Welcome to the Sounders FC post match show. Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders F seen post match show starts now. Beautiful day here liman field in the game between your Seattle Sounders and the Fallen Timbers has ended, probably the final score of zero zero. Let's head down to the field. Michelle Lutco with Stephan fry So walk away with the win today, but the big upside here

another clean sheet. That's nine on the season, leaguing the leading the league and for you, one hundred career shutouts in your MLS career overall, joining the one hundred club alongside Nick Romato and Kevin Hartman. Congratulations. Have you had a moment to process that milestone? Oh, it just means I'm old. Never it means you're amazing. No shoutouts, our team effort, you know, I always say that, you see how fragile they are and how

quickly us a shutout can get snuffed out. But defensively we've been we've been doing quite well this year, you know, limiting lots of chances and kind of for the most part, buying in on playing as a unit and defending as a unit, and so that it's a stat that kind of falls in a goalkeeper, but it truly is a team effort and and I've got to keep that up because he gives us good chances to get points. Obviously we would have loved to nick one in at the other end and uh and get

three, but it gives us a good chance to get points. And for you personally, you've talked a lot about your journey and your career leaving Toronto, coming here and really kind of reinvigorating yourselves as this incredible goalkeeper here in Seattle. You've had so many high, incredible accomplishments and now adding another one to it. What does it mean personally for you to hit this milestone? Honestly, the personal ones are nice, but we do this for team trophies.

Like you know, I if I if I had all these personal accolades, but but it hadn't been part of a team that was able to put something in the trophy room, then would that be a success. You know, I feel blessed that I'm able to do this for a living and follow my passion. It's great. No, but but you want to win trophies, and so I'm very happy that we've been able well to do that through my career here with the Sounders. I want some more. You know,

these shutouts are not for fun. These shoutouts out for us to try to get into positions to win trophies, and hopefully we can do that this year. We gotta get bad on a tea shirt. I want some more. Let's get some more starting with this season. Walk me through the match today. This it had kind of everything. We were in the middle of the afternoon, the heat of the day, the rivalry, great fans, um, kind of a deadlock going through it. What did you see from your

from your end, I thought we put into good effort. You know, it's it's it's, it's, it's it's it's difficult. We've played. This is the third game for us in the week, and quick turnarounds to the point where you almost can't even train anymore. And uh, you know, usually feel the effects of a game not the day after, but the second and the third day after all. The third day after is game or again, which is quite brutal. So I think we put in a good shift

today. Um, a difficult opponent where you know you don't want to get too stretched him ahead get into a back and forth. There's a couple of spells in the second half where we kind of started opening up a little bit, but we also had good possession on their side, but we weren't able to find that last Bassel pass to put us into a good position to to

get a goal. But you know, sometimes you have to take these games and these results and move on. But now it's about Regin really get your legs back underneath you and have a solid week of training and get right for the next game. Absolutely, you said all right there to finally have a

moment to take a breath after this difficult stretch. What are you gonna think the biggest takeaways are from your team of of areas of improvement or positives from from this, including the four points you guys are able to pick up during that difficult stretch. Yeah, I mean, you know, the first game, we're clean, we get the result, we get the points, we

get the shut out. The second one, I think, even though we lose, and it's frustrating, we we we created a tremendous amount of opportunities, which has been an issue for us, and so that's a positive right there. And then again on just a quick turnaround to be able to come out here and compete hard and uh and you know, give you your best. Like again, we would have loved to to get three points today. But it's been a lot of a lot of work, a lot of energy

expanded by everybody. And so I think that that's the good thing. Everybody showed up to work every every day, every every game. That's what you need to do. But it doesn't make it any easier, right, but everybody did and so I'm happy about that. Stephan. We always appreciate the time. And again, congratulations on another milestone shut out for you. Thanks for Shure Jackson. Thanks Michelle. It's Michelle to get down on the field with Stephan Fried. There's a lot to react to. It's zero zero game

today between your Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers. Let's tell you right now in this shut out, Tonight's man of the match is Yamar Gomez and Drade and your local Toyota dealers are product to present tonight's man of the match. You should say today afternoon, beautiful afternoon, here a lumin field ahead of the doubleheader ol Rain hosting the Poland Thorns in just over an hour. Well,

