Welcome to the Sounders FC Post match Show. Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Post Match Show starts now. It's a final here from lumen Field Sounders two Timbers two. Let's head down to the field and hear from head coach Brian Schmitzer. Thank you Jackson. Yes, I'm here with head coach Brian Schmutzer. Coach. Obviously some moments in tonight's match. I'm sure you're very
proud of with your with your players, but overall a disappointing outcome. Your initial thoughts after this one, Yeah, we're given two points to our art's rival. Well we gave him one, but I mean we lost two points, two critical points that could have helped us down the road. So it's unfortunate given the timing of when this is happening, knowing that you guys are off for the next two weeks, I mean, how do you address this one with the team is at one where you just want to forget about it?
Or do you try and find learning moment? We got to learn from it, because look, Leo choose a tremendous young talent. But he was a little rash. You know, maybe I should yank him off, but it was a fifty third minute. I usually don't pull guys off at their starters at early. He just got a no better. He's got a no better that. Okay, celebrate taking a shirt off. Okay, it's a learning curve the rest of the group. I mean, they busted their butt.
We'll look at the goals. We'll see if there was anything we could have prevented. But when you're playing down a man motivated opponent, you know, we gave him two goals. A couple of weeks off. Like I mentioned before, the final stretch, only six matches left this season, two at home. What is the focus of these next two weeks before you guys get to play your next match. Well, we'll just have to get everybody through the two weeks. Nobody likes to train, and then look, we've
got some winnable road games. We'll be prepared for the home games. You know, we still have a good chance. We're still in good position. He said it to me at halftime, just how special tonight's crowd was. Any message for them tonight, Yeah, they're still chairing. They're still here on the field. They were great tonight. Sorry we couldn't finish you finishing Timbers off tonight, coach. Is never easy talking after a loss. Thanks so much for your time. Thank you, Jackson. Never easy talking after
a loss in two to draw here. You know, it's interesting because it kind of does feel that way. Jackson Felts and Chance Fry here for the post match show. Thanks to Michelle Ludka for grabbing Schmenzer down on the field. There's a lot of emotions involved here. Chance. It ends too two, like we mentioned, so let's start with this on one side. This is a Sounders team that went into the half up two to nothing, and we talked to the halftime show about controlling emotions. We talked to the halftime
show about what they needed to do. I'm not playing recklessly. We even talked about Leo Chew having a yellow card because of taking a show up. We'll get into that here over the next half hour. And you give up two goals and go down a man. There's that very very disappointing side. I will also throw out the other side, which undoubtedly some fans may have, which is listen, we were down a man for forty seven plus minutes.
We had to eke it out after Portland was just on fire there, scoring in the sixty seventh and seventieth minutes, and it felt like a little bit like what was about to happen again happened, you know, in months ago down in Providence Park, and that didn't happen. The defense came together, they played strong, they played together, they didn't let Portland get a third and at least you get one point out of it. So there are
different glasses to look at this from. But the immediate emotions chance, as Brian Schmenzer sure sounded, it does feel and as Michelle sort of the Freudian slip said, it does feel in some ways like a loss. Yeah, I think that definitely everybody's disappointed. I think we were also kind of lucky that after Portland got their second call they kind of took their foot off the gas. It seems like they could have put us under a lot more pressure.
