Well, we've started fast and furious to kick off the twenty twenty five soccer season. Four games in eleven days as of today, and your Sounders listen. They've put together two three to one wins over Antigua and CONCACAF Action to move on to the Round of sixteen that starts
on when Day against Mexican power Cruise a Zool. But the MLS season began last Saturday one week Aldgo with a two to two draw against Charlotte at home and now today the MLS regular season continues with the club's a first road game down in Sandy, Utah against a Reale Salt Lake team that looks very, very different from just one year ago. So welcome to the Sounders FC pre match show presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner
of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson Felts alongside the player Kellen Row and the coach Pete Fewing, we are here for the next half hour counting things down to kickoff before Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani will have the call for Sounders and Reale Salt Lake. Gentlemen, Let's let's start off by talking about the positive, and that's the offensive end. Three games, all games with multi goals to three goal games. You know, Kellen, I think offensively, this was obviously the
big topic of the offseason. They add players and we have seen a reinvigorated, much better offensive teams so far.
I agree they made it a point in preseason to work on that attacking threat. And for me, it's look at the rotation that we've had and it's been seamless in the sense of adding in Georgie Manoono, adding in Paul Ariola and Jesus Ferira either off the bench or starting. And the fact that we can rotate and still find these goals, that's an incredible attestament to you know, all the coaching staff, but all the players that are coming in.
It's hard to be predictable when you don't know who's on the field.
Well, they are seamless is a good word, because I spoke with.
Paul Oriola yesterday and he just said, you know, you never really know who's going to start right now, and everybody's fine with it because everybody's pushing for the same thing. You've got about fifteen or sixteen guys that you can plug and play. Jackson Reagan came off the practice field yesterday and we'll get to the lineup in a minute, but he's not in the starting lineup and he said, yeah, it's their turn, right and then so and that is awesome and health wise, we're in a good spot. So
you know, Paul Rothrock's getting his chance. But boy, oh boy, we have never had this kind of depth. I asked oriol I said, hey, have you ever been a team that has this kind of depth? And between his time at d C and Swansea and then even at Dallas, they just haven't had it. So the nice thing too, is that you're not talking about a group that doesn't understand.
How to play together.
They've they're all veteran players and so they read each other well and where do you want the ball? And they're able to serve the ball where guys want it. So it's really in a good spot. The locker room's great, and they're this team is always, always, since two thousand and nine, loved to be on the road, and so they're excited to get to RSL.
Do you think, yeah, go ahead.
I mean, for me, it's I love the fact that we talked about rotation, right, we talked about it last week, we talked about it again today as we go through and we'll go to the lineup that there's a lot of rotation. Again, how far do you go into that, you know, how far into the season are you saying, okay, we're continuous to rotate, because then you got, you know, you got to get guys confidence. If they're on streaks, say it look like a Jordan Morris, you know, it looking.
Like an Albert?
If Albert's creating and that how do you take him off the field. There's so many times where when is and if there is a time this year, are they going to put out eleven? You know, three four, five games in a row, same eleven.
That's a It's a great question because if it's working for Brian Schmetzer, he loves it.
He loves it because what does it do? It creates competition?
Are working? Then it just makes the question of what's your best eleven? We talked about it off the air before the show started. What is the best eleven?
Right now?
We don't know and it's a tremendously hard question.
Yeah, I mean, you guys are ten deep easy.
You could ask ten, ten Sounder fans what's the best eleven and maybe get ten different answers, and you'll have ten different people sitting on the bench that you you had in your starting lineup.
It's incredible, and you know, that's a great thing and a great attestment to Craig Wibel. Right, Yeah, he made Brian Spenser's job a little bit harder. He's gonna he's gonna make Brian Smester.
Easier sleep, Yeah, well easier and harder. Right, who are you going to have the conversation with Yeah, so Brian told us yesterday it's a good problem they have. I know.
But here's a funny one when you said that Kell in a moment ago about you know what lineup and when does it become a first eleven. So in the college game Georgetown they lost in two thy twelve.
I think in the.
Final four they lost to Indiana one nothing. Brian Weiese is their coach in Notre Dame Tree, and so he went to in when they wanted. I think in twenty twenty one something like that. Twenty two Paul Rothruck was on the team.
I'm not kidding. They would sub at the twenty two minute marks.
Six guys would come on and six guys would come off, and that team won the national championship. So my point is, if everybody buys into this rotation thing, this can be a great deal.
Six subs in the twenty second minute? How many How many subs are you allowed in college?
Maybe it was.
As many as it's as many as you want. Really in the first half, you can't come back in. I had that same thing. Actually, how many people know this my sophomore year, the last year I was with UCLA. Yeah, I subbed in every single game in the NCUBA. I never started again. Yeah, and it works and I don't well it works, yeah till at the semi finals we lost in Pens, but I subbed in for Ryan Hollinstead.
Yeah.
How about that now playing in LA Yeah yeah, right, Well Sounders at RSL today and as we talked about, and this was kind of the leading this is a very deep team with a lot of question marks over what do you do with conkercaf action on Wednesdays and with games on Saturdays, how do you rotate the squad p viewing What is Brian Schmutz's delta starting eleven for tonight, Well, it.
Goes back to his four two three one Stephen Fraser captain in goal, pulled up from the Defiance team from the University of Washington, Koalani Koso, Rienza We'll be starting it right back for Alex Troll, Don Gomes Andrade Bell starting a center back. So that's great, knew, who is your left back? In the middle of the park, Obed and Christian will lock down the middle and then on the right. Georgie will be on the right, Paul Rothrock on the left, Albert Rossnak will sit right under Jordan Morris.
And is a ridiculously deep bench as you can imagine. Obviously Andrew Thomas goalkeeper, but Cody Baker, Jackson, Reagan, Joel, Paulo, Danny Leva who had a great game on Wednesday, Paul ariol At, Pedro de la Vega, Heyesusfrera, and Danny Mazowski. So yeah, lots of firepower there for Brian schmitzer Raal sal Lake. Meanwhile, the host for today, they signed up
Brazilian keeper in Cabral He'll start in goal. Brown, Quintin Glad and Cadranis are along the back line of this four two three one a Mecca, anally talented young player in the midfield alongside Oheita. Also Marzuk Luna and Diogo in the attacking midfield with Piol as their forward. Lots of changes. We'll get into that here in a little bit, but Callen, I mean, as we talked about, is a deep team. Lots of rotation here from the midweek game.
The entire midfield rotated from Wednesday. What are your and Jordan Morris, though still getting the start at the forward spot, what are your impressions of what Brian's doing today.
Well, when I saw Jordan come off around halftime, I knew that, you know, he was going to have this this next start. And I think it was a really good rotation in the sense that he has a home game, he has a chance to break the record of most
goals in all competitions for Seattle Sounders. So I think it was good from Brian to give him that start and again today, and he's got He's one of those guys that you need to have confidence, and he needs to go on these runs and these streaks, and so the more the more you can play Jordan, the more he can get his confidence up. If he's scoring goals, that's gonna be great for this team. And we've seen it over the years, especially last year.
But for the.
Standout guy for me is Kialani, a guy that gets pulled up. You know, you have Cody Baker on the bench. Obviously Alison van is his position to lose, but Cody Baker on the bench, who was a natural right back kind of filler. But you're going to bring a kid up from the Cobin defiance. He had such a good preseason they couldn't say no, and I think that's that's
all Kilanie right there. You have a chance to go into preseason as a as kind of a fill in player to make sure we have the right numbers and guys. If guys go down, you get a step in. And he made sure that they couldn't forget his name. He's the first guy they called and said, Okay, hey.
Alex is gone. We trust Kilane And that's huge.
It is your totally correct and it's a great thing for Brian and it sends the message that if you do the job.
Alex Roldan went into.
The Hall of Fame last night at it was really a fun night, great celebration. He went into a training camp and he didn't have a contract right. Then he did the job and he got the contract right. It's the same with Paul Rothrock last year. So you're in a club that if you do your job, you'll get an opportunity. And Colonie that when they were in Spain, they they at one of their games, they were leaving in twenty minutes.
This kid's a good kid. He's a really kind of a free spirit, fun kid.
And Tommy Ducher was saying that at twenty minutes before the bus was leaving, Colonnie was walking up from the beach and his shorts. He'd been swimming in the ocean, and he's like, Colonie, we're playing twenty minutes.
All good, I'll be ready so it'll be fun. So again another kid with personality and.
Step over the line and he becomes a player. Once he's over there, he's like, hey, man, what's up.
But he'll do the job today. This and that.
He's another one that's been morphed from he was not a right back at Washington, So he's another one that. Man, I just love how these team's coming together. Knock on wood that we stay healthy and that the attitude stays the way it is.
Well, we coloniees get the starter ride back. As you mentioned. For Alex rol Don, as you mentioned Pete, he goes into the Hall of Fame for Seattle. You you obviously what an honor for him and for Seattle University, and obviously you coached him. Why don't wantn't you be the one to tell everybody why Alex Roldan is not Yeah in information kiy, thank you.
Uh.
He and his lovely wife stay having their first child. Uh and it's maybe induced today. I think it was the was the thing I heard last night. Stacey was there last night, uh, in a white dress and and uh she looked pregnant, like super super super pregnant.
So it was great.
I sat with him, and you know, Alex did such a great thing at Seattle you and it was really wondering. He actually thanked his wife for holding off in the delivery so he could get the award, which.
That's impressive. Smart. We're very smart man, but I'm not sure that's exactly.
But his whole family was there, and Alex was the three five student in our business school. He's already gotten a master's and analytics, and he did a great job last night. And I merely brought the house down when he got his awards.
So it was really fun.
And I thought you were going to bring it down because he got there before you did.
The Hall of Fame. Yes, I keep trying.
Congratulations to you. In the program. Of course, Alex rolled on and his his wife Stacy there for what's going for what's coming up, So that is why Alex ho Holdana is not starting tonight and not on the bench for your sounders. So congratulations to he and his wife. But lots of rotation there in the midfield for the Sounders, as we will see a rotated squad from Wednesday trying to get a result on the road today at Raal
Salt Lake. Quickly we'll dive into the Providence Swedish team health report, which of course is presented by Providence Swedish, the official healthcare partner of Sounders. FC read Baker Whiting the only one on the injury report. He has a hamstring injury. We still do not have a timeline on his return, per Brian Schmetzer. Well, we are just about a half hour away from kick at America First Field in Sandy, Utah. Today's countdown to kickoff is presented by
Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. We'll be back with more and we'll start to preview this RSL team with kickoff just about thirty minutes away right here on Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM.

Welcome back to the Countdown to kick off about twenty f five minutes away from Sounders at Rayal salt Lake. Danny Jackson, Steve Zachawani. We'll have the call, but this is the prematch show presented by Providence, Swedish. Jackson Felt, Pete Feuing and Kellen Row here with you. Let's talk Raal salt Lake. This is a very, very different team from a year ago. Last season, they were really good year sixteen seven and eleven fifty nine points, third in
the Western Conference, just ahead of Seattle. Then the playoffs hit and that's where really everything has started to go downhill over the last five months or so because they lost in penalty shootouts and back to back games to Minnesota and got knocked out, and then they things have gone even worse because the team completely got up ended in the offseason with so many changes, the departure of Chico Arongo sold to the San Jose eight Earthquakes for
just one point four million. This is a guy who was in the Golden Boot conversation halfway through last year and he got sold for just one point four in gam Anderson Julio gone to Dallas, Rubio Rubine option declined, Mikyle Chen out of contract, Brody waved Silva out of com I mean, this is just such a different team for the real Salt Lake and for a team that then got knocked out in CONCACAF action on Wednesday due to a ninety ninth minute penalty kick and a team
that lost for nothing one week ago in their MLS opener against San Jose. Yes, Kellen, you were right about Bruce Arena. This is a very different RSL team and one that is trying to kind of pick up the pieces in short form this year.
Well, it's just one of those things that salt Lake, and it happens every year. Every year, there's gonna be transition, there's gonna you're never gonna have the same locker room. There's always someone that comes in, someone that leaves. This was an overhaul. That's not an easy thing to happen. So it's not a rebuilding year because you don't have a chance to do a rebuilding year in this league anymore.
There's too many teams that are coming in.
There's too much quality, and so you're picking up new players and hope to kind of step where you're going. But when you lose that attacking threat, when you lose that defensive in Silva it's in Brody kind of that staple guy on that outside back spot, it's hard to continuously be good. Now, look we're really talking about too.
This is the second game in the MLS. I think we've got a long season to go through here, and the guys can clicks as they continue through and you're gonna have, you know, off seasons at a mid season signings as well, so there's a lot of time for re all salt Lake.
But then you're thinking.
Also, Hey, in Salt Lake, it is not easy to play, no matter how this team is shaping up to be.
Is it is.
It looks like a beautiful day out, it might be a little bit hot. You're up in elevation and in Salt Lake fans love to love to scream at Seattle Sounders.
Yeah, I agreed.
You know, Aronggo for me was just such a terrific player. I think we went after him before he went to RSL. To your point about Craig Wible a moment ago, and what a good job he's done Jackson, when you say he went for one point four and we got one point six for Josh, Yeah, that's good work on the GM's part. Right, there are two different players, two different positions, but impact wise, that shows that Craig Wible's got his head on straight and that was a great move for Seattle.
R Well is a tough place to play. They lost for nothing. That was at RSL against San Jose. So Seattle is in a spot where that Brian said after the Charlotte game, that was a loss, right, he just and I was talking to him and I said, none of you guys tied, and I understand what he's saying. It was a loss, so Seattle wants to get going on the ascendancy and take care of business. This RSL team against Chicago in Conker caff and then against San Jose, they're giving up late goals, so we got to get
them while they're down and keep them down. We've got to get our goals, get our production, continue to do what we've been doing, and then put them under.
Well, this is an RSL team playing in Sandy, Utah against the Sounders has been you know, kind of their their spot. Seattle's only won one regular season game in this stadium all the way back in twenty eleven. Since then, it's eleven and three. If there was ever a time to break that run and get a win, it's against a team that is down right now as they are very down.
Yeah, no question and this but here's the deal. Pablem Striani is very good. You talk about Bruce Arena, he hit the way he pulls strings and puts people together. Pablo gets people jacked up. So he's going to make sure that after that for nothing drubbing and then losing too Chicago two to one, he's going to be in that locker room making sure that this team comes out on fire, and you're right the crowd.
I was at the game that we won.
I think Lamar Nagele scored the game winner and it was two to one, and I think it was about They hadn't lost in twenty nine games at home at that point, so they used to.
Call it the Fortress at RSL.
And there will be a lot of people wanting to make sure that they don't continue what they saw in the last one.
We're talking about giving up goals, you know, salt like doing, but we just did it as well right in Charlotte, right against Charlotte at home. So it's one of those that if you have a coach who's willing and able to kind of get his guys going emotionally, that last five ten minutes of each half start and end to those halves are going to be crucial for the Sounders to make sure that they have their emotions in check
and make sure everything's done the correct way. It's the small things that matter, and with the rotational lineup it's a little bit harder to do.
So, yeah, so they got to make sure that they have the little things right.
Yeah, with Bell and klanie.
That's a different that's a very different lineup, right, You know, when if you have just one or the other, I think you're fine.
But Seattle's I wonder if Brian will talk to him about.
Hey, let's just get our feet, let's get comfortable, let's get our points by passing and keeping possess of.
The old saying.
Right, I got told this way too much, as I should have already learned it, but I had to keep getting The reminder is that, hey, your first five minutes, make the simple pass, yeah, make it, make two, make three, have a streak of good passes, and then play that long ball and then play the dangerous one between the lines. Right, It's get yourself a little bit of confidence to start. And I think these guys they obviously know how to
play the game and they're doing really well. But a bell a klanie, klan keep it simple for the first ten minutes. Do what you can, work hard, stain your position, and it's one and two touch.
Yeah, and if in doubt get that thing out right, you can always lump one to Jordan Morris and hope for the best. If they have a high line, so don't get stuck on the ball and.
Don't give anything away easy, because this is a team where the question is around salt right right now? Are where are our goal is gonna come from? Do we have any offensive power?
Yeah?
And if we go down something easy? I mean, he really is. He's the guy Diego Luna. You probably hear Danny saying and Steve say his name a bunch of night because he's the most exciting player for Also like he's making headlines with the United States men's national team. He got the what the cut on the face and then you know, just just a broken nose. And Pa was saying that like like he just wanted to go right back in and like, you know, I listen, this kid is just uh I think we can repeat what
he said. He said he has he has a big kohonas and he didn't say the word cohonas, but like and and like, yeah, I'm sure there's probably I don't know, Kiley's not here. I could probably get away with it, but I won't. But still it's sort of it's sort of a thing where this is a kid who's impressing the coach of the night, the national team. He's impressing
people in salt like he's their best player. Can Diego Luna own it for them and and produce what they need to produce in a big game against Seattle at home here coming off of a really poor last week for Salt Lake. So we'll see what they look like.
We'll take a break.
Here on the prematch show. We'll come back and give you our players to watch and the history against Salt Lake. I mentioned it's not good, but we have some more insight on that and how the Sounders can get a result on the road here in the second MLS game of the season. More next here on the Emerald Queen Casino Countdown. Sorry the provident Swedish premat show on the Emerald Queen Casino Countdown and kickoff on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR.

