roodande you cover so much ground. He's added offensive elements to his game, and he's a player from day one I think who came in and a lot of young players come in and just tried to not mess things up, not make mistakes, and then some come in and can do that and also make things.

Speaker 26

Happen, and albed is in that second group. He was trying to make that from day one.

Speaker 27

Plays with a ton of confidence and he's a fiery character as well, So I'm not surprised at all, and he's only at the beginning of his career. He has a chance to go if he stays there for a long time. He'll have options, but to be one of the true true sounds greats.

Speaker 7

Let's not forget back in the CCL Championship season. Started the early part of the season, got the nod, earned his position in preseason and then came off the bench to replace JP when he got that ACL injury and just played fantastic and he picks up an injury himself. Of course that year that put him out for the back half of the season, but he certainly continues to go up in statistics. Last year no goals to assist, this year one goal, seven assists in regular season and

the goal of course against Nikaksa in League's Cup. They come the sound is with Rothrock again on his left hand SiGe he's found all sorts of joy. Left corner of the box comes back and it's right nothing option, no options. Forward goes back to new who's been supporting from behind, hasn't been for too much on that left back spot. We know that Knew who typically stays home, allows Alex rolled On to shift high into the right. We knew who also it's got that ambition to get forward.

No goals, no assistant his here Lott Kroif turned inside his own half. I'm not sure if Brian Schwetz will really appreciate that almost gets lose his possession. It's Harris.

Speaker 26

I think the first two step of was were fine. It was the fourth and fifth one will have an.

Speaker 7

Issue with Hey just has to prove they can do it. It comes to la Vega as the player who can do is He cuts the ball past Lewis, comes inside, knows when to play it short, goes to Vargas and rolls it out to this near side to new who But twenty twenty five season and memberships are on sale. It was rothrock shot that got blocked on the left hand side found itself into the right with Yamar Sonders looking comfortable. Haven mem behind the ball for Colorado as they try and see

these final seven minutes out getting the locker room. Sounder's looking trying to pinch a goal, get into the lead. It's nil nil here right now in Commerce City Sports Radio nine point fifty kg FM. Don't leave us at halftime, Chance Fry Jackson, Feltz, James Riley, we'll be back to break it all down. I think Chance will talk about that little chance that Jordan Morris had. He could have

taken that gamble Jackson. Reagan breaks the lat brilliantly with a pass and she passed into de la Vega, almost finds Rosneck just eludes his step, given away, poured down again by Dela Vega on the another chance now to find a Sounder shirt. He does with New who plays a simple pass, has a little roll over the ball again by New who extremely important in his game to show us that he can got that skill as Rothrock has it comes inside on that left hand side. He's

been a real thorn in the Colorado's site. Given away by Rosna, but didn't have much to do with that ball. Rothwick just kind of whipped it into him. It comes Harris. When you know that New is in full high step mode, you know you shouldn't play the ball. It rolls out to Stephan Fry.

Speaker 27

Yeah, and that's why Harris held his run because he saw Knew who was re engaged, was going to track him back all the way and he's probably not gonna win that foot race nine times out of ten against New who So that's much better from New you give. You know at times he's transitioned defense and hasn't been good in terms of recovery on that occasion. That's what makes him one of the very best in Amos when

he's locked in defensively like that. That's why the Sounds have been so good defensively for the past couple of seasons.

Speaker 7

Yep, four clean sheets in the last five. For those clean sheets were wins, convincing wins. The Sounders of found waste of wins in different ways, found goalscorers in different ways. It wasn't for a blunder at the end of the San Jose game, it would have been five wins out of five. But here comes Mahidlovich. Now has been a revelation for Colorado this year, coming in as Jackson Reagan steps in, marks it to Lorez, who picks it up playing alongside Connor Roan and goes to that man. Ronan

back to Lorez. No real pressure from the Sounds, rolls out to Harris could defend him by New, who goes flying in blocks it over the end line. But it's going to be a corner cake. With five minutes to go here in the first half, Colorado nils Sounders nil and the score update is presented by Prominent Swedish. Because the Sounders it's going to organize themselves. It's actually going

to be a gonna be a long thrown. It's blocked out by Knew, who is a great sliding blocked by the Sounder's left back, but Rosenberry he's gonna throw it in short this time back on his weaker left foot, clips it in towards the penalty spot, headed clear by Jackson Reagan de la Vega using his strength. We know that del Vega's got quick feet, but he's got this little bulky body as well, where he's got low sense of gravity. He's very similar to Argentinian players in general.

They just have an ability just to anchor themselves to the ground. Steve and just kind of absorb pressure then turn out that pressure and play forward.

Speaker 27

Yeah, that low sen of gravity, he sort of can ride challenges so close to the ground.

Speaker 26

And I think Pedroy he was involved maybe.

Speaker 27

The first twenty five minutes, and I think you mentioned the game sort of went into a loan and I think he suffered a lot from that. He needs to be in the flow of the game, team having lots of little touches in between players. He's sort of been

isolated up on the right hand side. He's starting to try and find the ball come inside a lot more, and I think just between him and Albert Russ and that they've got to find a bit better spacing at times, and one of them must to always be close to Jordan Morris because Jordan, now you know, flow of the play is sort of by mis off against two center backs every chance he gets, because both Albert and Pejer want to get on the ball, so they're coming deeper

and deeper and deeper. Credit to the Rapids because they they've made an adjustment because early on the Sounders were getting sort of anything they wanted.

Speaker 26

And they've also sort of taken out that transition ball as well.

Speaker 7

There comes Rothrock again, just drops his left shoulders, sitting wide on his left hand side. Now it makes you run inside as he tries to fine pockets the spaceball. That's the right inside to Delaveag's already put a great ball in towards Morris drops the shoulder again, whips it in. Good play again it was it was Maxu came flying in, eventually cleared over Stephan's goal almost in the back, and then it went. But it's again Dela Vega's right foot causing problems and that.

Speaker 27

Outside it's good play from Pergura again. I mean he just direct. Both Sounders wingers have been sold direct. That's a really good ball there. And in the end, maybe Zack Stefan shout was heard. He collected that comfortably. Maybe, but MAXI wasn't to know try to deal with it, and he's just lucky he didn't turn it into his own net.

Speaker 17

You know.

Speaker 7

The corner kick to the Sounders and they make it count. Sanders struggled from corner kicks in the early part of the season. I think it's one hundred and three corner kicks without a goal, and then more recently it's been qualities. Paul goes in, it just goes wide. It was Christian roll down flashing to that front post. It's going to be a goal kick rapids nil. Nil's still here in Commerce City. But Steve's a quantic, good delivery, good chance for the Sounders.

Speaker 27

Yeah, it's a good boy into that near post. Spaces to so many goals scored in for Christian. You want to just try to help it on, keep the ball going, and he trying to sort of flick it on. He tries to get almost makes too good of a contact then and in the end he overran the near post. It it would have been hard to turn that in. But it's a good board, good run from Christian and the sound is finishing a harsh run.

Speaker 21

Yep.

Speaker 7

Branch went so once fifty five percent possession from his team is getting sixty five percent today, So Real dominant in possession of But it's a matter of trying to test sex definite. Steve zac Quani mentioned and Sanders taken advantage of chances because playing away from home in MLS, it's tough to generate good chances as Samd's just faff around with it again in the back given away by

new who good defending by Jackson Reagan. It's gonna be a throwing just a four yards or so from the corner flag on this near side Colorado Rapids right hand side comes in quickly by Mihailovitch to Rosenberry, who was a giveaway by knew who that caused it all top of the box to Larez advancing four from his central midfield position this game, but here come the Sounder is in transition, that being dangerous in transition, notably against Vancouver

when Rothrocks scored And where is that just maybe some heavy legs, just a little loose on that touch gives it away. We've got the ball and had it bounced from that advantage point, but nothing given by his sister referee. Good play by Vargas, goes down good gets the clip off the heel of the Rapids midfield player Ronin. It's gonna be a thrown for the Sounders eighteen yards or so from the corner flag on their right hand side.

Speaker 27

Yeah, I mean, you've got a thing. They want to get much more from the last counter attack. It's free against free at one point four against free even and I think it just was too narrow. Wasna's running and he has little veg against that and that should be a foul for the Sounds.

Speaker 1

It's not given.

Speaker 27

And disappointing there because I think the sound has had numbers in the attack in transition and Indian album got quught on the board, but his options weren't great.

Speaker 7

Here's the Sounders again. Marie's top of the box, first chance to really go at the back line with the ball at his feet, goes over the end line. Laretz comes back, takes it off Della Vega's foot. One minute of at a time. He fifteen seconds past the forty five Sounder's gonna have a chance from cornerkick here there's sixth corner kick of the game. Already had pressure in the attacking third. Can they nick a goal before the

halftime break. It's gonna be Rosnack's gonna go on the far side there right this something's gonna be an outswinger with his right foot. Rosnack, of course, surpassed his career best assists for a year. He's a fifteen assists now, just one away from Ladero sixteen assists for the Sounders that record, but all comes in towards an near post. Jordan Morris tries to clip it forward, picks it up.

Lewis almost guts then Sounds able to retrieve it. Clipped in by Rosnack and to the back stick headed by Yeam, are headed clear by Lorez off the hands of step and flick over the top by Yeam, a little bit of magic from the Sounders center back, eventually cleared by Lewis up in the night sky. We're past the forty six minute mark. The referee continues to let play go. I'm not sure if there's been any type of delay in this minute, but here come the Sounders. Can they

take advantage? Ball over the end like corner kick? Is Tim Ford going to allow this to happen? Already a minute thirty past the forty five of one minute added, so we deep into extra extra time here of the first half.

Speaker 13

Tim Ford's going to get a earfull from.

Speaker 7

Colorado and Chris Armas if the Sounders can do something here, it's going to be a corner kick on the Sounders left or which in low clips it around, bounce around the et and yard but away by Sam Vines and there's the referees whistle. Eventually puts the whistle to his mouth, brings this first half to a close somewhat of a chess match in some ways, neither goalkeeper really having to

be tested too much. There was chances for the Sounders in the attacking third that just couldn't make anything of it.

Speaker 26

Steve your final thoughts, Yeah, I think it's a good half from the Sounders.

