Speaker 2

What's a file here from Bloomenfield.

Speaker 3

Celebratory smiles all around, as your Sounders have captured a massive three points here in this Western Conference race, and they have jumped, they have jumped me Hughes with a one nothing win over Houston here tonight at Luminfield. And as players here on fan appreciation night are thrown and kickers kicking soccer balls into the stands right now, giving

a bunch of balls away to fans. A very very fun atmosphere to night in Luminfield, as everybody, whether they end up with a ball or not, they're going home happy because the Sounders have gotten a big win here tonight. We talked about in the pre match show Pete fielding Jackson Felts by the way here for the postmatch show. This was a true six pointer because Houston started the night one point ahead of Seattle. Three points for Seattle.

That's taking away three points from Houston. Three points for Houston. It's taking away three from Seattle. It's a true six pointer and it went Seattle's way with the one nothing win a twenty second minute goal from Paul Rothrock and boy, the defensive effort Pete tonight was outstanding for a Houston team that is the highest possession team in MLS. Seattle did so well. They put the Clams down and they held them scoreless for ninety Yeah, I.

Speaker 4

Am you know. You make a great point. Getting the shut out very very important. There were more goals.

Speaker 5

For the Sounders on the table to have tonight, but getting that win, especially as you say after.

Speaker 4

The San Jose game, that's a big relief.

Speaker 5

Coaches want to be You don't like to win one nothing until it's over. When it's over, you go Okay, good, we can hold a league. You can handle the pressure. That's an important thing to be able to do. So there were goals. I'd love to see Jordan Moris Morris, he's on thirteen right now. I'd love to see him get to twenty. And that goes into the playoffs as well. I thought he could have had a couple of tonight.

He was unlucky on the one with Paul Rothrock. He did everything he could laid out to get a foot to it, and he did well to get a foot to it, but just skimmed off the outside of the post. So yeah, that Seattle had some real good bright spots.

Speaker 4

And now it's up to Vancouver.

Speaker 5

There's time to look at this and there's time to make some Hey, this is what we got to do better.

Speaker 4

We got to start a little quicker. But they're going to be pleased with this.

Speaker 5

And now, gosh, you can feel playoffre becoming a little bit more clear. And this Vancouver game is equally huge. So you put this one behind you and you get ready for Canada.

Speaker 3

We'll definitely talk about Vancouver later on tonight. But you mentioned with the playoff atmosphere, I mean, you'd feel the temperature is a bit lower right now. It's what fifty four degree is. Probably it feels like October days. It feels like playoff time. And it feels even more so because I see about draped.

Speaker 2

I don't know.

Speaker 3

There might be thirty to fifty times on this stadium a big reader.

Speaker 2

Board that says the word clinched.

Speaker 3

Because in case you missed it, we gave you the news of the halftime show because of the results went Sounders way before this game even hit halftime, because all those results went Seattle's way. Yes, the Sounders have clinched a spot in the twenty twenty four MLS Cup playoffs, and with the win, they put an exclamation point on that they are going to be in the postseason.

Speaker 2

Now it's a.

Speaker 3

Question of seeding fifth place. Right now, they're on the same number of points as a team the Colorado Rapids, who oh, by the way, they face in a week on the road down in Colorado.

Speaker 2

This race is going.

Speaker 3

To get even crazier here in the final three games, and as Pete said, it begins with Vancouver coming up on Wednesday in this.

Speaker 2

Three match in eight day stretch.

Speaker 3

We will talk more about Vancouver later on to I but pee in this game specifically, you know, one of the things that stood out in this game was the fact that we talked about this in halftime, how it was one nothing, but this could have been two three. Four thirtieth minute, knew who rothrocked crossing to Morris comes off the post on a sliding kind of kick. You know that Jordan tries to get as much as he can on He believed in it. He made the run

and it just came off the post. Thirty sixth minute, great build up Morris Albert Pedro, but couldn't put it in the back of the net.

Speaker 2

The forty fifth plus two you have Pedro and in three v two Morris running off to his right. If he just teaches it to Morris, that's a goal. And it's two nothing at halftime.

Speaker 3

This match could have been so much more than one. It's great they won one nothing, but there's so much meat on this bone, and you know they're gonna be chomping at it here over these next week.

Speaker 4

And they can walk away from that.

Speaker 5

Everything you said, they know and you're right, and so everything that they feel the same thing.