Unfortunate for the players out there who were still in the field. They had to suffer badly for forty five months. All the guys were just running their tails off, and that that could have definitely been avoided. You know that we talk about this shirt coming off and everything, and you know, maybe that rule should change because we want to see celebrations and stuff. But they know that rule. And I can just tell you personally, it angers
me beyond belief because it's so controllable. Okay, there's it's it's not just like throwing up your arm and doing something. You are fully taking your shirt off and you have lots of time to think fat through. I know he was excited to get the goal, but what it does is it just handcuffs you into not making a mistake. And what happened in the second half when he miscontrolled the ball and then went in. He's excited, he's young and
everything, and then he goes through the guy in the tackle. It was definitely a yellow card and you got a red card and a Schmetz said he I think when he's thinking about it again, he might want to pull him off earlier. But you know what, as he says, Leo has got to be able to control himself there. It wasn't like he was trying to save a goal. It was way out yeah at half flame. And that's the frustrating part because you look at the situation that could have very easily happened,
you. I mean, and I know that there are people out there who look at it from you know, I understand Brian has to play with the emotions and a little bit of locker room politics, right, don't take off a starter all that stuff, and Leo should know better, right, But in the same sense, we've talked extensively, you know, both in interviews, press conferences, production meetings, about the lack of balance defensively when both Morris and Chew are on the wings, and if you're leading to nothing
and one of those wingers has a yellow card, doesn't it just make the obvious sense to put on your captain of you know, eight years Nicholas Ladero and take off Chew slide russknack Right, suddenly a you have defensive balance, be you don't have a yellow card on the field, you don't have to worry about that. I mean, it just there is all these things that kind of just goes oh man, they it would have been such an obvious and easy move there at the half and I know he doesn't want to do
it, but it seems so obvious. Well, and I think that was probably the plan, right, they're getting you know, Nicholas warmed up and everything. Want to make sure that he's warm and that he can go a good you know, however many minutes they want him to. Yeah, I mean, you know, it's it's hard. Once again, I've said this before when I've been on the air, I don't ever want to second guest
Brian because he's been so successful. I think that's one he'll probably think about a little bit though, just because the way it turned out, right, and you know, ten more minutes Leo's off, uh and Nicholas is coming on and everything, and we probably go on to win comfortably. It was. It was unfortunate, but on the flip side of it, you know, five points in three games pretty good, right, And we didn't break
the streak against Portland. That part is a little bit unfortunate. But you know, the guys banded together and they gave up too, but they worked their tails off. Yeah, gotta give him credit for that because you kind of update it now, so all time in this here is serious history. And it's now fourteen fourteen and nine. Seattle now winless in their last six
against the Timbers. Is now the total of those six matches is now thirteen to four, which goes back to that six to two win back a couple of years ago, and still haven't beaten the Timbers here at Luminfield since May of twenty seventeen. That is just that eats at my heart, considering that this team was up to nothing. If you're just joining us, you're listening to the postgame show Sounders two Timbers too. We'll quickly go over the goals

following a two to two match against the Parland Timbers. Well, let's rattle up threw some positives from this game tonight after we were kind of down there in the first sement. I'll tell you that tonight's Toyota Man of the match with the big goal is rowl ruy Diaz. He found himself in a bunch of dangerous spots today, Chance fries player to watch and he certainly proved it today you look at Toyota Dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match.
But it's now time for the Emerald Queen Casino Play of the Match. We're gonna go to the thirtieth minute where Leo Chew broke away and then took us jersey off and he's Leo chu in behind, got some time in space, setts himself top of the books. Won't be wanted sides today and it's a second goal for the sounds and it's a cool can finish by Leo Chew. There's fourth goal on the year. The great goal there from Leo Chew that made it to nothing in the play of the match was presented by Emerald
Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Ah. That was a great moment chance and it was just like there we go. And I just kept saying, I think I kept saying for about thirty minutes, including on the halftime show, don't waste it, don't waste it, don't waste it, don't waste it, don't waste it. Unfortunately they wasted it. And it is a two two final. But listen, I don't want to continue with the negatives. There's been a lot of negativity and I feel it deep
down right now. Can't let it bubble up. Let's talk some positives overall. Look, and we mentioned it in the first segment very quickly. This team was down a man for forty seven plus minutes fifty two including stoppage time, and they played well defensively outside of those two goals. And that's out of those two moments. I think over the ninety minutes plus they played well defensively other than those two moments. Raoul looked good chance. There were some
positives to draw from this. Yeah, no, absolutely, And even when we were down, we had some really good moments. We held the ball, we got forward, we had a couple of half chances. No, they were they were great. Uh. In the middle of the park, y'all, Paulo was solid, obed before he went out, he was solid. Alex Roldan he was, you know, right back. And then he moved into the midfield and he seemed really inspired, was getting the ball, holding it, spinning around. I thought. Nicholas when he came on,
did well. So overall the team did well. I mean everybody worked so hard. I mean, Jordan was running his tail off upfront, knew who was bombing down the left hand side, Yamar and Jackson in the middle. We're fighting. You know, Stephen was fine. I mean the only goals that got by Stephen were you know. I mean the second one is world class calls Greg go by Evander, Yeah, excellent goal. You can't take anything away from him. So Jordan Morris ran his tail off. You mentioned
it right there. I mean, when the Sounders were down a man. He's your loan forward when Raoul comes off for Nico and he's having to make you know, fifty yard runs over and over and over on balls kind of sent towards the corner, and you could just see how tired Jordan was.
