Welcome to the Sounders FC pre mat show presented by Providence Swedish tonight from the Emial Queen Casino Bitch at Lumenfield, your Seattle Sounders FC face Houston Dynamo FC. The Providence Swedish Premia show starts now.
Well, the playoffs are here and after a little bit of a frustrating decision day for your Seattle Sounders, we've entered the postseason as the fourth seed in the Western Conference facing the fifth seed Houston Dynamo. This first round is a best of three series starting tonight and then of course we will have a road match in Game two down in Texas on Sunday.
So here we go.
The road to another MLS Cup begins tonight here at Lumenfield where it is mostly clear skies. The sun is just setting on the eastern three hundred level here of Lumenfield. We should have a pleasant night for some Monday night football Sounders and Houston Dynamo. We have a little bit of a tighter prematch show tonight because we are getting to kickoff right at six o'clock. Kickoff right at six o'clock tonight.
For Sounders and Dynamo. So welcome in to the.
Sounders FC pre match show presented by Robin and Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC, Kellen Row alongside Jackson Feltz. Here we're counting you down until kickoff for the next half hour and Kellen, it really is that we have big coats on. The cold is here. It feels a little bit, you know, chilly in the air. It feels like playoff time. We are finally here about to see the stakes get a little bit higher.
Well, you know it's playoff season.
When he gets a little chill on and I've got my turtle neck on because postseason Eagles turning next season. It's one of those that when it gets a little colder, things get a little more intense, not only because you have to stay warm, but because the games are they mean so much more. So I always get excited when it comes to the October, November, December times. Well, I guess December back in my day when we were playing all the way until like the mid December for the finals.
But these are the times that everyone kind of trains for. I don't want to say it as the whole season was a preseason, but this is when it really matters, and this is when you know the men over over take the voice. Well, we are going to see and I'm cup in early December again, you know, as it was in twenty sixteen and twenty seventeen, where of course we hear we're going out there to Toronto, where I think every Sounder fan who made that trip to Toronto
was just as freezing as I was. So we're looking at another December MLS Cup this year, so we'll see if the Sounders can put themselves. I would happily be anywhere that. Maybe even if it's negative ten.
Degrees and the Sounders are an MLS Cup, I will happily take that, But that is a long way away from where we are right now. First game of the first round. This is the same format we introduced last year where the first round is three games or best of three games. So there is tonight, then there's Sunday this Sunday down in Houston, and then if necessary, game three is back here at Luminfield on Sunday, November tenth, and then all of the next rounds your Western Semi
Western Final MLS Cup. All of those rounds are single elimination, So that is how it works now in this new Major League Soccer player model. So with that said, let's start talking about tonight's max. Let's get the starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders. Has Stephen Fry in goal in this four to two three one from Brian Schenzer. Knew who your left back, Alex Troldon is, your right back,
Jackson Reagan, Jemark Gomez Andradi your center backs. Obed Vargas unavailable tonight he got a red card of course in that decision day match against Portland. He is not available, but good news, Joel Poulo is healthy and back.
He is starting next to Christian roll Don. In the holding midfield.
You have Pedro d Levega on one wing, Paul Rothbrock on another, Albert Rusnak, who had the most assists in a single calendars season across all competitions for the Sounders ever with nineteen he's in the middle of them.
With Jordan Morris off top.
Callen there's a lot of consistency there other than Obed of course, who's not available getting JP back in. You gotta love the ability for Brian Schmitzer to have Obed out, but right when he misses, you have JP back, you get one of those captain figures back on the field, and I know that Ovid Vargas is out and he
was kind of that engine. It's funny to say because he's sitting next to Christian roll Don, but you know, Christian's really taken on that that deeper role, that defensive center mid role where he's more of a playmaker for and a defender than he has anything else. But I think with Joe Polloll coming into the mix, a guy who has so much experience, is incredible on the ball, can play those those those dicey balls in through to Jordan Morris, over the top to a Paul rothrock wher
or in the gap to Petre j Levega. I think you want to see him maybe on the deeper side with Christian making those runs late, something that Ovid.
Vargas did very well.
You absolutely did, and we'll see kind of how that partnership works together. Obviously, Christian and Obed had developed such a great partnership. So if we can just slide JP in, you know, same instructions rock and roll, the Sounders can be looking good there in the midfield, but Kellen is on the offensive end.
This is a Houston team Sounders.
If you have the least amount of goals in the in the league, second place in the Western Conference in terms of goals, can is the Houston Dynamo a lot like the Sounders in that respect? And for Pedro de Levego, Paul Roth Rusnak, Jordan, they're gonna have to figure out ways to.
Store against these guys.
And it's been a problem all year. You know, how do we find goals? Is it gonna be consistent? Is it gonna be off with another set piece, which we would love to see, But can we get.
One in the run of play?
Can you have a jal Paulo and Albert Rusnak feeding a guy like Jordan Morris? Can Paul Rothrock and Pedro Delvega find a way to get Jordan into space and a ball in the box?
Not just one, but can he have two and three a half?
Because when he comes to Jordan Morris, he's gonna need more than one chance, and we've seen that throughout his career. But when he does get the chance and he does find the back of the net, he's gonna find another. And so can you find him in the first half and get him going a little bit. So not only in this game can he get going on the goals, but in the next few games, because we see it
with Jordan Morris. When he scores one, he starts to score three to four, and that's in a run of games as well.
The dam breaks and suddenly the water comes rushing through. Let's start that tonight and keep it going here for this entire series and the playoffs.
Quickly dive into the Providence Swedish Team.
Health Reports, which, of course every week is presented by Providence Swedish, the official healthcare partner of Sounders. FC Cody Baker and Josh Atensio were both questionable due to head injuries. They were the only two players on the reports, but we are happy to tell you that Josh Atensio is on the bench for your Sounders tonight. He is available along with a very strong bench of Nathan Rowlryths. He has Jonathan Bell, Danny Mazowski, Reed Baker widing, Danny wave At,
Georgie Manoongo and Andrew Thomas. As we are just about twenty four minutes away from kick, Exactly twenty four minutes away from kick here at Luminfield, Emerald Qreen Casino Pitch where the Sounders will start their journey in the playoffs against the Houston Dynamo tonight. Today's kind of a Kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of
the Northwest. We'll take a break and then we'll talk about these Houston Dynamo, how they are very much alike the Sounders, and how this is a game that may be very different from the one we saw between these two teams right here three and a half weeks ago.
A lot to discuss.
We'll continue when you counting you down to kickoff here on Sports Radio nine fifty km.

Away from playoffs soccer.
Here Luminfield is the sun sets on Seattle. We've begin Sounders Dynamo the first round best of three series game one year kicking off shirtly, and it's time for Tonight's sharp Vision Ponentello taking a look at these visiting Houston Dynamo. Tonight's ponent alec was presented by Sharkvision Modern LEAs and Wins, the official Lason provider of Sounders fc SO. Houston has
roared into the playoffs with the five seed. They're coming off of a big two to one at a time win over the now two seed LA Galaxy that brought their record here this season to fifteen to ten and nine just three points back of the Sounders fifty seven
points past that game against the Galaxy. They've kind of gone win loss win loss win over their last five, which, by the way, included, as you mentioned the last segment, a one nothing loss here at Lumenfield to the Sounders back on September twenty eighth, But should be.
Noted in that game they did not have two of their best players, Zekiel Ponce they're designated player that they brought in in June, as well as Hector Herrera, who is a giant reason why they were one of the best possession teams in Major League Soccer throughout twenty twenty four.
Callen, this is a Houston team that is going to pose even more challenges that they posed just a few weeks ago.
Well, it's a Houston team that is fully rounded. In my opinion.
I remember playing them back in twenty twelve, thirteen fourteen when they were still in the Eastern Conference before they kind of flipped over, and back then it was the Eastern Conference was this hard nose, run around, beat people up kind of league, while the Western was more of the.
Playmakers, was more of the pretty soccer.
And I think they've got a perfect fit of both right now in the sense that they have Ben Olsen who's their head coach?
Who is that DC United.
I'm gonna run you to the ground and I'm gonna fight you until you can't fight anymore. But then guy like Hector Herrera, guy like PONSI. Who's the players? The actual you know, the possession players, the pretty players, the ones who can actually make plays happen. And so I think they've got, you know, for me, it's Dorsey.
I think Dorsey is a nice little fit between.
He is their glue guy in my opinion, because he's the guy that's gonna run as hard as he can, but all of a sudden he's gonna play this ball.
Into the boxer going how did he do that?
And it's a dangerous team in my opinion for that for the Sounders, because they have such a well rounded team, and Dorsey a lot like Alex Roldan in that sense if it's a fullback that's going to get way up the field.
And these two teams are so similar in a lot of regards. I mean, if you look at the Dynamo, they've scored forty seven goals to Seattle's fifty one. They've given up thirty nine goals to this Seattle's MLS Best thirty five.
You know, their top goal scorer.
Their top goal scorer, all of you who's in today as well.
He has just six goals.
Boss, he's there leading assist guy with just eight assists. They don't play a lot of the score score score soccer you see out of an LAFC, but they're a very hard nose that you mentioned Ben Olsen. Their defensive squad who's a lot like Seattle in both the players, how they use them and in terms of just the culture, the make of what they want to do.
And what terrifies me is that because it is such a defensive team that it's whoever's gonna get that first goal because they know they can hold the team back. And I think for us as Seattle Sounders, we have to make sure we do punch them in the face first. We had to make sure we get in the first tackle, and then we find that goal, and we have to use our players. I'm looking at Albert Rusnak, I'm looking
at Jordan Morrison. Even the guy who did score that goal in the one zero is Paul Rothrod, a guy who's who is our glue guy in the sense that he's going to do the running but also has.
The skill as well. You don't want to be the team that blinks first.
You don't have to be that team that makes that mistake, because one mistake tonight could absolutely cost you.
So Jackson Reagan, MLS Defender of the Year finalist Mr.
Gomes Andrade, let's not have any of those mistakes. Let's make them have those mistakes with their back line, which again is very good.
This could be a defensive bat tonight.
Should be mentioned, if this game is tied after ninety minutes, no extra thirty, it will go straight to penalties.
This is that way it is for this first round.
In all three games tied after ninety straight to penalties.
So that's the situation here for.
Tonight, and for this first round we might be seeing penalty kicks here at Lumen Field.
There is a long way to go until then.
Hopefully our Sounders can get a win inside of ninety minutes. Though, wells gonna break here on the Providence, Swedish prematt Show and we will come back and talk about our players to watch for the Seattle Sounders here tonight. As we are now just about fifteen minutes away from kickoff here, you'll hear all right here on Sports Radio nine to fifty KJR AM.

Welcome back to Lumenfield, where it has started raining. Here the skies have opened up and you might get some rain here for tonight's first round, first game of the playoffs Sounders Houston Dynamo. In this best of three series, it will be tonight and then in Houston on Sunday, and if necessary, a game three on Sunday, November tenth.
Back here at Lumen.
These two teams have faced off twenty eight times total.
In the MULS regular season.
Seattle holds a great mark of sixteen wins, five losses and seven draws. I remember remember just four weeks ago the Sounders beat Houston won nothing here at Lumenfield.
But as we.
Mentioned, this is a very different and improved Dynamo team. I should also mention and knock on any piece of wood you can find that the Sounders have not lost to Houston since October twenty twenty one, five one one since then, and here at Lumen they have never lost eleven oh and two.
Just as I say that, knock on the wood, that that continues. With that, we transition into our Sounders players to watch today.
As the lights have now gone dim.
Here at Lumin we're preparing to introduce Brad Evans as are born in seventy four legend of the day. He'll be with us on halftime in post game later, but we see him get honored. Callen Want's transition to our players to watch, who are you looking at tonight?
Well, currently, I'm looking at Brad Evans.
Kind of a guy who's always been the mister sounder a word that we use a few times, but a mister sounder because he is on and off the field. He has been that team captain, that mister sounder guy, both the fans, for the teammates.
That he's been a part of, for the coaching staff, he's been a part of me.
When it comes to the word legend in Seattle Sounders history, Brad Evans has got to be in the top three for me.
So congrads to him on getting honored.
We'll see him at halftime and I won't talk him up in front of him, but I can do it behind his back. But going back to this game, he's I'm looking at the midfield. I'm gonna cheat and use Brad Evans as a guy because I'm gonna do two. It's gonna be Jow Polow, and it's gonna be Christian rolled on. I want to see how they work together are obviously very similar players. They're very quality. They have a lot of quality, a lot of experience. Is Joopolo
gonna stay? Is Christian gonna go? Is Christian gonna stay? And jaw Polo goes. They've got to have that little bit of balance and at some point they haven't played together all that often. I don't want to see both of them going lead a huge gap, So I want to see the interaction between them.
I want to see them play well. But I'm going to be very excited about seeing them.
I'm gonna go whichever winger is opposite of Gryffin Dorsey on houston side.
We know Dorsey's going to get up the field.
We know that Paul Rothrock and Pedro dale Vega flip side, So that's why I say that.
So sometimes we'll see, you know, Paul on one side. Sometimes we'll see then Pedro switched over. So whichever one ends up being off of Griffin Dorsey in the moment, he's going to get up the field if we can break him, and we can break Houston, and they're the ones to blink first. Going back to our thoughts the previous segments about which defense is going to blink. If Dorsey gets out of position and that puts Houston in
a compromising spot, we got to counter against him. We got to hit him down that side, and whether it's Paul or Pedro, use the pace, use the quality and get him there on that end. So with that said, we have just a few minutes left here in the Providence. We just premat show as we are just nine minutes away from kick here at Emerald Quing Casino Pitch at Luminfield.
Today's count down to kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen because you know, the entertainment capital of the Northwest will get Callen's keys to the match as we're just a few minutes away from Sounder's Dynamo right here on Sports Radio.

Now time for Sounders FC Sucker.
Good evening for the EUC pitcher Luminfield, where your Sounders take on Western Conference rival the Houston Dynamo in this first game of the first round of the MLS Playoffs. The regular season has coming gone and now we enter the business part of the season. Houston became the spoiler in the final game that had late late drama. The last minute goal in the one hundred and second minute from former Galaxy man Daniel Steris was the fatal blow and allowed LAFC to leap frog their city rival LA
Galaxy into first position. Houston will look to use that confidence at Lumen tonight. For the Sounders, they have fared very well at this stage of the season under Brian Schmetze. Four MLS Cup Finals, two MLS Cup wins, and lots of great memories. The twenty twenty four campaign ended strongly and the Sounders are unbeaten in the last seven games
with five clean sheets. Albert Roznack has enjoyed a career best year with ten goals and sixteen assists, and the Sounders have a league best defense to anchor their push for another championship. With Brian Schmetzer signing a new contract last week, the stage is set for another run to an MLS Cup. I'm Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders winger Steve zach Quarney here in the booth and Michelle Ludker
down on the sidelines for tonight's game. Let's get you the starting eleven for your Sounders as they get set to go here at lumen Field, Stefan Fryant goal one change for Brian Schmetz enforced due to Obed Vargas's suspension. About four of Roldan Yemar Reagan knew Who Jao Paolo steps in for Vargas in the middle of the park, plays alongside Christian Roldan, Pedro De la Vega, Albert Rusnak, Paul roth Rock and then Jordan Morris up front for
Ben Olsen and his Dynamo team. Steve Clarkin goal. About four of escobar, Zavetchenko, Michel and Dorsey Kaskia are Tour and Herrera in the middle of the park. Basi, Ponse and ali U play up front, So Steve, the players are getting going. The smokes fill in the air, the rains lashing down, perfect Pacific Northwest night. What the Sounders have to do today to get that win?
More of what you've been doing. I think you've fell the Sounders.
This is the stage you've been working all the year four and we've one of the team to arrive in this morment in the best form possible, and they have playing really well, been the strongest team in MLS second half this season alongside Miami, and I think it's a big test. It's what you played these moments for. Nothing needs to change tonight. Don't play the moment, play the game in front of you as you have been doing.
Sounders attacking their traditional north end in the first half. They're in an anniversary cook green shirts, blue shorts, white sox. It's Houston Dynamo, all in purple. Get us going. They're attacking the south end, the goal to our right BARSI plays it out quickly to Ali you far side, the left closed down by Alex rolled On. It's could have to be a good quick start for the Sounders. The Houston Dynamo lead MLS this year and I've only I've been with one team ahead of them all time in
terms of possession in a given season. That was New York City FC by zero point one percent, So sixty percent possession has been the market for Houston in their games this year. It sounds gonna have to be patient as they press, as Houston have it now in possession. Herrera didn't play here back in late September. He and Ponse we're out of the team, two big players for Houston's ball goes down the right inside the doors. He
clips off the heels of Christian rolled on. It's gonna be a first corner kick of the game, in the first corner kick for Houston Dynamo.
And I think we don't have to wonder what the approach the Dynamo will have. You went through it and they played the same way. They try and keep the ball. We saw it a few weeks ago when they were here. But it also does even expose a bit defensively. So if you're the Sounders, absorb that pressure, let them dominate, blushing at times, then you've got to play very quickly in transition to catch them on the other side.
Here's Herrera main Man, former captain of the Mexican national team, two arms up in the air this near side. He's going to drill it all the way to the far side of the eighteen, headed down, bounces through top of the box. It comes Roznack. Can he play quickly down the right inside? He does? Fast side is Pedro de la Vega is opening up his legs, striding forward defensive played by Ali You their top goal scorer this year
with six goals. No player for the Dynamo has hit double digits and assists or goals this year, the Sounders have a couple. Jordan Morris third goals on his year, career year in terms of goals, and then of course, as we mentioned, Albert Rosnack sixteen assists, ten goals on
his campaign. Another player who's had a career year really stepped up, filling the shoes, the big shoes of a certain Nico ladera mckerl has the ball building out the back sound as patient just sitting just inside the Houston half of the field, and Mickel to have the ball in possession floated out to the far side to Herrera who's going to be mobile in the middle of the park. It's good midfield our tours played every single game this year.