Speaker 4

So they feel like it's coming, you know what I mean?

Speaker 5

As players, you say, hey, we were really close that one combination you talked.

Speaker 4

About in the thirty six minute they exchange.

Speaker 5

And the movement off the ball between de la Vega and Rusnik and Morris made a core great run and if Verstnick had kind of put his foot on the ball and flipped it behind him, Morris was ready to carry on into an open spot into the six yard box right in the middle of the goal. So yeah, there were some good opportunities. They created a lot of good chances. I think the coaching staff is gonna say, look, look at this, this was fantastic.

Speaker 4

Let's just finish it. Look at this, this was fantastic. We just got to finish it.

Speaker 5

So Vancouver will be I am. I'm thrilled that. You know, it's a Wednesday game. We've got tomorrow off.

Speaker 2

Uh.

Speaker 5

And then it's a pretty short drive. I like that drive better than the one to Portland, to be honest. And and it's not the same as much as as much prettier. Well, the rivalries between the two are very different in my opinion.

Speaker 4

It's a little more collegial, if you will, between a little more uh for it.

Speaker 5

Yeah, I think I think the Vancouver Seattle rivalry has a little bit more class to it. Maybe, Uh, there's not the hatred, I guess, is what I would say. And so so with that there's less distraction. So if Seattle can create the things they did tonight. By the way, I thought Georgie coming off the bench, great decisions. He was fouled a couple of times and didn't get the call. I was surprised about that.

Speaker 4

He is a load.

Speaker 5

He is a big man and uh, you know, hard to knock off the ball, and he turned the corner a couple of times today. Plus his quality final product, it's quite impressive for such a young guy with so little minutes with the first team. So you know, if you're he gets the start maybe on Wednesday, I don't know if that's gonna happen.

Speaker 4

Paul Rothrock getting.

Speaker 5

Rested a little bit, uh de la Vega getting a little bit less than we expected.

Speaker 4

Time wise, we should be coming into this Vancouver game ready to go.

Speaker 3

Well, you mentioned Paul Rothrock a bad big congrats to Paul Rotharker gets the seventh goal of the twenty twenty four It's not only MLS season twenty four season. Overall, he has one US Open Cup goal, he has two Leagues Cup goals and now with his goal tonight in the twenty second minute, his fourth MLS goal to make seven total.

Speaker 2

A great season for Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 3

Now listen, a big congrats to him, but with all due respect for me at least, and I'm gonna just take over and I'm gonna say this is happening right now. Our Toyota Man of the match is Jamarc Gomes Andrade, your local toyoer dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. I'm not sure what it was in stadium, but pete for me. Defensively, the clean sheet, the job that Yamar did. I think he might have made about

seven steps and various plays and interceptions. I mean, we know obviously he's defensive prowess going back the last few years, but he made so many massive plays tonight to make sure Houston did not get any balls even close to dangering Stephen Fry.

Speaker 5

Yeah, he was good. I got a text from buddy of mine. He said, Yeymar is uncharacteristically tidy.

Speaker 4

He is, he's he's a very skillful player, reads the game.

Speaker 5

Really, the guy that size, Yes.

Speaker 4

He is six six body fat.

Speaker 5

Yeah, when he came and you know, you look at these men up front, you and you see them and you think, oh boy, he's a low and and with pairing with Jackson Reagan, you know, and neither one of them are nasty right as center backs. They don't have that nastiness to them that some center backs have and that frankly, the game's changed and the game's taking that away, which is probably a good thing for the betterment.

Speaker 4

Of the forwards they're playing against. But but he does read the game really well. He's good in the air, it's good with his feet. Uh. He did a good job. And we just looked at the highlights.

Speaker 5

Steph had a couple of key saves, one to the near posts, there was a rebound, a good punch out in the second half.

Speaker 4

Our back line, you know, is really kind of in sync.

Speaker 5

Right now between new who and rolled on the white guys and then the center guys, that's a pretty cohesive unit. And now with Obin and Christian and without JP he was a part of that cohesiveness. Now Obin and Christian are now part of that cohesiveness.