Speaker 27

I think defensively did well, didn't and let Stephan Fry get tested too much, couple of ships from distance. Offensively, you got into so many good positions, bought some white areas and the one letdown has been maybe not made Zach Steffan work as much as it should have.

Speaker 7

Well, don't go away, we'll be right back after this short break where Jackson fails James Riley chance fire, We'll be back to break it all down and halftime here at Dick Sports and Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado's Rapids nil, Sounders nil.

Speaker 1

Forty five minutes in the books down in Commerce City, Colorado. Your Sounders and Rapids even at zero zero right now and Sounder's FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Jacksonville's Chance for James Rally. Here for the halftime show. To break down those first forty five minutes, Let's just start with opening thoughts. Chance, what do you see from this zero zero game so far?

Speaker 26

I think it was good.

Speaker 4

We kind of thought that they were going to be under a bit more pressure. Colorado came down a few times, but we've had apparently sixty five percent possession and it was a good solid first half and we've had a lot of attacking moments, especially down the left hand side with Rothrock and a couple of great crosses from Peter on the right.

Speaker 5

For me, exceptional. I mean, I'm watching the game like that. That is a fantastic forty five minutes from everyone on the field. I thought, in possession at a possession transitional moment, the fact that we're continually you know, having end product and creating set pieces and and corner kicks is great.

If there's two things, it would be can we get be more dangerous on set pieces on the corner kicks that we do take and then take away the silliness you have Yemar with his yellow like that in a playoff game could lead to a dangerous free kick that could possibly be a scoring chance for another team. But I think all in all exceptional. I think Dela Vega came came in and was very bright. I mean that is a top not professional performance having come in with

kind of some adversity. I mean I thought every touch was clean. I thought he made others around him better. His decision making is being dangerous getting services in the box. Like a very very clean performance from him. So I thought it was a great half.

Speaker 1

I think I forget if this was on the air off if before the game started, during the pregame show, we were talking about like we want to see a good good sixty minutes from pedro 'de levey at least go and I said, define good chance. I feel like what he did tonight. Yes, there's no assistant, no goals so far in the first forty five minutes, but from what we saw from him, that is that is good. That is very good. From what we saw from Pedro.

Speaker 4

I thought, yeah, we all agree, it was very good. And it just so happened that a lot of the play was going down the left hand side, so he really didn't get the ball as much as a Rothrock did. But when he did, he was quality, and he was getting back and helping defensively a couple of times too.

Speaker 26

I thought he was solid.

Speaker 1

He looked really good. And James, speaking of Rothrock on the left side, we've seen him get those opportunities much more. And I'm just gonna say, yeah, I tweeted this out too. If they don't contain Paul Rothrock, if they keep allowing him that much space and allowing him to make moves, he's going to get him for a goal or assist tonight, without a doubt. It's it's interesting to see kind of

the respect that he's already garnered. Like I think there's a being a former right back, there's a there's an instance where he took the ball close to the touch line with his chest and the defender still giving him space to like bring it down, control it and go. So it's like very interesting that he's garnered that respect. But again he's a dog. He gets he gets up,

he gets back, makes the right play. I think the only blemish and the this is probably for young players when you have an Albert Rusnak overlapping you, like you get him the ball right. There's an instance where again he cuts in and tries to hit it, like, utilize that overlap. You can go you know, around through or over a defense. Like that's a great opportunity where you have your ten overlapping you at pace. Can you just focus, isolate that defender and create that isolated moment to play

your ten. But other than that, he was fantastic well Sounder fans, even the greatest athletes make sure to take the time to catch up with their friends over a michelob Ultra because they know that the joy is the whole game, not the endgame. Mikelub Ultra. It's only worth it if you enjoy it. Well, it's like a break and continue on the halftime show. It's zero zero down in Commerce City. More next on Sports Radio nine to fifty KGr AM.

Taking look at Seattle's bench tonight. It includes Nathan Joel Paulo who's finally back, Josh Atensio, Jonathan Bell, Danny Mazowski, Read Baker Whiting, Danny Lava, Georgie Lenongu, and Andrew Thomas. But Chance, James, I mean that's the bench. I want to see this crew that's on the field right now, get you know, see if we can't get a goal out of these eleven, Chance be.

Speaker 4

Surprised if there are any changes at the halftime. I think they're gonna let them keep going as as is We've had good focus in the first half, just a little bit sharper in the final third and in the box, and I think I think will be to the good. But we've had I marked down here, Jordan, Albert and and Rothrock all had three decent chances that could have been goals. So we've done really well.

Speaker 5

Yeah, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Like I thought, it was a great half. Now you're just trying to optimize in the second half. Take your chances when they come. I think they can be a little bit but more dangerous on corner kicks. So do they throw in a short corner?

Speaker 1

Do you know?

Speaker 5

We try to do something there, But they're producing a lot of corner kicks. But all in all a great half. Look for more of that to continue. And then obviously you have the the Firecracker coming in if you want to and Georgie who can?

Speaker 7

Who can?

Speaker 5

This is a game that he could really unlock. With the Colorado Rapids two outside backs probably being their weakest, you know, getting him isolated on that right side against fines could really possibly unlock this game.

Speaker 1

We'll they're right back. Kegan Rosenber offensive primarily player and if he tries to cheat up the field little bit too much, no matter if it's Pedro, if it's Paul, or if it's Georgie, make him pay. Speaker 13

They're attacking the goal to our left.

Speaker 7

Colorado ten games unbeaten at home before they're three to one loss in.

Speaker 13

Midweek against the La Galaxy.

Speaker 7

No changes for either team. Let's get you the lineup as the Sounders will get ready to kick this one off. Stefan Frying goal a back four roll down, Yemar Reagan Knew who Bargas and Christian rolled on in the middle of the park, De la Vega, who's been lively on that right hand side, Rosneck Rothrock and then Jordan Morris.

The Sounders get us going with Jackson Reagan playing direct towards Maxu, which loops the header up into the air, bounces through the la vega using his body just trying to pressing Harry as Maxu lifts it long headed forward by Mihailovitch is going to be cushing back to Stefan Frying goal and all blue tonight line drive through the middle of the park. It's going to skip through all

the way through to Zac Stephan. Let's get you the Colorado team coming out of the gates for Chris Armas, Stephani Gohla back for Rosenbary abubakr Masu and Vines, Lorez and Ronan in the middle of the park Harris, Mahailovich and Lewis and then fourteen gold Man Navajo up front. It comes Lewis for Colorado, top of the box, A little ball into Lorez, little drop of the shoulder, go square to the man, Navajo just to the left.

Speaker 13

Eventually saved comfortably by Fry.

Speaker 7

I think it was hearts in Males moment for a second as it came through a bevy of players, But it's gonna be an early save for Stephan. Friary mains Neil Neil Steve's that one of your thoughts.

Speaker 27

Yeah, we haven't seen too much of that from the rapids, where they've got this intricate passing in the round the Sounders box and that for a man who's got so many goals this season, that's a good chance doesn't catch it all the way well, and so it's comfortable winner for Stephan Fryer. But I do expect in the second.

Speaker 7

Half given away by a yellow Carney's to be very careful. Navajo knows it. It needs to be more professional than that. Think he's asking it for the yellow car. He knows Yemas on one went down a little bit too easily, like he did for that yellow carn Actually.

Speaker 13

When Yemar put his arm up in the air to protect himself.

Speaker 27

Went down, Yama should have never been on the yellow and yea and oh you got to focus on trying to just get to the gold. I think he's looking for the foul, trying to bait name what into the foul. Yaima into the foul and it wasn't. A referee made a good decision there. But I think you'll see both teams maybe a bit more emphasis and urgency in the attacking sense. I think there was some decent play that both cultures can maybe say, yeah, I like what I've

seen there, but not enough shots on target. Goalkeepers haven't been tested enough at all, and so I think not just as the home team, it's on the Rapids to really go for it, but the Sounders as well.

Speaker 13

Here's Mark Shop of the box, wins the ball, slots it good.

Speaker 32

Save by Stepan, follow up by Rossneck back and then it goes and the sound has taken early lead. Here at Commerce City against the Rapids.

Speaker 19

It was a.

Speaker 7

Deflected shot from Stephan's say, found the foot of Russneck and he rolls the ball in the back of the net for his tenth goal on the season.

Speaker 13

Two goals in two games for the Sounders, number eleven.

Speaker 7

They go up one nil and.

Speaker 27

It's a defensive mistake again by the Rappers, and Morris is so quick to pounce. He stood up very well by Zach Stephan there. But Rossnick doing what you're taught to do, which is following the play. He does it really well, keeps a shot hard and no I think he ends up going through Maxw's legs there and Zack Stephan's legs that I guess the deflection into the back of the net, but the Sounders won't care. Jordan would have wanted that one to go in, but russ Knack

he's running made. The two of them have been fantastic this season. If it's not one, it's the other, and the sound is take well. I would say at this point for the away team is a deservedly. I think they've played really well, haven't been as dangerous. It could have been a final third, but already three minutes into the second half, the Sounders find a way to break through.

Speaker 7

Big goal for Russneck continues to elevate himself up the rankings of Sounders all time goal contributions on a season With that one, I believe he ties Clint Demsee for number two.

Speaker 13

Ober Flemi Martin sits at thirty.

Speaker 7

That puts Rouznek at twenty five, ten goals, fifteen assists on his year.

Speaker 13

What great time to score it, especially the way the results.

Speaker 7

Have gone around the league so far. We'll get you that in a minute. As the ball comes off Max Who's hand, the referee now it's just gonna hold things up. He obviously came up Max Who's hand as he went down to challenge the ball as Vargas trying to clip it down the line. I think it was for Jordan Morris who made the run. Nothing more given by the referee than a free kick, no yellow card. So see get let's get some of the standings here. So LFC

go in to Sporting Kansas City. They kind of have that tail between their legs already out of the playoffs, of course, lost in the US Open Cup final.

Speaker 13

LFC go in there, win three nil. That elevates them to fifty eight points.

Speaker 7

The Sounders can't get into second place today, but with a win tonight then it clarifies their position as home field advantage because it separates them away from hust who on fifty one points, Sanders currently sitting in fifty six points, celt Lake at fifty four. So the win tonight now it does give them home field advantage. And it's just just about now see about which position they get a Landy huge and.

