Welcome to the Sounders FC pre mat Show presented by Providence Swedish Tonight from the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumenfield, your Seattle Sounders FC based Houston Dynamo FC. Tonight's match is presented by Providence. The Provident Swedish premat show starts now.

Speaker 2

Well good evening from lumen Field where we've seen a lot of different kinds of weather and many different colored skies here tonight in Seattle. Currently the sun has set on the stadium, the lights are bright inside of lumen and after a weekend off, only four matches are left

in the regular season for your Seattle Sounders. They begin this busy three match in eight day stretch tonight here at Luminfield against the Houston Dynamo to begin this busy week So welcome to the Sounders FC pre match Show presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC, and Tonight's match is presented by Providence. Jackson Felts alongside the legend Brad and the coach Pete Fewing. We are here for the next half hour counting you down to kickoff.

Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani will have the call for Sounders and Dynamo. Gentlemen, we got to move on from that disappointing draw. You know, a week and a half ago against San Jose obviously difficult. You know that you didn't have a game right that weekend to instantly move on from it. But after four days of training, minds are moved on, Brad, and these guys are ready to begin a busy, busy week.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Look, the Sounders have been on a tear as of late. In that game, specifically against San Jose felt like a heartbreaker, right, It felt like a loss. And when I talk to friends and family, they're like, oh, the Sounders played ten days ago they lost, right, And I was like, no, they tied and it was a two tuo.

Speaker 5

But those are the ones that feel like a loss. And yeah, you're right.

Speaker 4

You want to get back on the horse immediately, of course you do. You want to revenge what you did wrong, but you know, the schedule is what the schedule is. And now the Sounders had ten days to kind of rest and relax and they get their legs underneath them, and now it's about getting a result against Houston.

Speaker 5

That is a beatable team tonight.

Speaker 4

When we'll talk about the lineups, there's a big, big advantage for the Sounders tonight to be flying in this one, especially at home fan appreciation night, and it's it's a good script for the Sounders to hopefully make the playoffs tonight.

Speaker 6

I've come to learn that you know when you when you give up a late goal, as we did with San Jose, and especially San Jose, you know they're out of the playoffs and so they're at the bottom of the table and you think this could be a great game to get a shut out and get three.

Speaker 7

Or four goals.

Speaker 6

But when you give up a goal and it's a tie, it's just it is like a loss, as you say, Jackson.

Speaker 7

But if it was the.

Speaker 6

Other way around, me score you know it's with a minute to go to tie the game up, then it feels like a victory.

Speaker 7

So but that was a deflating.

Speaker 6

Night for the Sounders because you look in the table and have they gotten three points on that one. We're ahead of Houston tonight instead of being one point behind them.

Speaker 7

So that was a tough one.

Speaker 6

Good that they get a little bit of time to reflect and now it's it's four games, two home, two away, and they've got to get this job done, and they're in a good position to secure a home field advance.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I really, I mean right now, you look at the standings above them, and then a top four seed is so important because if you don't know, MLS last year into a new playoffs structure where nine teams make

the playoffs from each conference. So it will happen is the eighth seed will play the nine seed in a play in game, and then it is the remaining eight one plays eight or nine two play seven, three, six, four, five, and the higher seed will host two of the three in the best of three series in the first round. From then on it is single elimination, but in that first round it is a best of three. So you want to have a top four seed to have those two of three home games there in that first round.

So that's why a top four seed is so very important. So with Houston right now sitting just above the Sounders, these are the fifth and sixth place teams respectively. Here in the Western Conference, three points tonight becomes a true six pointer, where three for the Sounders is a minus three for Houston and the other way around. Equally the same. Let's check in now on what brunch Answer is doing tonight, Pete viewing. What is Brian's delta starting eleven for his Sounders.

Speaker 6

Well, Sander fans know this lineup pretty well. Let's fry in goal. Alex rolled On you're right back, knew who you're left back? Gomez Androti and Reagan your center backs. Christian rolled On Vargas will sit in the middle of the park. Dalea Vega on the right, Rothrock on the left. Rusnik will sit under the loan striker Mercer Island kid Jordan Morris.

Speaker 2

And very quickly we'll dive into the Providence Speach team health report, which is presented of course by Providence Sweet just the official healthy there. Partner of Sounders FC Juelpoulo is still out with his calf injury Schmeitzer. When Brian made his appearance on Sports Radio KJR with around Dave Softy Maller and Dick Fane earlier this week, he was sounded a little more optimistic about due Apolo sounds like he could be back maybe sooner, you know, maybe even

factoring into the Colorado match one week from tonight. So we'll see about that two players questionable tonight, Rol rued he has with his knee injury, Leo Chew with an illness. So that was the team health report. But Brad, in terms of what we do have on the field, it is the same as San Jose. What stands out about what Brian's doing tonight on the field.

Speaker 4

Look what work for Brian in the San Jose game with eleven starters, that they look like they were gonna get the job done, and the subs came a bit too early in that game. I think I think we got a little bit confident, and any time you play against a desperate team, they're gonna throw everything they can because well, I've never not made the playoffs, but I can imagine that. If you're a player, you're you're fighting for a contract. At that point, you're trying to ruin

someone's day. At the end of the day, Right, you want to spoil the party, go away from home, show that you deserve to get your option picked up because there's nothing else left to fight for except for pride at that point and money. Right, you want your contract to be picked up, and you don't want to move your family, so all these things get into your head and on the flip side, the Sounders are thinking, oh man, we're playing against a team that's not in the playoffs.

They're just gonna roll over and they're you know, that doesn't happen in the league anymore, and we haven't seen that for some time. So Sounders got a little bit of ahead of themselves. Now it's the same exact lineup, Okay, go put the pedal to the metal, missing a couple players, and like you said, it's a six point swing. Every team we play now is right near us.

Speaker 2

Right.

Speaker 4

We got Houston, Vancouver, Colorado, and we have Portland at home to finish the season. So if you don't pick up two or three wins, you will find yourself on the outside looking in on a home field advantage spot. And that's not where the Sounders want to be in a three game series.

Speaker 6

I think they have a clear picture of what they missed in that San Jose game. I think it was the message was delivered after the game on what needs to happen. And so he may, Brian may you know, now we got a Wednesday game, right, we don't have the ten day luxury, but he may stick with this lineup a little bit longer. But I think he made it really clear to those who came on the field that you have a job to do and you've got

to close it out. And he trusts those players. But I think with you and I Jackson a post game, we talked about it. You know, he trusts the players, but if they don't do the job, then the dress level goes down a little bit. And there's enough tough players in this starting a love that can go ninety minutes, and.

Speaker 7

He may rely on that.

Speaker 6

And Brian, you know, he has used a lot of players throughout his career in games. He's not you know, that old school guy that uses twelve or thirteen. He'll he'll give guys their chances. But at this point in the season, some of the guys that maybe went onto that field and didn't preserve the two to one lead, they.

Speaker 7

Might not be getting that opportunity again tonight.

Speaker 2

They might That was the uniqueness of the situation against San Jose was was the two players. I mean, Christian losty Bobase on the run and then Alex lost to his man who eventually scored the goal for San Jose. So when was the last time we saw the roll Don brothers being those two guys, so the trust certainly for them is there, as we see again here tonight. But yeah, tough moment that the Sounders defensively weren't able to close that out and it was a two to

two against San Jose. One of those defenders was, of course, Jackson Reagan, and he has been I think, really really good off on the offensive end this year. I think he's improved on the defensive end as the year has gone on, and with his improvement, he has earned himself a new contract extension. If you haven't heard, he has been extended through the twenty twenty seven season with a

club option for twenty twenty eight. We were talking to Brian yesterday and he was saying, you know what, years ago, many many years ago, when Jackson was just kind of spending a little time here and there, he was kind of more of an awkward player. But he has grown so much into what Brian said is a polished player, so much improved defensively and has even more room to grow. And that Brad a well deserved new contract there for Jackson Reagan.

Speaker 4

Yeah, these don't come along very often, and it's always good to see a player like that rewarded for his efforts. Right, he's a local kid and he's put in the work, he's put in the time, and there were questions asked of him. You know, every young player has questions. We're asking questions about Pedro de la Vega, right, and all the youngsters that are on the on the roster. But he's proven himself week in week out. He's gotten praise

from other pundits around the league as well. And yes, when you get on the offensive side of things, it end to work out. I'll give you an example with the national team. I was out of contract with Nike and Adidas. I was playing every World Cup qualifier, nothing, nothing, nothing, went down to Jamaica, scored a goal, and all of a sudden, Nike and Adidas offered me a contract as a right back to where their brand right. And so it is about putting the ball in the back of

the net. Yes, you keep it to zero, but if you can add that attacking piece, it just elevates you to the next level. The team can say, if we're going to get five goals out of a center back, six goals every single year. That's the difference between finishing fourth and finishing eighth, seventh, eighth in.

Speaker 5

The playoffs standings. Right, that's the reality of it.

Speaker 4

And so for Jackson, I mean, a huge, huge round of applause has to be given to him because he has been so so good and we've seen his mistakes, but I think that he has gotten rid of a lot of those mistakes and that's just maturing as a player.

And you can imagine in three or four years as he progresses and matures and gets more coaching and gets you know, the diet dial in everything, he's going to become, you know, one of those Sounders legends, you know, like a Chad Marshall, John Kennedy, all these guys that have played so well for in the back for us.

Speaker 7

Yeah, it's fun to see.

Speaker 6

I remember seeing him at lower Woodland playing for Seattle United with Rothrock and a bunch of kids on that team that went on and played college soccer and Jimmy McAllister is their directors at the game sand these kids, these kids got a shot at.

Speaker 7

Playing at the highest level.

Speaker 6

And to see him get that and then you know, Brad, I'm sure you've had a three year contract. That's a nice long extended period and a real vote of confidence. I know his salary went up significantly and that also feels great, So there's some security that comes with that. And to your point, three goals one assist this year is very good. If he can get to that five, six, seven that Chad Marshall is. He knows this right, he's the comparisons of what he could be and Chad Marshall

is the benchmark. But I think this opportunity now, now he doesn't have to worry about am I going to get a contract extension?

Speaker 7

Is it going to be two years? Is it gonna be three? Is it gonna be one?

Speaker 6

You know, he and gomez Andrati have been a really good pair and I like the goals that he a score. It's directional heading, yes, yeah, and some of them he's been in the right place at the right time, yes, his directional heading. Defensively, I mean, he's really really talented

and they read each other really well. This is before your guys time, but we had Mike England and Dave Gillett in the early Sounder days and they were a tremendous pair and they were very in sync all the time, and you'd love it and they'd go forward on a corner kick and they would be bolting back and everybody loves seeing these two long legged, tall guys booking to get back in a position and it elevated the whole team.

So I'm excited for Jackson to see where he goes now that he's got a little bit of confidence from a new contract with some time under his belt.

Speaker 5

Well, I went into the locker room before the game.

Speaker 4

Do you ask me for money? And no, I said, He said, Jackson, you're walking with a little limp today. I was like what, And I was like, well, you're back right. What's in your wallet today? If they're coming on the moon?

Speaker 5

He's being waid back and laid down by that big new contract. He's laughed it off.

Speaker 4

But you know, like Pete said, you put in the hard work, you get and you put the ball in the back of the net.

Speaker 5

Likewise, you get rewarded.

Speaker 4

Every position is the same, and you like to see local guys get their chance, get their opportunity to try and make a name for themselves in their city where they're from.

Speaker 5

That is pretty cool. It doesn't happen that often.

Speaker 2

Well, you know, relating to him to today's game. One of the things that Brian Spencer was saying yesterday is his ability to head the ball is great on the offensive in that directional you know, ability is something he didn't have in his bag last year. But specifically against Houston, a to who loves to possess the ball, which we're

going to talk about here in a few minutes. His ability on long balls to head something down and create and keep possessions for the Sounders against a heavy possession team, the highest possession team in all of Major League Soccer, that is going to be a key today. So with that, Zeen, it's time to take a look at the Houston Dynamo. We will get to our sharp vision upon an allot here in our next segment. I'll quickly tell you that we are just about twenty five minutes away drum kick

here at Edmond Queen Casino Pitch at Lumenfield. Today's cat down to kick off has been presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. We'll have more next here before Sounders Dynamo. Here's kickoff soon on Sports Radio

ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back to Lumenfield and our provident Swedish prematch show ahead of Sounders and the Houston Dynamo kicking off in just about twenty minutes here on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, Jackson Feltz, Brad Evans p feeing here on the pre match show, and it's time for tonight's Sharp Vision opponent ALC taking a look at the visiting Houston Dynamo. Of course, our opponent Alex are presented by Sharp Vision with Martin Leason Lens,

the official LASA provider of Sounders. Fc SO Seattle Houston a bit similar in this sense, Houston thirteen to nine to eight, Seattle thirteen eight nine. Houston has forty eight points, Seattle forty seven points. The two of course, as we mentioned the last segment, fifth and sixth place in the Western Conference, each with four matches remaining. That really sees. I mean, there's seven points that divide second place RSL with fifty one in eighth place Portland with forty four.

So all of those teams twelve points on the table. It is going to be a crazy, crazy month ahead as we end out the regular season. Also, the similarities continue for them forty three goals scored, Seattle forty five defensively, Seattle has thirty four goals conceded, Houston thirty three goals conceded.

That's least in the Western Conference. These are a little bit similar teams, Bradford, just from those statistics, but we know that they are, as you mentioned the previous segment, missing a piece today that could give the Sounder as an upper hand.

Speaker 4

Yeah, they're missing a couple of pieces tonight and I think the Sounders have to take advantage of that. You just reflect on the time that you were a player at home playoffs were coming up. This was always that time where you kind of dialed up things just a little bit so that are you playoff ready? You know it now, so that when playoffs come you're not surprised by the competition. You don't want to limp into the

playoffs either. You want to go in confident. You want to get your best players scoring, and like you said, very even teams.

Speaker 5

Both play a four to two three one.

Speaker 4

I think rus Knak and Bossi are similar number tens and how they play that the structure of how they play.

Speaker 5

Is very similar.

Speaker 4

You know, they're well coached and they've gotten results this year, but they've been a little bit inconsistent at times, and I think that the Sounders have to take advantage of that. If this game was in Houston, I'd be thinking a little bit different, even though we did pick up a good result in Houston. This is the opportunity for the Sounders get to fifty points and then the last three games sets you up for some success moving forward. No Hector Herrera, no Ponce. I mean, you can't ask for

a better setting than that. Yeah, this team reminds me of the old Dominic canear days.

Speaker 6

Ben Olsen is a grinder right, and he demands a lot out of his players, so they're very workmen like. They do keep a really good possession of the ball, but they don't keep possession of the ball as Stephen Fry said, to get points for passes. So their quality with their possession and they move the ball forward. They also are balanced in their scoring. They don't have a Jordan Morris with thirteen, Ruy Diaz with nine. They've got a bunch of guys. They've got two defenders in the

back line. They've got five goals between Escobar and Dorsey, and they've got five assists. So set pieces are important to this team as well. It's a pretty balanced squad. But which to your point, you know, Jackson goals four goals against for both teams, records for both teams. It's pretty close, but the favor tilts our way. When you see that they're missing a couple of key players.

Speaker 2

Yeah, Hector Herrera being kind of the really big latest one there. And also to know m Karski, you're probably gonna hear name a couple of times. Really good season, talented player Coco Karaskia three goals, five assists this year, Sebastian Ferreira, who usually comes off the bench, he's starting, and I also as five goals, three assists. They have some quality on that team that can make it a challenge for Seattle tonight. But I will quickly mention that

this is an interesting stat here. You look at their recent run since July fourth, they only have one loss in MLS regular season action. Of course, they went through Leagu's Cup, but they were coming off of a one to nothing win down in Austin, Texas last Saturday. They played last weekend. They're in this crazy stretch right now where they have four matches in fourteen days. This is the fourth in this fourteenth day and that is a busy,

busy stretch. Whereas the Sounders right now they had the weekend off, so we'll see how that plays into it as well. We'll take a break here on the pre match show. We'll come back and give you our players to watch and a history against Houston. It is a very very good history. We'll definitely be wanting to knock on woods we read those numbers. We'll also give those players to watch. That comes up next, as we're just about fifteen minutes away from kickoff Sounders and Houston Dynamo.

It'll be right here on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 2

Welcome back to Luminfield and our providence. We just Braymad show ahead of Sounders and the huston In Dynamo. We've given you the breakdown of the Houston Dynamoe. We've given you a breakdown of what Brian Schench is doing with his starting eleven today. So with that said, it's time to take a look at our Sounders players to watch tonight and who is Pete and Brad's picks to do well here against Houston.

Speaker 5

Brad'll start with you, Albert Rusnak for me tonight.

Speaker 4

I think you know he's come into his own as the second half of this season and really been that pivot for us.

Speaker 5

And like I said before, he's he's similar to Bassi and his size and how he moves.

Speaker 4

Now can he continue to create and push this team into the playoffs? The Sounders are gonna make the playoffs. Yes, you want to be in the best position possible, but you need your best players to be playing their best also at the same time. And you know, whether you come in fifth, sixth, seventh, you still have to have your best players playing well. And things can happen on the field where you can see the silly goal or a PK and you lose tight games one nothing, but

those guys still may have played a good game. So you need Albert to play a good game. He's got to be that pivot in the midfield.

Speaker 5

The lynch pin is him. He's the release.

Speaker 4

When Christian picks up the ball and Obed pick up the ball, the first thought is how do I get it to Albert? And then Albert has to be that piano player. Everyone else carries the piano off. The Sounders go to me.