Well, we are just now about ten twelve minutes away from kickoff at America First Field in Sandy, Utah Sounders, Rayal salt Lake. Today's Countdown and a Kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. Jackson felt Pete viewing callan Rowe counting you down a kickoff before Danny Jackson and Steve Zachowani will have the call in a few minutes. Let's get into our players
to watch today. We've given you the lineup Brian Schmitzer going back to a somewhat similar lamp that we saw against Charlotte. A lot of rotation from Wednesday's win over Antigua that put the Sounders in the concer Calf Round of sixteen that will start on this coming Wednesday, March fifth, against Cruz Azul. We'll talk about that in the post game show later on, but a lot of rotation from Wednesday. Let's get into our players to watch Kellen. Who you riding with?
Paul Rothrock, he had a great season last year. He was the kind of for me. He was that MVP after the summertime in June he came in. He was that glue guy for us. Can he find a way and and coach has given him the chances now twice twice in the league to start a game and find a way back into this lineup and it's his to win. And through preseason. He had a little bit of a knocks and injuries to the end of last year. If few knocks and injuries, can he find a way to get back and get back to.
That scoring and work rate that he had last year?
For me, it's Jordan Morris. Let's keep this thing going right.
He got a couple of goals in Charlotte didn't get any in the last one with Antigua, but will let's keep him going. You mentioned he's a bit streaky and and now he's sitting on he's tied with Raoul.
So it'd be nice for him to break that.
I'm sure he would maybe prefer if you said, hey, you're going to break it on the road at RSL or do you want to not score at RSL and wait until you get home.
He'd take the goal at RSL, and so what all of us?
Yeah, So, so I just hope he can continue to get that get the service. You talk about Paul Rothrock and then Georgie on the right, Let's hope they get the service for him. But yeah, for him to continue to finish his chances, it's great. And they were you know, Craig Wibe was talking about Jordan yesterday and he just said that he had a great season last year. And I always bring this up because I want to kind of defend him to a CLS right, diabetes, right, he deals with a lot of that stuff.
That yeah, well you didn't do it, he didn't do he didn't get him.
They're right, sorry.
So but I just I want to see him get the service he needs in just keep finishing and let's get him to fifteen goals this year.
He's been very good physically since that last injury because he's last year you look at the amount of three game weeks where he started every single game over an eight days stretch, there was a lot of them, and he's already off to it this season, so he's showing that. The obviously, the fear is that you're going to pull something, some sort of muscle thing playing so much in such a tight span, especially early part of the season. But he did it last year, so we just hope it
doesn't happen again for sure. But you did mention tied with Rowl. For those who don't know, and there may be a portion who don't know, the all time goal record for the Sounders is eighty six. Roll had going into the season had eighty six. Jordan was at eighty four. His two goals against Charlotte tied him at eighty six. This is across all competitions, so eighty six Roll Jordan both at it right now, and Jordan could capture the record today. I'm going to go in with Kilanie Coozerienzi.
I mean, this is the this is the kid making headlines and Callen, you mentioned it, the fact that he's getting the start over Cody Baker, who's on the bench. Cody Baker established him selfuse obviously he's a guy Brian Schenzer liked. But for Klannie getting the nod here after a great preseason, Okay, kid, show the coaching staff and show us fans that you are the real deal. You
earned this spot and that. Listen how we see it all the time, a guy, a younger kid coming up through the system, he just pops over on the depth chart. Klanie has the chance to do that with a great outing today. And sorry to Cody Baker, but if Kalani shows out, and we hope he does in a win for the Sounders today, that could be great for another depth piece on this squad, especially at a fullback spot behind Alex rul Don. So that was our players to watch.
I'll quickly tell you that the Sounders and RSL have played thirty six times in the regular season since we joined MLS. We trailed the season series. We have thirteen wins, sixteen losses and seven draws. We went oh one to one against the Utah side last year. And we're looking for the first win against RSL in the last five games or oh four and four over the last four meetings. Just one win over all in the last nine meetings between these two clubs. And as of course we mentioned
only when at RSL came in twenty eleven. So Sounders looking to beat this RSL team for the first time in a while and for the first time since since yeah, fourteen years ago win in Sandy, Utah. We'll get one more break here on the Providence. We just prematch show. We'll come back, give you the starting lineup for Seattle one more time and wrap up our show before Danny and Steve takeover as we are just a few minutes away from kickoff Sounder's RSL right here on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJRM.

A midfield of Paul Rothrock on the left, Albert Rusnak in the middle, Georgie Manongu on the right, Christian rolled on.
Obed Vari is holding with a back four of new who John Bell, Jamar and Klanie Cozienzi with Stephen Fry in goal.
Let's get the.
Keys to the match here, callen, what are your keys to a Sounders win today?
It's gonna be creating chances as many as we can. Let's get Jordan Morris in front of goal and let allow him to get five six a half in front of goals so he can find that goal. But also I want to see Georgie Manonga and Paul Rothrock go at that back line.
Same for me, the wings are going to be very important. The back four have to get organized restarts, justin Glad's done some damage against the Seattle Sounders on restarts, so we got to try not to give up no unnecessary fouls. And then let's get Albert Rusnak doing his thing as well, right, get him on whether it's restarts or whether it's him
getting assists. Get numbers through the box on the offensive side, get trailers so we don't just have one guy in there, but we've got the opposite side of the midfield, right if Georgie's crossing palls in there and then edge of the box and Jordan at the near post. But again, like you mentioned, fourteen years without winning here, this is a tough place to play, regardless of their loss last week against San Jose and then Chicago, so that this
is not an easy place to play. So you've got to come out sharp, get your rhythm, don't make any mistakes well.

Good afternoon from America First Field in Sandy, Utah for the first Western Conference clash in the twenty twenty five MLS season between Your Sounders and Rail Salt Lake. For RSL, it was a rough start to their campaign, losing four nil to a revitalize San Jose Earthquakes, with their entire offensive threat seeking pastures new over the past six months
or so, including top goal scorer Chico ora Ango. The rebuilding has started under Pablo Mastorani and they will feel confidence at home, which has always been a tough place to get results. For Your Sounders. It was a tough last minute equalizer from Charlotte that made a two to two draw Field more line, a loss, but a convincing winn in midweek with a much change starting lineup allows
Brian Schmet to roll out another start. Strong starting eleven, taking advantage of possession in the attacking third and putting away games early will be the focus today. I'm Danny Jackson alongside Sounders winger former Sounders winger Steve zach Quarney here in the booth. But before we get to Deceever's initial thoughts, let's get you the delta. Starting eleven for your Sounders, as you mentioned, a couple of changes for Brian Schmidzer Stefan Fry back in the goal after Andrew
Thomas stepped in in midweek. Kilaney co Srienzi gets his first MLS start for the young man coming in from Tacoma Defiance on a loan.
He'll play it right back.
Gamar Jonathan Bell in the middle, knew who on that left hand side, Obed Vargas rolled on in the center, Georgie Munungo on the right. After his assists against Charlotte Rouzneck another assist for him against Charlotte, he sits in the ten, Paul Rothdock on the left, and then sitting on eighty six total goals for the Sounders equalling Ruy
Diaz against Charlotte last week. For RSL A four two three one cabrawling goal, Brown, Quintin, Glad and Katranis in the back four and Nellie and o'hado in the middle, and then Marchik, Luna and Consalves on the left hand side and Pil up front as a referee gets us going. Kickoff happens shiny sunny day in RSL and as the ball goes out for a throwing deep in the RSL half for the first time this afternoon, we're gonna throw it to Steve and Steve your thoughts about the Sounders
tough result last week, bounce back midweek. Now it's about getting three points on the board.
It's been a good start to the season overall, I mean a Concraft Champions Cup and then the MLS.
I think the result wasn't there.
The performance was really good, fantastic and on Branch Metsa he showing GoF th early in the season. How we can rotate his squad and I think for all the years going down to Salt Lake always been a tough game.
Today feels very winnable.
I think the Sounders are a much better team, so it's gets a good start. The guy's coming in a special on the wing, have a good game as one. I think for the Sounders today's again that they definitely can win.
Sep and Fry in.
That orange pink full kit as he was last week playing in goal, launched the ball down the left hand side. Paul Rothrock getting another chance to start on that left hand side. Of course, five goals, two assists on his twenty twenty four campaign last year, real breakout year for young Paul Rothrock. He plays on that left hand side, and then an equally engaging player in Georgie Mununger plays on that right and Steve you mentioned in the last game against Charlotte as we just will get to you
in a minute. As the ball goes through to Consalaves plays the ball out to the right hand side. RSL in possession, good defending, buy knew who Paul Rothrock back to to defend, launched it loong but picked up by Brown on their right hand side. Sounders in their anniversary kick green shirts, blue shorts, blue socks. Today it's attacking the goal to our right and RSL in all white today out of their normal red kit. They're going to attack the goal to our left. Ourselves start to build
from the back. Steve, we'll get back to you about Georgia. You mentioned that there's a certain Steve zach Kuani that's reminded of Georgia or the other way around. But what's this about its performance last week that made you excited?
He's very direct, I think he knew going up against him really a great experienced defender, but at left back, the space was going to be there, and you started very positively. First fifteen minutes he had about three or four crosses. And the thing about Georgia all great wingers, what they remember is you could lose the battle in eight nine times. Just got a window war. You've got to be right once. You've got to beat your man
once and then have a good end product. And I think that's what Georgie has to add to his game and has been adding, is that final product's got a greate assist of I'm Jordan Morris and if you want to see time in the field this year, the dribbling's great, all that's good, but you have to have an end product that turns into golds and assists.
And it looks like he's added that to his game.
Yeah, it certainly looks like he's put time in the field in the off season. Some of the deliveries last week, and then he obviously came off the bench in midweek as well, so something a threat. We'll see what happens with Georgia over the next six to twelve months. There's going to be some team sniffing around because this rise
has been pretty quick through the ranks. Of course, came in, had a couple of start stop episodes with some illness and injury, but fully fit now and great preseason his belt. But here come RSL speculative shot by I think it's Katran. It does have a good left foot, but I'm more of thirty yards to take some shot to beat Fry. It's going to go out for a goal kick. Fourth minute here Sandy Utah Sounders nil, RSL nil.
I think the start is important because even when you're the better team talent wise, any home team in MLS, you give them a good chance to start, get the crowd behind them. It can be a long afternoon. Don't want to give those attackers any sort of confidence. Of course, shots from disstance you'll live with. But if you're the sound is, if you're the better team, than go out and show that you're better. So I think defensively, be
compact as always, but very important. I think you know coach mentioned in pregame, get out on the board as much as possible today. The connection he has with Jordan Morris, I mean that assists for that second goal.
Last week. It showed you what the two I've been doing over the past year.
All goes along from fry flicked on by Jordan Morris so good in the air as Jordan Morris from those flicks that it's just so many years on that left hand side now is really establishing and anchoring himself in that nine mentioned two goals last week get some level with Rudy as at eighty six all comp.
Goals, can he beat that today? And twenty four.
Game winning goals including last week ties him for number one as well. So Jordan Morris continues to perform at a high level. We expect to see Jordan for many more years in that green shirt, signing a long term contract a year or so ago. Is a nelly central midfield player for rself got his men's national team debut in the off season alongside that man Luna who's just on the ball. Continues to wear that face mask after that facial injury picked up in the US men's national
team game. Pochettino, I think Jackson and the team already explained what Pochettino thought about his bravery playing on with that bloody nose and Gore's in his nose, but certainly MLS young player there last year Steve Diega Luna has really come into his owner of the last twelve months.
Yes, and I think you know similar, that's what we've seen here in our own house with We're.
Gonna get Jordan Mourri's little back heeled Sounders have a chance inside the box. There's Roznak who tries to roll it past Cabral good step Byke Glad. It's gonna be a corner cack for the Sounds. Nil nil, but see if carrying your thought, oh.
Hey, but that was a good chance there.
And I thought I wasn't sure if the Sounders would press as high as we saw against shot last week. Last week the Sounders first fifteen minutes, first twenty minutes came out and they were pressing, I mean incessantly in Salt Lake with the altitude. Wasn't sure if they would. They just did their wonder board up very high. Jordan plays into Albert and I think for Albert just was indecisive. Should have got the shot off very a lot quick car But in the end Sounders setting for a corner hill.
Yeah, four green shirts in the box on that press couldn't quite capitalize, but it's gonna be a corner kick on the sounder's left hand side, in swinger off the foot of Albert Rossak and it comes towards the front. But good's Georgia Monongo standing on the line. It looks like the assistant referees flag is up. It was a win on the initial header from the corner flip towards that back sick there was Georgia Menongo. Assistant referees flag
goes up very quickly. I'm sure they'll do a check on VR Steve.
But yeah, my first foot was that has to be offside.
I think Yam is who wins the initial head up and then Georgie is essentially on the goal line. The sole none on the post, which you don't really see anymore. You normally you have players on the pose which would keep you on side. Georgie was wide open, so you've got to be off side. There's a really quick check. It seemed offside at first glance. It's the right decision, but the sounds yay, models a great header and Georgie that's what you should be. But in my day you
had front post back posts always covered. No one on the posts and that turned out to be in Saltlick's favorite is same.
That's pretty amazing how the RSL back line stepped up on that initial head A little risky for sure to step up like that when the header came from eight yards, but it worked for them this time. Steve said. There's always the argument, Steve about putting players on the post, and the board does get flicked when there's a wide open back stick, it's easy to do. Here's a replay as we look at it from advantage point. Yes there, yeah,
RSL lineup sat on the six yard box. Georgia Minoago just inched off side and knocked it into an empty goal. But right decision by the referee and the assistant referee is nil nil.
Ya it was, and that was Jordan Morris actually with the initial head out. If you're the soundings, if you've seem that now that they won't putting on a post, you cauldn't get the timing grant. If the time is a bit better, then you can actually try to exploit that. You know the delivery will be consistent from Albert Rusnak, so something to watch out for as the game goes on.
Here's RSL in possession, good step by Jonathan Bell came across from his left center back spot playing alongside Yemar today. Jackson Reagan taking a rest is been ever present in the lineup, both in midweek conkerf games and then of course last week the season opener at home against Charlotte, and it's his mistake, of course, that costs that second goals. The ball comes in and that's an own goal, an own goal by the Sounders. I think gets new just
wondering what's going on. He stepped in front of Stephan Fire. Looked like an innocuous cross, no danger there, miscommunication from the Sounders goalkeeper and the Sounders left back and the ball finds the back of the net and it puts RSL up one nil early on in this game.
Lies on every goal the Sounders I've given up so far in the twenty twenty five season has been extremely avoidable. And that's basic to be honest. There I knew who your two. As a defender, you deal with it if you can. But in that occasion, if you get a shout from Stephan Fry and we know we're not there, we don't know knew who tried to take.
But you can't deal with it like that. I mean, that's a poor head up.
Whether there's a shout or not, heads it right into the back of his own net. To give salt Lake the lead, you'd assume and imagine that Stephan Fry would commodity eighteen yard box then and give a shout. There was not even an RSL player attacking the ball. So it's a massive miscommunication breakdown in the Sounder's back line and the nightmassed out. What you didn't want to do was to give salt Lake a leg up with a
very avoidable mistake. The Sounders have done that and find themselves behind well, the.
Referees having a little conversation here, we'll see what that's about. But you're right. As a defender, you got to take care of business. And if you step in and make a decision to clear the ball, you got to clear the ball. In this case, knew who stepped in made the header, but strangely in the back of his own net,
and that is disappointing. And then what has become a very difficult place to play here in Sandy, Utah Big comes even more difficult now, especially with the miles on the legs of some of these players playing in mid weekend. At the weekend, the Sounders have to dig deep here and find themselves back in this game. Georgia Munungo had a goal disallowed just a few minutes before that could have been very different. Of course I started this game,
but it come the Sounders. Rosneck rolls it out to the left hand side, farst side the left Sounds attacking the goal to our right. There's roth Rochester run it down that left hand side, defending by Brown and Marchuk who came into the RSL squad last year.
Playing on that right hand side.
Four two three one to match up to the Sounders four to two three one. Pablo Mastroeni. Of course, there's a both a player as a player and as a as a coach. He's an individual that rolls up his sleeves digs in. His team has performed incredibly well over the last couple of years. Last year third in the Western Conference, standings just above the Sounders.
As we mentioned, there's.
A forty two goals twenty nine assists lost over the last twelve months or so. When you consider players like Gomez Julio Orango Crooks.
Of course, going back to the UK.
That's a big gap to fill and they haven't made any big signings. They're taking their time, but they're really going to start filling the void.
They do.
But to your point, if there's a cult you can get the most out of his squad. It does seem that Parblo is that guy that he's able to somehow figure it out along the way and get that. And I think you don't want to give a team that Parblo seems something to defend, and the Sounders have just done that. Now I still expect Sotly to play on the attack, but with that one no lead, they can't afford to be a bit more conservative. The Sounders are going to have to open up, even on the road.
We don't play for draws here, so as you open up and our gaps will open. So maybe now this is south for us to see a very open game.
Gonna be a throwing from the Sounders on this near side, throwing away, giving away. RSL pick it up outside the Rise of MARCHUK closed down by Nu who scored that own goal to put RSL on the board here in the eleventh minute, nine fifty am. Beautiful day out in Seattle today. Wherever you're joining us, we appreciate it. Driving home from soccer game, soccer practice, whatever it might be. Sounders in Sandy, Utah this afternoon trying to find themselves
their first win in their MLS campaign. We thought it was three points backed up, packed up last week and last couple of minutes. So soccer can sometimes be a cruel, cruel sport. Mistake by Jackson Reagan, own goal by Yamar that's two own goals in the space of two games, really in the space of fifteen minutes.