Jackson Felts Diego Audio and Marcus Hannaman Pete viewing. We're here for the next half hour to break down this match, and let's just go around the room and start with the opening feelings before we getting xs and os and what we saw are how we feeling about coming away with a zero zero in this game today? Yeah, I think, you know, considering being a dirty right and maybe the most important match in MLS, right because of the rivalry

and the history between two the two teams. Personally, i'd be disappointed, but also I understand that there's a Stephen pro was mentioning, right, this is a third game in a week, so always there's heavy legs and there's some pressure for for Giovanni Summers's team. I think this is a great result considering what they're doing right now on the table, right, so coming here and tying and also not looking bad against the Seattle Sounders that struggled to create

chances. I did see some improvement in the second half obviously, and I was happy to see Christian Roldan coming in after you know, missing several matches seeing row ready as again having some minutes, but there was a lack of cohesion, right, I think in terms of creating chances until I would say towards the end of the game. So I think this week is gonna be good for the team to reflect and also to think ahead. They're still in

a really really good writing the table. But to me today it's an opportunity loss of you know, also closing the gap against the teamers and you know, having that staple win against the eternal rival. Well, and clean sheets are way more fun when you're the actual goalkeeper. You know, for the fan you might be going, hey, we wanted a little bit more excitement, but you look, you saw from the from the get go. Hey we're gonna start Freddie up top right there. Portland are gonna sit back a

little bit. It's going to be more of a possession game, right, And it just kind of was a you know, you might say a little bit dull, but at the same time, right, the important thing was getting another clean sheet today, having a chance to win the game. Now, did the Sounders create enough opportunities? Maybe not? Right, You're you're playing with one forward really up in the first half, and so you know, times when the balls we're getting whipped in there was no one there,

but that's just the way that that's going to be, right. Freddie had to push, had to do everything. And then you know, ruidz a Bear come in. So then the dynamic change with Christian rolled in as well coming in and you could see that you know, are really are starters who coming back in. Um, the energy level and it almost paid off, right, it was. It was definitely a game of two halves. But um, you know, obviously we wanted we wanted to see some goals from

the Sounders and it didn't quite end up that way. But uh, you know, nil nil. At the end of the day, it's uh, it's you know, they're not making any ground on us. I think there's a little bit of disappointment in that Sounder locker room and there's probably a little bit of pleasure in the in the Timbers locker room. To your point, it's nine shutouts, that's seven shutouts at home. That's very good four goals

against here. But but we have to say that they probably the Sounders also have to be a bit relieved too, because Portland Timbers had a couple of really good chances that they could have put it away. They had at least two clear ones, one in each half. So um, but I think they wanted more out of this game and wanted to right the ship, especially in this rivalry. Now. So it's four losses and a tie in the last five h not something that I don't know. The term kissing your sister

is, you know, appropriate for this one, Brian. Brian's used it on KRKA, but that's I think that's kind of what it feels like. So so I think they're just gonna be disappointed they didn't pull it out, but it could have gone bad for the Sounders today had Portland finished a couple of chances. But yeah, to Diego's point, we're still at the top of the table. Yes, three games in hand over second place, but you got to keep those guys have to win those games to get ahead of

us. So not quite exactly what they wanted. And again though Stephan Frice has three games in a week, you know, Portland played last Sunday. They lost four one to Kansas City last Sunday, so they come in a little fresher and at the end of the day, we'll take the point absolutely, So Sounders in Portland zero zero today here at Looming Field in the first of this doubleheader with ol Rain hosting the Thorns coming up at five pm.

There's a lot to breakdown. We'll continue digging into the xs and o's of this game and what we saw on the field. Certain players that stood out from today's match. We'll get into that. I'll tell you Sounder fans that sound Transit would like to remind everyone to obey all signs and signals went around train tracks lightwell. Next on ninety three point three KJRFM come back Downwards Beating Casino Pitch, Blooming Field. Postgame shows You're Seattle Sounders and the Tolling Timbers. A zero zero draw today under sunny skies of course, the Rain hosting the Thorns coming up here in a little bit in our doubleheader match day. As the entertainment goes on, people hanging around

the stadium. Beautiful day for soccer here in the Northwest Well. Delta Airlines is proud to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through Ray Foundations One Mile one Ball program. Jackson Fells Diego audio on mucus Hannaman Pete viewing here for the postmatch show breaking this down. We talked a little bit about emotions and how we feel about this zero zero draw

in the first segment. Now let's kind of dig into some exes and os and what we saw on the field by key players from both sides, and to continue off of the thing that Pete finished us, which was that Portland had a lot of chances. I mean, if I was four really good chances in that first half, only one in the second half, and Diego, as we go around the room, start with you, it did feel like the Sounders had more in that second half and they were doing a lot