Speaker 6

It's for me, it's Alex oll Don because you know, he was so distraught after the game last week when Murray got in behind him or got to the ball ahead of him for the tying goal for San Jose. And to Brad's point right there, I think your players, your big time players, have to step up. Alex so far this year one goal, one assist. I think after last performance with San Jose, I think he needs to get going a little bit more. And I think there's

a couple of players. I'd almost put Christian on that list. It is Seattle University night tonight. We got a bunch of people here are President Penelver's here, and we got a lot of fans here tonight.

Speaker 7

But that's not the reason.

Speaker 2

To me.

Speaker 7

I want to see Alex oil Don be a real threat going down that right hand side.

Speaker 2

I love it. I'm going Pedro dal la Vega, you know him getting I think now finally can consistent starts. He's been consistently healthy. We're going to see the consistency in the minutes going up and up and up, I think, and as we're seeing him continue to do that, it's been such a work in progress and it's pretty obvious. I mean he's continuing to press and trying to get the absolute most.

Speaker 5

If he just plays within.

Speaker 2

Himself, I think he's just so immensely talented. You know, he doesn't need to push, push, push, He can settle and play within his own self, which again it's just it's so good. We can see Pedro de la Vega be the player that we all think he can be. He just hasn't had enough time, I think, to play within and kind of get his legs under him while healthy and also just learn his teammates. So hopefully with this consistent time getting the start again today we see

that from Pedro de la Vega. I want to quickly teverybody the history against Houston before.

Speaker 5

We take a break.

Speaker 2

It's a very very good history, specifically here a lumin Field. Overall, we faced Houston twenty seven times in the MLS regular season. We have a gray mark of fifteen weeks, five losses and seven draws. The teams have played to of course, to a two to two draw down in Houston back in June, which was a great second half comeback, the goals from Jackson Reagan and Paul Rothrock each scoring in

that second half. But we'll mention statistically wise, over this whole series of twenty seven games, Sounders have not ever lost to the Houston Dynamo here at lumin Field knock on wood as I say that eleven zero to two against Houston here also since October twenty twenty one. Sounders have also not lost four to oh to one in the last five since October twenty twenty one and again knock on wood. But again very good recent history against

the Houston Dynamo. In a situation where the Sounders are back one point of the Dynamo fifth play sixth place, need those stats to continue tonight with a good mark and a good result against the Dynamo. We'll say one more break here in the prematch show. We'll come back with our keys to the match here as it's Sounders and Dynamo here kickoff t about ten minutes away right here on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Just had a nice embrace there with Brian Schweitzer. As we are just about well less than ten minutes away from kickoff here at Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Luminfield, then it's kind of on a kickoff has been presented by Emerald Queen Casino,

the entertainment capital of the Northwest. Also, Sounder fans down the the McDonald's app today and when the Sounders win, you'll win a free mix chick in the following day with minimum two dollars purchase exclusively in the app. Let's get to some keys to the matches at Sounders Houston Dynamo Here in a few minutes.

Speaker 4

Brad, what are your keys to this match? I think off to a fast start in these games. Like you said, the record against Houston, I always had fond memories. I didn't know that that was the record against Houston. I just remember getting good results against them and putting them in their place. So the Sounders have to get off to a hot start today and that's in the first fifteen minutes and really put the pressure on Houston away from home to make them try and make the game.

But I think you pressure them from the start, put their center backs under pressure, and ultimately you got to put the ball in the back of the net. And that's the key for me tonight as a Sounders play at home.

Speaker 6

Yeah, and I think the fact they're coming off four games in fourteen days, we're coming off the long stretch of arrest after a very frustrating tie with San Jose.

Speaker 7

So I agree fast, fast start.

Speaker 6

Change the point of attack, get the flanks involved, get Paul Rothrock involved on one side, make sure that he's getting on the end of crosses de le Vega on the other side. Restarts I think are going to be important, and that you can't switch off cannot switch off.

Speaker 7

Not during the run of play. It's certainly not during restarts.

Speaker 6

I think that caused has killed us last last game with San Jose, So ninety minutes of focus. But again to Brad's point, start strong, start quick, be sharp, don't let them think they're going to get involved in this game.

Speaker 2

Well, gentlemen, this is the final month of the final game of the month of September, which is also Childhood Cancer Awareness month. We talked at length in the previous you know prematch show ahead of San Jose, but I want to quickly mention it again here as we see Brian Schmitzer and hands down there getting ready for this game between the Houston. He's wearing his gold size as he wears a gold sie for all matches in the month of September to show his support for childhood cancer awareness.

As we mentioned a week ago, Stars Fighting Cancer dot Com is an awesome website to the Sounders players all helped put forth and then you know, great work done at Stars Fighting Cancer dot comword you can go get Sounders gear that you're gonna buy anyway, and it's autographed

by players. It's it's sometimes done by Stephen Fry does glassy Babies that you can see on there, really cool whiskey glasses that you can get that Stephen Fry is a hand in and you know, all of that gear that you're can get away also can go and help kick childhood cancer. It's a great thing to do here in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Great to see Brian participating in showing his support and Brad, I know, we had a friend who was here just a few minutes ago as well.

Speaker 4

Yeah, nine year old Avery came out Seattle United player and he is a huge Sounders fan and he's in his own battle right now, but he's signed a first team contract today.

Speaker 5

His name was up. He was going to take the penalties today. He had his locker room set up.

Speaker 4

Jersey Raoul Rie Diez his favorite player, and we got to take some pks with him on the field, tour the whole stadium and just put a smile on and everyone listening just send the best vibes that you can in good energy Avery's way and the battle continues and we're all just you know, happy to help bring a smile at the end of the day.

Speaker 5

And we got to kick this thing.

Speaker 6

I think it's a great thing it's such you can see the whole family. The whole family was enjoying their visit today, and Ryan Schpetzer does a great job of making that a fun experience for a kid. Like we said last week, give him a break from some of the serious issues that they're dealing with and bring some joy to him. That's why sports are so good.

Speaker 2

Sports are great, and you would be great to bring a win here for Avery and bring it, bring a win for all Sounders fans. As the boom moveing clap fills the building, the fireworks smug. It's quite an atmosphere here is The lights have been dimmed and we see blinking blue and green lights as the players are walking out. Sounders of course will be in their legacy green tops and the aqua blue shorts and Houston and they're all purple.

Tonight for this matches roll Montres joining the Boom Boom cleft in a big match tonight between your Seattle Sounders and the Houston Dynamo again to set the stakes for this one. Seattle fifth place in the Western Conference right now sixth place, excuse me, Houston at fifth place. These two teams are divided by just one point. Both of them four matches left in the regular season Houston thirteen

to nine and eight, Seattle thirteen eight and nine. You know, we look at the situation where the Sounders looking to continue to get as many points as possible to get a top four seed in the Western Conference because that first round of the playoffs. Yeah, if you're a top four seed, you are hosting two of those first three in that best of three series. So we want two of those three here at home at Womenfield to see these light shows in the months of October and November.

But we cannot let what happened against San Jose a week and a half ago happen again where you're leading late and then a late switch off defensively and it is a goal for the visitors that led to a drop in two points for the Sounders. That can't happen again. It's gotta be three tonight here at Lumen Field. So we will step aside. We will bring in Danny Jackson and Steve Zachwani. They will have the call tonight for Sounders and Dynamo being back for the halftime show. Were

hopefully we're talking about a Sounders lead. We'll step aside. Danny Steve have the call Sounders Dynamo. It kicks off next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1

Welcome to Sounders FC Sucker Tonight from the Emerald Queen Casino Bitch at lumen Field, your Seattle Sounders FC base Houston Dynamo.

Speaker 2

FC.

Speaker 1

Tonight's match is presented by Providence Sounders. FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders EFC. Regent's Dream Team is presented by Regent's Blue Shield from the partner of Sounders FC. Now time for Sounders FC Sucker.

Speaker 11

Good evening from eke UC pitch at lumin Field on this Ben Appreciation night, where your Sounders take on Western Conference rival Houston Dynamo. We have reached the home stretch of the regular season and there is all to play for in these final four games. Houston sitting in fifth

position and within striking distance of the Sounders. The top four have home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, and a point here, a mistake there, a last minute goal can be all the difference to the Sounders. They're exactly where they want to be and where they are most comfortable fighting at the very top of the Western Conference standings. They're just five points away from second place, but still only five points clear of ninth with two

away games sandwich between two home games. Earning maximum points in front. That Sounders faithful is going to be vital in this very tight run in Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders winger Steve zac Quhaney for the call tonight here in the booth and this players get ready to kick off. We'll get you the delting starting eleven for your Sounders.

No change from last week. Stephen Fryan gol back Forth rolled on yeaymar Reagan Knew who rolled on alongside Vargas in the middle of the park, Petro de la Vega, Albert Rosneck and Rothrock and then Jordan Morris up front of the referee getters going the fire behind the goals lights up. It's been a boisious crowd so far. Ramon Torres got presented at the beginning of the game as part of the fiftieth anniversary celebration the alumni of the match.

Big huge row for Roman. Of course, we'll go down in Soundest history of scoring that decisive goal back in twenty sixteen in Toronto to win the first MLS Cup for the Sounders. Let's Houston, get us going here, and Steve as we get built up here, let's get your first thoughts. Big game for the Sounders. Two remaining home games before the end of the season. Vital to get a good performance tonight.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and I think you've said it in your opening there, Danny. I mean you don't get many more chances to build momentum and find your best form heading into the postseason.

Speaker 11

It comes Ferrera down that left hand side. We'll get back to you, Steve in a moment as Alex Roldan picks up the loose board, knocks it down the line to Jordan Morris. Two goals against San Jose pulled this total for regular season to sep thirteen goals, seventeen goals in all competitions, and that superseeds. He's twenty sixteen regular season goal Telly of twelve to see. We'll get back to you.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and I think you For the Sounders, it's about momentum. You know you're You're not a club that just wants to squeeze into the playoffs. It's about seeding. Second place is still in sight, I would say third place is absolutely realistic. So if you're the Sounders for the up and down year you've had, you want to be playing your absolute best football as you approach the end October in this part of the year.

Speaker 12

And Houston is a playoff team. This is a very very good team.

Speaker 3

Ben Elsin's done a fantastic job, and so it's one of those teams want to test this off against and see where we really stack up, and you want to give the fans a great night on fine appreciation night.

Speaker 11

Paul goes down line by dors You will get you the lineup for Houston just a moment. It's Kavalcic knocks the ball in, picked up by Dorsey, cuts strike, picked up well by Freud, goes down for the second attempt. Sound has clear the lines, but it shows the threat of Houston. Certainly. I haven't scored a ton of goals this season, have been very good defensively, but it's all

about possession when it comes to Houston. As svet Schenka comes in top of the box, his bassic good block by Vargas at the top of the box, but it's gonna be a first corner kick for Houston, and.

Speaker 3

I think going into the game, having a quick chat with Schmidt's on the bench, joined a warm up as I typically do, he expected used to come out and play. It's not a team that's really gonna come back and just sit and absorb like we've seen teams do so many times over the years and coming here to Seattle. So expect a team that's gonna come out triangle toll to toll, and le' see how the Sounds respond to that sort of approach from an awaiting Houston.

Speaker 11

Five games, unbeaten, three wins, two ties, they're coming into form of the right part of the season, and they have a corner kick on this near side the right with BARSI he's gonna curl it in with his right foot, easily collected by Stephen Fry, decked out all yellow tonight, the Sounders in their anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts, white socks. Ball launch long by Fry picked her well by our tour, giving away almost by the Houston back

line from advantage point. It looked like the ball went out of bounce and did not sit a referee right there, did not give anything good turn out of pressure by Kaskia who did not play in the first game between the Sounders and Houston due to international duty Copra Americas.

Let's get you Ben Olsen's lineup. Steve Clark can go all the back, fourth Dorsy, Savetchenko, Michel and Escobar Kaskia alongside our tour in the middle of the park Cavalcicic, Barsi and Ali Yu and then Sebassian for era up front. Number of players big time players missing for Houston tonight. One of them big ponce there, big time signing. We'll talk about him as the night goes on. He was

the biggest transfer in history for Houston. Came in for eighty k Athens scored three goals already since his introduction to the squad in the summer. Hector Herrera as well, missing tonight, you know for a little while now with an injury. Sounders cleared the ball in the far side the right. Houston in there or purple kit tonight attacking the goal to our right the south end. Sounders to mention in their anniversary kit, attacking the north end the

goal to our left. Houston have it throwing fast side, good closing out by Delevat and he needs to build those Miles. Here comes Jordan Morris looking for a foul by the referee. Alan Chaman gives nothing. We're pretty obvious from Apavanti's points like tugger the shirt on Jordan Morris.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it was in I think without that select again, I can see why the ref didn't do it.

Speaker 12

You can call it smart defending.

Speaker 3

If the ref season listen, you possibly won't even go into the book, but pulls it off very well.

Speaker 12

But I like it from the Sounding.

Speaker 3

You're gonna have times today where you maybe don't have the board as much as it used to at home.

Speaker 12

Can you play in transition? Can you get out there?

Speaker 3

Because all year long week wing for the sound is to maybe very up the playing style a little bit. And some of the very best football we've seen this season has come when the Sounders have had to go directly in transition, using the pace off Jordan Morrison behind.

Speaker 11

It's use in building out of the back and some big news from Keeley Dunning here and my ear pieces, the Sounders have actually clinched a playoff spot. We'll get that into one moment. That's based on results going on around the league. Sounders knew that if they came into today's game. Getting a win after tonight that would put them automatically in the playoffs. But it comes out of your left corner of the box, cuts in a preferred right foot, good block by rolled down and Chapman referee

puts the whistle. Trew's mouth fell, there's a handball and lu from that deflection, it's gonna be a free kick from the Sounders. So let's just get you the case scenario coming in. If the Sounders won well Houston Dynamo against tonight, that would put them in it. Sounders FC were to tie tonight and FC Dallas were to lose

or draw versus Orlando, that would put them in. Well Dallas went down at home against Orlando, and then the third case scenarios a Dallas loss and there was gonna be either an Austin FC loss or draw versus RSL that would put them in as well. And Austin got a two to two draw with Dallas. So before the kickoff, the Sounders found themselves in the playoffs again, fifteen out of the last sixteen years, and that's an expansion side record.

Congratulations de Bruyn Schwetzer knows men. But from the players wouldn't have known that bit of news coming out of the gates and Steve, you know, sometimes you don't want to hear that noise. You want to just know that you've got to get a job done. Let's get a result tonight.

Speaker 12

Yeah.

Speaker 3

I think the message in all week has been just when, and that should have changed what it sounds again, You're not a club here.

Speaker 12

We're simply happy with making the poleseason.

Speaker 3

You want to get in there, you want to make noise, and most importantly, really you want to be playing your very best football heading into the pole season.

Speaker 11

Flicked on by Morris, cleared by zavik Chenka, picked up by Jackson. Reg and congratulations to Jackson announced this week that he signed a new long term contract with the Sounders. So another homegrown boy does good. Played in the collegiate ranks, of course, in Michigan, earned this opportunity here, has picked up that opportunity well, gets his long term contract richly deserved by Jackson. Reg and the Sounders have it. Fifteen yards or so from the corner flag, the Sounders far side.

They're right, it's gonna be Alex Roldan. It's just going to wind this one up talking to some of the folks that practice this week, the Sounders feel like they can do better from throwings in these areas, and they

played short this time to Vargas. Of course, let's not forget almost a year ago with a ball throwing went into Alex roll down, flicked on by a ten as soon as I should, rolled on and smashed it past the LA Galaxy to clinch the playoffs last year in that case scenario, and this time the Sounds, I've already

done that based on the results around the league. You see getting home tie of course top four after the eighth ninth playoff game, and in that home tie, the best of three in that first round is to be vital.

Speaker 3

It becomes about that dispointing for the Sounds because and you caneto the playoff as an April nine.

Speaker 12

See, you don't want to play that world card what why off game?

Speaker 3

You want to be as much as possible in control of your own destiny. And I think we know in this league historically home teams tend to fare better. So it's about finishing as high as possible for you're.

Speaker 11

The Sounderskvalkereski rolls its square to this near sighted Dorsey advancement right back spot, good cross by Dorsey headed cleared by Yama, picked up by svit Schenko. Big powerful player, central defender alongside McHale. As we talked about, it's all about possession for Houston lead the MLS with close sixty percent possession game over game sounders under Brian Schmittz always looking for that fifty five percent possession mark. They've done

that most times playing at home. Houston have done it home and away, and we'll get to Houston's record away from home. It's pretty impressive. As Dorst drives forward, plays the ball into Ferrera DP signing picked up by our tour. Has been a ever present in the es central area of the field for Houston in years past. Sits alongside Kareraskier.

Good flick around the corner by rolled down given away picked up by Cavalcich top of the box towards his left foot, drives it good block by combination of Yamar and Vargas. Anymore plays his lines from the end line finds Dela Vega. You'll turn out of pressure. It'll drop off to Vargas to clicks it down the line far side the right, flicking side by where is that given away,

picked up by Kerski. Good open game so far. The ball gets flicked in good tracking by Chris Alex, rolled on, picked up by Vargas on that headed clearance, and there's a kick out by Karaskia. We'll see what Alan Chapman does there. Then of course sees that pot.

Speaker 3

And I don't know why Vargas is dribbling towards his on bold twenty yards or sold just a plant bit of pressure and yet be and also was not happy with that as well, because he obviously his team's very aggressive.

Speaker 12

He tried to regain the ball back quickly. But that was said.