Speaker 27

I think if you can, if you can secure that in that three game series, give yourself two of them.

Speaker 7

His Harris shot just wide, Willig goalkick Sanders remains one. Ny'll finish your thoughts, so they give yourself two of them. At home, that this potential deciding third game will be at home. I think that's a massive for the Sanders, who've been a very good home team. But it's been We talked to Schmetz this morning and kind of it's been sort of like nationally, at least from what I've seen, I don't think that Sunder's going to creditly have for

a really good season. Yes we can say record wise have been right down par of Miami, but I love the press that you know, LAFC get or the Galaxy get for the season there have you. The Sanders has gone quietly under the raider, even after saying Albert russk like there's ten goals and for fenissists, I mean, in any of the year, you're in some serious conversations for a lot of even league awards.

Speaker 27

Maybe not the front runner, but this he's put together. You don't really see the Sounders talked about in that way. And I think at least here we know inside the locker room the confidence is there, and if you can suck your home for the advantage, no seam wants to have to come and try to win at Lumen in a third game deciding going the playoff series.

Speaker 7

As they mentioned, the Sounders are one point ahead of Miami if the last fifteen games Sounds on thirty five, Miami on thirty four. They get a win today to solidify their Supporter Shield championship one nil in Toronto. Sounders now will be thirty eight points out of last sixteen games. So remarkable turnaround based on the start they had. And I think see if we talked about it are fair.

It's just a message of consistent messaging, consistent process. And if there's any good example of being patient with the process and the players that you've got on hand, it's the way the Sounds have turned the season around.

Speaker 26

It is and another great courting job.

Speaker 27

And I won't just single out branch message there because you'll point to be staff as well. The job they've done together year after year to always be one of the very top teams in the West. It is truly remarkable. It's impressive. And I think you know he doesn't always get the credit he deserves as well. Bran Schmidson, and I think you have to just say, you know, this

rusted up. It's been beating up at times as miss players has known his best eleven up until now, and to get what you've got from this group with any major signings.

Speaker 26

I think it is pretty impressive.

Speaker 1

He really is.

Speaker 7

He's maximized what this group can do. And you look at Rosneck.

Speaker 13

You mentioned Jordan Morris on thirteen goals career year for him his.

Speaker 7

Highest before that.

Speaker 26

Who would have thought rough for five goals on the year, that's great culture.

Speaker 7

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and some goals in League's Cup and US Open Cup as well. I mean he starts pushing him to his eight goals on the year, five goals in regular season with a couple of assists. Here's Lewis now in Colorado, trying to find himselves back in the game. Strike just wide. Fry was rooted to the spot. Look to his left. It went narrowly wide for Mac Sue stepped up from his central defensive position, slices the ball wise, it's gonna be a goalkick for Sounders to remain rapids nil.

Sounders won. This score update is presented by Mikaelo Bulche. But Steve narrowly wide four rapids.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

In decent response by the Rappers.

Speaker 27

Actually, since going behind, they've had the ball in the sound As half almost exclusively and for the sound I just want to relive that pressure. Maybe a couple of balls over the top ass to run Jordan Morris, to run something he did really well in the first half.

Speaker 7

Here's Jordan Morris. Stefan reads the game well as you'd expect to play over his caliber to do, clears his lines. It's going to be a throwing just through the Sounders bench. Ranch Mets are just telling his team calm down.

Speaker 26

Just thought Alex walked to everything.

Speaker 13

Take this thing out again. This is time management.

Speaker 7

Third game in a week, and right now the Sounders are going to be sitting on their third clean sheet in a row. Three wins, three clean sheets, and the other two wins before that tie against San Jose were clean sheets as well. So defense wins championships. To know that Adage and Sounders certainly is showing what the benefit of strong defense is and the results they're picking up now.

As Jackson Reagan rolls it back to Stefan, Fry is just gonna launch it along exactly what you'd expect him to do as he oxy it out of bounds as well, just like Stephan did a moment or so ago. So Steve, let me ask this, let me get to the bench and the I'm gonna ask you a question about Brian Schmetzer's strategy here. So the bench for the sound is Nathan jp back on the bench after a couple of weeks out with an injury. That's good return for the

Sounders and Brian Schmetze. He sits on the bench with a tens Yo Bell Mussovski, read Baker Whiting, Andrew Thomas, Danny Laver who played nineteen games by the way for the Rapids last year, and then Georgie Menungo goal against Vancouver's Can come off the bench as well. You'd expect to see him. You get your thoughts in a second as Bor goes to the outside to Rothrock with his left foot whipsl on the six, just bounces through past Jordan Morris whisker away from his toe inside the six.

Bob bounced through another great delivery, firm Rothrock on that left hand side. It's gonna be a goal. Kip remains one nil Sounders, but again Steve zach Corney, the Sounders in transition are really causing problems.

Speaker 26

Really good attack.

Speaker 27

Christians involved, Albert's involved, Pesles involved, and everyone there did everything great. Jordan ran hard Porter rough Rock put a board in the era you should because the timing was a little bit off there, but another very good attap by the sound has been very good in the wide areas today really have been.

Speaker 7

So here's my question. You've got Yamar on a yellow card. You've got one game coming up. You know, you know Colorado are going to be coming and pushing Navar, who's already looking to try and get that second yellow one Yema Brian Schmidtz to protect him, maybe pull him off. He got Nathan You've got Jonathan Bell that could come in and slide in the defensive center back position along Jackson.

Speaker 27

Yeah, I would be surprised if we don't see that change in the next ten, ten to fifteen minutes here. But maybe it's a case of he'll trust Jaim. It's a bit to not make that tackle. Say hey, you know you've got a yellow, but once you to see the game out, don't make that tackle. I don't want to make any defensive changes because you know coach is a bit more reluctant to make change that the back, especially when you're trying to maybe get a third clean sheet.

Speaker 1

And to your point about the clean shees.

Speaker 27

I think for the Sounders, you've played all playoff teams and two of them on the roll because it's very impressive.

Speaker 7

They come from the Rappers on the right hand side, deep cross with Rosenbery blocks out off knew who as he comes back to defend ball into Harris around the corner to Navar who tries to pull around them. Yima just holds up, just like Steve Zacquani mentioned using his experience. The ball gets clipped to the back post, collected well by Fry. I think it's see who that is. That's Alex s rolled on gets clattered into on the back stick, maybe by Jonathan Lewis, referee from Ford asking the medical

staff to come on. Remember when the medical staff come on, unless it's a concussion type of situation or a yellow card, the player would have to come off for two minutes. But in this case, he did get hit in the back of the head, so it's more like they could be a check on a concussion And you see the replay here, Steve, it was Lewis that went in and just oh hunched him in the back of her head.

Speaker 26

Yeah, that's a strong that's a strong hit.

Speaker 27

There couldn't tell first if kind of with more into his back, but no right into his head, and his brother Christian right away alerting the referee to that. So yeah, there was some concern, but Alex seems to be okay. He's good. Yeah, treated by the medical staff. He's on his feet, and nothing intentional by Lewis at all. He's going for the ball boards in the air, you know, but there definitely was a lot of contact on that.

Speaker 7

Yeah, Let's remember when Alex Roldan picked up a concussion in the first few seconds of a game earlier in the season, put him out for a concussion protocol. Then his brother of course last season had two instances where he had to miss time because of concussion and recurring symptoms. But good news for the Sounders as we see Alex Roldan walk off, just gonna take a moment, I'm sure,

just to check things out. Brian Schwetze, just patrolling his technical area you mentioned, we expect to see Mnungo on certainly deserving of it.

Speaker 13

Albert Rosneck spoke to the press yesterday, spoke to the.

Speaker 7

Fact that he thought Georgie's performance was the best of the Sounders against Vancouver and Steve you know, you're by far the best winger in Sounder's history, one of the Georgia Mnungoe is probably one of the only out and out true wingers that you could even compare to the way that you played similar styles.

Speaker 1

Absolutely, he's electric. He's electric.

Speaker 27

And you know, I went down to the pitch after the win against Suston and had no I thought he played really well. So I had a very brief convo with him and just kind of you know, every time I bumped into him. You know, is such a infectious personality, a joy for the game and watching that game when I watched and listen to you on Brad on the broadcast.

Speaker 7

That comes with Haalovich clicks up in the air, Harris picks it up inside the box. Good covering by obit of August coming back to do his defensive duties. Can't do anything more than knock it over the end line. It's gonna be a corner kick for Colorado. So a chance from set pieces, and they are a team that have been very dangerous this year most goals scored from set pieces MLS. There's gonna be Ahilovich's good a jog over and take it from their right hand side.

Speaker 26

Yeah, he normally puts on a good service. He do's beheliver.

Speaker 27

So sounders a defended world so far this evening at least from any set piece situations that the Rapids have had. But as the game goes on, these become bigger and bigger, and so the sound has got to stand strong here and not give away any chief silly goals, thick with your runners, crowd.

Speaker 7

Behind their team. Bor gets whipped in, headed up and away by Jackson Reagan. Referee was to whistle to his mouth calling a fowl inside the eighteen yard boxing on navajo of Harris. They were both going up to challenge Jackson Reagan, who won his aeriel battler as he expects him to do at six foot five. And even Bryan Schmizer talked about Jackson kind of how does he kick on from last year where he really came on the scene. Here and Yema have the second that the tie best

goals against average in MLS. Now they are leading MLS with goals against average with thirty four. And he was about his heading even six foot five is just his dominance in the air, both offensively and even defensively as well.

Speaker 27

Yeah, and he's he's come out and said that's an error. He wants to improve his role and just yeah, you want to be a dominant defensive force. Of course, the benchmark and especially here in Seattle, will always look at Chad Marshall.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 27

He was someone who almost every set piece, every goal kicks that the bulls attracted to, the bull found him. It seemed like he was always there first. And I think for Jackson Reagan that's the next step. Be that imposing figure where we know every defensive set piece, every offensive stet piece, you're going to be in and around the action every.

Speaker 1

Chance of bears.

Speaker 7

Rothrock again that left hand side been a constant threat, continues to play at a high level, consistent, high level.

Speaker 13

That's what you want from young players. There's some consistency.