Keraski has just been named Conker Calf Player of the Year for his performances for Panama and for the Dynamo alongside Herrera. It's gonna be a formidable test this series Steve starts tonight.
It will be and I think for the Dynamo there's not that one threat. You're not looking at an LFC situation where one go at cliff threat. It's very much so a team effort. You went through the stats a little bit there. Yes they have talented, yes, but you can be hurt from multiple angles against this team and it's a very well built, constructed team. You don't get to pick who you play in the playoffs, but this is about stiff a testing you can get in terms of a team that can keep the board well and
he's gonna play on the front foot. They won't come in to sit back as in a wait team.
Tonight, well, no need for the host pipe. Tonight, brain is lashing down as the Sounders have a thrown far side the right with rolled on rolls it into Jordan Morris. Free kick on Jordan Morris. And as we look down on them, Michelle luka for the first time this evening, We're gonna throw down to you, Michelle, stay dry down there time.
I'm trying, Danny, thank you so much.
And as we kick things up tonight, I want to tip our caps to the Sounders marketing team that if you haven't seen them, head to the Sounders social media and check out their beautiful hype videos leading up to tonight's match, all around the theme relentless. I asked head coach Brian Schwitzer about that today and it's very in sync with what he's been saying about this team all season long is that they never quit and that just adds to the special mentality that this group has.
And when gearing up.
For tonight's playoff games, Schmitzer says, the the team's mentality has it changed.
They're so even keel.
They know what it takes to succeed, they know what they have to do, They trust in each other, and they're ready to get the job done.
Thanks Michelle, He's knew who was having a solid year. Not left hand side strikes four, plays it out nicely to us right in front of the Dynamo bench, rolls it inside to Rothrock. The breakout year for a Sounders player in Rothrock five goals on his campaign. You had a couple in League's Cup and US Open Cup. Big year for him as Sounders that possession middle of the park. No better player, of course than Shao Paolo to step
in for Obert Vargas. Christian roll Dan continues to play in the middle of the park, and see what he made if Christian Roldan's position there. It feels like he's so comfortable.
He's been pritty Danny. Honestly, I think Christian has to come a wild this season to get going. He gets moved around a lot, sort of a victim of his own success. Very similar to a brad Evans, where they're
so versatile you can use them anywhere. But since coming century, I mean he's been you know, we talk about Jordaan and talking about Albert, he's been as good as anyone Christian Rodan has and he's played well no matter who's alongside him, and what he gives you is he covers so much ground it allows the other players around him to get freedom. You'll cover for Dinna Vega, he'll cover defensive for Albert Russknack very good.
On the ball because he's been truly back.
To his very very best. And it's nice to see him tonight back alongside JP. When you speak about strength and death, if that's what you're bringing in when you're missing a player, you're in pretty good shape.
Yep. JP comes in Raoul on the bench, of course, top goal scorer of all time for the Sounders eighty six goals. His crib all goes into Dolva. Can he pick the pocket? He does inside the eighteen yard box towards the end line cuts it back strike watch well by the back four of Houston, but picked up by Christian roll don try.
To cut it.
Tod Bins almost finds it. Good saved by Clark and the Houston goal. But good pressure from the Sounders.
Yeah, good moment, go sustained pressure there. Excellent on the counterpressed by the Sounders. It does end with Christian roll down with the shot, and there wasn't too much power on the shot. It's good high, it's going towards that corner. It's a strong hand in the end by the goalkeeper, but the sound is doing a good job of maintaining the pressure there. And now'll get their first corner of the game.
Get the first corner of the game. Fartside the right. It's gonna be an outswinger with Rosneck's right foot. Sixteen assists on his year go short this time it's all off the training field finds Alex rolled on top of the box as the wriggled clear didn't quite work out. I'm sure that the Sounders and Andy Rose had designed so all goes all the way back. Hector Herrera clips the heels of Reagan right in front of Ben Olsen. See we're not gonna harp on the refereeing decisions in
the last game against Portland. But the referee seems to be smart and not giving away something silly. It's just a free kick for the Sounders.
Yeah, agreed with that.
And it's playoff football. It's playoff intensity.
If you want to let something's go, you want to let the players on the pitch the side the game. And as a referee, any of the assistant referees as well get involved, only if from when you have to. Aside from that, we want to see a free flowing game and none mind's a bit of physicality.
Owners get set. Referee slow but surely is backing away Sounds attacking the goal to our left north end. Shimmering lights of downtown seattles sit behind that lower north stand. Fans are out in the rain. Sure there's some still in the concourses watching the TVs. Wait for the spring to subside. We'll go square. Alex rolled down against right off the practice field. As Jeamar holds in this nears
like go see Yamar has it heads down. Here's roth rop ball pops up headed clear by the dynamo and then Herrera does nothing more than just launch it into the night sky Long knocks it long, we'll play by the sounders off that free kick, Steve.
It was very good and you actually maybe won a bit more from that because Jem gets is a great position in behind the back line, tries to head it back across cold which he does, just couldn't find a fellow green shirt and that's a big opportunity that in the end wasn't by great work on the set piece by the sounder.
Houston Dynamo fell asleep for a split second. It fell out, the chance had gone. It was slow to materialize and it was a good delivery from Alex Roldan. We talked about alexis one goal, one assist this year, disappointing on statistics, but saying a slightly different role to play for him with Dela Vega in front of him, still try to work out that partnership. When Delabat goes inside, is that the chance for Alex Rodan to slide up in a
more preferred higher position on that right back spot. The balance of knew Who in these latter parts of the season, it's been good to see knew Who feeling more confidence in terms of pushing the ball forward, being forced to stay back as he picks the ball up side steps Karaskia. Here he goes down the left hand side, A little heavy touch towards Dorsey, who just slashes it out comes off Knew, Who's going to be a throwne for Houston on this near side. Ninth minute here at EQC Pitch
Luminfield Sports Radio nine fifty KGr AM. Wherever you're joining us, thank you on the way back from work to or from shorts practice. We appreciate your joining us. First round of the MLS Playoffs, first game, best of three. Sounders will host tonight, they'll host in two weeks and then in the middle of that. They traveled to Custon next weekend. But there come the sound is cheap giveaway by the Dynamo, a lot pushing the back, nothing given by the referee
eventually does give it doesn't let things transpire. Took a minute. Player's a little bit confused. What's going on?
Rock?
Rock's still on the deck. Silly fell given away, but I think it's Horrera. Maybe it's our tour in the back, the chance to deeds that quantity for the Sounders in a free kill.
I'm not sure why the delay because there was no advantage. Obviously, if I think it's a foul, I mean it's then it's a foul. But it was a bit of a delay. Then there's definitely some confusion, not only amongst the fans, but amongst the players too, and the Dynamoi weren't quite sure if they will be penalized of Sounders wor if they will get in the calling their favorite either. But as it is, it's in a very very good position here.
Albert Russnack has been really good on set p as well, and for the Sounders early on getting a few set pieces.
You want to make one of these counts.
Rosneck left corner of the box just a few yards outside at eighteen, so it's right angle, but it's with his right foot. Two men in the wall ten yards away, Steve Clark in the Houston Gold just organizing the two which is Keraskia think and BARSI Sounders big men are in the box to be a Sean goal or is it gonna be a delivery to that back stick. Jackson Reagan good solid season in terms of goals for him, three goals in the regular season, one goal the League's
Cup here comes Ross. He's gonna whip it in towards the back stick as Rothrock down to the side. Netting's asking for a corner kick. Nothing given by the assistant referee on the far side or the referee inside the eighteen yard box. Rothrock asking for a slightly different decision. Three goals from the last three games against the Dynamo for Rothrock two this year, and we're.
Just getting the first chance out of replaying.
I mean it may even be off the arm, to be honest, and that definitely was off a Dynamoe player.
You can hear it.
By the booze from the sounder staff. They've seen a replay of that on the screen as well. At the minimum should have been a corner kick.
For the sound of it was Dorsey on the back post pressure from Rothrock. It comes mckel plays it short to Clark. He says, the new style of build out for teams these days, building out of the back insidder eighteen goes along too. Karski. It clips it down the line towards ponce. I'm gonna beat Yamar there they might just win. The ball slashes it clear with his left foot, picked up by Dorsy. We'll played by Rothrock just nips in front, picked up now by JP and then Rothor
tries to flick it around the corner. Jordan Morris has it, We'll ball into Rothrock inside attacking half of the field, rolls it out to the far side of La Vega. Warthrock goes down, referee asking for an advantage. No real advantage there, foul was obvious. The referee let things go. It's causing a little bit of confusion for both teams right now.
Steve zach conning, this is very It's been refed very strangely here because he's not pouring the foul on that occasion. Doesn't look like it if that was an advantage, it's the choice advance. It's the biggest disadvantage advantage I've seen because there was no advantage to it, and it ends with a Houston Dynamo throwing when you at least should have had a foul on the sound as of another
free kick. He doesn't give it. He's trying to let things go, but a bit indecisive in how tight you want to support this game.
What's interesting, you know referee as a human as well, he probably watched the last game and maybe took it upon himself to be a little bit more open, let things go. It's Ted Uncle as a referee today's games, great experienced in the middle of the park. The Sounders build on the far side the right, good start to the games. The more goes in behind. It almost catches
out Michel, but he slides clears the Lions. He's gonna been thrown for the sound as twenty five yards from the corner fla fastide the right with Alex rolled on goes back to Yama. Fifty two percent possession for the Sounders. So the last game it's Houston. Houston came into lumin Field and almost got that sixty percent mark that they've hit all season long. Sounders right now be able to control areas of the game. We asked Brian Schmitzer about that.
He said they did well last game. They got their goal, they were patient in their build up, patient and their press were pushing it back by ali U On de la Vega. There was down to be a free kick for the sound It's not a dangerous position, but that a chance to reset. But de la Vega, Steve is finding his feet. Bryan's talked about it as well, both in the press and in our production call that it's getting stronger, getting fitter.
He is, and I think we wanted him to arrive at this point of the season trying to find his best form.
That was the whole and I think there's still more to come from him.
I think, especially a couple of weeks back the game will wait in the Colorado Rapids where I remember him being.
Subbed off a kind of his sixty fifth.
Minute mind the way it was, and you can see the fire in him. He was upset, he did not want to come off, and he's beginning to have a bigger impact. And for how well George was playing, I think you can justify Delavega being a star.
Where is that man giving away by Herrera? A couple of times in this first fifteen minutes already is Dela Vega strikes it half cleared, picked up by our tour ever present in the middle of the park for Houston this year finds Eli on the far side. It comes Houston in possession, Barsi, Herrera, Keraskia, our tour, really good quartet. In the middle of the park. Here they come broke
out well far side the left. What goes in top of the box almost finds coonse but cleared by the sounders pushing the backs and a couple of times that the midfield has found those times it's been the consistencies. Eventually is gonna find that yellow car, Steve.
And that's the thing. So it's not the same player.
But I think that times when the team collectively is doing a lot of these nippiky fowls, not allowing sounds to get into their rhythm. You've got to send a message at some point by just booking someone because Houston donam would That's four or five times now the sound has tried to get in transition out of quick fouls occurred and refriged to spot keepinanda.
So sound is built. Now the bet the rain has stopped. You're gonna throw it down to Michelle.
Yes, of course the rain has stopped.
And right now in this moment as we speak, Associate producer Ryan Karnes is bringing me upon scho so that is why the rain has stopped him taking full full responsibility about but a huge shout out to Ryan, thank you for that so so much. But while we have a moment, I want to talk about Albert Rusnak. His numbers speak for themselves. This season, I mean last game, his sixteenth assist that came on Decision Day that tied a previous single season record that Nico M Darryl held.
That was also his nineteenth.
Assist and across all competitions, which is a single season club record. He also has had twenty six goal contributions this year in MLS play, ranking second in club history, right behind Oba Fammi Martins, which was.
Thirty in twenty fourteen.
And we asked Brian Schmitzer about today and just what is about him that makes him so special, and of course he said, kudos to him for all those amazing statistics and the hard work he's put in this season, but what means the most to him is that he shows up in big moments like taste game.
Thanks Michelle. Yep, Sounders have the ball fast side the right. Can you find it now? It's a good struck ball the outside. The foot just drilled it into de La Vega couldn't quite hit the player in sad the eighteen rolls out this near side for a Houston throat.
It's a good idea that a Vega. I can see exactly what he's tried to do there. He hasn't worked quite right, but he's trying to drive a ball that will be very hard to defend across all of that six yard box, a little bit too much high on it, sounds gonna get on it.
But right now it's all one way traffic the Dynamo.
We're not seeing sort of that control and possession they had the first time they were here this season when out here recently, Yes, a couple of the ideas decent passing, but dangerous around the box.
It's all one way, so sound as and.
Frying much a spectator right now, sitting back there, just outside his eighteen yard bucks decked out in all yellow today, Houston in purple tech and the goal to our right, they have the ballard doors seat, awkward clearance, finds JP good strike on goal right down the gut of Steve Clark, saves the ball with ease, goes down, just kills a few more seconds on the clock. It feels like it's game management. And these games, let's just remind everybody ninety minutes,
no extra time. It'll go straight to pks if it's a draw at the end of ninety We need to find a winner in each of these three games. If it goes to three. Of course, Sounders were two to one winners in terms of games last year in the first round against Dallas. It's gonna be an interesting concept we'll talk about Brian. Is that you know about subs and about the way that teams play.
Yeah, I thought that was a great question we asked Brian in our production car there, because you normally know you make it change out at sixty fifth minute or things like that, but not and if you go into a game that's going that's a Cup game, you're not bringing on your best penalty takers on.
You're you're very closely than in extra time.
Now you're thinking about that within ninety minutes, not just bringing on a player to win you the game, but maybe someone who's coming on if the sports stays the same. But they're very good from twelve yards. So it does change sort of how you approach out the coaching stuff.
Yeah.
So addresses the notion of home teams as well versus away teams. Away teams, of course, remember a handful of years ago when RSL came in, didn't have a shot in goal one hundred and twenty minutes. They want in pks all goes in by Dorsey inside the box first Florrie forward for Houston. Ball bounces brilliant by Rothrock, just drags Dorsey down eventually Uncle cause it Dorsy let the ball go. Didn't go out of bounce. Rothrock as ever, chases the ball down. It's a little dive signal to Dorsey.
But it's gonna be a free kick. And these are the areas Steve, as much as roth Rot will be disappointed with the decision by the referee, these are dangerous positions.
It is.
You don't want to give a team that struggling to create through the run of play any extra incentive. And set pieces are just that, the extra opportunities, extra chances.
And he gives a dynam when I was a chance to.
Really get the board into the box into a dangerous area. We'll see how the delivery is here to sounds, keeping eye line right around the penalty spot.
But you don't want to give teams too many of these.
Here's Herrera one. I'm up in. They have this right hand side, twenty five yards from the end line. Ball goes in headed up towards the back stick, just over the top. It goes It's gonna be a goalkick here at EQC Pitch, lumin Field. Twenty minutes gone Sounders nil, Houston nil in this first game of the first round of the twenty twenty four MLS Playoffs. It's actually Dunning reminded us just before air. Every team that's played at home as one so far started off with Miami. It's
Atlanta down in Miami. They've got off the board very quickly in the first couple of minutes, came out two to one winners, most recently Cincinnati getting a win. Today it's New York. We're getting some of those other results. The game goes along, but for the Sounders all that matters is today. Can they travel next weekend? As he mentioned to Houston, we'll see who they play and if LAFC get their win against Vancouver, be a great showdown.
Sounders can get through this series between LAFC and the Sounders. The free kicked for Houston on this near side. The Sounders FC Socker is presented by Provident Swedish because your healthcare partner Sounders FC. As Michelle mentioned, it was been rosnecking. It took him a little while to get going, Steve, but once he get going, he really got going, got the sixteen assistant ten goals.
He's been fantastic and so many game winning moments. Michelle mentioned it where he's shown up for the team and it's not, you know, in the four nail win only of the big wins, it's two one games, one nail game for where he's been a difference makeup, even in creating the goal for enough usual Jordan Morris all for himself. So I think there was a ton of pressure coming into feeling the shoes of Lecoldero and they're very different players. But Alberts found his groove. He's found his space in
this team and he's thriving. Aside of Sounders.
Houston had the ball inside the center circle with our tour slit Chenko. He's John bench for the Sounders. One missing player, of course is Vargas tend to your back concussion protocol on the bench. Paul gets flipped towards the endline and Dorsig comes off Rothrock's asking for a goal kick. He gets the decision from the assistant referee on this near side to track it back from Paul. One thing you know about mister Rothrock, he will work both sides too.
The field and see we've talked about rus like, yes, the pressure was on him to fill Ladero's shoes, but let me expect Paul Rothrock to have the breakout season that he did.
I mean, just what a story. I mean the addition he said, especially when you consider the sounds. For a long time this season struggled to find someone consistently, especially out right midfield had to be Christian all down around f midfield where Neil che was in and out. Should that be Jordan around all at times We'll find himself out there. The emergence of rough Ruck to be a consistent outside friend has been a sack to behold. And because he does it both sides of the born, it's
easy to become a fan favorite in that way. You won't always razzle dazzle, but you know you're gonna get ninety minutes or more of pure effort, inspiration, passion, or those things from rough.
