Welcome to the Sounders FC post match show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FCING post match show starts now, well, that's more like it. You're Seattle Sounders winning tonight back here at home at Looming Field. Final score one nothing over the visiting New York Red Bulls. A win that was got the goal scored from Jordan Morris in the twenty second minute. Obviously he's out with

an injury growing injury. While more on that as the postgame show continues. A massive faith saved from Stephen Frying the sixty seventh and the Sounders come away with the one nothing win. Let's head down to the field. Michelle Ludcut with Alex Roldan. Thank you Jackson, Alex, congratulations on a win tonight, a big three points, anna clean sheet. What do you take away from your team's performance, It's just what we were locking in the past few

games. Our identity is to work hard here at home, not allowing any teams to get uh, you know, clear opportunities. But overall the resilience from the team was was really good. Our defensive strength was really good. You played down a man for the final fifteen plus minutes of the match tonight, How do you think your team handled that extra adversity. Yeah, sometimes

that's gonna happen during the season, and I think we stepped up. You know, we were we were strong, we were disciplined, and I think that's the most important thing is that we came away from that game with three points down a man. You touched on the recent run of form, not the outcomes that you guys have been hoping for, looking for wanting given what transpired tonight, coming away with the win down a man, the recent run of form, is tonight a bigger win than what you would normally make of

this match? Um? Yeah, I mean we were looking at it as a positive. You know, during the season, we're gonna have stretches where we're not playing the best and then going back to what we believe in, what we what we know our identity is is huge and it's important, um And and today's just a boost to prepare us for the next game. Speaking of the next game, tonight kicks off a three match home stretch. What does it do for the team's momentum? Getting the win back here at home.

Yeah, we want to collect as many points as we can at home. So three in a row, it's it's huge for us. I think that'll set us up for the season. Um, if we can get a win in each one and just take it game by game, I think we could prepare ourselves and and hopefully kickstart this this new part of the season. And as we look ahead, as we wrap things up here, are there going to be made her takeaways from you yourself during the last three three games

in a week three match in a week set that you had. You're getting ready for another one. Now, anything that you learned from the last one that you maybe want to focus on change carry with you on this one. Yeah. I mean we've learned from our mistakes. We've learned from those games that we were playing poorly. We we cut some film and we h looked at all the things that we weren't doing well, and um, you know, moving forward, we're just trying to emphasize those those small points and go

back to how we were playing in the first ten games. Alex, thank you so much for the time and again, congratulations on the win tonight. Thank you Jackson. I'll send it back to you. Thanks Michelle. It's Michelle Lutka down there with Alex Roldan following the Sounders one nothing win over New York tonight here at Luminfield to kick off this stretch. San Jose coming up next Wednesday, and then Portland the doubleheader with Portland Portland coming up at next

Saturday afternoon. But starting the postgame show, Jackson Felt's Brad Evans Marcus hand him in here for the next half hour to break this thing down. Brad, I'll start with you, man, we gotta win tonight. That's great, but it's but it's the effort. We talked about it at halftime, and I think we continue to see a good effort tonight from the Sounders. Well it feels good to be a winner, doesn't it. Yeah, yeah, it feels good. I mean, I mean yeah. And when you

put in a performance like that. It wasn't by luck that the Sounders won this game. It was it was pure effort and grit, and you know, we're chasing after every single ball. Jordan's sliding around, you know, Unfortunately he gets injured and exits the game early. But that trickled down effect

from the first tackle the first ball. It lasted ninety plus minutes, anything you could do to preserve that win, and still probably should have been three, four, even five nothing at times just inches away, but just overall fantastic performance, and you just wonder where was that? Right? But I think sometimes, like Alec said, is you need those moments throughout the season to figure out what your identity is. And now let the guys know that

they must put maximum effort from here on out. There's no excuse. It's not possession, right, that's not what what was gonna win you championships. You know, you look at the clean sheet. What you mentioned was a key to the match tonight, Brad, You know how key that was.

