Welcome to the Sounders FC Postmat Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now.
It's a final from a little bit field. Your Sounders and San Jose will unfortunately share the points tonight. It is a final of two to two after an eighty ninth minute goal from the Earthquakes take two points away from Seattle. Jordan Morris scoring two goals though, let's head down on the field. He's with Michelle Ludko.
Thank you Jackson Jordan. Obviously not the finish that you guys wanted here tonight, but plenty of beautiful bright spots in this one. How would you evaluate your team's performance, Yeah.
It's it's frustrating.
I thought we started really slow, obviously gave them the goal, and then to not be able to were responding well getting two goals, but to not be able to close out the game. I didn't think the second half was great from us. So we got to clean things up and we have a little bit of time to do that before the next game.
So to that point, only four matches left in this regular season. What does this squad need to do to put themselves in the best position possible as you look ahead to the postseason.
Just keep winning games. I mean it's really tight right now. We'll see how some of the other results went, but yeah, it's tight right now. I think we have two home, two away left, so all against teams that are are fighting for a playoff spots, so those all be massive games.
I think we need to be better closing out games like like we you know show tonight it wasn't wasn't quite good enough in that aspect, but like you said, there were some bright spots too, and you know, we gotta we just got to learn from the mistakes that we had.
Next match isn't for ten days, a little bit of a break right now, which is a little kind of unusual at this point of the season. And never the timing of this never was what you want it to be after a match that finished like it did tonight. But what do you think this group will be able to do with that time? Do you think rest will be more important? Do you think it's fine tuning certain things? What do you think this focus should be?
I got a bout real quick for Yeah, I think it's rest. We've had a lot of games, so some some rest for sure, But then you have fine tuning the things that we'll watch this game and you know, figure out what we need to get better at. And but I think we'll have a couple of days off to rest the bodies and then get back to work.
Now, Jordan, I know you'd be the first person to say you'd wish we were standing here talking about three points that were picked up tonight. But there was a huge milestone hit tonight. Thirteen goals in the regular season for you. You finished the two goals for the Sounders tonight.
That is a new single season record for you. What is it about this season, your play that is continuing to evolve the way it has been, and you just really continuing to be this incredible player we're seeing match after match.
Yeah, I think more extended time playing at the nine, you know, obviously, you know you learn those little movements and those little intricacies of the position. Those were both kind of quote unquote typical strikers goals to you know, typical nine goals. That are something that I've wanted to work on as I continue to grow it at that position. You know, obviously a lot of my goals come from stretching teams getting in behind, but trying to add that
in my game being being better in the box. And you know, I was glad I was able to show that a bit tonight. But obviously play with confidence helps, and I think just getting an extended run at one position really being able to focus all season on just getting better at that.
At that spot.
Well, again, congratulations on hitting that mark for you personally, Thank you as always for the time. Enjoy these next couple of days off and we look forward to seeing the rest of the season.
Thank you, thank you, appreciate it.
Jackson back to you, Thanks Michelle, and thanks to Jordan down there. Congrats to him for his now twelfth and thirteenth goals on the season. Of course, tonight's Toyota Man of the Match is Jordan Morris. Your local Toylet dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. So welcome into the postmatch show Jackson, Feltz and Pete Fewing here for the next twenty minutes or so to talk
about this really unfortunate result. I think that you know, it's it's the cliche that you know, some losses, some draws feel like losses, and some draws feel like wins. This one absolutely feels like a loss, and I'm sure Brian Schmitzer will say the same, and you know that Jordan Morris from his attitude there with Michelle certainly feels the same.
Pete viewing.
Where you have this match leading two to one, you're able to, you know, come back from going one nothing down early, and then it's an eighty ninth minute goal where it's just, you know, unfortunately a couple of defenders losing their guys, cross comes in and it goes into the back of the net for San Jose off the foot of pal Marie, and it's just it's there's no other feeling that I know Sounder fans out there feeling
the same right now. This feels like a loss. And against the last place team in the entire league, who are last placed by a very very large margin, this one really stings.
It does.
And if you flip it all around and Seattle scores in the eighty ninth minute, we're excited that we got the one nothing to win and sure or two two ties.
We're thankful that we would have taken to the ross Steam the MLS.
