Jose that we all want to quickly forget. You're now third place. Seattle Sounders are back in action tonight facing FC Dallas here at beautiful, sunny and quite warm lumin Field. So welcome to the Sounders FC Prematch Show, presented

FC Jackson felt here in the booth alongside Sounders Legend, Brad Evans and Brad as we look at the Sounders in the view from thirty five thousand feet right now, you get two straight wins Houston and then last weekend against Vancouver that thrilling, great three two comeback win where the attack had looked a lot better then you had San Jose. And I know we want to move on very quickly from this, but

that's San Jose match. It showed that this team offensively still had, you know, steps to take. Now, of course Christian rolled on George Morris. Back is as simple as getting them back in the lineup, for everything to be fixed and things to go back to the way they were at the start of the season. Well, yeah, look, I think this is a team whenever you win two games in a row, we're going to be happy. And right before that we had two wins in twelve games or thirteen

games. So it's right now we're at a bit of a tale of two seasons, and we hope that that's the case. We had a great start, we had a little bit of a lull, as we do as Sounders, and then we get to it. So if we win tonight, right, that's three and four and we forget about the San Jose game. The good thing about the San Jose game is as a player, it's out of your mind. Right you get on that plane, you get home, you have a regend session, and all of a sudden, it's pregame session that

are always the most fun to me. So you get out there on a Friday, you forget about San Jose. You come in here against Dallas on a beautiful night and to night. It's no excuses, especially looking at this lineup that the Sounders are fielding. But like you said, thirty thousand foot view, you still look at the standings. The team that's in third place, if results go our way, could bump up to second place tonight.

It is actually quite impressive the fact that this team has dealt with absences of two of the most important players to any team for a single team in MLS really Jordan and Christian, and they have stayed at their spot in the table, whether it was second place now third place, they've stayed there without the big absences, and that is a credit to the job that this team did, not only at the start of the season, but then to pick up

wins like a New York Red Bulls and like Houston and Vancouver. So the Sounders did what they needed to do while Christian and Jordan were out and now they are back. So let's get to the Delta. Starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders, Stephen Fryes out of concussion protocol. He is back in goal. Back four of this four two three one, Alex ruled on Yamar Gumaz Andrade Jackson, Reagan and knew who. Joel Paulo sits next to Obed Vargas,

the attacking threesome on the right. Christian roll Don is starting, Albert Russ Snack in the middle and Leo Chew off to the left with Roo Ruidiaz up top. And I'll quickly tell you yes, Jordan Morris is on the Sounders bench. So, Brad, the first thing that pops out, the thing that we are going to lead in talking about our here Christian roll Don back on the right wing. And you know, just looking at the way that this team functions with Christian, you expect good things to come out of

tonight. Well you either say that's the first thing that jumps out, or is it Nico Lanaro absent from the starting lineup, and this is a credit. Maybe this is a shift in the Sounders, But Nichols had a lot of games as of Lake and he's played a lot of minutes. So you know, the midweek game at San Jose takes a toll and then you get

Christian back with some fresh legs. He didn't play a lot of minutes in that Gold Cup, so tonight is a night for Christian to step in there and Nico might come off the bench in some capacity, but this is about as strong of a Sounders lineup as we've seen in a good long time. So yeah, Christian back in Rusnack as your number ten, and we'll see is this a night that Ruce Knack and Christian can build a partnership. Leo Chew on the left with Rahoul up Tom, I mean, that's a strong

front pour right there, it really is, Brad. I feel like offensively, this team has missed the balance. We've seen so much coming down the left left, left, left left so much, to the point where Nkos drifted all the way to the left and pushed Leaf Chew inside at times. And now it feels like with Christian and especially having Alex rolled on back and right back that rolled on brother pairing on the right side, it feels like we're finally gonna get that balance back to night. Yeah, And you kind

of feel bad for Niko because he was thrust out into that position. Alex was gone, he was injured, and he had to play with Cody Baker. Not that he had to play with Cody Baker, but that's just what was dealt him and Cody's strengths are defending. We know that he's gonna win just about every aerial duel, he's gonna get into every tackle, but he's he gonna provide everything moving forward. No, he's not, And so the

onus is on Nico. But that's a position that he played when he first came to the Sounders, but he also had Tyrone Mears behind him that was bombing the right hand side. So he enjoys playing that role. But he really needs the right fit to be successful there. But now we get the roldn brothers back on the right. Let's see if that partnership can bloom because when when it does, it's probably the best right flank in the league when they get going. So no excuse tonight for the Sounders, but you feel