Speaker 11

The question said, is Jordan Rice down the left hand side ten yards in the nline, just dropped his shoulders, left foot, wix it in towards the backstick, fine grows that puts it down brilliantly. Strike by Dalla Vega, the flex off Escobar and it's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounder's. Good incisive play by the.

Speaker 3

Sounders, but again it's direct, nothing fancy about that. Yeah, Mark Pritz's head up, Jordan's making a run ahead of the place and great passing behind and I like that. In the end, you had both Rusnack and de la Vega trying to get into the box. And it's not for the Sundons to just be a direct team, but you do that to see that element of the game being added.

Speaker 12

As a season has but one, Sounders.

Speaker 11

Are looking more dangerous. Came by game from set pieces. This time it's gonna be a corner kick on the Sounders right Growsacks have put it in in the swinger, all bounced around the top of the box stripe by Alex Sworld on scuff say shot that was on the right side of the eighteen. It's going to go out for a thrown on this near side the left, so well exactly what Alex was planning for. We've known his abilities strike a good.

Speaker 3

Ball and he's one of the players that you don't mind that popping out to. I think if you're going through the team, he's in the top three or four. Absolutely, but scuffed it quite horribly wrong and the Indiana goes out for our throne.

Speaker 12

But good response save by the Sounders.

Speaker 3

I think Houston's coming early have made it pretty clear how they want to play. Dictate the temple, control possession, get the ball out wide and that just means they get so many numbers four and the moment you win it, there's so much spacing behind. And it's good to see the Sounders, at least early on, trying to turn Houston's back line facing towards their own bold, so very nice open game.

Speaker 12

In his opening eleven twelve minutes.

Speaker 11

Houston sixty already on possession of falling into the way of playing Sounders just going to hold their line of confrontation ten yards or so inside Houston's half. They as they build out of the back well. Joy's match is presented by Providence. You get here in the twelfth minute clip down the line by Houston Sounders nil Houston Dynamo nil.

Sounders are playing teams all around them in the next four games Wednesday on the road to Vancouver, then up on the road to Colorado, and then a couple of weeks off before they played Decision Day here at October nineteenth against Portland. Do not miss that one. That is going to be a barn stormer of a game, And if you have been living somewhere much different the Pacific Northwest, fully understand how big of a game that is, especially when there's all at stake. Sounds looking to try and

push themselves up the Western conference standings. He really kicked into gear. Since that maytime period where rests are lots hard to come by, lots of drawers here at Blumenfield got a good goods set of results at home since that May June time League's Cup they got a nice running as well. Down to LAFC, there'd be their nemesis. And when the Sounders just love to play LAFC in the playoffs to get one over them, there they come now, Balling behind towards Jordan. Maury is trying to shrug off

Schveetzchenk a good defending by Vig. Center back just shrugs off. Morris, cleared by Dorsey up into the night sky. Perfect night for a game of soccer tonight. Ball at the foot of rolled on Joyce fand de la Vega cleared well by Houston. Mckel got a little knock. He's falling to the ground top of the box. Kaval hasn't seen it now. The referee puts the whistle to his mouth. He's going to stop it. Kel lying on his back. Steve thirteen minutes in. Brian Schwetzer thinking so far about the game.

Speaker 12

Yeah, I think he's ready to be pleased.

Speaker 3

I think there's been a couple of little poor giveaways, you know, Christian or Dan trying to flake on the Albert Russ Knight in the wrong areas of the pitch. That won't make him too happy. But I think in general his team's responded well to Houston t that wants to can't make control possession. It's one of the most active that I've seen Jordan Morris. I mean, every time the board is picked up in the first two thirds, he's on his bike, he's making a run, he's trying

to get him behind. So because sometimes you'll see Jordan a bit more stagnant than I want him to be, he wanted to move to center backs into channels that I want to run into. He's been very active, So I think for Brian Schmetza there's of course two or three more gauge you assume this team can get into, but relatively good start in terms of at least trying to be direct and put the easton back line under pressure well.

Speaker 11

Sound as FC Socket is presented by Provident Swedish official health care partner Sounders FC as we look down kelcill On the ground, robbing the inside of his knee, seeing if the medical sapling some of those olomous checks on the knee to check ACLFCL. Brian Schwetz are just barking out some instructions sounders. As we said, they're buoyant and practice. They've had a couple of days after the ten days since that San Jose games, Brian Schmitzer allowed the team

to take some time to recoup. It's been a heavy load through the summer. Give him a chance to just kind of rest a leg, to get away for a few days, spend some time with family and friends. Some people went out of town, as Brian schmidz Ha talked about in the press, and now they're going to come back and be recharged, hopefully for this very important running. See. You know when you think about how things are going, is we look down at the standings. You know, LA

Galaxy number one right now fifty eight points. Want to turn around for the galaxy under great family. They've really turned things around.

Speaker 12

Yes they really have.

Speaker 3

But I think you made a point earlier where second place is not as out of reach as you're the ones for. Maybe you get a little too much out, but I feel this. If I'm in that sound as lock groom, I'm trying to get Ushighs the definitely top four. You want to try and show yourself of our home game at least here.

Speaker 12

And I think for the.

Speaker 3

Sounders, considering the season, they've had that dry stretch right before benning a decent run over the course of the late summer. I think if you told his team at that point will be third or fourth in the West and have taken it. But it really is setting up for a blockbuster showdown against the Timbers here and decision they will see where things land at that point. It's a short week for the Sounders here, three games in

the week. Can you leave it with six points? Seven points and really give yourself a great chance with destiny in your own hands on that last day.

Speaker 11

Used to building the other back well, the Volchich knocks it back to Escobar far side the left. Is Aliu, leading goal scorer for Houston this season with six goals, blessing five goals not in the squad tonight, missing as well. He got the two goals earlier in the season when the Sounders played to a two to two draw Reagan and roth Rock and IgE to get Sounders out of a two goal hold, all deserved draw there as roll Dance looks a little awkward dribbling out of the back

and she stumbled over. It came off the shin of l Eu. It was gonna be a Sounder's throw. But I think you'ston already showing just a ton of confidence building out of the back. We know what Houston could be sometimes that you know they could be so strong at home. Sometimes in the road they've being poor. But this year is the other way around five three and seven at home, eight five and two away from home.

Speaker 3

It is a tremendous away record in the league where it's so hard to win on the road. To have eight wins away from home, and you can see why they're brave, they're bold. A lot of credit has to be given to the manager, Ben Alison. I think for the Sounders, this is the kind of level you're gonna face from here on out, so you've got it's a great test to face a team like this.

Speaker 11

Great ball by rolled down left hand side is roth Ron. Now towards the end, ninety go is blocked out by Dorsey, rolled out by sevet Chenko to Keraskia, Kindamanian International, of course, success and Gold Cups played in Co Pro America all gets flipped out. Good delivery almost catches out Alex rolled on. I heard that you see was a good delivery by Sevet Check almost found Eli on the run.

Speaker 3

It's a great pass, Alex ochorisk is if that goes of your head as the defender, how you has or of fifty yards to himself to run into your soul.

Speaker 12

A very important touch by the Sounders right back, and a much needed one.

Speaker 11

Well this copyrighting audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Big news coming out of New York today the Club World Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup that we've all heard about. The venues were officially announced today. Seattle is one of those, and you think the people at FIFA do the smart thing. The

Sounders are in that tournament. If they can host and be a host club, it will certainly make a lot of sense. Can you imagine the type of teams coming in here in a competitive tournament environment, the first of its kind where you get clubs from all over the world. South America. Gus sent the likes of Fluminase a Boca River plate. You've got Chelsea, Man Unite, Man City by Munich, Barcelo and a realm of PSG your vents. It could be any brothers clubs playing here. As Dorsey picks up,

get your thoughts on that. In the moment, Steve that Dorsey rolls it back to sevet Schenko keeps possession of the Houston. You're gonna hill a lot of that to night. There's the team in purple attacking the goal to our right, have the ball in possession with kra Skia attacking third of the field. They are that sounds holding their line just a couple of yards outside their ey tenr box. Fight's bars. Who's been a revelation coming into this league.

Little chop ball towards Ferrera finds itself to the foot of Ali, who comes back from the left onto a preferred right, plays a square to Dorsey right corner of the box, clips to him with his left foot just skipped through and step front. Fry is able to pick it up here in the twentieth minute, Sounders nil Houston Nielsen exact one.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I think just to go quickly to a point there by the club or then I think what a great advertiser for what we know is coming in just a couple of years, say when the World Cup itself comes to this, you know, beautiful region. But I think for the Sounders, it's what just comes about you wanted. You wanted to be a glow Poy international club and ambitious club from day one.

Speaker 12

We've got a taste of it going to the Club World Club.

Speaker 3

Now to have it here in the States, with this placed being a venue, I mean, it would be pretty special. And we've seen some special nights in this building that would be up there for sure as well if it were to happen.

Speaker 11

Well, we're on Sports Radio ninety three point three KGRFM. Wherever you're listening to us, if it's SYNCD up with Apple, if it's at home, if it's in the car coming back from sports games around the region. Thanks for joining us, and certainly for not here tonight in person. Stop booking those tickets for next summer because the Sounders will be playing in that tournament. They could be playing some of these marquee names, both from a club standpoint, but it's

from a player standpoint. Can you imagine Bellingham Vinicius Junior Mbappe coming in for Real Madrid. It's certainly exciting to think about. But the Sounders have work to do domestically until that point. Four games to go. Sounders two at home, two away already clinch playoff position, as we mentioned earlier in the broadcast, due to results and Steve's that Quiney mentioned, we have the chance to jump up with the result tonight. If we get three points, we would leap frog into

fourth position where Colorado sit right now. We've matched their fifty points total, but we have a better goal difference, and Colorado lost three goals to nil today against Minnesota. The results are going in the right way for the Sounders. Can they get three points tonight to continue to push themselves up? So Michel plays it back to Clark in gold, dicked out in all blue pressure by Jordan Morris, building out the back confidence of Houston. Has Chenko clips it

down the line, pulled down by Ben Olsen. Great touches touch, so great legend of MLS United. It comes Rosnak and he finds a magic inside the box. He goes nudged off the ball head back of the netty goes fark Sports and the fans are on their feet. It's poor rough Rock. Put the sounders up here, alumin Field Sounders one Houston nil.

Speaker 3

And it's a very very good finish there by a rough Rock. I love the directness from Albert Russnak driving into.

Speaker 12

The air up. When you're positive, when you're brave, good things tend to happen. And that's exactly what the Sounds got there. And I think breaks the rough Rock.

Speaker 3

That is a great finish, that is not an easy finish at all first time, just uses the weight on the ball coming back to him, curls it around the goalkeep.

Speaker 12

Put into the far past, no chance for cluck at all, and the rough.

Speaker 3

Rock and continues to add to his growing legacy this incredible season. He's having some element of good fortune of how the board came to him, but make more mistake about the actual finish.

Speaker 12

Their fantastic goal Sounds up one note.

Speaker 11

Paul Rothrock scored back in June in the two to two tie me It's Houston. He gets his fourth goal of the regular season tonight, and he continues to build on a great foundation he's already had this year. Performances backed up by goals now from Paul Rothrock and the Sounders now inched ahead here in the twenty third minute, but Houston come forward quickly. Sounders may be careful. More goes out to Alau. Nothing up from the system referee. Looked like it was a yard or south side that

far side the left. He keeps playing with Kaski into our tour. They like to play connecting passes. This time it goes long, straight out, well read by nude how often headed down the line picked up by goal scorer Rothrock just drops his shoulder, just goes out of bounds on the halfway line on this near side. The system referees flight goes up. You know, you gotta think Rothrock.

Speaker 5

Of course.

Speaker 11

There's lots of press around this week with Jackson Reagan of course.

Speaker 5

And.

Speaker 11

You know he continues to do the business. Yes, he's been all over the press of the last couple of months just based on his performances. It's a great story, of course. Brian Schmetz has talked about it. Local kid, it's a grinder, found his opportunity, signed a contract last year coming out of performances at the US Open Cup and certainly established himself now was really in that starting level.

Speaker 3

He deserves it, and it's very unexpected in a sense of listen enjoying priests, and you would not have predicted that heading into October Paul Rothrock would be one of the absolute key guys on this team, minister attack with how talented this team is on paper.

Speaker 12

He's earned it.

Speaker 3

Tonight he does he shoulder you again, and it's a lot of the things he does off the board.

Speaker 12

It's his work.

Speaker 3

Asked Branch message the other day, just how is he in training? He never stops running. He's a kid who's hungry, still feels like he has a lot to prove, still has to earn it. Every week he goes out there. But he has not put a foot wrong. And I'm very happy to see that. Brian schmetz Up has given him that confidence. Not when he's had a couple of if he games here and there, which young players do,

and he wasn't yet from the lineup. He was allowed to make his mistakes, allowed to row, allowed to learn, and was starting to see him round back into his very best form.

Speaker 11

Free kick for Houston twenty five yards or so from Steph fan Fryar's goal left of center as a handball by ye Mars flicked up around the corner hit Yemo's hand. He felt like it was an inadvertent handball, but Alan Chapman gave the free kick. Chance now for Houston to test Stephan fry Sounders leading one nil here Ludment Field looks like it's going to be BASI kind of line this one up. Kreski having a word our tour. There's

a couple of steps away from the ball. It's like ali U and see Arsen is a escabar just standing in front of the Sounders wall, just trying to blind Steph fan Fryer's organizing his war. It come vass. He flicks up with the top Oh with the crossbow. It goes just what se I would have asked for. Go kick for the Sounders and they lead here one nil, and.

Speaker 12

Then I think it's a deserved lead.

Speaker 3

I think Houston came out early and it wasn't that they were threatening and all running the Sounders, which just you know, impressed by how brave they were, weren't afraid to play and trying to break the Sounders down, which you don't always see the away team do here at neum And Field. But the Sounders responded, well, hell they resolve. And it hasn't been a lights out attacking game from the sound Is either, but it has been. It's been steady, gotten better as the half has gone on, got the

timely goal when they needed it. And this is what it gets to at this stage of the season. You won't always be at your absolute, bralliant best. Can you grind out results? Can you find ways to be effective against teams that are just as good as you, sometimes better than you are? And I think branch Mets will learn a lot about his team collectively and a lot of the individuals there as we begin to now focus on what's guaranteed to be at least one playoff.

Speaker 11

Game that Sounders as a stand right now, as you mentioned, but ump into fifth spot right now, We'll see if that kind of inches up, We'll see how things get adjusted, all gets cleared by Houston sunder's doing their job right now. They didn't know coming out of the tunnel that the

Sounders had already clinched a playoff spot. All they knew from Brian Schwetzer in his pregame team talk was get a win and that would guarantee you Playoff Soccer for twenty twenty four, the fifteenth out the last sixteen seasons for the Sounders. Knew who rolls it out to this near sighted golf score. Paul Rothrock rolls it into Rosna, picks up the loose ball. Dorset goes in see if Chapman gives a yellow card. He does, and that's an SGB yellow card and the fowl is called SGB trial

lawyers were here to help. Is a SGV dash law dot com, Steve zac Quanni. That is exactly what you just talked about. Rothrock picked up a loose ball, made something out of nothing, got the free kick yellow card on Dorsey.

Speaker 3

It encapsulates in perfectly tressed find John Ross at the passes a sloppy pass on rough Frock gives it away, head doesn't go down, works to recovery. That's so draws a foul, regains a team an extra possession, and he's done that all year.

Speaker 11

It comes rolled on, clips toward the back stick. Ovega goes up far side. The Sounders right picked up one of the boxer rolled on, rolled it into Vargas are bouncing around. Rothrock is there again. Dorsey has it loll roll of the ball, he finds the foot of Escabar, clips it down the line, finds the foot of Pharaa. A good ball out of possession from Pharrera. When the Sounders pick it up in the second attempt, and who's just going to stride forward gets his, he'll clip by

Barsi right in the middle of the center circle. It's gonna be free kick for the Sounders well. September fifteenth. October fifteenth is LATINX Heritage Month. Support LATINX owned businesses throughout the month for a chance to win Sounders prizes. Visit intentionalist dot com to find a business near you. Twenty ninth minute here at EQC Pitch at Luminfield ninety three point three kg are FM Sounders leading one goal to nill against Houston. We're sitting just above them in

the standings coming into today's game. Sounders of leap frog Houston now and will continue to look to push themselves up the Western Conference standings. Four games to go for the Sounders mentioned just a few points away from seconds and that is in reach for sure. The game's remaining all Western Conference teams. The ball goes down the line, cut out well by Michel, but good positive joy forward by Bargas, and that's been the story of his season.

Is Marcus just feeling and playing just so much confidence, playing above and beyond his age, and he's been giving license to Rome now.

Speaker 3

By you also forget how young he still is because he just he belongs and listen. Jb remains an absolute integral part of this team. But the fact that his absence is it's not as profound as it was before his testament to one to how well Christian Dan has been.

Speaker 12

Playing in there.

Speaker 3

But Albin Ferguson, I mean he leaves and bounds has grown again this year. He's obviously getting some international exposure as well. And you just forget how young he is. That's the best common ract given.

Speaker 11

As rathat left hand side plays a lot of sex. Jordaan is just off the post to ride. What a chance, What a ball by Rothrock. He just shrugged off Dorsey who's sitting on a yellow card. He couldn't pull Rothrock down. Roth Rock on the bounce played the ball on the sixth Jordan Morris still just slow to get up, slides in, could have directed on goal. It's got to be a goal kick. But Steve Zac Corney. Another great play by Roth chance.