It does feel, as you say, like a loss because Seattle did have the chances that they had. And kudos for that last goal, Bobase's ball into Marie. Great run from an outside left back who believes the ball is going to get there and he makes that sixty yard run and tucks it in the back of the net. Try had no chance on that one whatsoever. And you know, here's a guy that sounds very dejected in Jordan Morris, and he's just scored two goals and he's broken his
single season record. But that's what it is, right that the team did not want to give that one up. Brian Schweitzer's you know, jumps off the bench, she slaps his hands against his hips, and you know he's frustrated that we've given it up.
Everybody's frustrated.
Alish Wildon was frustrated he gave it up, and you know, Jordan had a good chance to go up three to one.
You know, it is the lesson that this team knows. They know the lesson, and that is that when.
You've got a two to one lead, you've got to get one more just to really bury a team and take away all their hope. Kudos to Ian Russell's team, you know, to come back and stay in the game. You're right their last place, but they got a lot of pride in their programs, so that's a tough one. Now they've got, you know, point wise, you know, we're in fifth place now, but we're at forty seven, Colorado's at forty seven. The one dilemmas, we're at thirty games, Colorado's twenty nine.
Lafc Oh, look at what those two points would have done, because you look at you look at the table and what those two points could have done for Seattle to emphasis to get a top four seed. And I know there's four games left, but like those two points, I know one million percent. I know, you know, when we're talking at the end of decision day, we're gonna look back at the table, no matter what it looks like and say, God, those two points.
Yeah, no question.
And then the next ones between Houston, Vancouver, Colorado, Portland, those are all teams that are in the mix and in the hunt as well, so everybody has something to play for. Seattle definitely wants to be top four so that they can host tournament games. And you know, now we've got a ten day break and that is a good thing.
I think Jordan said it. You know that the team could use a bit of rest. That we had an eight game eight day three game window just recently.
So but that's a tough one and again for I had there's nothing he could have done on that goal. So but you want to get that, you want to get that third goal just to burry teams. We've got to find a way to manufacture that somehow.
I want to talk about the second half coming up, because it was a second half. Jordan said it was a poor second half, and I think that he's absolutely right. We'll talk about exactly why this team wasn't able to get that third goal because it was there for him.
So we have a lot to get to.
I'll quickly tell you that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare.

Welcome back to the postmatch show where I really thought we were going to be here and taking care of business right here. Unfortunately it is not because the Sounders couldn't take care of business. In the final few minutes. San Jose get a late late eighty ninth minute equalizer to tie this match at two, and it ends to to as Seattle splits the points with what is the worst team in Major League Soccer. Unfortunately, tonight here at Loominfield, it is time for our Emerald Queen Casino Play of
the match. We gotta go Jordan Morris because Jordan Morris equal and set his new career high in goal marks with his twelfth and thirteenth goals. Here tonight our play of the match is number thirteen.
Well to Jordaan Learris.
Second goal of the night for Jordah Morris.
What a great time to score.
For the soundest San Jose.
We're not able to deal with the cross Jordan.
Morris, right time, right place, and that's his fifteenth regular.
Season goal of the season.
Sunda's lead two goals to one.
The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Quen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Thirteenth goal there for number thirteen, and it really did feel PDS. He kind of stayed on throughout this whole match like number fourteen was there for him, and it felt like Jordan Morris was gonna get again another goal, whether it was him or not, honestly anybody else. There were so many chances to score in the second half, and I guess I'll just ask you, you know, based on everything we saw in.
Jordan himself at the start of the postgame show with Michelle last segment, said he wasn't a good second half? Why wasn't into good second half? In your eyes?
Well, I thought, you know, Paul Rothrock in the first half was terrific down the left hand side, but he only got the ball two maybe three times in the fifteen minutes he was on in the second half. And because they were dynamic from you know, the left side and then the right side as well, we kind of lost that in the second half. So I think Seattle comes out halftime, they're up two.
To one, feeling good.
They're they're ahead of the last place team, and I think some of it got stuck in their brain and they just they didn't they were switched off at the beginning of the game. That some of the players alluded to that in the first ten minutes and the of the second half, maybe a little bit switched off as well and missed some opportunities to you'll put this one away again.