Speaker 3

I mean, you look at the last six games overall, you know, you give up one goal to LAFC, one goal to Portland, nothing to Columbus, nothing to Kansas City, the two to San Jose of course, which of course should have been one, and then then nothing here tonight. I mean that is one, two, three, four, four goals conceded in your last six games. That is pretty darn impressive for your Sounders right now. And that is the number right there defensively that can get this team, I mean, frankly,

as far as they can go. It's just a matter of can you get by a Galaxy or LAFC en route to it to a title. So you know, really it's it's the defense first. As always, defense wins championships. And over these last six games, four goals conceded in six that is a number that will work certainly moving forward. But you got to keep it going against Vancouver coming up on Wednesday. A couple of notes before we take

a break here tonight, and that's that. Speaker 1

Now back to Seattle, Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 3

See Sounders win tonight one nothing. That means we got to play taking care of business. Christ we got taking care of business anywhere on that board there. We'll see if we can bring that one in here there it is crank that baby. There we go Sounders broadcast tradition

Sounders taking care of Business tonight here at home. One nothing went over Houston, so we of course played taking care of Business here on the postmatch show after this one nothing win, Hey, it's time for our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match.

Speaker 2

As the music cranks.

Speaker 3

Paul Rothrock is the one who gave the Sounders They're winter to night the ball.

Speaker 5

He's back of the netting goes, the fire explodes, and.

Speaker 2

The fans are on their feet. It's Paul Rothrock. But the sound is up here, lerman Field. Sound is won Houston Nill.

Speaker 3

It's the play of the match, presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Great call there from Danny Jackson, Steve Zachaluni as well on the call tonight.

Down on the McDonald's app today and check out the deals waiting for you. Pete, for Paul Rothrock, I mean to pull back.

Speaker 2

The curtain for everybody.

Speaker 3

We're watching this game in a booth that's about two doors down from where we are right now. And he scores in the twenty second minute. I want to say, in about the twenty first minute, about forty five seconds before that ball hit the back of the net. Pete Feling here turns to me and he says, Old Rothrock he has a spark that can ignite this team right now, you can ignite this game. Forty five seconds later, Pete Well called.

Speaker 4

Well, you can see it right, you can feel it, you know.

Speaker 5

He wasn't as engaged and he went to the carpet to pick off a pass.

Speaker 4

And the pass that he picked off, he also set himself up for a good touch.

Speaker 5

He looked up, he saw Jordan and he's tried to slip him through right away and it was just off by a little bit.

Speaker 4

But it why that changed.

Speaker 5

It tilted the field all the way towards Houston, and then Houston couldn't get out nearly to the end of the first half, and then he had he had the wherewithal I loved that. Jordan Morries did the same thing, but it didn't result in a goal. But Paul followed behind Russnek and Rusnik cut inside. He was weaving through two or three players and it was he had a difficult path going through the box and he's probably about ten yards out left side of the goal, and as he cut it back, Paul was there.

Speaker 4

To pounce on. It.

Speaker 5

Just is very opportunistic and we've seen that throughout his time this year.

Speaker 4

And you know, Brian.

Speaker 5

Schmitzer said it a couple of weeks ago, he's going to be one of the bright stories. And he continues to write another chapter now with seven goals.

Speaker 4

But he was there. And then then again, what I like.

Speaker 5

About Paul is on the pass he picked off, he gave himself a good first touch and he immediately played it on the goal that he scored. He recognized it, and he hit it hard enough and he put a little bend on it and Clark and Goal got a good hand to it. Yeah, but he hit it hard enough that he had no chance.

Speaker 4

He couldn't. Clark did well to get down and get a hand. But but good for Paul Robb. That goes in anywhere in the world.

Speaker 5

And I say that because I think if that's an EPO game, then that goes in.

Speaker 3

Right. It was.

Speaker 4

It was that kind of goal. So it's one of those things where kids, if you're watching it.

Speaker 5

Home, right, you got to follow the you gotta follow the play. Jordan Morris did the same thing. Jordan makes a lot of runs where he doesn't get the ball. Sometimes he makes runs that open things up for other people. And then Paul had a tremendous cross to Jordan not four minutes later, and Jordan went to.

Speaker 4

The carpet and got a good foot on.

Speaker 5

It, but it just skimmed off the outside of the post. Then he had another one maybe six minutes later. So he gets repped up and then he brings others with him. He plays the ball to Russneck and that one was off by a yard. That's too bad because Russneck, if it goes to him, he has a touch and he has a good clear look with all out of room,

maybe eight yards out. So I thought Paul was really good tonight on the left hand side, and then Georgie came in and now all of a sudden we got some wingers that you know, they're a little bit unpredictable at times, and people say, hey, Paul Rothruck, isn't this Paul ro Rothruck, isn't that?

