Well after two wins in the two months over May in June, your Seattle Sounders, well that didn't have as many wins as they wanted to,

let's just say that. But now we have hit July and the Rave Green are on fire, back to back wins over Houston and in Vancouver last weekend, and now they're sitting pretty second place in the Western Conference heading into tonight's match down in San Jose against the Earthquake. So welcome into the sounders FC premat Show presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner of sounders FC. My

name is Jackson Felts. I'm in the Elliot Avenue studio is back here in Seattle night three point three kjr FM, but we head down to San Jose because joining us for the prematch show he's gonna be on the broadcast alongside Danny Jackson, with Michelle Ludcut. Steve Zakwani joining us here for the prematch shows. Steve, how are things in San Jose? My friend, that's very

good. Thanks having me on, Jackson. I'm I'm just here. Both teams just now out to warm up, stand to start to slowly feel the web is great, So should be a good night for a good game. Yes, Steve, I heard this morning from the radio voice of the San Jose Earthquakes that it's going to be quite warm down there. Talk to us about exactly how warm it is. What's the setting down there at PayPal Park? Yeah, I mean it's warm. I mean I wouldn't say it's anything

that the players, you know, we're going to have experienced before. You know, I think you know, having played in this league when you make some of those summer time trips at the East Coos, so you're playing in Houston, Dallas, that's a lot more challenging than what we'll see tonight. There is a nice breeze as well, so nothing to be concerned about. It's warm, but definitely nothing that should affect performance too much. Is the

breeze coming from the airplanes which you're landing. I believe exactly fifty one feet from you right now. I can see. I've seen a few lendings since being it's pretty cool. It's a good location. Yeah. Yeah, the stadium their PayPal Park for those who don't know for San Jose, literally right next to the San Jose Airport, so not far for the team to travel

after tight's game is over to get back to the Northwest. See, we have a lot to get you here breaking down tonight's matchup for the Sounders against the San Jose eight earthquakes. Before we really start diving into this one, we of courses, we always do look back a little bit and we have to after that win. What a three to two game and a win that was up in Vancouver there on Saturday. Just a wild atmosphere and wild game

that is certainly the Sounders needed to win a game like that. What do you see that that was working so well, at least offensively in the three to win. Yeah, I thought it was. We got some good performances, I thought, you know, I think in the last two weeks, for example, Nicoladero's looks a bit more like Nicoladero. I think him and Rusnac are figuring out exactly, you know, how to play off each other a little bit better. I think JP, with every lasting week, is

still continuing to get back to his very best. Even though he's been very good, he's leveled so high that the more minutes he gets, the more you can manage him and keep him on the pitch, is gonna help the team as well. And then I think a lot of credit obviously to Leo Chu, not not just the two goals. I think his confidence is showing. He's been the team's most dangerous offensive player. I think for a few

weeks now he's fielding greatly in the absence of Jordan Morris. He softened that blow a lot, and he got his reward with two goals, you know, two simple goals the finishes. But when you work hard and player as well as he's been playing, those things tend to go in your favor. So I think for the team it was a great show of character, you

know, giving up the lead and sticking with it. And I think if you're if you're sorry coming from behind, if you're the Sounders looking at the game against Charlotte where it was three three, back and forth, back and forth, and you felt like two points drops. This was a similar game. But he shows the team has grown because they were able to grind out

the victory and leave Canada with three points. That's absolutely right. And you mentioned the finishers by Leo Chu there and one thing that I want the highlight two is the fact that they're set piece goals. You know, a couple of them. And what you have is you have your center backs Jackson, Reagan, Yamar Gomez Andra is story of course, but Reagan assisting on them. The set pieces for the Sounders have seemingly gotten much better here of late.

It is, and it's strange because you have three very very capable players, you know, in Albert Russell, Na Jo Polo and the Coladero. All three know how to take a corner on how to put the board into a dangerous spot and we just haven't seen enough of that come into fruition so

far this season. I do know in talking to Brian Schmitzer that they focused on it a bit more, you know, really trying to put the board into the correct areas, the dangerous areas, making sure that the guys who are in the box running are running too the right spots, and it paid off this past weekend. I do think it's an area the Sounders can keep improving on. I mean, the size and aerial ability of Jackson Reagan,

for example, has got to be taken advantage of. And then when you have guys like you know, Leo two shows you can play in the box, so it can really Diaz and of course Yama who scored a game winning goal. You go all give them service, give them something to live off. And at the weekend it did. That minute paid off absolutely, dude.

That's the voice of Steve Zakiwani. He's the color commentator for the night's match, alongside play by playboys Danny Jackson Michelle Ludca on the sideline down there in San Jose at PayPal Park, Steve, let's take a look here at the delta starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders for what they're putting out tonight down there in San Jose. Stephen Cleveland is in goal in this four two three one formation, Cody Baker on the right, so Alex Rodan takes a seat

tonight he's on the bench. Gamar Goomaz Andrade and Jackson Reagan after their performances. Are you're starting center backs new as your left back holding midfielders, say the same, Jual Paulo obed Vargas also attacking midfielders the same, Nicholas Ladero on that right, Albert Russnack in the middle, Leo Chew off to the left, and it's a bear getting the start at the four position for all

Rudea. So if Steve two changes there for the Sounders with Baker and a bear coming in, what do you make though of the consistency overall for the most part with what Brian Spencer's putting out. Yeah, I think in general in the tenure of you know, Brian Schmitz, and we've seen these kind of weeks where having multiple games he normally rotates a lot more. But I think it just shows you know, the position the team is in. They want to keep momentum going, want to keep picking up points as well,

and so he hasn't changed anything unless he's had to. I think, you know, a bear coming in for Rui Diaz. We probably will see Raoul at some point today, but he's coming off an injury. You've got about eleven games left in the season. You want to keep Raoul fit. You want to have him for the home stretch. You want to have him hopefully in the playoffs should we get there. You want to have that kind of playoff that he's very best. So you're gonna have to manage his minutes and

so that's why he's on the bench tonight. And I think the same with Cody Baker. Cody Bakers played well in the absence of Alex Rodan. Alex, you always been doing a lot of traveling, playing in a Gold Cup, coming back, it's not easy getting back into your club routine. Gave us some very good minutes up in Vancouver at the weekend, and just give him a little break because again it's a short turnaround with the game at the

weekend. Again, so I think they're smart changes from Brian Schmittzer, but he's not changed too much flashing out a team to keep that consistency unfolded they've had recently going absolutely Steve. I want to follow up on both of those, but really quick. Shouldn't note new getting the start tonight. He's officially passing Chad Marshall for the most all time competition appearances by a Sounders FC defender. At one hundred and eighty seven. So congrats to new Who tonight.

But on the Cody Baker point, I mean, in the last couple of months, since he's come up and made an impact and signed to the first team, it just feels Steve like this kid can't put a foot wrong. He's making every right pass. You know, in the Portland game, he showed his attitude and he shows his shows his toughness. He's a blue collar, tough working kid, and it just feels like every time he's out there, he's a lockdown defender, you know, opposite the side of another lockdown

defender. This this defense right now, even when Alex rolled on his out and you can put Cody in, is still stacked with the with with the kid out there. Yeah yeah, and I think you know your final point in there, it's probably why he's seeing the pitch a lot. He's a lockdown defender. I mean sometimes you know, with Alex Rodunn, who's a very good defender as well, but we get so much from his attacking that

sometimes we only focus on that. You know, when Alex Rodown got into the attacking half, especially with Nikoladero playing on the right, he tucks inside. The width comes from Alex and he puts in very good service consistently for a number of years. Now. You're not gonna get that out of Cody Baker, but you will get the one v one defending. He loves to defend, doesn't mind mixing it up with anyone, you know, picked up a yellow card here and there. And I think branch Mets have values that

he loves. That he's tough, he's not being pushed around. And when you're on the road away from home in MLS, it's always always been hard to win. You know, a lot of things in the league have changed over the years. What hasn't is how hard it is to pick up points away from home. And so sometimes you do you need guys who are just there to defend. And then Cody Baker in Reagan Yama knew who you are. Four guys who not only are good at defending, but they actually love

to defend, and sometimes that's what you need away from home. Yeah, he mentioned mixing it up. I love to see him mixing up with Claudio Bravo in that Rolton game, and I can't wait to see more of that. If he brings that out tonight, but I mentioned Alex Rodan is on the bench for the Sounders. That bench also includes Andrew Thomas, Abizasoko Reed Baker Whiting, Josh Atensio, Dylan Tevez, Freddie Montero and Ral Ruid.

He has. Let's quickly dive into the Providence Swedish team health reports. Javier Ariaga has a right quad strain, Kellen Rowe with a right quad strain as well, and Stephen Fry is still in concussion protocol training injuries suffered last week. Also should mention Jordan Morris Christian rolled On. They're still with the United States men's national team. Steve, I'm not sure if you're following right now. Actually I'm watching his game. Is in the one hundred and eighteenth minute

United States versus Panama in the Gold Cup semi final. Christian rolled On and Jordan Morris both on the field for the United States as a few minutes away from penalty kicks that would decide who goes to the final of the Conquacalfe Gold Cup. So that's something that will stay tuned on here in the next few minutes of the Providence Swedish prematch show. But really quickly Stephen Cleveland. We

saw him out there. Yes, two goals go in the back of the net, Steve, but I think we all thought that Steph in Cleveland, they had a fantastic performance against the white Caps. He was brilliant. He was brilliant, and I think, you know, not much he can do

an either goal. So I think that the as a goalkeeper, if you can manage the thing you're supposed to manage, you know, the simple saves, catching the ball and coming out commanding your back line, and then you add a couple of special staves on top of that, you've had a great game. And that's exactly what he did. And we know how big the boots of Stephan Fry are to feel. You know, those are not easy

boots to come in and feel. So I think when you don't miss Stephan Fry as good as he is, as good as he's been, that's probably the biggest compliment I can pay to Stephan Cleveland that going into tonight's game, we're not too worried about what's happening between the sticks for the sounds. We know that when the saves there to be made, he's gonna make it. You know, a couple of seasons back. He had a super long running the team and didn't miss a beat, and he's picked up right where he's

left off. I think he's someone who listened. He's been patient, but he's probably already now at a start level in this league. He can go to a team and start somewhere. So the fact that have Stephan Fry and him as the backup, I think it speaks volumes for what the Thomas having that department. I think you nailed it. I think Stephen Cleveland is a top probably fifteen goalkeeper in this league, and it's it's amazing the Sounders have

him as their backup. That's certainly decisions ahead. But Stephen Cleveland exceptional at his position, and he is starting in goal tonight. Welcome back to the proud and Swedish premat show your Seattle Sounders facing the San Jose earthquakes down at PayPal Park in San Jose Stadium, right next to the airport. We bring in Steve Zakwani back down there and Steve, let's talk about these Santos eight earthquakes in our today's sharp vision opponent Alex. These earthquakes right now, you know, overall in MLS they haven't won a game in a

month. They have won beat Philadelphia two to one back on June tenth. Since then a dragins Parland, lost to Houston, lost to Saint Louis rout of the Galaxy, and then last weekend a draw against LAFC in the Western Conference overall seventh place at seven seven and eight. So being down there and getting ready for this match, what do you think of these Santos eight earthquakes right now? Yeah, the letter team that have had some good moments this

season. You know, if you with a coaching change and sort of a new shift in what they wanted their unfield culture to be, you can see some of the ideas coming together, but it hasn't especially the last month, produced any wins. But with that said, in the last two games at least they know how to find the back of the net. And I think the danger here now is in A Boba c and Espinoza's two players who on their day can really hurt you. And I think for the Sounders, you

come into this game, you don't watch the recent film too much. You sort of look at their old road trajectory, what they're trying to do. And I think, you know, for San Jose, if they can finish strong this season, they're a team that could scare a lot of team when

it comes to the postseason as well, and so their home film. You know, it's a team that over the years it's been a slightly difficult place for the sound has to come, but there has been some success here and I just think, you know, you have to, yes, acknowledge that in recent weeks they've not been winning, but it's a team that on their night, if those two guys, especially you know in the attack and half Ebobac and a Spinoza on their game, they can hurt anyone. That's absolutely

right. Espinoza, with his ten goals six assists. Eboboci with his seven goals and two assists, nobody else has more than two goals. It's those two guys you mentioned them. They are starting tonight as we take the look at this San Jose lineup, and in a few moments, Steve, I'm gonna ask you about your Sounders player to watch, but looking more at San Jose, Marsenkowski in goal, are defenders Marie Beason and Rodriguez is a Brazilian defender that they brought in a six two kind of rock for them. In

that back line, he's been really good. Judson Uzo a capo ska Han and then the two up front, Espinoza and Ebobacy. I mean, this is a very very good team for San Jose that the Sounders will need to shut down. I think you know we talked about Espinoza right there in an Ebobacy at the top. I think, really, Steve, for me, this match may come down to your defenders and then Jackson and the Amar who coming off offensive games, plus New plus Cody Baker for those guys coming off

of offensive games. It's for me a question of can they shut down these two guys for San Jose, because if you're able to shut them down, then you could be looking at a situation where the Sounders may only need one goal to come away with three points. Yeah, it's one of those games

where you know, you make anyone else beat you. You know, if you come into this game and you lose this game because you couldn't get handled on Espinoza O Bobs, then Brian Schmitz and they staff will be a bit disappointed because that's something they'd have pointed out in tem ends, they'd have trained for it. They're very looked in on that. And if somebody all steps up and has a career game and a breakout game, you hold your hands

up, you accept it. It is what it is. But I think for those two their known quantities, you know what they bring to the table, and I think that's informed a little bit of branch message decision in Santral saying, look, I'm gonna have to find a break for Alex Rodan in one of these next two games. Why not tonight when we're gonna probably have

to defend for large parts of the game. You know, if San Jose plays on the front foot, and let me put in Cody Baker, who's a lockdown defender of that knew who on the left, and then my two center backs also loves to defend, so I think that's why we've seen that. But also with that said, one of the best ways to prevent espinoza and a ball my favorite good games, it's not letting them have the ball. So I think for the Sounds, possession becomes important. Can you keep

it? Can you play the game in San Jose's half to kind of, you know, notify those two without even letting them get it ball. That's exactly right there, I see, let's switch gears. Let's look back. The Sounders are really quick. I will tell everybody that tonight's opponent, Alec was presented by Sharp Vision Modern laser can lens, the official laser invider of

standards FC. So taking a look at what Seattle has on the field, Steven, in case people are just joining us, same lineup as against Vancouver, except for two changes. Cody Baker in it right back for Alex road On, a Bear in it forward for rale Ruy Diaz. So Steve, who's used Sanders FC players to watch tonight? I think the first one I have to go with it is a Bear. I think because you know,

he came in, had a really good starts of the season. The hamstring injury did him no favors whatsoever, and it's tough to bounce back from that.

But he's now had you know, a few weeks back, he's had several minutes now and if he can get on any kind of you know, even a mini hot streak to close the season out, it takes a lot of pressure of what we're expecting maybe to get from Ruy Diaz when he gets fully fitting up to speed, just adding sort of maybe the goals that were lost with you know, we'll bring leaving in the off season because we'll Bruin would do that, come off the bench or get his starts here and there

and find the back of the net. So if a Bear can be active moving around creating chances and he just gets one to go his way, I can see him scoring you know, two, three, four to close on

a season here and that'd be huge. And the second one I will stick with Leo Chu as well, because I think Leo Chu he's just been in good form and you want to see him continue that for you know, a player like that in that kind of form, you want to keep stack into good games and he doesn't have to be the most dangerous player every game, but in every half, can he get two of free dribbles in two a free crosses in a couple of shots. If he does that, then he's

done his job. And he continues to get a sound at such a difference and a great outlet on the left hand side. Yeah, he's stretching the field with that speed and that burst. He's outstanding player of the match day for MLS last Saturday and those weekend games, just outstanding performance. You know, three goals, eight assists on the year for Chew certainly an All Star

snub. I'm gonna for my players to watch. I'm gonna go with the center backs and not only is it getting involved offensively coming off of those two games, but specifically Steve for me set piece defending, because Vancouvers scored their goals off set pieces, and you know, I just look at those opportunities for Vancouvers. You know, really, if you shore up that side of your defense right now and then there's not a lot of ways teams can beat

us. So, I mean those two goals against Vancouver, nothing Stephen Cleveland could but I think a lot that those center backs can do in terms of spacing, in terms of that pairing to make sure set pieces don't end up in the back of the net for the San Jose earthquakes tonight. So that's it, Steve. We know you got us take some take some time to prep there with Danny Jackson to get ready for the call. So we'll let

you go. You got the call with Danny Jackson and Michelle Luka coming up in just about fifteen minutes, so good luck, have a great call, and we'll talk to you in the postgame show. So pleasure, enjoy the game, and yeah, we'll talk Leo. That's Steve Zakowani down there at PayPal Park in San Jose. Will continue the Providence Swedish prematch show. We're gonna hear it from both Sounders goalkeeping coach Tommy Doutra and one of Steve's players

to watch there a bear at the ford position. We're gonna hear from Tommy and a bear coming up here in the next couple of segments of the prematch show. I'll also tell you that Regent's Blue Shield is proud to team up with local youth from Sounders FC Community Partners to present Regent's Dream Team. Well in case you're just joining us right now. For the Sounders, it's a similar online up to what we saw against Vancouver on Saturday. Just two changes a Bear in four roll Ruy Diaz as well as Cody Baker coming in for Alex Roldan. Those are the only two changes. Everything else the same, a

strong lineup from head coach Brian Schmetzer. One of Steve Zakiwani's players to watch was a Bear, and just before the premat show, Michelle Ludka had the chance to be down on the sideline and take a conversation with the Sounders starting forward tonight. Hey, Barr, you're back in the starting lineup tonight. What is your mindset going into the one to make immediate impact and also potentially look for your third goal of the season. Of course, I'm working for

that. I'm working to get my opportunity and the opportunities here. I need to do my best like how I'm doing on training, and everything is gonna be good. The team's coming off two wins in a row, while San Jose hasn't won an over a month. How can you exploit that recent run a bad form on their end and kind of play off of your recent stint

of momentum. It's like I think, especially here MLS doesn't matter the moment's game by the game, by a game, because sometimes you have the team and down the table play against the first ones, and the teams as now they can win, you know, everything can happen. We need to to enter with their right foot in the in the game. We need to start. It's very fox because someone say it's very good team. They went there at our home and get three points, and today we need to do everything

what you can to get this third winning their role. That's a bear with Michelle Ludkell, your sounders starting for Tonite A Bears taking the start four roll Ruy Diaz I like to change for Brian Schmenscher because you got Roll coming off of a hamstring strain and and he's had a couple of these injuries this year a few of them, and going back the last couple of years he's had to deal with these things. And you know, listen, eleven games left

in the regular season. The name of the game for me has always been be healthy come October November. Because we've looked back to the Sounders from twenty sixteen to twenty twenty making all those MLS Cups. I mean, it really very well could have been four straight MLS Cups had the team not had Christian rolled on and Chad Marshall go down in that playoff game down there in Portland, he could have been five straight MLS Cups at the end of the day.