for Nico. I know he's going to be not happy to be on the bench tonight. I mean, let's talk about that because and specifically, I think Brian Spencer is a head coach right well, we always hear and what we see, you know over the years is he's one of the best man manager coaches you'll ever come across in any sport. And when you have a guy in Nicholas Ladera who's been your captain, who's been your iron man for

the last seven years. You know, that is a very difficult conversation that Brian had to have had with Nico to say, listen, dude, I know you want to start three games in a week, but but this time you just can't do it. Yeah, and that's okay. And as a professional, you always think that you have more in the tank than what everyone on the outside sees and what your coaches and what the GMCs, because you have this support group around you that's always going to build you up and keep

pushing you forward. But the reality is is that the game changes, and as you age, your game changes as well personally, not just the game that's on the field, but the way that you play, and sometimes you can't do the things that you used to do. So for me, I was fortunate right versatile player. I could just move back a line, I could just go play center back, I could just go play right back. But for a true number ten, usually that is your only role as a

player. So I hope the conversation was, Hey, we want you here for the long term, We're gonna have to rotate our lineup. You've played a number of games lately, Christian's coming back and he's fit and healthy and rare and to go. You know, they do a ton of tests with these guys to see if you're ready to go before the game, a couple, you know, a week before the game. So if the conversations are correct, it's really going to test Schmitz. But he would rather have these

problems than not have a full strength lineup. So now you get to see a sense of how Schmitz's managerial prowess will be moving forward with this group of guys. They get healthy, that's exactly right, and that's the name of the game is be healthy, right because as we've seen with this team, when they're a healthy come playoff time. More often than that we make MLS

Cup. I mean, I look back to twenty eighteen and had it not been for both Christian rold on a Cha Chad Marshall both getting injured in the road leg down in Portland, I think this team makes five straight MLS Cups and the conversation is a little bit different. So for me, it's just all about being healthy and hopefully this decision is there to do that. And kind of the second part, I know Christian Roldan starting the right wing.

Some people would say, well, why couldn't Nico just you know, slot down a line, and to what you were saying right there, you know, as you did, Nico could slide back play next to d Apollo. Obed Vargas getting that nod to play his third straight game in a week. I mean, yes, he's young, and young players can play an infinite number of games, but also it is a had to be is a credit to this kid and the way he's playing right now. Yeah, I think

Obed is the future. I think if you're looking at the Sounders as as as a business, you don't start Nico as your number six. You start your seventeen year old as a number six so that it looks like he's beat out. You're probably best player in club history. And if you're thinking about selling this kid, he has to play games. He's got to play thirty thirty five games a season, because that's what teams overseas or dart down in Mexico, wherever he wants to go. He wants to go to Argentina,

whatever it is. They have to see that durability, even at a young age, because that's what players are doing overseas. That's what players are doing in South America and Central America. They're playing every game of the season. And so I think from a business standpoint, it's probably the smarter decision to keep Obed in the lineup to show that this guy can play and he deserves to be there. And he does deserve to be there. And that's the

thing. He's a very very good player. And he's still only seventeen. Yeah, he's super young. And I think that the important part for everybody to understand is this kid is good enough to go play overseas. He is that young, he's that talented. You know. Obviously the world is very aware of the name Obed barn and he will then continue to get looks.

So the question is, yeah, it does. Is Obed's future here as a starting player or is his future, you know, bringing the Sounders a large transfer fee and making a fantastic career over with another squad, And we just don't know yet, but it is a great voot of confidence for Obed Vargus in there today, Brad. Finally we have Stephen Fry back in Gold. Stephen Cleveland good few games that he stepped in while Fry was in concussion

protocol. But to have Fry back in there and have that leader at the back to do what he does that you know, listen, I know, I know Fry is certainly getting up there in age, but he can still make epic moments and I think having that leader back there is important for this team. Yeah. Look, Casey Keller played until he was forty one. Yeah, I mean, goalkeepers can do it. Marcus was here until forty forty one as well. So I always give a tip of the hats and

goalkeepers in their longevity and how long they're able to play. But Stephen Cleveland is a really, really good goalkeeper, and so he will step in and be serviceable. And that's why you have to have two good goalkeepers on your roster because at any point you saw it. Two years ago he had to step in. Step had the knee injury, and he proved to be a very very good goalkeeper in this league and he's only gotten better. And so

I think. But when you come into the locker room and if you saw Terry Boss was going to start the game, hats offs Terry Boss a fantastic goalkeeper, But then Casey was going to be starting that game There's just something about that name being back there that gives you confidence moving forward because typically you know that they're gonna make that one or two massive saves in a game that's going to keep you in it, and that's that's ultimately their job, right

and the game is evolving where it's more distribution based. Casey was relied on to make the saves and not be in the distribution game. But now that's STEP's job is he's very good at starting our attack and he's probably one of the best in the league at doing that. And so hats offs of Steff getting getting healthy quickly and having him back between the pipes is a huge confidence boosts going for especially with the amount of shoutouts this team has had this year.