Steve, Yeah, and you look at the goals giving up.
But even the first quarter against Arotte was a free header inside the six yard box, so very avoidable goals. That's what's going to frustrate Brian Schmitzer because his team has been playing goal last week could have been a free No four, No one routine victory. A couple of mistakes, a couple of goals, and maybe you are seeing in MLS's you can't afford to make those mistakes because you will be punished. Teams are too good, too well. Culture Now,
I was never too much in this position. Maybe you were as a player and the goalkeeper shouts what's the line between dealing with it and kind of letting it let him have it as well, Becauseknew who there seem that he got caught in two minds, doesn't get enough on the head out at all, and it's just a tame head into the back of the net really out of nothing without a sort of lake attackle even maybe within five yards of him.
Yeah, balling the right hand. So we'll get to that in one second.
But here's Georgie inside the eighteen yard box, comes under their foot, tries to skip by Katron. It's good defending by the RSL left back Georgie, He's gonna get isolated at times one v one as the ball goes down the line as pre picks it up on sire as the assistant referees flag eventually goes up. So, to answer your question defensively, at some point you make a commitment to clear the ball and then you argue after the fact when the ball's in the stand. I mean, is
it's just not It's not difficult. Yeah, And and that case with with Knew Who, he just was a court in two minds, and at some point you just got to deal with it and then put it out for a corner, misjudged it.
We're saw him gestioning that he didn't hear a shout from Stephan Fry. So now we will be talked to, We'll hear postgame court and things like that, and that question would definitely be asked. But you have to assume that Stephan Fry definitely has to give a shout. Maybe you knew who he just doesn't hear them.
Here's that man Georgie down the right hand side again, whips it in, good ball towards the back stick. He's gonna skip through, stays in bound, cleared on the right hand side by Brown, round ofm applause by the Sounders bench down below. It's gonna be a thrown on the far side the Sounders left foot of Paul Rothrock to Christian rolled on he was itching to get on the field. It doesn't mean many times since he hasn't been involved when he's been part of the.
Match days squad.
I think twenty seventeen was the last time he was in a squad. Didn't get minutes. So, listening to his interview yesterday before the game with the media, talked about this need to want to be out there, trying to coach on the sidelines. Maybe that coaching itch came out to be involved. But you got to say, when you think about the depth of squad, Steven, you and I have talked about it. It's been spoken about in the media, it's been spoken about in.
All sorts of circles.
Has there been a deeper squad of players that Eveniggi.
Schmid's Yeah, I think I think bigger Schmid.
Maybe the twenty fourteen Supporters Winning Shield is a close I can think of where you can change up. Apart from Colbert and Clint, let's keep those. Maybe Chad Marshall, Ozzie, you had a few staples, the rest of them you could really switch out on the level wouldn't drop.
That's the key.
We're seeing a sound a scene where Schmitzer can bring in Ferrera, Ariola and who get a different thing from them, but the level isn't dropping. When in the years PARSSI just seemed like we looked on the bench and once you got to player thirteen fourteen, you put them in, but a little bit reluctantly. At times we had to be circumstantial. And now we're sort of like Schmeza can pick and you can put pressure on players too. If
you're not playing well, you're out. So I love that and it really builds a good depth for the team.
Ball goes along from Cabral I mean this this season Gavin Beavers, the young teenage goalkeeper, went across to Bronby in Denmark over the course of the off season. Lots of potential there, but they let him go seek pastures new of course, getting over to Europe is for the dream of most young players, but the NLS continues to
get stronger and strong longer. San Diego being the thirtieth franchise in MLS fifteen in the East, fifteen in the West, and you know, thirty years celebration of MLS Steve thirty clubs. Now there's a big story to tell with Club World Cup coming to the US, Sounders of course involved alongside into Miami and then the fifth of World Cup. Of course in twenty six is a big eighteen to twenty four months for MLS and soccer in general in US or US.
So it's an exciting time to be here.
So many great competitions, the Sounds at the forefront of that, a lot of it coming to Seattle.
So yeah, just a really good time.
Great to see the growth I mean about since I stopped playing, I think it's been about fifteen teams that come into the league. So it's crazy to see that the growth is there. And for the Sumers to still be in the mix, I think it's speaks of the consistency at this club. You know, well, eminus one point oh two point however we are, I'm not sure, but the Sumers have always been one of the leaders.
In whichever version of it.
We have been consistency, consistency, consistency, and I think it can take it, not just from the results on the field, Sounders having the most wins of any team in MLS away from home, ninety to one away wins since two thousand and nine, close to three hundred points on the road.
So for Brian Schwetz and his team.
It's not just stability off the field, but stability on the field. As Jonathan Bell makes his way off the field gingerly with the medical staff, referee just holding the ball in his hands, new signing Peel gets his start today up front. It was a Jiago last week signed from Australia from the the A League. MacArthur FC, just
a couple of weeks ago, referee drops a ball. Pressure from Luna doesn't give roll Down a chance, but he wriggles free of pressure and again controls and possesses the ball well far side the left drilled in by Vargas into Rothrock handled it well, then de starts to pass it to RSL and Rosel pick up the ball quickly go They look quick in transition. It's what the Sounders you.
Would expect to do today.
Steve defend well and then with the speed and dynamic play of Georgie and certainly Jordan Morris, the ability to go quickly on the counter.
Yeah, and I think we haven't seen enough of the transition. Also keeping a board, very few sequences of three or more passes where you kind of just put your foot on the board. Controlled the tempo between Albert Christian Old Bed. The quality there's so high when you've got to get a bit more possession to give your fingers time to get up there. But you have to assume when you're defending deep like this or the Sounders are right now, when you do win the board, you have the players
to get out in transition. We just haven't seen it so far. So certainly the happy of the two teams. In this opening seventeen.
Minutes eighteenth minute, Sandy utah rsel one Sounders nil off the back of an own goal from News. The ball gets whipped along the six good ball from the right hand side just skips through between the back line and Stephan Fry. Nothing to be had there. As the ball rolls out of bounds on this near side, it's going to be a thrown for the Sounders and young Killaney playing on that right back. Another good preseason. He had a great preseason coming into the Sounders set up last year.
I didn't get a first team contract, then played with Tacoma Defiance. Better chances to play with the first team
in the US Open Cup. Of course, that fantastic goal that he's scored and that flip Instagram special right there, but it comes Obet Vargas skips by, and a little late in the challenge picked up by RSL it comes Gonzalvez to Luna Center the park just look into his right eventually plays the ball out, finds his man Marchuck marshaled well by the sound As the ball gets flicked in towards pol holds the ball up towards the end line, marshaled well by Jonathan Bell. Back on the field after
going off just a moment or so ago. March I picks it up right corner of the box. His left foot drives it low, comfortable in the end by step and Fry, but a good shot from distance, Stephan Fry's gonna launch it long, not take a chance it slices off his right foot. It's got to roll right past the assistant referee on this near side for a throw in for RSL.
Yeah, what a Sounders haven't been at the races yet, and I think the game's being lost in the midfield. You're not getting enough touches. Christian Rodin, albed Vargas, Albert Rusnak. They've got really controlled that midfield and dominate the board, get touched on the board, controlling it, which allows Georgie and Paul Rothrock and Jordan to be confident enough to make runs. When you're turning the ball over every three or four pass, it makes it really really hard to
get any from going. And you're defensive, You're working so hard, and right now everything's working out for salt Lake.
I think that goal is massive for that case. He gives salt Lake a chance.
He just play in the way they want to without chasing too much and having something to protect. Knowing to sound is at some point, probably right now, I'm going to have to open up as they're gore seeking it equalizer.
It looks so good in midweek and last week in terms of quick possession one and two touch play out of pressure is not working so great for the Sounders so far, sitting at forty two percent possession in the game here as we approached a twenty minute mark, Sounders sitting in seventh position coming into this weekend's games off the back of that two two draw agates Charlotte. Charlotte
managed to get that point on the road. Difficult players to play without their best player, Wilf Sahar that stayed home for the birth of his child, just as the Cern Alex Roldan is at home this weekend ready for the birth of his first child. Congratulations to Alex and the whole role Don Crewe, Christian is going to be an uncle. So much to celebrate in the club with the players who continue to be such a foundation of
this club. As the ball now gets shifted from center far side the left to Rothrock picks it up, but again the games slowing down a little bit too much. Bug has to go back to Knew, who in support all rolls the ball into the center to Vargas and then Knew who Sound is just trying to find a little bit of composure on the ball. Knew who strides forward forced the ball into Rosnick has some time and space. Former RSL man of course, rolls it out to Georgie
got some time. Disappointing ball. He was caught in two minds as a ball came to him Steve, he was looking to maybe cut it back towards the top of the box, eventually decided to clip it went over the top goal.
Kate remains one nil RSLF and that's the missing piece store the final products. You can have it once or twice, but you've got to be consistent.
In Georgia.
Now, I thought we had more time, could have taken a touch, but for the first time we saw Albert get on the ball, getting involved three or four times. The Sound is dominant possession for that little sequence there and were able to generate a good look.
The final pass was lacking.
Not good from Georgie, but positive signs from the sound as attacking ways.
Justin glad central defender long standing RSL players going to take the goal kick.
Of course, this new build out from the.
Back with players sitting in around the six yard box, players taking goal kicks, it's not the way it was when I was playing. For sure. That one I don't understand because it comes the ball over the top. Jordan Morris has got a chance close down, well manages to retain possession inside the eighteen clips and George the backset
cleared by retreating rself backline. But here's Christian rold On strikes it just why good save by Kerbral Herbral's asking maybe some it's a good strike by Christian rolled On from twenty five yards. Assistant referee flag does go up. It's going to be a free kick for RSL. But good build up from the sound is ball over the top. Jordan Morris retained possession and then good strike by Christian wrold.
And it sounds of walking up a good one over the top.
Jordan making the run there for he took a bit too much time in the box that Georgie was open. He's took the first touch, tries to get across and eventually if he plays that the first time, maybe you get it there. But as you said, the board does come out. Christian strikes it really well. I do think offside is the right decision, kind of walking across the
goalkeeper's vision there. But the last three minute sounders generating free very good looks offensively, so the attacking group is beginning to wake up and you've seeing the signs of what he can do, especially when Albert Rusnak is getting the board more and more often.
You can see the high press from the sounds. RSL managed to get out of pressure and play it out to this near side the left with Philip Quinton playing alongside Justin Glad. Today in the center of the part, there is Glad launching itlong over the top, finds the marauding RSL left side player. Katrana's ball comes in flicks over that up somehow from three yards Peel does the inexplicable, knocks it over the top, but look like a much more difficult player than putting.
It in the back of the net.
But it was Kilany on the right back spot got caught out by Katrani's the left back over the top, simple ball caught out the Sounders back line. It's gonna be a goal, Kate remain one nil, but another warning shot from ourself.
Well it should be two nil. I want to say, what a miss. I mean, you can understand it because Jonathan Bell's pressuring him and the pass is slightly behind him. He's reaching for it. If that pass is played even half a yard in front of him, it's a simple tapping into the back of the that sounds will be two zero down. A massively off there, But credit to Jonathan Bell. He went step for step with him, put on enough pressure that the pass had to be precise
and it wasn't. Then it goes over the bar from a yard out. Sound is being let off there, But what a massive warning sign.
Well today's Today's match is presented by the Washington Western Washington Toyota Dealers. As we get here in the twenty fourth minute, Sounders trailing one goal to nill of the back of a new own goal early in this game, as roth Rock takes it off the chest and towards the corner flag on the far side the Sounders left defending by Brown, former Vancouver Whitecaps player, of course, came in tail end of last year two RSL as Pablo Masher and it continues to try and augment his lineup.
As we mentioned, Orango.
Well was certainly in the first six months of the season, was by far the best player in MLS. Kind of trailed off towards the back end of the season after the MLS All Star Game. We'll get to that in one second. As the ball comes in long all bounced up, flicked in by New who no pressure from the sound. It's easy headed clearance by RSL, finds the foot of Pol, brings it down really well, wriggles away from pressure, ballts it out to the far side of the right and
there's March Chuck and knew who brings him down. Referee is going to put the whistle to his mouth. It's gonna be an easy call and an easy yellow card or Knew who was a quick break by RSL, started by Pol, who brought the ball down under pressure. Well found mar Chuck on that right hand side and it was a foot race in the end. He knocked it by Knew who knew who's half a yard slow pulls him down.
Yeah, which I think he's surprise knew who there because March the sean Knew a clean pair of Hills.
Got there really quickly.
You don't often see Knew Who'd be into a loose ball there, and it hasn't been a great started again for new who to own gold now the yellow card which he got one early last week as well, so you have to really be on his best behavior here as this game wins down just twenty five minutes and you don't want to see your left back in the game. That's very transitional way. It's going to be a lot
of attacking, a lot of physicality. He's on a yellow car there, so you've got to keep that in minor watch that as well.
Catronos knocks the ball down, it's gonna roll all the way through to Stephan Frye. As we mentioned, Orango went from RSL to San Jose Earthquakes and Bruce Arena. Of course, Bruce Arena has the magic touch comes into San Jose. Have been extremely difficult to get any success down there, but they've added some players. Martinez have added, They've added Haarks, They've added course Orango.
But what do you make of that Orango move.
When you think about some of the high caliber players of vander going for twelve million to Cincinnati. Acosta going for five million negos to one point four is more to it than meets the eyes, so to speak.
Harangue, I think there might be when we saw Mariadi in LFC where he was fantastic and scored a bunch of goals there, and they didn't hold on to him as well. So it's very it'd be tough for Sorty to replace him. But you've seen that a lot in them lest Now these interleague moves, big players moving club to club for salt lagers, and you can replace that kind of production. You maybe do it collectively, but no one player is gonna come in and be tutor.
Wrangle now again caught in two minds, tries to flick it around the corner March Chuck steps in, wins it, but it rolls through to Stephan Fryer rolls it out quickly to Rothrock afore gets nudged in the back by Brown, who tries to stop the play. System around three just walks on the field, pushing Brown back. Well Argie Barji
in the two players. Of course, we're Cascady arrivals just a year or so ago, and there is Rothrock ball goes into Rossneck twenty five yards from gold chance to shoot, rolls it out to Georgie inside the box, tries to go near posts and it was the wrong decision again by Georgie Rossneck showing his displeasure. It was Vargas, Rosneck,
Rothrock and Morris inside the six yard box. He had to just roll it square and it was a gaping Goalie pushed it to the front post in the side netting chance gone by the sounders.
You have to do what the game's asking you to do, and in that situation that the game is asking you to roll a board across the six yard even if you want to shoot, that's fine, but you have to play the ball where the game's asking you to do it. Because Jordan Morris has a tap in there and maybe you played behind him, maybe you miss it, but that's absolute the right play and Georgie for the second time in this half in a great position and the final
products is likely. Listen is an exciting player, has a bright future, but that's the missing piece to really make that leap from good to great. The final piece has to be there, and that chance goes big and you might not get enough one in the whole game, especially on the road, there's two or three per game if you're rookie, maybe more at times, but not often. And he's had two of them and both gone to Wish.
Just the final quality hasn't been there, and I think on that one Jordan Morris has to let him a half time look. No matter what happens, you got paid across the six short box, I've got a tap in.
So say we're approaching the thirty minute mark, Sounded is trailing one nil but starting to get their foot back into the game. We make of their start other than that first five minutes giving up the goal, that they found their feet again in.
This half, it sounds have offensively now you signed to see again. Vargas is on the ball right now, Albert Rousknick's been very involved. He's the one who's played Georgie in both times. Jordan's starting to get in behind, so you are finding that. I think that goal set them back because the on goal came out of nowhere. But sot Lak for me, it's a team that you can be the elements there beating in the outer who's going to be tough, but the Sound is beginning to find the board and find each other.
But I just haven't been able to find a goal yet.
So looking very much like Croatia from the nineteen ninety six euros. They're all redd and it's a great shot, right, checkered shirt, all right. So even at home, yes it's difficult, but it feels like the Sounders are still playing in third gear right now. And the glass half full approach is that Georgia. Yes he's not executing a couple of chances, but he's found himself wide open.
And he's got to keep doing it. And he's got five amnesia and forget. But and at least you're creating chances. If you were there, you know about approaching thirty minute market, you haven't created chances, just a kind of a stalemate.
You'd be more concerned. So the chances are there.
I think Albarus next the key as he gets the boarding drives at the back line day collapse and you can find these runers. He's done a couple of times, and you have to hope at some point that the quality will be there. It just takes one chance and Georgie is on the next one, putting a good board like you did last week, and someone's in the back of it and everything's forgotten.
Well on the right hand side with Brown crossing the halfway line into the Sounders defensive half of the field, right back for RSL clips it in headed clear by Yemar. Just try to organize his back line. Sounders narrow in their four with Knuho, Bell, Yemar and Kline. No nonsense
back there in that lineup. Well, I just try to find his fetus first MLS start ball gets whipped in, it's got to clip all the way to the backstick out of bound goal kick Sounders here in the thirtieth minute, Sounders continued to trail one goaltanil here on nine to fifty kg am Sandy Utah. As you mentioned, Sounders fans are waiting for Jordan Morris to break through to become the all time goal scorer. Top goal scorer for the Sounders tied up ruddy as last week with eighty six
total all comp goals. Had a couple of chances in that first half against Antiguo. He wasn't able to execute one one of them, especially one v one. He easily slotted that in to get to that eighty seven goal mark. But we know he's going to break it at some point in the very near future. We hope it's going to be today. As the ball goes in behind, here comes Georgie again. Is he got the foot racer catronis? He does, picks it up towards the end line, five yards or so off the end line, rolls it back.