That that's just one example, but it goes to the point of be healthy come playoff time and good things will happen. So make sure ral Ruidiaz stays healthy and you're golden and a big part of that absolutely give a bear some time and he listened. He scored a cup games, story scored a couple of goals at the start of the year. He has the ability, he just needs to put himself in those dangerous positions and you know, get a little bit of luck. He's been a little bit unlucky of late so

good stuff there from a bear down there with Michelle Ludcup. Well, we'll take one more break and can come back on the Providence We prematch show here from Tommy Jutra as Stephen Cleveland gets the start tonight for the Sounders in Goal. Danny Jackson, Steve Zakilani, Michelle Ludko will have the call really quick update. In the United States game there in the Concocalfe Gold Cup, it was a semi final game against Panama. It went to penalty kicks was four or four after five rounds, so

they went to sudden death. Christian rolled On was up sixth for the US, had his penalty saved. Panama hit and Panama goes through to the final in the Gold Cup. The United States are eliminated, so Jordan Morris, Christian Oldon are done in the Gold Cup. We'll see if they could potentially add anything for the US come Saturday against Dallas. But a sad, sad ending for the United States losing there in the final. The semifinals of the

Gold Cup. Well, we turned by our attention back to Sounders San Jose. I'll tell you the Seattle's all the time fifteen thirteen and nine against the Earthquakes and MLS. They last played at the end of May, which was a one nothing loss for the Sounders. Back there at Lumen Field, Stephen Cleveland in goal for the Sounders tonight. Before we head off to San Jose, let's hear from the Sounders goalkeeping coach Tommy Dootra on Cleveland stepping into goal

as stef Cleveland back in the starting lineup tonight. What does it say about his skill set and his abilities that he's able to fill in, of course on short notice and still finished with an impressive finish like we saw in Vancouver. Yeah. I think the horriston for a backup goalkeeper is to come in with any kind of rhythm when you haven't been playing, and so for him to come in and show what he can do with no game center spelled other

than open cup games was pretty impressive. You never want to see a player injured, and unfortunately that's usually the situation when you see a backup, especially at the goalkeeper position, because only one gets to play. How hard is it, you know, for players to have that kind of intensity knowing that, again, there is only one opportunity. But on the flip side of that, maybe the silver lining that when someone does get injured, someone else

does get that moment. Yeah, it's tough. I always like guys they you know, there's only one guys who gonna play the position. I can't make you a right back, and so with four of them competing every day, I always ask him just to support the guy who's playing, and when you get your chance, we're gonna support you. What does Steph need to be on the lookout for tonight, Well, I think the most dangerous thing

for them is just the crosses they put in the box. They're you know, obviously their striker is quite good in the box, and I think that's the thing he's you have to be most aware of. Obviously they're Seppi. They're very good. Coach, Thanks so much for the time, Good luck tonight. Thank you. That's Sounders goalkeeping coach Tommy Jutra there with Michelle Ludca and Stephen Cleveland stepping into goal for the Sounders tonight. Let's head out to

Easy to drink, easy to enjoy, Please enjoy responsibly. Now time for Sounders fcsucker. Good evening from PayPal Park in San Jose, California, where your Sounders take on Western Conference rival. They're San Jose Earthquakes twenty twenty

three continues to reap rewards for a new look San Jose Earthquakes. Losing just once at home all season, San Jose is looking a true contender for the playoffs. MLS All Star Christine Espinoza and forward Jeremy Ebobse have contributed to sixty five percent of San Jose's total goals on the season, while the defense continues to play well, conceding sixteen fewer goals this season than at the same stage last year. For the Sounders, they come into San Jose off the back

of an emotional come from behind win last Saturday Night in Vancouver. Two goals by MLS Player of the Match day Leo You and a winner from the unlikeliest of goal scorers in Yemarkomes Andradi seeal a victory that could shape the remaining twenty twenty three campaign. The Sounders will look to repeat the combination of dominant possession with a goal scoring threat against their oldest rivals. My name is Danny Jackson

alongside former Sounders winger Steve Zaquani for the call tonight. Before we get to Steve for his initial thoughts, let's get you the starting eleven for both teams. The Delta starting eleven for your Sounders Steph Cleveland and goal about four Cody Baker coming in for Alex Roldan Yema. Two assists managed Jackson, Reagan and knew Who on the left hand side Obert Vargas alongside JP, Niko Ludero,

Albert Rosneck, Leo Chu on the left hand side. After those goals and assists in the last game, and a bare comes in for ral Rudy az up top, let's give you Luchi Gonzales lineup for San Jose, j T Marsenkowski in goal for the suspended danielle A back forth, Akapo, Rodriguez Beeson and Troco Espinoza, Judson, Gretzo and Paul Marie. And then an attacking lineup of Ska hand and further forward is Jeremy if Bob say so, Steve, as we get lined up here ready to go. What does the Sounders

have to do to get that third win in a row tonight. Yeah, I think it needs to be a good start again. And the good start today looks a bit different to at home. It's not necessarily coming out souper on the front foot trying to get a lot of shots off. I think

you stay solid, you stay in the game. You don't let San Jose get off to the races and then you build your game from there or gets going long diagle from San Jose. Cushion head about Jackson Reagan flicked by knew who on the fast side the left, the Sounders wearing their rave green shirts, blue shorts and green socks, shooting to the goal to our right and

San Jose picks it up twenty five yards. That takes a strike a little pop shot blocked by Jackson Reagan and Cody Baker will knock it into Ladera who drops into Obed Vargas back to Ladare on this right hand side. Continues to play in that right midfield position as Albert Rosneck after a goal against Houston and assist there for the last goal for Yemar as he flicked it over the top four. Leo Chu had a as we mentioned a player of the match day

performance in Vancouver, two goals and we'd call it an assist. It was a shot that was blocked, wasn't given officially, but certainly made that goal happen as Leo Chu fast side the left, cuts in inside on the halfway line to Rusneck showing well. Ober Vargas got some pressure. Sun Jose playing a little high press right now with ska hand. The unc Chapel Hill Collegiate player Sport gets chushioned to him flicked in the outside the foot by Yayma flicked

away by Paul. Marie's going to play a slight higher line today in a or the left midfield position, as Troco's going to play in behind, and as the Sounders build out the back for the first time this evening, We're going to throw it down to Michelle Ludger. Good even to Michelle Good evening, Danny. I've got a few interesting numbers for the match up here tonight. Of course, the Sounders are fifteen thirteen and nine in regular season play

against San Jose. But coming into tonight's match, Seattle has only won one of their last five matches against the Earthquakes. The last time they won actually here was in two thousand and one. However, the Earthquakes have won just one game in their last six. Well, of course, we know the Sounders have won two in a row, looking to make it three in a row tonight. The last little interesting little tidbit here is the Sounders are winless

currently this season on short turnarounds. I asked Brian Schmittzer about it earlier in our production meeting. He wasn't aware of that stat but eager once I told him to change that tonight as they look for their first win on a Wednesday night in twenty twenty three, Thank you Michelle. Yet three game week for the Soundest to close out this initial puck of the MLS season. Leagu's Cup coming up in mid to late July, so two games await to hit six

points. Can they match that forty one point total that they got last season? Currently sitting on thirty five points and second place. As Obert Vargas shifted to the left hand side, Lee or Choo coming inside, running across the field, plays it till Ladera pinched him from his right midfield spot. JP is always providing some support, little combinations with Rosnack head up, ten men behind the ball for San Jose is trying to absorb this initial pressure from the

Sounders. As Judson in the lineup today, Jackson, you're got called up to national team duty last week. Kay Cool missing for San Jose. Also play some games in Gold Cup scored and that PK shootout against Canada earlier in the week, but Steves the game gets kind of going San Jose about a solid start to Luci Gonzalez his reign as coach, Sitting currently at twenty nine points. Like we said, they're also six points away from getting to that

thirty five point total from twenty twenty two. Yeah, and I think a point you made earlier than he just the improvement in terms of goals conceded and they're much more solid defensively. I mean that's a massive swing from one season to the other. But so far to I think the Sounders were and you're gonna have time on the board. No job, Parlo and Vargas have been able to pick up the board. San Jose aren't really engaging until the Sounders

get into approach the final third. So russ Na, Gladero, Vargas job part of the guy you think up send your position will get a lot of the board at San Jose. I'm so happy to sit back, invite the pressure, and then engage as a Sounders start approaching behalf. Well. Certainly, Michelle's comment about not playing getting results in those short weeks is interesting.

We thought Brian may make some more substitutions today after that win against Vancouver as Rosdak picks up drives forward middle of the field twenty five yards and gold ladera pop shot blocked by sant Jose at the top of the box. The jack Skihan's gonna pull it away, a little bit of pressure from Obed Vargas this near side the left Sant Jose in their blue black shirts, black shorts and black socks attacking the gold to our left towards the airport, the open side

of the stadium. Here, a real beautiful night to play the game. Blue sky, not a cloud in the sky. As the sun starts to set, the field is bathed in shadow. Really comfortable night to play the game. As San Jose pick up a free kick just inside the sound as half on the left of center, it's gonna be Chroco. It's gonna pick

it up. The left footed play on the left hand side as you mentioned Paul Marie a traditional left back, as well as playing a little higher up the field in front or get shifted directly all the way down to Espinoza on a your stelly year for Espinoza All Star selection as he gets bundled over by Leo Chu combination of hip and legs. Espinoza goes down about twenty five yards from the end line, right corner of the box, and he's the danger

man. I think, I think knew who has historically played well against him. Branchmister made that point to day also earlier when we spoke of him, and he's absolutely right. But when you scort ten goals in a season here and play as well as Espinosa has been playing between him and the Bobs you saw, if you can shut that down, then who else and Santose can be you and that will be branch Smister's mindset is, if we lose today, it's gonna because some one has a breakout game, has an all star

level tap games. It cannot be a ball within Espinosa. Those two non quantities we've trained four prepared for. We know what he can do. Our game panics will stop them and have someone else be us. Espinosa here on the free kick, he's got the most corner kicks any player in the MLS by a mile. As the ball comes in whipped in, bounces around the eighteen yardbus eventually knew who picks it up. A little sure pass there, it's a heavy touch San Jose able to clear it up and as Steve mentioned,

ten goals six assists on the year for Espinosa. He was a coach's pick by Wayne Rooney for the All Star game coming up against Arson in the middle of the month. As the ball gets shifted to this near side the left to grow up so hard nosed central midfield. Player's gonna play alongside Judson, who made his hundredth game in MLS for San Jose just a couple of weeks ago. Ball ricochets for San Jose. Player continues to roll along the

line, not going out. Ball gets not bad by Knew who to Jackson Reagan, nice cultured ball down the line, good touched by Leo Chu. He's got some space on the far side of the left, but Albert Roszak's gonna drive forward with the ball. They are true showings in the box. He's got the ball at his feet, cuts inside into a bare top of the box. They shoots and a good saved by marstin Kowski down to its left. It was a quick turn from about thirteen yards out by a bear.

He's able to swivel shoot down to martin Kowski's left, but the big goalkeeper goes down. Makes the safety's like, oh, it's a good attack, and I like everything about that. The composure of Jackson Reagan's not just clear the board, but find as you mentioned, a nice cultured pass and he finds it really well there into Leo Chu. Then then the breakout there

with Leo Chu and Albert Russknack leading a counter attack. When it landed a Bear does everything great good turn gets he's shot off just not enough in the corner, too close to the goalkeeper. But a very very promising attack from the sounds there early on there, showing the outwing transition. The San Jose

team can be vulnerable. Yet Marson Kelsey started the season Daniel's come in an offseason acquisition, got a red card and that most recent game against LAFC in the fifty sixth minute, but San Jose in LA We're able to hold on with ten men all the way to the end, even after seven or eight minutes of injury time. Huwanga and Coke could not break through and San Jose

able to grind out another draw against LA ten. The previous week tying up two two against LA Galaxy in front of forty two thousand plus fans at Stanford Stadium. As Cody Baker back in the lineup for the rested Alex Roldarm back from Gold Cup duty, he put in a real good shift against Vancouver, got stubbed out just after just at the ninetieth minute, Markers ball goes into Rusnack middle of the field, Cody Bakers showing this near side the right available.

He goes back to JP, finds that pocket of space. It bed good layoff all the way out to Leo Cho good ball by Rsnack towards the end line, cuts inside, defending by San Jose, but it's gonna be JP twenty five yards from goal to open Vargas right of center out to this

right hand side. Ladero holding his discipline holding that right hand side. Let's steve nice calm start to the game for the Sounders in Vancouver was a combination of really good possession sixty six percent possession or sofa the game against Vancouver, but they got their goals as well. Yeah, and I think it's been a very good start. I think Branshmiths will be very pleased. You know,

Stephan Cleveland hasn't been called into action yet. On the other side, you're getting job part of Rusnack on the ball a lot, and the Sounders maybe just can get a little bit more when you get the ball into the final third, and they have so far Espinoza's side steps new but it's Jpu comes flying across. There's what he does so well. Read the game, picks up the pieces, wins the ball comes away with it and now it's Rosnack cross into San Jose territory on the fast side the left to Leo Cho

plays it back to knew who Sounders. It's gonna build up now with some possession in the back. Jackson Reagan missed out to the year card accumulation against Houston, came back against Vancouver and provided those two assists for Leo. Chewy was a Ladero Reagan Chew combination for those first two goals. As the ball goes out to Cody Baker this near sither right, good ball along the box to Bear try to knock the ball back to Ladero, gets cut out by

San Jose, but it's gonna be a Sounders throwing back into Ladero. Sound is getting this game going quickly. To have played the temper. Look lot Kroif turned through the legs of Judson. Judson knocks over oh but Vargas on this near side, about twenty five yards from the corner. Flager's gonna be a Sounders free kick. A little bit surprised early on just how easy the

Sounds are able to play through sandals. I mean, Jackson Reagan's getting so much time on the board as a j mark and there finding board through the lines there turned to the Ladero to Rosnack to John Parlor with a time in space. So you've got to fin the sounders to be able to create a lot from central areas. Just based on what we've seen so far. There

was a good quick ball into Rosnack in the box. It was blocked well, but the Sounds able to pick it up middle of the field with new who and Cody Baker's Steve mentioned comfortable in possession, no real pressure on the ball. The GP is able to play Diagne towards the big presence of Jackson. Reagan goes Ova, Jackson goes to Leo. Two rolls over the end line. It's going to be a San Jose goal kick here in the eleventh minute PayPal Park, San Jose, California at ninety three point three KGr FM.

It's the Earthquake's nail Sounders nil. You mentioned marson Kowski decked out in all red, puts the ball in the six yard box, coming in for Dannielle, who's really been a great acquisition in the offseason. As we mentioned, marson Kowski is not a reserve player in any way, shape or form.