Ruck to de fires a Pacific Northwest player or goes in behind and there's another one. Jordan Morris picks it up right core of the box support by Della Vega. Morris saw him, couldn't quite get that came off the heel of Michel and then or goes back to Alex Roldan Jackson. O Reagan will mention congratulations to him. Defensive Player of the Year candidate for MLS as all the votes came in last year, it was Yamar and I think Jackson mentioned in his interview after getting that nomination
it really could have been either one. I think Yama has really kicked it in as well. We talk about the stout defense. It is a back forward, is a goalkeeper, but it's also the midfield two in front that do create that protection.
It is and we are Schmets there for and Lisa, listen, we've been good defensively for two or three years now, among the best in the league, if not the best. And yes it's Jackson, great recognition, but it could have been anyone alongside that back line. As a team, from the front all the way back. The Sounders defended really really well, very hard to break down. Lots of clean sheets,
especially even in recent weeks. So you have to think for the Sounders, you always think, if you can find a goal, no, Jordan Albert, go get me one.
We're gonna keep things tight back here.
I always felt that way playing with Kasey Kennell's early years where if we can just manage to get one, we have someone who saw good back there or strong defensively, we have a chance to at least tie the game, if not winning.
You have thirty five goals against this year, best defensive record. Last year they tied the best defensive record with Nashville. This year they stand alone at the top of the table. Houston have had a good Stella year as well defensively, thirty nine goals against. Here they come now, Boll slipped it towards ponce, chance goes around Freight just closed out the angle. Well picked up far side by. Ponse could close down by, rolled on, Ricochets finds the foot of Herrera.
Lott step over towards the end, like goes past. JP cuts it back top of the box, strike just over the top. It's gonna be a goal kick for Stefan frying the Sounders here in the twenty fourth minute Sounders nil, Houston nil steeps.
That Quinny one insane, So they've not been that dangerous up and play and then right there in a flash bang look when they show up.
So I think for.
Hold on, that's Stepan five rolls it out all shifts across the Jackson Reagan. They filled out the back and as it's a Christian rolled on has it harried by PARSI finds new who he drives forward towards the Houston bench, picked up felt given by Ted Uncle as he runs away. Just to shift away Kaskia. We're gonna throw it down to Michelle.
Thank you, Danny.
Coming into today's game, Stephen Fry has ninety five postseason saves. That's the most among any active goalkeepers.
You also said.
There that the Sounders this last season had the gave up the least amount of goals with thirty five this season, and we asked head coach Brian Schwitzer about that earlier this week, and he said that it's really a huge, a whole team effort when it comes to the defense, and that staff in particular, that he's really impressed with the defense of his offensively minded players, the Jordan morris Is, the Pedro de la Vegas, the Raoul Ruy Diaz, that
all of these players understand that it's a team effort. They've all bought in and they all hustle back whenever they can to help out support on defense, just the way they should.
Yeah, thanks, Michelle up Brand's always been consistent with that message. It starts with the front. Jordan Morrison certainly picks up that message this year as well. Hustles from the front. Sounds have done a good job of pressing, being more direct in their press and if reaped the rewards at times during games. So it's timbers. They on the balls. Several times Bull goes intowards Alex rolled on. Good defending by mckel. You can do is head it over the
end line for a sounder's corner kick. Far side the right. Sounders are knocking Neil Neil here in the first round because the fans have made their way into the stadium, the rain are subsided, the sound is now on a slick surface. The chance to put some good delivery in with rosnet far side the right, it's could be an outswinger. One arm up in the air. Big men are up, rolled down GPS sitting on top of the box. That's
time it went short. Rough Rocks just walking around the hands up in the air saying I've done nothing, done nothing. Horse roth Rock has been the thorn in the side of the fences and he's talked about the fact that outside backs have figured him out somewhat. They've been watching video. They know that he makes them slashing runs in from the outside. But he's continued to be a threat. And
it comes with us and out swing. It whips it in towards top of the six, headed away by the company of I think it was this Escabar and ali U. It's gonna be another corner kick for the Sounders. It's gonna be Rosenick again. Far aside with his bleach blonde hair. Eleven men inside the box for Houston's we mentioned thirty nine goals against this year for Houston, third best in MLS. That's behind the Sounders and Charlotte. Here comes the ball top of the six, headed down, Here's roll Dance slashes
it over the top. There's a quick snapshot on the half Volly goes over the top. Goal cap remains no nil.
What a chance? What a chance?
That from Christian Roadan The Sounders have had a few set pieces, haven't taken advantage of it yet that one forces the Christian Road down for as good up there as he is, he's gonna one. That one back can't hit the target, smashes that it in the.
End, there Ah.
It was a good, decent technique, got too much under a Christian roadan and could not keep the ball down.
Sounders are knocking. We've been here before, of course, when the sounders have had the advantage in terms of chances. Stephen Fry has been quiet so far, had nothing to do. There came a sound as pressing on Steve Clark. Ball given away by Clark under duress, finds poor. Rothrock rolls down the line to Rosneck. There's near side the left challenged by Karski a lot flick of the outside of his foot to Rothrock goes back to new sounders built again. Eleven men behind the ball for Houston to try and
defend Steve Clark's goal Neil nil. Here twenty ninth minute Sports Radio nine fifty am sounders looking to try and get that win. Build the foundation for game two, which is next Sunday, three point thirty Pacific. Sounders will be on the road. It's a nice little break between games. Sometimes these games and these first rounds can stack up. Here's the ball in behind Jordan Morris, willing runner just
skips by. Can he find it could defend him by Svett Schenko just got his body between ball and player. Sheppered it back to Steve Clarker came out of his goal and collected it.
Well.
That we haven't seen enough of Jordan Morris, the in behind Fred for how good of a player.
He is this season and stuff like that. I think he's even added that to his game in recent weeks. Again more where it's becoming more of that in behind Fred.
They we've not seen enough of that this afternoon, this evening yet where the Sounders have been danged around the eighteen, mostly on set pieces as well, but just for the run of play for Jordan's sometimes just take off. You'ven Alex rolled down Albert Russnade Christian wrote down JB guys back there very good. I could have been basing behind And that's a thread the Sounders can tap into a little bit more.
It comes Houston fast side the left with Ali your top goal scorer for Houston this year with only six goals struck wall from one side of the field to this near side by Herrera finds the chest and doors who brings it down. World just comes inside. Just Vet Schenk, who did a good job defending Jordan Morris and the ball in behind. He clips it towards the back stick headed away by yame I. He finds the feet of
bars he left corner of the box comes across. He cut all inside to allie you could defend him by yam Or reads it well, can you poke it away? Herrera finds it left channel through the legs of rolled on. A little bit of pressure from JP felt. The pressure from Ponse goes down inside his eighteen yard box. Gonna
be a free kick for the Sounders. This copyrighted audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. As we mentioned, there was all sorts of games happening around the league this weekend. Miami got a two to one win against Atlanta United. What's our friend Garth Logway down at Atlanta for the full time coach. LA Galaxy dominant win five nil against the Colorado Rapids and their
first game down in LA. And two games yesterday Orlando City to Charlotte nil. Charlotte the second best defensive record in MLS as we've mentioned, And then again last night LAFC two to one winners against Vancouver whitecapsh of course, had an absolute dominating display against our friends down South Portland Timbers shocked to think everybody in terms of that score line. But you've seen that the chances come with Vancouver,
they've looked good. Now they get the players like Stuart Armstrong back who's been a big pick up during the season. Ryan Gold scored a couple of great goals.
They're gonna be a threat, yeah, is.
And one of the surprises for me has been with this format that no away teams has been able to pick up a victory because you'd think the shackles off, you can play the three games, you have that and they're just not for not waiting to have found a way to pick up a win here when you know you'll get a home games. That's been a bit surprises for me. But Vancouver it's one of the dark horses
there for years. We've been waiting for him to kind of wake up, and it looks like this year he's a team that can makes a noise become.
The sound is making some noise with the crowd. Royal wrath Rock bought transitioned to Rosneck now middle of the Park strokes it out to De La Vega square, tries to find rath Rock picked up by our tour and then cleared by Escobar. White footed player playing left back get shifted across to now down This left hand side goes back to Jackson. Reagan square across the field to Yamar, rolls it in to Michel, challenged by Jordan Morris, clicked
down the line picked up by rolld arm middle. The part of seeing Alex Roldance skip inside from that right back spot. It's a more central position over the last couple of weeks. As he tries to find pockets of space. There's Dela Vega fast had the right comes into Alex roldt difficult border control isn't able to bring it down, picked up by Kaskia, hustled by the Sounders in Dela Vega falciven by Ted Uncle just on top of the Dynamo's books. The fans don't like it. You don't like it.
There's gonna be a foul for the Dynamo and we'll introduce so mister Brad Evans, who was presented at the beginning of the game as alumni of the match. Congratulations, thank you.
It's pretty fun out there.
You don't often get to hear the brad Evans with the crowd cheering it. So it's always nice to go down there and hear that. For I've heard that one more time. I've heard that a few one more time.
I'm sure there'll be other times. You've seen your face on a placard go up and down and racing at halftime.
The crowd just any and everything at this point, get.
What you can get right, they come the Dynamo left hand side is escabal. Are you ready got the ball? Left channel tries to skip by out shore, Dawn stands up well, good defending by the sounders.
Right back.
Vally. You rolls it all the way back to Michael. So you've been down on the field side. What's the thing like? It was raining first? Now he's dried up. You making the sound to start to this game?
Yeah, So it started raining on the pitch when I was down there and really started the downpour, and you saw the Houston Dynamo players starting to slip around quite a bit. They've got their footing ever since, but I was surprised they came out. It almost looks like a four to four to two when they're defending maybe a four or five to one, and I think the Sounders have definitely had the better of play. Watching from Afar, it seems like the past a couple of minutes, Well, Hostin's up there game.
Yeah, Bullward ten bounces through, kicked away by l Eu. It's gonna be a goalkick to the Sounder. Is here in the thirty to fifth minute QC pitch Lumanfield Sports Radio nine to fifty am. Sounders nil, Houston nil in this first round, first game of the first round of the MLS playoffs.
What you've been impressed by Houston is that they've come to play, They've come to high press when every time the Sounders have a goalkick, you got three players inside the eighteen just baiting the Sounders to make a mistake, and if you can break that pressure, you've negated four or five players on the field. Now it's just a matter of the Sounders actually getting forward and combining up top, which Houston's done a good job of compressing the game
and playing very tight defensively. We're just waiting for that one chance for the Sounders to unlock things. In the past ten to fifteen minutes, watching from Afar, Rod Rockin and Pedro de la Vega haven't been too.
Influential in this one so far.
I do think ted Uncle's calling a much tighter game than than last week. Of what we saw here at home against Portland. Seems like every fowl he's blowing his whistle. Who hasn't really let the Sounders get into that real rhythm of play that they want to in possession.
Here it come the Sounds. Can they find in opening this final ten minutes of the first half giving away slowly by Yamar in the middle of the park. That's what an away team wants to do. Pick up these pieces. Ball goes in behind to Ali pacey left sided player against Yama. Of course, Yemar reads the game well. Ali, you try to knock it around the corner, trying to beat him on the one touch. DeMar has none of it,
picks it up well, Here come the Sounders again. In transition of all shifts center to the left, Rosnack sliding sliding across his left hand side, right in front of Ben Olsen and the Dynamo bench. No real pressure as he strives forward, goes into Dela Vega top of the box. Can't wriggle free Escabar goes down, wins the ball, Coonse picks it up Kara Skia. Houston look comfortable in possession
of course sixty percent. As you mentioned, flick around the corner by Elliott Noisty done by the Houston left sided player finds Bassi and Herrera. We've seen these games before, Brad, when the Sounders have had the better of chances but haven't been able to find the goal, and then sometimes that those second halfs can get a little bit difficult
at times. But it feels like with the Sounders confidence now coming in with clean sheets and the way they're playing bred, Stephan Fry really has nothing to do.
Yeah, I mean, Stephen Fry hasn't really had to make a safe just yet. And on the on the flip side, Steve Clock really hasn't had to make a safe to a couple half chances for the Sounders.
But you can see a post a few weeks ago.
But Hector Herrera just provides that little bit of confidence for the squad in Houston to play under certain pressure. When he's not in there, you can see it's a real different. So Sounders just have to be careful because at any time Hector Herr can can unlock this this Sounders defense with you right, the killer instinct from.
The Sounder is just not there yet.
But I talked to Schmidz as I got to shake his hand before I went on stage, and he was a little bit concerned that Houston might come out and play really defensive as they did last year and that's how they advanced. And so now I think it's open for the Sounders here, Schmitz. That halftime we'll go in saying, hey, we have a chance here. We connect our passes and play through the lines. We've got an opportunity to go well if the Houston.
Have never come into looming field and got any type of winst dominant in recent times as well. It comes rolled on, slides it in. John Morris almost found it. He does, pick it up top of the box, holds it square, can roll down the far side, pick it up. It slides in between Della Vager and rolled on, but e'scus him to come away the ball good quick pressed by the Sounders. Can they win it? Click around the corner by Karoski and a good play by Houston outside
of the football just opens up the field. So it's near side to Dorsey advanced from his right back spot Karoski and support from behind all goes back to Karaski.
There's roth Rock, good defending. That's Dorsey again. Sounders get men back behind the ball, just as Brian Schmittz would want to see good team defending as della Vega just slides in now when when's it well middle of the park skips by, Escobar draws it in as a little heavy on the pass walls suit to Michel sounds out a channels transition.
That's the one that you want from de la Vega, where he's just gonna have patience and he has to connect that next pass. You see the difference in the mature play from Hector Herrara. It's the same exact ball flicked out wide in front of the in front of Dorsey running on and that's the one where dala Vega has to play that ball into space so that Rothrock can get there some.
Footing the ball, no real pressure to the Sounders spend like it matters by supporting bipop and diverse owned businesses all year long. Visit intentionalist dot com to find a business near you. Thirty ninth minute here at Blumenfield Sounder's nil Houston nil. Our tour has it for Houston. Farst side the left is ali U played into BARSI skipped by Yamar. Well Houston maintaining possessions, starting to tick up their possession count now fifty three percent. Possession for Houston.
All goes down the line to Keraskia JP until so far slide back in the middle of the park for a good number of weeks out from the starting lineup. All cleared by Yamar. Sound as left men behind the ball just absorbing some pressure now from Houston and in full voice behind the gold bouncing up and down, flags waving. I have to see the Sounders find a gold in these last minutes of the first half, all cleared by JP, putting inside by new to Christian roldal or reverse ball.
Jordan Morris in behind tries to find it as delavaging all the space in behind the back four. He's frustrated with himself. He had space to play, he wasn't able to connect.
Houston have it well, that was the chance for the Sounders right there. What more could you ask for? Houston give it away. It's a little bit of a jumble day. Lavega missus spass and Jordan's got eighty yards of space to run onto that one. That one's gotta be played in the space by Dayla Bega.
It's funny that first ball was in behind, the second ball was and it was almost leu reverse weed.
And a half.
And that'll happen in the playoff game, right This is day la Vega's first playoff game here in Seattle, so I think the expectations are high. He's got to feel some pressure right now after you know, not bagging a goal or an assist in a significant amount of starts for him to get his fitness.
There's de la Vega tries to whip the ball into the middle of park to find Rosneck cut out by Herrera. There's post side to the ball, so well play defensively building out the back and also of course has the ability to strike in the attacking third of the field. But the statistics standpoint, Herrera not had a great season. One goal, three assists on his campaign in twenty four, has been hit by injuries at times. Last year, four goals seventeen assists on his campaigns to war to Ali.
You finds Varsi clips towards the back stack towards Ponsi heads the ball aways by Reagan, picked up by Della Vega's comes off his thigh, rolls out to Michel. The forty first minute neil Nils Sounders playing in front of another packed house here at lumen Field. Maybe rainfall. In the early minutes, Ray has subsided sounds fine a goal ball slid out now to Jordan Morrow has picked up by the sound is here come The sound is in transition far side the right. Dela vegas the ball square.
He strikes the ball over the top, just slashes it wide. I think that's what has been a little bit of the knock on pedro De LaVey. He's just chasing the game too much. Bill goes hid WHDe goal kick.
No, No, he's wishing for it to happen. He wants it to happen so much and to score that glory goal. But you saw there Rusnak at the top of the d just begging for that ball, and the way that the Sounders have put the ball in the back of the then it's some good combination.
Play in the past four or five weeks.
He just he has to trust his game and trust the players around him that if he's in a good position, he's gonna get found.
And sometimes as a winger, you're.
Running just to create space for others. And when you're driving with the ball forward, you're twenty yards out. Take what the game gives you. There's the yardage in front of you.
Get a little one too.

One thing I noticed with Hector Carrera is and I think I've said this in years past, and the way that he floats around in his body movement.
He plays like Clint does.
He's probably the most similar player to Dempsey that I've seen in terms of the way he moves the ball, hits the ball with the outside of his foot, his creativity. It's not on the same scale, but it's a similar type player because we forget Clint was at number six in New England before he transitioned to his European goal scoring career, and he has that same body movement where that he moves it's really.
Fun to watch.
Yep. Clint dempsey twenty five goal contributions were the highest for him and the Sounder's career. It was Rosneck Whold just bypass that by one single goal contribution this year. Of course, Dempsey so many great years of Fulham. It comes off from one on one against Dorsy, drops his right shoulder, comes in, his left foot, goes over the end line. Cornerkeick sounds here in the final minute and a half for the first half. See all the referee will add, but for now it's gonna be a sound
as corner Caick. Can they find a goal to put themselves in the locker room? One goal up, Neil Nail right now.