Speaker 3

Yeah, what's a pass from rough Rock there? He really only had the one option. It was Jordan who is up now. Good to see Morris up on his feet. But he has to play that pass to the back posse with the perfect weight and he did. He pulled it off tremendously. Jordan Morris gets there and he just he's almost too much on it because it seemed as if the goal was gaping. Plots beaten. Yeah, and Jordan gets and opens his body up a little too much. Just had to be a straight touch and again it's

not easy. He's reached any stretching, pissed the outside of the post rather than the inside of the post, and a chance scores begging for the Sounders. But once again rough Rock involved and he's been fantastic in his first half.

Speaker 11

Well, we mentioned Jordan Morris' thirteen goals and his year his regular season year seventeen more comp goals. But I think the thing about the Sounders is Jordan Morris. Steve is that people because sometimes Chirk about Morris, he should maybe scored goals. He's not clinically the eighteen yard box in that case, inside the six but he gets there and the Sounders are creating chances, and I think if the chances evaporated, that'd be more concerning for Brian it.

Speaker 3

Would be it would be And I think Jordan Morris consistently this year an era he's got really good at. He's putting himself in positions to have those chances. So it's the running. You've got to learn how to really be a true number nine. And he's learned that he has a natural fifth capabilities, their pace to get in behind and all of that. But it's the movement, it's

the positioning. The very best strike is in this league and in this world do so much of their work off the board, being an option for teammates, and I think Jordan Morris has added that to his game, to his repertoire as the season has gone on.

Speaker 12

And you're gonna miss chances.

Speaker 3

If you're gonna be up there as an attacking player, you've been there myself, you're gonna miss chances. The best thing to have is amnesia. You have to develop that scale where it's onto the next one. And that's exactly what Jordan. That chance has just missed. It's got to be gone from his mind, and the mentality is when the next one comes, my ways, what a great ones do? We saw clean, we saw old, but those kind of guys here they missed a lot of chances too.

Speaker 12

What we remember though is the ones that are put in the back of the net, and it's the same for Jordan.

Speaker 11

What they are Jordan is this passed now thirty games in regular season play, only the second time his crew has done that. So there was a time, of course, just a few years ago, where he'd be held out of games, body would be managed. But the resilience that he's shown this year in terms of being on the field being available, I think his goalscoring records certainly proved that he's found a way to stay on the field and performer a really high level.

Speaker 3

And he's had to because as the season's gone on, obviously diminishing returns from Rediaz who just haven't been able to get into the lineup for various reasons, and you don't really have too much depth beyond that. Jordan's had to play, and he's seen him in an Open Cup. He's played in every chance he's had got to play, he has and he's made a big difference.

Speaker 11

More often than not, all clipped him by Reagan. From the center, the park finds the head of well darn cushion header. It's the pather de la Vega inside the sex Us couldn't quite get that. John Morris was there. Top of the box, says Christian Waldo. Is left foot deflected by Dorsey corner kicks sounders here in the thirty fourth minute, sounders were on Houston Nill. This squad thing is presented by Providence, but Steven Zac Granny. The sounders are pushing for that second goal.

Speaker 3

And what's a move that deserved the boat and the second goal? It feels like it's coming the off the ball running the third man running by then a Vega was so good and I wasn't sure if Albert russ Knack saw him, But who am I to question? Albert Usna he saw him, places a great ball into his path and the l a Vegas unlucky beast the goalkeeper. It's good defending kid off the line when the sound is pushing him.

Speaker 11

Second goal for the sound is ripped him by Ruzneck, punched away by Clark Good, punched straight by new card it Well speculative in thirty five yards goes wide goal kick Houston, but I don't know Welsh Medzer probably just it's like, hey, why not?

Speaker 12

He was never not gonna shoot. Let's put it that way. That was always and it's worth of pop is coming out there.

Speaker 2

Knew who?

Speaker 12

Why not?

Speaker 3

But I think the sounder is not early first fifteen to twenty minutes. This game was quite level in terms of territorily, but since the goal, it's one way traffic and Houston can't find the board now. All the little que pass to be so early on that's all gone. The sound is really overwhelming them, over running them. And what you need to do when you're on top like this is getting a second goal.

Speaker 11

I know one person in the stands that stood up as soon as new was about to swing for that shot. So Pete Fewing told us before the game that he felt like knew who was gonna score tonight. There's that man there who couple of step hovers, got plenty of confidence, and there's one thing that who's never liked his confidence. Sounders built well out the back. It's the foot of

roll down. It should have played in behind. Jordan Morris tries to play out the shoulder Michael can't quite get there, but keeps the board to the Capa dalla vega all inside to Rosnak strikes it comfortable save in the end Y Clark, but good build up from the sounders from one eighteen yard box to the other, ends up with a shot and a saved by Clark.

Speaker 12

It's good. It's free flowing. Everyone's getting involved.

Speaker 3

The first part the first half we saw more on the left side with Rougher. Now in the last few minutes that the Vegas tied to get involved from a bit more of what he can do. It's Russnack, it's Morris, it's all of them up there and right now Houston all over the place at the back and he cannot keep up with his sounder is off the ball movement.

Speaker 12

It's what's been very good.

Speaker 3

In the end, it's a tame effort from Russnak, but the Sounds continue to push. Of about ten minutes plus whatef we'll get for stoppage time. Here's to go for half time. The sound is not satisfied. Just with the one goal lead.

Speaker 11

Rothrock Chris to just nip in his BARSI on the ground or maybe it's the first Sea for a second and next Kavalcic that caught the brunt of Rothrock's enthusiasts, that just closed the ball down. I was about to say. One thing that the Sounders have certainly picked up in the middle part of the season onwards was their press in the right areas, their ability to play more direct at times. Have seen that tonight. They are fully behind Steve in terms of possession. Not an unexpected fifty eight

percent possession for Houston. As we mentioned, they've come into this game with an average of sixty percent on the season, but the Sounds are absorbed for the right times. Different Fright hasn't had to do too much and then they've put dangerous going in transition.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that that forty or whatever the Sounders have is been very effective and that's what you you know, possession's good, it's what you do with it. Nothing for the Sounders. They found a good balance between being patient at times. But Houston is a very very ambitious team. They'll lease basing behind and if it's there, why not take it? And you have the players who are gonna run, then a Vega wants to run. Rough Rock on the left hand side certainly wants to run, and of course Jordan

Morris as well wants to run. So when that space is there's what the team gives you, you've got to take it and fin the sounders the game plans so far as what to perfection, and it's usually you have to adjust. Because they keep playing like this, they'll concede again.

Speaker 11

Sound is faithful, turn up in numbers again, loud, boisterous start to the game. When Roman Torres, who has announced to the crowd they've certainly been alive in this game. Continue to support the team so well get here in the thirty eighth minute. Don't leave us at halftime, Jackson Pete Brad will be back to break it all down. And so there's been a wide open game. Sound is

building out the back with confidence. Far guess a couple of touches rolls it out square to THEEMA far side the right is Rosnack now back to gold rolls at square to rolled on. They'll clip inside, finds Vargas. Good play by the sound of shifting at one side the field dealer driven ball by rolled on finds the foot of rock got driving forward. Gorsy backing off on a yellow card can't get too tight A Crock's gonna have some joy now moving forward with the right back for

Houston on a yellow card. Here is that man roth Rock, goalscorer for the Sounders. Tonight they lead one goal to nil and this score up is presented by prominent Swedish Sounders and Vargas scrapping for the ball. Argas keeps him crown like that. This Sion rolled on rolls its word to his brother Alex. He picks the ball up thirty yards from Gold right of center, rolls it into Rosnack

top of the box. Strike low, some people say in the n by Clark, but the Sounders are knockings the exact roeing they're purring.

Speaker 12

It's good football, it really is.

Speaker 3

And it's maybe as free flowing as we've seen you see, maybe even all season.

Speaker 12

It's just everyone's involved. This dynamic.

Speaker 3

It's what we're used to seeing from a branch Schmidt's offensive group, where yes, you have your positions.

Speaker 12

But I don't mind.

Speaker 3

You know, Albert rusnak at Time's popping up on the rat hand, Roro coming inside.

Speaker 12

Jordan's showing up in different.

Speaker 3

Places, and it makes it very hard as a back line to read all the runs, all the movements.

Speaker 12

It's been off the board movement that's been very impressive here.

Speaker 3

For the Sounders, the one't appointment maybe is that they haven't extended the lead because that one nail. I guess a good Uston team who you have to assume it's still gonna have their moment. You can't dominate for the whole game. That will be the one letdown because in the playoffs you've got.

Speaker 12

To put teams away.

Speaker 11

Well, let's think about last week when yeah, San Jose and Sounds leading comfort two one. San Jose comes to the very end of the game nicks a goal to too. You have to say our taste everyone's mouth and you gotta think he has the message. Brice Schwetz's gonna give.

Speaker 12

Us the absolutely your run top.

Speaker 3

You've got to put teams away because when it comes to the playoffs, there's no margin for error. It's winna go home and every think. For the Sounders, that's what you're playing for now. It's getting yourself the right reps, sharpen up your tools so that when that postseason comes, you're firing on all cylinders collectively and individually.

Speaker 12

You'll love him and his culture staff what they've seen so far today. But the kill it instinct. That's what the very very best teams do when they're on top. They really really put your way.

Speaker 11

It's doughty and the aside the Houston right. Good build out of the back again from Houston side the Sounders snight both. He's looking confident building out of the back, able to break that pressure. So I was escobot far side the left alley. You go, top goal scorer of four Houston this season has been very quiet so far in these first forty minutes. Five minutes to go until the forty five is up, will see all the referee

addes on. There's been some time added because of michel his injury that the medical staff had to go on. Bull gets cliffs check. Another good delivered far side the left, picked up by lu left corner of the box. Good tracking back by Della Vegas. Looked strong and sharp already in this game, both sides of the ball, helping defensively, coursing the attack in third as well has been live. He had a couple of chances of course inside the eighteen one god one assist on his season so far

for Dela Vegas. He builds his match fitness, good time for the Sounders for him to do that, all gets shifted in who reached the ball and the game really well heads the ball out of play. This near sight is going to be a throw at four. Houston Sounders continued to lead hit one goal to nil. Wide open game, joyable game if you're at home, watching on TV or here in the stadium. It's so in the game. We'd

hope for two teams buying four playoff contention. The results that have gone around the league have confirmed that boat teams will be in the playoffs this year. We'll see how things shake out in the coming weeks see if they might face each other in those early rounds.

Speaker 2

So they picked the ball out of the back. But so lets Steve we mentioned, Bran sch Metzer was probably expecting that Houston would come out of the blocks looking to

possess the ball. They came out. They had I think a mark about sixty eight percent in the early part of the season. But the Sounders have plowed that back. It's about fifty two to forty eight right now in the Houston favor. But the Sounders started to get a real grip of the game.

Speaker 3

Yeah they are and it's a very good chess match, and you don't have to evolve because they came in with one game plan. The Sounders saw it freedom off a tiny bit to begin, adjusted to it defending really really well. Now the Sounders they're shifting the shaping. There's no space in between the lines. And Houston continued to do the same thing. But the Sounders now are well

built for it, win e quipped for it. And the one thing that the home team has done much better than the dynamore I've done is the balance when to play out of the back, when to build when to go a bit direct. It's been one dimension from Houston right now and I think the sound is You've got to give credit because early in the season it would have just been a possession match. But the Sounders have said, look, you can have the ball here, we'll have it at times, but we can go a to be down to your

goal very quickly. And that's what they've done and that's why they've been so effective in the first half. As you mentioned, just that killer instinct missing. Maybe you've got to try and get a second goal, work clock a bit more, but overall the body of work from an attacking sense and defensively, Schmidts and his staff have got to be very pleased.

Speaker 11

Dorsey has it just near side the right, plays it back sevet Chenko to our tour. Dawson makes you run inside. Read well by Fry who just covers this man blocks out doorsy and good playing by Stephan Fry. But if you mentioned Houston are on a bit of a role for three clean cheeks in the last four away games and won their last four straight away matches nor competition, so away from home Houston have been really strongly. Hues mentioned eight wins in the regular season away from home.

But the Sounders will take comfort and confidence in the record they have here at Luminfield ten to zero to three against Houston in regular season at Lumenfield, so Houston have never worn here. Sounders now take hopefully a one goal lead into the halftime. Worse than the ball goes over, bounces through past Farrera is going to be a goalkick for Sounders. As we tick towards the forty five minute mark, Sounders continue to lead here at Lumenfield one goal to nil.

And a big congratulations to Christian rolled Arm three hundred and thirty nine all comp appearances matches the legendary Ossie Alonzo, which I believe the person to my right, Steve zach Karani, still Ossie's still your favorite player, Christian Rold his match that top.

Speaker 3

Yeah, anytime you're mentioned alongside the Braains Bade Alonzo at this club, we're doing something great. And I think you know obviously he ass he was for his club. Christian, what a parade had I mean, just you think of me, the same amount of roles he's had to play for this season, just this season one, and you've put that old boy his entire career. Heard the Sounders still going strong as a player complain and have a five, six, seven years.

Speaker 12

Even so that number is only gonna go up three.

Speaker 11

Minutes about a time. But here comes Wroth that goes in almost fines Ross Knag just skips away from the Sounders number eleven. He's able to retrieve the ball far side the right back to Dela Vega. Will see how many minutes de la Vega gets. I'm sure he'll still be managed by the medical staff, just making sure that they continue to build him in a thoughtful way. But

he's looks strong. And here comes Delaveag again and supports a Vargas clips it towards Jordan Morris backstick cushion headed by Dors good play by Caval skips by New, but New who just comes back, does a good job defending, able to retain possession. Hick comes Barsi just turning out of pressure inside the Sounders half of the field. Well, Discount Tire get thirty percent short of average weight time when you buy a book online at discount tire dot com.

One minute of the three added added because Michel had picked up an injury eil in that first half. A medical staff had to come on. Sounder's trying to see out this final two minutes. Get in the locker room and let Brian Schmitzer paint some words of wisdom and Sounders can just see if that Quinta mentioned, can they find a second goal? Hickmes Morris on the shoulder of Deleavega, Dela Vega moving forward, drops the ball. Just caught in two minds. It's bundled over. Jordan Morris was wide open.

Dela Vega just hesitated a little bit too late us to clear their line. Is gonna be a thrown for the sound as far aside.

Speaker 12

Yeah, it's got a slipperman. Sometimes you have to do what the game's asking you to do.

Speaker 3

And then a Vega there you were sort of waiting to create the two of you one see what was gonna happen. Jordan did the right thing, plays the board, makes a great run and seeing the replay here, yeah he's got playing.

Speaker 12

You got play. I will say I think Jordan could have helped him a little bit.

Speaker 3

I think the run could have been much wider to create way more of an angle because on the replay here that we're seeing it's a much tougher pass than it looks at on first viewing, and you don't watch the film on that.

Speaker 12

I think Jordan, you have to curve your run, create that space. It is a good run.

Speaker 3

The passis still come, but if you're Jordan Morris, you have to run almost away from the la Vega to create that passing blane because at that moment you ask him for extreme precision.

Speaker 12

It never came.

Speaker 11

Yeah, it was just looking down from advantage point. Bryan Schmidt said, Tommy Deucher and the Rose Preck, you're all looking straight the monitor that sits in front of Andy Rose looking at that replay, I think you're right, because Michael was the center back was able to drop it.

Speaker 3

Well.

Speaker 12

Yeah, so it was it looked initially that, oh you've got playing watching a replay.

Speaker 3

I actually unders stand de la Vega's ford because it wasn't as clear cut because Jordan has to curve his run.

Speaker 12

Create the passing blane and then you'll get in. The run was too straight.

Speaker 11

Sounders have possession with Yamar halfway line the final seconds of this first half, and it's been a really good first half for the Sounders. They've looked somewhat in control. It was Houston came out of the block as well with managing possession. But the Sounders have really executed in transition. Here they come again as Michel slides over from es central defensive position, knocks the ball out to be a

thrown for the Sounders. They thrown in quickly. They leveaga back to rol dark Elevager hugging that far touchline, makes a little run inside. He's looked strong, powerful and confident, and there's the referees wire still bringing this positive verse half to an end. As we mentioned at the very beginning of our broadcast, the Sounders had clinched through various results around the league a playoff position for twenty twenty four, but the players didn't know it, and they took care

of business in that first half. It was Paul roth Rock in the twenty second minute that put the Sounders on the board. Seems like one of your your final thoughts.

Speaker 12

Good value for the lead.

Speaker 3

If the Sounders you knew us a good team coming in here early on, you can say somewhat of an even game. Since the turn of that first goal, it's been all one way traffic. Well deserve when at halftime you rub up a little bit, we'll probably see a couple of changes in the next fifteen to twenty minutes here, but it sounds the only letdown is that it's not more than one.

Speaker 11

We'll take a show U Break Jackson Phelps, Bret Evans, Pete Feuing. We'll be back to break it all down and halftime here with EQC pitch at lumen Fields. The sound As won Houston Dynamo nil.

Speaker 1

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show.

Speaker 2

Forty five minutes in the books here from Luminfield, and your Sounders have a one nothing lead over the Houston Dynamo that thanks to a twenty second minute goal from Paul Rothrock. He the spark that has kind of lit the Sounders offense in a half where really they could have scored two to three, even maybe four goals if various things went their way. But it is still one

nothing here against the Houston Dynamo. Quickly, we'll tell you that tonight's MATCHIC is presented by Providence and have some very good news for everybody. If you're walking the concourse here at bloom And Field, if you're driving around and you have not heard, if you have not seen, it is official with other results in major League Soccer going Seattle's way, it is official that the Sounders will be in the twenty twenty four MLS Cup playoffs. They are

in and have clinched their spot in the postseason. Now it's a question about seating and tonight being fifth place Houston, sixth place Seattle. It is a true six pointer and a big one nothing lead right now for the Sounders. Jackson Feltz, Brad Evans Pete viewing here for the halftime show, and Rad let's get your thoughts here on the first forty five.