Played a lot of games in MLS for today at twelve games on the season, majority being in the first part of the season with three clean sheets, fifteen goals against as Rodriguez the middle of the field about twenty five yards from his own goal, a little bit of pressure from it there. We'll see the line of competition for the Sounders as they go. Now so to press with Ladera this near side the right about to Beason, who knocks it

down the line to Yama. Good quick ball, step over by Rassneck finds Leo two middle of the field into a bear, tries to step over again, almost found Ladero, but well read by San Jose and it's ska hand comes away that shifts the ball to the fast side the right to Acapul You're gonna play it in a Spinoza to the right hand side in support against knew who knew who stands him up well, wins the ball. Pressure from Espinosa goes off at Espinoza's chest. Could be a Sounders throwing fast side the left

about five yards from the corner flight. But maybe a small picture there of what sanads A trying to do. They absorb the pressure when there a chance of gathering transition. It was quick they sent numbers forward. So maybe a team that's showing us they're not gonna try and output us the Sounders. Out past the Sounders, you can have the ball, but when you lose it, even in the attacking fod the Sounders, you've got to get back very

quickly. Because Espinoza Bobisi they get outline right, and that's maybe the game plan that Luto was on. It's gone with tonight. He as we mentioned Espinosa scoring in both the last two games against both LA clubs to LAFC last week and then the LA Galaxy, So certainly it been on a tear and worthy of that ball Star selection alongside Jordan Morris which comes up in mid July against Arsell. Yeah, the San Jose gonna slowly walk over pick this ball

up in twenty yards from the corner of FLA the fast side. The San Jose right goes short into Bob's a big, powerful presence able to twist and turn, flicks the ball to this near side to Roco Paul Marie in support. Gamar reads it well, goes across easily collected by Steph Cleveland in the Sounders goal decked out all yellow, run to the edge of the box looking to play the ball quickly and with that we're gonna throw it down to Michelle. Yes, you guys, we're talking a lot about Espinoza, and there's

one other statistic that I would like to point out today. Obviously we know what a threat he is when he's taking a shot on but also he's currently tied for first with fifty assists in the club. He's if he gets an assist today or whenever he does get his next assists, he will be the sole leader in club history for the amount of assists that he's had since joining Santa Jose. Thanks Michelle Chaselinas. Right now joined with fifty with Espinosa.

Chaselinas the long serving veteran of this San Jose team for so many years. Espinosa just doing it in four or so seasons, so just shows the quality that Espinosa's brought to this team. Does he try to resign him? Sure

to keep him. As Leochu comes inside, flexible around a corner. Could I well by Rodriguez to JP middle of the field of sound has pick it up with Vargas tos nearside the right Cody Baker as sometime it's space decides to go back to Vargas and certainly Brian Schmitza talking about cody Is ability to defend one v one, Certainly there's not many teams that have the ability of both New and Cody Baker either flank as one v one fenders. It's ud a

bit goes up Flix, the ball rolls over the end line. It gonna be a goal kick for San Jose. That Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Steve A perfect night to play the game. This is when you want to play. No sun, perfect weather, perfect climate, soccer specific stadium here. It really isn't It's

such an interesting location here. I've been right about the airport, you know, watching a game of watching planes land close by, so maybe really it's well the way, it's great that the grass down there in the pitch is really really good condition, and I think it makes out for two teams I want to play. Would have pulled on the ground and try and make the

game that way suddenly has helped the Sounders so far. I think it's been a very very good opening sixteen minutes about the Sounders in terms of possession, their intention having created as much as maybe the culture staff would like, but having it's very promising. Leo Chu chase about with a capo and there's a great job getting a shouldering between the ball and player just knocks off the San Jose right back, does his defensive duties and Steve that's something that she was

certainly brought into his game this season especially. Yeah, and you can see he's probably been spoken to about that by the coaching staff and you don't want him to become a full time defender, but when it's on and you have

to do it, get a job done, you know. And that's also where as a young player to stay on the pitch a bit more because if maybe your offensive game isn't on that day, but the coach staff can trust that you'll be disciplined defensively, you'll provide cover for new when you need to.

I think that also goes a long way, and certainly an area of Choo's game that's been added to even though we've been focusing more on her assists and the boat, he's done a lot as well off the board movement Yamar into the feet of a bad cushion as well, just so well with his back to goal. Saw that in the first couple of games when he got the game, the team going with his back to goal got those two goals against RSL and Colorado. Looking for that third goal of the season. Love

to get it there on the score sheet tonight. Our guests getting a really good run along side JP after coming back from you twenty national teams. JP all at its feet, a little bit of pressure with Boberse finds Vargas able to turn the center of the field, finds Rusnak. Rusnak finds che Got a bit of time and space, rolls it into a bend inside the box, little flick to Leo Chew and doesn't quite Knever good build up by the

Sounders. It's San Jose was able to find Espinosa. Brilliant pulled down by Espinosa as he rolls the ball square to ski hand, skips by JP, flashes past Vargas top of the box twenty five yards out into a bobersea inside the box checks around Yamar. It looks like it's a pKa given to San Jose. Ball got shifted from Espinosa to ski hand skahand was able to wriggle free of both JP and Obed Vargas found a Bobersea top of the box who

took a couple of touches inside flicked it around Yamar. It was a trailing yegg by Yama who just caught the Bobos say he went down pekake in by the referee. Yeah, we just talked about that. This came from a Sounders attack. It was a bear on the end of six shard box in the Sandals a box and within ten seconds or so the Signs are conceding a penalty there. But that's what Salles I've wanted to do. Those very little complaints from Yama, which I've not seen a replay, but it leads me

to believe that there was contact. You know, Bobos is not a player who goals to the ground easily. So we've seen a replay now here. It's a great piece of tricker there. It's a foul, it's a penalty, correct decision and for the Sounders that they're good positive start. It takes one counterattack to blame too Silos's hands, that's when they wanted to do.

And now Espinosa a a chance for goal number eleven on the season. You have a good play by is offensive teammate that bobos say seven goals in this season so far, as Steve mentioned, ten goals in the season for a boat for a Christiane espinosas he lines this one up, steps up, couple of touches, short steps, goes down and it's in abe corner when she just slid underneath. Steph played once right and play and made the guess right

went to his right corner. But it was the pace of the ball and the accuracy of the ball into the bottom corner and against the run up play San Jose go up one goal to nail against the Sounders. Well, Stephan Cleveland guess is the right way, but Espinosa puts it right in the corner. It's a very Welsh drup penalty in the end, nice alow what you're talking to do, yet right in the corner of their inside the side in

there. And this probably now plays even more into the game plan for the Earthquakes where they have the lead something to defend and protects now, and now the Sounders have to expand, open up, come a bit more and you have to fitness. Going to be more chances in transition on the counter attack for the sounderse earthquakes, but for the Sounders, don't panic, don't change too much. You made a good start to the game, got quite a

transition. But everything you've been doing so far has been the right thing. And you've got a field. You're still a lot of chances in here for the Sounders, and we're very, very early in the evening, as you mentioned, sixty nine percent possession of the Sounders, have three shots on goal against two shots for San Jose, one of them of course being for the goal. And you don't see Yama making many mistakes this year. He's been

top notch in terms of his play in the back alongside Jackson Reagan. It's not just as individual play leading MLS with interceptions coming into tonight's game with fourty nine of course, got the game winning goal against Vancouver, but betting in a new playing Jackson Reagan has also added the responsibility and he's been fantastic. He's been flawless roally. To tell you the truth and you don't really see him leaves legs out like that for a challenge where Bob we see, yes,

it was a nice little faint to get inside. But very rarely do you see Yama get caught flat footed like that and sort of reaching and it was appenalty, you know, and listen. It just shows you how good of a season he's been having. And Jackson Reagan, because the Sounders really don't find themselves in that position often they have tonight and build adversity if they want to make it three wins in a role has to be overcome. Cody Baker is able to flick it off a heel of sounds a great throw into

Ladero fans him in the box. It was just one touch by Ladero trying to find a bear. It was cut out well by San Jose. It's gonna be a Sounders throwing the ten yards from the corner flag this near side the right in the hands of Cody Baker. Jackson Reagan is going to run up into this near corner of the six yard box. Goody Baker's definitely got a big throw. Beason is able to clear his head, gets in front of Jackson Reagan it's gonna roll over or an exolute you Gonzalez who lets it

go. But Cordy Baker picks up another ball, ball in quickly to the feet of the bare FLEs it back to Cody Baker whips it him with his right foot near post, awkward for Rodriguez off his chest, rolls over the end line for a Sounders corner kick. That's near side the right, and it's good from Cody Baker. You know, we said he's in the team many for his defending and anything you get offensive will be a bonus. But he's been very active, taken up high positions on that occasion that puts the

ball into a dangerous area, awkward for Samose to defend. It's been a good start by the young man on his right hand side for the Sounders so far, offering a lot in the offensive half. Maybe morning we expected JP steps up to take this corner kick on this like I said, it's near side the right. It could be outswinging corner kick. Ladera lets it go. Sounds set up on the peakk spot making their runs here. It comes ball in middle of the eighteen yard but it's cleared well by San Jose finds

a chest of Cody Baker flix it to JP towards the end line. Just Cody Baker keeps it well. It's New turns swivels right footage shot from a really tight angle. Wasn't gonna beat Marsenkowski from that angle, but good play by Cody Baker is able to retrieve that ball towards the end line, gets the ball in, but San Jose come again, launches it long. It was Troco all the way to Espinoza New trying to cushion her head back.

It comes off Espinosa. Eventually assistant referee puts his flag up for an offside, but spend it like it matters by Sporting by Park and diverse owned businesses all year long. Visit intentionalist dot com to find a business near you. As the ball goes along, skips through the back four of San Jose, who was two almost got in the end of it was Marsenkowski made a bit

of a mess, misread the ball. He's able to scramble and flick it over the end line for a Sounders corner kick the fast side the Sounders left to be Rosneck with his right foot in swinging corner kick. This time Ladero in support eight yards away along the touch line. Rosneck fakes it, backs up, puts his hand up. Sounders reset in the box five Sounders players sitting just the top of the six jar Bucks. Ball comes in good delivery.

Rodriguez clears it well with his head. It's a good touch around the corner by Paul Marie, but Obed Vargas reads it well, gets his body between ball and player. It's Paul Marie who shoves Obed Vargas down to the ground and Robert looks like he had a nasty nasty four there is holding his hand, holding his arm. The referee went down to take a look and quickly brought on Chris Cornish. Stephen looked more like the awkward landing than anything

else, but referee certainly called on medical staff quickly. Yeah, it was good defending by Albert Vargas, say, because he gets his body right in front of the man that as you should. And then it's just as he goes to ground there. Yeah, he's got to be he's landed on something. It's very hard to tell from this anger that we have up here, but he's holding his forearm. You know, he's been attending to by the

Sounders training staff right now. You're hoping it's nothing too serious and he can get up, but definitely in some discomforts all of his teammates around there surrounding him. You know, we hope, oh, Betty know, just it feels a little bit of pain. It will be okay, But definitely went down hard on that left arm, it looks like, and that's where a lot of his attention has gone through. Yeah, we're just seeing the replay. It was his whole body weight collapsed on that forearm. See if it's

an elbow shoulder, it was forearm. Certainly looks in a lot of pain as he sits on the medical staffer holding his arm in place. Josh Atencio is getting warmed up with Dylan Taverns. If we looked down to our left hand side, going through them some quick motion here to get warmed up. Certainly on the response of the medical staff as they look up, it's like it's going to be some change required from the Sounders as Mike Morris. Doctor

Morris runs on the field to provide additional attention. Steve ober i Argus is at a good run. It took him a game or two to get kind of back to the rhythm of playing in the first team with MLS after coming back from World Cup duty with the twenties. That's played solid alongside JP.

Yeah, and you can turn out Branch Mensa really likes him there alongside Joe Polo all but it's sort of engine the amount of ground he covers or the dirty work he does there, and it's just it's just unfortunate because he suffers this injury while doing the things he does very well, covering ground, tracking back, putting his body between the man and the board, and with the trainer there, doctor Morris there as well. He's been down two three minutes

now, so it doesn't look good for the young man here. The Sounders coaching staff deep in conversation trying to think off alternatives as well. Well. Brush. It's just as he see him on his feet with Andy Rose, with Precy or some of the medical staff just have have a conversation about what to do. Yeah and oh, but he's running off and he's running so we just yeah, we'll see if he needs to have the arms support in anyway. But he's in a very good sign. He's running off arms.

He used to be moving okay, and he don't look like he's gonna continue. Yep, certainly looks like it's gonna be coming back on the field. The medical staff are just having a check. Paul Maurice stepped ober as a Obed Vargas run off, just to give him a handshake. Paul Jazz for the flash of bodies. Sometimes those awkward falls create the most damage, and certainly for oh, but we hope that he's gonna be okay. Stepped in for JP and that CCL final back last May and then quickly thereafter got injured

set him back for the rest of the season. But with that, Michelle, we're gonna throw down to you with any update. Yes, it's looking like a left wrist or hand injury. He was just on the sideline here before going back in and he was kind of making a fist and stretching his fingers out over and over repeatedly while talking to the training staff before dragging back onto the field. But he's back on there now and things look good, So hopefully it was just a minor sprain or just a you know, funny

bone of some sort. Yeah, sometimes that nerve damage can be extremely painful when your Paul arm goes numb, but right now, lobit, it looks pretty good. You saw JP go off against Vancouver with a clash of heads, got a staple on the bench. We saw it from advantage point, and certainly the fans who were probably two rows behind JP won't forget that incident as he got stapled on the bench and then came back to play the rest of the game. Whether the sound has wanted it to death with Yama.

Here's JP now as he swings the ball across Puddy Baker's a really good job of clecting that ball he slipped initially came inside, said a little wider. I think JP remonstrating with his right back to stay wider. Cuddy Baker pinch inside. The ball was designed for an outside pass, but San Jose gonna

pick it up this near side. Sant Jose's left with Troco, so throws the ball down the line flicked by your Bobose and as of course we remember Bobose with his time with Portland. As the Bear drops the ball off to Rusneck, Ladero trying to find some pockets of space in front of Yama's Yama rolls it out to Cuddy Baker. Baker tries to do a one touch pass, scrambles free. The ball gets built up quick pressure by Chew and it's good pressure by the Sounders as they pick it off the feet of San Jose

and his Obed Vargus driving forward now plays the ball to Leo. Chew flicks around the corner and it's Grutzo comes in strong like it's over top of the ball, pushes Obed Vargas away. There's gonna be as Sounders throwing here in the twenty ninth minute, Sant Jose off the PK goal by s Spinos are leading one goal to nil here at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, ninety three point three KGr fm. Good pressure by the sound is JP frustrated

foul given on JP for that pressure. But see if the Sound is now pressing a little higher tray and win that ball. Yes they are, And I think we've now seen this sort of pattern this game is going to settle into. Since the Sound Jose Gold, they've had very little interest in building any kind of sustained possession in the Sound as half. Everything is pretty direct trying to hit the Sounds on a counter attack as they're trying to do right

now, San Jose. But allow when the sound is a lot of possession and the sound as you know, a first and mlescent terms of passes in the opponent's half. And that's been more the story tonight. Just not enough of a punch once he got a round the box on the final third. Maybe that can change. In the final fifteen minutes of this half, Leo two against Rodriguez. Rodrigue comes away with it. The two had to step initially, Rodriguez a little nudge, Afre gave no foul, but San Jose

gonna come away with it. San Jose leading here in San Jose, California, one goal to nil after and Espinoza nineteenth minute pk a foul by Yamarna I. Bobis just inside the box as Zanjose build it the fast side the

right that Coupo the right back advance plays it down the line. Espinosa trapped by Rosna, whipped in headed clear by Jackson Reagan well cushion headed by Ladero to Obed Vargas miscontrol took his eye off the ball for a split second as Paul Marie, who collects the top of the Box plays it out wide to Espinoza, goes through the legs of Nu, who flicks up in the air

by JP collects it again. Espinoza goes flying in. JP takes that momentum skips by him, carries the ball forward and shifts the ball to the center of the field to Ladero, who drags it forward across the halfway. Like Cody Bakers supporting for this nearside the right, Daro goes the other way, clips off of San Jose player. Rodriguez picks up the loose ball. He's able to collect it no real pressure from the Sound as JP closest, he's able to cross into Sound as half of the field. Or was it to

Espinosa to Boberse seventeen goals in twenty twenty two? Did the Bobose We'll get shifted again to Espinoza because Steve Sound has just taking their breath, just dropping up the line of confrontation. San Jose building some possession. Yeah, and I think you know, the game pen is one thing. Sometimes you take what the game gives you. Santose season on opportunity here to have a bit more sustained possession. They've been doing a lot of chasing, a lot of

running, trying to close gaps. The sound has asking a lot of questions Santos after strung so far and just for the first time in the game. Now the Sounders giving up possession, happy to stay in a mid block here, shifting side to side, defending really well so far. Stephen Clevelands had an extremely uneventful half. But the big stat that matters is one note San Jose. They got their penalty put away and the onus now is on the Sounders. So I think there's a couple more gears in the sound has seen

the past has been good. I think the tempo of play can be absolutely increased and need to get Leo Chew and a Bear involved in a game just a little bit more. JP ball runs away from him. Referee is not going to give a foul. Who's on Gretz. The Sounders keep going. Keep the ball middle of the field, with Ladero twenty five yards from Gold, try to slip it into a Bear went to his right, Ladero went pushed the ball to his left. It rolls through to Marsenkowski in the San

Jose goal. But this copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. So we're here in the thirty third minute San Jose, California, PayPal Park, Steve mentioned San Jose leading one goal to nil the back of an Espinoza PK. In the nineteenth minute. Sounds continue to dominate possession sixty six percent possession so far in this game, but it's about possession with a purpose.