Speaker 7

We know that Brian Schmetz looks to that on his players, and it's kind of a yo yo effect in performances. It's not what a coach like Brian likes to see. And so far Rothwro continues to play at that high level. Sounders are playing at that level as well as a team. In these last sixteen games. This is the sixteenth game where they could pick up their twelfth win and only

two ties in that run most points in MLS. As we mentioned as a referee, wait for the advantage picked up well by Vargas, plays into Jordan Morris just turns out a pressure well done, a good job so far. Jordan Morris of course got through on that goal. Wasn't able to slot it past Stepan, but it was a deflected Stephan save that found the foot of Rosneck, who was able to slide it in the goal. Sounders leading one nill here in the sixty first minute, Commerce City, Colorado.

Of course, the altitude mar high, of course, can have an effect on players. So far, so good for the Sounders. Here comes Dellavega towards the end, like did you get there? It just skipped off the damn surface over the end line. It's gonna be a goalkick for Zach Stepan and Colorado.

But Brian Schwetz will be extremely happy Steve. In the manner in which the Sounders came out in the second half, they got their early goal, They've absorbed a little bit of pressure, but they still continue to dominate possession with sixty percent.

Speaker 27

Yeah, and I think the initial wave of attacks following that goal from the Reperds. They weren't the most dangerous, they were sort of let it were probe and problem, and the Sounders stood strong. And now the tide beginning to shift back to a more even game, which the Sounders want to see.

Speaker 1

And just I am critousy. Third game in a.

Speaker 27

Week, Yes, you'd have a couple of weeks off, so maybe he doesn't go through his bench as much as you would normally if you had another game next weekend. But you also do want to have as many of you guys fit and ready to go into the playoffs as you can. And I can't think of a better opportunity you're gonna get than this game. The Timbers game won't be that kind of game. That game is gonna be all out trying to win, and it's really your

last dress trust before the playoffs. But today you're wonder what how many guys you trust to come in and help you close this game?

Speaker 7

Defending by new who as he slides and cuts that ball down the line out it's gonna be thrown for Colorado eighteen yards or so from the end line, and it's gonna be a change.

Speaker 21

Made.

Speaker 7

But as that happens, it's gonna be a couple of changes for Colorado Cannon the number four player coming in from QPR just this month, last month, and it's gonna be Fernandez who started the last couple of games on that high left hand side. So it's gonna be Sam Vines that comes off. It's gonna be a lightful like switch likely for Canon for Vines. And then Lewis comes off the number seven that classed into Alex roll Dan again light for like switch with Amir Fernandez, who's gonna

slide up on that outside left position. Sounders now gonna have to just face this throw in. Rosenberry no likes to play a little bit long. Here he comes. Ball gets thrown into the box, headed up and away by Christian roll down, Ball bounced at the foot of Lorez, picked up by the sounders and obed Vargas, who just skips by the clips it down the line, cut out by the wrappers, picks up by Rosnick. We every on the touch.

Speaker 13

Can he get there?

Speaker 1

He can?

Speaker 7

Cuts away from Ronan the irishman all goes in, splits the linders rolled on. Now he finds his brother Alex tucked way into the middle of the park from his right back spot. Just Rothrup holds his run, comes back from an offside position, collects it far side the left comes back to Russneck started the attack as he moved the ball forward his gaimer on his right hand side, rolls it out to Alex Road on time and space. Can he turn right corner of the box, the Levega

to his right. He gets it five yards from the end line, drops his shoulder, clips it in along the front of the six yard box, eventually cleared and bounces through.

Speaker 13

Fernanders can't save it. It's going to be a thrown for the Sounders.

Speaker 7

Well, Sounders fans, even the greatest athletes make sure to take the time to catch up with their friends over a michelob Ultra, because they know that joy is the whole game, not the end game. Mikeelob Ultra. It's only worth it if you enjoy it, law and behold. On the sixty fourth minute, Pedro de la Vega gets Paul Georgie Munungo comes on for the Sounders, so you'd expect de Levega to be a little bit disappointed not getting a few more minutes. I think it's been decently solid today.

It's been the danger on that right hand side. Steeve played a.

Speaker 13

Couple of good balls in and we'll get to your thoughts in a second.

Speaker 7

As the sounders have it with Manunga de la Vega ask him for the throw, still supporting his teammates, even walking and trudging back to the bench. But what do you make of Dela Vega's performance tonight?

Speaker 1

I think he played well.

Speaker 26

You played well.

Speaker 27

He showed really well the moment he was involved, put at these two really really good crosses into the box.

Speaker 26

His touch was good.

Speaker 27

I think he's balanced between when to stay wide when to come inside. It improved as the game went on as well. It was a very good outlet on the right hand side.

Speaker 1

One knew you to be.

Speaker 26

But I'm with you. I think he would have wanted to play a bit more today.

Speaker 27

I think he was a game where he maybe felts a goal out there and at least an assist for him, and yeah, you're gonna get a couple of weeks off before you have to play again, so I think he would have been disappointed. But it's tough to say that Georgie has earned some minutes. How well he played on Wednesday.

Speaker 7

Night, yellow card for Jackson Reagan's he made have found in the middle department. Not a bad foul to give. As Colorado managed to skip through Jackson Reagan's initial challenge pulled him down a professional foul gets the yellow carter. Now the Sounders two center backs are both on a yellow card. It's gonna be a little bit careful. You don't want the Sounders backline to be changed for that all important Portland Timbers game in a couple of weeks.

Wino Navajo has already been to play the game. Here try and get a yellow card as Canon gets his first meaningful touch on his left hand side to skip by Roldander's Ronan rolls out to Cannon to Fernandez well. Sound As f C Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Here in the sixty sixth minute, the Rapids nil Sounders one of a goal

from Rosnek. His tenth goal of the year is twenty fifth goal contribution of twenty twenty four record for the Sounders midfield players.

Speaker 13

The ball comes in.

Speaker 7

Cleared by Jackson Reagan. It was Harris that cut in on his left foot. Just try to find Navajo cleared by the Sounders backline. But it's gonna be a thrown again for Rosenberry, ten yards or so from the corner flag on their right hand side, the far side the right. He's gonna wind this one up, is Rosenberry captain for the Rapids. Gonna be a long throw comes in towards the top of the six Good headed by Jackson. Reagan be dominant in the air tonight, but the ball finds

Rosenberry again down to low. Rouse has been all over the place in that central midfield spot just cuts by Nuhu and then Rothrock will cut by Ronan back into

Rosenberry clips the ball into the box. Ball finds the foot of Masu and then Harris, all blocked by the sound is cleared well by Rosne Cushion headed by a buba cart finds Ronan far side there, rapids right and cuts in past Rothrock goes square top of the box to my Hilovich first to turn the corner, finds Max too advanced from his centerback spot, goes to Ronan, Good defending again by Nue just smashes the ground.

Speaker 13

You can hear that scream from here, But.

Speaker 27

That whole sequence there is why which looking at potentially free clean sheets in a row, I mean, really good defending. The rapids kept coming trying to probe, couldn't find a way through, couldn't find a way to get a shot off.

Speaker 26

Any cross that came in was blocked.

Speaker 27

Guys are sacrificing their bodies diving at the ball, and that's where it takes at this stage of the season. Can you get into October pushing towards November. You need guys that are going to be able to sacrifice their bodies and defend him that way. And as a unit, it sounds there were so tough to break down the rappers having a very difficult time for you to run to play.

Speaker 13

The rappers faithful, up on their feet.

Speaker 7

Ball comes in Outswinger headed up and away again by Reagan. Three headers in a row. He's managed to clear his lines. Here's Georgie. Now can he try and break the line? He's not good defending by Fernandez the sub because his defensive duties comes inside. Is my Hilovitch flipped down towards the end Line's Rosenberry towards Navajo clid Well by Yamar sounds just hanging on right now.

Speaker 13

Sef and Fry hasn't had to do too much in goals.

Speaker 7

The Sounders backline that are cutting the entry balls out from the Rapids. So far, so good for the men in green, but backs against the wall gotta stay strong then don't break. It's gonna be a thrown for Rapids on their right hand side. It's most likely going to be Rosenberry as he goes over yet winds it up.

Speaker 13

Referee just pulls it back. Just referee tim Ford.

Speaker 7

Holding things up, which is gonna potential VR check not sure if that was something on that entry ball and Yamar coming in again, this would be referee getting involved there and nothing given. Rosenberry does it again, it's gonna launch it up in the night sky. Easy for Cephro and Fry comes and collects at top of his six yard box allow potentially his back line just to move up. Rolls it out to this near side the right to Alex rolled On. Good performance so far from the Sounders

right back. It was back to Yama to rolled on. He's gonna whip it into Georgie. Good play by Georgie, who was a earl threat against Vancouver. Both shot the left midfielder and blackmen the left center back were in yellow cards. So the game went on. He got more more joy as the Vancouver back line had to back off him and he was able to drop his shoulder drive forward off side by the system referee given it was a switch of play from the right hand side

to the far side. The sounders left roth Rock just inched off side and that Steve will drive. You're a left ringer. What would Ziggi Schmidt say to you if you saw the entire line and you went off side?

Speaker 26

He would lose his mind.

Speaker 27

And that was always if you're looking across the line, then you cannot be off side, and you just cannot. And from your lone if you're looking across the line that far Yeam was winding up, the wrappers have drops off, the ball's gonna be played. You've got to look across the line there and know you're gonna be off side. And just another point on I think what makes him so unique is is how relentlessness he's driving at you every single time he gets the ball.

Speaker 7

There's Vargas top of the box, left foot, little scuff shot blocked by Colorado, and there's Yamar ambitious from thirty yards out inside of the fir trying to guide into the top corner.

Speaker 1

Benchway.

Speaker 7

Think it's explained to new of course, I'm gonna shoot, you shoot in this distance, you know, the one thing you love as a coach. I imagine, yes, you can have a chuckle, your one nill up and your solidified playoff spot. You're fighting for home field advantage, but the players having fun. Yeah, that's the biggest thing. Right You've got a center back who's was on the Team of

the Match day against Houston for his performance defensively. Stepping up and hitting a thirty yard shot shows the confidence of the team right now and the way they're playing. And as Brian Schwetz has mentioned in the press and even to us in our production meeting, nobody wants to play the Sounders now in the playoffs, much as the Sounders and we all are looking at the standings.

Speaker 13

And how this is all gonna work out.