One thing I see from Paul Rothrock in that situation, you got the shimmy shake, but then it's a full recoil, the left leged across the ball.
It's got to be a quicker release.
And then Dorsey can't get his foot out to block and the ball gets slipped in across.
Here's rustling right in front of a band of Houston Dynamo SUPs. Balls could be whipped him with the right foot towards the backstick towards Jackson. Rag and headed down. Bounces sliced up in the air. Reagan goes up again. He looks at the defender. I don't know why he looks at the defender. You got a chance to go win that ball in the air, and somebody to take his eye off the ball. Look at the defender. It's gonna be a foul for Dynamo. Chance for the sound has gone.
You're six foot five. The only thing you should be doing is looking at the ball there. Instead, he tries to get a bump and maybe trap that ball on the ground, but everyone's waiting inside the box for a knockdown. Jackson just got to be big there, get up and challenge and be brave.
Well. Discount Tire get thirty short to average weight time when you buy a book online at discount tire dot com. As we tick towards the end of forty five. The only old ching the Sounders in Houston, first round of the playoffs. Bill slice to the far side to Ali who has been quiet in the attacking third of the field. Stephan frying, Really is that not much to do at all? Two shots for Houston in the first half, no shots on gold, and that's the fourth official puts the board up.
One minute of added time. All goes into Jordan Morris held up well. Referee allows the play to go on. No real benefit for the Sounds, but it does ricochet off, rolled on to Morris towards the end line, cuts it back easily collected by our tour. But it's de la Vega tried to drop a show towards the end line towards Michel. Good play by de la Vey, good hustle by the Sounders. Number ten earns the corner kick. Sounders can get one more chance here, What a chance to.
Score here going into the locker room.
We always know, right going in the locker room, right when you score a goal could give you just that boost of confidence. Come out in the second half and now you just like I've said, you have to be brave. The big guests got to be brave. Is no time left on the clock. Every challenge matters.
One up in the rosneck fast side, the right amstring of his right football goes in headed up and away by Zevette Shenko, headed down by roll down back to rosneck fast side. The right got some space, can come forward to de la Vega, turns his left foot, goes all the way back to new who his right foot to the far side and there's Ted Uncles. We're sold to bring this first half to a close neil nil between the Sounders in Houston rad your final foots.
Yeah, overall decent half from the Sounders is say for putting the ball in the back of the net and really testing Steve Clark. I think Houston's coming in here to play, and that is an advantage at the end of the day for the Sounders that they can just really string together some passes. They know that it's gonna take a lot of hard work. This Houston team they're trying to right, trying to break the curse of coming in here to Loomenfield, and so they put in a great effort so far.
And now it's up to the Sounders to come out in the second half.
Keep your heads high because you know there's more to give for these guys.
We'll take a short break. Don't go away, Jackson feltz Kelen Roade. We'll be back to break it all down halftime Here at EQUC pitch a lumin field sound as nil, Houston Nil.

Forty five minutes in the book Sarah Luminfield in the first game of the first round of these playoffs, the three game series between the Sounders and the Houston Dynamo, and it's zero zero after the first forty five minutes of this series. Jackson Phelps and Kelen Row here for the halftime show. Kellen Mountain too much to speak of. A lot of Houston fouls, a lot of what could have been big Sounder chances, but we still see.
Zero zero right now.
I mean, it's the most Monday, rainy Monday game that there is. It's a little bit on the boring side. You don't see all that much. And when you do, like you said, it's flashes, and it's not the right flashes. We talked about it off air. We have all these chances. As we're going forward, we're bursting, we just won the ball. We're actually maybe numbers up or even, which is what you want on an attack, and we don't make the right run or we don't make the right pass, and
it's sloppy. It kind of comes into nothing and then we have to go backwards again, and we looked at the stat of possessions and actually it's fifty six percent to Houston, which surprises me because I like the way the chances that we had. But it's just been one of those you know, chess matches, I guess they say instead of saying boring, but they say a chess match of a game.
It certainly is between two coaches and Ben Ols and Brian Spencer, who love they're defending. These are the two lowest scoring scored on teams in the Western Conference, with the Sounders having the fewest goals conceded.
In the entire league.
But the way the Sounders are creating there what could be chances these.
Long bowls, a wrong run, a wrong pass. It feels fixable.
It doesn't feel like Houston is, you know, nailing us defensively and just not letting us get any slide in into the final third and we're just having to pass around.
That's not what's happening.
It feels like this is a fixable thing that the Sounders can find a way to score on.
And I like what's happening is that we're first to the ball. You know, we're at home we're on the front foot the balls that do pop out off across or the balls that just obviously there's a fifty to fifty we're the first ones too, and I like that, especially the first ten minutes.
I mean, you saw Christian moul.
Dance shot that you know Scott over the bar is not an easy one and bounced right before it got to him as he's you know, defending as well. But it's we're the first ones to the ball, and I think that's the best thing you can have, especially because it's a playoff to end of the intensity needs to get stepped up and you see it sound especially.
As a home game. Hopefully we do see that.

Taking a look at the Sounders bench tonight.
It includes Nathan josh Oftensio, Roald Ruy Diez, Jonathan Bell, Danny Mzowski, Read Baker White, Danny Lava, Georgie Manongingu.
And then goal Andrew Thomas Callen.
As we look at that bench, and we look at a zero zero game right now, what are the keys to getting a goal in the next forty five minutes? And maybe who could help off that bench.
Who can help up the bench as the guy we've seen many times, he's that spark and that's Georgia Mungo.
He is that guy.
But you look at what we have out there at the moment, a guy like Joe Paulo who hasn't played all that much. He's had some injury problems, and so we've got to make sure that he's gonna be okay. You know, maybe a Danny Leva, josh A Tensio.
But if you wanted to.
Spice things up, because we want to see Georgie on that field, do you bring Georgie on pole? Is a lot of move in here. Poll Albert back.
Next to Christian and put Petro de Levega at the ten to keep all your part teams, you know, intact.
But you also got to think of it as a you know, this is also the first game of the three game series. You want to be defensive as well. So I see Danny Levo kind of jumping in there. He can handle the physicality, he's good on the ball. He can kind of push Christian gold On up to have you know, let Danny Leva be at number six. But there's so many options, and there's so many puzzle pieces.
As we talked about those chess pieces that coach can move around It's an interesting flexibility there in Josh Atencio available as well. But in terms of what the coaching style is talking about, I mean, if you're in that locker room right now, what are the conversations about what needs to happened? Given that we've seen a lot of attempted runs and attempted passes. But whether one or the other has been off, it's just been off by a little It's been one of those that you kind of

Welcome Sounders fans back to EQUC pitch at lumin Field. Second half about to get underway. Sounders in a huddle in the middle of the Fielders they get set to kick off. Here Ted Uncle deck to have an old pink tonight. The referee hands the ball to Rosneck. Sounders in their anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts, white sox. They're attacking our traditional second half goal, the goal to our right, the sound bend, and then Houston Dynamo in there,
all purple kit. Tonight they're attacking the goal to our left, the north end and if you look down, no substitutions to speak of for either team. Rosnecks about to get ready to kick off, and as soon as we get going in a moment, we'll get you those lineups. The Sounders. They had a couple of chances in that first half,
five shots with two shots on target. As Rosnack gets us going back to the defensive Player of the Year candidate Jackson Reagan, Paul goes into roll Dan little connection of ten Uncle, which the new ruling says if it comes off the referee, the referee will hand the ball back to newho but knew who had had possession of the ball already, so Ken he just scratch ahead sometime for common sense. Paul goes out to this near side
to Dela Vega. It's Ali you. Paul goes square into a roll dance, flick it towards the end line, towards Dela Vega. Good play by Dela Vega. Good defending my ascobar. It's gonna be an early corner kick for the Sounders. No, it's not said. Uncle makes the change. The assistant referee on this near side calls it and it's gonna be a goal kick. Sounders nil Houston Nils would get this second half underway. So let's get you the lineup for
the sound of Stepan. Bryan Gold, the defensive best back for rolled on, Yemar Reagan and Knew who Christian rolled on alongside Jobe Powlo comes into the starting lineup today. Oben Varga's got a red card against the Portland Timbers and the last game, yes his suspension. Today is the ball goes over the top. Let's getting the rest of that lineup shortly, Aliu has it. Striker's left foot goes wide of Seffer and Fry's goal. It's gonna be a
goal kick. Let's getting the rest of that lineup Pedro Dela Vega on their right hand side, Albert Roznek and the ten Paul Rothrock on the left, and then Jordan Morris up front. Ben Olsen's lineup Steve clarking goal a back for Escobar, Sevetchenko, Mikhael and Dorsey, Keraskiya, Artur and Herrera in the middle of the park in a combination of Varsie, Ponce and Aliu up front. They come the sounds.
Can they find a goalie? In the opening goal war goes into Morris, just gets bundled over by the big, powerful frame of sevet Chenko, but the ball giving away towards rolled on through the legs of Barsie. It's nearside the right. Good play by Dela Vega, cleaned up well by Yama, slides it square across to Knuho. That's Paul Rothrock cuts in towards de la Vega. Sloppy pall by Dela Vega giving away to Karaskia used to build out
the back. Strong in possession as ever, sixty possession throughout the season, best in MLS, second best of all time in MLS, sitting on fifty five percent possession. Now as they stride forward middle of the park to BARSI rolls it out to this near side to Alie. You you'll step up towards the end line. A lot of the six just ponce in front. Go kick given by ten uncle means nil nil Brett. We'll get to Michelle's comments
in just a second. In terms of Brian Schmitzer and his thoughts, they walked down the field together, but what do you make of the first off going to the second half and some of the summers that are warming up there.
Yeah, Look, I think the Sounders have to try and implant themselves on this second half. And how did they do that is with good possession. You just mentioned it.
Houston is a possession based team, and how do you disrupt that. You keep the ball in pivotal moments, but you have to do it with a purpose. So you can't just knock the ball to a center back and back to another center back. It's got to be in advanced positions to really move this Houston Dynamo defense, because you've got to be playing chess when they're playing checkers
and sitting in defensively. So it's by movement and I want to see Pedro de la Vega and Paul Rothrock interchange a little bit come inside make it difficult for this Houston defense.
Here's Rothrop towards the end line. He goes left foot into Jordan Morris the outside of his foot. No corner, caick, give ing boy it's head uncle. Good play by Rothrock. Sound is able to shift it from center to the far side to left and then Rothrock has he is done already in that first half. Jeb says, right shoulder, pushed it towards his left towards the end line. Cutout, Well, it's gonna be a first corner kick for the sound.
Well, Dorsey's a fast player and so up to Paul Rothrock too.
When he sees Dorsey's step and make a step towards him, that's when he has to take the advantage that Dorsey's a little bit wrong footed and push it bast him. That that time he does really well to get around. It's just about picking out an attacker at that point.
And swing up by Rousno comes in toward the top of the six head up by Sevett Schenko. Down goes Jordan Morris. You already see Georgia Minungo started to strip off. I wonder if Jordan Morris's gonna clash there. Maybe there's something else beforehand. But as the sound does, medical Steff get ready to come on, We're gonna throw it down to Michelle.
Thank you, Danny.
As I caught up with Brian Schmitzer coming back out of the half and he said overall that he was really happy with his team's performance in the first forty five minutes, saying that they were just so close to putting real pressure on Houston by able if they were just able to get past that last defender.
They really talked in the locker room about being more dynamic.
Excuse me, but he said, really, they just need to secure that first goal and then this entire match can change. We've got some substitutions here coming in a moment, but for now, I'm gonna sign it back to.
You, Danny Well, Tet Uncle, Thanks Michelle. We're just seeing from a vantage point. Tet Uncle picked the ball up. Tip means it's gonna go take a look at something, see if he's gonna make a call here. Jordan Morris went down a look like as maybe a poke in the eye by on Jordan Morris I think he's going down as well. I think he's picked up something. As Jordan Morris, we saw him on that play by roth Rock.
He looked over to the bench and maybe signaled that something was wrong, as Michelle mentioned, right in front of Michelle's he looked down and Georgie Wan then go getting ready to come on and ral Ruy Diez. So really interesting quick change up here for the Sounders here just a few minutes into this second half and Michelle as they get ready to make a change and Jordan Morris is on the deck, we're gonna throw down to you.
Yeah.
I talked to the coaching stats. Two changes are going to be coming for the Sounders right now. Georgie will be coming in from Pedro de la Vega. They tell me that they want a little bit more speed and that one on one presence on the side. Also, Raul Ruy Diaz is coming in for Jordan Morris. I've been told that Jordan was feeling his hamstring towards the end of the first half and that the plan was to
pull him now for precautionary reasons. So again, Jordan Morris was feeling his hamstring to the end of the first half, they're pulling him as a precaution.
Thanks Michelle. Yea'll be interested to hear Brian's comments in the end of the game. Why maybe Jordan wasn't pulled halftime but given m Ago maybe and he's just not feeling it. But I do get a sub age you mentioned. Petro de la Vega comes off frustrated with Brian Schmitzer as he walks towards the bench, understandably, so I think Brian will appreciate some frustration coming off the field. And there's Jordan Morris as well coming off the bench coming
off the field. No better player to come on the field than Raivroyds eighty six goals all time for the Sounders. Will this be his swan song? And there's playoffs for the Sounders. Fantastic career has Raoul had for the Sounders. And we'll see what happens next year. But is he gonna be the X factor in these playoffs? Can he find goals to add to his tally? When you make those changes, Bread, I'm scratching my head.
What just happened? I'm not sure I've ever seen that before.
A double sub in the fiftieth minute one obviously for injury with j and if he was feeling something at halftime. If I'm the striker, I'm just coming off the field saying, hey, I've got the hamstring is bugging me. I got to come off the field to make sure that I'm ready to go for the remedia.
Of the season.
And then you saw lob de la Vega five minutes into a second half, obviously frustrated.
It comes off left corner of the box towards his left foot. Again it's gonna clip it in comes off the back of Dorsy, finds the foot of Keraskia, pressured by knew who inside his eighteen yard box. Referee easy callers who just Hustle's not about a place to give up a fowl inside Houston eighteen yard box. But I's talk about rail for a second. You know, it's been a frustrating second half of the season, a combination of injuries and of course Jordan Morris being on fire in
terms of goals and his level of play. But you know he's got a chance now. He's looked lively in practice. Brian Schmetz has mentioned it to the press as well, but it's been had the right attitude look good in practice. Now coming back from injury, can you get those goals that sounds needed in this run?
Yeah?
I think he can.
And I think at this point, if you're gonna tell me that Rowel's coming on a sub with forty minutes to play, I have to be happy. And if I am Raoul, I'm stoked to get forty minutes. Right, I don't want to play the last ten minutes of every game. Give me a chance to show what I've got. And I think he'll do that tonight because he's a guy that certainly plays with pride and passion, but now he's just got to get the job done.
And for a guy like Raoul, if he knows.
That Jordan's out, sometimes as a striker, this is your opportunity to go right. You should be healthy, you should be pumped up to play, and now you just get after it and get in this game and hopefully get on the end of himself. And oftentimes we've seen subs come into the game where the Sounders are down one nothing.
The Sounders don't have to chase a game necessarily right now.
Now the Sounders can just play and Raoul can feel free, doesn't have to feel rush when he gets the ball to be forced to get a goal.
Wait for that right opportunity to come on.
But you notice you saw Pedro de la Vega walk off the field there and he's upset. He's not shaking Schmetzer's hand. He wants to play and to come off as a player if you're healthy. In the fiftieth minute, that's a little bit of a slap in the face. So, like you said, maybe it's motivation to push forward.
Good play by Raoul? Is he nipped in front of Herrera and that's gonna be the first yellow card of the game. It's gonna be on Herrera.
Is that?
A couple of nigglie fouls in the first half got away with it. Now this time he clatteres into Raoul, who's made the most of it, I hope, because he slows get off the deck. But good chance for the Sounders and Rosnecks put in a delivery into the eighteen yard box. Free kick for the Sounders. And do you feel, Brad, this is the type of game it's so tight. Set pieces are gonna be really important.
Yeah. And Houston Dynamo is a big team.
They send every single player back and they were good this year defensively, right thirty nine goals against I think only to the Sounders thirty six, and so a stout defensive team, big bodies, it's gonna take special service. But right now the Sounders have Raoul Jamar and Jackson in the box to receive this one. So look for a little possibly trick play like we've seen in the past. And sometimes that's what you need when you play against
a big defense. You gotta move guys around in five final one on one situations in the box.
Yeah, raw worried he has making his little run as Georgie Manungo holding his position way on the right hand side is near sight run from the assistant referee's on his hunches looking across that line. Houston hold that line, goes to Georgie.
Go to chance.
Now picks the ball up Eli you gonna try and defend, doesn't defend, goes to Woods the end line, cuts it back, Bull bounce it around Yamo is left for George's right foot strikes it. He had a chance deflected wide by Houston corner kick. Sounders were then knocking on the door and Georgie manung Is added a flat to the.
Team but that's why he's on the field right. There is no one in this league that can stop his first two steps. I'm not sure there's anyone that can actually stop his first two and that that is a god given talent that this guy has it. Yimar does this smart thing, brings it on to his right foot, and if it's not for a Houston defender standing there just turning his shoulder, comes right off his back.
But the Sounders have to build off of that, right. It can't just be one and done.