To roll do tries to wriggle free of.
Gonzalves to Georgie. Quentin is out there, one v one is George. It's the chance he's got. Ball goes in behind, little one too, just to chase it down. Don't give up on it, Georgie. A little back here by RSL to Quinton the center back inside of his eighteen yard box. His left foot just strokes it up the field, headed down by Jonathan Bell. But now they go in transition to RSL. Unable to connect with that pass picked up easily by Knuho. So you mentioned about abnesia and players
having to forget what they did. I remember watching a commencement speech from Roger Federi said, you know, one of the best players, if not the best tennis player in the world. He won eighty percent of his matches, but he only ever won fifty four percent of the points in those matches, so it's all about the next point. But here is rse that can he cross it in? He does, whips it in glad exit clear, picks up top of the box by Gonzalvez. C sit clear to
the far side of the right to mar Check. Acres of space just can roll down their right hand side and our attacking the goal to our left cleared easily by Jonathan Bell. It feels more like an All Star game right now, just wide open field and there's a big field. I remember Brad Evans and I called the game I think here last year and he talked about
how difficult the surface was. It was this lush grass sitting on rock hard surface, and independent of the altitude and stuff, it's that the playing surface is difficult as well.
It is it is and I think that too. And the altitude is very tough because the last player you say, no, Georgie. You want to see maybe put a bit of pressure on the sounds to press a bit more, but it's very hard to keep doing it. You gotta find your second wind at some point because to keep going at the place and pressure to sounders want to play it like they did last weekend. He's going to be very
tough to maintain. So you've got pick and choose your moments and ran out of sounds kind of sitting back then subtly come into them. But there's been a lot of transition playing right now and sounding just not able to generate very clear chances because the final part just hasn't quite been there.
RSL one Sounder's nil and this score update is presented by Toyota. Here in Sandy, Utah, all gets played down the line this near side the RSL left has picked up by Pol jumps it to the ground rather dramatically from Jonathan Bell picks up the foul, earns the free kick. But Sounders FC socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC.
One game so.
Far in MLS Charlotte winning against Atlanta, so four points out of two games for Charlotte. Of course, the team that sound has played last week. They earned the last minute point from their own goal from Yamar and the goal separating the teams this afternoon in Sandy, Utah is an own goal from newho You're here in the thirty third minute one nil RSSEL all in possession with rsl Hey that rolls it out to Brown farst side of
their rights. Pictures MARCHUK closed down by new or one v one march UK young Polish player tries to whip it in disappointing cross goes over the crossbar. It's gonna be a goalkick for Stephan Fryan. You know we talk about rotation, but what do you make of Brian Schmetz's rotation last week? Bringing subs off It felt like it was late. You feel like Brian's gonna be more proactive in his subs, especially with a big game coming up on Wednesday against Cruise as.
All I think he can be, especially the way the game's going. You have for her around the bench, you have roll around the bench. We've not seen enough of Rough Rock in my opinion, he's kind of sticking out there on the left hand side when the game's not coming to as a winger. Mixed up, come inside sometimes and all knew who to oveled up every now and then You've got to find sometimes try and get on the ball. Yes, maybe the courch told you stay wide,
let the game come to you. If it hasn't come to you, mix up a little bit more so, I will not be surprised if we see attacking changes with what you have on the bench. Now you have the luxury to do that, and it's a game you want to win. You do want to get off to first two games in the Molesta, not not get a win yet, So you do want to win that game. Keeping the mind cruise as who's coming to town. But this game
what's in front of you right now? I think you have the resources on the bench, and I'd be shocked if branch Messer doesn't go to them a little bit earlier then he maybe did last week.
Free kick taken quickly by the Sounders, ball inside quickly by Klaney, picked up by Jordan Morris.
It's at the aging box.
Scheis Ariggle clear doesn't good defending by rsl as Klaney comes back. Luna asking for the free kick not given. Driven from center to the far side the left to Rothrock. Lil one v one drops his left shoulder, comes to his right, comes back to New back to Rothrock. This is the chance for Rothrock.
To go one v one.
Can he drop the shoulder and beat the player towards the N ninety goes as Brown It's going to be clipped off. I think it's going to be Brown's ankle for.
A Sounder's corner kick.
Yes, it is Sounders cornerckick here in the thirty fifth minute chance for the Sounders. That of course, early in this game it was a goal from a corner kick disallowed due to offside from Georgiaman and go from a flick from Jordan Morris.
So we'll see what.
Andy Rose and the Sounders players have up their sleeves this time. It's the same side of the field Sounders left, and it's going to be Rosneck with his right foot in swinger as the men in green march up the field start to take their spots or some powerful players of course, who are going to attack the ball, not just Morris but Yamar Jonathan Bell is good in the
air as well. One arm up in the air by Rusnik Or comes a little bit deeper this time towards the back, sick headed down ball bounces around, cleared by I think so Nelly just hooks it clear. All bounces rolled back to Stefan Fry standing outside his eighteen yard box.
Asking for a little help from his players.
There's a sound as players retreat stigns to go long, launch it down this near side the right towards Georgie one well by Katrana's picked up by Ohda roars it to a Nelly. US men's national team player alongside Luna, made his debut with Pochettino in January. A still able to take a breather right now as they retain possession well.

Find pol good defending by Yamar, of course, was a Defender of the Year candidate for MLS in twenty twenty three. It was his counterpart Jackson Reagan who got that accolade as one of the top three defenders. Didn't win it in the end, but it could have certainly been Yemar.
Again last year, both Yamar and Reagan anchored a league's best defense and what was their foundation last year with thirty five goals against, it feels like just a little bit of vulnerability right now based on the goals given up. As you mentioned, you said it right, Steve, It's it's the nature they didn't earn those goals the other teams. It was given away by the Sounders somewhat from it's bad defending obviously, two on goals.
Yeah, every Golden season seems like it was avoidable. But I think the past couple of season defensive me, that's not been the issue. And that's why off season made it a point to go in and get attacking reinforcements. But I think defensively the team's been very great. You know, Yamar or Jackson, either of them could have got the acolides last season.
I thought they were.
Fantastic and outside of those mistakes, the Sounders have defended well this season too. But you just cannot and we had it last season too where he was kind of trying to play off the back and giving away silly goals and it can really come back to buy you in MLS, and the sound is learning very early on that the margin for era defensively is very very slim.
Ball top of the box strike, good save by Cabral finds Georgie can this time we find it, Jordan Murris just swipes that it goes wide. It's gonna be a goalkick for ourselves. Another chance for the Sounders. It's not a lack of trying from the Sounders, and there's certainly opportunities inside the eighteen yard box, but again the Sounders can't strike the ball on target from that rebound. It's
gonna be a goal kick. But the Sounders getting in the chances here in the thirtieighth minute, continue to trail one nil.
That's a better chance and it might look and Jordan might want that back. So the initial show was very good. It's good save and Georgie that time does the right thing, pays it back to Jordan and he just you have a bit more time than you think, takes his first touch, the ball kind of sits up, he's leaning back, gets way too much under it, Jordan Morris, and for as good as he's been, he's gonna want that one back there.
But it sounded bursting into life and really pressuring soul Lake, looking like they want to get a goal before halftime.
George, you're finally Jordan Morris.
Dan, he's gonna want that one back at a bit more time, where a bit more finness and you can put that ball past the goal.
Keep had a lot of gold to a matt he just got his angles wrong.
Marchuk, the young Polish winger, tries to roll the ball in behind you, who picks the ball up towards the end line, rolls about to Jonathan Bell his left foot hooks it down the line. No messing around. I think the message from Brian Schmetze and his staff after last.
Week is if in doubt, boot it out, deal with it later.
Rsel are going to build and out of the back. As we get here in the final seven minutes or so with the forty five, not much to be added on by the referee. A little VR check on that goal for the sound as my add a minute or so on, Jonathan Bell went off for a brief moment, got some attention. Of course, the rules in MLS now if you need attention it's not a yellow card offence or a concussion, you have to be off the field for two minutes.
Will gets launched.
Long diagonally by Rssel chess to find Marchuk defended well by Rothrock, who comes back to do his defensive duties as he always does. Ars I have possession ball into the box by looing the goods drop off or go square Yama and the referee had the whistle to his mouth. The thing we all had a heart beating. Then it's not going to be a penalty. Initially it thought that jam I was on the wrong side of the players.
I watched that whole play developed.
Then I thought, honestly, it is a good callt because I think yet, yeah, he initially did have a hold of Yam and that's very good refereeing. Listen, referees get a lot of stick coming for a lot. He watched that there because if you just see the end of that, it looks like a penalty. But Yema was having his shirt tm to even allow to strike it to get into that position to referee washed it all the way. Pablo doesn't agree at all. He's living on the sideline,
but it is all right decision. Even if it went to va R, you would not overturn this. Yamo ended up on the wrong side because he was having his shirt tug. Good referee and great eye.
As we're looking at Pablo in his technical area hasn't had the benefit of looking at that replay, and you're right it was.
It was the.
Initial grad Peele actually had didn't have to maybe pull that jersey because he got on the wrong side of Yamar, and he could have.
Maybe just stopped absorbed the pressure gone down.
You said he had the advantage, a little.
More of a of a savvy player might have taken that a little bit differently. Orango is there, maybe he absorbs that pressure goes down.
Yeah, we're seeing another replay now.
It just looks like, you know, the last part of it, Yamo drags him down, but for Pelee to get there, he was dragging Gamer with him. He had a chunk of Yemo shirt and referee was adamant. He was clear right away that this is a sound is bored. It's not a penalty, and I think one part or Dusty the reap it. It would be tough to argue against that, but you're right, the straker did have the advantage anyway.
So yeah, I just gotta be a bit aware.
He is a good fight my running by salt Lake there he went to a good position and couldn't take advantage of him.
Or it goes top of the box towards Rossnick, who's a little bit slow to get to it and react, picked up by Luna to Katranas who just clips it a long towards Peole who flips it forward to nobody, picked up by Jonathan Bell who plays it forward towards Rosnick layoff to Vargas, but to Killarney, and there's Vargas who continues to mature beyond these years. It's Coloney right back Walter towards the end line. It was just a miscommunication.
Georgie came inside, really should have sayed out wide or goes over the end line goal kick.
Sounders trailed one nil.
Yeah, there's absolutely no need for Georgia to come inside. Once Colon's in that position, stay wide and give us off a better passing angle and then makes it defend have to decide because in that moment Georgia came in too tight. The defender can mark two players just by staying one position, get wide, make him have to make a choice whether to close you down or go to Georgie,
and I'll make up Colanie's mind for him. In the end, the run was off, the pass was off, and another attacking chance goes begging for the Sounders.
Well, Sounders are trying to inch back in the possession charts. Branch Mats always talks about fifty five percent being the number R playing with fire playing alongside the eighty six yard box eventually get out of pressure. Sounders continue to play some high press even at this altitude, but Rsel got even credit. I used to play out of it Sounders. They've caught him a couple of times. Sounders have seven shots on in the game so far against RSL's three.
Even though the RSLR up in possession. It's the Sounders who had the better chances in and around the eighteen yard box, just haven't been able to capitalize so far, one goal being disallowed dut offside from Georgia Minango Well. March is Women's History month. Support women own small businesses during the month of March for a chance to win sound as FC prizes. Or goes into pr headed clear Or, finds march Ruk inside the eighteen yard box, tries to
drag it to his left foot. Good block by I think it was new who slid down made the block, but it's looting now. Top of the box twenty five yards from God goes to Pel, tries to wriggle free cleared by Bell, finds the foot of Jordan Morrison.
He plays the ball over the top.
Now can Georgie find it, must say Georgie mayvie a little bit gas that altitude potentially starting to make him suffer a little bit. Doesn't have the legs right there on those Quintin who managed to get it behind and roll it back and rs I'll come again.
Yeah, And I think the Sounders were beneficiaries off Marchings in decisiveness there sotly get into the box having a good chance. Sounds a getting a couple of blocks on it, but a more polished attack and more experience attack there. Take their time they can really test that, and Friday weren't able to do so. But another warning sign for the sound is that threat in transition in behind has been there from Salt Lake, even though they've not been able to really capitalize on that either.
Fell and Rothrock. Sounder's got a chance now to put the ball in the box just a couple of minutes before the end of forty five.
We'll see what the referee adds on.
Don't leave us at halftime, Jackson, Pete Callen, We'll be back to break it all down, and certainly lots to break down Sounders.
Conceding that own goal early.
In the game really against the run of play. They've managed slowly to build themselves back into this game, and they have a chance now from a.
Dead ball situation.
We know how lethal the Sounders have been last year from dead ball situations.
A little deep this time, just tucked.
In from that left sided touchline. But it's gonna be Rosnackho's going to clip it in towards the penalty spot ball comes in headed clear by Anelly and then hook clear by p l. It's gonna be a throwing for the Sounders twelve yards or so from the corner flag on this near.
Side the right.
Quickly and by Kilaney to Georgie, back to Kolanie who's been steady. Eddy in that right back spot managed to get forward a couple of times. Brus Schmetzer likes those right backs to tuck inside, as Alex Ordan has done so well over so many years. And here's Roth right down the left hand side. Can he wriggle free of Brown? But Marchek comes back to do his business foul giving up Oh no, Hada takes the pressure, goes down, earns
the free kick as rs. I'll try to see out these final minutes of the first half, but discount tire get thirty percent short to average weight time when you buy a book online at discount tire dot com. As you get here in the forty fifth minute, it's RSL one Sounder's nil.
And this score update is presented by.
Providence, Swedish as Cabral the RSL goalkeeper new signing for part blow Mastroo in his team from Brazil Copa Libertador is winner with Santos played in Europe, England and Italy for ten years, so lots of experience. Of course, they've
done very well for goalkeepers over the years. McMath struggling with injury right now, but of course Nick Romondo sits in the number one spot just above, well not just above, quite a few clean sheets away from Stephan Fry three minutes of added time thrown up by the board down below, sitting one hundred and sixteen clean sheets, and I think Ramondo's about one fifty six. So so Fry's got a little ways to go see how close he can get
over the course of this season. And I think for any goalkeeper right now in MLS, the Sounders are on the back of two seasons running as the best defense all right, So I'll have it with Katrani's right in front of Pablo Mastroeni in the RSL bench as road Anchester wriggle free and seting lots of options for Branch meets.
Off the bench.
The ball gets launched a long well from the back line, finds Rothrock inside.
They're attacking half of the field nothing.
Ford goes back to new who Vargas in possession, but loose again by the Sounders in possession, giving away quickly to Luno Fans mar Chick down the right hand side. Now just tracking back. One v one ball comes across the six. Pl tries to slide in, clips off his toe.
It looks like it's gonna be a goal kick. I think it is so, and Fry runs quickly to grab the ball and the Sounders get one more attack going here as we get into the added time three minutes of added time, let's see again Marcho's look dangerous that young people.
Should be scared to quite new who he really hasn't he's driving at him, gets a good ball in there, just a bit too much ahead of his striker there for the just thinking. If I'm in branch Messi's chair, you know your depth is there to be used. So I think Ferrero oh Aria has to come one very early second half. I think you can definitely change ball wingers for the Sounders in Dela Vega won't be far behind. It just got to switch up a bit the attacking
dynamic here. Don't think you've got enough quality from Georgia at times and enough involvement from rough Root.
Here's Luna finds Marchuk drees to flick it around the corner cleared by Jonathan Bell. Has been steady Eddy again in that back line alongside ye Mark sitting in for Reagan today. Steve mentioned lots of firepower on the bench for rarer Ariola are all getting his second goal in two conker Caff Champions Cup games in midweek Della Vega three goals in two games in conker Caff. He sits on the bench as well. Four goals in pre season,
so absolutely flying right now. Bran Schmetze making sure he keeps his feet on the ground, of course, keeps him honest. Here's Catron. It's the left hand side and RSL trying to clip the ball in as sephan Fire puts the hands over his eyes as the sun beats into his face, but Boror goes over the top and it's going to be an RSL corner right the death here, thirty seconds or so left of this first half. Sound's gonna have to defend one more corner kick before they go in
and sort themselves out. Get some words of wisdom from Brian Schmitzer. But need to defend now. Of course, it was last week when Milanda got in with a free headed inside the six yard box. It's going to be a corner kick from Rsel's left hand side. It's gonna be an in swinger by Gonzalvez, whips it in towards the back stick, headed down save by Fry was two defenders on that. It was a nelly on the back post. It was a good save by Fry. And there's the
referees whistle brings this first half to a close. And it was an old goal by knew who in the eighth minute that put RSL on the board after a disallowed goal by Georgia Monongo just a couple of minutes before that. Steve, your final.
Thoughts, Yeah, I think it was a poor goal to give up. And then you know, Shult flashes attacking wise, but not enough quality. And I think for the Sounders you've got to make changes sooner rather than later, because the game is still there.
Certainly get themselves too.
Now up now you're thinking about Wednesday and maybe just no throwing in the white towel. But I think I'm the game's still there, so make changes sooner than late. Tafel Branch Metze.
We'll take a short break, Jackson, Kellen p We'll be back to break it all down halftime here at America First Field in Sandy, Utah. It's Sounders nil RSL one.