Marsenkowski had one safe to make off a bear and nothing much after that. As the ball gets shifted top of the box with Paul Marie overlapping run, comes inside to ski Hand, skips by JP, cleared now by Yama as Ladera puts pressure on Judson, rolls it over to Truco, comes inside, flicks it around the corner back to Judson, Ladera putting a little bit of pressure on his opened Vargas comes across to support Cody Baker. It's a

little pressure on Paul Marie. Let's get flicked around the corner, but it's gonna be JP picks the ball up the middle of the field, drives forward, no real options if they're showing him be high, and he does goes in towards the top of that eighteen year box. Marsenkowski read, the play comes out clex, the ball rolls it out to Rodriguez, then Santos, able to build out the back steams a quarny Well, I don't mind that from John Parlo. There now occasion a four going under the five, six,

seven, eight nine past sequence. Trying to play a bit more direct, Aben makes a running behind. It was an over hit pass by John parloor definitely not what he'd had in mind. But you do have to mix up sound as I've had enough attacks in this half where they've got into the sunders a half and it's multiple passes. It slows down a little bit, so just a little change of pace, a dynamic running behind by a bond

that occasion. Not quite on the same page as jar Parlo, but good to see the sounds at least able to mix up in the attack at half sounds put a little bit of pressure with Rosneck and the Bear as they step up the line of confrontation because Ladera shifts into his right hand side, whose judge and is able to collect it easily. Turns in the middle of the field, but tries to find Espinoza, defeat well, defended again by Chew. Tries to Riggle free clipped by Gretz. We'll see if the referee gives

a yellow card. Nothing given. JP asking for a yellow card gets a little cynical in the middle of the field. It's gonna be as Sounders free kick on the halfway line. But twenty twenty three League Cup tickets are on sale now. In the thirty fifth minute of Papal Park in San Jose, California, ninety three point three KGr FM sounds trailing one goal to nil as Rosnack top of the box, plays it to Leo. Chew runs inside. Rosnak clecks it inside the box back to Leo, Chew to LADERA quick snapshot finds Rosnack inside the box to Leo. Chu flicks to Ladero twenty

yards from gold. Pressure from Paul Marie finds Leo Chew clips to the top of the box. Nothing given it was Beason Well reckless on the top of the box. Nice still flick by Yemo on the clearance and the sound has retained possession. Middle of the field, just outside the center circle in San Jose half of the field. Ladera coming short clecks it quick Loo turn finds Cody Baker on this father it's nearside the right because he's hugging the touch line.

Goes in short to JP from Ladero. Paul Marie went to the deck. JP held his feet, retains possession of the ball overlapping run by Ladera. Cordy Baker, trying to show as a Sounders retained possession. No real options forward to Bed eventually clects the ball off his toe ten yards or so from the corner. Flager's near site. The Sounders right back heel to Ladero de fine some options now try and test Marstenkowski eventually gets bundled over by Paul

Marie. Reckless by the left midfield player. The Sounds now have a free kick twenty five yards from the Endlinder near right corner of the box. That's good from the Sound as it was a long sustained spell of possession in and around the Sound was a eighteen yard box jar parlor, lots of touches, good movement from a bad Nico Ladero was involved and it was him who eventually won the free kick. And listening. If you're not getting it done through

the run, the open play set Pieters become that much more important. Can you get something from here? You're sending Jackson Reagan if you're sending yam up. It was an air that on the weekend give the white Caps was very strong for the Sounders, and they may come down to that again tonight. Fladero and JP over the ball twenty five yards or so from the end line. It's gonna be Ladero whips it in Marson County, punches it away. Skibby Akapo is gonna collect the ball on the far side of the right,

knocks it down the line to Espinosa. Willing Runner takes a good solid first touch, forward plays the ball in quickly. JP tracks well, is only able to give it to Bobos twenty five yards can go the middle of the field to ska Hand Sounders eventually clear it as Jackson Wiggan slides to the deck clears it to this near side the left, twelve yards from the corner flag. As it rolls out of play for eight. San Jose throwing in the

hands of Paul Marie. There's Troco collects another ball from the sideline, walks up slowly. No real rush for San Jose as they lead here. One gold to Nils to get into the thirty eighth minute, It's to be a long throw by Shoko, throws it towards the corner of the six yard bucks well defended by Yamar steps in front of Beeson. The San Jose retained possession. Quick little ball by Skahan, the louts. Paul Marie goes out for a thrown, so the sounds just nearside the right ten yards from the corner

flag. Quick ports of Yama back to Cody Baker knocks it down the line. Good defending by Beeson gets up strong by the Stanford Graduate of twenty twenty twenty draft pick one assist on the year. The solid edition Jonathan Mensa came in the offseason. Certainly some options for Luci Gonzalez in the back line. If you mentioned sixteen fewer goals they've conceded this year as to last year.

At the same time, Christian headed by Jackson Reagan, stef Cleveland quiet so far other than really that PK almost got down to his right somehow eluded his right hand skipped in, and Steve Zaquani mentioned it was the pace of the ball, the direction and that bottom right corner of Steph Cleveland's goal. Steve, we're getting here. Towards the fortieth minute, that's San Jose collector a ski and quickly balls espinos the top of the box, skips by Jackson Reagan.

If Bob says square across the Grudzo strikes the ball high and wide to be a goal kick for Sounders. Remains Earthquakes one Sounders nail. See Zaquani again, it's a poor giveaway this occasion by Yama and that's exactly what sunders Earthquakes are waiting for. You normally see your team play leg this away from home, it's not so much at home, and just get a chance to see a replay here. I mean, Sanose build a Sounders out here.

They had the numbers there could have really really put pressure on the Sounder's back. Line Grins will taken that early shot from outside the box when he had a couple of flares open at least really helped the Sounds in that situation. But that's the blueprint. That's the game plan for Sanose. Sit back, defend track to force mistakes and then get out in transition when we can and

now they have the lead to protect. It's only gonna get more harder for the Sounds because you have to expand you have to chase the game and that will least basic defensively, so Bran schmids Andy staff have to figure out what the best approach for that is a team that's willing to give up possession waiting for the counter attack, that also has a lead, and you're playing from

behind. Bob middle of field plays it to Judson's able to shift the ball one touch this near side the left with Roco support by Pomerie, goes on top of the box to Bobo say little ball to Pat Marie left hand side of the box, overlapping murmer by Chroco. Cody Baker reads it well, gets bundled over. Referee gives no fail. It's gonna be a corner kick for San Jose. This near side the left and Steve, do you anticipate

positional changes? Do you think with the amount of possession, they'll throw two guys up front potentially depending on how the game flows out in the second half. Yeah, and I do think even before that, I do think just personnel. I think in this kind of game where yes, you've had a lot of the ball chances that I have been few and far tweeting being out a premium, you may need lex of ruid he has off the bench, Espinosa whips it in with his right foot, punch clear by Seplim didn't gather

it in his hands. Top of the ball to the box. Pomary challenged well by Knew, who he fluids threw himself in front of the ball somehow the honest effort to block the shot. His arms roll out, but the referee gives a yellow card to Knew, who gives a free kick for San Jose twenty two yards out from Steph Cleveland's goal. Steve, won't you make of that? I'm anticipating a replay here because I don't know how you can give a yellow card. Yes, it's a handboard Knew, he's turning.

His body has his arms up hind the air. But a yellow card, you'd think you'd have to be something a lot more deliberate than that, or something really mild intention from new who he's trying to block the ball hits his arm, give the free kick, can move on, very very surprised that referee's gone to his pocket there and give a new a yellow card. Now he's got to be on his best. Be hey, be off for the next five minutes on this half and in the entire forty five minutes or second

half. I mean, it's a harsh decision here see the replay. We talked about it as we're getting on the bus, about the potential vaar check and handball in Vancouver. It's about unnatural position. And we said it didn't seem so complicated when we played the game because the handball or it wasn't a handball. And now now it's unnatural position that it's ball to hand or hand

to ball. That's gone out the window. Yeah, and it feels like, how are you supposed to play like a penguin car and knew who did the right thing through his body out They brought the ball almost high as it should be, and it's a it's a freaking but a yellow card. I don't know what he's supposed to just momentum, right, you use your arms to do to run, to jump, and it's just anyhow, an argument for another day. Steve Yeah, San Jose lining up twenty two yards out

from Steph Cleveland's goal, just right of center. It's Espinoza with his right foot. It's going to kill this around the fast side of the wall. In Bobsie also lined up. It's gonna be a right foot of a Vestpinos or a left foot of a Boberca. All the Sounders back in the eighteen yard box defending this free kick. The bober say this sound with left foot strikes it high and wide. It was the left foot of a Bobes try to knock it to that far corner of Steph Cleveland's goal that it went high

and wide for a goal kick for the Sounders. Remains Earthquakes one, Sounders nil. So we get here in the forty fourth minute Sounders, we can try and see out these final a few minutes. We should see some extra mile stoppish time after that, pausing play due to Open Vargas's injury, which

thankfully wasn't as bad as it first looked. Who's able to get back on the field has continued playing alongside JP in the middle of the park as San Jose have it with Marsenkowski in their gold knocks it long middle of the field, chest it down by JP, eventually open collects it, plays it to listen. This side the right with Cody Baker travels forward with the ball,

ball goes into Ladero. Difficult ball. Ladera stepped over the ball, but San Jose came away with a ball into the feet of a Bobose just jumps over. JP tries to find the free kick. Nothing given and eventually it's given. Try to give the advantage to San Jose. There's an errant pass Knew who steps forward, but the referee pulls it back for a San Jose

free kick. Just inside their half of the field. Rocode is going to switch the ball and there's near side the left of the far side the right ball down the line to Espinoza. The goal score of the nineteenth minute PK that puts San Jose up one goal to nil. Here in San Jose, Californias. The Sounders look to try and call this one back if remember in Vancouver. We are down one goal to nil at halftime in Vancouver. So the ball goes in to drudge the top of the box. He had chanced

to shoot, he didn't. He looked to play the ball square and I think Steve, if that's a striker that's on goal, the defensive midfield player tries to pass it. Yeah, And it's the second time Great Soul specifically has bell the Sounders out, but extremely wide opening for a team that's so good defensively, and we're gonna have the Luxury've seen a reap here to see

exactly where the breakdown was. It's a late run by Great Soil there he's just not tracked between Rusnik and job Paul, or neither one tracks him. He's free to make a running behind and here he's got a trans goal for goal, or at least put the ball in behind the Sounders back line to give a ball bet something the chase there. In the end, there's a poor attempt at a cross and the Sounders lives to fight another day. The

sky hand Cleck said it's going to be four minutes. The extra mile stoppage time is to be four minutes into this first half as a bobbously wriggles free of JP roll to the right end side those whips in well, really good defending by Cody Baker. He got caught, Paul Marie came slashing in and there was a combination of all finished from Paul Marie and really good defending by

Cody Baker. The ball goes over the end line for a corner kick, and both Baker and I think it is Paul Marie's gonna stay on the deck. Eventually they gather themselves, pull themselves up as a clash of bodies. It's been a good five minute spell for San Jose here and in the end it's good defending by Cody Baker. He was caughtn arong side, recovers it

at the very last moment to get his block in. But San Jose ending in half with a corner here and all the momentum in the attacking sense, San Jose four men in the eighteen yard Bucks Judson top of the d late run by Troker on this back post not tracked right now by the Sounders, comes back to the top of the box, flicked over the top by Akapo. It's going to be a goal kick for the Sounders. It's gonna remain Earthquakes one Sounders nil and this score update is presented by Provident Swedish. The

Sounders getting going quickly gets shifted out to Leo Chwo. Got some time and space. Good step by Beeson. Ladera picks up the pieces side steps grunts in the middle of the fields. Ladera from this fromids right midfield spot has traveled all the way off to the left hand side, maintains that position looking for the ball, but JP Findszobed Vargas shift scout to Rosneck on this near side the right now. As Brian's mentioned before, and corner kicks. Sometimes

both Rusnak Kid Ladera do shift positions. They have the license to do that, and they've done it so well. There's Rosnecks shift to that right midfield spot that got him the goal against Houston just a couple of weeks ago. There's a Sounders now with Yeymar retaining some possession in the attacking half of the field. Good switched by Yamasi slashes the ball to the far side, eventually

collected by Ladera. Tries to flick it around the corner, asking for the corner kick nothing given by the referee, gold kick sant Jose remains San Jose one sound as nil And I think a half that began with so much promise, good possession, probing, probing, it's sort of fizzled out for the Sounders, just not enough action around the San Jose half. I think, you know, Nicoladero, Russknack jar Parlo for the amount of the ball they've

been allowed to have tonight, just having created enough. And I think Branch has really got to think, is it a game where we're a bit more direct because the possession play is playing into San Jose's hands. Do we need more runs in behind the old two on one side? You know you have read Baker White Fox as another option or Ruby Diez off the bench. You're gonna get crosses into the box. But so far and lots of possession with very little punch. It was Leo Chu and Rodriguez again on the fast side

of the right clash of bodies one more time. Leo Chu tries to click the ball away, eventually clips the ankles of Rodriguez and get here in the fourth minute of injured time of four minutes added to be a free kick for San Jose and Steve. It feels very much like the Vancouver game last week where the Sounder dominated possession. Right now, sixty possession and it's Leo Chu maybe a little bit of back chalk to the referee gets a cheap yellow.

We'll see if it's was on Lee or two. It wasn't for the foul. I think it's more than the conversation. We're looking at the screen right now and it looked like he's chirped away got a yellow card, and that's more about frustration about this first half gone for the Sounders. As JP flicks it over the top, pounces through it. There has been RESI relatively quiet

in this first half, no real service for it. Bear the ball goes down line to Skahound's gonna scamper towards the far right corner, trapped by Jackson Reagan. Let it go out of bound. It's gonna be a goal kick for the Sounders and that should just about do it in this first half. As the Sounders do get it going quickly with Steph Cleveland to Obert Vargas and

there's a referees whistle. There was a Christine Espinoza's goal a pk in the nineteenth minute that broke the game open to put this San Jose Earthquakes up one

goal to nil. Steve your final thoughts, I think for the Sounders, you know it's been okay, but now you're playing from behind, you know, a bit more urgency, and you don't have to go too far back into the past to look at blueprint ton around swat the weekend, went in behind, came out second half a bit more energy, a bit more precise, and a final fund and I'm able to ton to game round to pick

up the point. So I just mean for Brian Schmidts, maybe a couple of personnel choices to make, and aside from that, just got a play a lot quicker lot of possession. Play Foster, We'll take a short break, Jackson Phelps, We'll be back to break it all down at halftime. Here at PayPal Park at San Jose, California, it's the Earthquakes one, Sounders nil. Because San Jose with a one nothing lead. I thought it was a really good start for Seattle in the first you know, about twenty minutes of this game. A good possession. I mean they're leading in possession right

now by about sixty plus percent, so that didn't go away. But early in the first twenty minutes of this match, really good possession based play, nice bill ups. We saw Leo Chu getting involved on the left wing, some nice combination play with Albert Russknack with a bear. There was a good attack that happened in the seventh minute where a bear got a you know, a chance. He turned to his left, kind of whipped a ball towards Marston Kowski, but a diving save and that ended up as a shot on

goal, but a save there in the seventh minute. That was probably Seattle's best chance of the first forty five minutes. They kept attacking but weren't able to get it done. And then in the eighteenth minute, a penalty kick for San Jose. Jamar Gomez Andrade. He was a fair foul. He caught Jeremy Ebobac. You know, Bobac's in the box, cuts back, Jamar clips him. It's a fair unfortunate foul penalty to San Jose. Espinoza steps up hits his eleventh goal of the year, past stuff in Cleveland.