Here, good service in the box, get on the end of this one and send this crowd into a frenzy.
There's a quick look up onto the board to see if it was a handball, Seamar and Dorsey getting involved. Ten Uncle has to separate the two players. Of course, got his goal in the last game sixteenth as Sisters
of the season for Grosneck. Here he is right foot, whips it in towards the top of the sixth four, bounced up, headed by Dawson and hook clear by Barsi, all bouncers just inside the Sounders half of the field, headed back by Knew, who chased down by Ponsi all the way back to Stepan Fry in the Sounders goal.
The question is what would you give to have Georgie's first two steps in your back pocket?
Can you imagine being a central defender having as me? I mean, it's unbelievable. And you know the great thing about Georgie is he's such a nice kid. I mean, you see Brian just beaming with pride when he talks about Georgia because he's come through adversities. Of course, had some scares himself, and we'll get to that in a minute. But here he is now right hand side challenging now by Escobar. What goes into rod Ruy Diaz to JP towards the end line? Could Georgia get there? He can?
Good cutback to JP, flicks it up, pops up in the air, headed clear by Escobar and then Barsi and then Herrera. He used to do a good job of cleaning things up. But sound As are high pressing. Can they win the ball? Flick around the corner by Karaskia. Good build up finds Karski. A step by Jackson Reagan to get needless he steps in, played by the copycat player of the year Karaskia and there's Yama. No better defender in the league and stepping in and winning the
ball interceptions. Year over year, he leads the MLS get another stellar season for Yeama. What goes into roll Dan Sounders now just gonna pick up the ball because there's the ball in the back line.
Well.
Sound as I've Seen Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner Sounders FC fifty ninth minute. Here you q see pitch. Luminfield Sports Radio nine fifty am. Sounder is Neil Houston nil first game but the first round of the MLS playoffs, and the Sounders find that opening goal. Here comes the sound is down the right hand side with Manongo short to ruy Diaz looking for the ball. Active. It's coming on the field for Jordan Morris. All plays
into well, gone into Rudiaz. It's underbox strike, just wide, just snatched at it slightly gold kick fork Houston and Steve Clark. Remains nil nil, but Brad Evans it's Manungo and Ruyiez showing a little bit of flair in the attacking third of the thin.
We knew it was gonna take something special and it's these two players that are just linking up here and it's a great throughball. Ruidiaz just slashes at that album and he'd like to have that one back and just hit it on the ground far post. If he does, Steve Clark's got to get down and just get up on it. And you've got two or three Sounders inside the box ready to clean it up. But again you've
got to be watching from the sideline. If you've just come off and seen Manoonoo make an impact in his first five six minutes and he's touched the ball four or five times, that all of them have been positive and gotten the Sounders in good position and a couple half chances in those when we.
Had to adjust. Of course, last week it's pulled it because we went down a man. Now he just so the other two master with just because we have two different players with different skill sets.
Yeah, well now you go, you play. You play the game as it should be played, right, That's what we talked about. They get a full forty minutes to come in and make an impact and not have to chase the game. So take your chance. If I'm the Sounders, I'm getting the ball to manoon Go as many times as possible, and then Ridiaz his job now is to occupy the left center back right.
That is his job for the remainder of this game.
Here who wins the foul? Well, put under pressure by Kara Ski on the far side of the field, he puts his arms up in the air and I'm calls the foul. Sounders are able to build now now listen.
I've played right back against speedy players for it in Conker Cap especially, and I've constantly asked the question of the center back to come help me out whenever they can.
As Georgie around, Escobari goes just loses that second touch. But again, just the ability to explode past the defenders. And Bret, let me ask you this. I mean as a defender yourself, just like me, you know, you adjust your game because of that speed now and that opens up the field for other players as well.
Yeah, of course it'll open up everything on the backside for Rothrock to come in.
Oh bogibogi by players in the middle of the part ten. Uncle just standing back, this need to be smart to play around the deck for the sound. Is that Jackson Reagan maybe is a little push something slaps the back of the head.
To hug Karskia got into it there.
Jackson may have took the worse of that one, holding his face right now, trying to come up. And if if it's hands the face, it's got to be a red card sent off. Let's watch the replay here, it's a yellow car. Jackson's over the ball, Karski comes out of nowhere. If we need to get a clear picture, yeah.
We'll see what happens. Said uncle, We'll take his time pulling the players back. I think so.
Certainly a yellow card here from JV to stop the play. It's fine, tak yellow.
Yeah, a good professional found in the middle of the park. Stop the counter attack. Jackson. Reagan needs to be okay, maybe made for most of it. See there's another push in the face by Karski on Georgie. You know, emotions are gonna be fined up. It's the playoffs. It's what you'd expect. It's being kind of slow to get going this game, but it feels now it's ignited somewhat.
Yeah, look, and that's gonna be a playoff game. As he reaches into his pocket here, probably a yellow card for Karskier.
Probably the right core relative to the game. You don't want the game to be spoored because if.
We can't see the replay, then it's there must be nothing there. Really, it's just him trying to get the ball to put it down and play, but it's a yellow card. Karski has got I know that the referee has to put it in the book. It can't just play quickly. So it's just emotions, like you said, getting too high. But the Sounders can. If I'm a Sounders player, I get together and I say, hey, let's build off
of this, right, use this energy. You get that jolt of like testosterone and everything's in your system, but you got to be able to use it in the game because you know that Houston's going to be ignited.
At the same time, well, I was making a.
Quick mention, Steve zac quarney, you had to leave us. Got ill joined that first half. We hope he feels better. There's one stat that was going to bring up when he was on air. Steve za Quanney was the first player for the Sounders ever to score in the playoffs back in two thousand and nine. So Steve, if you're listening, congratulations on that. You'll always go down. It's the first playoff for the Sounder is to score a playoff goal, hopefully for the Sounders tonight, to get him a sixty
third minute neil nil. The Sounds can find a goal to put themselves ahead. It's a quick reminder that if it does and all square after ninety minutes, it will go straight to penalties.
Well, it looks like ten uncle's taking his time here just a little bit. He's definitely listening upstairs, as Var has certainly said that there was something there. Now they're just triple check in to see if it was if it was like we said, hands to face, or if Carskia came in and kicked him. It'd be great to see a replay on this feed, but we'll just have to guess for now.
Oh, here we go, Var and the crowd know what that means. I think they're excited because it should be a check for a Houston Dynamo player. Karaskia walking around having a conversation with Raoul. He knows he might be in a bit of danger here. And as we know, Brad, when when the referee gets dragged to the side to look at the screen, somebody's in his earpiece has said something or something's happened I'll let you take a look.
It should be well there it is right there from Karskia on Albert who.
Was a kick See that kick his left foot just kind of kicked out at rosneck didn't make contact.
Oh yeah, missing that on the first one. Yeah, he definitely can't kick out. I mean, I've done fake headbutts and gotten red cards.
In the bass, But it feels like one of those ones when you're gonna remember a fight and he kicks the one but away.
That's that's that's soccer for you. No one ever comes to fist. It's always the kick kick.
It didn't run.
The only thing we know.
What the push is this o tool just dragging away rosnet. But I think it's never kid. You see what Refree does say it.
But as you talk about the potential loss of Karskia, right, he's the guy, like you said, conkor CAF player of the Year, and that's a guy you can't afford to miss going into these playoffs. And if that's a single decision of a kickout and he loses the rest of this game with over thirty minutes to play, there's a referee decision.
You there's an accupy contact by number twenty on Houston, it's always Red Car.
Now they lose him for not just this game, but the one down in.
Houston, which is massive for the Sounders and kind of a huge issue for this Houston Dynamo team. And now you might see him shift, make us up and play more defensive and just hope that you get to pks in this one.
I think you're right, there's gonna be a shift defensively now. Obviously with ten men playing away from home, they know that they could just get to that ninety minute mark and a lot of chance to win the game still, but now the owners will be on the Sounders, and you have to think the players on the field are the players that Bryan Watt's got. Georgie has already caused problems, Raoul who's a goalscorer. You also have to think Rozneck. You know, he didn't go down, He didn't try and
fake something from that kickout. It was more the intent versus the actual connection that Karskia made. The lector law says that whether it's contact or not, it is the intense intent the intent.
Maybe that's why I got my fake headbutting Red guard in Vancouver. Was the intent.
To head up, But like you said, I think at this point of this was a situation Brian would be making those subs regardless. But now you gotta figure out as a player, you've got ten to fifteen minutes under your belt. Now there's no excuse to work your way into this game. The Sounders have to push now, being a man up, they have to go and they have to score and win this game.
Well, we'll see if Ben also makes this up to kind of change things around. You can obviously naturally drop a player back like Barsie in the middle of the park. Let's get the rest of the Sounders bench, Nathan Tensio, Bell Masovski, Rit Baker, Whiting, Andrew Thomas, and Danny Labor with Minungo and Rudiaz already on the field. There's the crowds shout goodbye to Keraski as he walks into the tunnel sounds. Now you need to take a breath. Do you have to defend this free kick? You'll expect. Now
the Sounder is gonna have the majority of possession. It's a factor now of can they find the breakthrough, put the ball on target and beat Steve Clark. The ball gets shifteds nearside the left to Aliu, top goal scorer for Houston with six goals, and believe it's with their most number of points in a MLS season this year fifty four points on their season fifteen ten and nine when he forty seven goals scored at thirty nine given ups.
That's allowed him to push up the table. Gets a fifth position here they come now with Barsi twenty five yards out strike. Good block by Jackson regas he slides down blocks the shot. It's going to be a throw in eighteen yards from the far corner flag in Houston's right hand side, in the hands of Dorsey.
We've already seen Houston Dynamo keeping that possession even though they are a player down right.
And that's that's a sign of a quality team.
But anytime you go into a deficit on the field, it seems to be that that team with ten men, unless they're punished by the Sounders, they're going to be able to keep the ball more than more than you think, especially with Bossi, Herrera and Artur in that middle of the park. And now the Sounders just must keep good quality possession. Don't do silly's turnovers. And you gotta make Houston move, you gotta make them run, you gotta make them work because once one comes, two and three comes
following after that because Houston has to score. They're not playing for overtime, they're playing for PK, so they're gonna have to push as well. And now it's up to the Sounders, the ten guys that are on the field playing save for Stephan right, they have to figure out this chess game and where the advantages are with.
The remainder of this half.
And it's the bounce and give nothing away easy because if they do go forbid, give up a goal, then plays right in the hands of Houston. So Sound as you play on the front foot, here they come. They aside the right with Georgie. Recipe has worked so far with Georgie and Raoul. In the fields. The ball get shifty cents it fast side the left with nuds left foot whips it in towards Rothrock up in the air
by our tour headed cleared by Herrera. Ten men top of the box for Houston, just hacking it in there as the ball goes down towards the end like left hand side to Roth Rock tries to slice it towards the back stick to take a deflection, though it doesn't. It's gi me a goal kick for Houston. Here in the seventieth minute QUC pitch luman Field Sports Radio nine to fifty am Sounders nil, Houston nil and the score that is presented by provident Swedish sounders are putting some
high press. Now Raoul top of the box. Roth rocks a couple of yards off the top of the eighteen yard box. The ball goes long out by mckel up to ponce heads the ball on. No, nothing happening for Houston and those balls, because we're gonna have to hold their position. We expects see Escabar on this left hand side hold his position deeper now as he tries to mark Georgie. George Zoradi stamps his authority down the game so farward. He set his presence up, picking the ball
up wide. As Danny Laver gets ready to come on. And we'll must like to expect JP to come off the field. Let's start a game and good while now it comes Houston ball one looked like he won. The ball did roll down, but prero us his experience goes down free kick inside Houston's half of the field and it's gonna get the Sounders and Houston a chance to make their subs. So as Danny Labor, we'll see what the expectation is in terms of play. Yes it is JP.
We thought he might come off the field. Good shift by JP. Those are a better player to come into a starting eleven for Obed Vargas and JP. Good performance. Danny Labor now earned his stripes in practice, gets his chance alongside rolled down attend to you of course is on the field as well, and it's Varsie Offen.
Yeah, well, look, I think JP has served his purpose today, right. He understands now at his age, coming off an injury, he's gonna have to have a wonder game to work his way back into this starting lineup. But today, fantastic work from JP to step in provide that defensive cover. And now it's about Laba being a war attack minded player to get forward. That's the It's the one you don't want from Laba to just step on the field and pick up a yellow card.
The first thing he does is steps in. Win's a yellow card. I didn't know who's going off towards the referee Trent and plead his case is the first involvement for Danny Laba's a yellow card as they get set up for this free kick before it down to Michelle.
Ironically enough, the Sounders assistant coach Freddy Worre is telling me that the reason why they brought in Danny Lava for JP was to protect JP because he also has a yellow card. Obviously, we don't want yellow card accumulations because if you get yellow card accmulations, then.
You mentioned missed the following match.
So definitely something to watch now that the player that they brought in also has picked up a yellow card.
Well, if you're Dandy Lava, you have to just keep a clear mind now right. You got to know that you can't get into any challenge. If a player is going to scape past you, there's no tugg into the jersey.
You just let him go.
As a ring comes down, Sounders get set for free kicks. Could be Herrere's gonna whip it in with his right foot headed clear by roll down. Well, Escobar with his weaker left foot clips towards the backstick, headed back in by Dorsey strike just over the top by it gets Kavalchich, the substitute came on for Barsi acrobatic ever goes over the Severn Fries crossbar for a goal kick. Sounders nil, Houston nil. Here Kovalci is a.
Like for like with Barsi, although he'll look to close this one out and play a bit more defensively. But he has a flair for the acrobatic who've seen it in games past, and Houston Dynamo is gonna play for those set pieces at the end of the day. The sounder's gotta be careful, come.
The Sounders, which Georgie tries to whip the ball in doesn't go out of bounce, saved by Alex Rold on his near side, Brian Schmitzer in his technical area alongside Preckage just organizing sounders. Did he find their way again? A good momentum just before that red card. Now things have settled down, it comes Georgie clips it between Ali, you and Escobar. It's gonna be a free kick for the Sounders. And I can say every single time Georgia gets the ball right now he's causing all sorts of
problems for Houston. This time's gonna be a free kick.
Well, I think That's why Precky is up on his line.
He's moving his fingers back and forth, and he's telling Alex Oldon that when Georgia gets the ball, Alex Holdan has to tuck inside because it almost negates the double team right who it allows in that situation, Yes, it was a double, but you want Alex inside so that he can provide a Houston defender to come in and he has to be aware of him at least, And it takes a little bit of magic there from Georgia to split two defenders at winnifree kick it comes.
Russ and it's near side the right, sixteen yards from the end line, tucked in from his right hand side, Houston holding their line just inside the pka's abot ten yards or so from Clark's goal. Ball gets whipped in towards the back stick back in by Rothcrop, headed Clearvit's Sevetchenko strike by Lavor slices it wide, snatched at it from twenty five yards to Danny Lava. It's gonna be a goal kick. Sounders need to find their feet now
playing against ten men. They'll get the chances. Now, it's about executing.
It's already been six or seven minutes since going a man up, and you haven't seen too much of the Sounders in possession, moving the ball back and forth.
And this is what Houston will do now.
They'll take forty five seconds to a minute off the clock, and all of a sudden, it's going to be the eighty fifth minute and the Sounders wondering why they haven't gotten a shot on goal even though they're a man up.
Ball goes along for mikel challenged by Ali. You flips it forward. Let's copyright you. Audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. First game, first round of the playoffs for the Sounder is here at lumin Field. Brow rudis asking the referee for some kind of card. Maybe. Of course, we've seen it around the world now that when you ask for a card, you
may get a card yourself. But it's been tackled a couple of times from behind the Sounder by Sounders. Get the ball going quickly, played again to what's been working is Georgie double team? This time to ally you. An Escobar tries to flicking around the corner goes down, nothing given by the assistant referee, just stending a couple of yards away from that challenge. It's gonna be a thrown from for Houston.
When I've seen the double team coming from Alu every single time direction from Houston Dynamo's bench, and so Georgie's gotta figure out how he's gonna how he's gonna negate the double team, and the Sounders have to too. It can't just be Gamar coming up from behind, because that's what Houston wants. So it's got to be an attack minded player like Alex or Albert coming across to help Georgie.
We'll flick towards the end line. Roze can get there, whips it in low hit slightly picked up by Georgie, clatters into again nothing given by the referee. Sounders have it top of the box. Paul goes out to this nearsight to Alex, rolled on Georgie making it run down the line. He'll cut back with his right foot, comes back to Alex, Danny lab and support plays it short to Georgie again. Aliu trying to defend and can't do it.
Georgie drops a shoulder, comes back calls it to Danny labor On for GP makes a little run inside after giving the ball up to Alex, finds Georgie's foot again, sounds patient in possession, trying to find an opening. Gooson holding the top of their box. Rosonate now farst side the left, New in support as is Rothrock has the ball towards his left foot, comes back on his preferred right foot. That to Rosneck. Sounders just trying to find an opening in five yards or goes some center to
the right to Georgie Whipton in his right foot. Good Paul Daniel Laver challenges There's now.
With his left foot.
Strike smacks into the head of Michel, who falls to the ground, gets back up again. Sounders have it rolled On, tries to find the top corner of his left foot, bends it wide of the post. Goal kick remains Sounders Nilk Houston nil As mckel takes a knee after getting a RiPP shot from New straight to the top of his head.
Well that's all what you wanted from the Sounders and went left to right, right to left and back again, waiting for that one on one opportunity.
Orgie doesn't even take on his defender.