Let's not forget this is a very very good defensive minded team. He's the biggest part of that. In the bottom Yeah, absolutely is you know, eleven clean sheets on the year. I want to say for Stephen Fry, he's like five off the MLS record. I want to say for a single goalkeeper, just a spectacular season and certainly an All Star snub. We have a few All Star snubs on this team right here, but only Jordan Morris heading to the All Star Game next or Wednesday's really really quickly dive into

the Providence Squish team health reports. Two players out tonight, Javier Ariaga and Kellen Row both have right quad strains. Questionable players include Stephen Fright you know he's out of concussion protocol, Ethan double are right hamstring strain, and Soda Kitahara has a right quad strain. Neither Doublair or Kahara are available on the

bench tonight. Let's really quickly actually take a look at that sounder's bench recordable any further I mentioned Jordan Morris is in there also, as we mentioned Nicholas Ladero on the bench, Freddy Montero stepping Cleveland, a Bisasoko, Josh Tencio, Reed Baker, Whiting, and Cody Baker. We are feeling the heat here in the poodierlumin temperature is reaching near ninety degrees today here in Seattle, and the Sounders and FC Dallas getting ready to kick things off here from lumin Danny Jackson and Steve Zakwani will have the call coming up here in just about twenty minutes or so. Jackson, Felt and Brad Evans are here for the pre match show. And let's take a look here at the Dallas squad

coming to town. They are eight to nine and five at seventh place in the Western Conference with twenty nine points at both six points back of Seattle at thirty five for third place, and also six points above Portland for twelve. It is a log jam in the Western Conference right now is twelve points divide all the way from three all the way to twelve. So certainly for the Sounders right now, with eleven matches to go, you gotta get absolutely as

many points as you possibly can. But looking at Dallas. You know, Brad, this is a team that I think they've been struggling overall of late. Four losses in the last five. They lost in Portland and in Austin. Then they had actually an upset win over LAFC, who certainly have the cockacaf hangover, before two more losses to DC United at home and then last

week Colorado on the road. So for this Dallas team coming to town, you know, they have they have a couple names that I think Sounder fans certainly know well and a couple that aren't going to be even in the match tonight. Yeah, I think one win in nine games, which is you know, we were talking about that with the Sounders just a couple of weeks ago. So how things turn around, they often start with with a gutsy performance away from home. And for me that moment may have been the Sounders

victory in Vancouver. That was a big one for the club. But you still have you know, if I saw this lineup walking into the long room, that's not a team that I'm gonna be afraid of. But still, you know, I've played against a number of these guys. I mean, Sebastian is obviously, you know, played with the US national let the jet I mean, he's out there and he's always going to provide an attacking powers

and just that creativity that not many players have. And so for me, it's all about the Sounders tonight, and I don't care about the Dallas lineup tonight because that's how I view this game. This is a you know, a month after seeing this lineup, I thought that it would be stronger, but now that I've seen it, it's a must win for the Sounders tonight. I like that. I completely agree with you as well. One of the reasons I think we say that it is Haysu's Forrera, So haysus f

Era, you know, States men's national team. For everybody who's watched the US over the last few years, I know they ain't Hayes. Who's fer Era. In this latest run in the Gold Cup, I think he had what six or seven goals. I mean, he's been an absolute star for the United States. So he played one hundred and twenty minutes for the US on Wednesday. As a result of that, Dallas didn't even put them in their twenty, not even on the bench for tonight's match. He is unavailable.