Speaker 7

I imagine every team sitting around the Sounders right now is thinking, eh, maybe you want to be seventh not sixth.

Speaker 27

Yeah, exactly, And especially if the Sounders do lock up that home field sort of advantage there, you don't want to get a Sounder as that sort of advances a team that's had so much the experience that comes into it. So many guys on the pitch right now in this squad have success and history in winning major trophies with this club, with this coach, and so I think for the sound As it bodes well and you start to find your best form towards this time of the season.

Speaker 1

We've seen this script before.

Speaker 27

You want to be one of the hottest teams going into the playouts, and the Sounders currently are.

Speaker 6

Yeah.

Speaker 7

Of course, going back to twenty sixteen when the Sounders were in deep dark times when Siggy Schmidt left the club and Brian Schmitzer came in. The first game actually was against La Galaxy. Remember that's when Brian shifted to a four to two three one Valdez up front. You can't get the winner out, Believe there's a tiny that day, but started off the Schweitzer campaign and good solid form and then of course from that point forward, the Sounders went on a tear, winning the MLS Cup, the first

MLS Cup for the Sounders that year. In Brian Schmetz's first year when remember I think he was still a temporary interim coach at the time right. So you know, Sounders and Brian Schmittz have been joined at the hips since the early nineteen eighties and chance for I, of course, can give some stories. I'm sure that Brian played many years together. Both grew up in the area, both of the same era. Become the Sounders in possession, attacking half

of the field. Just the rap is now one was giving up no pressure on the ball, knew who was able to put the foot on the ball eighteen yards from the end line, left channel, no pressure. Lorez now comes finds roth Rock Rosenberry backs off for the Rapids. They got there. See, they got their win two nil just a couple of weeks ago, gets Toronto, that solidified

their playoff spot. And then they've gone on and lost the last two was three nail against Minnesota after clinching the playoffs, and lost three one against the LA Galaxy. So you know, certainly kind of dropped off the boil once they got that playoff spot. The ball comes in, Georgia gets bundled over. But is it a team that kind of just you play at such a high level, such intensity. As soon as you make the playoffs, there's that five percent of a lull.

Speaker 26

And I think that's what's happened.

Speaker 27

I think if actally a team who didn't achieve last year big changes came there was probably so hell bent on just gettingto the playoffs. They've done it. Take your foot off the gas a little bit, and they're really good teams. Don't allow that. They're really good teams. They

do that and they they kick on. I mean, if you look at the very best teams in the world, Man City, the Liverpool's, when they go on a run, they go on to run, and I think for the Rapids that's the step that they need to watch because at home they've been good, but this could be at home defeat. The Galaxy came in here and beat them as well. And those are the sorts of teams you're gonna face in the playoffs. There's teams at this level, teams that know how to win. And Chris Thomas has

to get his group. Maybe the experience isn't quite there, so it's gonna have to come from him sort of that how of don't wrestle the Laurels, don't settle.

Speaker 26

Every time you achieve a goal, a small versions to tick on and do more. You haven't arrived yet.

Speaker 7

Branch met So he's obviously been there, done that, and certainly there's certainly a coach. It's all about it's only about the last game, not looking at reputations, about looking what can you do for me?

Speaker 33

Now?

Speaker 7

Is new who goes into the back of Harris fell On knew who he's a sly grin as he looks across to the referee in the middle of the field, Decktown old pink can't miss him. Well, Let's corporated audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer.

Speaker 13

Yet here in the seventy to fifth minute, fifteen minutes left of.

Speaker 7

Regular time Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM Dick Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colorado Sounders, looking for their fifth win out of six, their fifth clean sheet out of six. The ball gets launched long by roll down. As you mentioned, results have been going on around the Western Conference. Sport Saint Louis City out of the playoffs, top of the Western Conference last year. They win three nil against Houston Dynamits. That was a good result for

the Sounders for sure. Sounders retained this one nill lead. They will solidify home field advantage for the playoffs. As Jackson felt his outline that's the best of three ninety minutes per game has to be a winner, so if it's tied, it will go to penalties. Sounders did that work against Dallas last year, won their two home games, lost the away game, and then they moved on from there.

So it's born in Kansas City nil LAFC three, So that elevates l EFC up the standing still two points clear of the Sounders, so still ought to play for next week or two weeks time and decision day. LFC do have a game in hand, so we'll see what happens in that game in hand. And here comes Rothrock in transition, just like he did against Vancouver, Jordan Morris holding his run in front of Masu. Rothrock goes in the box, plays the ball brilliantly to Jordan Morris and

he misses again from inside the six yard box. It was on a plate for him. He just had to guide it into the empty net. He was stretching, but it was Rothrock could just slid it in. It was on side from advantage point.

Speaker 27

He just didn't get his steps right because I think I thought he was really stretching, But having seen the replay, the way on the pass.

Speaker 26

Is actually perfect from rough Rock.

Speaker 1

He hits it right in front of him.

Speaker 27

Nothing Jordan's stride just did a line up of the ball because in the end he has took a couple of quick steps. Then he ends up stretching for the ball, doesn't get a good contact and it flies wide. It should have been to no, it should have been to know what a counter attack. Great play by Rothrock. Then he did anything great delayed delayed way to Jordan was on side, plays a great ball across the six yard box and if Jordan Morris has stride and he's in timing there, it's a tapping.

Speaker 26

What a chance.

Speaker 7

He's had a few of those chances in the last couple of weeks, way slid in the last couple of games, has had chances inside the six yard but just to guide the ball in the back of the net. Just hasn't been clinical in and around the goal the last couple of weeks. But of course, career year for Jordan Morris thirteen goals and also for Jordan Morris sounds certainly would not be where they are right now, we are foul given. Rothrock just can't believe it's system referee right

there in front of him. As the foul is given by the referee, it's going to be a chance for Colorado to put another dangerous ball in deep in the Sounders half of the field and the Rapids right hand side. The Sounds fans, if sound As FC scores anytime after the eighteenth minute during your home match, you'll have the chance to win free Lasik surgery from Sharp Vision, Modern

lasic and lens. Sign up today at Sounders fc dot com slash laser focus to change for the Rapids, Calvin Harris goes off, sir at Beans comes on Young attacking pl we a lightful like switch. The Rappers looked to try and find the equalizing goal. Sounders leading one nill seventy eight minutes gone here, but now they have to defend this free kick. Ball comes in from a highlevitch headed away by Yam. Are good defending by Yam as he clips the ball away and it's going to roll

out in this near side. The wrap is left as they attack the goal to our left. Sounders in their anniversary kit green shirts, blue shorts, white socks continue to hold strong Stephan Fry as much pressure as Colorado has had. Really in the last fifteen minutes or so, Stephan Fry really hasn't been called into action. In the story of the Sounders last month or two. Defensively, we are thrown for Rapids, balling quickly to Ronan. Jordan Moore is coming

back to help. Defensively, flicks the ball inside, clip around by Navajo, slice wide by Lourez. See punches the air in frustration. It's gonna be a goal kick for the Sounders. Here in the seventy ninth minute, Rapids Nils Sounder is one see e'zac quannic.

Speaker 27

And that's what we disappoint Chris Armison lot is they have not tested Steph and Fray nearly enough. I told this afternoon only a couple of shots on target and those were tame at best. And so for the Sounders continue to do what you've done defensively, been really really good.

Is how championships are. One you know, you build from the back and you're very hard to be and then you get a couple of match when it's the other side of the field, anything can happen and so we're seeing that formula begin to play out again for the Sounders. Of course, still about twelve minutes to go here, plus what we'll get for at the time, it's not over, and the second goal would be nice to solidify it.

But this is the Sounder team, at least defensively, who've been in really, really good form.

Speaker 7

Sounders, if they hold this result, the eight wins on the road, they'll tie the best record away record in terms of wins in the Western Conference, they'll tie Houston and Minnesota. Of course, the last game of the season for the Sounders is at home in front of the Sounders faithful, and we'll thank as always the Sounders fans who have traveled here. You can spot the green shirts dotted around amongst the burgundy. Robert Vargas continues to have

a solid game alongside of Roll Dna. Be interesting to see GP's on the bench. Likely won't get introduced today. I'm sure Brian will want that extra two weeks just to make sure he's fully ready to go. And as I say that, I look down and he's actually about to take off his pennies. So see that's why I'm in here and Brian's down there, here's Alex rolled one ball in his hands, gonna sound and just see out these final ten minutes or so plus whatever the referee

is going to add is big Georgie manongo. I mean he could see the shirt pull from here as canon got turned by Georgie us an absolute rock. I think it was that Brad Evans and you were saying in your podcast, these thighs are like tree trunks. Yeah, he's a big lad, and let's not forget you know, the challenge he's had independent of his background and coming over here. Of course his father mentioned has passed, but you know the suffering he had with his eyesight, he continues to

suffer with that. But just an incredible personality and incredible character, and he's delivering the results as well.

Speaker 27

He loves the game, very infectious personality, always smiling, always, you know, high five him guys and things like that. And you love having those kind of guys on your team. And then the way he plays plays have a lot of joy. The way he plays it brings people off their seat, it brings people together. He's an exciting player. You know, we're talking about the sort of the in sounder sort of MLS error He is a very unique in terms of his playing stuff. We haven't had that

kind of winger for a long time. A guy who gets the ball and wants to face you up every time and drive vetue and so he can be it for a very long time. He's a player you can have a very very long career Georgie. And he's pushing. He's pushing for minutes in meaningful games at this point, which is a testament to him.

Speaker 7

JP comes off the bench ends my coaching career as Reznach comes off the field. Where's that's put a good shift? And of course scored the goal. His tenth goal of the season continues to add statistics to his already career year. For Roznak, it was the year before he came here at RSL, he got eleven goals eleven assists in twenty twenty one. It was a bit of a slow year in twenty two when he had to fill in more as a defensive midfield player. Got three goals to assist.

Last year seven goals and all those goals were game winners. And this year gets his tenth goal of the year. Today, can that be a game winner for the Sounders as we get into the final nine minutes or so of the game. Ball switched by Ronan all the way out, so the Rapids right hand side to Rosenberry to Fernandez, ros It square to Connor Roanan thirty yards from goal

comes out to this near left hand side. We'll drop of the shoulder by Cannon mentioned just came in to the Rapids squad as a ball gets whipped in, picked up by Navajo Price to find defending by ex rolled On.