He just whips that ball across and that's about the most well struck strike I've seen from New Who today. The little half volley perfectly on frame where it should be, and he takes out once straight square in the head and is obviously feeling the effects of this one to step off, but I think he'll be fine.
Just rattled the brand.
It's a little different when you're ready for that ball, right it's the one that catches you on the side of the head when you're not ready. But when you're bracing you see that one coming, Usually you step on, don't feel too many effects.
Sounder's knocking on the door now. Ten shots, the two shots on target, so Clark really hasn't a to do too much in terms of saves. Fifty to fifty percent possession right now. Between the two teams you mentioned when Houston came here in late September, they much about sixty percent in possessions. Sistant referee right in front of the challenge between Escobar and Georgie puts the sounder's favor. Lex
troll Don has the ball in his hands. Michael is back on his feet in the field after the medical stuff came on just for a moment to check on him. Here comes Jackson Reagan, defensive Player of the Year candidate for MLS this year to Rosneck. Career year for the Sounders in the regular season sixteen assists, ten goals for the Sounders, number eleven. The Sounders come again. There's nearside
the right. Seventy ninth minute here luminsfield drop the shoulder by Georgie just gets away from as slightly as Herrera can't quite get there. Maybe a couple of years ago he could have got there. Cully a sounder's throwing. Sounders are knocking, crowded in full voice now. Then the Sounders put a goal on the board, put them through. In this first game of the playoffs, we'll go square to Rolled Eyes, gonna wind up and strike one good block by Herrera finds Rozack in the eighteen yard, buts can't
quite find his feet or gets clear, comes off. Kavolceic clears his lines flipped up in a way by Yemar finds the foot of Georgie through the legs of Esca s what comes back challenges him foul give him by ted Uncle. I think Escobar Herrera tour surround young Georgie. Let me realize he's becoming a bit of a thorn in their sight.
Well, no matter what you do, you send a double team, triple team, it seems like Georgie is able to get through it. And he's not just built on speed, right, He's a big kid. It's so it's tough to get off the ball. And that's a matchup that you wanted. Was pulling out Hector Herrera out to that wing. And now you'll see Hector he come off the field. But it's that matchup that Georgie wanted, and he got the better of him there with a little nutmeg as well.
And I think they're saving Hector Herrera to make sure that he makes it through without a yellow card to the next game at home in Houston.
A couple of changes. Latif Blessing come on the field, and that too too. Draw earlier in the year was Latif who got the two goals. Former LAFC man. Of course he's gonna come on the field for Hector her.
This is the one here where Albert Rusnak has put this ball far post a number of times. I think he's got a whip this ball near post in that little gap as hard as he can and just hope that a Sounders player is on the end of it.
So they're gonna have to mix up play just a little bit.
Here as they send in more numbers into the box, you can see the Sounders pushing with ten minutes remaining yet Brooklyn.
Reins he's on the field for Aliu, the top goal scorer for Houston. Here's Rosneck right corner of the box. Georgie Ndungo just a couple of steps away from and flicks it in towards the backs that just evades roth Rock. There's been a real problem for Houston over the last couple of years. Scored in each of the two games this year. The game winner last year down in Houston in the eighteen ninth minute, his first MLS goal for the Sounders. The bold needs to shift quickly to this
near side. Rusicks asking for it. Lava plays it from center to this near side, the right right front of the down his benches. Rusnick movement to his right is rolled on. Georgia makes her one in behind what comes back to lay that clips towards the back stick. Very ambitious from raft Rock from an incredibly tiny angle. If he decides to do some kind of overhead bicycle kick, goes up and away and high and wide goal kick maybe second minute.
No, no, you could see Dorsey laughing right now.
He gets into the offensive position, but this one gets whipped across and he tries to spectacular, you know, like a confident player does they try anything on the field, and if it goes in or if it's any weird near on frame, everyone says oohing on when it goes into the thirtieth row into the ecs.
Gonna ask questions, Hey, why did I try?
I think it was last year. I think he can not show for Man United score something similar against Everton, some kind of outrageous side holley overhead kick. He did score that one, but the percentage players maybe drop it back to neuho. Yeah, we're just going to drink.
Anything.
But the overhead kick at the back post, Well we've got a play in form five goals in his year, breakout year for young Paul Rothrock kind has much more from.
Him or gets whipped in towards the backs. It could delivery. Dorsey's gonna clip it away to the far side. It goes throwing for the sounders and the hands of new Sounders knocking Neil Nil here, good turn by Rothrock inside the eaching yard box, goes to Rasnack strikes it low, blocked by Sevett Schenko finds the foot of Paul Rothrock through the legs. He goes clattered into it. Foul given by his head uncle.
Looked like a yellow card to me. But he does make a play on the ball at least an attempt. But to try that to be one you know.
Who'll pick up a yellow card there?
Yellow card for Paul Rothrock on Dorsey. Maybe Dorsey was laughing in it for the over bed kick, so it clatters into him.
Watch this replay here it does go high. Rothrock does plan to have a case here it comes over the top of the ball. After Dorsey actually plays that ball along.
The good thing. It felt like he was more of a swipe high versus a stamp stamp. We'll see the referees running away. Nothing in his airpiece yet us of course they Congratulations to Brian Schmetzer. Now it was the last week he signed a multi year deal to stay with the Sounders as the sounder himself. Incredible record in the playoffs zero point seven one two percentage in the
playoffs is Brian Schmetze two mls cups. Of course, the sound as good legs of Jackson rig as it goes across the six yard box, cleared by Yea Mark sounds need to stay alive. Good play by roth Rock, tries to clipping around the corner. No foul given. It was rains On roth Rocks seemed obvious from here, nothing given by the referee. It comes Cuson finds our tour twenty five yards from gold go square shot by Pontik, well
blocked by the sounds. Here comes Georgie. Can he break away from pressure, does a good job, turns away, walks it back to Alex Roldar.
That's well done from Georgia fields the pressure and that's the reason Alia was subbed off and the tief blessing comes on.
We've known lat for years and years.
It is that speedy, quick outside winger, and his job now is just to provide cover for Georgie. It's about the only one on the field I think that could keep up with him. In those first golf steps.
All goes some sense to the far side. The left sounders are coming again. They're trying to find this opening goal nil nil here and equc pitch lumin field. As Rothrock goes down, there's a little bit carefuls on a yellow card or given away to Rains, You're still gonna come. No real options up front, of course, down a man red card on Kaskia after a VR chip by the referee.
Dorsey plays at square to Michel Kel steps forward a little awkward ball into Escobar, but they find the ball and build out in possession as they have done off this year. Raids to svet Chain but knocks the ball along and as the sound is collected that ball with no real pressure on, we're gonna throw it down to Michelle Thanky Danny. Yes.
As we watch the clock now and five minutes of regulation before stoppage time is added, we need to look to the final stubs being made. Brian Schmitzer told us that he was going to make these final substitutions at this time with in mind if the score line state of who could be taking these penalty kicks, because we have to remember that after ninety minutes of play it is penalty kicks. So as a reminder, one final substitution can be made. Two players are left to be substituted.
Thanks Michelle. Yet we'll see what Varni schmetz it does. Looking at the bench, Sure who you bring on to take you PK in place of the players on the field. Six days until the next game, So nope, the need to rest any.
Of the players us is gone. Andrew Thomas take a PK for me yep as he did in the open game, and bring him on. Just have him smash it in the back of the net and hopefully it's the game winner and it does a full lap around Lumenfield this night.
Well, of course he made the saying then scored the goal. I think it was young Kidahara who was about to step up and he said no, thank you, stood up, put the ball on the spot, lashed it in, scored the goal. But samds fans off Sounders FC scores. Fry, like you look at Stephan Fry and I was saying, let's go, let's go, let's go.
Right.
He needs the guys to play with a little bit more urgency at this one. He doesn't want to face pks. Right, He hasn't touched the ball in forty five minutes. He's not really a involved in this game. And then you gotta be asked, Hey, I got to step up and save one or two pks. That's a tough test for a goalkeeper when your team's playing a man up.
Saunders don't want to leave it to a chance. Can they find their winner? In the ninety is a Jackson Ray get twenty five yards from goal, goes to new clips it towards the back stick, will bounce to Georgie brings down his chest, no real pressure, there's Rudiaz. Difficult bull to hit for rudiez It was zinged into him by Georgie. Knox rolled on just telling Georgie calm down. Play the bull beat with some pace that real constraint
you with. It's gonna be a goal kick remains nil nil a couple of minutes left here at lumenfielder, you want.
To lay that one to a bottle platter for your striker. You're number nine.
You just have to drop that one back with you almost are playing soccer golf at that point. You want the ball to stop wherever Raoul's gonna take that shot from and just use the momentum of the ball as light at as it is. But then Raoul can step on to hit that one instead of being on his back foot and trying to get something on frame.
You have two minutes left the ninety We'll see what the referee has to add on. The ball gets clipped up into the air. Sevetchenko wins the ball given away sloppily by Danny Labor the outside of his foot. He's on a yellow card of course, to be careful. Jumps out of it, does Danny Laver. Good play by the young midfield player. Smart play, ball goes down, light just comes off the heel of Georgie. There's Danny Laver saves it well. Great play by Danny Labor right in front of the sounders.
Bench.
Bryce Schmitzer will love that effort by the young man. Bull goes from center to the far side. The left overlapping run by Nu comes back to Rosnak clips a towards the back stick over kicked by Raoul, headed clear by Michale holds his head. Nothing given by the referee. Sounders have it. Houston counts on the top of their eighteen yard box. Sounders looking to try and find a winner in these final minutes of the game. Otherwise it will go to PK's. The ball goes towards the end line.
New clips towards the back stick, finds Georgie again inside the eighteen It's near side the right to Danny Laver to Alex roll darn lulls it out to Georgie. Latif Blessing comes across the defense, go square to Danny. Labor tries to find the ball inside the eighteen yard books to Christian rolled On. Thatcher's brother Alex plays the ball to Georgie towards the end like clips it back, giving
away conse is gonna run away. The good played by almost finds the foot of Druid ds Oh so close, so close, And sometimes it's just the second ball right that it gets flipped over. Your Sound has hit the road to continue their journey in the old twenty twenty four MLS Cup playoffs. They will face Houston dynam over Game two in the Round one Best three series on Sunday,
November third, at three thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on nine to fifty KGr Am and l Ray thirteen sixty am. The Provident Swedish premat show starts at three pm. It's the final seconds of ninety We'll see what the fourth official put up on his board. Twelve minutes. Have you ever seen twelve minutes?
See twelve minutes? I was expecting to see five or six, but twelve minutes. Sounder's gotta go.
Now Here we go. Sounders have twelve minutes to find their winner. Houston will not appreciate that, and Olsen's having en effect to fit down there. Paul comes in, flick towards the back post, bounces through too now left corner box towards the endline. He goes can he clip it? In good defending by Dorsey, It's gonna be a throne for the Sound it's a couple of yards from the corner flag. Sounders have got a chance. He's given away by Roth Robber. Not a great throw by Knew who
just jammed it into him. Goes back out for occurring on the far side for Houston. Gives them a chance to take a breath. So twelve minutes for the Sounders to find a winning goal. Otherwise we go to PK's. It's like certain Danny Massovski is getting ready to come on the field and see what Brian Schmizer does here. Why not try and get the winner? We want to
put it to chance. Been there four Paul and Timbers RSL come to mind Pks whether sound is lost in the playoffs, and I'll give him by Ted Uncle and Sounders attacking half of the field, it's gonna be a free kick for Houston as they go to the deck, slow to get up, just holding his legs. It's that our tour just slowing up. Ponse potentially comes up those stubs coming off the bench for Houston. But as you mentioned, is that Redbaker, Whiting and Danny Masoski getting ready to
come on the field. It's ten minutes to go here. Added time Sounders need to really put the foot in the gas here, try and find this winning goal. Ball gets clipped towards Ponse, headed up in the air by Yemar and then cleared with his left foot. Bounces through Rothrock holding up the ball. He's probably a candidate to come off the field with Red Baker. Whiting's the where that Brian can make some substitutions. They've got lots of
time to find the goal. We're all found out. We'll look at a space who's seen so many times eighty six goals and his sounders quick can he find the eighty seven? Rosneck plays it from left to this near sight center the field is Alex rolled on a square to Jackson Reagan Houston defending deep right. Now ball goes back to Alex Roldan clips it towards the back stick plucks, puts a right fist on it, flips it away, finds kaval Chich the far side the right, look like he
went out of bounds. Nope, nothing given. Sounders come again with Danny Labor some suit for JP. Ball gets shifted to Georgia on this near side the right, challenged by the teeth. Blessing comes back to Rosneck clips towards the back stick, headed up and over the cross off bound to the top of the net. Goal kick for Houston. They will take that all day long. But here in the ninety fourth minute, three minutes of twelve added on as we start to see some of the Sounders subs
for the last two so come on. As Michelle mentioned, Namsofsky comes on the field for Paul Rothrock and then New looks like he's making his way to his near side, so Leeve Baker Waitanson will play on that left hand side. So I didn't expect New to be in the top five, six seven for Pks, but Greeve Baker whitanseds to be an offensive threat and that left hand side in these final minutes, and again.
I thought the Sounders might switch formations here as they've pushed forward still with four in the back, I think they have the opportunity to go as straight three to five too and get two strikers up top in Raoul and Masovski. If you're gonna whip in the ball, you gotta have two strikers in the box.
And it's been a little bit.
We've a couple of runners in the box, but not enough to really challenge the two center backs from Houston as wing player is gonna become vital.
Escobar has a deep on the left hand side. Houston's near side goes back to mckel through the legs of Georgie to Escova is gonna flip it down the line. Good step by Yamo wins the ball. Well, let's go in side hold on has it finds Rosnack this's near side the right whips it in well. Mickel does a good jobs spread out to try and clear that ball, finds Escobar comes off. Georgie chases the ball down, tries to give it to Escabar to make sure that the
second's not burned off the clock. Sober four minutes gone here of twelve, plenty of time for the Sounders in these final minutes of added time. Sounders eight trophy since two thousand and nine, most of any team in MLS. Brian Schwetzer was the best record active coaches in the playoffs. Last year's lost to LAFC was the first time in previous seventeen games where they'd lost at home in a playoff game won they lost to LAFC. The one scoring that winning goal, so Bred Brian's.
Made his moves.
Us up to the place he's made his moves, and like you said, it's up to the players with Samskill try to fade in here up top. But we you need some combination and find Rowl's feet because when he has the ball at his feet in and around the box, it attracts three or four Houston players.
What goes into Daz knocks it down. Clock comes out challenged by Ruediaz Bill get played by Clock because he goes down unnecessarily just spins a couple of times.
He's always got a thing for the theatric Steve Clark does. Sometimes it comes back to bite him. He gets a little bit, a little bit weary sometimes as he starts getting into the game's antics.
The Sounders have to capitalize here and push.
Like you said, seven minutes left in this one, multiple opportunities to just keep possession and move this Houston defense and really get the ball to Georgia's got the ball's got to go to Georgia. You have to take the te blessing out of this play and get the ball to Georgie's feet. He's gotta stay wide though in these situations.
He s play a little narrow right. Now it comes to lay the middle of the puff finds the foot of He's able to turn away for pressure. Well finds the left side. Jeried cuts towards it, third right foot clips it in head it clear? Could it straight by? Alex Roldan comes off a defender. Escobar goes over the end line, corner kick Sounders Rouzneck makes his way across the gonna be another change. Daniel Sterris is gonna come
on the field. Or scored that late, late winner last regular season game against his former club, the LA Galaxy. Thetief Blessing is coming off the field. Just came on the field. I wonder if he's picked up some kind of injury.
I'm not sure if he picked up an injury or Benilson said hey, you did your job and took al I mean when he came on the field, Georgie wasn't able to get at the left back as he came in for the double team. And now they know that the Sounders are playing for set pieces and the ball is gonna get swung in every time they have it.
They'll sit five in the back with.
Stairs a former Sounder like you said, he got the game winner last week, and they'll play for set pieces themselves.
He can be a target, does Andy Rose, and the sound as of something up their sleeve. Here comes Rise out near side outswinger with his right foot, minds ahead of Yamart's pops it up and then cleared by Kavolceic bounces through all the way to Stephan Fry just inside his half of the field. He's gonna roll it out to the far side left where Danny Labor picks it up. Overlapping run by Reed. Labor unnecessarily clips the ball just giving away, bounces through goal kick for Houston. Just what
they want. Four and a half minutes left of the twelve right now for Houston, they're doing their job. They will want this plot to tick by. You see their chance of getting a win here in Seattle, coming from the p K spots as Clark launched the ball along
towards Ponsei brings it off his chest. Well tries to flick it over Yamart, but cleans it up Well does the twenty twenty three Defensive Player of the Year candidate finds in twenty twenty four Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Reagan knows Ragan with the ball, rolls it out to Alex Roldan. Sounds gonna get one more opportunity to test Steve Clark in difficult so far, Houston defending well thirty nine goals giving up this season of Houston third best
in MLS. To read Baker White and back to Danny Laver to Jackson Reagan, all men behind the ball. Now for Husa's that camped out top of their eighteen yard box, Sounds habit fast side, the left goes into Rosnik turns away from pressure. It was back to Danny Laver, slips it towards the back stick and ballsby nasty penalty for the Sounders. It was ahead of my Christian Roldon And here's that man. Roll gonna step up? Or is it gonna be Rosnik having a low word, And I think it's gonna be. We'll see.