Stephen Fry made a huge save at the sixty sixty seventh minute, you know, one on one and we had a chance to score it the other and this is how it always happens, right, You send guys forward, quick counterattack and all of a sudden he's through and Stephen Fry stood a big, massive save the sending off and then then you know, ballsy decision by Schwitzer as well to take Niko out and change it up, go five at the back, and you know, and it worked, and you know, I

don't really like that five at the back of that whole thing, but you know, it worked tonight. I think there's sometimes there's space on the midfield for the other team to exploit, and but it worked and the Sounders come out here here with much needed one zero victory. Is a great game and nail biter to the last to the final whistle. Yeah, that nail buyer part of it. I mean JP goes off in the seventy sixth minute on

that second yellow. It looks a little bit questionable. That looks I mean, if we can say, just not speaking from the club or anything, but for myself just watching the replay back, I mean, like, come on, like, I don't know how MLAs doesn't look at that again in the disciplayer committee and say he didn't touch him, Like he just didn't touch him to dive like, I don't know. Like, but at the end of the day, he comes off the field for the last fifteen minutes plus

stop it. You have to play down a man. As you mentioned, they shift the entire look of the team with ATTENTI coming on, with Oriaga coming on, and it was just a nail biter, grind out effort for the last fifteen Well, you knew that when we went five in the back, they're up a man, They're already playing a three to five two. Everything was going to come from the wings. So the thought is, hey, let's let's shore up the wings and negate any sort of service. And

I think that the guys did that. And then you move Cody Baker inside. He got a Tensio and Roosnack, and two of those guys have legs for days. Right, Cody can put in the work. He can play pretty much anywhere on the field and do a serviceable job. And then Attenio is going to come in and he's got legs as well. So um, I think I think a smart tactical decision. Maybe if you know we've got eleven guys on the field, we don't we don't need to go five in

the back. But in that situation, I don't think that the service just wasn't there from New York, and he saw at the end they were going to have to come down through the middle and try to combine. They were close on a couple occasions, but it just wasn't there for New York tonight and the Sounders. I mean it was all Sounders tonight. Yeah, and then it scoring first, which we talked about as well. Right, I didn't know that stat about New York, but just proves how vital that was

right there. New York they don't do well coming from behind, and the Sounders were able to hold on, especially here at home is a great night. That's right, kind of referencing that stat we gave him the pregame show. When New York scores first, they're one oh four, twenty one and twenty seven, and this is since implementing their high press system in twenty fifteen.

And then when they give up the first goal, they're now eighteen seven and twenty three, so very very different team when they get scored on first, and the Sounders got that in the twenty second minute from Jordan Morris. That is not going to be our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match to find out what is hang past the break? Sounders winning tonight one nothing over New York and Sounder fans. Coming up next on the postmatch show Sports Radio at ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome back, You see a Bitch at Louleminfield. Welcome back to the post

match show following a Sounders one nothing win tonight over New York. That is why we're playing taking care of Business. The Sounders took care of business. I finally got off the schneide four wins in their previous five across all competitions. But it's a win tonight to start a big week. Well, it's time for Emerald Queen Casino play of the match. We're gonna go to the sixty seventh minute where Stephen Fry kept the Sounders on top and it's New York

now in transition with Manuel over the top. Takes a good cushioned head of them, and it's stepfan boy is a great safe Oh for what's to say by stepfriends Fry was his left being gets it. Manuel took a ball in his head. Think Yamo thought Fry was gonna come out the momentary pause gave Manuel the chance to go through. It was one of them over the goalkeeper.

It was a wonderful safe by Stephen Fry and the Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting Capital of the Northwest and Marcus. I imagine watching that that was for for goalkeeper to goalkeeper, you gotta

give a nice little round of applause for that effort there. Yeah one, and it's one of those situations the Sounders were pressing, looked like, you know, they had a good cross saying straight down and you know STEP's you know he was you could see him back there organizing and the guy's clean through and Steph did such a great job of just staying up right, making the forward make a decision, don't make a decision too early and the guy tried

to put some moves on him, and STEP's able to sit up there and just get a hand out. What a tremendous say, really athletic and fantastic and what a critical save it was. You know, it wins us the game, right, And that's how that's how a goalkeeper can win a game is by making one save like that where you haven't really done a whole lot in the game. He's cleaned up some crosses, had a header right to him, you know, really good positioning and all down to that one play.