A third goal would have just ended it right then and there.
So Jordan Morris, you know, gosh, Georgian gave him a really nice ball. Jordan had a good touch and another good touch Danielle came up with a big save coming off his line.
Jordan did everything right on that one. I think we need.
When we got a hot hand or hot foot like Jordan, we got to keep getting him some service. So I think the wing play in the second half, especially down the left hand side, wasn't the same. It wasn't as much and wasn't the same quality as we saw in the first half.
Those two between dala Vega and Rothrock.
They were so dynamic in that first half, putting San Jose on their heels quite a bit, but in the second half it was it wasn't quite the same level.
Yeah, I want to switch gears in a second. Before we do, I'll say that Delta Airlines is proded to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders sc players this season through Ray Foundation One Mile, one Ball program. So I want to switch gears and ask you about the subs. This team does not play for another ten days. They play Houston coming up on September twenty eighth. They don't play this weekend, they don't play
the middle of next week, and listen. As a journalist, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't look into and question all things. And one of the things I question here is the fact that this team doesn't play for ten days. Pedro de Levega and Paul Rothrock come off the field in the sixty third minute. Obed Vargas and Albert Rusnak come off the field in the eighty second minute in a two to one game. I
feel like taking off guys. A workhorse in Paul Rothrock, a guy in Pedo deal Vegga who's gotten his first career MLS assists today, who is working to get integrated in the team. Obed Vargas, who we know is so good. Albert Rusnak twenty one goal contributions this year, playing like a great designated player. I just listen. At the end of the day, I guess I am calling a little bit on Brian Schenser and questioning a little bit of
his decisions here and his coaching staff. Why are we taking off those four instrumental players in those type of moments in a two to one game when you don't play for ten days. P I'm sorry, Brian, if you were listening, I'm sorry, but I am questioning why they're coming off that early.
Well, he has a lot of faith in that first fifteen sixteen players, So for him sometimes it's like for like, and it's true.
Georgie, Reid, Atensi Olave are the four players who came.
On right, right, and so and Georgie coming on I thought was a great spark and warranted more time. Having said, and I understand your question, but where that went in was from the left hand side to the center of the park, and it was deep in our box where the four defenders, who had had a pretty darn good game all game, kind of switched off for a moment. So I understand the comment. But he has a lot of faith that guys can close it out. And and by the way, he's gonna ask the same question of
those players. Hey, if I put you on, I'm expecting you're going to do the work to close it out, help us get another goal. And and so, yes, Georgie's play warranted, in my opinion, more opportunity. He showed how dangerous he can be in the in the minutes that he had and then some players Brian might say, Okay, maybe I can't trust you to come in and close
a game out. We need you to close the game out and and he's going to be very disappointed, and they'll be critical of the entire team, those who came on the field as subs. But then you know, all the way across the board, anybody was on the field. Ton we gave away a thing. He's going to be so disappointed, and the players are. You could see the body language of all the players as well. So I understand the comment and the team simply. You know, I think we've somewhat gotten over a hump, but I think
there's another hits a camel. We get another hump to go right to really we to really get to the spot where we are. You know, you know, you know the Italian national team twenty years ago, they score a goal, it's over right, they're gonna They're gonna win one nothing, and that's just the way it's gonna be. We're not there, and we need to get to that spot in the MLS where we can put a team away with a one nothing lead and hold onto it. And and so I I think we dropped off on the offensive side.
So that meant defensively, you know, we were I don't honestly, we weren't on our heels more that San Jose didn't have a lot of opportunities, but we did switch off for that one. Alex Roldon means it was on the near post and you could and he would you could see his frustration with himself that he that he let Marie get inside of him.
So unusual where the first goal is on you know, a little bit of a combination of Steph being indecisive, but it's Christian rolled on boxing out when he didn't just kick it out. I mean, as I said in the halftime show, went in doubt kick it out, and he didn't, and and.
Aaul just hung up, didn't just it just just sat up there in the air.
Christian tried to box out instead of just kicking it and that that's the sixteenth minute goal. And maybe he was waiting for Alex to come in and hit it. I don't know, but either way, it's it's the role Don's there, and it's the role Dons where Christian loses ebobas on the cross and Alex loses his Paul Marie on the goal. And I mean, gosh, when was the last time we're looking at both roll Don brothers for both goals in a disappointing.