Oh it's a close one. It looks like his arms just inside of his body. I don't think that's a handball, looks like it comes off the chest. For me, they'll take a second look at this one. Christian heads the ball comes across. Oh yeah, and that angle looks like he hit his That angle looks like maybe the bicep there just a little bit and.
Is there enough evidence story? But Tony, that's gonna be the question, right. So that's Steve Park just antics, just talking with Russneck having a little word in the ear of Christian rolled on.
Yeah, you see the referees having to look at this one. It's not clear and obvious on that one. But again, like you said, it's gotta be enough for them.
To overturn it. You don't see him complaining too much.
On this one.
And I think ted uncle, thinking, well, what do you want me to do? I see what I see on the field, and I have to call it as I see it, and if they tell me otherwise, I go take a look at it. On var telling Steve Clark to get back in his goal and do his job with the Sounders, that's your from good service.
And he saw it there.
The ball was circulated around a couple times and there were three for three inside the box.
Not the matchups that Houston would want.
But they're so afraid of Georgie on this far side that the left back has the call almost outside that really tight back.
If you have a back forward, it's easy to defend three. But if you're three for three.
You always leave an opportunity if one makes a mistake that an attacker from the Sounders is gonna get in behind.
Well, now see Klock's giving Gamar a big old hug as ten uncle continues to kind of walk around patrol listen in his ear piece. You have to think, is it enough to overturn it? For what was being seen Fox make his way to his goal line.
Well, the players have to know from Houston that he's he's gonna go.
Look, he's gonna go take a look at it. It's not conclusive it'll overturn it, but certainly they'll put it in the hands of the referee. He made the call for the p K. Question is is there enough on this to warrant him turning that decision around?
And watch that one there.
It looks like it's the chest to me, but like you said, the other view looks like it might come off of his his bicep. But he doesn't complain all that much when the when the penalty is called. If if I'm a defender, that one looks like it comes off his arm because he moves his arm back.
I think if it comes off his chest.
There's no reason for his left arm to come out of that play, but it looks like it knocks it out in an unnatural position there.
So the picture we're seeing now is from behind the gold and it looks pretty clear that it hit the arm. But the woe that's facing this way, he's assistant referees. He's holding the ball, see Clark. I don't know what is going on. He loves the attention, I guess as it kind of runs around. Ten uncle still over at the VR screen taking a look.
So you wonder if this is the same view that he's seen, or is he's seeing this one over and over again, like you said, behind the goal.
The question is, Brad, we're at home, we're at looming field. These are enough. I think right there there's slowing the playdown. Ten uncles most likely seeing the same angle we're seeing, and I think from that angle it's HiT's the hand.
We're already in one hundred and twelve, so.
This will be one of the final kicks of the game. The referee will certainly add on some additional time to the twelve.
Well, it's a defeaering a gotcha position?
Is no penalty, Kip, Well, that was a brave decision by the referees. Raoul had the ball in his hands, wouldn't that have been a fairy tale for Ralph to come off the bench and put the ball in the back of there. So past one hundred and twelve, one hundred and second minute mark, twelve minutes about its time have come and gone. The referee will add some additional time here. We'll see how much, at least a couple of minutes.
Well, it's got he's gonna add the time that when he blew the whistle right for the PK. So there's gotta be a significant amount of time added on three or four minutes.
I think Michelle's got some information. We'll throw it down to you, Michelle.
Yes, I'm hearing on the sidelines two minutes from now.
Thanks Michelle. We'll gets clipped long by Fry down the line. It goes picked up the middle part by our Tour, well played by Labor, wins the ball, but given away. It comes our Tour no real options, but finds Kavalchich a little back heel towards Stas, finds ponce it comes Houston. Are they gonna find a final chance here? The death Sounds need to work their way back defensively, need to
do their work. Good play by Gamark plays the ball into Mussovski and to read Baker Whiting looks like a yard off side as Raul referees, flag does go up, try to ark his run stay on side. Good discipline play by the back four of Houston held the line off side and be freakick for Houston.
Roll a little bit frustrated there, and Red didn't pull the trigger faster, but I think he did it within his first two touches.
Not much more Read could do there than take a touch and ping the ball down the line.
It's up to Raul.
The tough part about that being a striker on that far aside, you can't see the rest of the line.
So Chenko strikes the ball all the way over to this near side, bounces through. It's gonna be a throw in four the sounders. So Michelle mentioned two minutes of added time on top of what was given by the refue was twelve minutes about it time, so it was likely inside the final minute here ball in the hands of Alex trolled. Arm's gonna throw it down the line. Flick forward by Yama, cleared by Michel all bounces through over this near side. Roll N's gonna pick it up.
Do the Sounders have one more chance in them? Can they find something here, some bit of lumin magic and it's gonna go to pk is. There's the referees whistle brings the game to an end. And as was mentioned at the beginning of the broadcasts, if it goes to a nil nil one one tight game, it will now go to penalties. So Houston did that job. Went down to ten men, held on. There's another clean sheet for Stephan Fryd. It's the fourteenth clean sheet for the Sounders
regular season in playoffs. As Steve Clark continues to shirt away, he's he's fined up.
He's always fired up, no doubt about it.
And the Sounders had an opportunity right forty minutes, over forty minutes to play with a man up. It could not create one high quality chance during that time and it's disappointing. It's disappointing at the end of the day. But the Sounders have to now refocus, right, refocus, find your five shooters and Stephan Frye, now, like we said, has to come up big. So it's it'll be Tommy getting him ready, getting the ball back into his hands.
They're gonna look at some video of if those five takers for Houston step up, what to expect when they come on. But you saw Steve Clark fired up, and that's gonna get Houston into this game. And now the Sounders have to match that going into pks and that's the toughest part. You have this big occasion, you're at home, and now you've got to refocus, take a breath, and step up and put this Houston team.
It's a crapshoot right now.
Right now, it's Steve Clark's and animal in the back of the net, and.
He loves these moments. He loves this occasion and he'll be John the whole time.
Bringing in Kellen Row here. Kellen, we've seen the goalkeepers get pulled aside by their respective coaches. You know, it's all about mentality for players stepping up. That walk is the longest walk in sports from the center circle to the PK spot. But for the goalkeepers these days, they have so much information to feed off. They're already looking at their notes to see where players play it. But how big is this for Stefan freud tonight.
It's huge and it's all about the preparation.
Obviously you saw Steve Park very animated and Stepan Fry a little bit more content and kind of preserved. But Stephen Fry's, you know, no stranger to a good PK and he's saved many of his career. So I'm excited to see this. It's you know, exciting for the fans to get to see this. But you thought we didn't have play on hundred and twenty. We only played one hundred and five.
Yeah, exactly one hundred and five fifty minutes added with all the stoppage for that var call brave decision by Ted Uncle. And I think the coin toss has been taken. It looks like we may be working our way down towards the north end, so that get if my guess is correct, the way that they're potentially setting up, see if Clark's walking towards the north end, I would imagine
then Houston may have won the toss. Are going to go to the more quiet end of the statum, should we say mecs of course in full voice flex floying. So you guys have been here before. Brad Kellen what's going through the player's mind. Now, how do you focus in on this type of situation.
Well, I'm still not clear on the coins as if one team chooses the side or not. I always thought of just who took the first PK, so it was either predetermined before the game, and that's why I think Schmidt's is up right now wondering why the pks aren't being taken down on this end. And that's a I mean, it's a disadvantage for the Sounders unless I'm switching it up.
Right now, Michelle, We're gonna throw it down to you. You're right there in the mix.
Yes, I am right in the mix.
And there is a heated discussion going on right now about what end the penalty kick will be taken at. There's been some confusion of who decides this, if it's the league that decides it, or if the referee has the final say on what end, and they've been going back and forth. Originally, apparently before the match, it was decided that the penalty kicks would be taking place on the south end of the field, which is of course
right in front of the ECS. Then at the end of regulation they indicated that the pks would be taking place at the north end of the pitch, and of course the Sounders have gone over to the League who've brought in the referees to try and decide this, but it looks like the final say is that it will be down at the north end of the pitch. But again some confusion because free this match, it had been decided that it was gonna be at the south end.
Thanks Michelle. Yeah, it's uh never dull Mobrad in MLS, so it's gonna be ponce the big money signing for Houston in the summer. Five goals on his regular season campaign didn't have much to work with Tonight, He's gonna face Stephan Fry. First p K on the north end, five steps away, takes a breath, steps forward, straight down the middle, just eluded Steph and Fry.
One just snuck by him there.
I think he did his research a little bit, stood his ground and think it just went between his legs on that dive.
It's a replay here.
He hits it with his right footo goes in between his legs and that's just unfortunate for Stephan Fry. But you always want your best PK taker to step up first, and Raoul's clearly.
Been that guy for the past four or five years. But no bigger occasion than right now.
When you're taking one, you scratch all of the previous pks and now you've got to step up onto a goalkeeper that's got all the antics in the world, and you gotta put it in the back of the net.
Rarell take in a moment, tying his shoelaces, just composing himself as Steve Clark stems just inside his six yard box, waving his arms up and down. Now he backs off onto the line. Rarel takes a breath, then step away from the ball. Now he steps away, whistle goes. He used to score their first This is the Sounder's first penalty with Rui Das steps up and little panenka. Would you love it? Just what you want to do to Steve Clark, who's trying to throw all the anticks around.
A little struggle the shoulders by Ruyds. That's one way to shut up the goalkeeper.
There's no more demeaning PK than a little panenka down the middle at Steve Clark with all the antics, just gets up, gives him a little a.
Bull then thumbs up.
He almost took one about ten minutes ago and then got called back. Is in his mind he steps up and to do something like that, the confidence and the experience of a ral ruy Diez who's hit it so many times all it's just it's amazing.
Is thatcond PK for Houston. It's gonna be Griffin Dorsey full back in full ninety former are you man us Youth International three goals on his campaign as he has knelt down, let me sing a little prayer to the ball when I post the gold in the sport and takes five six seven steps back of slow steps as he moves up and rolls the ball in the back of that good confident penalty by Dorsey, Well.
That's the one where he just waits for Stephan Fry to move because if Stephan doesn't move, it looks silly. And Stephan goes to his right and he just takes his time there, keeps his head up the entire time, doesn't even look at the ball and just waits for stuff to move to his right.
Slots it wherever he's not.
I'm sure how I feel to look at the ball. I couldn't do it. I pick my spot. Well, maybe that's why we missed a few of them, but I picked my spot. I just drilled it as hard as I could.
Two one to Houston. Second penalty for the sounds. Then it's Rosneck. Whistle goes slow to step up, looking at the goalkeeper and plays it in the corner. Clark went to the right side. He held his ground for a moment where Rosneck finds the back of the net. It's too too.
You're seeing the cat and mouse games between the players and the goalkeepers here. You can see the stare downs, you can see the who's gonna move first, and it's just some quality penalties.
I think of that one Albert Hicks' spot so well there, and like we said when I was talking to you, Albert is his ability to hit the ball with the inside his foot, with pacent powers unmatched, but he keeps his head down, looks at the ball.
Third penalty for Custon. It's gonna be Kabulcic four paces back, steps up, a little shimmy back and then it goes good. Solid penalty by the substitute. Sent Fry the wrong way, knocked it into the left hand side as he was looking at the goal. Houston take the lead.
Another good pen another good pa. Nothing Jackson, this longest walk, young kid, hometown kid up for m last defenerally year. Let's let's see the quality he hasn't on the round.
It's been a goal scoring year for Jackson relative to last year. Solid campaign defensively, I always gonna step but keep his cool. Stephen Fry has been forced to go back. That's not gonna help Reagan. It's gonna allow Clark to step forward towards the ball. Stephan Fry was just stepped off the end line. I'll sure why uncle lets to get involved. Then it comes. Reagan again sets himself, takes a breath, slow step up and what a penalty. That's a top class penalty the top corner. It goes to
his left. As he's looking at it again, Clark went the right direction. It went high into the top corner. Three to three.
If you put pay in power high in any corner, no keeper is getting up that high. And it really does looks like it almost hits the under side of the for the crossbar there as it sneaks in.
Just good composurey. Obviously we had the ted uncle stopped him for a second. He composed himself, went back to the ball, took his steps and gave a good quality penalty.
And Stephan Fry's got to be bit here. The Sounders need to save here to get this crowd into it.
Most saves in MLS playoffs of an active goalkeeper. Can he find a save?
Now?
It's svet Chenkova, Houston steps up?
What goes.
Friday enough to make the save? Let's bet Chenkku put it wide at the post and the Sounds have the advantage.
It's an unfortunate PK.
It's another center back stepping up and he takes a direct run and it almost looks like he mis hits the ball.
He's going for the corner.
I think at the last second he sees that Stephan Fry guesses the right direction and just yanks it wide there and hits the doesn't even hit the target, He hits the billboards in the background.
Now he's gonna be Christian rolled on. Sounders have experience and quality so far. Stepping up hold Downes doesn't take a moment to take a breath. He's just gonna step back, stands on top of the eighteen, comes strikes into the upper corner.
Plat didn't even move.
Really a penalty dig that one out, but you laced it into the top corner.
The guy who's been around, the workhorse, the kind of the captain on that the center of the park, Christian Roldan, He's the guy that you want to stepping up after a big save like that last one.
What a way to put it away. Look at this one from behind, Just smash it.
If you missed that one, it's going all the way up into the bleachers, but it finds its way into the top corner, and Stephan Fry with an angry look on his face, like, let's end this thing now.
Yep.
Stephen Fry has given the ball to each of the Sounders players to prevent Cluck having anticks. This time, he walks up and throws the ball to Steris. Sounders in full voice. Staus has to score to keep them in it. He steps forward and he roofs it. Good penalty by Sterris scored in the last minute of the last regular season game to put Houston in this position to play the Sounders. And now it's gonna be the second rolled on who's gonna step up. He has the chance to
win this. It's four to four, and the Sounders have one more penalty. If they score this, they win the game. And it's in the hands and the right foot of Alex rolled On takes a breath, steps forward, goes the crowdy erupt and the Sounders win the first game of the first round of the playoffs off the back of a penalty shootout. Yes, they wish it had won in ninety but what a way to win the game for the fans here in the crowd.
Well, take off your headphones, boys, because it is loud and here right now you haven't heard it this loud in a long time. But that's the drama of penalty kicks, right And you know, the sound put in a full effort tonight that they create the chances that they wanted to know. But at the end of the day, it comes down to pks and to make five for five
is something else. And to send home Houston Dynamo like this, they'll have a little chip on their shoulder going back to Houston next week thinking they got a chance.
Well, credit to the Sounders.
They needed that victory tonight and to send these fans home happy and loud, big win for the Sounders.
Kellen, you know you've been in big games, you've been in playoff games. How do you think the sound is dealt with the first ninety and then of course a little bit of a disappointment that they couldn't find that goal upper man after the red card from Karskia, But the mentality of the players to take a breath and then walk up and hit five penalties out five.
Obviously it wasn't what they want in the first ninety, wouldn't want to be able to put them away.
But you know, credit to Houston.
They sat back and they made sure there was no gaps in there, and they had to cross the ball into some big players. But you go in this penalty shootout and you have Stephan Frye, would I count as a save even though he missed, he got to save out of that and you go five for five, but not just five for five makes it was in style.
I mean, you had some good penalties.
In there, and there's some confidence from guys who obviously have experience, but a new guy like Jackson Reagan. For me, that was the best penalty we had because of the composure, because of the stature of the game. It's a quality game. I think going into Houston. They're gonna have a good confidence about him.
Eighteen one and two in the last twenty one games for the Sounders in the playoffs, the most wins and MLS since two thousand and nine, twenty wins, twenty one wins, three losses, four toys all time in the MLS playoffs. And it was last year when they lost to LAFC one nil. That was their first loss in seventeen home games. So they are a powerful force at LUMEN. They have the chance bred to go to Houston next week and win it. They couldn't do it last year against Dallas.
They won it here to nil. They went to Dallas, they came out the gates slow, if you remember that first half giveaway of a couple of sloppy goals. Couldn't get back in it, but of course won the game. But can they get the job done in two.
Yeah, they can.
They can't get the job done in Houston. It'll be a difficult task. And you know, Houston was able to take off a couple of players to rest them, like a Hector Herrera and and Bossi to bring them.
Off the field.
So I think that Houston will be confident going back home that they can get the job done, and that'll be Ben Olson's messaging. But now it's up to the Sounders to go play spoilers down in Houston. And like you said, they got six days to recover. It'll be good temperature down there. There's really no excuse for this Sounders team because even out eleven men, we've seen this Sounders team really provide something special always in the playoffs, and going down to Houston.
I don't think it'll be any different.
Hope and Vogas suspended today Callum because of his red caught against Poldend. I know he was frustrated. He was a big week for him, who obviously made his debut for the Mexican national team's first cap against the US of Old teams. He's now back in the line up next week.
Just adds a little bit more dynamic.
Now we're gonna throw it down to Michelle.
Thank you, Danny.
I'm here with head coach Brian Schenzer. Brian, first of all, congratulations on win. Take me through your emotions during those pks.
Well, it's always, you know, it's always a bit hard.
Bentley's they're very nerve wracking and I'm sure it was for the fans and the coaches and the players, but our guys came.
Through and Steph, you know, picked the right side. Maybe push that guy a little wide. So credit to stuff.
What will it do for your team having this momentum and this win as you guys now travel to Houston, O.
Yeah, in the way the playoffs are set up now, winning the first game is critical because now we have two shots to win it.
We can win it in Houston or come back here.
What can you say about Alex rolled On? I mean, he can sub in a goalkeeper for you. He could score pks. I mean, is there anything the guy can't do?
I knew I knew Alex was gonna make it. We've been training.