Cleveland. Actually a great dive on the play. He guessed right, but Espinoza had too much pace on the ball, too much power, and it went into the bottom left corner. That gave San Jose their goal there in the nineteenth minute on the penalty kick. A scary moment in the twenty fourth minute, Obed Vargas. He was kind of retreating running kind of there there

was a ballgling in the same direction. He and a San Jose player were both running in the same direction and Obed basically just got completely you know, ran over his back, Obed fell down, landed on his left arm, and as Michelle Ludkin reported there for us saw on the radio down on the sideline, it appeared to be a left hand or left wrist injury there for Obed Vargas. But I tell you what you know, for as much pain as he was in and Josh Tensei warming up, thought it was going to

be a substitution. But Obed Vargas is a one tough kid. He stayed in the match. He is good to go. We saw the Sounders get another good build up there in the thirty fifth minute, but San Jose was just well organized. And you know, despite the fact that the Sounders had built up a good few minutes of possession and you know, just passing, passing, passing in the final third right on the edge of the box. Nothing not even a really good shot towards the San Jose goal that didn't end

up with anything. And then Cody Baker a big effort in the forty fifth plus one minute to keep a ball out of the back of the net. Two yellow cards given, one to Leo Chew and one to knew Who. I don't really know how to exp play them, and I tweeted this out out. I don't know how to explain them other than maybe the ref just likes the color yellow. Neither of those made any sense to me. Welcome back to PayPal pup in San Jose, California, where the sound is at playing the San Jose Earthquakes on this picture perfect night, as the sun goes down, the pink sky fills the horizon and the sound is out early the subs were out warming up. It was specifically we saw a Tensio and Alex Roldan make a couple of quick change and as Sez their Quanti points out, we're making the sunders are

gonna make an early change. It's gonna be Alex Roldan getting ready to come on. At this halftime. It was likely for Cody Baker well like the Bellagio at halftime show, the sprinkles were on in full force and effect and yet the board goes up, Cody Baker's gonna make way for Alex Roldan to play on this right hand side, like for like switch and see will certainly see some Adde quality with Alex Roldan coming on. Yeah, and this is

nothing against Coldy Baker. I think he understands what this was about. Was given Alex a little bit of arrests, had a lot of minutes on him lately, lots of travel. But in this next forty five minutes, you need to change something in the attack and half and for the amount of possession of sound has had, how many good crosses came into the box? How many times did it really? Ask questions of the San Jose Sander backs and

Alex Roldan will help with that. And yet you have to also know that in transition he's a pretty good defender two who knows that to get up and down. And it's going to allow Nicoladero, who will start on the right hand side again, to tuck inside even more because Addics is so good at covering that width by himself on the right hand side. As a referee looks at his watch, it's a bar and Lodero over the ball and the sounds

get going. In the second half, Sounders decked out in their traditional rave green shirts, blue shorts and green socks, attacking the Gold TOI left the Gold facing the airport as we see planes flying in just a couple of hundred yards away. To be a good driver and a four iron away all through the first half. A really good setting here for this Heritage Cup matchup between San Jose and the Sounders. Espinos nineteenth minute Pek as he gets he tries

to knock it long and almost finds Zef Cleveland. It was a giveaway by the sound has quite cheaply found old people. Esperinosa had the wherewithal so get his head up trying to chip Cleveland and he's managed to scampers way back and the sounds are going to build again. Gama looking to switch it given away again by this sounds a couple of cheap giveaways. The San Jose pick it

up with Espinoza. San Jose come away with it knocked to boil down the line to Bose tries to wriggle free Jackson Reagan referee gives a free kick and with that we're gonna throw it to Michelle after talking with brinch Metzer. Thank you, Danny. Yes, just talked to head coach Brian sch Metzer at halftime and similar message from what we've actually heard from him before. He was really happy with the good start, but he said the team just really fell

apart and into bad habits. He said, kind of one of the bad habits, which really just shows to how good this team is, is that every player wants to help this team win so badly that when they've getten to moments where they're in a rut or they find themselves down, they do too much. So he really said his message to them was to play harder, but in their area, in their structure, and then we would see increased quality and speed on reflex. The ball in headed up in the air striking.

It's a goal and it's SCAA, but it's an assistant referee flag that's gonna saved the day for the Sounders and they don't even head saying try and get the game going again. It was a scramble inside the eighteen yard box. It bounced to sky hand the number sixteen for San Jose struck it in the goal, but the assistant referees flag went up quickly and the Sounders breathe a sigh of relief. Oh, this was close to him just in a replay here. I mean, if he's offside, it's a very very good

decision. But that was not, at least from the first replay, not as clear cut as it initially seen. Referee taking a good look. Listen VR and its earpiece. We'll see what happens here. We do not want to see the dreaded VR box signed hands on its hips as the referee. So we're looking at another replay here. Ball comes in just about and just a you know, we talked about soccer being the game of inches. That

certainly was just narrowly offside. Sounders now neither just settled down. Give it a bullaway cheaply a couple of different times, and ball goes into the feet of LADERA flick around the corner to Alice Roaldan with his first meaningful touch given away by GP. The cheap giveaway by the Sounders as they try to build that possession deep. The SKA hand was pressure on Yama. You go square

records from the pressure. It's new flects the ball soft on the back pass to Jackson Reagan another giveaway from the sounds picked up by Judson deflected off for US neck to Lucie Gonzalez. It shows always skill. First round draft pickback in my draft year two thousand and two, SMU player coached at Dallas for a number of years, had a real success down there before joining the US

men's national team program. Got hired on in the fall of twenty twenty two, stayed on with the US men's national team through the World Cup, and then joined the team in preseason. As we mentioned a couple of times, really good start to his career here at San Jose. The August Espinosa's near side the right try to whip it in with his right foot, comes off new and now it was always remonstrating to somebody not quite sure what he's being

frustrated out with Steve, can you make out well? The armis and the legs were going again. I thought he did a great job defendant that I have no idea what he's companion about. Maybe not happy that he's not getting the helpy ones of Espinosa, but he's done a pretty good job so far. But listen, Newho plays the game with a lot of passion. I'll with it that way. Espinoza's near side the right, It's gonna whip it in with his right foot. Outswinging corner kick headed clear by Jack's Reagan to

the top of the box. Paul Maricana deflects it off his arm, nothing given, flicks around the corner. Good quick pop shot by Acapo, goes wide of the goals. Gonna be a goal kick to the Sounders. Remains Earthquakes one, Sounders nil. Let's give you the lineup for the Sounders. As we mentioned, just one change coming out behalf Alex rolled on. It's gonna slide in for Cody Baker, so it's gonna be Steph Cleveland in the goal. A back four of rolled On, Yamar Reagan NW who Oberd Vargas.

They're going down for a few minutes with an injured right hand plays alongside JP attacking three of Ladero, Rosneck and Leo Chu and then it bare up front as the Sounders now building possession. Rodriguez comes away with it. Espinoza clicked around the corner to a bobs to ska hand middle of the park. Scan I'm picking up, so the ball flicked around. Gaymar tries to collect it. Turned eventually turns away from pressure as the Sounders build out the back

we're gonna throw to Michelle. Yeah, talked to coach Schwetzer or just after the half about that substitution Cody Baker out and Alex rolled On in, and

he said it was no reflection at all of how Cody was playing. Cody's been doing a fantastic job for the first firty five minutes plus, he said, simply, the way that San Jose has been playing is they haven't been pressing nearly as much on that side, and so they wanted to put someone in there, obviously who has a little bit more like offensive minded skills. Thanks to Michelle Will certainly seen Paul Marie playing on that more offensive left midfield

position, typical left back. So I think it was built out with the notion that Alex rolled On would play, and certainly the reputation Alex has got now he's a real threatned on the right hand side, and so brush Schwetz is hoping for in the second half, a Zacapo comes across challenges Chee Chee throws in quickly to JP middle of the field, then she gets the bullet opened. Vargus was a slash of the right foot by Skahn. The sound

has retained possession top of the fox left hand corner. Shoe tries to give a give and go with russneck pocket picked at san Jose, come away with it now it's nearside the right Espinose. It's got some world's space driving forward Jackson Wigan comes to challenging right corner of the box, runs along the top of the box. So when bargains goes to ground and a really good challenge by the young man, the san Jose top of the box whips it in

and eventually rolls over the end line for a goal kick. Sounders remains Earthquakes one, Sounders nil. Steve Zequani Well, different half, the same game plan. It's a giveaway at the top of the eighteen yardboks by Leo Cho and we've been ten fifteen seconds Samose Earthquakes heart almost attempting a shot at the Sounder's goal. And so you've got to be very smart for the Sounders when you give the board away, they've got to collapse a lot better defensively.

It's not happening so far, given san Jose too much space and transition to running attack and but for all bed Vargas is great interception there it would have been a very clear shot Gold of San Jose. So for the Sounders keep attacking by the defensive transition has not been where it should be to make yep referee cause a foul San Jose. Sounders gonna have a free kick thirty five yards from the end line, this near side the left. The Sounds attack

of the Gold to our left is gonna be Ladero. He's gonna swing this one in with his left foot, goes high to the back post, easily collected by Marsenkowski. Let's give you that San Jose lineup coming out at halftime. No real change is marsen Kowski a back four of Akapo, Rodriguez, Beeson and Troco Espinoza, Judson, Gretzo and Paul Marie and then ska hand In that attack him in field position sitting right behind Jeremy hip Bobo say as

their number nine. For Sounders start with their possession along the back line with Jackson Reagan swings it out to Ladero, playing almost like a right back spot as Alex Rdon plays much higher the San Jose back line. I was certainly he's gonna ben added threat on that right hand side, but given away chiefly again by new This tide flicked around the corner by Rusneck and say, we saw a couple of other players getting warmed up. We saw a tencio getting

warmed up thoroughly joined the halftime break. Tebetz came out a few minutes after that. Some changes happening by branch Vetza potential, Yeah, they will be. I think you know he wants to win this game, but you do have six points in the bank from the last two games. You have another game at home this weekend, so you want to air on the side of also making sure you have enough guys fresh to give you a chance to pick up three points at home in the weekend too. This Troko is able to

pick it up. A virus wins the ball well just knocks it out of bounds on the fast side. The sound is right, It's gonna be a throne for San Jose. Here in the fifty fifth minute, PayPal Park San Jose ninety three point three kjr FM earthquakes leading one gold to nil off the back of an Espinoza PK in the nineteenth minute, and the sounder dominates in possession, very much like they did in Vancouver sixty possession for the Sound as

the San Jose having the better of the chances. Master Kowski not really pressure in that goal quite yet. The Sound is looking to try and put chances from this possessions that Alex Roldan comes inside top of the box, flicks to the back post. It's Rosna who tries to collect it with his back of his heels. The ball went over his right shoulder. San Jose come away

with it. When Rodriguez rolls the ball down the line to Espinosa, pressure from both shoe and now the ball rolls towards Rodriguez plays quick ball to Espinoza to accap post slight clearer's picked up by a bear cushion header. It's asking for a handball, nothing given by the referee. A bear with his hands up, but it's gonna be San Jose in transition as Bobese on his hands and knees, just tying his lace as he gets more involved in the game,

certainly Esponosa. We mentioned eleven goals on the year, that Bobese seven goals on the year, making up well over sixty five of San Jose's Golds. This season, there's been a combination of good offensive player power, strong home record, one loss at home, and a better defensive player as well as Santos. The head possession higher pressed by the Sounders, ease, they're

given away and it's gonna as sound as you're gonna collect it. Flick her around the corner by Ladera to the fast side the right with Alex rol darn back to Ladero. Let's getting involved in this game. At a really good game against Vancouver. He tries to slip the ball in behind, easily cut out by Paul Marie. It's gonna drive down the line with Obt Vargas in pursuit, find some space to skayhead to a Bobus dropping off the back line,

try to get the ball into feet. He does it, turns thirty five yards from Gold middle of the field, flicks it around the corner, overlapping run by Troco. Paul Marie goes back to a Bobus a top of the box, no real pressure, We're going to street goes down. Look like a die from here and see if you tell me is that a is that a die? If yellow cardo? Is that just a stumble? Yeah? I think it's more of a stumb. Well gave it. What we see the benefit of the doubt. They're thinking, you know, contact was

coming, felt tiny bit of contact and just goes over. Don't think he was claiming anything there, and you the referee would have give it. So we're giving the benefit of the doubt. But I don't mind that from the Sounders that last passenger play allow one sound as a to also have it. But at this moment the game plan being the sound as you keep the ball,

they're playing transition. That's working at well for the earthquake. So for the Sounders there's time to where you got a gut quickly in transition too, and I think that's where we'll start to look at maybe branch metter looking towards the bench, because you do want to get fresh legs out there. I think there are points in there for the Sounders at least one, but it

just has to be a little bit tight in the final third. For all the possession, huge amounts possession the Sounds had in this game have not created enough chances around the goal, have hardly mentioned a bear, have not seen the man informally or to really be involved in the final third as well, branch Metter has got a be thinking of ways to change that and just up

the output offensively. As this game wears on sound As FC Socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC, the ball gets played to the fast side of the right, with Yeamark getting more involved in those offensive areas on the right hand side, as Alex Roldan in this half, Cody Baker in the first half play such a high starting position alongside Jackson Reagan diaglerball great ball almost finds Alex Roldan, who slashed in from that right side

position in behind Troco the left back. They just skipped through to Marson Cows who read that play well. But we've seen Jackson Reagan play those balls this season, the ability to shift the ball from his deep central defender spot, whether it's balls over the top or switching the point of at tech. The ball goes to Alex Roldan eventually throwing given by the assistant reefeel the fast side,

so it's gonna be Alex Holdarn's gonna come back fast side. The right comes into the middle with JP finds Rusnak, who's been somewhat quiet the game so far. In that number ten spot, there's New who finds Rusnak again, but Darre making a little run finds ober Vargas a middle of the fields able to wriggle free finds JP thirty five yards from Gold right of center to Yavar advanced in that right hand side. As the Sounder is now in good

possession. You mentioned sixty two percent possession in the game so far, but it's about putting that possession into goal scoring chances. Knew Who looking for options, wriggles free of Espinosa, the goal scorer goes down. New felt the pressure coming. He just slid over it got the free kick. Yeah, that's clever play from Knew who there what was looking for options, didn't really have them. Le Old two in the end try to make a run for

us. Nothing there. He had to dribble and actually does a very good job winning a free kick for the Sounders and all of the Sounders a puff. Stephan Cleveland playing the game in the sandose half. That tells you what sort of game we've seen here. The home team happy to sit back on

their lead. The defense absorbed the pressure and as we've been mentioning play out in transition and the Sounders begin to take more more risks with the spaces and positions they're taken, and I wonder for how wrong until we do see that switch between Rusnak and the Daro that we've seen in a past couple of games as well. The EPs worked out well as you mentioned, Rusnak made that shift against Houston, scored the goal coming off that right hand side spot and

collected that cross that cutback from Leo Chu. As the Sounders now retain possession again, lu Chickenzalet Santose head coaches, urging his team to push and press to mention that goal changes the face of the game as Santose able to absorb pressure and then break on the counter attack. As we get here in the

sixty first minute, Earthquakes want Sounders nil. The ball goes to the fast side of the right with Alex Roldan Advance plays the ball alongside the eaching yard box cut out well by Greenso and trunk Or collects it the far corner flag on the Santos a left hand site given away cheaply though by Paul Marie.

It's jp top of the box flicks around the corner. It bare felt to the ground, wasn't able to collect the JP again picks it up twenty five thirty yards from golf slides into the right hand site, comes back to Ladera. Sounders now lots of possession of the attacking third of the field, but

it's about delivery, about quality in the final third. JP tray to go around greenso it's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounder's the farst side of the right squeak JP and Ladero on this, but it's gonna be Ladero with his left foots with inswinging corner kick. Five six Sounders players inside the eaching yard box. Comes in top of the six yard box. It's headed by New who just bounces and bubbles into the hands of Marson Kowski San Jose Bill

on this near side. They're right with Espinoza as he slows the game down, goes to the middle of the park and as San Jose Bill through the middle, we're gonna throw it down to Michelle. Thank you, Danny. I actually have a question for you and Steve. I've noticed a lot of slippage. It seems like slipping and sliding a lot of players falling down tonight.

Earlier in the match, Steve mentioned the pitch conditions and how he was really happy with what he saw during the pre match when he went down and checked him out. We saw the sprinklers go on before the match started. We saw him again at halftime. Are you guys noticing that as well, that there's a lot more slipping than usual? And do you think that has anything to do with the watering or the conditions that the fields in. We'll get to that a minute. The ball goes down to the end line,

it's gonna be cut out by Yama. But Steve, you make a comment, then I'll make a comment. Yeah, my mind wear straits were sprink to us. I mean that was a lot of what I mean. Danny said, you know, it looks at the belajo and kind of looked at a little bit, So that would be all it is. You know. I think at this point in the footwear that plays wearing, everyone has the

current footwear you kind of know and what you need to be wearing. So I would think that the heavy amount of watering the pitch is probably directly tied to there. I would agree. I think it's all down to the players to get in the right footwear on. Remember when I came over and about you, Steve on my We'll get to that a second. The Santas are quickly with ski Had clicks the ball to the back post. Rodriguez knocks it down, cleared by Jackson, Reagan collected by Paul Marie. That's nearside.

The right knocks down the line to Acapo, the right back for San Jose coming in possession of the board, goes the Judson knocks it around the corner well to Paul Marie towards the end line, knocks it low and Sean and JP is able to slide cut it out. It's gonna be a San Jose corner kick. But I would let's say this, when I came over to the States of nineteen ninety eight, I don't think I had to walk cleats

in a game. I wasn't allowed to. It was all studs, aluminum studs, aluminium studs, and my assistant, my assistant coach for North Carolina, gave me a list of stuff to bring had cleats on. There was no Internet. I didn't even know what cleats were. I honestly got on the plane. I had no idea what fleets were would never use that wood.

Yeah, that's the only thing was about deciphering what was it on the list of it was boots at the top of boots and Espinosa on the right hand side is gonna be out so driven across to the top of the box striking a wonderfuck, wonderfust strike by San Jose and Michael track O Paul Marie

with his hands on his head coat quite believe what he saw. It was a driven corner kick by Espinosa to the far top corner of the eighteen yard box, and it was a picture perfect strike by the San Jose left back trocast into Steph Cleveland's bottom left corner and it puts San Jose up two goals to nill over the Sounders. I mean, we've seen some pretty good goals in emins recently. That's gonna be up there with any of them. That is a contender foot goal of the season. You might get one of those

in your career. It's such a pure strike technique on that the left foot to put that into the corner, Stepha Cleveland has absolutely no chance And for the sound of this, a massive hold and a long way back now Bran Schmitzer. You can see he was getting himself ready to make a triple change. I think they're still gonna go ahead with it with the Sounders, but the whole to come back now out of is so much deep up due to

that absolutely world class strike we just saw. Well, as see mentioned activity on the bench, JP's gonna make way comes off the field for Josh a tensil like for like Swap rawl Ruy Diaz comes on the field in a situation I'm sure he would for enough to be in as the Sounders go down two goals to nil, he's gonna come on for it there again as a light for like Swap and Lodero in that right midfield position, it's gonna come off the field. It's gonna be Dylan Tevers again, like for like swat So,

Rosneck's gonna play the number ten, retain that number ten. What looks like the rest of the game, the Savers the Sounders get settled back in here. Sometimes you just have to put your hands up and just give a round the plause. That was a world class strike. I mean it was world class, and I mean I think the first player I saw do that was the great poorls goals when you know from a David Beck purp, Yeah, exactly, And that's the level of talent it takes the pool stuffing that

that off. So make no mistake of what we've seen tonight. I mean that is a goal of the season contender. The technique, the level of difficulty to pull that off, it's next level. And for San Jose, it's a game that's worthy of winning. Any game puts them two nie up for the sound. Disappointment is just the amount of the boarder team had.