Speaker 13

I think as Stuart Baines, who found himself in.

Speaker 7

Behind the back four couldn't swivel and get the shot off, but he was rolled on and came back defended well, rolls into the hands of Fry.

Speaker 13

Remains Sounders one Rappids nil.

Speaker 27

And it's the first time they've really been able to break the Sounders down inside the box.

Speaker 7

Sounders just need to clear their lines. Fernandez has it towards the end line. Ball bounces up and around Fernander's asking for a hand ball, rolled On strikes it forward. Here comes Morris inside the attacking half of the field. Little cushion ball by Stephanie's. He came out of his box.

Clean things up. Rapids come again. Sounders looking a little leggy right now in the last five minutes, giving the ball away cheaply times like this way you needed JP to put his foot on the ball, managed the game with his experiences, knew who gets dragged down by Stuart Bains. Referee does give the foul we saw shirt pulled from here or referee just waited to split second absorbed what happened, made the call foul on the rapids free kick Sounders and they continue to leave nil.

Speaker 27

Yeah, he remains one of the best one v one shut down lockdown defenders and MLS knew who there. Even when you think you've beat him, He's really good at using his body to get back in front of you. And Indian Benz definitely pulls him down. It doesn't take much, but it's a found and a sound is large begins to face a little bit more pressure than to have the.

Speaker 1

Wrap is turnue in a dial up.

Speaker 7

In there's Navara, a little combination of Shirt Baines giving away inside the eighteen Yardboox sounders just need to connect passes, take this thing out of this game. Get here. In the final six minutes of regular time, they lead one nil, and this score update is presented by Providence Swedish. As I mentioned, the cut miss match of the season is coming up your seat. Sounders will take on Cascade the arrival Portland Timbers at home for Decision Day on Saturday,

October nineteenth at six pm Pacific. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on nine to fifty KGr AM and l RA thirteen sixty am. The Provident Swedish pre match show starts at five thirty. Sounders have it with JP True Alex rolled On tucked him from his right backspot, finds Vargas got clattered into referee eventually waits, So I think it was waiting for me the advantage on Rothrop, but Row was all alone up there.

Speaker 13

Sometimes they feel like the referee could have called a little bit earlier.

Speaker 7

It's a minute, mister fowl for the Sounders that will burn off some valuable seconds as they continue to look at a potential home field advantage with this win. So the Sounders currently, let's give you a quick live update. Elli Galax is sitting on sixty four points. If all results down, we'll get some of those results in just a moment. LAFC, with their win three nil win today, they go up to fifty eight Sounders. If they can retain this lead, they'll be at fifty six. Salt Lake

currently playing at fifty four. Houston already played three nil losers to Minnesota. They're on fifty one, so Q sit in fifth position. No way to catch the sound As. If they can retain this lead five minutes or so left of ninety, Sounders need to stand strong. It's been a little sloppy the last ten minutes or so, but steve three games in a week, you'd expect a little fatigue to set in, but Brian Schwetz is not making

the changes. He's keeping those guys out there knowing they've got two weeks off, but seeing it's kind of that playoff mentality to talk about you just gotta gwind out a result.

Speaker 26

Yeah, you want to see that one. It is a good test for him to see that.

Speaker 27

You know, three games against three teams who will be in the playoffs, and this is two of them away from home. Lots of travel day it has been for the Sounders. So if you can pick up a winner, this will be the most impressive of the three because normally it's that third game there you've won the two the playoffs has been assured. You fourth the guess and go a little bit. But we'll keep saying. It's an

experienced team, a team of a championship DNA. So many players in there have won big trophies for this club and you can see that. No, it hasn't always been vintage or amazing performances, but doing just enough right now. And when you're a team that is hard to score against, you just need one or two goals and you have match. When he's in Jordan Morris and Abbel Rosnak right now, it's a good recipe for success.

Speaker 7

YEP, Sounders currently leading one goal to the ball goes down good finging by Rolldn. Ball inside by Georgie finds Christian Rolldan. He's gonna absorb the pressure from Navajo and force the foul. But it doesn't need locks. The ball down the line. Here comes Georgie Rothrop making a slashing run.

Still got the energy, could Georgie play hi? Just gotta wait now it does go into Rothrop right hand side at the eighteen yard box, towards the end like cuts it back from Rosenberry and then just a miscommunication between Jordan and Paul Clarence by the Rapids picked up by Christian rolled On.

Speaker 1

Well.

Speaker 7

The winner Vancouver was the Sounder's ninetieth away wins since two thousand and nine. That's the most in MLS. We could get there ninety first today and what a week it would have been. It would be three clean sheets, three wins, nine solidifying home field advantage, solidifying the playoffs. And now we started to planning. The ball goes in behind, Stephan comes out. Can Rothrock get it? Does a smart thing, just pulls himself out, doesn't need to get injured at this part of the season.

Speaker 13

Sounds are gonna make some changes towards the end of this game.

Speaker 7

The first is gonna be the Rapids Luffles Sender's gonna come on the field. Just confirm the change for the Rapids or for the Sounders. It's gonna be Jordan Morris off gonna take a break, Mussovsky's gonna come on the field. Read Baker, Whiting's gonna come on. Paul Rothrock's gonna come off so light for light switches, Massofski will go up front, read Baker White and go on the left is sure Jordan Morris, Steve will be disappointed he wasn't able to

get on the score sheet again. It's been a couple of games.

Speaker 26

Now, yeah, I had some chances.

Speaker 27

You know, the striker, you just want to put yourself in those positions, beat in and around a mixed but he had a couple today half chances and the big one down the second half when Rougher paid across and end up stretching for him pushing the board away. He's gonna wander. You want to be in rhythm, We want we be finding a back at the there. Anytime you see the will hit it back in there. As a striker, he just continues to build your confidence, especially as we approach this part of the season.

Speaker 26

So yeah, he'll be a bit let down.

Speaker 27

But he's had such a great season and he played his role in the game here today the goal from Russna coming off his shot his rebound, so when you kind of get away from it, you can look at that and see to keep the context. But knowing Jordan, knowing how driven he is, how hungry is he would have wanted that one, especially the one.

Speaker 1

That rough rogainst him.

Speaker 7

Yeah, for rasnak Kra year for Jordan Morris this season so both players on the bench now the sounder is trying to see out this final minute and whatever the referee will add on, we'll discount tire. I get thirty percent sure to average weight time when you buy a book online at discount tire dot com. Get here in the final seconds of this game. Don't leave us. At the end of the game, Jackson felt, Chance Fry James

Riley will be back to break it all down. Hopefully for the sound It's will be a lot too breakdowns. So how can look look at the standings, see what the Sounders may play and O Jackson will break that down in detail. And AFC just sitting above them. Of course recent history gets LFC has not been good. But wouldn't the Sounders love to meet them in the playoffs and just get one over them at the most important time of the season. It comes to the Varrus Sounds

still have to see this one out. As they lead one nil. My Heidlovitch on his left foot strikes it comfortable say for Stephan Fry just gathers it in it falls to the ground. It's going to burn off some valuable seconds. And these are like the Houston game. These are the type of win Steve where you just got to grind it out. You've got to find a way to win in a difficult place, elevation, third game in a week. The sound has continued to put in solid performances.

Speaker 27

I think as a colt, these are the wins where you learn more about your team because you would have thought, you know, we when you watch you as sure of a playoff spot, we just thought about the Rappers were maybe they've taken their foot off the guess a bit, and the Sounders haven't done that, you know, I think, and one of the fingers there still is fights for competition for positions on his team, not knowing the very best at Evans a couple of areas there where guys

are still trying to show that they belong on a pitch as well. That keeps it fresh and you're on a good run. You want to keep that going. And this week in particular, you know, you plays a very good Houston team at home, then you go on the road for two games, and if you can leave there with two wins back to back, I mean, it is pretty impressive.

Speaker 7

Four minutes at and a time, one minute already gone. As Redbaker Whiting dribbles the ball into the corner, gets challenged by Luffles. Send tries to hold the ball in the corner as for the corner kick, celebrates the corner kick, and then the referee just takes all that excitement out of him and gives the goal kick. They here three minutes to go, of four minutes. Branch Twest just encouraging his team as the Sounders continue to come back and help.

Now it's going to be Danny Massovski. Roldan pulls out the challenge when Navarro Trost knock it around. His brother Christian Read goes in, makes the challenge, holds up the Colorado attacks. The ball goes into the foot of Mihailovich. Hasn't been as influential in this game as he has been in games past. Big year on from the Highlevich this year the boy gets floating into the back stick clipped in towards the back post. Fernandez goes down. Nothing

given by the referee. Was quite acrobatic in terms of his jump forward. The smallest of nudges. Referee doesn't give anything. Two minutes to go here, Sounders lead one nil. Good play by JP gets clattered into He's going to hold his leg hopefully nothing two seriously coming back from Injiby. Here comes Georgie Miningo striding forward to buber Car comes across Wassovski holding his run. Georgia can go solid. Did he drop his shoulder? He's going to go into the corner,

takes a strike, just slices it wide. Robert Vargas just drops his shoulder. I think Georgie's gonna learn there. There was no chances going to the corner flag. There was no chance.

Speaker 26

I'm watching the play development.

Speaker 27

I just go to the corner. Waste, waste a minute there was. His mind was made up, and they'll talk to him because I think in that situation, this is a game management game, cuational awareness. You just go to the corner because now you give the wall back to the rap. Is this to have ninety seconds? If that's a playoff game and it's all on the line, you can't be taking a shot there. I don't mind it being direct, but take that to the corner flag away some valuable.

Speaker 7

Minutes or comes across to Connor own and it's a shifted from the middle to this left hand side, challenged by Alex Roldan comes on to his preferred right foot over up and run by Cannon, easily cleared the top of the box by Christian, rolled on under the solid performance by Christian alongside oh Bed continue to be both the starting point of every sounder's attack and then of

course there's the protection from that back four. We can talk about clean sheets in the back four, but it starts, as Brian Schmitzer says, from the forward back, and that's Jordan Morris continues to provide helpers. Missosk gets clattered into can he get up now? Ki Masovski drive into the corner, chased down by Roseenbary who pretty much gives up on it. Forty seconds or so to go of the four minutes,

then just given away by Missovsky. Brian Schmittz is gonna go absolutely bananas on that one, just needlessly given away by Mssovsky. Did the hard work, he got down the line.