Speaker 5

Yeah, look, I think I think Hoson Houston is a good team. At the end of the day. There's the reason why they're in fifth place.

Speaker 4

You gave the stats before the game on how and why they sit in the place that they're in, and they've come out and provided a challenge for the Sounders, especially in the first twenty minutes of this game. They're very, very dynamic. They're big, they're strong, and away from home,

they're willing to get forward. But as we watch the highlights here, the Sounders, you're right, had three or four golden opportunities in front of goal to really put this one to bed and send Houston home and now you go into halftime kind of scratching your head, thinking, Okay, how are we gonna get out of this one with three points.

Speaker 6

The game flipped in about the twentieth minute when Paul Rothrock picked off a pass is second sliding, he stood up and he played Jordan Morris through for the From that moment to the end of the half, it was all in the defensive side for Houston.

Speaker 7

They were on their heels. As Brad said, three or four chances.

Speaker 6

They can't go in the locker room right now, and they can't say, Okay, we're in the playoffs, you know, let's we're good.

Speaker 7

No, that's not that's not what the mentality needs to be.

Speaker 6

They need to get another goal and maybe another goal after that and make sure that they can keep moving up. Right now, they're tied at fifty points right for fourth place with Colorado. Colorados a fourth were in fifth. But you know the knock that you hear through the grapevine. Berholter, when he was coaching the national team, said hey, will you just keep the tie, We're gonna we're gonna advance, right and that the guys the foot off the gas and then they end up.

Speaker 7

Losing that game to the national team.

Speaker 6

So what I really hope is that they take this information, but they remember San Jose and they come out in the second half.

Speaker 7

And get a lot of joy because it created a lot of opportunities.

Speaker 6

Rothrock was exceptional on the left, three really good chances, one of them resulting in a goal, and there's been some good interplace. So let's let's keep getting better so that we can find the rhythm before Vancouver.

Speaker 4

Well.

R FL Soundners Houston, Dinah. Here from lumin Field. It's one nothing Seattle after forty five minutes back here on the halftime show, or I'll tell you that this copyrighted audio cast to Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, to, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express trating consent of Major League Soccer.

Taking a look at Brian Schmincher's bench today includes Nathan Josh Utensio, Jonathan Bell, Danny Muzowski, Reed Baker Whiting, Danny Lava, Georgie m Noongo, Dylan Tavez, and Google keeper Andrew Thomas. But Brad Pete, as we look at that, and we look at the having a one nothing lead right now, the questions are who can help off that bench here in the next forty five minutes with a busy, you know, three match and eight days stretch ahead, and also how can the Sounders hold on three points?

Speaker 4

Yeah, well, we ran into this situation against San Jose and it kind of bit us in the tail of those subs coming a little bit early. If I'm Schmidtz, these guys had ten days off, so there's no reason why they can't all play at least seventy five eighty minutes. I think he'll push the limit as far as he can because Houston is a good side, much better than a San Jose side. If you give them any inkling that you're taking your foot off the gas, like coach

Pete said, they're gonna punish you for it. And the Sounders can't afford to not get three points out of this game. Pedro de Vega is not gonna go ninety minutes. So I think Georgie's alike for like sub there, but he's gonna need to do the work defensively because Houston's gonna push. They know that they've got to at least get a point out of this one. And then maybe maybe you bring on Jonathan Bell just to shore things up there a little bit and then see how the

game plays out. Right, if the Sounders go up to nothing, three nothing, okay, maybe we make some changes earlier in rest for Wednesday night. But right now you cannot just think because you're up one nothing, oh, I make my subs. We're gonna get out of here one nill.

Speaker 5

That's not the case. The Sounders have to win this game to.

Speaker 4

Really give themselves a good chance at fourth place and getting that home field advantage.

Speaker 11

I'm with you.

Speaker 6

I think it's get another goal and then seventy fifth minute you can maybe make changes. I'm bell is a good decision, Josh Oftensio and maybe Georgie just to give some energy. He'll do the work defensively. But I don't think you want to make too many changes. And as Brad said, we've just had ten days off and then it's we're not flying across country. It's a bus ride up to Vancouver, or maybe a short flight up to Vancouver.

Speaker 7

Let's take care of business. Now, finish this one off, learn from the last game, and keep the momentum going.

Speaker 2

Sounder's e FS Soccer is presented by Providence Swedish officially held care partner of Sounders FC. Second half with Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani is next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 11

Welcome back Sounders fans to EQUC pitch at lumin Field, where your Sounders went into the locker room. One goal to now up the back of a twenty second minute by none other that man Paul Rothrock got the gold A guided that ball into the bottom corner. Houston came out of the gates firing. In terms of possession the season so far used to be sitting on an average

of sixty percent possession. The Sounders managed to claw that back in a grip of the game and the second half of that first half, and we're able to also create some additional chances they couldn't quite put away. Sounders in the anniversary kit green shirts, blue shorts, white Sox. This second half, they're attacking the south end the goal to our right, and then Houston all purple tonight, attacking the north end the goal to our left. So what sub for Houston's made at the half time. We'll get

to that in a moment. Let's get to the lineup for the Sounders coming out of the gates. No changes for the sound of Stefan fryin goal, back forth roll don Yemar Reagan knew who Christian rolled on alongside Vargas in the middle of the park, Pedro de la Vega, Rosneck Rothrocker who are attacking three midfield players that sit

behind Jordan Morris so Steve. What's Briance Schmittz who talked about kind of his message about being more clinical in the second goal which they didn't get against San Jose. But what Brian Schmetz has said to us too.

Speaker 12

I think you'd have maybe challenged them even a little bit.

Speaker 3

I think you can't have that kind of performance which has been good, but then be satisfied because you're still not at your best. So I think figuring out a couple of small things you can still tweak. Can you

get tell if they get even more involved. I thought he was very good in that final fifteen minutes or so, but I think it would have pushed his team to say, like, look, Houston's gonna be one of the better teams you can face, Like let's put into the sword, well right there, can we do a couple of things a little bit better? I know these days are sometimes you can watch a little bit of film at halftime. Would have maybe putting out a couple of the attack of movements that could

have been a bit better. I think defensively the team's been very good. Stephen Friest might have to work much at all, and you also have to expect that maybe Houston the next fifteen to twenty minutes it's gonna come and push a little bit more.

Speaker 12

But for the sounders you've done over from right in the first half.

Speaker 11

You just have to be a bit more cleaner switch a player by mckel and this nearside the left, far side the right. Now his Dorsy driving forward on his right foot, just trying to play it square along the box, fluffed his lines a little bit on that cross cleared by the Sounders, roll it back to Steve Clark. So Benelsen one change in the second half foot press by get you that lineup in just one minute as the Sounder's put some higher press. They've done a good job

in that. In the first half just lank Houston had possession at certain areas of the field and when the time is right they pressed. And now they win the ball in middle of the park with Christian Moldar in very bright orange boots less him Paul the park because his brother falls over the ball. He's done that a couple of times in this game so far, stumbled a couple of times in possession, not like Alex Rodn usually

so sure footed, confident in the possession. Because it's getting Ben Olson's lineup coming out for that second half Seve clarking goal about four of Dorsey's vet Chenko, mchal and Escobar Kriski alongside our tour Kvalcic Barsi and then McKinsey, Gains coming on for ali U on that left hand side, and then Sebastian Ferrera up front because Dorsey has it farst side the right beautiful night for soccer, as Sanders to contain this lead one nill coming into the second

half back of a roth Rock goal. Here is that man roth Rock energize as ever as roth Rock. It seems like Connie mentioned as practice, he continues to work so hard, just like he did a preseason, has earned his opportunity. Well, you'd hope for all young players. He's taken that opportunity to put the ball in the back and there four times this regular season so far, so great return for Brian Schmetzer and for roth Rock. But

here comes Gains on that left town side. They'll step over towards the end line, towards Roll done good defending by Alex Roldan gets back as the ball got to the end line and he's trying to cut the ball back Rolldan came back. It's gonna be a corner kick first of the second half. Seas that chronic.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and it's a good start from Houston in terms of you know, you know what branch meets would have said a half time I think from Ben Nelson would have been he would have challenged his team as well.

Speaker 12

They kind of figured out what we wanted to do our possession. All of that.

Speaker 3

We have to tweak things a bit, so I think maybe Houston even would be a bit more direct then they weren't the first off just didn't quite their style. It's gonna sound have to expect the first fifteen to twenty minutes for a big push on the animal.

Speaker 11

Comes to corner kick their left hand side to the foot of Barsie with his right foot, two arms up in the air. It just falls out of sight. Now steps forward and clip it towards the middle of the eighteen yard box. Good def anybody knew who picked up by delevating a far side the left. So a referee is gonna give a yellow card and I'm quite sure what that was. It was completely off the ball. I'm not sure if it was comment made to Alan Chapman, the referee, but it's on escabar and that is an

SGB yellow card. When a fellow is called, SGB trial lawyers are here to help. There's a SGB dashload dot com. You make some of that. Steve you tell us what happens.

Speaker 3

Yeah, absolutely, have no idea, can't see if anything happen here on the set piece. We're getting to see a replay here. And I think you're right. I think it's something he said. And yeah, yeah, and he wants to have a word with him.

Speaker 12

He's pulling o.

Speaker 11

Our tour as well. I was getting called back. It was a pull off of the shirt of roth Rock and the Chapman. It's not appreciating whatever happened.

Speaker 3

Yeah, he was very certain about the yellow pup that was and and we'll seem a reply it maybe okay.

Speaker 11

You were pushing a shove. It was a shoven to roth Roum. Didn't look much of it. I wonder if it happened.

Speaker 3

He must have said something on his way down. Maybe you complain because that push and roll that could be.

Speaker 11

A second yellow. How is that much too fully challenging Escobar, goodness gracious, Gryce schats on his feet. Alan Chapman is an experienced referee. But whether he got the ball or not, two foot studs up. I mean, when you've just been booked, that feels like it was an obvious yellow card.

Speaker 3

Escabars, I don't think, Yeah, you've just been booked and maybe he gets enough.

Speaker 12

Of the ball.

Speaker 11

Would the follow through looking at Yeah, it is all.

Speaker 3

A very reckless way to tackle. The technique, it's all off on that and you just missed that by a split second. And then Dada Vega leaves that situation. Are not worse than he did, and that's what Brian Schmetzi and yeah, they're not happy with that.

Speaker 11

It's the follow through. It's the right foot and the yell look that the left foot may have connected with all the right foot came up and over.

Speaker 12

Having just been bought. Not a very smart challenge at all Esco as a lucky boy.

Speaker 11

Yep, that'sk about Argentinian player n MLS in twenty eighteen Atlanta United in lafcre this experience. He's not a young boy. Almost two yellow cards the inside a minute. We'll see if the er will say something to Alan Chapman out if Brian Schmetz is on his feet outside the technical area. Chapman's saying he went through the ball, he didn't an advantage point and Brian Schwetz has probably got the same opinion.

Speaker 4

Of it that we do.

Speaker 11

It's like nothing has been spoken to Alan Chapman. The game goes on all the foot of the sound as they flick it down the line by Morris, Clurk by Sevett Schenka right to Brian Schmetz on his bench and Brian Schwetz is not gonna let this one lie is. He patrols up and down his technical area and bench. Trolldon has it ball in his hands eighteen yards or

so on this near side. Sounders right, they're attacking the Gold to our right in the south end in front of the Emerald City supporters group flags waving as ever. Boisterous loud here in the background is constant throughout the game. Support that team so well. Good play by Christian rolled On flicked in and I by Childer. Morris did a good job of readjusting himself just outside the eighteen yard box. Hard to get that power and direction the way it was happened, but good play by the sound.

Speaker 3

It's too playing Alex roll Down the first real attack of the second half here, and you're right it may be just a little bit a tid bit too high for Jordan Morris, but I'll tell you what, with the replay, I think you can just get enough on that Goldkner would have been beaten. I think for Jordan Morris, he had to generate his own power the balls in the air for a long time, and yeah he couldn't get the best. But that's a great cross by Alex from Done.

Good move it from Jordan Morris. But another chance was begging for the Sounders.

Speaker 11

And there was his sern Paul Rothrocks, sitting right behind Jordan Morris. Maybe he was a better option. Jordan Morris took his opportunity to get the header on goal, could quite redirect to see if Clark's goal. Sounders cleared their lines. Houston right back at it, trying to find themselves back into this game. Fifty third minute here at e QC Pitch. Lumin Field Sports Radio ninety three point three KGr FM

joined us on Apple SYNCD up. Appreciate you joining us and Sounders the body clinch playoff soccer for this upcoming year. Based on results around the league, Dallas losing it's Orlando Austin getting a tie put the Sounders in before they even kicked off. But doing what they have to do, Winn would have also got them into the playoffs. Right now, the leading one goal to nil offer Paul Rothrop first half goal. I hit the ball out and Reagan Sound his big contract as we mentioned in the first half,

well deserved this week. Another long throw by Griffin Dorsey farst side the right, just a few yards away from the system. Referee, you go short this, I'm good defended by Rothrock, can't quite again on the second board. Its back to Doors who his left foot clips up towards the back post for Chenko pulling on ol trolld. Referee doing nothing. An Cham's missed a few this game. An open start to the second half again as Sounds look trying to wrap up third. Three points today push themselves

up the Western Conference. Wednesday in Vancouver, job's gotta be done here at Lumenfield tonight, ball came in from gains Heady clear by yeam Are, picked up by Jordan Morris Christian header into the foot of Rosneck. Ball clips up. Our tour finds the foot of Rothrock fast side the Sounders left. Rosneck has it just driving forward. Thirteen assists on his year, one assist away from his all time leading.

The Brothers says that they go with L fourteen. Stella year four rows the ball to the right inside to the la Vega strikes along the six. Initially they blocked by Clark, bounced up, managed to jump up onto his feet pick up the second board. Good goal keeping by Steve Clark.

Speaker 5

It was.

Speaker 3

It's good football, it really is. And Albert Russ next DNA was all over that play there. He got on the board three or four times.

Speaker 12

Indian.

Speaker 3

The Sounders worked the ball really well from left to right and the Leavega does the right thing, hit the board hard and low across the goal. If it goes by the goalkeep plays a simple tapping for Jordan Morris. Clark in the end gets a strong hand to it,

gets down really well actually. But the Sounders every time they pick up a gear, the Dynamo having a very tough time sticking with them, and it's as dynamic, especially against a very good team, a team that will be in the playoffs that we've seen the Sounders offense for a lot of this season. It hasn't been like this where it's just free flowing movement, look like they're having fun out there and really should have had more than just a goal to show for it.

Speaker 11

Houston had possession fast o the right with doors who's been active on that right hand side as the Houston right back getting more advance for support. Is attacking crew gets some delivery in picked up now by Escobars. Is that maybe have a lucky boy out there yellow card.

Speaker 2

Something?

Speaker 11

He said, maybe it's a little tug on Rothrock as he ran out with the box on a corner kick and then a minute later he flying into a challenge. Great play by new far side the left. Read the game well again and Rothrock just tries to clip the wall over the top. We were too far from new who They give each other a high five, Appreciate the thought, the effort he's done a couple of times in this game. Read the game so well, and that's his maturation through

the way he's playing. Is another good solid year so far Tonight's Tonight's performances being just steady Eddy time.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

And I think the very best defenders don't have to you know, bolt ground and always get into one who won confrontations And I think knew who werelied on that for so long and it's still he's bread and but you know, he's one of the very best in the league, if not the best in the league, at really being a shutdown defender. But positionally reading a game tactically, seeing

the play happen before it does. He's gotten so much better with that new and I think tonight he hasn't really put a foot wrong that whole back for and with Christian and all bed in front of.

Speaker 12

Them, they've been very, very solid.

Speaker 3

Dynamo haven't been able to break them down for what the possession and passing their known for. Haven't really broken them down and got in behind. So the Sounders forced him to go around and when the cross as have come in, yea mind, Jackson have been there all night.

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 11

Fifty seven minutes gone here at the Q see pitch lumen Field Sounders leading one nil against the Houston Dynamo. Houston were one place above the Sounders coming into today's game in fifth spot. Sounders went sick. Now they've league frogged Houston. Both teams qualified for playoffs. Before kickoff, Houston had possession this near side the left with the substituent Gains came out for l Eu, their top goal scorer

was very quiet in that first half. Then also to make decision to make the quick change, wal Gets played the center far side the right to Dorsey Get advanced in his right back spot. Good defending by Nuo just holds up Dorsy back to Svett, Schenko to Dorsey, clipt on his left foot, headed up and away by Jackson. Reagan dropped off by Varsi to Escobar to games. Houston enjoying some possession top of the Sounders box. Good defending by Morris just comes back nixt the ball, but Houston

retained possession. Left channel comes center now to Michel. Eleven players for Houston way advanced. Even the center back inside the attacking third of the field. Kreskier has it left front of the box, reverse ball to left hand side to Gains, whips it in. Good defending by Roald arm It goes over the endlight corner kick for Houston.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

I think at some point and not too long, Sam's goot changed something, and maybe go to the bench and get some fresh legs, because just a few too many crosses beginning to come in from the Houston Dynamo there working the more really well, that great speller possession, they're getting it wide, getting boards into the box. So far, the sound of center backs have been equal to everything. But you can't keep in fighting a team onto eleven men behind the board on top of your own eighteen

yard box. At some point there's too much pressure to withstand.