It really did. I should mention that Tonight's Tonight's Toyota Man of the Match is indeed Stephan Fry your look at Toyota Dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. Now, that ended up being the game the winds saving save that he had there, and as Brad mentioned you, it really could have been you know, anywhere between four nothing or five nothing with the amount of chances that the sounds created, the amount of crosses. I do

want to quickly talk about the young kids performances in this game. We saw Cody Baker get the start at last back. He put in a nice long shift in this game, shut it down, got the clean sheet. And then also Dylan Tevez had to come into this match Brad in the twenty fifth minute and you know his job on the on the right wing. On one you talking with both of you guys about the job that those two young kids did today. Yeah, I think you have to include Jackson in that too.

Write another starter back in back in the mix. He had a fantastic game tonight, and that's a good sized New York Red Bull team and for those two to battle back there Yamar and Jackson was more than admirable tonight. And it's something that Marcus said pregame is that's what we want to see, and that's what we saw the first five to ten games of the season. Those two clean in everything up. And that's what we saw tonight was great

pressure, cover balance. That's kind of them of the defense, right one can pressure, got a cover, and then you all have to be imbalanced together. And that's why you saw limited chances from New York Red Bull tonight. And then Cody did his job. I thought he was really solid tonight. He's strong. He went up for every single AERI old tool. He went up for that one. It looked like he smashed his face on the ground. And then being nineteen twenty years old, he just popped right back

up. All right, guys, let's go. He's like a little golden retriever out there, just ready to chase after any ball. Hurt later, Yeah, it'll hurt later, but that's fine. And then Dylan, that's the hardest job is first half you're sitting on the bench not expecting to play, and twenty minutes in you got to come in and sub for Jordan and expect to produce, and he did that. I am not sure what Jordan would have done more in that game other than potentially, you know, it's

just that extra gear that Jordan has. But take nothing away from Tebis to night. I thought he was fantastic out there. And I talked to him earlier in the week He's like, I got a little hamstring. Well he didn't show it to night because he was seventy minutes of absolutely running his tail off, and we said that's what we wanted to see. And he was fantastic to night as well. Yeah, he did look a little bit tired towards Yea. I know in the locker room right now he's probably still sitting

there trying to figure out why he's still sweating right now. But those it's did a great job tonight, right. You know Atensio, he's big and strong, and you know he went to Newport High School where I went, and you when I was coaching the high school team, he was playing for the Sounders. So we didn't get a chance to have him on the team there, and uh, when I saw him the other day, I was like, I couldn't believe how big he's gotten. You know, he's he's

grown another three inches, He's put on about twenty pounds. I mean, he looks like a unit now. And you know out there, those guys are putting in a shift, you know, and they just need to hold the ball up a little bit better. And um, you know they're and they're learning and they're learning their craft. And Cody's now played left back. Then all of sudden, you know, oh, you're gonna go in the

midfield. And and that's the thing that these young players there there there, their experience that they're gaining from playing S two and playing in different positions, they can go and put put a shift in wherever right. They don't have to play in their one position. That's the one thing that's kind of surprising by um, when I really think about the shift that Cody put in tonight, is now he could go in the midfield as well. Absolutely mentioned high

school playing there away. Brad, congratulations on a championship today earlier today, Well done there, shout out quickly were you were you coaching and what you're doing right now outside of broadcast. Yeah, Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, Downtown School one a boys state champs today, girls who won third place in the fall. Now we got a championship today. So happy to see the boys win. I did promise him as a joke early in the season.

This is four months ago, like, guys, if you guys went, I'll buy you all, Bruce Lee Jersey Like, that's how confident I am. And then that was the first thing they brought up today when they won the championship. But no goals conceded throughout the playoffs. So super stoke for those guys. Awesome day two. Well done Brad, and well done. Congratulations to that squad. All right, Sounders back here at Looming Field

winning one nothing tonight. I will take one more break and we'll come back and look ahead of the busy week for the club that include San Jose on Wednesday and Portland the big doubleheader on Saturday. More next on the postmatch show sports Radio at ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back to the

postmatch show from Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Loumin Field where you're Seattle. Sounders took care of business tonight a one nothing win over the New York Red Bulls, and they're starting this big week off right. slash tickets. All right, let's first talk about San Jose. Joel Polo came off the match two yellows red in the seventy sixth minutes and as we were just talking off the air, Marcus, this is a situation where you can watch a bunch of replays. It's a very questionable second yellow, so