Real.
It's just it never happens, and it's it's frustrating that it is the role don's that we're looking at, you know, as as as the two goals for San Jose. It's it's very frustrating. But you know, I agree with you.
Georgie looked good.
I just you know, when they added five minutes, I looked around the press box and I kind of said, God, it would be great to have Albert Rusnak on the field right now, and and not having a guy with twenty one goal to contributions on the field at the end to try to split a two two tie. Was that as hard? It's a it's a frustrating result, man,
it it just is. Wrapping up the postmatch show here from the Lumenfield, where the vibes are not as good as we thought they could be. It's a two to two final with the Sounders in San Jose Earthquakes. As we've mentioned, the Earthquakes scored a goal in the eighty ninth minutes to equalize this match, and for the Sounders that is dropping two points when it could have been a big three against what is San Jose, the worst team in Major League Soccer, and the Sounders might be looking at those two points.
When it's all said and done, four games left to go in the regular season, I'll quickly say that this season, when the Sounders win, you'll win a free mix chicken the next day, exclusively in the McDonald's app with any minimum two dollars purchase down on the McDonald's up today and check out the deals waiting for you. All right, So four matches left here in the regular season, two at home, two on the road. We will finish, of
course decision day October nineteenth with Portland. You have a couple of matches back to back on the road, Vancouver on Wednesday, October second, and then Colorado on Saturday, October fifth. But the next match for the Sounders, the first of those four, will come in ten days on Saturday, September twenty eighth, back here at Lumen Field. It will be a seven o'clock provident Swedish premat show and a seven
thirty kickoff right here Sports Radio ninety kr AM. Also you can watch it in MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen in Spanish language on LRA
thirteen sixty. So P it's a you know, it's a it's a nice break for the Sounders, and you know, coming off of a frustrating result, it's always that kind of that question of you know, I wonder if those guys wish they were playing this Saturday just to you know, get the taste out of their mouths, or if they are going to kind of embrace this chance to kind of you know, rehab the legs a little bit before the final four.
Yeah, I think they want to play a game, but I think their body needs a bit of a break. And I think the four games coming in because each of those four games are very important in the table and in the opportunity to host one of the playoff games.
So I think they're going to take advantage of it.
But I also think the message has been sent to the players, from the players to themselves, from the coaches to the players that listen, we.
Cannot dilly dally. We've got to put teams away.
We've got to be more clinical, we've got to be more stringent and not give up goals. We've got to be tighter, and so they will come back. I think this rest is perfect timing for it. I think the ten days will grow the frustration a little bit, but then will get away with it, get away from it for a couple of days, but I think they'll come back saying, look now we know, we know here's what we know.
We know we can play, we know that we can score goals, we know that we are a good team.
But we have to make sure that every game we play ninety minutes is completely focused and that we play to our potential, and that we don't shut off at anytime. Restarts, crosses, staying with your runners. So there's a valuable lesson in today's game, and there's now a valuable opportunity to get healthy and come back in ten days in Houston. I like the fact that it's a home game as well, so that closes out a three game homestand and hopefully then get three points.
Well, Keey Ryan are broadcast versus I wish we had a little bit more of vibes. Hey, Jordan Morris thirteen goals, that's great, And I think you know, as you just say right there, this team can learn from this. They can take this memory, they can drive it forward. So in the playoffs, when they're leading by one goal in the eighty ninth minutes, they will use this. They will use it as motivational. They'll use it in their core
memories and they will not let it happen again. So good that they got this out of the way now, I suppose, rather than the playoffs where they can learn from it and do better the next time. But unfortunately it is a two two draw for the Sounders fifth place still in the Western Conference. Ten day break now before Houston comes up here back at Loomin on September
twenty eighth, we'll talk to you then. We'll also have Sounders Weekly one week from tonight over on ninety three point three kJ FM, So we'll talk to you in one week regarding the Sounders in that. Have a good week, have a good weekend off everybody, and for right now, I want to thank all people with our broadcast tonight. Mitchell Bli back in the studio, as I mentioned, Keeley