I'd like to point out that Hays who's vera ten goals and two assists on the ear But looking at that ten goals, no other Dallas player has more than two goals, Brad. Yes, they have a couple of talented players. I mean, Alan Velasco is supposed to be, you know, a great young player. He's really disappointed a lot of people in Dallas with his low statistics in his Big U twenty two signing. But overall, I kind of do ask, where are the goals going to come from Dallas against

a spectacular Sounders defense that leads the league in clean shoots. Yeah, well, I think it's a great I think they'll play a full one. It's almost like a four to three three, And that to me is they're gonna go for it. They have nothing to lose. If you're gonna feel this lineup and think you're gonna come in here and sit back and just get a tie, it's gonna be the longest day and night for FC Dallas fans and

their players because the Sounders are gonna push. If that's the case, and now with Alex back, you got new who there's more balance in this squad. If you would ask me this four or five weeks ago. I think Dallas comes in here and sits back. But I think tonight they have to push forward because the Sounders are gonna come out of them, and there's no excuse tonight for our boys and Grape Green. Well, if they're gonna move forward, that's just gonna allow the Sounders to take it back the other way.

I this could be a fun, exciting match with more than a few goals on Seattle side. I will quickly mention the name that Schmenzer highlighted to us in our production meeting, this center back, Nicosi Tafari. He's a

New York native six four center back that plays for FC Dallas. Schmenzer said this is a good center back, so certainly they will watch out for him as the Sounders attack and attack and attack tonight with not only rollery he has up top, but also Christian Rodan Is Brad mentioned back there on the right wing. I see Let's shift gears now and look back to the Sounders and Brad, who is your Seattle player to watch to We've probably heard coming into the I can't talk enough about Rusnack and his impact on this team and what it can be. And we've talked about it a number of times before. Is he has to be the guy. He's he's a number ten. This has to be the guy that's connecting passes. He's he's opening up lanes for Raoul. That's your job. It's not just a score goals.

It's mostly to provide assists in my opinion, with this lineup, and he's got to be able to pick out Christian, He's got to be able to pick out Raul. It's the quick combinations that he provides in his quick release. So tonight I'm watching Albert Rusnack once again, and I've said it so many times before, that this is the guy if the Sounders are going

to be successful that has to unlock defenses. And tonight, if he can't do it against an SEC Dallas squad that is coming in here almost limping in here, you know, we have other questions that we have to ask. I love that I'm looking right now Christian rold On very simply, we've seen the returner rolled on. We saw it for that Charlotte match before Christian left for the Gold Cup, and all the dudes does is score a goal within

like the first fifteen minutes on the field. This is a guy that is going to be able to I think add the Sounders not only balance on the right side of the attack, but give them that added dimension they're combining with Alex on that right wing. I'm excited to see Christian Roldon back starting for the Sounders tonight. Those are our players to watch. But let's get to your keys to this match. Yeah, defensively, we gotta keep things tight in the back. But when you look at this lineup, you have Christian back, We've got Roula top. It's all about scoring goals. To keep it tight in the back, you're gonna get your chances.

You cannot get frustrated against a team where you might not know a lot of these guys on this FC Dallas squad a win and we certainly don't. We don't know a lot about some of these guys that are starting tonight, and so sometimes that provides challenges that you don't expect. Someone always comes in here, a young guy that you don't expect and then all of a sudden you

leave. You're like, wow, that guy was really good for FC Dallas, and so tonight it's about scoring goals and putting this team to bed early on and then it's a nice night and to get out of here. Three wins in the last four and we're often running into the latter part of this month. And you mentioned that right there, and like Alan Lasko is that is exactly that type of name where he's been so disappointing for Dallas so far this year. But the talent is there and it's just waiting for his coming

out party. I think Dallas fans are just waiting for that. I was told by one of their fans earlier this week. So the thing for them is if this is his coming out party, that shoure would be a disappointment. So I agree, Sanders defensively walking down. Let's get that number twelve clean sheet on the year. Also, you know, during the last segment is Brad and I were watching here, we watched a world renowned painter by the name of Garabaldi paint an upside down painting of Bruce Lee from My Belief from Enter the Dragon while an orchestra played songs from his movies. Brad, that was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. And upside down painting. When he flipped

Yeah, I mean Chris and

having having Christian back, I can't say enough about him. He's a guy that came in here and Chad Marshall will just be screaming at him because he just didn't know what he was doing exactly. To see his evolution, he used to drive drive Chet crazy really but he would be you know, to see his evolution. And ultimately he will be here for the long term. He signed a new deal. He'll be a captain ending his career here in Seattle. I guess in the nest, you know, seven to ten years

probably. This guy's just an absolute animal and so his prowess on the field and what he brings. It's his stature, it's he'll never give up on a play, and that's what it means to be a Sounder and that's who's going to lead this team tonight for the guys in a great pad and to

go over exactly what we want to see here. I mean, we talked about starting fast at home, Brian Spencer talks about that all the time, but it feels like against this specific Dallas team who may be going for it with a four three three lineup, this is a Sounders team where it's there for them to start off fast and get an early goal. You know it's there for them. And I don't want to sit here at halftime asking questions you don't want to see here at the end of the game again being disappointed.