we'll see what happens. But you know, if Joel Paul were to miss an entire match for that second yellow, it's just it's frustrating, Yeah, and it just seems like the uh, the punishment doesn't fit the crime if there is a contact, right, we miss him for the last twenty minutes of the game, and now we might have to miss him again for another one just after we've missed him through an injury from the beginning you know for this real critical part. But the only saving grace is we might have Christian

roll Dan back from concussion protocol. So the timing might be work in our favor here, right, you know, we're just getting one back if we do miss him, So there is some positives for us. And there's also then Jordan Morris's groin injury. We'll get more on that as the week progresses, but Brad, as we kind of figure out what Brian Spencer can throw

out there on Wednesday, there will be some mixing and matching. Knowing you have another huge match on Saturday. Yeah, another you know, it's another midweek game, so you have to be conscious, and the big one is Portland, but that one doesn't matter without getting a result on Wednesday night in whatever shaped form that that may be. It's a good San Jose team this

year. They're up one nothing tonight and then they get scored on in a ninety third minute I think against Dallas at home, so they'll be hungry to prove that they they've still got some and some a little bit of energy left in their tank. I think. So yeah, we'll see a mixed lineup, but I don't think tonight's effort from the guys was too I don't think they expended too much energy. I don't think it's one where you go into the locker room you're like, oh man, we're exhausted. We were under

the gun for you know, seventy eighty minutes. No, the Sounders are on the front foot, front foot, playing good attacking soccer and that gives you legs actually, and it gives you confidence going into a midweek game. You know as a player that these are going to come up. This is why you play the game. Yeah, there's gonna be weeks where it's gonna be really tough. Can I be physically fit and mentally fit enough to get the job done and play, you know, every four days for a week.

And the Sounders, I mean, we look at the standings. We're in first place now and I think we're two results away from being back in the supporters Shield talk after what we've just gone through. Now, that can go either way, right, and it's fun to talk about those things. But it's better to talk about that tonight than the alternative. And with those results comes pressure on other teams. You know, Saint Louis LFC is gonna

have so many games in hand because of Champions League. That's what the Sounders had to face last year. So get on the right foot, get pick up the results at home. It's a pivotal six point week. Well, it shows you how critical wins are as well. The Sounders had a great start to the season and then that horrendous April whatever it was. I wish we could forget it. But all of a sudden, a win here and then we're talking supporter shield again, all of a sudden, right, It's

it's it's crazy. This is how how tight the MLS is and how competitive it is, and how early on in the season we are, right, there's no panic. You know, we didn't win in some games, and you know that was a little bit frustrating. I'm sure from from the outside. I wonder how frustrating it was for the coaching staff and the players right for that great start and people were talking about, oh, we're in first place and that's all everyone want to talk about, and then they couldn't find

a way to win. So it's a it's a long season. But Sounders did some really good things tonight and really proud of the guys. Well, I'm a hyper emotional person, and I'm a fan first on these proadcasts, and I'll be the first thing. I came into the building tonight and Keiley can attest this. I come in and I was just like, this sucks. I'm so angry and like I'm so depressed, and I'm expecting disappointment because I don't want to be disappointed all that crap because I am hyper emotional.

And what do you know, It's a win. So now you go from zero to one hundred and good times, and let's hope the good times keep rolling against San Jose on Wednesday once again, seven o'clock pre match seven thirty kickoff right here at Louman for the San Jose Earthquakes match, and we'll see what Brian Schmitzer throws out there, and we'll hopefully see Joel Paulo become available more on that as the week progresses. So have a good week, everybody.

We'll talk to you on Wednesday night right here on KJR, and until then, have a good rest of your weekend, have a very good Memorial Day. Happy Memorial Day to everybody. Thank you to everybody involved with the broadcast tonight. Lloyd here, our engineer on site. Ander's Hurst back in the studio playing the tunes, doing a great job. Keiley Dunning here our

Great call tonight from Annie Jackson, Steve Zachawani and Michelle Ludka on the sideline, Marcus Hannaman, Brad Evans, great job for both of you, for Jackson Felton, for everybody with the broadcast. We thank you so much for listening. Once again from lou Winfield, your sounders winning tonight one nothing. Have a good weekend, everybody,