more and executed on the defensive end to keep the clean sheet. Yeah, definitely, I think second half we saw a different face and we even the team we've been mentioned at during the halftime show that the Sounders needed to come in and show more intensity, winning those walls and also creating more chances, right, I think, you know, in general, Lions, I think the Sounders again it's it's a bitter sweet result because at the end of the

day, you always want to win against your biggest rival, especially at home. But I think considering that the chances and Jackson you were mentioning, right, like, I think at the end of the day, if we see the balance, I think the Timbers had more clear chances than the Sounders Aspria was on fire and you know, fortunately, I meanfortually for them, he wasn't able to capitalize. But I think if we see that, then the Sounds should be okay, we'll take the tie because you know, one clear

chance would be you know, losing the three points. At the end of the day, you lose two points at home. It's still I think one of the things that um, you know, the team and branch Mettern needs to figure out this seasons in particular is that Looming Field hasn't been that fortress

that you know, the Sounders I used to, right. I think in this season in particular, there's been some key losses against a sound was saving this week that you know, he was not expected, right, So I think definitely overall, the Sounders. The way they played the second half. I like that intensity. I like Cody Baker on the on the side,

that kid is just getting so much confidence playing this type of games. Also is gonna give him a lot to not all the soccer wise but also mentally, right, So branch Matter could be happy on that, and Red Baker widening as well. And I think that, you know, the youngsters are working for the for the team right, especially the lung season and we have a BC summer with the with the with this new tournament rather we're gonna have. Yeah, well, I'm trying not to think about that. I'm just

thinking about today. And but you're right, the young players that did a great job today. And it wasn't our best our best team, but to soccer with Pete during the game, and you know, I was only successful and every team I've played out on the four or four two, because when you start off with different formations and different tactics, it's it's hard. It's hard to then figure out what you're doing. And so it was like we were playing for the draw on the first half and then and then how do

you then switch gears and change momentum and and all these different things. So as a goalkeeper, I'm like zero zero, I'm totally happy. I got my clean sheet, my clean sheet bonus. Right, I'm happy. Right, We're we're good as clams. But then all of a sudden, you're like, part of it is we had forty two thousand people here. We need to create more excitement and a team like Portland, right, we need more crosses and we need you know, just everybody should be dying at the

end of the game, right because they can't move and um. And then you know, we did get some impetus from Christian rolled in and a bear when they came in and ruy d is a top but it wasn't It wasn't enough to win the game, right, And that's ultimately why we're sitting here talking and we're like, oh, it wasn't that great of a game. You know, it an ultimate you know, like a fan experience and excitement. But the Sounders did their job and what they wanted to. But you

know, I want I want to see more excitement. I want to see more crosses, more goals. One of your keys to the match at the start of the game was crossing the ball and we saw a few times in the first half, Leo Chi getting going, but at least for me,

I didn't see enough crosses overall in the ninety minutes. No, I didn't either, and that's why it probably wasn't that, you know, the most exciting game, but it was what the Sounders needed to do, and with with the with the bad run they had in April and turning it around, right, maybe this is, you know, what they needed and we're still in first place. You know, it's not you know, it's not the end of the season, right, it's it's the beginning of the season.

We got some crucial minutes to some key players and third game in a week. Yeah, I think when Ruy Diaz and roll down came in sixty second minute, you could feel something, right, the crowd got into it. It elevated the crowd. I think before the game some of the players were talking about we need Brian was talking about too, we need the crowd to get involved. That all happened, but we just didn't get anything out of

it. And when you look, it's been about the last eight or nine games that we haven't scored more than one goal or been shut out, So they're just a bit nimic. The chances they had Wednesday against San Jose were more plentiful and better. I thought, you know Diego has said about Baker on the right hand side, I thought he really came alive. When Christian Moldon came onto the field, you could see him going forward. Maybe it was by design that he had to stay home when he had read Baker Whiting

in front of him. But when Cody, Baker and Christian were together, they looked really good. He looked better on the right than he did on the left. He looked more comfortable and more confident. And I thought when he got into the corner and he got into the Bravo and they mixed it

up vot a card, that was a moment. Let's let's talk about that moment because we haven't felt that big kind of you know, head to head, you know clash rivalry moment and kohe Baker and Claudio Bravo there and something like the seventy somethings minute, thank you, Uh, you know that is a moment where they got into it and it felt the intensity of the rivalry

finally felt back. Yeah did you Yeah? I thought the same, and it reminded me of when Christian Moldon supped into a game and he was a rookie and he ended up going from the eighteen to the eighteen to track back and everybody went, ah, look at that, And that, for me, was that kind of moment. Did you have one of those plane Marcus in the pros? Do you have a moment where you come out and clock