can have those debates all day. What we do know is that he needs to be on the pitch because it's a much different team about him. And I think for the Sounders on his right hand side, he just gives them the ability to link up well with his brother. But then he also goes inside and covers this base of that Albert Russ and might leave or sometimes even a job part or might leave. He's very good as stiffing out the danger and doing defensive duties. And Christian can get you three or four goals a

year, a few assists as well. Loose passed by the sounder is picked up by those yet or say hey, zus he was a bypass new with ease, he was across the face of the goal, picks up by the returning Stephan Fry decked out in all blue tonight, so good to have him back. Eleven clean sheets on the season, nine clean sheets at home.

here, the Sounders go up even another level. And I think someone like JP's broke about the League's Cup. He probably gets a nice little break and that's much needed at that point so he can come in and finish the season

off very strongly for the sound Is here. But yeah, definitely having a player like that come back from a long term injury is a luxury to have and he's been a really really good form in recent weeks, even when the team has not the terms of total passes attempted and achieved, he sits just

outside the top three in MLS. Again, it's just that end up work with a bit of argus, just quietly efficiently in the middle of the parks, breaking up players as FC Dallas with Surrea knocks the ball into Velasco the DP middle of the field, rolls the ball out to Commando on the right hand side, challenged by new who has to come back to Legette that too, come on, go On the right hand side comes back all the way to Kenon. of the week. As the ball goes into Leo Chu got some chance in the middle of the park blots by Ruy Diaz. It was good build up by the Sounders all the way through to Russnack. He found the gap between outside defender and central defender for Dallas with Leo Chu was racing in behind, and it was good defending eventually by FC Dallas to take it off the toe of Ruydiers. But we should see this all night long. Albert Rusnak in the inside channel there, Leo Chu, you have to make runs off the

board. Rusnak has the ability to find you and sleeping in behind, and all that's gonna matter then is do have the quantity to find that final pass On that occasion, Leo Chu picks up Ruthy as the space wasn't quite there, was defended raw by FC Dallas, but positive from the Sounders. Their India taken half dynamic. I felt at times in midweek and kind of labored in the final third. It was slow and it was a bit fourth and you want to see a bit more dynamic players, especially for your Chu,

a guy who can go vertical. I guess anyone in the speed you want to see the Sounders really get to the final third. And played a game at Temple, so that was a good example of that. Similar to the goal against Houston where Leo Chu found himself in a similar position. That time he cut it back to Rusnack. This time the only option was ruy Ds and certainly with Christian rolled on on the field is going to give you that ability to break in the box and be that second third man in support of

If you mentioned FC Dallas one only once in Luman field, I was way back in two thou eleven sixteen games without a victory. Here in Seattle, you see Dallas typically strong home record of a stronger away this year. They hit the playoffs.

Last year had a really strong season under head coach Estevez, but up and down so far, as we mentioned, six losses in the last eight games in regular MLS play. As the ball goes to Kamango off the heels, there's gonna be a Sounder story in the fast side of the left with new hoop ball in his hands. Support by JP is able to bring it down, chushing it back to Jackson Rega pressed by Kamoo all the way back to Steff and Fried steffro and frights a touch pressure from FC Dallas attacking player.

great job disrupting what a sound has wanted to do. And we've seen the end of teams coming into Rubin field and not just being defensive, opening up playing expensive football. Quite told to toll against the Sounders, and I think Dadas are going to play quite an attacking brand, an attacking style today which ultimately should lead into the Sounder's hand. But so far in these is preventing John Parlow and Russknack from dominating the game. And so it's been a pick

back and forth. Nothing brands Spenser. There's enough intrigue here, but both goalkeepers having an extremely uneventful opening seventeen eighteen minutes here so far we have we've hardly mentioned the name or for aub with years now. I know he's a player who doesn't need a ton of touches, but you still want to get him in rhythm. You want to get him involved, coming deep for little layoffs here, and they're trying to put

more crosses into the box, giving him things to chasing behind. You want to keep route active and engaging the game so that when the chance does come, he's involved, he's in rhythm and he has more chance to finish it. But just early on so far, I would say that's probably the happy of the two teams. Frustrating the Sounds a little bit here, not being stretched too much and not allowing the Sounders to find their very best rhythm.