Speaker 4

He loves that.

Speaker 5

Yeah, and I think he's proven people wrong all the time.

Speaker 2

Absolutely he is.

Speaker 3

If we didn't mention it before, I want I'll say a great, great goal in the play of the match is presented by Emeraldton Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Also want to mention that Delta Airlines is probably donate it one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through Ray Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. We'll take another break here in the postmatch show, we'll come back and look ahead to Vancouver, and we'll

also look ahead to June of twenty twenty five. We'll explain why next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 3

Welcome back to Loominfield, where the Sounders were victorious tonight with a one nothing win over the Houston Dynamo. They jump Houston into fifth place in the Western Conference. They are on the same number of points as the Colorado Rapids at fifty. But now it's a question in these final few games of the regular season, can the Sounders get a precious top four seed in the West. The quest will continue this coming Wednesday. It's a busy three

game in eight day stretch. They actually faced Colorado a week from tonight, but this busy stretch continues on Wednesday. We're all gonna be up in Vancouver, the team and the broadcast crew up in Vancouver this coming Wednesday.

Speaker 2

At BC Place.

Speaker 3

We will have a seven o'clock Providence Swedish prematch show and a seven thirty kickoff that will actually be over on nine to fifty k AM there on Wednesday. You also watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV AP and listen in Spanish language on l Ray thirteen sixty and currently, Portland came away with a one to one draw against the Sorry, Vancouver came away

with a one to one draw against Portland tonight. So you look at the standings right now, Pete Sounders could really put Vancouver in the rearview mirror with a win on Wednesday. Vancouver has been good, obviously, they've had a solid season. It's gonna be a big match there north of the border on Wednesday.

Speaker 4

Well there's two factors.

Speaker 5

One, we want that home field advantage, so yeah, well let's go get the win. And the other thing is you want the momentum, and I thought there was. I thought tonight created a bit of momentum. I thought we lost a little with the San Jose game, but we got it back today. So if you go get another one and then the next to Colorado and at Colorado, that'll be interesting you talk about the weather change. We could you don't know what it's gonna be like there this time of the year.

Speaker 4

You could end up with no snow or whatever, and then and then to end at Portland at home. It could.

Speaker 5

It could put us in a good spot going into the playoffs. And to your point, we want to get to the place where we're going to play a Los Angeles team in a in a playoff game, so momentum going into that is really really important right now.

Speaker 2

Like do we want to face LAFC in the any round?

Speaker 3

No?

Speaker 2

But would I love to have to? Event I loved it?

Speaker 3

Well, would I love to see La Galaxy beat LAFC and then we face the Galaxy who we just beat three to one.

Speaker 2

What a month and a half ago here at Luhmen.

Speaker 3

I would love to see the LA Galaxy in a West final with a confidence.

Speaker 2

We have against that team.

Speaker 3

But again, all of these dreams and all of these wonderful thoughts means getting through these rounds, getting a top four seed I think, and getting the points necessary to get there, and that will be a big, big test there on Wednesday, once again seven o'clock Providence. We just pretty much so seven o'clock kickoff nine to fifty kjm

for Sounders and white Caps. Really quick, before we end tonight's broadcast, want to give you, guys, if you haven't heard, some very big, awesome news about the Club World Cup in twenty twenty five. Earlier this afternoon, FIFA announced there will be twelve United States stadiums hosting games for the Club World Cup in twenty twenty five. One of those twelve stadiums is indeed lumen Field. Lumen Field here in Seattle will host games in the twenty twenty five World Cup.

And of course that is important because the Sounders are right now the only Major League Soccer team in the Club World Cup. There could be another one, but for right now, the Sounders are the only MLS team in the Club World Cup, and of course that being related back to winning CONCACAFF and of course being part of the other Club World Cup that was in Morocco a couple.

Speaker 2

Of years ago.

Speaker 3

They will participate in the Club World Cup next year, which is a new expanded tournament thirty two teams which will be at twelve again twelve venues in the US. Lumenfield is one of those twelve venues awesome opportunity to have you know, teams of the biggest stature in the world. I mean, we're talking about you name it, Real Madrid's man cities. The biggest teams are on the globe, and they could be playing here in Seattle.