somebody or you make a big save or skate save or something that. I mean a lot of I had a lot of those moments, but the first one. Yeah. But so so when you talk about like key moments, we would need the crowd in it, right. It's up to the players to get the crowd into it, and they would They would be willing right if they go in and make those flying tackles. They do all these things,

they make those runs. I mean, you know, those are the things that the fans remember and you know, like, uh, you know, guy gives the way a stupid pass in the midfield but tracks all the way back and makes some crazy tackle like Sonko used to do all the time because he was terrible on the ball, but he would make the most amazing

tackle you've ever seen. You know, those type of things are are are what gets the crowd into it, right, that might have been his stick, by the way, lose the ball, get it back to keep your job, yeah, and then smash somebody in the corner. But that's what it's about. That's what you know, like Brad Evans used to do, right, like all those all the great players and um Zach Scott. When you think of the Sounders, that's what the Sounders were about, right.

And but the problem is now you get a yellow card for something, and and you know you you miss a game and you don't want anyone playing in your position. The refree the refereeing is different, The game has changed. People remind me that all the time. It's not the same game when you were playing, right, and and it's not. But um still we needed

just more excitement and more work right from the team. Yeah, And then I think I'm I'm with Marcus about the entertainment, right, and especially I think, you know, besides that moment, I think, considering again being a dervy, it wasn't enough right excitement from and for both teams at the end of the day, right, I think I think, well, Timbers, they're happy with the tie, but I think the sounders could at least it's like, you know, being forty thousand people here, he'd be being

a special day a double head. Again, as a fan, you would expect more right to die on the on the side, you know, on the pitch, right in that sense, So I think that that's something. But but again I think there's a lot of factors, right that'll getting three games in one week, even Stephan f I mentioned, So I think that

that that factor is in a lot. But again, being always a Derby, you would expect to all the players just to to you know, to die for evermore, especially after the charter getting a booked in the in the seventh minute right right, you know those type of things you're like, and then Lao Chi had a chance to dribble char right after that, go down the side, like he goes easier, going to follow you, yeah, or you're gonna get past it, right, those are the two things that

can happen. That was in like the tenth minute. That would have changed everything right after that, and you know, and then he decides to come back because we want to keep the ball, right, those are the tactics that we were talking about. Hey, let's keep the ball keep you know, keep possession, whereas if he just keeps going right, maybe he's off in the tenth minute, right, those those are the things that change the

game, right, just those little things here and there. At the end of the day, it's a zero zero game final between your Seattle Sounders and the visiting Portland Timbers. You know, Gamer Gomez and Joti was our Toyota the man of the match a you know, Cody Baker could have definitely been up for that. I will say fifteenth minute, you know, Cody Baker

and at the beginning to the Emeral Queen Casino play of the match. We don't have a highlight for him, but I look back to the fifteenth minute where Portland may have had the best chance of the entire day, where they have a one on one. Cody Baker is able to catch up to I want it. I don't know if it was in a spree or son you have a moreno, but Cody Baker catches up to him on one on one, a massive tackle where he's able to poke the ball to Stephen Fry.

That kept a big shot, a big chance for Porland which could have resulted in a one. Nothing came there. In the fifteenth minute. That massive tackle by Cody Baker in the fifteenth minute. That's our play of the match, presented by the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Great game there for Cody Baker. One more break here in the postmatch show,

we'll come back and we'll talk about what's ahead for the Sounders. The breather they finally get after these latest you know, three four weeks where they've had a lot of midweek matches. Now they get to breathe a little bit. We'll talk about the week ahead four years Sounders coming up next on the postmatch show. As we are here at Emerald Queencasino Pitch Atlument Field watching ol Rain come out and start training ahead of their match against the Pearland Thorne's coming up in just about forty five minutes. But for your Sounders, they don't have to play a midweek match.

They get a full week off. Sounders are going to be heading to the East Coast to face Charlotte FC next Saturday, June tenth. That's gonna be a four o'clock kickoff at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. You can watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple tvp and listen

right here on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM. The Providence Swedish prematch show will start at four o'clock next Saturday, and listen from Spanish language on Lay thirteen sixty, so you know, I mean we'll go around the room here, dear. This is nice to actually a break for this team, a week off, chance to breathe a little bit and continue to improve on and get healthier from from what we've seen here over the last couple of

weeks. Yeah, I mean, definitely that will give a breather to the team, to the players, especially, you know, to see potentially a rolready has play full nighty hopefully next next Saturday. Also, Christian Roldan had some minutes today and seeing him be back next Saturday, that's gonna be an interesting match, right. Charlotte is currently in seven place in the Eastern Conference.