Speaker 11

The third corner kick for Houston on this near side there left again. Varsi goes short to the Vulcis knocks it in by Varsi, headed away by Yamar. Another solid performance so far. Straight by our tour deflects a couple of times, picked up by de la Vega, slip, sit down the line, k fine, Jordan Morris can't quite get their Dorsy comes back, does a good job defending, and here come Houston again. Sounders just holding on right now, try to get a grip of the game as they

lead one goal to nil. On this fan appreciation night, Romantrres was honored before the game. Christian roll Down makes his three hundred and thirty ninth all Camp appearance for the Sounders, so tie second all time alongside Ozzie Alonzo. And it's still quite a few games away from a certain Stephan Fry makes it the three hundred and eightieth game today as Rothrop pushes forward, some high press on Steve Clark and all Blue strikes it long, drops it

into Yamar. Good powerful play by Yemar, and now it's the foot of Christian world driving forward, coming back to help can't win possessions. Sounders have it with de la Vega. So you're gonna get more time today. Players going to new Scientists down does Barsi Houston come away with it? Kavultic back to Griffin Dorsey. We'll get some of the results around the Western Conference because the results have helped the Sounders out today and certainly some big results for

some of these Western Conference teams. We'll get you there in just some moment. But this time it's Gaines left corner of the box against Yemar just drops his shoulder. Yemar just nudges him off football. Gaines falls to the ground. Emar does what he does best, just does his defending, picks up the Houston attacking player to be a goal kick remains Sounders one Houston nil. But that's what you love about mister Yea, that.

Speaker 3

Is we just see him two brilliant beast for defending. And that's what makes Yamo so good. That one there one v one we spoke about new who Yeama's right up there with him. Very few players can push it by Yemark get around him on the outside. It wasn't gonna happen there. Very good defending and he's been fantastic and the season's gone there, especially his leadership back there,

you know. For the sound is a bit of up and down year attacking wise, defensively again, second year in a road had been very good.

Speaker 11

Boar goes over the top. Mckelvey's to play well. Rothrock willing runner once again. Ball clear by Clark, clears his lines but goes out there's near side for we're throwing eighteen yards from the corner flag in the hands of Vargas. As Chris Alex Roldan jogs up, it's gonna take control. We'll see the bench giving some instructions to read Baker Whiting getting himself ready to come on the field. We'll see what that is. Yimar knew he was putting his hand up and just be putting his thumbs up. This

is okay. Pibc's read about to come off the bench, and maybe it's like I don't want to. I don't want to come off right now. Feel pretty comfortable the way I'm playing. All around the corner by Jordan Morris, picked it well by Escobar. Good defending back heel confidently to our tour this near side the left, deep in the Houston half of the field. Building out the back again. That does such a good job. As Yamo comes clashing in,

it seems an Ilivert challenge. It's gonna be a yellow card and Yemo Alan Chantman just waited and hesitated for a second. Yeah, nam I putting against the thumb up. Understands the decision, but it was more just a slight slip by Yemar and.

Speaker 3

Yeah, just miss timed. It was actually overheit passed and used to trying to break out. Yamo read it well, just couldn't get there quiet in time. And you know Houston animal played there rolled the contact he knew was coming.

Speaker 12

There wasn't too much contact.

Speaker 3

You saw both branch mess and Andy Rose letting her referenold there was not too much contact. But it's still the found stop the transition. You understand the yellow card and yeah, I canna have no conflicts.

Speaker 11

Gains goes into Barsie outside the foot square to for error. Barsity again rolls in square across the box to Dorsy. Good defending by Knuho, but it looks like it's going to roll out for a fourth corner kick for Houston's They continue to knock on the door of the Sounders looking for that equalizing goal. Tonight's match is presented by Providence. Sounders lead one nill against the Houston Dynamo. Houston have not won in MLS regular season at Lumen Field since

two thousand and nine, a record. The Sounder want to keep going here Or gets whipped in from the corner kick headed away by new good flick by the Sounders left back, falls to the foot of our tour and then gains this near side the left good press by dela Vega Or comes in, boll bounces through, comes off the shin of Michel Kereskia just hopefully putting his hand up in the air asking for a corner kick. Nothing given.

It's going to be a goalkick for the Sounders. You see the substitution and three Baker wanders to get his final prep. It's de la Vega once again. Sixty third, sixty fourth minute. We spoke to Brian that was expected that he would get this time. Of course, we've got Vancouver coming up in a few days. Yeah, think Brian Schwitz just gonna manage his minutes but de la Vega looks, he looks.

Speaker 12

It's one of the best outings. Yeah, that's what you can expect game by game.

Speaker 3

Can you keep improving, keep adding And it's tough going into games knowing on a minute restriction it's not a ninety minute game for you. That kind of shift your mentality as well. But he packed up good amount of working.

Speaker 12

That's what he did today. And what that means for the sound is this rough rock and just put over to this.

Speaker 3

Right hand side and read Werkwaian will go and play on the left hand side in front of him.

Speaker 11

Let's get you the rest of the bench for the sound. As Nathan A Tenshio Bell Mussovski coming back from some injury,

he's head him. The last couple of weeks we'd Baker White to mention Kim off the bench for Pedro de la Vega, Andrew Thomas, the Goldenkeeper, Labor, Georgie Menungo, and Dylan Tevis Leo two, Jp brow Wall out injured Leo two with an illness, So some multi players still to come back to Brian Schmdzon, you know, are trying to branter thinking Pete in past games that you know this time of the season you expect and hope that you're

eleven is almost solidified. But a good problem to have when you've got eleven players playing well and you've got other guys who are still playing welcoming off the bench.

Speaker 7

Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 3

And I asked branch Messa, it's a couple of weeks ago, if you had a playoff game tomorrow, would you know your best eleven? And it took him a little while to answer that. So I think in years past the team sort of picked itself. He maybe we're twelve, thirteen, fourteen deep at MOSK, like the very best teams in MLS.

Speaker 12

Are this year.

Speaker 3

For the Sunders, you still have guys who haven't been a part of things for quite a long time, who are proven in MLS with a track recording, you ta get us in a one off game, in a playoff serious you still can't right off the lacks of Rudy as Leo two what he's done in this league.

Speaker 12

So I think the sound is depth is in a good place.

Speaker 3

But certainly there are guys lack Paul rough Rock while beginning to separate and stamp then name into that lineup, And I think we'll see more and more from de la Vega as well as the weeks go by. Again, maybe he'd rest a bit more midweek as another game at the weekend, and he can only continue to improve. I thought he had a very good shift today and we forgot even about Read ba Kerwayian how great of a season he's had.

Speaker 12

You're able to bring players like that on as well.

Speaker 3

So the sounds is depth isn't a very good place as they begin to get themselves ready for the postseason.

Speaker 11

Yet read Bigerwaite, it took some time to come back from an injury picked up in the last postseason where he came back from injury and then picked up another. He was a hamstring injury pretty soon thereafter forced him off the field, and then it took him all of six months to come back really and really build that strength as his body continues to mature and some foundational play, some foundational games for Reid to build himself in for

next season. And he was playing on that left hand side now, Steve, and you got to think with other options on the bench. It's just another show of confidence that Brian Schmittz has for the young kids that Read is the first player to come off the bench.

Speaker 3

Yeah, he is, and I think especially coming off the bench, and maybe it's not even his best position.

Speaker 12

It could be his third position.

Speaker 11

Look at him go now Redbaker which he knocks the ball pass. Svetchenko has the legs on. The big center back just drops his shoulder and Svetchenko used so experienced but could read Nigga l away. Our talk comes across sir Chenker goes down. I can chatman, it's a goal kick from advantage point that Sveetcheker went down, maybe nudged it over the end line.

Speaker 3

Yeah, we've seen a repun the big screen. I thought, if you're not calling a foul against Reed, then how is this not a corner? We'll get a better looky.

Speaker 12

The last touch is definitely off the.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I think, I listen. I think that's a corner kick. If he hasn't caught a foul, I think that's a corner kick. But just to the point on read there can play left back. There are people with in this club who believe that his future could even be out right back. And now he comes on as the first attacking option to play left wing left midfield in front of new who definitely a bright future. He's had such a such a good year read and I love him

going forward. You know, he's someone who's not afraid and just saw him. They tried to make things happen and it's similar to rough Rock when they run the pitch, they do make their presence film.

Speaker 11

He's got such a good physical profile for a young kid. Really matured into his body of the last year or two and he had some composure and some resilience as well, both mentally and physically. You mean, he's got all the tools to be another incredibly positive Sounder's home grown player. But here come the Sounders with another player that's come through the ranks and Jordan Morris career year this year thirteen goals to assist. Paul goes out the right hand

side to roth Rock goal score. Ball comes in bounced around our tour clears his line, flicks it up, picked up top of the box by Christian rolled on Ball's it left too now touch towards the end. Lie comes in along as six picked it by our top cleared the Chester Farrera Sounders putting pressure high up and they're attacking half of the field cleared by Dorsey only to

Reagan and then rolled on. Was it square to Rosna pressure from behind by bass, but Rosnick uses that experience and strength shrugs it off or goes left to new drive forward towards the end line, comes off Dorsey over the end line corner kick Sounders remains here. In the sixty ninth minute, the sounder's warner, Houston Nil sees that quronic.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it's been a good response by the sound as I thought, Houston. The ten previous minutes preceding this began to find their way, get the board wide, get crosses into the box, began to look dangerous, and the sounders have responded really, really.

Speaker 12

Well now and it's back to that a bit of direct play.

Speaker 3

The balance between the build up and being direct has been very good today for the sounders, and it's caused dynam all all kinds of problems.

Speaker 11

The corner kick for the sounders hand up by Rosneck. Sounders left in swinger with Rosneck's right foot goes short and low goes into the side netting. Maybe try to catch Steve Clark off off his lines. He's used cheating but a waste by Rosnick. Not usual as usual self, it's delivery from set pieces and from wide positions throughout the course of this year has been nothing but exceptional.

Thirteen assists, as we mentioned on his year so far, twenty one goal contributions, so eight goals on his campaign last year was seven goals, four assists, so he continues to build upon his statistics as a sounder. Britsh Metzer gave him proverbial number ten position with Nicolodera moving on.

He's really taking advantage of that opportunity. And see what we talked with Brian earlier parts of the year where Rose was still trying to find his feet and he kind of challenged Albert to they put the team on his shoulders, and he's really done that.

Speaker 2

Sidy.

Speaker 3

Yeah, we cannot say enough about the season he's had there. The shoes of Nicoladero and they'll never be fully filled just for how good he was for so many years. But Albert cam doing his only way. A Moven player, a proven player in MLS. There's a reason he was brought to this club and I think this year, just with that departure of Nicole, there was a bit of a void, a vacancy. He's sawed it really well and not enough can be said about the partners. He's been

off with Jordan Morris. They find each other for a lot and he's been a big reason why the Sounders had a stronger second half of the season.

Speaker 11

Another dubious call on non call by Alan Chapman. It was Rozaka got clipped in the middle of the field, went down, looked and obvious found nothing given by Chapman. Houston Houston have it good step by set of carefuls on a yellow card, but managed to win the ball. Clip back up in the air by svet Schenko. One by the Sounder's back line, but picked up again on the halfway line by Houston. Brad Smith, former sound of getting ready to come on for Houston. Ball towards the

end line. Good defending by Jackson Regan. She uses big in the body as he wins the possession. Retains possession, finds Vargas has been a little quiet in this second half, but plays a ball in behind could Jordan Morris uses power and strength. Good defending by m Chalis, cleans up the mess, finds svet Schenko and then to the foot of Karski. A wide open game now in the seventy second minute sounds leading one mill you know Sports Radio

ninety three point three kids, you're FM. As we mentioned, the referee is gonna hold up play substitution for Houston. Former Sounder will see what kind of reception Brad Smith gets part of the twenty nineteen MLS Cup team, the one here, of course, so memorably in front of a packed packed house that winter day, and fans give him a warm reception. It's gonna come on the field. It's gonna play on this near side, left hand side, and if you change up, Games is gonna go onto that

right hand side. It's like Ferrera as the man to go off. Cal Chich is gonna play more central than Games and College will likely switch up across that attacking three as Rothrock fights for possession. Good play by roth Rock at Vargas, good switch at play, drives the ball from it's near side to the fast I picked up by Red. Looks like it went out and the sister referee on that fast so I did see it just like we did. It's gonna be a throw in fuson.

Speaker 3

Like Brad Smith, you know, he deservely gets a warm reception here from the Sounders fans. These fans don't forget, was a very very big player for this club in the time you will see at left back, left mid when you need to be had such a wonderful connection on the left hand side at Clams with Jordan Morris, but especially with Victor Wrigrez.

Speaker 12

And so it's good to see m still out there playing. See the Sounds.

Speaker 3

What Holeby comes and has an uneventful twenty minutes or so, but no surprised to see him get a warm welcome good.

Speaker 11

Scept by Michael off the toe of Rosneck. What Sounds FC socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. It comes New driving forward ball into the furtive Morris. It was Clark who read the danger well, tried to find it, knew who if we've run off Jordan Morris just off the shoulder of Zvet Schenker, I couldn't quite connect. Clark comes out, cleans up the danger. Sounds contingently here one goal to nil and this score update is presented by Providence.

Speaker 3

I think he's done a good job tonight. New who have picking and choosing his moments of when to get forward into your attack. You don't often seen him getting into the attack with the board. It's usually off the board there and and there. It was a tight angle trying to paid a fruit board there for Jordan Morris. But I think knew Who's defended really well, and I actually like his balanced in terms of supporting the attack a bit more from behind, not being as recklessly just

going forward every chance he gets. It's one of the reasons why he's back for has been so solid defensively and Houston really haven't been able to penetrate through them.

Speaker 11

Seventy five minutes gone here he can you see a pitch. Lumin Field Sports already with ninety three point three KGr FM perfect late September evening for a game of soccer Maren's playing next door. Busy, busy evening in Sodo. Certainly the sounds faithful come out in their numbers again. Appreciate the effort the sounds are putting out. So far, so good. Paul comes in by that man Brad Smith, clipped up in the air by Yama who wins the head on the second attempt, headed back in by Houston. Top of

the boxes. Gaval find keris gear just all step over, pulls it into the foot of Escabar and a yellow card. We thought it might get a red by that second challenge not to be all goes over the end line. Sounders goal kick well sounds founds. If Sounders FC scores anytime after the eighteenth minute during a home match, you'll have the chance to win free Lasik surgery from Sharp Vision, Modern Lasic and lens. Sign up today at Sounders fc dot com, slash laser focus and Frank good delivery from

his foot the tourist the end line. Basi comes back, just shrugs off, rolled on three pause the foul free kick for the Sounders. As he mentioned, lots of games around the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference tonight, let's give a couple of those results. LAFC going to difficult place to play Cincinnati come out two to one winners. That was just after they were victorious in their US Open Cup final three goals to one against Kansas City in La so La. Finally get the monkey off their bat.

They win a final. It lost, of course, the Columbus crew here come to sound as foul him and it was one came across. It was a handball him and by Chapman Guls going quickly trying to find that equalizing goal. Ball goes in square to Gavalcic chasing back as red Baker white and seven three seventh Fright reads the ball well goes over the end line. That entry pass couldn't quite connect with Gaines. It's going to be a goal

kick for the sound as they lead one nil. As we mentioned, just a couple of more results, Saint Louis City three Sport in KC one so Sporting Casey losing the final US Open Cup then get knocked out of the playoffs tonight, so they are officially out of the playoffs alongside San Jose Minnesota United. Three nil winners against Colorado Rapid's good result for the Sounders as Colorado's sit right above the Sounders and they're going to be their

opponent in a week's time in Colorado. Sounders travel to the Denver area flattering challenge.

Speaker 12

So definitely definitely yellow card.

Speaker 11

By Kris Kia and that's an SGB yellow card when a fellow is called SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit SGB dash lord dot com.

Speaker 3

Yeah, not intentional, but definitely a lot of contact foot raised. It's a painful one that you know, like Chapman was across very quickly there, and it's the right coord for yellow card. And as time just getting a chance again, a little bit of a breevie. You're not going to sort of a final push here, you know, time added, don We're looking at another fifteen maybe twenty minutes.

Speaker 2

We'll see.

Speaker 3

And it's about game management. If you can find the second world, which is the loudis you all night? You go for it, but you don't lose this game. It's also about confidence, about momentum. All those things start to become very important as the season begins to wind down. And if the sound is about game management, she met Sandy Staff will be looking at the bridge to see who were the guys that can tell us when to slow it down, when to speed it up. To frustrate

Houston a little bit more. Maybe now you are a bit more direct than you have even been in this whole game so far. You really put the board a bit more into the channels off the board running just take the chance away from from Houston to get any opportunity to bring this game back level.

Speaker 11

Sounds that possession far south left. Yes, of course it wasn't long ago ten days ago, when Sounders worth leading its San Jose earthquakes have been a nemesis this year. Three two lost down in San Jose that Brian Schwetz had mentioned this week to remember those results where Stinging Lake goals and here comes Rothrock top of the box, rolls into Jordan Morris turns away from pressure to chance maybe to drop his shoulder hit it with his left foot, didn't,

but retains possession for the Sounders. All Dn shifts. It's sent to this near side the right to read Baker White. It comes back order towards the end. Let a bruzzneck who clips it in stretch light by Sevetchenko clears his lions. Houston step out, sounds that possession of them and it's rolled on clays it into read Baker White and shift from that left hand side to it's near side the right, through the legs of Karaskia, but used to Dynamo trying to lay down the lines to gains good cut out.