Not for lack of training both player from the sense to the fast side of life. Leo two got some time in space, Jesus standing him up, flex around the corner towards Rosnack left side of the box to the back post, challenged by Alex Roldars, gonna go over the class far for a goal kick for Dallas. But good break, good build up by the sounders went from right hand side to the mad all the way to the left hand side, and again Leo Chio finds some time in space and a good slasher run

by Rusnack and support. Yeah, choose the outlet and often that's a secret. At this point he's the one guy who really get on the board, go on the dribble unbalanced defenders and I laughed that little run from Albert Russnack. You don't want to do that all the time because you want to leave the space and behind full or due to attack into But every now and then, seeing the attacking midfielder go into that space, choose able to play him

into space and then the final board from Russnack wasn't the best. But those are the kinds of attacks to sounders want to repeat and sustain to really put FSI datas under pressure side trying to build it out the bat. They do it quite well that the sound is able to win it thirty yards from the end, line knocks it down, line towards roll down towards the end like

Absolutely, and I think I think it's a case of I mean, Leo Choo has been fantastic once again, and it's a guy that we've been asking Jordan every time he gets the wall to just go at the defender because

it causes so much habit. It might not work every single time, but when it works eight out of ten times, you see what happens. It's in behind, lays the ball across, and all of a sudden, it's an own goal because you're turning defenders around. And ultimately, for the Sounders to score multiple goals, it can't just be a perfect cross perfect goal.

You have to turn defenses around. So credit to layout two good combination play with Albert Rusnak, and you expect this second half to continue in that fashion, minus that little blip in the forty second minute on the own goal. Sam junk was the one who gets the on goal for Dallas. Was he just trying to like lay it off to this goalkeeper and in that moment he

just kicked it right into the back of the net. It doesn't matter because that's the most difficult Imagine facing a giant goal and the ball is coming across. What are you supposed to do with it? It's a perfect ball. And that's what we teach everyone, That's what I teach my high school kids. You must get into good areas and turn around defenses because at that point

that's the most vulnerable place that a defender can be. They love, we love as center backs when the ball is in front of us because we can attack the ball and send it forward up the field. We can attack aheader and send it up the field. But as soon as I am turned and facing my own goal, that is the most vulnerable position for any defender.

And that was just a great service and a credit to Christian's run putting the pressure on because as a defender, you don't know if he's gonna be there to tap it in, so you just do anything that you can to hopefully guide it out for a corner kick. I thought the control of the game was there for the fourth point of first half and a second half didn't generate enough chances from that, and I think for the Sounders and NeSSI Dallas team that came here content for the point, I just want to see a little bit more so, it's a frustrating two points dropped by the sounder. The points are shared here between your Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas. One one is the final. Both goals scored in the first half of thirty second minute owned goal by Dallas created by Leo Chew and then a forty second minute goal for Dallas a header it gets past Stephen Fry and nothing in the second half.

Despite the fact that the Sounders dominated once again in possession and in a lot of areas. It is a final of the one to one Jackson, Felts and Brad Evans here for the postmatch show. We'll be here for the next twenty five thirty minutes or so to break this thing down. And Brad, I mean, really, the number one word going through my brain is frustrating. I'm just immensely frustrated that for a match that the Sounders dominated throughout

so much of we can't get three points. Well, you do this to yourself, right, You go in and you get a lead in the first half, and you think that things are peachie clean, and then all of a sudden a little disorganized in the back and Dallas punishes you. And then all of a sudden you're playing against basically what feels like twenty five men in the back in that second half. And we always knew that the Sounders were going to come out and push and try to get that second and third goal.

So it's not that the Sounders played bad. This is not going to be a postgame show of what they ultimately did wrong where they looked bad tonight. They played well for ninety plus minutes it's just a matter of fact of now you come into a team that doesn't have its normal starters, and so they're not going to be in the second half pushing to get that result. Yes, in the first half, I think Dallas opened up and the Sounders

came out and we're able to capitalize on their mistakes. And then the second half, you always knew that they were just going to sit back and they were going to be just try to get out of here with a point. At the end of the day, it's good for them. If you're gonna play for a point forty five minutes, you're always going to do it in the second forty five. And so, yes, frustrating for the Sounders,

not able to get it done tonight, frustrating for the fans. Credit to them for sticking it out because the Sounders certainly looked like they were going to get a second in that second half. If you absolutely are the fact that the Sounders played well, I mean they dolinated in possession. The passing was ninety percent, and a lot of that passing happened in the final third and in and around that and just trying to find the right angle. But at