They have twenty one points. I've been to that stadium Bank of America and they put up like forty thousand people easily, right, So it's it's a complicated field. Charlotte. They started, I would say, if the season, but they've been improving our last few games, so to me, it's gonna be a good challenge for Branch Schmetzer's team. Definitely. I think the Sounders they had some good results, especially playing away, so this is a good up tunity to get back on track and show why the Sounders are

one of the main contenders right for for the MLS Cup. Yeah, Marcus, this next week, I mean, Stephen Fry with Michelle talked about improving on what they've they've missed and and certainly he said, would love to you know, nick a goal in and they didn't get that, but getting healthier

on the offensive end. We'll see about Jordan Morris and and just a nice chance for this team to kind of reset their brains coming out of you know, a draw in a four point week where you know, at least in my brain, hey, at least it isn't the lost of Portland, so that's that's something. Yeah, and with the uh, you know, kind of makeshift lineup and we're missing you know, some key starters, it's not the worst result obviously, you know, and draw at home, but you

know, ultimately we want to see some exciting soccer. We want to see We're want to see chances on both ends and you know, the uh, the derby that we talked about, just the game just didn't didn't quite produce that, you know, that excitement that you know, we're we're hoping for, and I think a lot of the fans were hoping for, but ultimately it is. It is the uh good result for the Sounders and you know a chance they got a week for get these guys healthy and go back on

the road. Absolutely, Pete, let's wrap it up by quickly. You know, talking about something that Brian talked to us about yesterday and that's what we have coming up this doubleheader today. You know, we we in that production meaning we were talking with Brian. He was saying that he loves these doubleheader games. It's a great promotion of the sport of soccer. And then the atmosphere that we saw today with forty two thousand, Uh, he's a it's a fun day in Seattle when we can do these events. Yeah,

it certainly is. And the word he uses a celebration of soccer in the in the city. I'm watching Megan Rapino warm up and she's been training at Seattle U for a couple of years now. Adrian Hannah were called and said, hey, Megan needs the grass, and so I did it one day with her. I said, okay, I'm gonna train you play the balls you need us. Megan, I can't do this anymore. I can't kick

it hard enough for you. These are. And I'll tell you what the women's national team was at Seattle training years ago, Mia Hamm, Brandy Chastain, Michelle French. Right, it was that team. Julie Foudy, right, Christine, Lily and Brian and I were standing there watching and and we've just there was a couple hundred people watching the training session, and it was it was it was Halloween, right, it was the thirty first, because

I remember they all went out tricker treating that night in Queen Anne. But Brian Spitzer said this, he said, these women are superstars, right, And I remember just kind of looking at him, going, yeah, you're right, you know, And so we get them in front of us. We are very fortunate in our town. The only thing we're missing is the NBA. We've got the NFL, Major League Baseball, we've got women's NBA, we've got the women's Professional Soccer League. It's pretty cool. It's great,

it's great for our community and fun that they are doing it. I love the fact that it's one ticket for two games. I think that is class, and the fact that it's two clubs that don't really like each other, but they know they need each other and they know, what's best for the game is to put these two games on in the same day. This could be a great tradition. Yeah absolutely, you know, couldn tinue to be as as we saw a couple of years ago and here again this year.

It's a wonderful event. And if if you're just getting in your cars and you're about to leave, and you heard Pete say right there, one ticket to both around, come all right back again, there's no reason to leave, you know, come in and come back in and enjoy Rain Thorns. You already had the ticket for Sounders Timbers coming and watch another fun time. I should mention the Rain have a heck of a history against the Thorns

here in this building. They usually win, So come back in. This is the right now the second place and third place teams in the NWSL. This is a massive battle here for the top of the league. I mean, last year ol Rain captured the regular season shield in NWSL, Thorn Scott the postseason championship. So these are the two teams of the class of this league. We'll see what happens coming up later today. But once again, for your Sounders, it's a zero zero draw against the Portland Timbers. Today

we used the term a little bit like kissing your sister. I think I think that's a little bit of an app description today. We aren't satisfied at the end of the day after four straight loss the Timbers. It's not a loss, so at least that's something I want to thank everybody with the broadcast today, Mitchell running everything back in the studio for KJR, Terry Ryan here on side, Keeley Dunning, our broadcast director keeping everything on the rails.