Speaker 27

Yeah, just go away and keep it going. He could keep going, keep going, made them take it off. You give it back to them, man. Yeah, time is running out here, but the sound is doing their best to give the rappers as many opportunities as they can to go work into the.

Speaker 7

Thirty seconds to go, Sounders leading one nill here in Colorado. Can they see this one out and secure home field advantage and need that three points. Here's Fernandez skips it in and Boll bounces around over the topic goes that should be that on the Sounders as you've been in that position before. See if they know this is it ye Seth and Fry will take his time with the goalkick, and upon that goal kick, the whistle should go and the Sounders should get three points.

Speaker 26

Yeah, that's the win right there.

Speaker 27

But the lessons in there because if this is on target when you're back of the there, that's exactly why Musovski and also Georgie that's why he goes to the corner because you avoid those kinds of situations there.

Speaker 1

The Rappers in the end, they don't finish it.

Speaker 27

When you're giving a team a chance at a ninety fourth minute in a game that should have been over.

Speaker 26

I'm long before them.

Speaker 7

Sounder's dominated possession in the first half. It's been much more even throughout the game now as Colorado has really had the line's share of posies in the back half of this second half.

Speaker 13

It's a referee's gonna let things tick by. It's thirty seconds go.

Speaker 7

I'm not sure what additional extra time it is going to knock it down the lines. Christian world On does the right thing, It's gonna skip through it.

Speaker 13

There's the referees whistle.

Speaker 7

The Sounders come into Colorado and always tough places to play, and they come away with three points, their third winner of the week, their third clean sheet of the week, and they solidified home field advantage in the playoffs and they go into the Portland Timbers with all to play for. Steve Zacquanni, your final thoughts.

Speaker 26

Impressive, very very impressive. What branch mess in this team.

Speaker 27

I have been able to do in the past fifteen to sixteen games, but this week in particular sums up this team. Finding ways to win in three different games against free playoff bound teams.

Speaker 1

And you know, the third game of a long week, back to.

Speaker 27

Back away games, going to Canada, coming back, going over there to Colorado and finding a way to win this game where maybe you're not at your best. I think it shows with three clean sheet as well. Absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 13

Well, let's just get you a quick summary.

Speaker 7

I'm sure Jackson Feltz and the boys will break it all down, But let's just give you a quick summary of what's happened there the Galaxy. You're currently leading one nil. They're at sixty four points in first place in the Western Conference. LFC got a win today three nil. They're at fifty eight points the Sounders and third place fifty six points, Salt Lake fifty four points.

Speaker 13

So the Sounders have solidified home field advantage.

Speaker 7

The question now is is it going to be second place, third place or fourth place. L EFC do have a game in hand, they'll play that between now and decision Day.

Speaker 13

So for the Sounders, they did their work.

Speaker 7

They did their business here at Colorado. Well, thanks for everyone involved in today's broadcast. Anders Hearst on the board, Keeley Dunning, Ryan Kahnes, Kevin Kay and of course the Sounders legend Steve zach Quari. We'll see you back here in two weeks when your Sounders face their arch rival, the Portland Timbers at lumen Field on Decision Day with so much on the line, make sure to be there, don't miss it and support the team.

Speaker 13

But for now we'll take a short break.

Speaker 7

Jackson Felts, Chance Freud, James Riley will be back to break it all down from Dick Sporting Goods Park in Commer City, Colorado. The sound has come away with a huge win. Is the rapids Noel sound is one.

Speaker 1

It is a final from Colorado down in Commerce City. Your Sounders are coming home with another dub and what a week it has been. Let's go over this. Eight days, three wins, three shutouts to Paul rothrock goals to Albert roosnat goals won Georgia mcnoon google goal his first career and by the way, because the Houston Dynamo lost tonight

to Saint Louis, Thank you Saint Louis. The Seattle Sounders have officially clinched a top four seed in the West, which means they will be hosting at least that two of the first three games there in the first round of the playoffs. Boom, how about that one nothing win over the Rapids And just like Chance, Fry said, it was an Albert Russnat goal that ended up going into the lower left corners. Chance, you just left out the fact that it came off of a deflection. That's all, yeah, exactly,

it didn't get it just right. But a goal, good good win.

Speaker 4

Nonetheless, in the history books, it's going to be a goal and it's gonna be a one zero win.

Speaker 1

And that's twenty five goal contribute, ten goals, fifteen assists for Albert Rusnak this season and that comes in what is essentially twenty five hundred minutes. So he has one goal contribution for every hundred minutes in MS this season. That is a designated freaking player. Is I keep saying, let's just talk about this game overall? Nothing another clean sheet,

doesn't matter. How the goal comes, the goal comes. Chance will start with you, James, Will you get in on twelve Andrews will bring in our producer Andrews first as well. Let's all go around the room and just start with our reactions to what is the Sounders third shutout in eight days, nine points in this week, Chance, great win.

Speaker 4

The one thing that they did really well, the Sounders buckled down defensively just you know, did the work on both sides of the ball. It was a little bit of a lucky goal. Not lucky goal. It was a good shot, but it deflected. But I want to give a shout out to Jordan because Jordan was working hard up front. I made a great play to get in, did everything right and if you look at the replay, Stephan, that was a fantastic footsack and a great job of

Albert to come and sweep it up. And the one thing we were talking about earlier is, you know, I think Steve was saying, you know that Schmatz doesn't maybe get as much credit as he could, but the job that he's done with the team is just amazing. And I go back to this thing I wrote it down when Lexi Lallis asked is he a good coach or just a good coach in Seattle? And I just think that is so ridiculous and he is such a good coach and he.

Speaker 1

Takes who is the analyst who said that?

Speaker 26

By the way, Lexi.

Speaker 4

Lallis, Okay, I mean, I'm sorry, but Bryan's done a fantastic job.

Speaker 5

Of what he has sensational sensational result on the road to cap off a tremendous week. I think a total team performance at starting eleven was lights out from start to finish. It was even on the announce you know, during the game, it just said that they felt that the Sounders are in control for since minute one, which which I agree with. My only criticism is you need to have a deep bench going into the playoffs, and for me, the subs need to come in and impact

the game a bit more. You talk about Georgie getting an opportunity, you know, for me, it needs to be a bit more polished, a bit more clinical. Mashofski had an opportunity as well, bad giveaway after Like so those little things add up, you know, read you know, is it a corner?

Speaker 23

Is it not?

Speaker 5

Like so, just those little micro plays. If you're called in to play five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes, they just have to be sharp. And I just thought the substitutions.

I think it's going to get very difficult to bring in JP in the sense where the decision's gonna be a bit unique, because I thought just Obed and Christian have developed this fantastic relationship and then you bring in JP, who we all know of his pedigree, but you also want to ride a hot hand, and I just think it a lot of I just thought they didn't finish the game as strong as they could, and that going into the playoffs could is something that you really want

to look at, especially when you have teams that they sub on top notch guys at the end. So I just think they could have finished the game better with the subs. But overall, total win, total performance, jingle bills in the locker room, they get on the flight, enjoy the flight home, and they get some time off.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 5

I'm glad you mentioned that, James, because I kind of noticed the same thing too. When you know, those first kind of subs came out, Pedro came off, Paul Rothrock came off, Rusnock came off. The levels dropped a pretty significant amount. I wonder if that's by design, because you're trying to almost gear up for the playoffs. This is almost like a playoff practice game where you're like, all right, this is a team that we might be able to face at some point. We got to hold it down

away from home one zero lead. And then the other thing is I'm really impressed with the defending the Colorado had. Basically nothing the entire time. Steph really didn't have to make a key save. It was really really good and that's kind of the away performance that you're looking for.

Speaker 4

Yeah, well, I just want to add on to what James was saying about Georgie and Mussovski. They came in and Steve pointed it out that you know, we not only need to focus on the defensive side of the field, but we need to focus when we have the ball. And there were two opportunities to take the ball to the corner totally run the clock out, and they didn't do it. Wild shot by Georgia. Yeah, if it goes in the top corner, we're happy, but in general, go

to the corner. Misovski should have gone to the corner as well and not try to play that ball back. It gets stripped and then it you know, they come down for Yeah.

Speaker 1

Absolutely, And what I love is that there's all these little things that Brian can go and it isn't just you know, sunshine and rainbows and flowers and all that. There are still Hey, listen, guys, there is a lot that we can work on. Uh, you know, coming out of still a very we can all be happy on the flight home. But we can all be happy and realize that we could have ended that much better. This

game should have been to nothing. Jordan should have put away that cross in the seventy sixth minute that came from Paul Rothrock that was served up on a silver platter, just waiting for Jordan to tuck it away, and that didn't go in. So this this should have been a more comfortable complete win. But listen, we are nitpicking. What is an outstanding eight days where this team didn't give up a single goal against. By the way, three playoff teams.

Houston's gonna be in the playoffs, Vancouver's going to be in the playoffs, Colorado's going to be in the playoffs, and it may be Seattle v. Colorado in the first round, three seed versus sixty. That's how it's looking right now. So if all that happens, we're looking at three playoff teams. The Sounders just shut out three times in a row. That is a pretty damn good week. And I'm sure Brian is happy with that, with his boys singing jingle bells,

probably right around this exact moment. Well, Tonight's Toyota Man of the Match is gonna be Albert Rusnak with that goal your logo. Toyota Dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. Also, Delta Airlines is probably to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through Ray Foundation's One Mile, One Ball program. A guy who ran a bunch of I don't know how many miles he ran today, but I thought he ran a lot of good miles. Pedro de

la Vega. We saw him for sixty four minutes. We spent a lot of time talking about him in the pre match show. Let's round out that conversation and talk about Pedro's day and we'll get to the play of the match. A lot to get to here on the postmatch show following a Sounders one nothing win. To the home of Sounders FCS Sports Radio nine fifty KJU. For the third time in eight days, we get to hear taking care of business. The Sounders took care of business tonight on the road in Colorado. They get to sing jingle bells.