My game are gonna be a throwing forth, Houston. A couple of changes. Now Barsie's gonna go off, Seagull's gonna come on, and it's gonna be Brooklyn Rains. Who's gonna come on the field. See all that change is gonna be. That's gonna be actually for Barsia, right. You get the other one as well. It's Laket Dorsey at four side. It's gonna walk off the right back. So Brooklyn Rains is gonna come on the field. We'll see how they check things up. And so Escobar is gonna shift to

the right hand side. He's the right foot to play it. On the left hand side. Dark Smith looks like he's gonna drop back to the left back spot, so he's attacking left back. As we remember, the Seagull's gonna slide up front Rains on the far side of the right. Brooklyn Rains made his debut September of twenty twenty two against the Sounders. It gets another chance to play against

the men in green. So they continue to lead here one goal to nil, and Brans Schmetzer will certainly be demanding expecting the Sounder to see this one out home games at this part of the season vital. This is one of two remaining home games of the season, Vancouver coming up on Wednesday, Colorado next week and then a litill break and then it's Portland Timbers on decision. They come in on October nineteenth and there will be all to play for. I am sure in that game. Do

not miss it. Kavlis is nearside the left thirty yards or so from the end line goes back to Keriskia. To our tour, it's been steady Eddy in the middle of the field for Houston. They retained possession with Brad Smith as near side.

Speaker 4

Well.

Speaker 11

As we mentioned the Ravee. We hit the road to take on Kaskidie. Arrival Vancouver White Counts on Wednesday, October second at seven thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via the mly season Pass from the Apple TV app. Listen on nine fifty kg AM l Ray thirteen sixty am Probadenent Swedish prematch showstocks at seven pm. The rains has it clips it from center far side the right to Escobar,

shifted from left back to right back. Sound has kempt in their defensive third of the field, protecting stephvan Fryer,

protecting their wonder league. All goes into Kavalci's good defending by Bush and rolled on and then aime On can do anything more than just clip it long a little bit lone figure up front right now, as sound as you have to get their foot of the board, try and cover some possession here in the final nine minutes or so of ninety we'll see what Melan Chapman has to add on he had in three minutes in the first half. I just stop it, just speak coming the

second half. See, this is all about just guts and about just protecting a leader. As caval Chi comes left corner, we'll get your force in just a moment, but our tour is gonna clip it to the farst side. Escobar advance drops it down clearance by Jackson Reagan. He'll take that as the sound of step that outside their eating yard.

Bocks defend again, all into Escobar. But it's all about this is kind of playoff soccer, right You've gotta kind of retain the leader, you've gotta manage it, and you've gotta kind of get over the finish line.

Speaker 3

Yeah, listen, when you start playing the better teams in this league, you're gonna have moments where you have to just absorb the pressure, manage to storm a little bit. But it sounds some relief right now, and so branch Mans is beginning of some activity on the bench because he knew the outlet. Jordan Morris exhausted, Albert Rousnack, exhausted Christian Rodin.

Speaker 12

So just get some fresh legs out there, guys.

Speaker 3

You can chase balls into channels, into blind alleys because the dynamal this is what they do.

Speaker 12

They can do this all day.

Speaker 3

And the more you chase a dark possession, it just wears on you from a physical standpoint and a mental standpoint for concentration, and it's gonna sound it just need some fresh legs and fresh minds out there to get this over the line.

Speaker 12

And it's why I was harping on about that second goal. It makes a big difference. At one nill. The animals still believe, if you want to know.

Speaker 3

Up here, maybe some of that belief starts to dwindle, but as it is, it's all to play for still well.

Speaker 11

Branch Manzer is gonna make a couple of changes. As Steve mentioned, it's gonna be Georgiemann and go we'll see what that is. Jordan Morris's last touch was I need to go by a look a lot of fatigued a little slot people went out of bounds. Rothrock is gonna come off the film. I'm surprised that Rothrock is the one player that brings your energy. But he's gonna come off the film maybe some preparation for Vancouver this coming week. It's gonna be Vargas who's gonna come off the field.

It's gonna be a tensity off of Vargas, like for like switch Georgie Munungo, who's gonna play on that right hand side. It's gonna be really gonna shift again to that left hand side. So both Rosnk and Morris stay on the field.

Speaker 3

Surprising surprise, all or beeds off. Havingk all beds of player you can run all day. He can't play in there. You maybe just add the tensail again, extra body. Centrally, you have Georgia who's gonna be ordered off the ball running and can still chase things. But having both Jordan and Album in there who don't have too much left

in the tank, and then changing a central position. It's a little bit surprising, but it is fresh legs and it does give the sound as a chance to sort of relieve some of the pressure that'd been under.

Speaker 11

Second half, is Georgie Steve a player that couldn't play up front. Maybe just energy and power.

Speaker 3

And just cause some proper and it's just chase the bland Alli's if you ask anyone to go on ten to fifteen minutes, he certainly can't do it, showing he has a quantity on the board. But you can also run off the board. That's all again, a lot of this is informed by the data. They're tracking different things. So Jordan alb but must be good. I thought at least one of them removed, but Bran Schmessa keeps both of his two talisment on as a Sounders tried to close this out.

Speaker 11

Well, let's not forget that he was asked the end of the game last week against San Jose about the substitutions. He commented again this week he pulled off Ro's neck when the Sounders were leading to one and they conceded late in that game. So it comes Georgia. Good play by Michel picks it out of the air, but finds the foot of Alex Schroldan read Baker white and far

side of the left. Asking for it goes short to attention back to Georgie that Alex Roldan a little good combination can he get to the inline if you'll have some quality trat well by Brad Smith and mckel comes across. Ball goes into the foot of attent to your right corner of the box. Back to Georgie is still on side, time and space just he'll step over. Kaskia comes across. They've seen that before him short. His experience didn't fall for any of it, because into a tent, gets his

pocket picked. Here comes Houston, dynamos Siegel the sub trying to flick it around the corner. Comes Georgie against more experienced Brant Smith. Good play by Georgie, holds the ball at well crowded like that ball gets good flip that post defending by smet schenk Or just took it off Jordan Morris's head, his eyes wide open on that one is Sounders retained possession of rebaker white and goes short to Jordan Morris. Good step by Rains and he's gonna

bring it forward. Clipped around the corner by Kavalchich and they come Houston far side. The right comes inside to Siegal and then Keriskia. Kavali has its near side. The left go square atop of the box of seagles. Shower shot speculatively takes a deflection though, and that's gonna be a corner kick here. In the eighty seventh minute, Sounders lead one goal to nil. As we mentioned, the results continue to be positive for the saund has three more points.

Gright now shifts some to fifty points. But they've got some work to do. Still seems that morning the.

Speaker 3

Game's selling the balance and that and what haven't sat back? They're not accepted the one no defeat. They're still pushing. See what kind of time is added on here, but it sounds to have something working.

Speaker 12

Defending to the.

Speaker 11

Chronic kick on the Houston left hand side in swinger or comes in right on top of the six punch bike, Steph fen Fry decides to punch, not collect the decision by step fan Fire playing is three hudred and eightieth game today it's Georgie a little step up a play by Georgie gets a little hand in the face.

Speaker 12

Just Chatman sees it's right.

Speaker 11

There ten yards away pro Schwetz Whitland.

Speaker 3

Since I'm watching it, it's a foul, and I think it's a foul, but I don't think too much contact.

Speaker 12

But that's really good play by Georgie.

Speaker 3

He's been gray since coming on here in terms of keeping the ball, being an outlet, and I think it's one of those things where Georgie's a young player and a non quantity and so you don't get those kind of whistles yet.

Speaker 12

But it looked back off our.

Speaker 11

Sounders so far, so good step Froan Fry hasn't had to do too much in this game, even with Houston's level of possession mentioned sixty percent possession throughout the season on average leads MLS right now seeing about sixty two percent, so Sounders knew they'd being for a bit of a dogfight tonight relative to possession, even at home. So far, they're the ones that have created the better chances and

the attacking third of the field. Steve Clark's made a couple of saves first half, especially as Steve mentioned, Sunder's be able to find that elusive second goal. Brad Smith was able to retain possession. Georgie steps in, gets clattered into this time it's a free kick. Alan Chant was actually gonna call it on Georgie Minano and he's rocked, writhing in some pain holding his leg. That's going to cause some concern for the sounds of stuff as the medical stuff get ready.

Speaker 12

Yeah, well, I mean thanks for he's getting back up to his feet.

Speaker 11

More of a knock versus a twist, which is good.

Speaker 3

Yeap, just look like he crushed into Ratsmith there than a collision. But George, he's still limping, but up on his feet now Dyana will go to the bench again.

Speaker 12

And this went to the final stretch.

Speaker 3

And so it really is for the Houston Dynamoites now whenever, and the sound is this is great prep for that sort of playoff intensity. Been under the pressure a little bit and can you still find a way to win?

Speaker 11

Sounders lead one nil here for getting to the final minute of ninety and a sport that is presented by Provident Swedish as they build out the back no chances needed for the Sounders. Good can't play by Alex Roldan finds attention or is it out farst side the left to n who just puts his foot on the ball slows the game down. Sounder is faithful and full voice. Tonight we'll be back on the road, just driving up

the I five on Wednesday. His face. Vancouver had a really good year as well, they're fighting for playoff contention. As the board goes down, I couldn't point elude as Bryce Schmitza continues to have a go Alan Chapman. Eventually Chapman puts the whistle to his mouth. Maybe he's sick and tired of hearing from Brian Schweizer, but you got to think Alan chapm with all experience, he just miss something.

We'll yes, advantage point is a little bit high and a little different, but it's not far away on.

Speaker 2

Some of these.

Speaker 12

Yeah, he's missed a couple of them.

Speaker 3

Then I think the frustration was building, and not only branch mets Up Precky and Andy Rose, the whole stuff down there, just making sure that Alan Chaplin didn't miss that.

Speaker 12

As we see the board working for the sound is it's just about closing out.

Speaker 11

Now what goes in to Morris's going to find Georgia gets clattered into nothing. Given again by Alan Chapman, He's going to be public and I mean number one, I feel like if things don't go according to plan these final three minutes, three minutes of at a time for the Sounders, He's got to see this game out and

they earned that three points. Sound has continued to play at a high level since that league's cut break driving forward is Christian rolled art Bord goes inside to new head down, drives forward tracked by several Houston players, one of them being Escobar. Goes off, Well, I came off for the Houston player, didn't went over the end line, So we go hit for Houston. Sounders lead one nail two minutes ago of the three of added time.

Speaker 3

And then I think you're right, Danny, for all their possession and sort of this game sort of felt in the balance.

Speaker 12

Special hasn't done much. You'll had much to do.

Speaker 3

I mean a few processes to come out four corners, speculative efforts, but yeah, who still haven't really sound has got to be very happy you've found it defended at Maybe this is what it'll take. Maybe one goal is gonna have to be enough, and defensively at least branch mess at the staff. It's been a masterclass in terms of allowing the team to have possession but not allowing.

Speaker 12

Them to break you down and trouble your hockey.

Speaker 2

Boy.

Speaker 11

Oh, tough challenge, but nothing given again by Alan Chapman, Houston retained possession. They're not foreign two tight games. Nineteen games have been by one goal season, so Houston been in this position before trying to find a league goal. And they come far side the right with Escobar, Houston in possession. Sound As eleven men behind the ball, just over a minute to go of three, Sounders need to

hold on. As Steve zach Kerney mentioned, seven shots for Houston with sixty three percent possession, just one on target for them in this game so far, Sounders ten shots, four of those on target, and you've got to think they've been a couple of really good chances for the Sounders so far. Paut Rothrock's twenty second minute goal, it's the goal that is all important right now as the

Sounders look to hold on. Now we're into the final minute and Georgia Minogua has it crossed the harperad like, can he just drive into the corner, potentially just hold the ball up he crosses the ball necessarily, Bryce schmidtz is just ask him for to hold the ball, Georgie if the ball up, well gets the ball from Brad Smith, turns the corner, turns around, assistant referee goes the other way, looking at the fans right behind the assistant referee. That's

not a microphone. You can see the fans just how all go at the assistant referee. Final seconds here An Chatman's looking at his watch. Bull goes to Alex Roldan looks like this, Sounds have done enough. They've got the win. That's what they needed to do to get into the playoffs. And they get the win and they solidify their playoff position for twenty twenty four with a really good professional performance.

It was a goal in the twenty second minute by Paul Rothrock who continues to play at such a high level, and what's been a really stellar campaign for the young man. Steve, I your final thoughts.

Speaker 12

It's a good win. It's a good win by the Sounders.

Speaker 3

I think overall edged it yeah, it's I guess a very good use Dynamo team. But in the end it was a team that sort of promised a lot more than they actually deliver. And for the Sounders all across the board, you've had good performances. I think the whole back line goalkeepop the two defending me to front him, Christian and all Bed did a great job protecting that. And then when it was time to put a border

back at the name, there was that man again. Rough Rocks on massive three points to kick off what should be a pivotal week for the Sounders and they begin to getting themselves ready.

Speaker 12

For that postseason.

Speaker 11

Well, the Winds Sounders leap frog Houston to fifty points. They sit in fifth position, level on points with Colorado. Colorado had the tiebreaker, and then Salt Lake City sit just two points above as do LAFC. So it sounds to have a chance midweek to go on the road to Vancouver, get three points and can they leap them frog up the standings to potentially second place depending on how other results go. Well, thanks for everyone involved in

today's broadcast. Terry Ryan here in the booth for his kid back at the studio, Keeley Dunning, Ryan Kahnes, Kevin Kay and of course the Sounders Ledge and Steve zach Quarni. We'll see back here on Wednesday evening when we travel north to play the Vancouver white Caps in a big

Cascadia game with playoff position implications. W the Sounders half solidified their spot in the twenty twenty four playoffs tonight, and I'm sure the guys will break it all down, including Will the Sounders have to face this coming week alby Jackson Felts, Brad Evans and Pete Fwing. But for now, for me, UC pitch at lumin Field is the Sounders come out victorious one goal to nil against the Houston Dynamo.

Speaker 2

Well it's a final here from lumen Field. Celebratory smiles all around as your Sounders have captured a massive three points here in this Western Conference race, and they have jumped. They have jumped. See me Houston with a one nothing win over Houston here tonight at Luminfield and as players here on fan appreciation night are thrown in kickers kicking soccer balls into the stands right now, giving a bunch of balls away to fans. A very very fun atmosphere

to night in Luminfield. As everybody, whether they end up with a ball or not, they're going home happy because the Sounders have gotten a big win here tonight. We talked about in pre match show Pete Fewing Jackson Felts by the way here for the postmatch show. This was a true six pointer because Houston started the night one point ahead of Seattle. Three points for Seattle. That's taking away three points from Houston. Three points for Houston. It's

taking away three from Seattle. It's a true six pointer and it went Seattle's way with the one nothing win a twenty second minute goal from Paul Rothrock and boy, the defensive effort Pete tonight was outstanding for a Houston team that is the highest possession team in MLS. Seattle did so well. They put the Clams down and they held them scoreless for ninety.

Speaker 7

Yeah, I am you know.

Speaker 6

You make a great point. Getting the shutout very very important. There were more goals for the Sounders on the table to have tonight. But getting that win, especially as you say after the San Jose game, that's a that's a big relief coaches want to be. You don't like to win one nothing until it's over. When it's over, you go, okay, good, we can hold a league. You can handle the pressure. That's an important thing to be able to do. So there were goals. I'd love to see Jordan Moris Morris,

he's on thirteen right now. I'd love to see him get to twenty. And that goes into the playoffs as well. I thought he could have had a couple of tonight. It was unlucky on the one with Paul Rothrock. He did everything he could laid out to get a foot to it, and he did well to get a foot to it, but just skimmed off the outside of the post. So yeah, that Seattle had some real good bright spots. And now it's up to Vancouver. There's time to look at this and there's time to make some Hey, this

is what we got to do better. We got to start a little quicker, but they're gonna be pleased with us. And now, gosh, you can feel playoff picture becoming a little bit more clear, and this Vancouver game is equally huge.

Speaker 7

So you put this one behind you and you get ready for Canada.

Speaker 2

We'll definitely talk about Vancouver later on tonight. But you mentioned that the playoff atmosphere, I mean, you'd feel the temperature is a bit lower right now, it's what fifty four degrees probably it feels like October days. It feels like playoff time. And it feels even more so because

I see about draped. I don't know. There might be thirty to fifty times on this stadium a big reader board that says the word clinched because in case us that we gave you the news of the halftime show because of the results went Sounders way before this game even hit halftime, because all those results went Seattle's way. Yes, the Sounders have clinched a spot in the twenty twenty four MLS Cup playoffs, and with the win, they put an exclamation point on that they are going to be

in the postseason. Now it's a question of seeding fifth place. Right now, they're on the same number of points as a team the Colorado Rapids, who oh, by the way, they face in a week on the road down in Colorado. This race is going to get even crazier here in the final three games, and as Pete said, it begins with Vancouver coming up on Wednesday in this three match in eight day stretch. We will talk more about Vancouver

later on tonight, but Pee in this game specifically. You know, one of the things that's out in this game was the fact that we talked about this in halftime, how it was one nothing, but this could have been two three. Four thirtieth minute, knew who Rothrocks crossing to Morris comes off the post on a sliding kind of kick. You know that Jordan tries to get as much as he can on He believed in it. He made the run

and it just came off the post. Thirty six minute, great build up Morris Albert Pedro, but couldn't put it in the back of the nets. The forty fifth plus two you have Pedro and in three v two Morris running off to his right. If he just dishes it to Morris, that's a goal. And it's two nothing at halftime. This match could have been so much more than one. It's great they won one nothing, but there's so much meat on this bone, and you know they're gonna be chomping at it here over the next week and.