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show.
Forty five minutes in the books from America's first field in Sandy, Utah, we all saw Lake leading the Sounders by a score of want nothing. And today's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers, Jackson Feltz, Calen Rowe Pete. Viewing here for the halftime show as we gotta be honest right now, that was not a very pleasant first forty five minutes to watch for our boys down there in Utah. The own goal from new in the eighth minute is where we're going to spend here
our first segment on the halftime show. And we do gotta be honest here. Whether it was a miscommunication, Fry yelling at New Who and not hearing him, or whatever else I knew, Who cuts in front of Stephan Fry heads it down and into the back of the net for the own goal in the eighth minute, and let's just let's just speak honestly about about what the heck happened. Callen, You're a guy who played and trained with New Who on a daily basis for a long time. What happened
there with New Who? I, honestly I don't know that is that is I don't know where you're heading that ball.
You know your job is to head it out from the goal. Obviously, down and into the goal is not where you want to be. Whether it's communicated or not. You you find a way through it. If you get hit in the back or you get trampled by Stephen Fry, that's just the way it goes. But it's not just new who who has has not had a good half. It has been a lot of players. And look, we talked about it off air when when when the halftime hit, it felt like we just played yesterday. This is a
rotational squad. This is a chance for guys to get out and play a Georgia Manongo at Kilani Paul Rothrock Guys, this is your chance to make a name for yourself and get into this This very good squad that we have is very deep squad. You're allowing Brian Smester's job to be very easy at the moment. Find a way to get back into this game if not, And I can see it happening that Brian Smester's gonna make changes very quickly.
I would agree with that. And yeah, I think maybe we got ahead of ourselves.
We were feeling very good about the first three games, felt a little bit unlucky with Charlotte giving up that late goal for the tie and then scoring as many goals as we did within tweet Antigua so and two good goals against Charlotte, but we were disjoined on this one and giving the ball away too much and just kind of not sharp from the beginning, and and the way the way we didn't move the ball through the midfield.
I thought Rosnik, Christian and Oba did not have any balls in the attacking third where they were slipping balls. Rosnik had wanted he played to Georgie, so they were off right. And Brian, you know, Brian, having done this for so many years, will get after him a little bit, but also say, look we got forty five minutes. Now connect your passes. Let's get going again. I found and
Kelln you know you played here. I found that when you're at altitude, it just takes a little while to get that air in your lungs.
So now hopefully the second half.
But you're right, I think he'll He's got guys on the bench right between uh Dyala Vega can come in and do some give some help.
And maybe it's JP who comes in.
Maybe this is one where Jariola you've got Jesus Ferrera. You've got attacking pieces and and quality attacking pieces that need to come out of the field and get it. But like you said, that second win takes a while, but you need that second win.
Yeah, absolutely, Well, the team doesn't play again until Wednesday, so there's time to get these guys minutes and you don't have to worry about uh, you know, because it is it's not like they're playing tomorrow. Let's let's not make it wednesday.
We did on the on in twenty twenty two. Right, it's not just Cocker Calf. We're in multiple multiple leagues here, Right. The MLS has to take a little bit of presidents today.
Today does for sure. Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish, official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. RSL leading one nothing on an own goal by new who will continue the halftime show next on Sports Radio nine fifty KRM.

R Welcome back Sounders fans to America First Field in Sandy, Utah. As the teams slowly made their way back out on the field, it was a tough first half of the Sounders in all respects. They had chances to score, couldn't capitalize on the pressure they had, and it was a new who Owned goal in the eighth minute that put RSL on the board somewhat against the run of play. The Sounders had a goal disallowed from Georgia Menngo just
a minute or two before that goal. But the Sounders have all to play for in this forty five minutes and as they often say, the only way is up. I'm sure Brian Schmid's had a few choice words to say to his team at halftime. It just felt they weren't out of the gates in full flow. We've seen the team so fluid in possession, in the attack, in half of the field and for Brian Schmetz, and we're going to wait to see if Brian Schmetz make some
changes coming out of the half. We expect to see changes early here, especially with the fact that the Sounders attacking force were on full flight, Steve, But what do you make of that first half? And then, certainly more importantly, what's Brian Schmetz said to his team at half time. We don't have Michelle Ludka to speak to Brian of course today, but what's what's Brian said to his team.
I don't think it had been too happy because I think, you know, at times the game was a bit too transitional. You need to get a bit more control and that's a litle bit and Christians to get on the board and dictate the patiental the top players are able to kind of know when to drive the pace, when to slow things down, and I thought the Sounders didn't do a good job of that.
The whole time.
The game kind of bypassed the midfield, very transitional, and I thought you could have got more from your fingers, you know, rough rock, not enough involvement, and Georgie, I think good involvement, not enough quality.
We said before then the first half that we're.
Probably gonna see some changes, and we have, so Bran Schmetz a definitely thinking along the same lines of what we'll be thinking as well.
I think you're right too. I think it's both outside has come off. It's Ariola got a goal in midweek against Antigua's second goal in as many games in Conkerkef Champions Cup. Looks like coun be a lightful like swap football, Rothrock on that left hand side and Georgia Minongo tough outing for him. In that first forty five minutes hes got in some great spots, but it was just a final product that it eluded him. And it's gonna be Pedro de la Vega's gonna get forty five minutes here
on that right hand side. I'm sure we'll see him float inside. But sound has now got the firepower and it's of course, let's not foruck. Get Rosnek eleven goals, eleven assists and his final season with RSL before making his move to the Sounders in twenty twenty two. Near come the sound is with Pedro Dela a good quick feet away from pressure. Find Kahlany on that right hand side. We'll get you that lineup coming out for this second half.
In just a moment, as the Sounders build from the back with the Yemar to, Jonathan Bell skips the ball to the in this near side gives it away. Ariola comes back to help and there is rossneck former rsl Man. Just a little reverse ball well played by Rosnik, finds the foot of aarial nothing much in front, go square across the field to Clan.
He tucked him from his right back spot.
Dela Vega, available to his right, plays the ball across the six. It was a great ball. Jordan Morris just didn't make his run. He's got to get in front of He's got.
To take a chance, Steve.
And it's a great opening play, opening attack by the Sounders here in the second half.
It's a good attack and you're seeing already what Delavega can do, what Irola can do. Arola will inject a lot of energy into the team and he makes a great run forward. Dela Vega does well and kind of gets the ball. He holds his run. He spoke about Georgie in the first off not doing that. Hold his run, stays wide, makes the angle for the pass and Dela Vega puts in a very good cross on the right hand side. And I'm in agreement with you. If Jordan
Morris is there, just takes a chance. Maybe the ball doesn't come, but you have to at least be there in case it does. On that occasion, it did come in between the goalkeeping the defenders, but there was no sound as played. That's a simply taped the ball into the back of the net. But Ariola and de la Vega are both make an impact already.
As Gonzalvez finds the ball into all one man from Australia signed in just a couple of weeks ago in January, or clipped off his heels by Yamar Good defending by the Sounders back line as they retreated to defend Fry's goal. It's gonna be a thrown for RSL. On this right hand side, there's ten yards or so from the corner. Flaggers Brown walks up. Former Vancouver white Caps man is gonna potentially throw it in long here as he takes
four or five steps back, big manner up. Quentin is up towards the end line, just inside the six yard box. On this near side, Sounders in their anniversary kit green shirts, blue shorts, Blue Sox attack and the goal to our left.
Ball comes in by RSL.
Long throw, clipped in ball bounced around two Quintin who skips it over the top. It's gonna be a goalkick sound as they trail one nil and as step and Fry gets set up for his goal kick. Let's get you the line up for the Sounders coming out in
the second half. Two changes from Brian Schmittzer straight out of the gate Stephan Frying goal about four remains the same kilany Yemo Bell knew who Vargas rolled on in the center of the park and it's Pedro de la Vega coming on for Georgia Moningo on that right, Rosneck the former RSL man himself in the middle, Paul Ariola coming on that left hand side in place of Paul Rothrocker. Then Jordan Morris, the eighty six gold Man for the
Sounders plays up front. No changes for RSL, cabrawling goal about for a Brown Quintin, Glad Catranis and Nelly the Impressor. And Nelly plays in the middle along side of Hater Mar Chuck, Luna Gonzaldes and then Peel up front. Four two three to one from RSL to match the Sounders four two three to one. Good start for the Sounders. They play it felt like they played in third gear. Steve in the first half. Whether it was an elevation.
Issue was just finding their second win. Just felt like the Sounders could go another step or two.
Yeah, now if part of his understandable. You know, we took the early goal that wasn't ideal. The altitude as well.
Paul comes in. Here's Kliney off his chest, ball comes in, sits on top of the sixth clear. On the second attempt by Quinton, there was a good attack. It was a baller with the top. It is a dashing kilany no foul given by the referee. Sounders have it right hand side with Vargas whips it along the six again. It was could ball by Vargas and it was just Morrison couldn't disconnect himself from Glad and the ball skips through on this near side for an RSL throw.
Well, another good at tough on the right hand side, and everything were centered bout that was lacking in the first half.
It's been there.
And then opening four minutes or solve the second half, the Sounders attacking really well, a lot more energy, a lot more injection. Not much changes playing wise with the subs they've made, but I think I realized in the mode of rough rock maybe a bit more quality. He has an experience and Dela Vega won't be afraid to make his runs on the ball. Off the ball come a bit more centrally, which will create space for Klanney
to go on the overlap as we've seen already. So the Sounders making a good start to the second half and looking the more likely of the two teams to get on the scoreesheet.
Good quick turn by de la Vega just turned away from pressure.
We've seen him do that so well.
As Ariola barrels into the back of Marchuk is having a little word. I think it's just to check to see if he's okay.
I think, Steve, what do you think.
That's one way to put it.
I don't think Ariola was very happy with how Marcho went down up now and he'll get to see it. But I love the fire he plays with. Ariola know he has a smile in his face as he's doing it. But you know, we were able to interview on the podcast Brad Everson. I when he first came to the team, and you know he hasn't been here long, but he's a leader.
You know, he was a leader in Dallas.
He's won the arm band before and what an addition, and that's the difference this year. You know, it's not not great for us off not when well, but you can bring on de la Vega and Ariola and you still have his USA on the bench and job parlist on the bench. So we speak by the depth for a lot and listen, it has to show out on the pitch. But just having the option to have that is a luxury this team has not had, I mean previous years.
Let's not forget. Mussovski got forty five minutes against Antigue. It didn't make the most of it. I think we could all say based on the performance that we saw in that forty five. But sometimes tough when you don't get many minutes to come on and expect to do something. But he of course has goals in MLS and some.
Of the forgotten man.
So far as the ball goes in rolled down, look like he won the ball on the slide. Referee didn't agree a free Fiero calls it. It's gonna be a free kick for RSL twenty five yards or so from the end line, just right hand corner of the eighteen yard box, ten yards or so outside the top of that eighteen it's gonna be a chance for Katrana to with this cultured left foot or Luna to float this
ball in. And they've got some height, of course, they've got Quinton, got glad sounds gonna have to be on their toes here.
Don't want to give up a goal early in this second half.
Fifty two minutes gone RSL one sounders nil nine. Fifty am free kick for RSL. Luna over it, Katrani's over it. Left foot of Katranis, right foot of Luna. Continues to wear that face mask, nurturing that facial injury. Ball gets floated into the six yard box, headed clear by Yema, picked up by de la Vega, tries to go through the legs of Katranis, loses the ball. There's mar chuck and there's Ariol having a little nibble again after coming
together those players for in the half. And there's Ariola just stuck his foot in necessary too eager, too eager that I understand, trying to apply the pressure and all of that prevent a cross coming in.
But he's facing his own goal, going backwards towards the goalkeeper. No need to make the foul day. It does give sort Lake a chance to maybe take their time, get it set up and get the ball into the box.
They decide to play quickly.
But I feel as this game goes on, set pieces will become a bigger part of it because when the game's tight and maybe just need that one goal, the quality on set pieces at times is what can make a difference. So just be careful making those little fowls there. You know, yes, you want to be intense, you want to be aggressive as Ariola was there, but you don't want to give away little city fowls.
Fifty seven goals between Ferrera and Ariola in their MLS careers together, thirty seven assists, so lots of firepower for Brian Schmidtz coming in the off season. Betiche and there's two Dallas men. As the ball goes down the line, Jordan Morris is going to chase it, does pick it up it, Astrnis comes back, defends well, knocks it out
of bounds, throwing for the sound. It's five yards from the corner flag on the far side is attacking the goal to our left and their anniversary kit rsl in their checkered shirts, white shorts and white socks try to hold onto this lead as the sound has come now in waves. They looked like they've woken up at halftime. Sure, Branchman's had a couple of choice words. It's Kilaney, the
MLS debutante from a starting position. Got twelve minutes last year off the bench, of course, had some time with the team in Open Cup run scored that wonderful goal and that flip celebration. Of course, but it's his chance and he's certainly taking the most of it. It's look dangerous going forward defensively looks solid, not an easy place to come in and play. Of course, there's de la Vega, just fit impression behind goes back to Yemo. He's got
to clip it down the line. Ball on the sounder's right hand side, cleared up in the air by the impressive and Nelly one by rolled on, picked up by Della Vega right channel, rolls it out to Kolaney, rolls it down the line inside the eighteen box to Dalla Vega, cuts away from pressure, comes on his left foot, clips it in. It clips back towards the backstick. Scuff shot by Rossneck. It was a scuff shot and partially blocked
by brown. Collected by cabral, but another chance for the Sound is inside the eight yard box.
It's another good attack and dela Vega changed the game. And if he's off the board running, he's willing us to get into the hard areas into the box. Put's on a good board there and Albert just doesn't get a good connection going for the left foot volley doesn't quite connect well. But de la Vega's come on and he's added a little bit of qualit in a final third and I've been impressed. He plays the board, he doesn't stand in the might have passed. He moves right
away making runs. He's making Kolanie's job a lot easier now just because you know you just got played the board. He's gonna run every time. The hard running is getting into very good positions right now. The Sound is yet to capitalize, but it's been a positive start to the second half.
Luna crunches in on new who Who. You could hear the screen through the microphone. I'm quite sure if it was a full content, but knew who earned the fowl just inside the Sounder's attack in half the on the left hand side. We'll just seeing a replay here yet a little high by Luna. We'll see if var takes a look studs up through the middle of the shin and the referees just gonna hold things up a minute.
And knew who's got.
Yeah, because who's asking for the card?
And based on the replay we just saw it, he's not wrong. I mean he's no. It's a fair attempt on the ball, but he's quite high, and I think he knew who was booked in the first half, and he's asking just this question of hey, where's that same treatment? Essentially, but good to seize back on his feet and.
Up pulled down by Brown.
Simple foul.
It's going to be a yellow card.
It is going to be for Brown. So I think it was a fact of a one two punch by rsl quick fouls on knew who Brown's was a little bit more innocuous, more professional foul dragged down, knew who was he trying to do a one two around the corner. Luna's tackle seemed a bit more dangerous, warranted something more than potentially even a yellow card. But Sounders at the ball on the deck, it's going to be a free kick. Sounders need to find the way back in the game.
It's It's been a promising start to take campaign.
Here's the ball down the left hand Side's Ariola running down and there's Glad. It slides in, clips it off the shins of Ariola. Good defending by Justin Glad. Long time, of course. RSL man over two hundred games for RSL homegrown in twenty fourteen and continues to play at a high level. It's gonna be a goal kick here. In the fifty seventh minute for RSL they lead one nil against the Sounders in Sandy, Utah. Nine fifty am. Cabral
tries to roll it out. No pressure on RSL as the ball kind of trickles to that left hand side. Katranis could defend himy Klan, he just wins the ball. Combined with de la Vega. Of course, Ferrera is still on the bench. Brand Schmittzer has the option for Farrera's Steve Zakwani mentions Jao Paolo as well, Jackson Reagan getting arrests today, Cody Baker, Danny Mussovsky, Andrew Thomas of course, and then Danny Lavery who played so well in midweek.
So lots of options for Brian Schemetz if he needs to change it up, so it made two subs already of the five. All goes across to the top of this eighteen for ourselves. Katrana strikes it and wide dragged that shot wide of the far post. Had the chance to get I think it was Gonzalves sliding in, almost got a toe on it to redirect the ball onto Fry's goal, but didn't.
It's gonna be goalkick for Sounders. Remains one nil Rsel.
It'stead a very wide open game to me here and both team's going for it, neither side really getting a foot on the ball and really dominating possession solely there. It's not like they're breaking down the sounds there these amazing up back and foods eccential just finding space and it's not a great short end of the day there. You might as want to tien up just a little bit, be a bit more compact and force them to have to beat you.
Or it goes to this left hand side, near side with Areola five yards or so from the end, like comes on his right foot just to clip it towards the back stick.
Nobody there but.
The slow feel. It bounces and eventually trickles all the way through. Sounders have a chance now to maybe squeeze RSL in so they have a thrown deep on their left hand side, just in front of the assistant a referee on the far side of the field, hands of Katranis. The Greek left sided player came in from Poland, and of course Marchek was a Young Player of the Year in the twenty three twenty four season in Poland. He's playing on that right hand side. Pick up by RSL.
In twenty twenty four, Bill hooked in easily collected by Cabras.
He steps up to his penalty.
Spot as the ball was looped in the air by Yamar. What does the Sounders need to do is it just continue to probe and continue to press and eventually maybe rely on some of this quality they've got, or they toatically they have to change things down.