You know, it's a team that's built on possession, wanted to keep the board, take the board to the opponents, and it just hasn't been good enough from the final third and we've seen too many giveaways in a second half could right to San Jose's hands and his final twenty twenty five minutes could be

a long one. Espinosa, a top of the vox has a roll it across the Oberse it LODs of Oberse, Tevez to pick the ball up, got his pocket picked the San Jose come again with a cappo on the right hand side, right corner of the box comes in side skips by Obed Vargas deal true tries to close the ball down, but Espinosa collects it's near side the right whips it in towards the fire post. Eventually finds San Jose and again it's drocoat strike with his left foot again cleaned but blocked. San Jose

able to collect the clearance by the sound has headed out by Decon. It rolls out in the fast side the right for sounders throwing. They get it in quickly with Alex rolled on Sir Tensio, who's made the switch for JP just a moment ago. Tensia playing alongside Gee Obed Vargas in the middle of the field. As Oben picks it up middle of the field, they'll drop

cheap giveaway tries to knock it to a Tensio. Bryce Schwetzer on his features shoulders drop when those kind of giveaways as San Jose come again, potentially trying to encourage anew who the press and who just walks up. It's not the attitude you one for the sounders of the big two goals to nail down you need to have a bit but a fight, see to try and get back in the scare. I'm not liking what I'm seeing from the body language from

the Sounders. I mean, it's two nailed. It's still twenty five minutes to go, plus whatever time will be added on. The Sounders have pulled off bigger miracles than that in the team's history, so you want to see a bit more fight. I left to see Ruby Diaz there. He led the press on that occasion. That was good. You cannot make this game easy for San Jose here, because then they'll get a further or fourth.

You know, the next goal in this game could really change the direction of what we're seeing if in the sound issue, I have to stay engaged and those subs made by the Sounders are as much about fresh leggs as it is about rooking. Towards the weekend as well well. In the game against Vancouver, Quoity Baker got a yellow card, had a couple of slashes of the

Vancouver players got subbed out as she was Houston. I think that was change was made because Houston with Michel got two quick yellow cards, got a red. Yeah, and I'm looking at Leo Chew he got away with one there. He got a new yellow card in the first half for talking back to the referee and he looks fired up, he looks frustrated. We'll see if

Brian makes us change here. We don't want to have Leo Chu get another silly yellow card and get suspended for the final MLS game for a month on Saturday because Rosnack cleck Abore thirty five yards from goal, pressure from Judson goes to new who Leo chew By the yards in from this left nearside touchline goes inside to a tensio A tensio ball at his feet, rig goes free to

Ruidi as at its first touch rolls it across to Jackson Reagan. He shifts a point of attack from center to the far side the right, eventually finds Alex roll Don quick little play to Tevez tries to find a yard of space to get the ball in, has to go back to Yamar ball into the box with Alex rol Dan goes to the deck cleared up by open Vargas's ever to try to whit the ball in with his right foot the fast side the right blocks out by Paul Marie. Is gonna be a thrown for the Sounders.

As we mentioned Heritage Cup game here, San Jose got a win back in late May one goal to nil. As we're here in the seventy first minute, PayPal Park, San Jose, California, ninety three point three KGr FM San Jose leading two goals to nil against the Sounders here as Sounders have possession and the attacking half of the field just can't break through. It can't find that space in the attacking third to test massing Kelski in the goal, who's stepping in for Danny ll a red card in their last game against LAFC the Steve San Jose.

Different proposition this year, a lott stronger, a bit more steel about them. Yeah. I think the biggest stat than it is just the amount of goal. I think it's sixteen goals less they've considered in at this stage last season. That's a massive swing and that's credit to the new coach staff you've come in. They've built the right way from the ground up, got the foundations right, and the sound is having a hard time breaking them down.

A lot of the board at times as higher seventy two, seventy three percent possession and haven't really tested a goalkeeper and you have to really want to prof from that early chance from a bear. It's been relatively comfortable for the Earthquakes. They've they they've defended well, they've styed in the shape. They've agreed that tonight they don't want a possession. They want to play in transition.

The couple of chance they've had in transition, they've made them count and it's on the Sounders to get the next goal and give us an interesting end into the game. Otherwise what was slowly just heading towards a confirmed San Jose victory. Yeah, we're starting to see Paul Marie on the left hand side play a little deeper, almost like a five man back line right now as Yearmark comes up, flicks of the back post and easily collected by Marston Cassi.

Quality is not good enough for the Sounders right now and the attacking half of the field. This copyrighted audiocasts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or read broadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer.

Seventy third minute here at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. San Jose leading two goals to nil over the Sounders and Espinosa pk in the nineteenth minute and a wonderful left footage strike twenty five yards hours a driven corner kick by Espinoza on the right hand side, and he'd found Roke on the far left corner of the box and he just drove it perfectly past Steph Cleveland. Didn't give the sound As goalkeeper a chance, and Jackson Reagan give us the ball

away. Acappo picks it up easily. Espinosa down the line to the right back for San Jose collects it comes inside, tries to find the ball square to I Bobise, well read by a Tensio, tries to go towards this corner flax slid in by a Cappo, and it's gonna be a San Jose throwing two yards from the corner of fact, it's near side the right and Steve That kind of says it all about the game. It just is that that goal isn't as great as it was. You can't allow a moment of

that to just completely star called the energy out, a momentum out. The Sounders have not had a good response. The body language, the energy is not there, almost as if it's listening. It's an away game. We're down too, Nail. We're not coming back and just accepting the defeat. And I don't think you want to be a team that plays that one. We don't see that from the Sounder. So yes, you know these three game weeks at after you were in Canada on the weekend, that short turn

around to San Jose. But I had the feeling the Sounds could find one goal, you could make this interesting. Just having seen that drive and in that portion. I think that's what we'll concern Brian Schmitzer. Maybe the team, the guys on the pitch already also looking aheads to Saturday, and you cannot do that. You gotta play what's in front of you. And I think at two Nail, as he said, this team and this club has pulled off bigger miracles and this game is not over. But the Sounders do

have to rap the energy, especially when they get into these areas. In the final third, ball on the fast side, they're right with Alex Roldan whips it in well, but again easily collective by marking Kiowski and see when Alex Roldana has the ball, try to whip the ball in and the only

player inside the agr foxes Rale. Yeah that's a problem. Yeah, you got to see because then where's nio Chio on the other side, where's Rosnack, And then where's Vargas And the tendency or sort of edging up towards the eighteen yard box there for the counterpress or anything that comes out towards the edge of the box, just not seeing them, the energy from the Sounders, and this game started off really well, lots of chances, lots of possession,

and just sort of gone towards Yes, the possession is still there, but the drive, the real movement in the final third, the intricate passing just hasn't been there consistently enough to night. Bore goes to Raoul, given away again by the Sounders. It was a poor touch by Raoul. There's the ball finds yourself to the feet of a Boba sat Jackson. Reagan goes

through a bobes. It's gonna be a free kick for san Jose. And these are the moments that San Jose will put their foot in the ball, take their time, and just let those sick those seconds tick off the clock, because we get here in the seventy sixth minute, san Jose leading the Sounders here in PayPal Park. Two goals to Nils Troko, the goal score of that wonderful left footed goal. Tries to play the ball into ski hand cut out well by Yama, another interception by Yamars. It leads that category

in MLS, but it's san Jose retained possession of the ball. Espinoza receives it's near side, the right comes inside, no real pressure from the Sounders five yard pressure. It's not going to win the ball. Eventually, it's that man Yemar again who does win. It finds the ball into ruy Diaz support by TeVeS. He's got some time and space, but no real support for Tevers. As Rodriguez goes down. It's made that play many times. Tonight goes down to deck. Time to pass, well, it's out the

tackle. Well, it comes away there, but the Sounders win back possession. Malice rolled on on poor Maria's Alex Roldar middle of the field, over the argus to his left, Tevis to his right, goes to Tevers, back to Atensio and Yemar. Sounders needs some quality in the final third now trying to test the goalkeeper receives that Quanty said, just one goal changes the face of this game. Who saw the way that Vancouver's game with that sixtieth

minute Gold turned that game on its head? Little handball from grod So eventually referee gives it free kick for the Sounders twenty five yards from Gold right of center. Yeah, and the way Raoul Rudiaz marches over to this ball as it is a handball, no compleation, San Jose. It makes me think Raoul, who has had very little touches no looks on Gold, fancies this one. Russ knacks also, they're very capable, but have a hard time

seeing this be anyone other than Ruby Diaz. And it's a distant enough that you can get this up and over. If you hit this well, there's enough time to get it over the wall and steal down and under the crossbar. And Rudiaz listened, could never put anything past this player. He's capable of it. You get a feeling a gold for the Sounders, completely changing

the momentum. Ruidis twenty five yards from Gold, try to hit it straight into the wall, finds actual dance just to clip it back towards Ruy Diaz, so he over say inside his eighteen yard bucks. It's San Jose in transition. Now Rodriguez, a center back, striving forward support by Espinoza, try to find his fellow teammate, made an overlapping run to his left, couldn't find him. Now center back is going to make the long trek all the way back to his back line. But it's great, So who's going

to fill in for him? The Santos Earthquakes retaining that five man back line now defending his leader's chew towards the tullbox clears and it just wide of the goal. It was akin to that La Galaxy goal away. Came off his left hand side and with his right foot he trying to find that far corner who was just a yard or two wide of marking Kusi's goal. But it remains Earthquakes two Sounders. Now, yeah, and that's excellent from Leo Chew. That's something he can do. That no one else on the sound of

the team. Cando picked the board up off the dribble, driving the back line and caused chaos. We've not seen enough of it tonight. I don't mind it from Leo Chwo. We're seen a reap of it here, drives him between two defenders with his right foot. Didn't get enough bend to bring the board back inside the post. But that kind of play there, receiving a board, facing the defenders, driving at them, asking them questions.

He's been too few and far between tonight, you know. Talking to Chris Leach, my old UNC teammate, who was the GM here at Santos. The player here has been a head coach, here has been an interim head coach here now is the GM position. Both San Jose and the Sounders sit six points each behind their totals for twenty twenty two. Sounders on thirty five points on the season so far, forty one points last year in total. San Jose on twenty nine points with a thirty five point total from last year.

So both teams have the opportunity going to Lee's Cup to match their tally from twenty twenty two. Right now, it looks like San Jose may get three points closer to that number as they retain possession the far side the left with the goal score at Treco Boucher. Judson for the good outing so far as the central midfield player Jackson mules you mentioned, but calling to US national team camp who we must say just lost on PK shootout tonight against Panama extremely

disappointing the PEQ shootout. Jordan Morris did score, but unfortunately sudden death.

He was Christian rolled down who did miss his PK sport goes into the feet of bobs shifts into the fast side of the left poor Marie and support no real urgency to go forward, so he goes back to Skaham where a goal disallowed in the second half the trouk or left back inside from his left back spot to the feet of a Bobsay sounds with attenders give it away cheaply again and Steve that is something the sound as a bright sh metster do not want

to see. They want to be sharp. Were the eighty first minute here and I find a way to get a goal. Yeah. I think you have to maintain your habits, whether the game's going well not going well. The things you do well. You always try and do them at a high level, and it just the levels dropped in the second half. I think we've seen a lot of giveaways yamar Raegan knew Who as well, guys in the back line who were finding those passes between the lines, and the first

half Bassel vanished, just disappeared. And since the San Jose gold it's just been I mean, it's been comfortable. There's no tempole, there's no real energy, nor crosses into the box, nor direct wars behind asking question of sundos there. And so for the Sounds has been a sort of you know, at one nail, yes, we had hope. There are three songs coming on the second gold goals in the glass. So the world class finished and has pretty much been our rap since then. Sounds making their final change

the night, their fifth change. You mentioned three in a row, Lex Roldann at half time for Cody Baker, now it's read Baker Whiting is going to shift on that left back spot for Knew who like for like swappers Bugosta's nearside, the right with Acapo who wriggles free of Leo chu To Espinoza finds his right back again inside the box blocked out by the Sounders, but it's Espinosa right corner of the box, drives it towards the bat post and it

just eludes the flashing runner pull Marie on the back post. It clattered into the post. Let's asking for the game to stop. The Sounders get it going. They have no need to stop the game per per the rules, they need to knock it out of bounds and port Marie jumps up, makes his way back as the Sounders build possession again in the attack in half of the field to rue Diez back to goal, finds attention and again just don't connect the sound as it was given away. There's a heavy pass bout to

Attensi. Attensio couldn't control and San Jose come away that who in turn give it away to Alex Roldan to the feet of Ruy Diaz thirty five yards from gold center of the field, turns, spins plays into Leo two inside of his left midfield spot. He tries to find Tevers. It was soft giveaway, but the Sounders again come away with it. So gamer giveaways over this last couple of minutes. So when Vargus comes this nearside the left for Red

Baker Whiting. His first touch with his right foot comes inside and swings it in and conventional clearance by Rodriguezz. He scoops off his thive and she helped out by a central midfield player. But the Sounders will come again. As we get here in the eighty third minute, its Quakes two, the Sounders nil, ninety three point three KGr FM PayPal Park in San Jose, California. Can Can the Sounds find a little bit of magic in this final seven

minutes plus injury time. You've got the game winner in injury time with Yamar just a couple of days ago in Vancouver. It's just gonna take one goal. As Red Baker Whiting's clattered into there's Espinoza and running with Red Baker Whiting more of a collision of bodies. It's like San Jose's looking to pull on some medical stuff. I know Reid has say it's a bit of an issue there. Medical stuff. Just having a conversation with the fourth official would be

a contact lens issue. Referee is gonna drop the ball three. Baker Whiting kind of works his way back towards the bench, comes off the field, and I think it is probably yeah, and there's there's some blood there as well. Read I think he took an in adverse and hit from Espinoza an elbow to the face, nothing intentional, but yeah, Reese bleeding there from the right eye, so needs the attention of the medical staff down there for

the sounders. But nothing. I'll keep him off the pitch too long, So catch your Sounders back at home against FC Dallas on Saturday, July fifteenth at seven thirty pm. Watch the match in Spanish and English for free on the Apple TV app and listen right here on ninety three point three KGr FM with a provident Swedish pre match radio show starting at seven pm. Saturday's match is presented by Tequila heada daughter an extraordinary ultra previous hundred percent A gave Tequila

extraordinary awaits. Please drink responsibly as we get here in the eighty fifth minute, Sounders trailing to San Jose here in PayPal Park. Two goals to nil and Espinoza pekin and nineteenth minute and a second half strike by Troco in the sixty fifth minute, and Steve Steph Cleveland played well against Vancoum made a wonderful safe one off Burholter, one down from Brian White. No chance it's in I either two goals in each game. But really he's played well. He's

played really well, and you know the penalty was well hit. And then you mentioned the second goal to just a world cross goal. I don't think any goalkeeper saved so and then outside of that, he's not had much to do and everything has been asked to do. He's done well by just one of those situations where the two moments that counted most sound as it because I've made them count and a sound is on the other side, have not been able to capitalize on the large amounts of possession. Well, it's a long

wait here. Looks like the referee is gonna wander over to Vaar. We'll see if he's gonna take a look and see that we'll look like an inadvertent collision. The referee is gonna give something different than just a drop ball and a free kick, because it takes a look at the monitor. You got

his earpiece in. He's obviously got some information in and I think I think this is going back to the handboard that Ruy Diaz claimed there was a cross from Red Baker Whiting that was dealt with very awkwardly by the San Jose Earthquakes back line was Rodriguez right kind of went down and Raoul was claiming he was the only one claiming him, and I think that's what they've gone back to him. We'll see, we'll be class half full approach here here. We're

looking at the replay here. It's definitely something that he's looking at in terms of that clearest and potential came off the hand. It goes back to that whole Oh yes, that's a handboard. Unnatural position again, you're looking at your wonders. It's poor control from the center back comes off his left arm, and it's his arm. But yeah, you've seen those given when the arms out that way, you've seen those given. Big chord coming up again,

the criterias has to be enough to overturn him. Is it a clear and obvious error? Not just is it a handboard, but at this point is it a clear and obvious error? And the question is as we see it and nothing give him other refree took a good long look at it again gets underway and San Jose with Tommy Thompson has come on the field as a sub drives forward, bolts the right hand side to Espinoza, challenged by Attensield,

clips off Attensio's foot. Good defending by the Senti midfield player. But it's gonna be a San Jose throwing this near side the right five yards from the corner flight. Let's see when they go to the monitor. It seems recently they give it and they change it. This time he didn't. He didn't very surprised. Yeah, but he went over there and that's all you can ask. We'll have an extra look. Make sure you get the decision right and listen. If you've looked and you decided that, then not too

many companions come to be ahead. Sound has come away with it with Ruy Diaz Jrudson who knocks it down the line, went over the touch line for a thrown for the Sounders. Let's make mention Tommy Thompson came on the field. That's this two hundred appearance for San Jose. So quietly he's added two hundred games to his career. Here, real good servant for the club.