Speaker 6

They can walk away from that. Everything you said they know and you're right, and so everything that they feel.

Speaker 7

The same thing. So they feel like it's coming, you know what I mean. As players, you say, hey, we were really close.

Speaker 6

That one combination talked about in the thirty six minute they exchange and the movement off the ball between day la Vega and Rusnik and Morris made a great run and if Versnick had kind of put his foot on the ball and flipped it behind him, Morris was ready to carry on into an open spot into the six yard box right in the middle of the goal. So yeah, there were some good opportunities. They created a lot of

good chances. I think the coaching staff is going to say, look, look at this, this was fantastic.

Speaker 7

Let's just finish it. Look at this, this was fantastic. We just got to finish it. So Vancouver will be I am. I'm thrilled that.

Speaker 6

You know, it's a Wednesday game, We've got tomorrow off and then it's a pretty short drive. I like that drive better than the one to Portland, to be honest, and it's not the same as much as as much prettier.

Speaker 7

Well, the rivalries between the two are very different in my opinion. It's a little more collegial, if you will, between and a little more.

Speaker 5

I think it's a good order for it.

Speaker 6

Yeah, I think I think the Vancouver Seattle rivalry as a little bit more class to it. Maybe there's not the hatred, I guess, is what I would say, and so so with that there's less distraction.

Speaker 7

So if Seattle can create the things they did tonight. By the way, I thought Georgie coming off.

Speaker 6

The bench, he was good, made great decisions. He was fouled a couple of times and didn't get the call. I was surprised a boy that he is a load. He is a big man and you know, hard to knock off the ball, and he turned the corner a couple of times today. Plus his quality final product, it's quite impressive for such a young guy with so little minutes with the first team. So, you know, if Georgie gets the start maybe on Wednesday, I don't know if that's gonna happen.

Speaker 7

Paul Rothrock getting rested a.

Speaker 6

Little bit, Del la Vega getting a little bit less than we expected time wise, we should be coming into.

Speaker 7

This Vancouver game ready to go.

Speaker 2

Well, you mentioned Paul Rothrock, a bad big congrats to Paul Rotharker gets the seventh goal of the twenty twenty four not only in the last season. With twenty four season overall, he has one US Open Cup goal, he has two Leagues Cup goals and now his goal tonight in the twenty second minute his fourth MLS goal to make seven total. A great season for Paul Rothrock. Now listen, a big congrats to him. But with all due respect for me at least, and I'm gonna just take over

and I'm gonna say this is happening right now. Our Toyota man of the match is Jamart Gomes Andrade, your local Toyota dealers are product to present tonight's man of the match. I'm not sure what it was in the stadium, but pete for me. Defensively, the clean sheet the job that Yamar did. I think he might have made about

seven steps and various plays and interceptions. I mean, we know obviously his defensive prowess going back the last few years, but he made so many massive plays tonight to make sure Houston did not get any balls even close to dangering Stephen Fry.

Speaker 7

Yeah, he was good.

Speaker 6

I got a text from buddy of mine. He said, Yamar is uncharacteristically tidy. He is, He's he's a very skillful player. Reads the game release for the guy that size, yes, yeah, yes, he is two.

Speaker 7

Pounds six percent body fat.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 6

When he came and you know, you look at these men up front, you and you see them and you think, oh boy, he's a low and with pairing with Jackson Reagan, you know, and neither one of them are nasty right as center backs, they don't have that nastiness to them that some center backs have, and that frankly, the game's changed and the game's taking that away, which is probably a good thing for the betterment of the forwards they're playing against. But but he does read the game really well.

He's good in the air, it's good with his feet. He did a good job.

Speaker 7

And we just looked at the highlights.

Speaker 6

Steph had a couple of key saves, one to the near posts, there was a rebound, a good punch out in the second half. Our back line, you know, is really kind of in sync right now between knew who and rolled on the white guys and then the center guys. That's a pretty cohesive unit. And now with Obin and Christian and without JP, he was a part of that cohesiveness. Now ob and Christian are now part of that cohesiveness.

Speaker 2

I mean, you look at the last six games overall. You know, you give up one goal to LAFC, one goal to Portland, nothing to Columbus, nothing to Kansas City, the two to San Jose of course, which of course should have been one, and then the nothing here tonight. I mean that is one, two, three, four, four goals conceded in your last six games. That is pretty darn impressive for your Sounders right now. And that is the number right there defensively that can get this team. I mean,

it's frankly as far as they can go. It's just a matter of can you get by a Galaxy or LAFC en route to it to a title. So you know, really it's it's the defense first. As always, defense wins championships. And over these last six games, four goals conceded in six that is a number that will work certainly moving forward. But you got to keep it going against Vancouver coming up on Wednesday. A couple months before we take a

break here tonight, and that's that. Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC, also Sounder trans sound Trands. Ride Dash with dash Us, Jackson, Feltz and Petefield. Here on the postmatch show, Sounder is a one nothing win tonight over Houston. We'll have a lot more here on the postmatch show on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2

See Sounders win tonight. One nothing. That means we gotta play taking care of business. Christ we got taking care of business anywhere on that board there. We'll see if we can bring that one in here there it is crank that baby. There we go Sounders Broadcast tradition Sounders taking care of business tonight here at home. One nothing went over Houston, so we of course played, taking care of business here on the postmatch show. After this one

nothing win. Hey, it's time for our Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. As the music cranks, Paul Rothrock is the one who gave the Sounders their winter tonight.

Speaker 11

Back of the netty goes, the fire explodes and the fans are on their feet.

Speaker 5

It's Paul Rothrock.

Speaker 11

But the sound is up here, Lumanfield. Sound is won, Houston Nill.

Speaker 2

It's the play of the match, presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Great call there from Danny Jackson, Steve Zachlauani as well on the call tonight. Well, there's good news. When the Sounders win, you get to win tomorrow because you can down on the McDonald's app now and redeem your free Mickchicken tomorrow with any purchase of two dollars or more at your locally owned and operated McDonald's restaurant. Down on the McDonald's app today and

check out the deals waiting for you. Pete. For Paul Rothrock, I mean to pull back the curtain for everybody. We're watching this game in a booth that's about two doors down from where we are right now, and he scores in the twenty second minute, I want to say, in about the twenty first minute, about forty five seconds before that ball hit the back of the nets, Pete Fewing here turns to me and he says, old, Rothrock, look at that. He has a spark that can ignite this

team right now. He can ignite this game. Forty five seconds later, Pete Well.

Speaker 7

Called, well, you can see it right, you can feel it, you know.

Speaker 6

He wasn't as engaged, and he went to the carpet to pick off a pass, and the pass that.

Speaker 7

He picked off, he also set himself up for a good touch.

Speaker 6

He looked up, he saw Jordan and he tried to slip him through right away and it was just off by a little bit.

Speaker 7

But it why that changed.

Speaker 6

It tilted the field all the way towards Houston, and then Houston couldn't get out nearly till the end of the first half. And then he had the wherewithal. I loved that Jordan Mories did the same thing, but it didn't result in a goal. But Paul followed and Rusnik cut inside. He was weaving through two or three players and it was he had a difficult path going through the box and he's probably about ten yards out left side of the goal, and as he cut it back, Paul was there to pounce on.

Speaker 2

It.

Speaker 6

Just is very opportunistic and we've seen that throughout, you know, his time this year, and you know, Brian Schmitzer said it a couple of weeks ago, he's going to be one of the bright stories.

Speaker 7

And he continues to write another chapter now with seven goals.

Speaker 11

But he was there.

Speaker 6

And then then again, what I like about Paul is on the pass he picked off, he gave himself a good first touch and he immediately played it on the goal that he scored. He recognized it, and he hit it hard enough and he put a little bend on it and Clark and goal got a good hand to it.

Speaker 7

Yeah, but he hit it hard enough that he had no chance.

Speaker 5

He couldn't.

Speaker 6

Clark did well to get down and get a hand. But but good for Paul Roth. That goes in anywhere in the world.

Speaker 7

And I say that because I think if that's an EPO game, then that goes in, right.

Speaker 11

It was.

Speaker 7

It was that kind of goal.

Speaker 6

So it's one of those things where kids, if you're watching it home, right. You gotta follow the you gotta follow the play. Jordan Morris did the same thing. Jordan makes a lot of runs where he doesn't get the ball. Sometimes he makes runs that open things up for other people. But and then Paul had a tremendous cross to Jordan not four minutes later, and Jordan went to the carpet and got a good foot on it.

Speaker 7

But it just skimmed off the outside of the post. Then he had another one maybe six minutes later.

Speaker 6

So he gets wrapped up and then he brings others with him, plays the ball to uh Russneck and that one was off by a yard. That's too bad because Russneck, if it goes to him, uh, he has a touch and he has.

Speaker 7

A good clear look with a lot of room maybe eight yards out. So I thought Paul was really good tonight on the left hand side. And then Georgie came in.

Speaker 6

And now all of a sudden we got some wingers that you know, they're a little bit unpredictable at times, and people say, hey, Paul Rothruck.

Speaker 7

Isn't this.

Speaker 6

Paul Rothruck isn't that He loves that, Yeah, and I think he's proving people wrong all the time.

Speaker 2

Absolutely he is. If we didn't mention it before one, I'll say Greg goal and the play of the matches presented by Emeraldton Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Also want to mention that Delta Airlines is probably donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through Ray Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. We'll take another break here in the postmatch show, we'll come back and look ahead to Vancouver, and we'll also

look ahead to June of twenty twenty five. We'll explain why next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2

Welcome back to Luominfield, where the Sounders were victorious tonight with a one to nothing win over the Houston Dynamo. They jump Houston into fifth place in the Western Conference. They are on the same number of points as the Colorado Rapids at fifty. But now it's a question in these final few games of the regular season, can the Sounders get a precious top four seed in the West. The quest will continue this coming Wednesday. It's a busy

three game in eight day stretch. They actually face Colorado a week from tonight, but the this busy stretch continues. On Wednesday, We're all gonna be up in Vancouver, the team and the broadcast crew up in Vancouver this coming Wednesday at BC Place. We will have a seven o'clock Providence Swedish prematch show and a seven thirty kickoff that will actually be over on nine to fifty am there

on Wednesday. You know, also watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen in Spanish language on l Ray thirteen sixty and currently Portland came away with a one to one draw against the Sorry Vancouver came away with a one to one draw against Portland tonight. So you look at the standings right now, Pete Sounders could really put Vancouver in the rearview mirror with a win on Wednesday. Of Vancouver has been good, obviously,

they've had a solid season. It's gonna be a big match there north of the border on Wednesday.

Speaker 6

Well, there's two factors. One, we want that home field advantage, so yeah, well let's go get the win. And the other thing is you want the momentum. I thought there was I thought tonight created a bit of momentum. I thought we lost a little with the San Jose game, but we got it back today. So if you go get another one, uh, and then the next two Colorado and at Colorado, that'll be interesting. You talk about the weather change, we could you don't know what it's gonna

be like there this time of the year. You could end up with no snow or whatever. And then and then to end at Portland at home.

Speaker 11

It could.

Speaker 6

It could put us in a good spot going into the playoffs. And to your point, we want to get to the place where we're gonna play a Los Angeles team in a in a playoff game, so momentum going into that is really really important right now, Like do.

Speaker 2

We want to face LAFC in the and any round?

Speaker 4

No?

Speaker 2

Uh, But would I love to have to event I loved it? Well, would I love to see La Galaxy beat LAFC and then we face the Galaxy who we just beat three to one what a month and a half ago here at Lumen. I would love to see the LA Galaxy in a West final with a confidence

we have against that team. But again, all of these dreams and all of these wonderful thoughts means getting through these rounds, getting a top four seat, I think, and getting the points necessary to get there, and that will be a big, big test there on Wednesday once again seven o'clock Providence. We just pretty much so seven o'clock kickoff, nine to fifty KJRM for Sounders and White Cups.

Speaker 12

Really quick.

Speaker 2

Before we end tonight's broadcast, want to give you, guys, if you haven't heard, some very big, awesome news about the Club World Cup in twenty twenty five. Earlier this afternoon, FIFA announced there will be twelve United States stadiums hosting games for the Club World Cup in twenty twenty five. One of those twelve stadiums is indeed Loomin Field. Lumen Field here in Seattle will host games in the twenty

twenty five World Cup. And of course that is important because the Sounders are right now the only Major League Soccer team in the Club World Cup. There could be another one, but for right now, the Sounders are the only MLS team in the Club World Cup, and of course that being related back to winning CONCACAFF and of course being part of the other Club World Cup that

was in Morocco A couple of years go. They will part a participate in any Club World Cup next year, which is a new expanded tournament thirty two teams, which will be at twelve again, twelve venues in the US. Lumenfield is one of those twelve venues. Awesome opportunity to have, you know, teams of the biggest stature in the world. I mean, we're talking about you name it, Real Madrid's man cities. The biggest teams are on the globe and they could be playing here in Seattle.

Speaker 7

Well that in a meaningful game.

Speaker 6

We've had a lot of oh great teams that have come here for some friendlies, but a meaningful game.

Speaker 7

Here's what I like about this one.

Speaker 6

It's at a time where the Sounders are not at the very beginning of a season as they were when they went and played in Morocco.

Speaker 7

That was the very very beginning of January, yeah, February. This is July.

Speaker 6

And then the second thing that's just really fun about this is that one year so that the Club World Cup goes June thirteenth to July fifteenth, that's the same timeframe of when Seattle will be hosting six World Cup games in twenty twenty six, So pretty exciting time if you're a soccer fan, Uh, to be in this city. We're gonna be engulfed by a lot of people. I heard a stat that they expect seven hundred and fifty thousand people to come to Seattle for the World Cup.

Speaker 7

Half will have tickets.

Speaker 6

So you might want to start a hot dog stand or a kool Aid stand in your front yard because.

Speaker 2

We're gonna be Is there money in the banana stand?

Speaker 11

Yeah?

Speaker 2

I don't know, but but but five people understood that reference. Maybe I'm not one of them.

Speaker 7

But here's the deal.

Speaker 6

This will be come at a time for the Sounders that they should be up and running, and they'll put some emphasis on this as they did before in the Champions League.

Speaker 7

So uh, that'll be a fun thing.

Speaker 6

And then I hopefully we get a preview and hopefully we can get a capacity crowd here for for these.

Speaker 2

Every every game. Yeah, it's gonna it's gonna be absolutely massive. I mean, you know, who knows what the matchups end up being at Lumen Stadium, you know, Lumanfield here, you know, and who we end up seeing. But the atmosphere next June, you know, and the atmosphere of the June to follow. I mean, we're in for the next two calendar years here in Seattle for soccer. It's just going to be a dream.

Speaker 6

Yeah, well it's I've been telling a lot of people this. And here's the one last stat that I think paints a picture. Qatar the World Cup and guitar. The least Watch game had two hundred million viewers. The least watch game the Super Bowl a month later had one hundred and seventy five million viewers. So it is the magnitude of these World Cups, or these club World Cups is significant. And wouldn't it be awesome to hear you say, you know, we could have man City here, Barcelona here, somebody that

that in a meaningful game. It's it's great when we have them here for these friendlies, but that there's a different feel to it. But when it's and for Brian Schmetzer good Lord to be able to coach in one of those kind of games, that's just a and all these players. I would be standing next to whatever player I wanted to get the jersey right after the game.

Speaker 2

What's what's the dream scenario? The dream scenario is that you know the Sounders are playing a man City or a real Madrid here Luminfield and Brian Schmenzer is on the sideline coaching in a competitive match against one of those teams, not ten minutes from where he grew up.

Speaker 7

Yeah, no, that's it.

Speaker 2

He'd be standing next.

Speaker 5

It's incredible, I'm standing stuff up.

Speaker 6

Yeah yeah, it'd be standing next to Pep and saying quirky, make sure you get about one hundred and fifty pictures of this, make sure I look good.

Speaker 2

So but yeah, I always say, let's everybody save up because you might need to dump a few bucks into tickets over these next two years with the Club World Cup and then the FIFA World Cup coming in twenty five and twenty six in these Junes ahead, but Luminfield, this beautiful, beautiful stadium we get to be in. It's going to be a great place to be here over

the next couple of years. It was a great place to be here tonight as your Sounders took care of business with a one nothing win over the Houston Dynamo. We talked about Vancouver ahead. It is a busy, busy week and these standings will be ever changing. So we'll talk to you from up at BC Place in Vancouver this coming Wednesday. Once again, it's a seven o'clock Providence, Swedish prematch show seven thirty kickoff over on nine fifty k AM for the Sounders and the white Caps. One

thing everybody with the night's broadcast. Great call tonights from Danny and Steve. It's Keey here and Ryan our producers here in the booth, Terry Ryan, our engineer here on site, and of course our great board operator Christopher Kidd back in the studio Beate viewing Brad Evans great on pre half post tonight. My name is Jackson Felts. We thank you all so much for listening once again here from Lumenfield. Your Sounders took care of business, jumped Houston in the

standings and beat the Dynamo one nothing. Have a good rest of your weekend, everybody, and Fox Sports Radio is coming up next