I think a couple of things.
I think he found success in white thereas the quality hasn't always been there, but going to the right positions and the boards seems to be getting a bit better with Dela Vegg go on to the pitch, but also thinking the first off, when you've got Albert possessions centrally facing the goal facing where he wanted to go. Driving the back line. It forces the center backs to have to come out. They come out to Albert and now you can slip in your wingers can slip in Jordan.
You've not seen him receiving the ball enough between the lines and credits to Rsel They defended that well.
Ball over the top to Jordan Morris. Arms go up, nothing given Jordan Morris towards his right foot. Can he strike it on goal?
He lays it off.
Oh and this sister referees flight goes up. He was a good finish by Rossnak. Cessa referee took her time on the far side. We all thought it was off side by Jordan Morris. As the original run game cap going. It was a great finish by Rossnak in the upper ninety layoff by Jordan Morris. Thinking of the thing Jordan Morris laid the ball off ten yards from the goal when he's on eighty six goals.
Yeah, yeah, and I thought it finished. Was there for Jordan If Jordan wanted to simply finish it was right there. He did really what toalping up the angle and whom he maybe just as crosser than I thought it was he may be leaning offside there. I mean, you got to check that and it's been checked apparently.
Wow, good defending by Koloney came back.
It was a quick fire attack by our and Katrani's on that left hand side.
You're defending by Kilani.
He's going to get challenged by Katronics who likes to play high and wide from that left back spot.
Got in on the goals last year.
Did Katranis three goals five assists on his campaign signed at the beginning of last season.
It's gonna Gonzalvez. Now we've got to whip this one.
In sign from Copenhagen and August of twenty four, ball comes in headed clear one the most convincing headed by Jonathan Bell. Eventually cleared in the second at ten by the Sounders. Picked up by lunar top of the box given away. Sounders now have a chance to break off the foot of roll Don knocks it down the line.
It's going to be a chase by Christian Rolldan. He's going to chase Quintin, who's about fifteen inches taller than Christian Rolldan and managed to wriggle free of pressure and knock it back and oursell with and Nelly are going to build. It feels like the Sounders are gonna have a big couple of weeks steeds. They've got cruisers who are Wednesday, They've got LAFC an early game again next Saturday, and then they get on the road to play in Mexico on the Tuesday. So they're gonna need all.
That yeah, fire power, all those legs to kind of death figure out about yeah, And it doesn't get any easier, but it's why you want to be at this club. You want to play big games. They're coming ficking faster in the season. I think this group is experienced enough to not be thinking about Wednesday or you know, the LFC game, but you do want to make sure you get the result here. And I think for the Sounder's
just knowing that's on the horizon. Yes, you have the depth and order that to lean on, but you've got to do on the pitch. You've got to get on the pitch and do it. And these guys are fine positions because SMS won. We rotating the line up every single game, and right now he's starting to see who's rising up and who's sort of falling down in stock. So there's there are those little individual battle throughout the season within any team as.
Well, or given away by the Sounders, picked up by RSL. Here's march along the six. It's like from five a little slow to get to it. Just I mean it's Polo jumped in front, goes to the deck credit asking for something, nothing given by the referee. Picked up by cabral in the RSL goal from a back pass from Quinton. But it again it was RSSEL in quick transition. It was a ball giving away by Dela Vega in the
middle of the park. And it's exactly what Brian Schmiza talked about in his comments after the game.
So much to like with Della Vega, but he is so young.
He needs to know when to play and when to give it up.
Yeah, and it's something Brad Evans' spokes about a lot. You've just got to know the right ares to do it. Now, here's the thing.
If you can do that in your own half and pull it off, no problem. But you just want to err on the side of not doing that, choosing the right areas of the pitch to do it.
If you use the ball.
Eighty yards from Gold, who cares you've got you know, you've got your midfield behind your defense behind you when you're trying to be a bit too fancy and clever in your own half in defensive areas, it puts your backland under enormous pressure and sortly had the chance to capitalize. They're kind of a half hearted penalty appill It wasn't a foul, but the sounder is you don't want to invite teams and give them extra opportunities that they haven't earned.
All over the top for Jordan Morris from rolled down Cabral comes out as eighteen clears his lines. No messing around there. Cushion headed by new hoof, flicked around the corner by Vargas but picked up by RSL. Just launchhit long down this near side right the Luna's gonna chase it down. The crowd love that is it? Gonna keep it in just about yeah, keeps it in from going over the inline for a goal kick, knocks it out for a throwing in a chance for RSL to pinching
and defend high up the field. You see a couple of changes that Pablo Mastroeny is gonna make now as we get here in the sixty third minute RSL one Sounders nil.
Nine to fifty kr AM.
Sounds playing the second game of the twenty twenty five campaign is Katrana's the left hand side of the eighteen yard box flicked in no pressure from the Sounders, so from five picks it up on the bounce inside a six yard bucks Sounder's able to breathe again.
I think for a neutral it's a good game to watch because it's pretty open.
I don't think this has been the most high quality game anything like that, but both team's willing to attack. The game kind of hands in the balance there, it's there. I feel there's more goals in this game as well. If I'm brash past I'm just maybe not happy with just how easily stainly keep arriving to Stephan Friday. I haven't made the most of it yet, but then having too much resistance just kind of bypassing the midfield and
running straight a game one. Jonathan Bell on that back line getting a board into white areas inside the sound is eighteen Dawsons will be a little bit concerning for a team that's been so good defensively for the past couple of seasons.
Picked up by Ojeda center, the park rolls it out far side the left to the Katranis who will play with Consalves maintains possession, but today's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Getting here in a sixty fifth minute Sounders trailing one Gold to nil, and this score update is presented by Toyota. Roll down the left hand side to Gonsalves, comes on his preferred right foot into the foot of Luna, who just a rigled free foot reached out by Kilany.
Luna stays in his feet, doesn't go down.
Has Oheter twenty five yards from Gold left of center, goes square to a Nelly, rolls it out to Brown and then one touch out to Marchuk on this near side the right for RSL. So he comes back and away from Gold and are Sell maintaining some pressure and they're attacking third of the field. Ball goes down in behind Mark Chuck maybe inches off side, nothing given by the assistant referee.
Ball goes towards the back stick.
Ball bounces around to Gonzalvez, clear eventually by Kilane. Sounders need to find possession of the ball right now as they trail one goal to nil, twenty five minutes of the ninety remaining. Lots of time for the Sounders, but they need to find a way to get our foot in the ball and try and retain some better possession.
Steve, lots of time, and I do just wonder how long until you can see a sus Ferra come on. I mean he has I think a little bit of on the ball quality that maybe the team needs right now. Another player, extra player can make a quality pass and as where the back of the net is, he's an option and he's there for a reason. So I just wonder how long you let this goal before you.
Bring him on?
As Dela Vega, there's Jordan Morris tries to get in front of Glad. Quintin keeps the balling. Glad was telling him to let it go because potentially came off Jordan Morris. There's Clinton who Quintin, I should say, runs through Kilane, then stumbles over of her falls over and now it stretches his legs saying it's got cramp.
Referee just holding up play.
It's going to be a Sounders throw you while having a word. Referee Ricardo Fierro just holding up play, allowing Quinin to get up, and of course this new rule where players go off, they have to go for two minutes, as we mentioned the first ofvice if it's not a concussion or a yellow card, and you know the stats speak to it, the off field treatment. In twenty twenty four, there was five point two five stoppages per game before the new rule came into play, one point four p
eight after, so it's definitely sped up the game. The ball goes into Quintin, who's maybe struggling a little bit. Is the big central defender nursing a little bit of cramp. Maybe he clears his lines picked up by RSL and Brown in the right back spot, back to Justin Glad pressure from Jordan Morris from behind on RSL's right hand side, right in front of us. As it's flicked around the corner by Marchek, stepped in well by Jonathan Bell.
Here's where the Sounders can go.
Rolled on it out to the left hand side, overlapping run by Ariola and Jordan Morris plays it to Ariola tries to cut it back. Got to let it go. It's going to be a corner kick for the Sounders. Chance for some good delivery from Albert Rosneck and the chance for the Sounders to test kerbrawl and the RSL goal.
Yeah, I think the last five minutes I've belonged to RSL, the Sounders had a good start to SECONDLF came out firing, and that's why Machoine's going through his bench. He's gonna make a triple change here because the Sounders beginning to find a foothold again just in the past couple of minutes here that last attack. Their chance now to get a set piece into the box, hopefully with good quantity, bringing the big guns up from the back.
All comes in by Rosneck towards the fast take. Nothing there just bounces slowly, rolls over and it feels see this field just feels very slow, bounces, it dies, and just the nature of the grass here, it just kind of tricklates out over the end line for a goalkick. But you know, if you feel like you know that these fields that play quick, the Sounders of course playing that, yeah, use a slightly quicker field can cause some challenges.
Sometimes has had an effect on the passing cause I don't feel the midfield trio, which I expected to dominate with all Christian Albert sort of the quick, intricate passes and then getting the ball like wide which we'll see at on the snick field at lumin Field, you're not seeing that today. It's holding up a bit more so I think there has been a factor and you know,
sort oft go into their bench now both teams. I think the game's an the balance I think about, you know, twenty plus minutes pus over for stoppage time.
Both teams can still win this game.
Both played midweek as well, so Lake didn't go well for them, did go well for the Sounders, but both have heavy legs kind of in the same boat here, and the Sounders you have enough depth for You're not worrying too much about wrestling players. You know, Jordan got his rest, Albus had enough rest of the season so far, so you can kind of go for it in his final twenty minutes.
I don't think it's a game where you want to leave points on the table.
Lots of changes and we're gonna try and figure this right out. But it's fors Jiago goes up front for RSL like for like switch for pre Junka's gonna come on the field.
We think it's for mar Chuck, we'll get you those changes, but for the for the.
Sounders, it's Jackson Reagan on Ferrera on kla Off or see if they shift to maybe a three back system and how this works. Now it would be a natural three backs system potentially, but we'll see looks like Jackson Reagan sitting in the middle. Steve, Yeah, March is right, Belcher has left maybe new playing a little higher.
Yeah, No, the new who's gone off, So I think, what, Yeah, he's kind of hard to ease. But I think what they're gonna have is gonna have paul A Riola really work that flank on one side, that A Vega the same on the other side, and then Albert's gonna sit just in front of old Bed and Christian a little
bit tired, really make a triangle in that midfield. And I think the legs and the playing style of de La, Vega and Ariola lends to this in a sense where you can't really have them as wing backs who are maybe more geared towards the attack as you go for this. But I think that sub Is shows branch mens and he starts intent. They want to try and get something out of this game, if not win it, at least leave him with a point. I don't think you want to lose the game on just that new who on goal.
When with the chance that you've had, the amount of ball you've had, the amount of attacks you've had, the quantity you have, it's definitely feel like you've left something on the table.
Well, you can't get much better than we have on the field in midfield and attack right now well, don Obed Rosneck, Ariola, Della Vega, Ferrara, Morris.
I mean that's some serious firepower there.
And if the Sounders are going to find themselves back into the game, these are the players who are going to do it. Quick ball by Farrara, ball down the line to Jordan Morris down the left channel.
It's near side.
Ariola goes into the eighteen yard box, support from behind by Vargas and then Rossneck Square receives the ball on the half turn, looks up, cuts it towards the left hand side, towards Jordan Morris just hugging his left channel. Now he starts to make his way towards the eighteen yard box. Jonathan Bell Tricer wriggle away from Luna, gets away with it. It gives a ball away.
Picked up by Vargas to roll down.
To Ferrara's Jordan Morris could tackle. I think it was a nelly coming in behind. It almost found the foot of Jordan Muller's. Actually it was brown that came across the Sounders looking sharp. It was an inadvertent touched by Ferrara, almost found Morris in stride.
One of the big men come up.
It's gonna be beld Jamar Reagan corner kick for the Sounders. Rosnak goes short, ball goes back to Rosneck towards the top of the eighteen yard box, comes into Ariolho is going to clip it in, wasted by the Sounders, finds the hands of Cabral far too easy. Cabral gets frustrated he can't deliver that ball quicker more quickly and.
For the Sounders. Now they've made their moves.
The Adela Vega an Ariol come on at halftime, and then Ferrera and Reagan have come on. Sound has shifting a four to two three one to a three back system, pushing on their outside backs area, all playing on that left hand side. Well done, maybe sliding a little bit more to that right hand side, Rusnak playing alongside yeah guests in the middle, it.
Might be more of a more of a three four to three, a bit more of that where you have Ferrera, Morrison Delavega kind of your front line, and the Christian will gain more towards the right, you know, Albert and Albert will sit centrally, and then you have a real on the left and then you're back three. So it can be very flexible. I think the exact formation isn't important. He's kind of wear the pressure and up on the pitch,
but he's definitely pushing three high here. Branch Medza and I love this from the sounds early in the season. Maybe you know, you say, you know what, he wasn't our day, We'll lose it. But the ambition he handed the desire is club is a bit high in that sor they're really going for it here, but you kind give yourself a bit more exposed defensively.
All the others that exposure at times all over the top towards Jonqua cut out well, buy rolled on Gonzalvez, who's going to drive forward, clips it around the corner to a Jiago defended well by Reagan, but co's off the sound of central defender over the end line for a corner kick RSL as Kobe Henry gets set to come on, getting some final instructions by the coaching staff. RSEL crowd in it. Good turnout by the RSL on
that home open of this season. Gonna be Gonsalvez, Who's gonna whip this one in from Rsel's left hand side.
One.
I'm up in the air. It's gonna be Inswinger with his right foot clipped in top of the six, headed clear by Reagan. Good defending by Reagan, then hook clear by Ferrera. It's gonna roll slowly over the halfway and far side. Rselves left chased down by Rozneck as them Sounders squeeze up their line.
Of confrontation with Jordan Morris.
He's gonna close down Cabral who comes to this near side of the Diagler ball cushion headed down by body. Hidalgo came on for marchuck on that right hand side, or had shifts it from center to far side to
the left of Gonzalvez tries to roll into Luna. You know, it's been somewhat quiet in this game so far, but he picks up off the heels of Christian, rolled on prussor Rigil free of Yemar, rolls over Lunin right in from the referee, nothing given or Hada has it thirty yards or so from Stepan fries Gold left of center as a nelly to Luna. Sounders eleven men behind the board, just holding their lines six seven yards outside the eighteen
yard bucks left hand side far side for ourselves. They maintained possession with Quintin, so I starts stepping up their lines Farrah playing a little closer to Jordan Morris as Rosneck steps in as well. There's gonna be a lot of fluidity in that attacking makeup. It's you know, Rosnet will be giving license to go, of course, and we know what rolled On can do up and there on that right hand side.
Yeah, I think I have the aim of trying to get a point here to Sounds are going to sacrifice a bit of defensive stability here, So it's gonna be again, that's already open. I've been crying for a bit more control and possession in the midfield, and that's that's not what the game is. This game is very much a transition game. I think the sounders I've leaned into that it's gonna be a lot of back and forth. Just
don't get yourself too exposed defensively. But the attacking players they have on the pitch, I mean, love top quality there. You have to imagine this still maybe one or two, maybe three big chances still awaiting the sound is going to be a question of just taking them.
Seventy five and it's gone straight from distance, straight down the gut of Fry. I think he saw it Lakes, he fell to his knees and he just held onto that shot. Two more changes for RSLF coming up, Kobe Henry and Brian Vera. See if us I'll try to shut up shop somewhat with some experienced players coming off the bench sound as if made their moves attacking. Why certainly it would be great Farrera could find his first
goal in the sounder's shirt as an MLS player. There's some good play by the sound We've seen that before.
Little give and go.
Ariola coming off that left hand side, cuts it towards Jordan Morris as he tries to wriggle free on this left hand side, this near side. As the Sound attack the goal to our left. Ball goes in square flicked on by Roznak. Tough one to handle, but Russell clear the lines. Good step by Jonathan Bell, naws get off his foot he does, plays it to Yeaymo inside his own attacking half of the field, gives it away cheaply.
He comes lunar now in transition.
Ball comes from left hand side, shifts the point of attack to this right hand side to her dalgo closed down by Jonathan Bell.
Top of the box is the RSL Man.
Good pressure by the Sounders back line, tripled teamed by the men in green. Ballbouses into Vargas inside his eighteen no pressure. Sounders play out of pressure well, with Ferrera dropping deep helping his team defensively. Of course we need him in the attacking third of the field as much as we need him in defensive third of the field. As Sounders build out of pressure well fart of ruzzneck to as to look down the line on this near side right in front of Brian Schmitz's bench as they
build out with pressure. But sound as f C socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC.
Of course, big games coming up in just a few.
Days Cruisers Aul first round first game of the two game series and the Round of sixteen of Conkakeef champions Cup coming up on Wednesday at lumen Field and then of course LAFC early afternoon kickoff at lumen Field on Saturday. Arguably the two best teams on paper, certainly coming into this season in the Western Conference. They play against each other early on and then they travel on Tuesday to play Cruisers Aul down in Mexico. No easy test there,
of course. Here's de la Vega. Ball goes in top of the box to roll. Dan tries to slip it through good challenge by Dela Vega, wins at top of the box, or goes into Jordan Morris. Strike by Dela Vega crashes off an nelly all bounces into Jordan Morris inside the eighteen yard box. Manages to turn with it, click down line towards Vargas n line clips it in headed clear top of the boxes. Rosnecks just scuffs his shot into the ground from eighteen or twenty yards out
and then finds off the bounce. It goes into Cabral but the sounders are coming in waves now Steve.