Speaker 1

We get to hear taking care of business because the Sounders beat Colorado Rapids one nothing tonight down in Commerce City. Let's talk about tonight's Emerald Queen Casino play of the match. It is, of course, the goal coming in the forty eighth minute, right at the start of the second half exactly like Brian Schmitzer would have liked to draw it up, where a big mistake from Colorado leads to Jordan Morris

picking it up. A shot is well saved by Zach Stephan, the United States goalkeeper who's also the goalkeeper for Colorado, but comes right back out to Albert Rusnak, who did a great job keeping his head up. His shot is thankfully going through the legs of Andre Smoso, and Maxo hits it into his own net. It's not an own goal because it was already going to be on goal, so it is next tenth goal of the year. But

that's how the Sounders got their one nothing lead. The play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. James, you know, I think it's it's Sounders capitalizing on a poor play by Colorado and Albert's tenth of the year. Absolutely, I think, you know, being opportunistic. Jordan Morris does everything right on that play. Knicks the ball, goes around the defender, opens

up his hips trying to go back post. Stephan makes a great say with the biggest plays Albert following up the play, putting his shot on frame Lo and on frame anything can happen, and it was able to get deflected in the goal. So all around, it's a very opportunistic professional play by those two, and those are your

two big difference makers on the attacking side. So I want to go back to our pregame conversation which is about Pedro dal Levega, and we talked about him getting the start again like he got to start a week ago, and needing to see the integration more and we all kind of give some great thoughts here once again, Jackson Felts, Chance, Frid James Riley, our producer andrews Hurst as well, and we had that conversation about the mentality thing and the

confidence thing and what a good sixty minutes would mean for Pedro de la Vega. I thought it was a good sixty minutes, but let's go around the room. Chance, what did you see from Pedro in his sixty four It was a.

Speaker 4

Good sixty four minutes and he was disappointed to be taken off at that point. You can see in his face he could have gone longer. I felt like he could have. He looked physically like he could go longer. I mean, I know they've got the guys on the sidelines that watch that stuff. But from a mental standpoint there, he was upset, not upset, I should just say he disappointed and he wanted to go a few more minutes. I think he could have gone seventy minutes, no problem.

Speaker 5

I thought it was exceptional performance by him, honestly, to have again this pressure to come in and perform again. He's a young player. There's a lot of expectations, but he's still relatively young, and so I just thought it was a polished, professional performance. I mean, he delivered some great balls into the box. His ability to retain possession in tight spaces, and he has an ability to be slippery through defenders, and just good decision making on the ball,

work both sides of the ball, right. I just thought it was a very professional, polished performance by him. Yeah, yeah, I was impressed for sure. And Chance it's a great observation he said he was a little upset when he's coming off.

Speaker 1

I actually like that.

Speaker 5

I want someone who wants to, you know, put that stamp on the game a little bit more, especially from a guy you've invested so much in him. I don't think he's quite firing on all cylinders just yet. But I think that's it's coming. Because today he come saw the best parts of him when he's creating chances, sliding by people, taking people one on one, had a couple of great crosses in that what no one was on

the end of unfortunately. But I think we saw the kind of bright spots in his game where I think it can definitely grow on this. So I'm excited to see what he can bring in the future, and hopefully he can't build up to that point where he's just playing all the time.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I think that we're getting It's sort of like I led a pregame talking about the buffering bar. It seems like we're just watching the loading bar for Peter dalele Vega, and I do feel like we saw another step in the loading bar, you know. Yeah, Yeah, it's only four minutes, you know, in terms of timing on

top of what was a week ago. I'm with you, you know, for me, what I would love is and Brian Schpenzer joins Dave Softy Maller and Dick Fane Tuesday's ninety three point three KJRFM at five forty five and in his interview coming up this week. I would love the question to be asked. I'll have them ask it. You know, do you feel like Pedro could have gone longer? And what held you back from allowing Pedro to give

you another ten minutes in this game? Because I agree with the Andrewers, I think, I think that it's good to see that fire, but I would have loved even more to see that added ten minutes from Pedro because maybe we would have scored that second goal in those ten minutes. So that's a question for, of course, our head coach later on as we wrap up this game and start looking ahead to the big Decision Day match against Porland, which is where we are going to be

turning the conversation. First, I have some good news Sounder fans. The Sounders won today and you get to win tomorrow. Welcome back to the postmatch show. Sounders winning tonight in Colorado by a score of one to nothing. It's their third shutout win of the week. They beat Houston one nothing, they beat Vancouver three nothing on the road, and then tonight, once again on the road, they beat Colorado one nothing. Those are three playoff teams the Sounders just beat. A great week for the Rave Green as they are right now in third place in the Western Conference with fifty

six points. They're two points back of LAFC right now, who have a game in hand, but as we've noted, LAFC have a rather easy schedule down the stretch. Currently behind the Sounders is Salt Lake. Right now, they are playing San Jose to a zero zero game. Assault Lake with that draw would get fifty four points. With a win, they would equal the Sounders at fifty six. So that is of course one to watch Houston at fifty one and fifth. Colorado, the team the Sounders just played, is

in sixth with fifty points. That's relevant because if the playoffs were to start today, the Sounders would be facing Colorado in that first round series. The Sounders would be the three seed, Colorado is the sixth seed. Two of the three games in that three game series would be

in Seattle, so that is good news. And with Houston losing tonight, by the way, the Sounders have clinched a top four playoff seed in the West, which means they will be hosting the two of the first three round games, two of the first game, two of the first three games in that first round.

Speaker 3

Excuse me at home.

Speaker 1

So whether it's Colorado, Houston, Minnesota, whoever, Sounders will be hosting that in that first round. So that is outstanding.

Speaker 7

We'll call you that.

Speaker 1

Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. And it's time to take a look ahead at what's next because there is one game left in the regular season and it will be against the Portland Timbers at Lumenfield on Decision Day. This is about as big as you can get here when it comes to this game. And by the way, the Sounders win, they win Cascadia Cup. A loss or draw, it will go to Portland. So this game will also decide Cascadia Cup.

How about that Vancouver White keep sorry, you're out of the picture. Seattle, Portland and Portland. By the way, they are ninth place. They're gonna be in the playoffs for sure. They've locked themselves a playoffs spot, but they're worrying about seating right now. They may be even in the play in game. So it's a massive game for Seattle seating wise, for Portland seeding wise, for Cascadia Cup. It's decision day. Carnations are gonna be given after the fans after the

final whistle. It's a six pm Providence or sorry, a six pm kickoff five thirty Providence. We just premat show. It will be right here Sports Radio nine to fifty kJ AM. Folks can also watch at MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV up and then Spanish language on l RA thirteen sixty. What a game we have on our hands, Sounders Timbers Decision Day with all of this at stake now, I mean we can talk about the stakes of the game where we can actually do some

nice x's and o's. I want to do some nice x's and o's because I want to have the conversation of we saw JP Jul Paulo came back onto the field eighty second minute. We saw some good minutes out of him. JP has been an exceptional player for years. I'm gonna say something and I want you guys to tell me if I'm absolutely crazy here, even if JP is one hundred percent. I want Christian rodon In Obed

Vargas in the holding midfield. I want those two starting together with Paul and with the you know, Payder Avega on the wings. Sorry, Joel Paulo, I love you, but I think that because of how well this team is playing right now, Chance and James and Anders, I think, I don't think you can put JP into the starting lineup right now with how well this team is playing. Am I crazy?

Speaker 28

I agree?

Speaker 5

I think you have to ride the hot hand. I mean, I think the partnership that Christian Obed have have cultivated in some high caliber games, and just the fluidity in which they play and cover for each other and balance and all that type of stuff. And coach Smetzer mentioned it today. He said, the biggest thing is that that pairing you can cover so much more ground. It just gives you that extra dynamic feel to the to the game.

And so just that alone. Obviously we know the pedigree of JP and the importance he's played at the club, But you just have to ride the hot hand, especially a hot hand that's producing results and playing that well and making others around them better. So yeah, I would agree with that.

Speaker 1

Chance.

Speaker 4

I'm not going to disagree with that. I think that though I'm a huge JP fan, we all are, yeah, And I think there are going to be teams or moments when we will need him. We will need him in certain situations, certain times of the game, and you know, Obad's great young player, but he doesn't have the experience

as a JP. So I don't want to I agree with you one hundred percent, but I think that we do need him and we need to keep him involved enough so he's not feeling like he's left out and then he's just being thrown in for you know, so you're saying so sorry, so just so, you're saying you have to slide him in for obit. Are you saying that we just play the hot hand right now? No, we played the hot hand, but we but he needs to play a significant role going down the stretch for sure.

Speaker 1

I think that's true.

Speaker 5

Yeah, And there's multiple parts to this, because what's happening right now is I think Christian's playing in his best position. When he's in the middle of the park. He seems to get the ball more, start attacks from a deeper position. He isn't having to like fly pass guys, which isn't really his strength. He's kind of involved in interplay a lot.

You could say, if you really wanted to get JP involved and you believe that that match experience is what is important in the playoffs, could move Christian out wide and then JP comes in plays with Obek because you cannot drop a bit right now. He's been playing some of the best soccer I've seen like all year, and it's great to see from a nineteen year old. Gosh, he's nineteen.

Speaker 1

That's so weird to me.

Speaker 26

That's crazy, man.

Speaker 5

But I definitely think you have to keep Christian in the middle of the park, and then if you do move him out wide, that takes off Peter de la Vega, which is our last conversation as well, who's starting to really kind of get things going. You gotta go with what's working. And the last three, the full last week of the Sounders win, win, win, all three clean sheets. I think that's really really important. You got to keep that momentum going into the playoffs.

Speaker 1

I think I think we're in agreement right now. The only question is is Brian Schminzer, Tommy Doutrip, Preky you know, and Andy Rose, Freddy Warre. Is that entire staff in agreement. It's going to be very interesting because two weeks from right now, we're going to be in the postgame show of a Decision Day game between the Sounders and the Portland Timbers. I am I cannot wait to see what Brian Spencer does with his lineup, and I cannot wait to see hopefully us raising a Cascadia Cup after beating

the Portland Timbers. That would be a dream. But we will talk to you coming up in two weeks. Once again they have the international break here, so two weeks and then we have decision today Sounders Timbers five thirty pre game six o'clock kickoff in a couple weeks here on nine to fifty KJR AM want to think everybody with tonight's broadcast.