the end of the day, Brad. I mean, for as well as they played, I think, you know, right up at the edge of the box, it comes back to finishing right and at the end of the day not being able to finish. And you know, some of it is a little bit unlucky where you know, Jordan Morris is header in the seventy eighth minute is saved and OVD has a shot from distance that's you know, just a foot and a half, you know, right off off the top

beat in the upper right. I mean say these little things here and there, but at the end of the day, it is missing that finishing ball. Yeah, you know, soccer is a game of counterattacks and its mistakes capitalizing mistakes from other teams, and Dallas didn't really make that many mistakes in the second half. They've really played a good low block and their goal was to get out of here with a point. And any team that is going to go away from home they've won one game in nine is going to say,

hey, we have forty five minutes to lock it down. Let's get some confidence and move forward and get a point. And so we do this in training all the time. As attacking team, you're always gonna play numbers up against a defensive group that's just gonna sit back and now can you break them down? And sometimes when you look at it, it's purely a numbers game, and it has to take something special like that shot from distance. If that's a foot lower, it goes in the back of the net.

You know, the keeper comes up big a couple of times for them, and just some of those crosses from Nico just an inch or two off. And it was just that kind of night for the Sounders in the second half. Just not able to execute and really get it done. Yeah, absolutely so. I mean, yo, get the stats here, sixteen to three shots, But I'll focus on this part. Both teams had two shots on

target. A lot of shots for the Sounders, well, only a couple of them are actually on frame, one of those being Jordan Morris's header that was saved in the seventy eight That might have been the Sounders best chance of the second half, where then a follow up shot from Nick go is blocked. I mean, I just wrote on my sheet, damn, because it really felt like that that might have been it. Uh. The thing that

I'm looking at two is fourteen to one on corners. Bratton and that's this is a team that, you know, you look at the Vancouver game, excellent on set pieces and at the start of the year excellent on set pieces. It just kind of feels like, I don't know if the service wasn't there. I don't know if it was just kind of an unlucky thing here and there. But for fourteen to one on corners, that's one thing that I'm looking at saying, you know, that is something that the Sounders.

If you're going to dominate that much on set pieces, you need you need to score one of those. Yeah, Well, the service has to be consistent, yeah, and the runs have to be consistent as well. So is it a matter of the Sounders are consistently going to try and isolate Jackson and get him free and he's gonna win the knock Like in Vancouver, he's gonna win the knockdowns and get up And then late in the second half he did. He got called for a foul. But that's the one that they've

been looking for all day long. And so I don't see a rhymer reason behind the set pieces specifically, and especially tonight on corner kicks. And it just leaves me wondering when you have that many corner kicks, you have to get something out of it fourteen and to get nothing out of it is something that the guys will have to go in and look at and say, how do we get better at this? Is it a matter of who's going to take the corner kick? Do we need new set because it's a set play

at the end of the day, right, it's a set play. So just like basketball, just like football, these are the only time in soccer where you really get to run plays. And I remember always working in two, so I was the guy that I knew I wasn't gonna win the header, but I was always trying to isolate Chad Marshall the best I could, So I wouldn't even look at the soccer ball when it was being taken. I was looking at my defender, knowing he was here. I was looking

at Chad Marshall's defender. Wherever he ran, I would just step in front of the defender and make sure that he was alone. And I don't see that right now from this team, really trying to isolate Yamar and Jackson and really get them free so that at least two of them are challenging for the ball, one on the corner of the six and one at the back post.

And that's what I think is missing right now. And I don't know if it's a matter of they just don't know what they're supposed to do or they're just laying the ball up hoping that Jackson's tall and he can hit the ball. Well, listen, this is the last MLS game for the next month or so. Next MLS game is going to be Atlanta here coming up in the deep end of August. It's League's Cup until then, so in terms of MLS action, Sounders have some time to figure out set pieces.