He was at Indiana University. Signed in twenty fourteen for San Jose. As Resina picks the ball at middle of the field, rolls it across to open Vargas to Jackson, Reagan, back to Attenio. Sounders trying to find some opening now try and find themselves back in this game. As we get here

in the eighty ninth minute, trailing two goals to nil. Here in San Jose drives forward his attention inside the box left side, comes back to Read Baker Whites and flicks it around strike by Acturol darm blocked well sixteen yards out by actual Dars. It flicks in by Tennis top of the box. Cleared, the sound has retained possession. Read Baker Whiting. Middle of the field goes back to Jackson Reagan a short to game up, back to Reagan.

Sounds trying to find that one opportunity. Can they get a goal. Let's get a sells back in this game and make the final two minutes plus whatever injury time the referee is going to give that interesting as TeVeS gets the ball the fast side of the right, eighteen yards from the endline, comes inside, comes back to Yaima Sunita test Marsenkowski in the San Jose goal. For all the possession of Sounds had, it's about chancetone goal that they've lacked today.

The combination TeVeS inside the box with Alex Roldan, goes back to Alex. Roldan cuts to his left foot, no real pressure is able to find it back to his right foot, clips it towards the back post cleared by Judson. Esponosa tries to get away but obit. Vargas wins it off. Espinoza's toe read Baker White's near side the left Sounders left well, it goes down the line, Bay over n Vargus a little heavy on the pass. Lee or two gets frustrated, Boor goes over the end line remains Earthquakes two

Sounders nail Sea Zaquani. That's the story of the game, the last two minutes of Sounders having the ball in and around the Earthquakes eighteen yards box, loss of passes, opportunities to cross when it does come in, the quantity has not been there. The pass is either overhead or the run is too late. Just haven't been on the same page in the final third, and that's been the difference in his heart and the sound as order possession in the

world have not been able to make account Yep A couple of changes. Paul Marie's gonna go off. Benjamin Kikinovitch comes on and the extra mile stoppa time is five minutes, so Sounders do have five minutes to find these two goals to tie it up. Certainly have their capacity if they can sharpen up in that attacking half of the field. To mentioned, San Jose strong home record this year six one and four at home, away not so much one six

and four. That soul win away from home was unfortunately against the Sounders back when late May. The goal by a bobs In forty eight minute got them that win against the run of play. I very much like today. The Sounders may not have peppered the goal of Marson Cowski, but have dominated possession. There's been San Jose being ruthless in the offensive third of the field.

The sound has come again with Jackson Reagan swings it out with this near side the left read Baker Whiting to Leo Chow comes inside trying to find something, trying to make something happen out of nothing. Rude Dash puts a toe out there. Eventually the ball rolls to the Sounders and Attensio turns quickly. Pressure from a Bobes eleven men behind the ball for San Jose. As Rosne turns away from pressures slipped by Akapo sunders have some time and space on this near

side the left. Then she swings it in with read Baker whiting as hopeful in some ways cleared easily by San Jose Rude Diaz thirty five yards from golf trying to find the ball makes something happen. Remember Broody has now injured for a good number of weeks. Kid back against Charlotte got two wonderful goals as the ball goes towards the end line and Tevis can't quite get their roles over the end line for a goal kick for San Jose remains San Jose two Sounders

nil. And this score update is presented by Prominent Swedish. What the sound is now? Listen? This game is probably over three minutes to goal, not gonna find the two goals to tie the game. And for branch Meis, I think there's different ways to lose. You can lose if you're trying to do the right things, and you know the under date the opponent was

just better than you were. That's not been the case here today. I think the Sounders their own worst enemies at times the architects of their own down four, sloppy passing, no urgency in the final third, and that's what's gonna be thought of a lot on the flat back home. It's just we could have been better. We can accept losing, but the manner in which we lost sort of takes away some of the air we picked up in the

past two weeks. Or Judson comes off the field and makes way for Cameron Silly who makes his first MLS, his first MLS minutes for San Jose and certain the opportunity for young players to get some minutes when there's like Kid Cool, Jackson, Yeller away, Montero injured played in Seattle and number seven for San Jose, and again it flicks off the heel of Leo Chu. Leo Chi would be wise just to walk away. Certainly a level of frustrations through

his game tonight. It wasn't able to find any real space down that left hand side in behind that's to come inside often trying to find and make things happen. As you mentioned, Sounders back at it on Saturday for the last game in regular MLS play until late August, Link's Cup comes into play. The ball goes down land towards Ruy Diaz. Marsenkowski again reached. The game well comes out. Then a solid display for Marsenkowski stepping in for the suspended

Dannielle. It's a ball with a big goalkeeper in his hands as he emotions his back four up, trying to see out these final few minutes. We get here in the ninety fourth minute, means the Earthquakes two sounders nil sounds able to get back home and try and get that final win. As the ball gets flipped around, Jackson Reagan covers his teammate Yearmars. It flips off Yearmar's head with Buddha who trying to get in behind, and then she cleared

by Jackson Reagan. But it's gonna be a san Jose throwing the fast side of the left. Let's see how these final seconds as you mentioned game on Saturday, FC Dallas coming into looming field, the ball comes in a San Jose top of the box. Tommy Thompson progresso strikes it just wide of the post. He was step cleanland a full stretch. It's good stripe by the San Jose defensive midfield play with his right foot. It scoots just whyde of

Cleveland's right hand post. Yeah, and again it would have been the ice on the cake for San Jose. Making it three nail probably would have been a bit harsh and flattered them a little bit because I don't think it's been a big golf between these two teams, just been in the moments when they counted San Jose making the penalty kick, counting them getting a world class finish as well, and for the sound was just not enough in the attack at

half the day. Well, the final whistle goes. It was a peak by Espinos in the nineteenth minute they got San Jose going, and then a wonderful stripe from the San Jose left at Troco in the sixty fifth minute wins the game for San Jose. See your final thoughts. Disappointing, lots of momentum picked up in the last two weeks, all the things that were done right to bring the sound as those six points sort of went away today.

The final third attacking play was not good enough. I think the fight back off the way down two nil, there was a sense of acceptance of the result that one piece Bran Schmitza, but football always gives you another chance and Saturday's a quick time around, a chance to bounce back, and if you're

looking at three wins out of four, you'll take it well. Thanks to Chili Dunning for keeping it all together here in the booth, Kevin kay Is always for his great research and information, to Michelle Ludkep for all our great work on the sidelines, and of course to Sounders legend Steve Zaquani. The Sounders FC postmatch show starts now, Well, that just wasn't a good time. I think we're gonna say that already.

H that was not a good time for your Seattle Sounders too. Nothing lost as San Jose is the final Jackson Fellt here for the postmatch show. In a moment, we'll bring in Michelle Ludget and Steve Zakiwani from PayPal Parking San Jose. But for the Sounders, a goal given up a penalty in the first half, Espinoza slotting in past Cleveland and then the second half Traveco.

What a sensational strike off of a corner. Kase hit it with his left foot into the right side of the goal, ball that no goalkeeper in MLS would save, goes past Cleveland. And those are the two goals for San Jose in what was a very disappointing night of soccer for your Seattle Sounders. Let's bring in Michelle and Steve down in San Jose. Great call to both of you. Fantastic broadcasts. That's as much as I can say.

Michelle, get your get your thoughts first. Then you talked to Schmenzer there at halftime and what he was looking for and just overall thoughts from from what you saw from the ninety minutes from the Sounders tonight. Yeah, thanks Jackson. You know, the first half, I think it was beautiful to start and I think Steve would agree to me. The first you know, fifteen twenty minutes of play. The Sounders had possession, they were moving the ball,

they were creating opportunities. Things were looking really good. The second half of the first half is when you kind of saw the Sounders doing too much. And that's what Brian Schmeszer alluded to me at halftime. That and that's kind of to the detriment sometimes of the team that they want to win so badly that they go away from what they're supposed to be doing in an overplay, try to overcompensate. I think that kind of led into the second half.

But then as soon as that second goal hit, it was like, Okay, we're done, we're thinking about Saturday, we're getting back on the plane. And it was just there was not and this wasn't the whole team that was you know, on the pitch, but I would say the majority you could just see it in their body language. Steve, they just were they were done. They checked out. Yeah, I agree with that.

I think there was an acceptance of the result going to you know down it sort of felt like, you know, we're gonna get us back on Saturday at the weekend. We'd love to see a bit more fight, a bit more urgency. I think one goal could have really put pressure on the sinose A team and really given a sound As a chance to at least get a point. So that will be disappointing, but I think for a minute one to minute nineteen, Yes, the first fifteen twenty was quite promising, but

then it never really materialized. It never went on from there. There wasn't enough attacking prowess, attacking innovation of the final third was very stagnant, very though an Indian, a very comfortable et for Sinos. That's absolutely right. That's the voice of Steve Zakalanie. You all should hurt from Michelle Ludka,

they're down there at PayPal Stadium in San Jose. Jackson felts back here in the KGr studios on Elliott Avenue for ninety three point three KJR FM, and I want to follow up Steven on what you just said right there and in Michelle get your two cents on that as well, and the issue from me.

And we saw this back in Vancouver in May, I believe, where the Sounders lost a similar game to nothing where Vancouver, just like San Jose tonight, got the second goal and that body language and I saw it too, watching on my screen here, just completely slummed and it didn't look like the energy was in it, you know, it didn't look like there was any tempo moving the ball up the field on the offensive end. And that is a massive concern though. When this team gets down to nothing, I

mean, yeah, down a goal like last week in Vancouver. Great, you can fight back towards it, but listen to there's a reason that the cliche goes to nothing is the most dangerous leading soccer because teams consistently come back from two goal deficits. It happens a lot, and it frustrates me, Michelle that the body language isn't there when this team goes down to nothing.

We saw it again tonight. Yeah, And I don't know what the change is here, and I'm interested to hear what Steve has to say because I was, as you were kind of setting that up there for us, Jackson, I was thinking back on Sounders years past, and I was trying to recall, like, is this something new, is this something we've seen before, you know, And I, honestly I don't know. I don't know if this is something that you know, we have just really noticed a couple

of instances that have stood out to us this season. I was so encouraged, I have to say, being down on the sideline after the first p K, the first goal that was given up, the Sounders sideline erupted with like positivity and like let's go, clapping gesturing at their teammates, and it was like, come on, guys, come on. And I do feel like the Sounders tried to, but that was kind of the last time we saw it, and you do. You have to give San Jose credit.

They had two beautiful goals. They took advantage of their opportunities, and I really have to credit I think the fans here tonight. Also, they did do a really good job of getting behind their team and making an intimidating place to play, which I don't know if I would necessarily normally say that about coming to San Jose. Yeah, and I think Jackson's acting. Michel's pointing that thing. The lack of fight can be for a couple of reasons.

I think the quantity of the goal is very deflating. When the team does that, it's going to be that night. It's very hard to see your way back from there. But there was so much time left on the clock. I think Brian Schmitze was lining up three subs to come in when it was still one nail, so he wanted to go for it. Then the second goal goes in. You still make your free subs when you're doing it from a big up position of weakness, and I think just overall the fight

had left the group. Why, I don't know, got really talked to the players, talk to the team, being the croom to load the reasons for that. But like I said, in football, you're always given another chance. It's a very short ton around because Saturdays and now also three points and this is one that you have to forget as soon as you get on that plane home. And so if this game didn't happened, there's nothing to

really learn from tonight. You got a look to the weekend, and if you can win at the weekend, the puzz spin is it's three wins after lost four, and that's what you've got eight four. That's absolutely right. I mean you just yeah, I think this for for fans and for the team, this is a completely forgetable game. I mean it's it's a midweek game, you know, sandwiched between you know what could be you know,

two good wins. So just pick your head up and I would say let that, let that hour and a half two hour flight, whatever it is. Just erase this entire night and you recommend a Sounder fans, just well please, you may remember this tonight, but it's starting up tomorrow morning. Just completely, just completely forget about this. Moving forward, Let's take a quick break. We'll come back, and I want to follow up on a

couple of things, including Brian Spencer's halftime comments to Michelle Wedka. There two good goals, a penalty kick and then a great goal from Troutco. You know, I hate to make our Emerald Queen Casino play the match in Owegal. I always hate to do that. But his goal, that sensational strike in the sixty fifth minutes, that's got to be at the play. The match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.

A sensational goal in the San Jose Earthpicks beat the Sounders too. Nothing. We'll come back with more on the postmatch show on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back to the postmatch show your Seattle Sounders falling tonight in San Jose to the earthquakes by a score of two nothing, a penalty kick and a golazzo sync the Sounders and put them at the loss. Let's

bringing back in Michelle Ludken, Steve Zakowani down there in San Jose. My name is Jackson Felts. Here at the KJR Studios on Elliott Avenue here in Seattle. A couple more topics that I wanted to bring up regarding this game before we move on and start looking ahead to Dallas in what will be a good game for your Sounders back, and we'll see if Jordan Morris and Christian rolled onco Factor of the United States lost tonight in the Gold Cup semifinals,

so we'll see if Jordan and Christian could be back. But first off, Steve, I want to ask you about these Wednesday games. The Sounders owned four in these short turnarounds this year. Is there any common denominator or anything you can point to you on why this team is struggling so much in these short rest matches. No, the honest answer is no, there's never gonna be an exact reason why, and sometimes you get seasons where that's just the

case. Right. I think even you know, when Michelle bo up to Brian specially today when we're speaking to him, he was surprised because you don't really pay attention to it. Now when you start to dig in and look

around, I think for the Sounds, yes, there are reasons. Right, how many times this season have the sound has had a full team to pick from, not often, so if you're playing guys who maybe wouldn't even be starting on the weekend normally have had to play major minutes on a Saturday, by the time you get to a Wednesday, there's probably more rotation than

usual. Not tonight, but in previous weeks, so you know, you're never really playing your strongest eleven in a midweek game, and sometimes the sounds are going to the third or fourth up for midweek game. That's part of the reason why they're and I think a lot of it too. He just would have sounds like a game like tonight. It just never happened for them. The ideas were good, I like the first fifteen twenty minutes, and

they just never materialized from there. So that was the issue tonight. I think in previous weeks is because the simplens is how many times as Brian Schmidtz had been able to put his best eleven on a Saturday, let alone a midweek game on short rist It's a good question. I mean, yeah, you look at it overall, and the occasions have been few and far between. And this team right now, I mean there is a positive coming out of tonight it's you know, no major injuries. We thought Obed might have

taken something, but you know, he's a tough kid. He stayed in, so that's good. So you get Jordan and Christian back, and this team could be a very very short amount of time away from one hundred percent.

Michelle, I want to go back to something that Brian Schmitzer told you at halftime, and I thought it was a very important comment that you shared there right when the second half started, and that's what he was talking about, how the team was doing too much and all the players so hungry to do so much and to get a win and to be involved, and they're

trying to do too much. And we've heard that before, and specifically, you know, looking at Nicholas Ladero, a guy who starts on the right wing, and he himself has admitted he is trying to do too much and he is impatience is causing him to go into the middle and then drifts all the way to the left side, which pitches, which pushes Leo Chew inside, and that things don't exactly work offensively, you know. So so based on those comments from Branchmuster, I wanted to get your two cents on on

if you saw that same thing and Steve you jump in as well. Uh and and you know overall this this idea of players doing too much and how that potentially could even be remedied because we have seen it a few times here over the last couple months. Well, I think formation is key in soccer. Yeah, where you're at in the on the pitch, where you're at in relation to your teammates. You know, it's a game of triangles. You're constantly trying to connect passes and keep possession and move down the field,

and you're supposed to be an area. And it's not just Nico la Darrow, I mean Brian Schmitzer also has pointed out, like you know, time and time again that when the attacker up top beat ral Ruidiaz or today it was a bear or you know, whomever is up top. Sometimes we've seen Jordan up there or Freddie and you know, when they're not getting the ball, the first thing they want to do is come back to try and get the ball. But then the second they come back to try and get the

ball. As soon as the ball gets down to the final third and gets crossed in, then there's no one there, and so I think tonight, for me, it wasn't necessarily Nico and his positioning. I was really disappointed to see the lack of bodies actually crashing the box when the ball got down to the field. I mean there were numerous times, and then I felt like, and again I brought this up in the broadcast, kind of asking Steve and Danny about the pitch because I noticed a lot of players falling and

slipping and whatnot. But it also seemed to me and it might it just be again midweek match the players kind of gave up in that second half. But it seemed like, in addition to not enough bodies crashing the goal, when a pass would come in and cross in, the timing was just so not there. And it was and it was almost like, wait, why why aren't we getting that timing? Yeah, I think Michelle makes an excellent

point. You know, we didn't get to touch on it's too much on a broadcast, but every time the ball did get wide, and you think about the second half, the whole reason Alex Rodan came on was to get more crosses into the box. There was a couple of times the ball came in it was just roll inside the box. You know, you didn't have the opposite winger, which should be Leo True crashing the box. You know

you want Albert Russneck also get into the box your two sixes. Attention to involved, which you take up higher positions for the counterpress, but also for anything that falls on the edge of the box. We never really saw that the options weren't there, the runs weren't dynamic. Everything looks slower as the game went on. The sound has got slower and slower and less decisive in

the final third, and honestly never really looked like scoring tonight. There wasn't a stretch of play where they really were, you know, peppering the San Jose gold and putting the back of under pressure. They were good more months, but nothing sustained. And I think a large part of that was the lack of runs inside a box. When the ball got wide, they just wasn't enough action inside the box, so the guy on the board didn't feel compelled across it, and when they did, it was one against five.