And it's den a Vega. I think he's been very very good. I think that sometimes in that first half the attack felt are very stagnant. The sound is that the best when they're interchanging an attack. You know, player shun up in different positions. This time it was dela Vega on its left time side. We began his run, he lost the ball, but look how quickly he ran it back. He just pressure of that thing was really
really good. Death for the Sounders. One of the hallmarks has been how high to press up the pitch.
They did that.
The quality still hasn't quite been down a final third Albu on that occasion, but the signs are there that there could be going in here for the Sounders.
Here's RSL Sounders need to defend. Now holds the top of the eighteen yard box. RSL had possession thirty yards or so from Stephan Fry's goal. As Brown comes all the way back towards the halfway line to Glads, Sounders eleven men behind the ball. Now just nice and compact sitting outside their eighteen yard box. The ball goes to this near side the right to Hrdalgo. Now Frera starts to put a bit more pressure on Brown as he
goes square into the midfield to in Nelly. Pressure from Rosneck RSL shift the point of attack from center to far side. The left eventually defends Junqua former Dallas man of course, effective left back on the left hand side,
natural left footer as well. Like Catronis was, goal goes into his Jago we'll play it off his chest plays it in here he is one v one on goal the seven and five makee this save, he can't, and it says Jago goes in behind far too easily for the Sounders li King, and it puts Oursel up two goals Sanila here.
And just when the Sounders were maybe looking as I just said, like they may be able to find a goal, give up a very simple goal. And when you really break this down, and we'll see a replay in a moment. Here it's a central run when the team goes roun the guy. Something doesn't seem right. Here's a long goal kick from a goalkeeper to the striker. He chased the ball of Nope and Lierson. Of all of those the two on goals a three hundred and side of the
six shot box. Defensively, that's the worst goal of the bunch sounds given up because that's too easy from the goalkeeper Cabral he pings a ball fifty yards away into his striker's chest.
He's able to chest the ball, play.
A give and goal, getting behind and make a simple finish, almost like a stage training drill, like with no pressure, no tackling, no real attempt.
That goal would disappoint branch Meds.
I think if you're a coaching staff, you're looking want to be a good defensive team, which we have been.
We cannot give up a goal like that.
One goal kick to the strike who ches the ball and no one's on his back, no one's pressuring him, and he's able to give the layoff and then make the run and be the one to finish it. Listen, I was not the best defender, but I'm sorry that there for me. If you're a strong defensive team, you cannot afford to give that kind of goal, especially in the game that you're trying to.
Get points out of. That now looks like it's a further out of reach.
I mean, just far too easy for RSL with or would be likely a bench player for any team RSL trying to find their prolific attacking force, Daniel Laver gets ready to come on. But again for Jackson Reagan stepping in when there's no pressure on the ball, when the player's going in behind, he has to read that play drop off be safety first prevents that ball in behind.
He would have just picked it off, but his commitment forward allowed that huge space in behind, and Johnthon Bell was out of position immediately.
It was a collection of errors.
I think for the moment a juggle was able to chest the ball and then try and play the pass makes you run off the ball with no pressure, you have to the need to be an inquiry into that often that that can't happen, and I think the goalkeeper just plays, you know, a fifty yard pass there in the air that the strike is not challenged at all. And the Sounders are far too good of a team and far too good offensively to have that kind of lapse and allow that kind of It's a soft goal
to give up. And I think this season all the goals have been very preventable. And that's they'll go to the film, they'll watch the film, they'll discuss it internally. But for the game coming thick and fast cruise as Ale LFC. It doesn't get easier, and it seems been very respected in preseason, projected to do very well. A lot seems very high on the Sounders and performances have been good, but you have to match that with results.
And I think this one, if it continues, still a lot of time on o'clock, but it's one that they've got let get away.
Sounds wide open. Now here comes a dalgo down the right hand side, no pressure assistant, flag freeze, flag is down, ball goes back and strike over the top by That was Henry sub that came on Skyes are over the top goalkick Sounders during the eighty second minute RSL two of two preventable goals from the Sounders and the Sounders nils. So tough start to the MLS campaign. Four goals giving up in two games. On our defense, that's been the
best in the league in the last two years. So not the start Defensively, we talked all about working on the offensive side of the field. That's been the focus all preseason. That feels like defensively, which has been their foundation, is you're a shaky at times.
If you're stranger, I don't know how to feel because the performance take today as side. I think every other game designers have played in multiple competitions, it's been positive signs, good performance. Even in the second half. I think that Vega has been very, very good. There's been signs there and it's kind of be a very good offensive team. Defensively, I literally think about the offseason has been so good for the past couple of years, and it's just the
nature of the goals. They're not making teams working. You want to get into the bit of giving golds away own goals. Three hundred and six yard bogs. Listen when I picking in them. List If I had a chance to chest one of Casey Keller's goal kicks and turn with no one pressure me, I wouldn't be able to believe it. So I think the sound is that just
doesn't happen. So I'm not sure where the break down was in communication there, but it's been soft goals for a team of disquality to give up, and that's what will be most of the point of the branch medicine.
Jordan Morris, he's gone off the field now, isn't gonna be able to break Ruy Diez's goal scoring record today.
He's gonna save it for another day.
Branch Metzer maybe just giving him arrest as we prepare for Cruisers all as h Heyed just strides through the midfield and eventually Sounders player and Jackson Reagan steps in and makes a tackle, but Steve zac Cronie just mentions, just a little bit too easy in the middle of
the park. Right now Ferrera has gone up front. Danny Laver came on for Jordan Morris just slots in alongside Vargas in the middle of the park, and then Rosneck just slides back up to that number ten and pushes Ferrera further forward into the ninth spot, and Nelly picks the ball up top of his own et yardbox.
Sound is now putting a bit of high press on.
They have the legs to kind of really push this in these final seven minutes or so of the nineties. We get here in the eighty fourth minute, trailing two goals to nil, nine to fifty, am, don't leave us at the end of the game. Jackson's going to be all a glass half full in his analysis in post game, of course, with Pete and Kellen della Vega has it, ball goes to the right inside. Can they make a change. Here, here's Farrera just tries to clip the ball towards Rosnek,
picked up by Della Vega. Here is Laver who just takes a pop shot from twenty five yards off the angle, goes wide, goal kick Rsel two Sounders nil and Steve zac Quanni. You just feel the Sounders already maybe looking over their shoulder as much as they want to press and get this goal, get on the board, trying and find an equalizer.
But Cruisers all now is waiting in the wings.
Yeah, and that's why Jordan went off.
I think Branch mess have realized once that second goal went in, probably really disappointed, probably very upset, probably a few choice words said, and just says, look, it's not day. I've tried everything I've put on, the players I need to bring on, I've made it changes formationwise, just hasn't been there. You know, when the game started, it looks at the two lineups and I really thought, you know who from the Salt Lake team do I put into
the Sounders at Evan and I couldn't. Really, it is a struggle, and so the game isn't played on Paperbole and you're looking at it, I thought there was a big gap between these two teams. I thought the Sounders were the much better team than with the bench as well, the guys that we knew you could bring on. I mean, it just hasn't played out like that. I think the midfield battle hasn't been one which I expected. It's been
essentially bypassed. It's been a non existentent field for both teams really, where it's gone from back line to back line eighteen to eighteen very quickly, more quickly than you see in a lot of MLS games. The possession hasn't quite been there. It's not so much the percentage number, it's more of the quality of it. You know, the
forty five four to six percent hasn't been there. How many three four five past sequences obviously from the Sounders, how many interchanging where players popping in different positions that we normally see when the team's doing well. It just hasn't been there this afternoon. And listen, it's never too early to ask real questions, and they're going to have to.
There's the ball down the line by for a good quick play. It was an interaction between Ariola for the former FC Dallas. The ball down the line towards Vargas force Glad to come across, knocks it out of bounds. Ariel has it throwing for the sound as ten yards from the corner flag on this near side. The sounders left, of course, wait with baited breath to see what type
of lineup Sounders put out now. Borgos over the top to Areo or inside the eighteen yard but can he deliver across the six bounces away and clear de finds his Jiago stepped in by Jackson Reagan. He's got to win that ball. Now, he's got to get back as a Delgo goes ball over and cut off well by Della Vega and Brian Schmetzer will love that. He talked about Dela Vega's work great defensively in picking his moments, but he's the one that came all the way back
to defend pit. The ball up drove forward. Sounders have possession.
Yeah, And I think you know, we spoke about depth and a lot and earlier season Schmeez has been able to rotate the lineups. At some point you still want to set on a lineup, and I think in the second half there's been a little raised in quality.
I think I think it was an offside.
I think he's a kick off the ball of de la Vega and something very late.
Here, but he did give the free salt Lake here. But I think Dela Vega and Arial to a lesser ex dent. I think just Seoan maybe today they're just still a little bit more quality than Rough Rut and Georgie and I think those who will be in the lineup, and I think if it comes down to what you're talking about, you know, starting eleven, who's kind of ahead on a death chart. I think that La Vegas performances,
honestly on the ball has been very good. Yeah, there's things you wanted to cut out, losing ball in bad areas, but this second half is common.
I think he's been very good.
Well.

Three to one win just a couple of days ago against Antigua, two to two against Charlotte, so you're getting your dose of goals illumined field.
To come out and support the men in Green.
And let's not forget the new initiative push forward by this Sounders first match on US that was introduced to new fans to the Sounders get a taste of that match day experience for anybody that hasn't seen a sound As game before.
More information jump online.
It's a brainchild of likes of Taylor Graham and all that front office staff that does such a wonderful job putting on a credible game day experience for all those fans. As the Sounders continue to top the charts in terms of support in MLS, ball goes into Delava, can the Sounders find a goal in these final minutes to make the last a little bit of this game interesting? Jackson Reagan rolls it into the foot of Dannil Lavery, who rolls out of pressure well, just as he did on Wednesday.
Was impressive against Antigua.
Ball goes to the left hand side to Ariola.
Cuts into his preferred right foot, clips it towards the back stick. Challenged by rolled On, headed clear by Jonco. He's got a challenge and push over rolled On. Assistant referee waited for the reft to put the whistle to his mouth, could have maybe put the flag up quickly. Taken by rolled On. Here comes de la Vega. Ball goes in, nobody making the run. Everyone's static.
That's exactly right, Danny, Dad. They've got a move for the la Vega. He gets inside the eighteen yard box and you have three green shots in there and everybody's standing still. And it's just been that kind of afternoon. I'm not sure exactly what the reason is, but it's been very stagnant and static. When Winger gets into the box like that, make a move, make up his mind, frame a hard run, do something. You can't stand still
when expect the boards to come for you. When you have actually five white shots against free green ones and the Lavega. He had nothing.
He could do. He tries to find Rostack and just got.
You talked about it on your podcast about MESSI right with Keith Costagan and his movement, and sometimes he just walks around the field, but in and around the eighteen yard box when he explodes, and that's all that matters.
That's it.
And then sometimes you can run up and down the field and you can be the tag that player. It works really hard, but at the end of the day, if you're too tired to make that quick run, way it matters. It's all for nothing.
Really, Yeah, I think if you're hungry to score goals and it's del a Vega, guess it's a quick recruit from Christian Road down which goes the Dellla Vega inside the eighteen yard box and you got three of the team. It's just sort of standing still. And when I'm a wing, I would alway take a quick lookup before playing the board and whoever made the hardest run, I'm playing the board into your area. I don't think Delvega had too many options. There wasn't not any favors. But that's not
an isolated play. It's been that kind of evening for the sounders where it's just been off back to the first half seems a long time ago now when Georgie was getting behind the back plan into good positions and.
A final board quite wasn't there.
Whether it's been the run or the past, it just hasn't been connected and not the best way to prepare for a massive game in midweek. But it's what the season's about and the Sounders have to bounce back.
The Sounders have got the experience, no question about that. The question now is how can they bottle that up? Forget about it? Short term memory is the key for any professional sportsman. As where you mentioned in the first half, can they now focus in on a big game on Wednesday? Still a couple of minutes left here? Three minutes about it? Time ball goes in the box one two with Freer and del Vega. Again good ball top of the sixth, But hasn't that made the run on the wrong side
of Justin Glad? Maybe take the chance and get in front, and I think that's I know when I was playing, he was always about taking a chance. You might not get every single one, but if you get one out of ten and you guess right and you nip in front, that's the goal that could potentially win a game. Yeah, all goes in behind to frou So what's the endline? Just lets it run, goes over the end line, it's
going to be a goal kick. Two minutes left here in Sandy, Utah Sounders trailing two goals to nil to RSL, and this first Western Conference matchup of the season, it's not been a great start and MLS plays so far for the Sounders, they've played well in vast periods.
They just haven't been able to execute in the final third today.
And that's the problem then, because if you want playing war, teams aren't playing you. Okay, we've got a lot to figure out. Branch person he stlf. I'm kind of scratching the head, like you know, we'll get into the right positions. We're creating chances. You know, a lot of our players are playing well. We should have won at home last week comfortably. We're giving up really bad goals. So the fix isn't quite as simple as doing Oh the tea's
playing really bad. We've got to make changes. We've got to change the formation, we've got to change the lineup. It's not those sorts of fixes you're talking about It's all about very basic concentration issue, just a bit more effort defensively, staying of your runners, communication between goalkeepend defender, things like that. So I think the fix is a bit a more difficult one in that sense because you're doing a lot of the right things. We all like
what we've seen from the team. Maybe not so much today, but the other games, especially attacking why has done really well, but the results haven't been there, so we've dropped a lot of points.
So when you played and you were playing at a good level and you felt good, both the players on the field felt hey, we've got this. Is it just a matter of time and patience? Then let the game come and the results will come, or is it.
I think that you've got a lot of experience. You know, Russ Snag rolled down Morris Fred. They're not gonna panic. No, Joe Potter's on the bench, You're not gonna panic. Branch is not gonna panic. But I think you do need some urgency because you have the pieces there. You know, the team was projected very high for a reason, but when you start playing below that in terms of individual
basic mistake, these aren't coaching errors. I think the coaching stars put the players in the right position to succeed. Today they went for it with the substitutions. I think sometimes as a players, you go in the lock croom, you look in the mirror. This is on us, and today's one of those performances. I don't think you can
point the thing at the lineup, the tactical changes. It's been more sort of players on the pitches haven't lived up to what they should have done, and that would be disappointing.
Fell and rolled on.
Is he.
Stays in the ground. It just got nick and then he landed on awkwardly, maybe on the knee.
Maybe it's the fall more so than the collision.
His goalscorer Forster Jago, who clipped the heels of Christian rolled on, still down on the deck. No medical staff on, of course, as you mentioned, the new rule preventing it. But hold on, there's a lot particularly comfortable right now.
Is he's grimacing in some discomfort?
Yeah, and there's not another player that stays down too much. You know, obviously you know you'll have the rule in mind, you don't, you know, you know, your last resort for the trainers actually was skeptical of that rule initially, I think it's actually you read a start out earlier. It sped the game up a lot. I saw another proposal today for a new rule with the corekeeper holds the board for eight seconds. Yeah, the defending team gets a corner kick. Would you know if that ever passed them?
That's for me.
It's actually been signed off, I believe for the starts in the summer. It's actually it's been checked on four hundred different games. You used to have the six second rule that it just kind of got ignored.
That gets ignored a lot. Yeah, so given a corner kick holder, it'll speed a game up. But good, see Christian back up on his feet. Now we're engine towards the end. I think for sound is an empty game. It feels very disappointing. It's again that Yeah, you went into this game thinking probably three points. If you saw Charlotte, you saw salt Lake when LFC was coming for the FOO game of the season, four points, six points from that and said.
You've got one.
So definitely definitely lots of question marks.
Well, thanks Steve. Let's get to the stats for the game. Salt Lake winning two goals to nil. Here in Sandal Utah Knew who owned goal in the eighth minute, and then it was subsolute forced to a Jago who ran through slot the ball in the bottom corner of Fry's goal in the seventy ninth minute to make it too nil. And the Sounders now need to shake that one off because as they get ready for their game on Wednesday night.
So it's a quick turnaround for the Sounders as they will be back at Lumenfield on Wednesday to take on Cruises All in the first of two games of the next round of the Conkercaff Champions Cup. And as they say, there are more important things than football at times. Yes, the results important, but let's say another congratulations and best of luck to Alex rolled On not on the trip today and is welcoming his first child we think this weekend,
So congratulations Alex. Lots to celebrate there inside the clubhouse. But for now we'll take short break. Jackson Pheltspete Feu and Kellen Rowe. We'll be back to break it all down from America First Field in Sandy, Utah. It finishes rails late two Sounders Milk.

The Sounders FC postmat show starts now.
Well, it's a tough, forgettable game from Sandy, Utah's your Sounders fall once again into real sal Lake on the road by a score of an eighth minute own goal from New Who and then you have a seventy ninth minute dagger by a Jago as Salt Lake get the two they need and get the three points over seat today, Welcome into the postgame show. Jackson, Feltz, Kelen Roe, Pete viewing here for the next twenty to thirty minutes here, So as we react to this game, break it down,
look at things big picture. Let's just start in on initial reactions to what happened. Kellen, I'll start with you. Pete.