But listen, I agree with you wholeheartedly. See at fourteen corners and getting nothing out of it. That's a big issue. So Sounders LA have time to figure that out. Well, I'll tell you that we'll go through a lot here on this post match show. We'll get to the Emerald Queen Casino

That did seem to add a lot to the attack and then balance offensively to this team. Yeah, exactly. I think it takes away pressure from

our left hand side, and his absence obviously showed that. And it's the combination of him and Alex together, right, It's it's not just one or the other, it's when they play together they have this. I mean they've grown up together obviously, so they have an unspoken bond about what the other

person is trying to do. They're on the same page, and it allows Leo chw to not be you know, the LAFC game was was a big We watched that game from basically what felt like on the field, but Leo Chi was so heavily dependent on in that game at LAFC that he just tired after fifty sixty minutes and we got nothing from from Cody Baker. And that's

not to say to rag on Cody. It's just a product of him trying to get his feet and he doesn't have that attacking prowess yet, so to have that balanced attack is huge, and he creates that goal from a hard, hard run. He doesn't know if he's gonna get to the ball, but that's not the point with Christian. He knows that if he does great, and if he doesn't, he's gonna put the defender on his back heels and make him face his own goal and make a mistake. And that time

he did. Credit to Leo Chu because I don't know how you take him out of the starting lineup right now after these last you know, seven eight

games that he's been producing. And that's another that's credit to Leo because we've sat here on broadcast saying when he's he gonna start, when he's he gonna kick into high gear, and tonight was at night once again that he provides you know that like unspoken kind of I don't even know how to how to it, but yeah, it's a little it's something that he provides that you can't really explain because sometimes you think he gets caught in pressure and then all

of a sudden he makes something out of nothing. And there's not many players that can do that. So credit to him for keeping his head down. And if it wasn't for him, we might leave this game one nothing. Yeah, absolutely, I mean and it's that burst that we saw Jordan have when Jordan was a youngster. Here, it's just it's that added dimension is speed that's stretched teams and do what he did in creating that goal there that ends up as an own goal in the back of the nets. In terms

of you mentioned you're taking Leo Chio out of the starting lamp. In terms of trying to find the best starting lineup for the Sounders right now, it's an interesting topic as we look ahead to what's coming up next for the Sounders. The Providence, Swedish premat show will begin at six o'clock next Saturday for Sounders and RSL in the group stage and Brad as we continue the conversation from the previous segment, the big question is we know is Brian Schmitzer, Craig Wie will have said they're gonna go for this. This is a trophy that the Sounders don't have, and this is

a club that goes for every trophy available. So considering they are gonna go for it, they're gonna put out a top level lineup. The question is

what is that top level lineup? Is it a variation of what we saw tonight where Nicholas Ladero starts on the bench and you have a job hollow Obed Vargas and chews on the left, russknacks in the middle, Roldan's on the right, Ruy Diaz slash Morris the striker, or do you figure out a way to get to Ladaro back starting on the field, How do you structure the best starting eleven with pretty much everybody healthy right now for that tournament.

I'm not exactly sure, because I think Salt Lakes in a position where they could probably field a pretty strong lineup right now, yeah, and go for it. I think the Sounders have to be careful in this tournament late in the season because we've got bit last year and not having a full strength lineup heading into the summer months, and we all know what happened there right Not making the playoffs, and we just have to be very careful about who we

field in this tournament because the main emphasis is Major League Soccer. And I like the Open Cup because it's a little bit earlier in the season, and I think in years past we've been able to field, you know, for the first couple rounds, we've been able to field mixed lineups. This is a tournament where I think no one knows what's going to happen and what lineups are supposed to be fielded, and what lineups other teams are gonna field.

So I think it's a bit of a guessing game here. I think it has more emphasis than the Open Cup to most teams because you're playing teams from outside the country and I think that they'll probably play mixed lineups. Two. But I think we're going to be in a case where you're gonna see a mixed lineup. I think you'll see Niko back on the field. It'll give a chance for him to get some games under his belt, maybe back at that number ten. But it's also we're playing Salt Lake, so you do

you put Rusnak out there to get consistency. It's who knows. I thought tonight. I don't know why uh JP came off the field a little bit of a head scratcher for me, unless he picked up a little bit of something. But I could tell you what. Ozzie's not coming off of that field unless it's a ninety fifth minute or he's got a bone sticking out of

his leg. So I'm gonna go in the locker room and ask JP what's going on, hunt, because you don't see that very often that your number you know, your number six, who's your tried, true steady player comes off the field and sacrifices his role for someone else, So a lot of questions will be asked. I don't expect to see a full strength lineup. If the Sounders are smart, they'll give JP arrest coming off in ACL. This will be his first chance to really get arrest and get his feet underneath

him and make a charge at the end of the season. So, yes, there's emphasis on this tournament, but like I said, there's a lot of questions around it too. Well, let's go down there and let's start asking those questions. We'll head down to the locker room. That'll be it for our broadcast tonight.