Steve, and I love that you said that because and the sounders were slow, because when I was watching this and again this was kind of to my point, of asking about the pitch conditions because it seemed like the ball was moving too fast. And you're right, it's the players were too slow. And I think that goes to their mentality tonight, the overall effort that we saw on the pitch. Yeah, yeah, Steve, go ahead. No, I think he just played into Sundose's game and the game plan was set

from the beginning. They wanted the Sounders to have possession. The Sounders at times had seventy percent, sixty five percent, but a home team doesn't usually allow that. They wanted that. They took their chances in transition and that's how they wanted to play. And when you have that field of Sounders, you have got to take care of the board of the final third. You

can't be sloppy. The Sounders were a little bit sloppy in the final third, played into the game penasun Jose wanted, and for that reason they also suffer tonight. You're both exactly right. I mean, the best chance for the Sounders tonight was in the seventh minute. That's shot by a bear. We turned to his left and it was a save on Marsenkowski. Other than that, you're exactly right. Nice Steve, I think you nailed it. The lack of decisiveness and in the final third it just it was you know

who's going to take the shot? You you, you, and it just it wasn't there. For the Sounders, we'll take one more break and continue the postgame show. I want to bring you guys back for one more quick segment as we look ahead to FC Dallas coming up on Saturday. Jackson Felts, Michelle Ludkins, Steve Zakawani from San Jose. Please drink responsibly. So Steve, I'll start with you. I mean, this is a team that's, you know, coming off of a loss, but two wins before that. You know, how are they going to be able to forget this quickly and move forward? How do you think the vibe will be injuring a big game on Saturday? Yeah, and the team will be fine. I think, you know, we don't know yet what's

gonnappen with you know, Jordan Morris and Christian Road. That would obviously be a massive boost if they can even come off the bench and give you twenty thirty minutes. I'm hopeful, but even show off that with those who come in by, you have the chance to make it nine points out of twelve. If you went on the weekend. That's a positive four game stretch,

and then this game Moody doesn't mean much in that context. The issue is if you follow up tonight with another bad game in front of your fans and you drop points again, then it makes the two wins look like they would the anomaly, and you don't want that. So yes, playing for three points on a weekend to keep your good form going. I don't see this group of players and this team and this coach having any issues being up for

it. Michelle, you're looking at this weekend game. You know, obviously Vibal play into it as well, But I think for Brian Schmitzer getting this team ready to go, and we'll see again about you're really quick, really quick becausetive. He brought it up right there, but before before I ask me Michelle about this game as well. We look at how much those two

guys played tonight for the United States men's national team. I believe fifty seven minutes for Christian old On, forty five minutes for Jordan Morris, assuming they're traveling back and maybe a quick regend session tomorrow maybe and they train with the team on Friday. Is it realistic to expect anything from them on Saturday. Considering fifty seven minutes from Christian forty five from Jordan, you know, I would think you probably would see at least ten to twenty minutes from them.

My guess is they will be at least subbed on depending on how the game goes. But I think, you know, that'll be up to Brian Schmenzer and the fitness staff. My guess is they won't rejoin the team until Friday, and then they'll have to kind of see how they've been and they won't just look at what they played tonight, but they'll look at how much they've played over the last couple of weeks, very similar to what they're doing with

Alex Roldan. They're obviously, I think, not gonna want to risk anything. You obviously flying, traveling all that. You know, you want to make sure their bodies are right, especially with Leagues Cup coming up, that you wouldn't want to risk any injuries, especially you know, given that Christian was out so much and kind of read getting back before he left for the national team duty. So I would assume you would see them in some capacity, but I wouldn't. I don't think I would. I would plan on

seeing them a lot. Yes, Steve, what do you think considering those minute way? I agree with Michelle, ten to twenty seems right. But what do you think I mean, I can see it both ways, because I mean it's no different to having them a play tonight. If they played in this game tonight, the whole same number of minutes, they could start on right and right, it's still it's still a playing, right to travel issue, right to rejoin. Yeah, that's the main thing. What condition

do they arrive in, so they need to get assessed right away. But Christian historically is a very durable player. You know, Jordan probably might be better off the bench. But it's gonna depend on them. I mean, it's gonna be their import. They're probably a conversation happening now with them, if not first thing in the morning, and once they get back on Friday to Star Fire, they get assessed. It's no different to playing a midweek game for your club. So I don't think that should be too much.

It wasn't an overseas trip. They will in America. They're here, so I can see them playing big minutes. If they're fit, there's no injuries and want to play. I will play them. But before I let you both go, there's then the question of, you know, when they are back and healthy and the rest of the you know, the the first choice, you know, the first choice I put in air quotes, you know,

starting rotation. Uh, there's the great question of what do you do do you put Jordan out on I don't even know how to set this up because I don't want to actually, you know, set anything right in front. But Steve, how do you set up the combination of JP, Christian Albert, Nico Leo Chiu, Jordan Roll? How do you set up that offensive tandem when they're all healthy, who's the odd man out? Or how do you configure that? Well, I'll say it's a very nice problem to

have. That's a problem we haven't had enough of this season. So Brian Schmtz any stuff, they'll be welcoming that it's gonna go down to form. I think in the very very best team, you still think where I was the number nine. That then pushes Jordan out to one of the wings. M Leo true, how can you bench him right now? He's been playing very very well. So these are good issues to have. I think see

a lot of rotation in that. But I think Brian Schmidt, as we get towards the last four or five games and inching towards the playoffs, he'll have to settle on his first eleven right for what he wants to close season out. But up until then, we'll see rotation. There'll be games when Nico's out, I can tell you that. For Shure, I think that will happen. There'll be games when Leo choose out. They'll be game when Jordan's at the line. I think he has options there, but we haven't

had those this year, so I welcome then. I just want to add their Jackson too. I think it's really interesting what Steve just said of you know, as we get to you know, four or five, six games left in the season, Brian schmister is really gonna have to figure out what that formation, who those players, what is a starting attack looks like. And it kind of blows my mind that we're in a season where there's ten

matches left in the regular season. Yes, we've got leagues Scott, but there's ten MLS matches left in the season and we don't have that answer. Yeah, yeah, and Brian Schmiser doesn't happen that's a good point. Like if you think about how crazy the season has been in terms of injuries and up and down and this and that, like it's it's it's gonna be a really interesting stretch. It's gonna be so interesting that that's a wonderful point.

I'll chew on that a little bit coming out in our next segment of Both You, Safe Travel Back to Seattle. Wonderful call tonight's game aside, who was a great broadcast. Following a two nothing last night to the Earthquakes down in San Jose, Thanks again to Michelle Ludka and Steve Zakwane and they joined the broadcast there. Steve was on the call there with Danny Jackson and San Jose Michelle on the sideline. Three of them. Great call down there in San Jose. Unfortu. The team did not put together a good enough performance, two goals for the Earthquakes to none

for Seattle. Their two goals were a penalty kick from Espinoza in the nineteenth minute. It was a fair foul in the box on Yaman Gomez Andrati in the eighteenth minute. Espinosa stepped the line and hit in the nineteenth and then an incredible goal by their left back Trauco in the sixty fifth minute corner kick from Espinoza that he sailed to the top the far side, a corner of the box, and you know, a little bit like Jimmy Madronda hit in

Portland back in what was that twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen. I think that was the six to two game. For all of you Sounder fans who absolutely remember that, wonderful, wonderful memories. You know, the corner came way out to Jimmy Madronda who hit it with his left foot, and I believe that one actually hit the crossbar and went right down into the back of the

net. This one wasn't exactly the same positioning, but it was sort of the same kind of corner kick that sailed and Troalco hit one of the goals of the year in Major League soccer, hit it into the right side of the back of the nets, and that was San Jose's second goal. And then we talked about in the postgame show, just disappointing for Seattle because what happened at the end of it was a lack of energy, a lack of tempo, nothing going on the offensive end, unfortunately, and for your Sounders

it ended up in a loss. Now, the other thing that affects the Sounders is the fact that LAFC one tonight against Saint Louis. This was a battle between the first and the third place teams in the Western Conference. Saint Louis went to LAFC in LAFC one three nothing. I believe with those three points, LAFC has now jumped Seattle for second place in the Western Conference. So here is this crowded, really crowded room in the West right now,

this is wild. I mean you look overall and ten points divide second place from eleventh place LAFC with thirty six, Seattle with thirty five, Salt Lake with thirty four, San Jose now with thirty two, three behind Seattle. Then you have an even crazier bunch. Here where three points divide three through eleven, Austin at twenty nine, Dallas at twenty nine, Houston at twenty eight, Vancouver got the win there at twenty eight, Minnesota at twenty seven.

Kansas City, which were the bottom dwellers. Kansas City has surged back with now twenty six points, so three points divide six through eleven. It's gonna come down to the decision day. I guarantee you for a few of these final spots for the playoffs. Thankfully, nine teams make the playoffs, so Seattle right now, well in good position right now at third place, thirty five points. But yeah, we fell a spot, so not good tonight. With that said, I believe we have some things ready here,

so lots of good press conferences and lots of good content. We're gonna get to head coach Brian Spencer in a few minutes in our final segment of the post match show. But here, let's head down to San Jose. Both Alex rolled On, who subbed on in this match in the second half at halftime, actually for Cody Baker and Stephen Cleveland, your Sounders goalkeeper starting right now. Well, Stephen Fry deals with a concussion, so als rolled On

and Stephens Fry both stepping to the mics for a press conference. Let's start off with the questioning down there in San Jose. Yeah, just um, kind of how you guys felt you reacted to going down and again in a match is obviously something that happened on the weekend, but kind of the difference in how it turned out. I think we started off really well to the unfortunate palty, and then I thought we continue to maintain possession really well.

We're able to create many great chances out of it. I think our energy getting a little bit better in the second half, just a little better body language from the team. But I think our possession are what I mean, our shape, our system, we're just couldn't spot. All right, thank you, next question, we'll go over to Jada Evans. J please go ahead and ask your question. Thanks, Um, Steph. Kind of building

on that a little bit. It just seemed like after that goal that Um, then it kind of just set the wind out of y'all in the second half. I know you, what did you did you kind of field like that way? I mean, when you have a binger like that that goes against you sort of. I mean, I think it's frustrating for us defensively. Um. In the last two games, Uh, four set piece goals, I mean a free kick, penalty, goal kick, and a corner. Obviously it's a it's a fantastic shot. It's difficult for us, but

I think we put kept the pressure on them. Alex had a good chance near the end. I think our energy needs to stay high. And you know when they scored, there are still twenty five thirty minutes left, plenty of time for us to get another goal. Um, we should kind of keep pushing. Next question, we'll go over to Jared my ocean. Jeremiah go ahead, please, Yeah, I know you, uh, you got the you didn't start this one, but were you were you either of you?

Surprised at how little rotation there was from the weekend. Um, I mean you're talking about Vancouver. Yeah, like how much how little rotation there was from Vancouver to this game? UM? Yeah, I mean, you know, three games in one week is is always gonna be tough in this league. UM, rotating you know the amount of guys that we did. Um. You know it could it could benefit us to rest more guys or not. Um, But regardless, I think this this what this league demands.

UM. I think we we we all need to go out there and be ready for ninety minutes, regardless of how tire we are. You know how many games we played so UM. Definitely from in terms of UM, the team's perspective, that's that's not something that we really you know, factor and in terms of how our performances are judged. But um, but yeah, that's just that's just kind of obviously is works and how what it demands

from from teams, like from the teams. I guess let's jump in right there because I want to get to some comments from Brian Schmitzer, who just spoke down there. There is actually some news. Michelle Steve and I were talking about Jordan Morris and Christian Roldan and what they could provide for the Sounders coming up on Saturday against Dallas back home at lumen Field. Christian rolled On George Morris, both of the United States men's national team, both played tonight fifty seven minutes for Christian rolled On, forty five minutes for Jordan Morris. So both of them after United States lost in the semi finals of the Gold Cup. The question is will they be available for Saturday

for the Sounders facing FC Dallas back at lumen Field. That is one of the many things head coach Brian Schmenzer had to say, but he started off his answers by talking about why the team did not rotate as much coming off of Saturday's match in Vancouver. Well, because I think the team that went up to Vancouver, they had had a good performance, deserved to have another chance. Obviously, there was some minute restrictions on Raoul. There was a

little bit of concern by the medical staff about Alexx and injury risk. Those two were different. But you know, we thought that the team that played well up in Vancouver would give us the best chance of winning this game, and of course I didn't have them. What I would say is that the first, you know, twenty minutes of the game, I felt we were playing very well. Reminded me a little bit of Vancouver. We're able to

possess bold for extended periods of time. Shame Maybear seems to be snake bit, but the chance he has, you know, early in the game, it's a good chance. We go up one nothing, the narrative suddenly changes, but that's sports. That's those are the decisions we make, and outcomes are judged based on wins or losses. Ryan, it just seemed like also the that gold m Miguel's goal just kind of took the wind out of y'all.

Did you kind of see that? Um? I know that y'all have had some great bangers before, but you know, it just seemed like, yeah, the first goal, the second goal. Yeah, that one seemed like a just stune job. Well, I remember Jimmy mdrand Is scoring a goal like that down in Portland. Yeah, and yes, it's it was a tremendous strike. Uh, it did kind of knock the wind out of our sales or what was left of it. Jada that that that's something certainly

you just go and say, that was a pretty darn good goal. So credit to them on that one. Yeah, you mentioned, Um, I don't know, trying to do too much. I mean, is that Yeah, not to pick on on one player, but it did seem like Nico was roaming a lot in this one. I mean, is that the kind of stuff that you're talking about, or is that that by design that you want him sort of all over the field that way, or is that you

know something you're you're talking about. It's something that I'm discussing. Look, Nico is you know, arguably one of the best players this club has ever had, and you know, he has played with freedom throughout his career here. This year, we're playing a little different than we have in years passed, and the understanding there is that Nico needs to be a little bit more

discipline. But it's hard. I cannot fault Nicole Ladero's effort for this club, what he puts in every training session, every game, you know, but we need to remain disciplined. I wish that we could balance both. I wish some of the guys that maybe don't put as much effort in, you know, and do play discipline, that maybe they take some of Eco's good qualities. So it's always a given to take there. You know me, Jeremiah well enough to know that I don't mind a little bit of interchange

to create overloads in certain parts of the field. I'm not a real you know, structure Kansas City four three three type coach. I think it's always benefited us to allow players to play to their strengths. But certainly in games like tonight, get frustrated because yeah, there's some giveaways and there's some you know, moments when we get to the right side of the field, and

no one's no one's there to help Brian. Any concern about the lack of movement in the final third to create that, you know, that shot. We had tons of possession the first twenty minutes, but ab Bears was the only real clear chance. I think there was some good movements, some good speed ups, you know, given goes uh. You know, we got

down to the primacyst zone on the left hand side again. You know, I thought San Jose was going to come out and press us a little more, maybe, you know, the and R half of the field a little bit more. You know, Cody's a lockdown defender, maybe not necessarily an attack minded right back. Maybe Reid was a better option there. So I need to reflect on my choices. But certainly, yeah, I was a little surprised they set back. Then the last couple games, you've given up

quite a high number of set piece bowls. Any concern about that or that's just the very concerned. That's four in the last couple of games. Again, certainly to Jada's point, you know, I think the corner kick tonight was a tremendous goal. It'll be for sure goal over the week candidate. But yeah, we need to do better. We need to be switched on. We just need to be better there, because that's an important piece of the puzzle. Well, Brian, is there a chance that Jordan and Christian

can be available for selection on Saturday? I can tell you definitely they will be available for selection. The question will be Look, it was an emotional night. Christian played what seventy five minutes something sixty seventy five tonight. Obviously the ending of the game certainly takes a toll. Jordan played a little bit more during the course of the tournament, but I don't think he's burned out. But they are traveling, you know, and there's an emotional side to

things. You know, the team, our team has done you know. Okay, I mean tonight's performance wasn't good, but the guys that have been here certainly deserve a shot at playing. So it'll be something we discuss. It'll be a talking point when I, you know, get a hold of Jordan and Christian tomorrow and see how they're feeling, both mentally and physically. Okay, so there's head coach Brian Schmitzer. Both of them will be available for selection. We just don't know how much. But listen to have those

guys back. I mean, listen, the last time George Morris and Christian rolled On we're playing with the Sounders, they scored three goals and things worked out pretty darn well. So very excited to have those guys back, hopefully, if not starting now, then starting soon. I know Christian rolled On had a penalty saved in the penalty kick shootout against Panama and that ultimately was the shot being saved in the Panama hitting that knocked the United States out of

the Gold Cup. So they're headed back to the Sounders. We'll see what they can do on Saturday at game against Dallas once again, seven o'clock pre match at louman Field, seven thirty kickoff right here Sports Radio ninety three point three KGr FM for Sounders and FC Dallas, and we'll talk to you on Saturday for that.