Speaker 4

Well that in a meaningful game.

Speaker 5

We've had a lot of oh great teams that have come here for some friendlies, but a meaningful game.

Speaker 4

Here's what I like about this one.

Speaker 5

It's at a time where the sound are not at the very beginning of a season as they were when they went and played in Morocco.

Speaker 4

That was the very very beginnings January February. This is July. And then the.

Speaker 5

Second thing that's just really fun about this is that one year so that the Club World Cup goes June thirteenth to July fifteenth. That's the same timeframe of when Seattle will be hosting six World Cup games in twenty twenty six. So pretty exciting time if you're a soccer fan to be in this city. We're going to be engulfed by a lot of people. I heard a stat that they expect seven hundred and fifty thousand people to

come to Seattle for the World Cup. Half we'll have tickets, so you might want to start a hot dog stand or a kool Aid stand in your front yard because we're going to.

Speaker 2

Be Is there money in the banana standing?

Speaker 4

Yeah?

Speaker 2

I don't know, but five people understood that reference.

Speaker 4

Maybe I'm not one of them. But here's the deal.

Speaker 5

This will be come at a time for the Sounders that they should be up and running, and they'll put some emphasis on this as they did before in the Champions League.

Speaker 4

So it'll be a fun thing.

Speaker 5

And then I hopefully we get a preview and hopefully we can get a capacity crowd here for for these.

Speaker 2

Every game, every game.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it's gonna it's gonna be absolutely massive. I mean, you know, who knows what the matchups end up being at Lumen Stadium, you know, Lumen Field here, you know, and who we end up seeing, but the atmosphere next June, you know, and the atmosphere of the June to follow, I mean, we're in for the next two calendar years here in Seattle for soccer.

Speaker 2

Uh, it's just gonna be a dream.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 5

Well it's I've been telling a lot of people this and here's the one last stat that I think paints a picture Qatar, the World Cup and guitar. The least Watch game had two hundred million viewers. The least watch game the Super Bowl a month later had one hundred and seventy five million viewers. So it is the magnitude of these World Cups or these club World Cups is significant. And wouldn't it be awesome to hear you say, you know, we could have man City here, Barcelona here, somebody.

Speaker 4

That that in a meaningful game.

Speaker 5

It's it's great when we have them here, uh, for these friendlies, but that there's a different feel to it. But when it's and for Brian Schmetzer, good Lord, to be able to coach in one of those kind of games, that's just a and all these players, I would be standing next to whatever player I wanted to get the jersey right after.

Speaker 2

What's what's the what's the dream scenario?

Speaker 3

The dream scenario is that you know, the Sounders are playing a man City or Real Madrid here lumin Field, and Brian Schmtzer is on the sideline coaching in a competitive match against one of those teams, not ten minutes from where he grew up.

Speaker 4

Yeah, no, that's it.

Speaker 5

He'd be standing next It's incredible stuff up. Yeah, yeah, it'd be standing next to Pep and saying, quirky, make sure you get about one hundred and fifty pictures of this, make sure I look good.

Speaker 3

So but yeah, I always says, everybody save up because you might need to dump a few bucks into tickets over these next two years with the Club World Cup and then the FIFA World Cup coming in twenty five and twenty in these juns ahead, but loominfield, this beautiful, beautiful stadium we get to be in. It's gonna be a great place to be here over the next couple of years. It was a great place to be here tonight as your Sounders took care of business with a

one nothing win over the Houston Dynamo. We talked about Vancouver ahead. It is a busy, busy week and these standings will be ever changing. So we'll talk to you from up at BC Place in Vancouver this coming Wednesday. Once again, it's is seven o'clock Providence. We just prematch show seven thirty kickoff over on nine fifty k AM for the Sounders and the white Caps. One thing everybody with the night's broadcast. Great call tonights.

Speaker 2

From Danny and Steve.

Speaker 3

It's Keey here and Ryan our producers here in the booth, Terry Ryan, our engineer here on site, and of course our great board operator Christopher Kidd back in the studio, Pete Fealing, Brad Evans great on pre half post tonight.

Speaker 2

My name is Jackson Felts.

Speaker 3

We thank you all so much for listening once again here from Lumenfield. Your sounders took care of business, jumped Houston in the standings and beat the Dynamo one nothing. Have a good rest of your weekend everybody, and Fox Sports Radio is coming up next.