Jump in on the Sounders two nothing lost today. Well, the Sounders didn't do the little things right. For me, it was it was the little things. You know, can you move away from your defender f with with two quick steps, can you move after passing the ball, can you find the right pass, pass it to the correct foot so the guys can turn or not get in the defensive end. And then you know, following your mark in the box, heading the ball outside the goal, not
inside the goal. I mean, it's the little things that come of it. Now, there are positive in this game, and we'll get to that as we go through it. But the first initial hit is it wasn't good enough. It was a little bit if to me, it felt like a preseason game that it didn't care enough. Maybe it was that it didn't they didn't care enough to go after it a little bit and it was a little lasadaisical.
So you know, for me, it wasn't It wasn't a great game, but there were some positives.
Yeah, and it's the second game of the year, so that's one thing to remember.
But I just think we were flat and I don't know if it's we've been playing a lot and then we've got a big one coming.
Up with cruz Azul.
Did we look at it and say, hey, RSL just lost four nothing to San Jose and that was a San Jose team that struggled over the last few years, so this should be a walk in the park.
Did the altitude get to them? But we just weren't sharp.
We didn't come in with that. Kellen's right, the little things. Gosh, if you just sprint in front of your defender to get to the near post, that little bit of movement, it might draw a defender and might open something up from behind you.
But and then giving away the goal. You know that, Gosh darn it that it's a simple one.
Right.
There wasn't an RSL player in the box or near in the box, but not anywhere near that ball.
So a little unfortunate, I know.
For me, I've been so excited about the new additions and the team where it's at, and I think the players have been that. There's been that kind of energy, and I think we all kind of say, oh, that's right, we're in the MLS and you're playing at RSL, And you said it before the game, Jackson, we have won in fourteen there, right.
We haven't had a win fourteen you're going to be fifteen. Yeah, yeah, And so you look at it and you say, that's right. This is the MLS.
It's a grind, and there's good players and they want to win obviously, and they were in a desperate spot themselves, right, you know. And again we talked about before Paul Austriani can light fires that can get teams going.
And this game does come down to a little bit of luck.
And sometimes the luck comes because you make that near post run right and and uh, and sometimes it goes against you.
So that's a tough one, you know.
The bright spot for me in the second half dala Vega coming in, Pedro I thought was really good on the right hand side.
Ariola. I like the energy that he brings. But we need to put some goals away. But again, guess what we're back in.
We got four competitions, uh this season and the MLS is starting, and it's it's a little reminder that this is not and you're never going to step on the field in that green jersey and not get a tough opponent.
Well you mentioned it there, coach, Like, I know, there's a lot of competitions, but you've got to change your mindset with each game. If you go in from the Conker Calf, you know you're playing Antigua. No offense wouldn't tall They played well. They are not as good as Salt Lake. In a transitional sense of a year, the MLS is much better, much more. It's harder travel, it is elevation, it is a warm day in Sandy Utah. It's a lot faster paced, it's a more physical game.
This is a different game than it is going to play Antigua, a different game than it gives going to preseason, than going to play in the Open Cup, than playing in the League's Cup.
Do you have to change your mindset?
And I don't think that mindset was there today because we all have the talent, they have the ability, they have the technical ability.
It's the mindset that gets over that next run. And it's the fact that both of the goals we've frankly and this Steve Zacchawani said this on the broadcast, all of the goals we've conceded this year have been preventable, and especially you look at the two today, both of them very preventable. And it's frustrating for a defense that was the best in the League in twenty twenty four. To be four games into this season and be saying
that it's very frustrating. And on top of which I mean, p you mentioned it, I mean, it's just the lack of offensive runs, the lack of belief, the lack of anticipation that the pass is coming and be ready for to make a run, to be ready for a pass, to be in a certain spot to put it in a back of the net. It's that offensive movement in the box that just wasn't there today.
Yeah, and they can show it on the video, right, And there was one where Albert at the end was just standing there's a defender right in front of him.
Jordan had a couple of those as well. If they can show them that.
And really, Danny Jackson said, you know, we used to have drills where you would just one guy would run to the near post every single time, and then he'd loop back around and then the next guy would come through. But if you're stagnant, it makes it very very easy for teams to get numbers in the box and the ball's not going to go through your opponent. So I thought it hard enough. Yeah, yeah, that's true, And I feel for sta it might go through. Yeah, I feel
I feel for Fry on some of the goals. I thought maybe the first one with Charlotte, he probably wants that one back. He probably comes out and punches it out. But the second one you couldn't do anything with Charlotte. These goals today knew whose goal against us. The own goal, I don't think Fry could have done anything and the and the finish was a good finish, the similar to what Morris did last week against Charlotte.
For those who didn't hear, I want to talk about what happened in that own goal because obviously the Sounders' second goal come is they have to change the lineup, really push numbers and that's why they lose to nothing. But it is that first goal that changes the game. I want to talk about that the next break, next segment, excuse me, I will tell you that Sounders FC Soccer
is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Show Sounders falling today at Royal sal lega final score of two to nothing down there in Sandy, Utah. It is time for our Emerald Queen Casino play the match. This was a match in the first half. At the end of the first half in a one nothing game, Sounders looking to stay in it and Stephen Fry came out big.
Gonzalvez whips it in towards the back stick headed down save by Fry was two defenders on the who was a Nelly on the back post?
And the play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. And I will say also it wasn't a win today, but this season when the Sounders win, you'll win a free MK chicken the next day, exclusively in the McDonald's app with any minimum two dollars purchase down on the McDonald's app today and check out the deals waiting for you. I mentioned that last segment there the own goal from knew Who in the eighth minute, and we did talk a
little bit about it on the halftime show. But for those who didn't hear, you know Callen obviously we see a moment where a cross comes in after the play is over, knew who is saying, I couldn't hear you, Steph. I couldn't hear you. So it was clearly some sort of miscommunication. But either way, he heads the ball down and then onto his own frame and into the back of the net. What did you see from that play? From new who?
What do you think might have happened? Whether you hear Steph? Not here, Steph, you know where you are on the field. It just it was it was not a good play. I don't know how else to explain it, but it wasn't a good play. But you know, and coach can attest to this. I knew this growing up, and everyone has taught me beforehand since I've played. Whether you're gonna get smashed by your goalie, and if you want to take it, if you hear anything, if you don't hear anything,
you clear that ball. As a defender, you clear that ball. And it could happen at half field when you're going up for a header and you know, hey, this is how many times have you heard this?
This is going to hurt, but I gotta do it.
That is the professionalism that you're not saving yourself for anything. This this is this is ninety minute game. You're you're you're throwing it all out there. That's why you're a Seattle Sounder. That's what the fans want, that's what you should want as a professional. But you know, it's it was a lapse of judgment, and you know he's got it. We've talked about the short memory.
You got to move on.
Yeah, short memory, that's good.
I had a little snapshot of Casey Keller when we were playing Kansas City, maybe in the first or second year, and he went to scoop the ball out of.
Bounds because he thought he was getting pressure.
There was no one there, there was no Kansas City player, and instead of scooping it out of bounds as he was diving across his body it's going to his left, he scooped it with his right hand, he threw it into his own net and and like that just does not That is the one time in Casey's career is a player in practice ending games that would happen.
Let's hope that these two own goals. We got it behind us. Let's yeah, let's move on.
And yeah, that was a lapse from you knows. As the guys were talking steviean Danny. You know, the defense has not been an issue for the past two years, and so sometimes you get a little comfortable, and so this is a.
Reason there's no complacency there.
Maybe.
I mean, we obviously worked on that in the preseason it was all about the attack, and the off season it was all about finding ways to get goals now because we were.
So confident that we were not going to have this problem.
So is that a little bit of complacency from I wouldn't say the players, the coaching.
Staff, us right eat, all of the above. Yeah, because I liked the lineup today. I was excited about the lineup we got it yesterday, and I was excited about the subs that he made. But we just didn't do the job, you know, and so that that's where uh, players, Kellen, the question I have for you is, what's the what's the locker room like with Brian knowing we have the quick turnaround, knowing it's cruise.
Brian yelling in that locker room right now?
Why?
Look, it's it's tough to say because Brian actually knows how to light a fire as well.
No, he really doesn't.
I think I think in this scenario because of the quick game, and it's gonna be a different competition. On Wednesday against Cruis Azool that he was louder at halftime and more disappointed at halftime than he was, you know, after the game. And I think there are going to be some choice words. I think there's going to be things that I cannot repeat on here. But I also think it's going to come from the players. I think
it's going to come from Christian rolled On. I think it's going to come from Steph and Frye absolutely, and honestly, I think it's going to come from a guy like Albert as well, because this is a this is a hard game to go play against the place that you were the guy, yeah, in Salt Lake City where he played for many years and was an incredible player for them, and then to come back in and not be able to win, not be able to score, and not be able to get those things at this place where he
you know, it probably got booed right when he walked on the field.
I know these fans, Yeah it happened.
So Freddy Waris as well, Freddy Waris as well.
Dandy, you know it.
Just I think they're gonna have. I think there's gonna have some choice words and they've got to turn it around. And look, I think we talked about it early in it. How much longer are we going to have this rotation? Well, this doesn't help those guys that are looking for that rotation because it wasn't a quality game, and you're going to start to see that same eleven kind of start to push out a little bit more with maybe one or two guys changing it up.
You said something really smart at the halftime show. This is only making Brian's job easier. I always say things part I mean the smart things, lots of smart things. I talk good. This only this only makes Brian's job easier for the rotation because now, okay, well Georgie Paul,
I mean, listen, guys, Alex roll don As you're right back. Yeah, very very clearly, we're seeing the established players who who fit into a best eleven if everybody is healthy and if you don't have to fix your congestion, so you know,
the leaders will speak up in the locker room. And I also hope knew who raises a hand and saying my bad, I shouldn't be heading it on my own frame headed out, you know, so I would I would hope that knew who would would would be able to step up and and and it's funny, this is what if you're in the locker room and you kind of put your head up and say, you know that that one's that one, right that was on me, and every single person, every single person goes, don't worry about it,
Just don't you know, cover the next one. I want you to save three goals this year. I just hope you would do that. It's it's not the thing is that it's it's an.
Unspoken thing in that locker room where it doesn't need to be said that next week or that next game. You are in it like you are. You are locks like lockdown, solid, no matter what. And then it trusts again. It's just one of those things as a player, you know, once you step off the field, you're that that's done right now you have to go back and do it
again and do it better. And it's almost an unspoken thing where that you get your trust back the immediate second that you're you're clearing the ball off the line or you'd.
Make a good tackle, it's like, all right, well he's back.
Yeah, there's a great one that Sir Alex Ferguson took from a guy named doctor Tuckman who is a business guy, and it was forming, norming, storming, right, performing, Yeah, and then Sir Alex took it and said, we're going to add performing to it. So right now it's game two, so we're in the you know, forming, right we're figuring out what our team is, norming, who's gonna start, who's gonna sub right, storming, who's gonna get after it?
And then who's performing?
And right now there's gonna be some guys that are going to say, man, I didn't perform well and I might have lost my chance, And that's you're right, Brian's job gets a little easier on that. But for now, for now, and and and you know, we have the luxury right now of having just a large palette to choose from of players.
So it's there's.
Gonna be the new leaders in the locker room this year. It'll be interesting, is it going to be one of the new guys who's come in? Is somebody gonna step in as a leader and get a little bit louder. Maybe it's Christian, It's a little louder.
This year. Maybe try gets a little louder.
This year, but I'm confident between players and coaches they'll get it right.
But today today was not ideal.
Let's move forward, cruise a Zool Wednesday Cocker Calf round to sixteen. Let's talk about what Brian Spencer could do against a Mexican powerhouse coming to town at lumen Field on Wednesday. That's next on the postgame show, following a Sounders two nothing loss in Salt Lake here on Sports Radio nine fifty km.

There's no better way to wake up.
Try McDonald's hearty steak, egg and cheese bagel with a juicy steak patty and grilled onions, fluffy eggs and melty cheese, or try one with smoky bacon or savory sausage.

You're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's sports Radio nine point fifty KJR.
Welcome back to the postgame show.
Sounder is falling today at Salt Lake by a final score of two to nothing. But it's time to move on from that because this team is once again in pursuit of CONCACAFF Champions Cup glory Round of sixteen Leg one against Mexican power Cruise Zool. That comes on Wednesday, March fifth at seven thirty pm at Lewinfield. No radio broadcast for this one, but folks, you can watch it on FS two. You can also be there sounders fc dot com slash tickets for if you want to be
there at Lumenfield for Wednesday's match. By the way, next MLS game will be Sat next Saturday, back at Lumenfield against LAFC one pm Providence. We just prematch show one thirty kickoff at Lumenfield against LAFC. That'll be on ninety three point three KJRFM. That's the next MLT next MLS action and obviously LAFC massive massive game that is. But first it is the Round of sixteen in Conca Calf
it is Cruise A Zool. It's big and Kellen as we talk about you know guys, you know saying to Brian Schmitzer, by my play, I deserve more playing time. Based on Concorcaf action so far, based on the MLS action so far, what do you think we roll out in terms of a lineup of coming up on Wednesday against Cruise A Zool.
Well, you know, I think it kind of depends on Alex ordn situation whether he's had the birth of his child or not true. If that has happened and he's willing be able to get back and his wife allows him to go play, I think he's gonna be your solidified right back. Obviously at the Jackson and game are goin to solidified, You're gonna go back to that back line and with seven frying goal, that is the stability
that you've had the past two years. And then you bring back in Christian and Novid as a six that six kind of block to sit back there and make sure nothing happens and you're at home. Obviously you want to create things for me. Obviously in the Coca Calf and and in today a very good performance by Pedro. Yeah, De la Vega was incredible. He came on, he was energetic, he was creative, he was clean on most of the touches, he worked back multiple times, he won balls on top
of the box. I actually really enjoyed Jesus Ferrara when he came in. He has such a calmness to everything he does. He's an incredible finisher, but he's first one for his first option is always to set someone else up. I mean he had multiple times when when they did have good sequences of three, four, five, six passes, Jesus was at the bottom of all of it, and he was the one that was was creating and finding spaces and making sure guys were running around and so.
And then you have obviously a.
Paroiola who was a stability, stable player and be where you put him. I think there's going to be changes of where you put him throughout this year because he can play multiple positions. But we'll get to that, you know, later on in months from now when when you see it and it's hard not to start Jordan Morris up top. Yeah, it's the middle of the park that you're gonna it is aber gonna go and play it again after playing ninety minutes and coming off obviously the injury that he's had.
Does Hazus come in and play that number nine that he did when he was in the cocka caff and continue to play there? There's there's there's a lot of question marks, but I think he's Brian Spencer's got again a little easier job now for the starting eleven, and then now it's.
Yeah, I wou I would agree with that. Players can't really argue if they're not starting. You typically and this team doesn't do it. You typically don't have too many wholesale changes. But you also look at the depth we have and you can't argue Pedro coming back in Alex coming back in oh but in Christians sitting in the middle of the park. You know, I wonder what JP might be saying, Hey give me a chance.
Right, Danny Leva as well, Yeah, it's good touches he had today. He was very solid, got himself out of position or out of situations that were pretty tough to get out of, and pretty.
Decent shot with confidence from exist. Yeah.
I like the way he's he's progressing, but it's you know, again, how hard does it take off your Christian road on and your ovid fargus.
Yeah, you know how hard does it take them off?
Yeah?
And the other thing is this Cruise Azuel game is something that all those players want to play against. You know, Pedro de la Vega Argentinian, Right, he's going, yeah, I would love to play against that team.
Right.
So it's a world known club.
So there will be a bump, right, And you hate to say it, but there's probably some truth that they're not saying, well, I'm really fired up play at RSL, right, but you you can say I'm really fired up to play against Cruise Azuels so at home, at home exactly.
So.
It'll be curious.
But to your point, Jackson, I think Brian it's it's on Brian to pick the lineup and no one can really argue after today's perform.
Well, it's sort of like twenty two CCL Calen where you had club. I was this the quarterfinal round and first round, first leg of that was at home and y'all beat layone three nothing, and then I want to I don't know if it was one to one down there. It was one one, but still that first leg you take the three nothing lead and just okay, like, yeah, we have to go on the road second leg, but look at what we just had. So I'm it was sort of one of those things where Andrews pulled up
the exact situation here. Yeah, it was. It was that quarter final where the first leg was three three nothing and then one one. So like, you know, if you can jump on them, and if you can build momentum and if you can get that kind of a lead, you know, then you're going in next Wednesday saying okay, we have a we have a lead. Let's just do the same thing we begin to lay on in twenty two. You would think.
So it wasn't like it was some easy game. That one to one game is oh so difficult. Now we played, we put five in the back and they were pounding, pounding, patting. I think we went down one zero or no, we were up one zero. I think Jao Paulo with a goal from distance ish is inside the box, but I think it bounced into him and he just put it
away and they scored late, if I remember correctly. But uh, it's it's not as easy as we talk about, you know, playing these games and going up three zero and then having to go. Look, it's very very possible, but they're they're objective here is just to get a win. And if they can get a shutout, amazing, because you want those goals later on. To go to Mexico and and and win a game is very.
Hard to do.
It's very hard to do. And even in that cockacaff Ron, I don't think we did. We tied, We tied, tied to it's hard to go in and get those wins.
So if you can knock down a win here at home and get a result, just a result away, that's how you progress in this in this tournament.
Once again, no radio broadcast on Wednesday for that, but we will be talking to you guys once again a week from today Sounders l AFC at lumen Field and we hope to see with Lumen for Sounders and Cruise a Zool on Wednesday night.