You mentioned Alex Roldan. He was really cool because we saw reed Baker Whiting come on late in the match for Joel Paulo in the eighty third minute, and for that final twelve minutes or so, we saw Alex Roldan shift up in the midfield almost the exact position where he played for Pete Viewing at the Seattle University and and when in that spot you could see him get he got infigured he had energy towards his game. You saw him making a lot of
good runs and getting involved in the midfield. Loved that from Alex Roldan and would love to see more of that. That was a lot of fun. So some positives to draw, but listen. As Brian Spencer told Michelle Ludka there at the start of the post match show, there's a lot to learn from two weeks off and they will certainly be taking these two weeks and learn
from what happened tonight here in this two two game against the Timbers. Well tells to Airline's Proctor, donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season the Ray Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. We'll talk about the break, we'll talk about the week ahead for the club. More coming up next on the postmatch show sports Radio nine fifty KJR. AM, you're listening to the home of Saunders FC, Seattle's Sports Radio nine fifty
KJR. Welcome back to the post match show from a nearly empty Lubin Field where the Sounders and Timbers played to a two two draw tonight. Seattle lad two goals to nothing, Leo Chow sent off with a second yellow, Portland scores twice and Sounders hold down defensively from there for the final forty minutes or so, thirty minutes or so, and it is a two two final. I will also tell everybody that unfortunately, with this draw, the Vancouver Whitecaps
have just clinched the Cascadia Cup. So Vancouver has the Cascadia Cup. With a win, the Sounders had a would have a chance to theoretically win that if they had beaten then Vancouver coming up in a month, but because this was a draw, Vancouver has the Cascadia Cup. Well. Looking ahead for the Sounders, they do have next weekend off and then they're back at it coming up on Saturday, September sixteenth, so two weeks from today. It's going to be a game at Frisco, Texas at Dallas FC. Prematch show,
our provident Swedish prematch show will start at five pm. Kickoff at five thirty Pacific time. They're at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. You can watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TVP or listen in Spanish language on LRA thirteen sixty, but I encourage you to listen right here sports Radio at nine fifty KJR AM. They're in two weeks on Saturday, September
sixteenth for Sounders in Dallas and Chants. This is a two weeks Undoubtedly the players will have a little bit of time off international duty for Rawl Ruidiaz and others. Roll was called up for Peru and after scoring night, he certainly feels good going into international duty. For a lot of these guys, they will have a couple of days off and you know, work begins to learn from this frustrating game and look ahead to the final six games of the season.
Yeah, and they'll need a couple of days off after running their tails off in the second half of man down because that is hard. I've been in that situation before and it is not fun. But hopefully they come back positive. Hopefully nobody gets injured on any international duty and they come back healthy and ready to go and take on the three games that are coming up. Like you said, at Dallas and then got Colorado on at Nashville. They're spread out a little bit, but it'd be nice too to keep on a
roll here. You know, it did feel like a little bit of a gut punch, but we gotta stay positive and the team is moving forward. The last three games have been positive. Yeah, exactly, no losses in the last three. We just gotta, you know, keep it going and right into the playoffs and then you get this team hot come playoff time. Chance, you nailed it today. You said the Rovalry Diaz was gonna have
a day. He scored and was in on a bunch. You said after Leo Chi shook his shirt off that oh god, you know you don't want something happening in the second half, and then it did. Predictionwise, you nailed it today, Chance Fryan, so well done. I wish I wasn't right on that point. I know, right, so yeah, but hey man, great stuff. Always going to have a call with you, Chance Fry, Sounder's legend. Great call today from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans.
My name is Jackson Felts. We thank you so much for listening. Also thanks to Chris Kidd back in the studio, Lloyd and Keeley here on site for keeping everything on the rails. We will talk to you coming up in two weeks for the next Sounders match, and then of course Sounder's Weekly coming up on Wednesday. A lot ahead for the Rave Greens, so make sure you stay tuned. But back here at Lumenfield, one more time, we thank you all for listening. We wish you a happy Labor Day coming up
in a couple of days. But once again from Lumenfield. The final score here Sounders two, Timbers two