Bentley kicks a lot, and the guys that we put up there were ready.
Overall.
Your thoughts on the team's performance aside from the pks.
Well, yeah, I mean we need to figure out a way how to be a little bit more goal dangerous.
You know, after we win a man up, I think we could have done a little bit.
Better, but you know, we got to win.
You got the win, coach, Thanks so much for the time. Congratulations and best of luck next week in Houston.
Thanks Michelle, Thanks to you guys. Thanks Michelle. So Kelln, let me get your thoughts about Brian obviously somewhat thispoint with the performance, couldn't get it done in ninety. But it's feel about mentality with his group to get that PK win.
And he said it.
You know, in this playoff format, winning the first game is crucial, like he said, you have two games now to win this series. You have to go to Houston, but you also get a chance to come back home where obviously the Sounders are very good at Luminfield.
So Brad, let me ask you this, so anything what you saw in Houston today, what the Sounders did and bred I'll get you one second. We gotta throw it down to Stephen Fry and Michelle.
Leka, thank you, Danny.
Yes here, I'm here with Stephen Fry. Steph congratulations on the win. Tell me about your mindset going into a PK situation like this in the playoffs.
Yeah, I mean, you scouts, they're missing their top two PK takers that are that have got subbed out. But you scout, we scout scouted and only two of them went in the direction that we scouted.
Is you know when you sometimes look at it and guys go left.
Right and down the middle, it's it's it's pick your poison. But what I saw today was, I mean, we've been practicing pks. You know, We've had Leagu's Cup, we've had Open Cup, and so throughout the year we were practicing pks and and now the playoffs we also did and our pks we were hit phenomenally well.
And it's it's good.
It gives you a confidence when you see our guys step up and.
Deliver like that.
What will it do for your team being up with the win as you guys head to Houston? Obviously with this best of three game series.
Honestly, I think this game is the best thing that could have happened to us early on because I think we're dominant and then once we get a little bit desperate, maybe we start we stop using our head, and we revert to bad habits of crossing the ball in fifty million times to nobody. So it's a good thing, I think for us to come out of this game as a result, but a good stark reminder of I think what makes his tick and maybe sometimes what doesn't make
us tick. So hopefully we can learn from it and be better next time.
You continue to lead the league in postseason.
Saves asked earlier this week to Brian Schmitzer about this team and the defense. Obviously said, you know, you're phenomenal in goal, and you're the first one to not want to speak about yourself and your performance usually, But he said, it's a whole team effort, and he's always really impressive how everyone drops back and really is bought in and
really competes on both sides of the ball. What can you say about that and how what you see from your teammates, especially given how they play tonight.
Yeah, it's when a.
Whole team buys into a stat that tends to go to a goalkeeper, you know, shutouts.
Then you know, I for me, like there's keepers in the league and.
In the world that are the best.
There are five million times.
Better than what I am, But by yourself, it's just not gonna happen until give eleven guys buying into this and taking pride in it and approaching it in that fashion, and then that's when you see the results. And for me, you know, obviously I'm getting older, but I think I have experience and so I try to pass that on. I try to maybe extinguish fires before they happen, make sure that we're things before they you know, become too too.
Much of a situation for us.
And then when I have guys in front.
Of me, we're capable of doing that.
And then they're starting to see it themselves, you know.
I mean, if you ask me, we have two center backs of the year fenders of the year on our squad, you know. So I'm spoiled with the guys in front of me and the hopefully we can make a.
Count and uh and win a trophy together.
As we look ahead to next week in Houston, what does this team need to do to close out this series and move ahead in the playoffs.
Yeah, just again, like I said, maybe you utize our head a little bit more. We know that their possession based team. You know, for for long spells they did have possession, But is it possession that hurts us? There is the possession that where it's just meaningless possession in their deep end, and maybe that's when you can serve energy. You let them have it and and make sure that when you do have the ball or when you when you do get the ball back and they're spacing behind.
You can be explosive about it and then again just maybe pick out some crosses a little bit better. But you know, it's I think when you do well and you have when you have a good result, is when you can look into the little small things and see right here and there we could have gotten better and that's gonna help us moving forward.
And tonight we got the win against Houston. Steph, congratulations, thank you so much for the time, and best of luck next week.
Thank you for sure Danny back to you.
Thanks. Michelle Yep shows the humble nature of Fry why such a great captain. Ninety five saves in his career in the playoffs, number one in MLS his thirty third game in the playoffs. Kell, I know you'll break things down after the break, So Brad, I'm going to jump to you if your final thought to the game before we throw it to break.
Yeah, I think to Steph's point, it's about experience at this point, and I think the Sounders have shown that since two thousand and nine, the ability to advance in difficult situations, whether it's this tournament, Open Cup, whatever it may be. And so for the Sounders it's back to the drawing board. And like Schmid said, is how can they get more goal dangerous?
Right?
And we watched the game, we called the game, and we're saying the same thing. So it's not lost on us, it's not lost on the players. And that that is, you know, a big question for the coaching staff, how can they get these guys to be And we saw with Georgie in the first five six minutes that he was on the field, it was step over go gold, dangerous, gold, dangerous, and then it kind of faded a little bit. So it's got to be consistent. But they got to find ways to break this Houston team team down.
Well. Thanks for everyone involved in today's broadcast. Terry Ryan here in the booth on the board, Mitchell blyback at the studio, Keeley Dunning, Ryan Kahnt, Kevin ka is always your great information helps our production. So much to Michelle Ludky on the sidelines as always, great work for Michelle. Great interviews on the field with Brian and Stephen. Of course the Sounders legend Steve zac Quornio fell ill during
the first half. We wish him well and then a great substitution is a better self coming off the bench and former captain Brad Evans. We'll see back here for the second game of this first round of the playoffs when the Sounders will travel to Houston next weekend. We'll all take a breath after finish nil nil in ninety minutes. It went to PK's and the Sounders won the PK shooter at five to four. Five wonderful penn is by the Sounders put them through, won the game and they
go now to Houston. The chance to put the first round under their belt and then go into the next round takes show break. Jackson, Feltz, Brad Evans might join them, but Keleener certainly will to break it all down to meet UC pitch at Lumenfield nil nil after ninety five goals to four a Sounders win in the penalty shootout. We'll see you next week.

Welcome to the Sounders FC Postmat Show. Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now well.
For the first time since the Seattle Sounders joined Major League Soccer, your Sounders have won a penalty kick shootout at Loominfield. The last time they won a PK shootout in this stadium was when I believe Danny Jackson, who just called ball thing, was on the field playing.
For the team.
But finally, after so many years, we switched to the north end of the stadium to.
Take pks and what a series.
Rawle hits, Ruth Snack hits, Reagan hits, Christian roll Don with one of the best penalty kicks you'll ever see hits, and then his brother Alex Roldan top right corner, hits five for five. Sounders win the shootout five to four and they take a one to lead in this best of three first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Welcome in to the postgame show.
Jackson Feltz, Kellen Row here to celebrate and break it all down. Callen zero zero through one hundred and five.
That should have been one hundred and ten minutes, and we went to pks and then finally this team breaks through and wins the shootout to take the one oh lead.
Your instant reaction, I mean euphouri when you see that. We're seeing the roll Don Brothers take over Seattle Sounders right now. Everything you think of in the sense of where are they gonna play? Can Alex go le can? Michelle said earlier to coach. Can he play in goal? Can he play center?
Bit?
Can he play right back? Can he play left back? Alex? I'm sorry, Buddy, I left, so you have to you have to play a position now, and Christian doing the same.
Right.
These guys are the ones that everyone's looking for. They're looking to these guys to be the leaders. And you see it as they step up and hit these incredible penalties and everyone, you know, no one was worried here. Coach wasn't worried, players weren't worried, Stephan Fry wasn't worried, and there was You don't have any worry in your hands.
But when when the Rolldan.
Brothers are on your side, and I think that's incredible. Now you look at the game, I think the ninety minutes or I guess one hundred and five minutes that we played were not great. Let's not be it wasn't great. We didn't have many attacks. When we did, it was pretty faltered pretty quickly. Positive is neither did Houston. Stephan Pride didn't really have to make any say it was an ugly game.
It was an ugly game.
It was exactly how Houston wanted it to be played, especially away in Luminfield where they had to come in. But going into that next game, we'll talk about this a little bit more, but we need to find ways to find you know, be go dangerous. Yeah, and coach said it as well as well as Stephan Fry and we'll get to that. But it's quick reaction is great for these guys. We won the first game, which is hugely important. Like Coach said, in a three game series,
you win one, you have two more. You have two more to find a way through the series, and you.
Know you're coming back home if you happen to not get it.
Done exactly, which is a place that the Sales Sounders do very well at in the playoff season. So it's a good it's a good result in the sense that we won. There's a lot of things that are gonna want to change coming into Sunday. I want to go
through the penalty kick shootout at length. Let's do that next segment, but let's let's continue to talk about the game itself and for everybody getting in your cars and leaving with smiles on your faces out of lumin Field, as there are obviously lots of smiles, as the Sounders have won in penalty kicks for the first time again here at Luminfield in the MLS era, and they are going to Houston for a game two on Sunday.
We'll obviously spend a lot of time talking about that. But yeah, let's let's continue talking about this game as a whole.
It was ugly at times, it was boring, but I think the interesting thing what happened was there was the second half.
I mean, look, you can see the notes.
I had like one note for the first forty five minutes and then like a twelve for the second half. And the interesting thing about this match it completely shifts in the sixty second minute, fifty second minute, excuse me,
when George Morris comes out due to hamstring tightness. Pedro dal Levega also comes out, Rollery Diaz and Georgie manooool, come on, you see Georgie give I think we can spend a minute to talk about those substitutions and how Rolls addition changed things, and how Georgie's substitution added kind of exactly what we talked about at halftime, that sparked that creativity, that element on the right wing that it seemed like they needed.
Look Georgie's first touch, I believe was a scissor and then down the line and created something right away, and I think that's what coach had wanted to do it. Maybe it may have been a little too long, because coming into a game and running that much is actually very hard to do. It's actually easier to start and play a full game than it is played hard for thirty minutes. But for me, it was the change of
the crowd when Raoul Ruy Diaz got subbed on. I had not seen this crowd that loued this whole game, and all of a sudden, the shift changed. But everyone saw it, not even the players, but the crowd, the team, and it just kind of continued, and you could see it in the penalties as well. The whole crowd as they knew was coming around. We took our headphones off and it was incredibly loud. And I think that is
why we have a home field advantage. That is why the Seattle Sounders don't lose many games in the playoffs at Lumen Field, is because the crowd finds a way to rally around. You really felt that, and I think rolls just him being on the field. I mean when he stepped up to take the first penalty kick, you know, the chants for Raoul were just thunderous here in Leuminfield.
So that change happened.
And then we had the first var check in the sixty second minute where they were checking a red card. There was an interesting situation where JP came and there was a giveaway Houston's running down the field that JP tackles a guy from behind and it's an obvious yellow card.
He gets the yellow.
But it's what happened afterwards where it seemed like Coco Karskia, the midfielder for Houston, starts getting into it with Albert Rusnak and there's a large group that kind of coalesces around him, and Karskia starts throwing his hands, looks like he might hit Albert in the face. He gives him a kick. Lots of physical contact. That's in the sixty second minute.
Finally, a few minutes later, after all of the dust settles, we go to var for a red card on Kariskia.
Turns out, yes, it is a red card.
It was the conduct from Karskia warranted a red whether it was the hit to the face, whether it was the kick. Karskia gets the red card. That also means he is going to be out for Sunday's game too. We'll talk about that later on.
But for this game, Callen Houston going down in the sixty six minutes to ten men certainly changed a dynamic for the next, you know, fifty minutes.
Of this game.
So it's funny you say that because I didn't see it change the dynamic of this game. I think it's going to change the dynamic.
Of the next game.
And like you said, Coco is not going to be able to play in the next one.
We talk about that later.
But but this this game, I mean, I saw Houston completely parked the bus, correct, but they already kind of work.
Kind of they just decided to put.
It put everyone back there, they're not going to have any more possession. When we first started with the ball, they had possession, and every once in a while you saw it as well, it's hard to play when you know we have so many players going forward and they just they parked the bus.
But what what changed? Did we have more chances on goal? You think?
See? And and that's what I want to bring did we create did we have you know, yes, we had more possession, of course we did use we had the ball the whole time. But that's that's what I want to bring up, is the fact that we did have the ball the whole time and whether it was just passing it around and we talked about this at half time.
It was just passing it around the final third, trying to find slots, trying to find balls over the top, and it just didn't feel like the quality for that remaining you know, thirty plus at a time that was extra.
It didn't feel like the quality was there to get that winner.
And that's kind of the part that Sounder fans are gonna go home and saying, yeah, it's great we won, But at the same time, God, you play a man up for forty minutes you know that it is frustrating that we couldn't find the winner up a man with with all of that time.
Well you talk about the.
Possession, but we're really shrinking the field there, and Houston did a very good job with this. You're down, you're down a guy. It's ten v eleven here, but really it's ten b ten. You know, seven fries all the way in the back here. He's had half field and then you have everyone else.
So it's ten v ten half in a half field, not full field, although.
They're not they're not they're not stepping up and so you're playing with very little space. They did a very good job of having two solid lines of four and then the two kind of roaming around being you know, a forward or a center mid uh In Ponzi.
It was just so we u saw. It was a really good organized It was.
A very organized and disciplined Houston who knew what they wanted. They slowed the game down. Every time the ball went out, they walked to it and they made they made the sounders actually give them the ball or they weren't going to play. They took their time on every set piece with they got fouled, they took their time getting back up.
They knew they wanted to go to Penns. They're down a man.
They know how to defend. They do it very well, and they did it here tonight. Now they did it here because the Sounders didn't really give them much to defend. In my opinion, we didn't and step and Fries said this after the game. He said, you know, we just were throwing in crosses to no one and that's what it was. We talked about it off air as we were watching, and it's where where are we? What are we playing into here?
Can we find? Can we put it?
Danny Massovski in there to just stand there? Just have some bodies in there. Ral Ridaz is not one too. He's an incredible finisher if it falls to his feet, I'm very happy with that. But he's not one to go up with two center backs and win the header and put the ball in the back of the that it's not his style.
Can he do it?
Yes?
But is he gonna do it most of the time?
No?
And so I want to see them be able to break a team down and it's not easy to do, but you have to have runs off the ball, and I think and I'm gonna kind of foreshadow here. Yeah, the addition of Ovid Vargas coming back and making those runs from a deeper position obviously when we're playing eleven v eleven and then having the full field to do
this create space for rawl of uds underneath. He creates space for Manungo to actually go one on one and have other players in the box because Ovid's made that run to have Paul Rothrock be able to create because he's he's now going on one v three, He's going on one v one against his attacker.
That was That was perfect.
I mean, that's the element of that I wanted to discuss about how this game changed and how frankly, you know, if the same situation happens with Obed.
Vargas, because how about that they lose Kiaroskia for game two, we get Obed Vargas back for game two. Yeah, it's a good situation for the Sounders who are up one game. So right now, what we just kind of gave the outline of what happened before penalty kicks weren't able to get it.
There were twelve minutes that was added.
There was a penalty shout that was initially called the PK in the ninety ninth minute. You know, on the first replay look that we all saw on Apple it looked like a penalty because of this certain angle that looked like it came off of a defender's forearm. But when we saw the angle from the behind, the goal very clearly comes off the shoulder.
No PK.
And in the one hundred and fifth minute, Ted Uncle said, go to pks. So let's continue this conversation and give a few mentions here before we move forward. And first up, it's that.

Hey Penalty Kick Shootout Edition of taking care of business.
The Sounders couldn't take care of.
Business in one hundred and five minutes, but for the first time in the MLS era here at Lumenfield, they took care of business in a penalty kick shootout, winning the shootout five to four hits from Ruy Diez, Rusnak, Reagan, Christian and Alex rolled On finishing it off for the shootout win for the Sounders. And I want to kind of go through this and talk about it. You have Ral stepping up first, the Sounders hit second. It should be mentioned, so they had to follow up after Houston.
So Roll hits.
It's a pananka of course, like he always does. I mean, we could talk about, hey, let's let's let's start there. I got something please go ahead.
Look, ten minutes before regulation we had to handball. Right is ten twenty.
I lost track of time on this thing, but he had a chance to He's waiting for four five minutes right holding the ball. Wait, okay, I'm gonna he's playing on my game himself, but also with Steve Clark of like, Okay, where am I gonna put this? I'm gonna put the lower lower corner, upper corner, am I gonna put this right in the middle like he does. Yeah, And so you know, ten twenty minutes before this actual penalty happens, he's had.
To go through his mind a million times.
And of course Raul ruy Diaz does what he does best and steps up and does something that I don't have the UH co host so to do.
It's incredible. This the confidence and experience.
I you would say, but the confidence and the kahones of this guy is just insane.
And look it's it's Rauls being unbelievable Pananka again.
So Raoul hits UH and then the next guy, Griffin Dorsey hits for Houston.
And then Albert Rusnak steps up. He goes bottom left corner.
You know, every single penalty Albert Rusnak's get this year has by the way, Mitchell, we can kill the music. Rusnak goes bottom left corner, as he has done. Every single penalty kick this year from Albert Rusnak has been bottom left corner, and he does it again.
We talked about it on air.
Look these guys are there, Brat and I were talking about it, like I couldn't just look at the goalkeeper and hit my shot.
I have to look at the ball because I don't know it, just I have to.
I cannot go.
I cannot play soccer blind. I'm not one of those guys. But these guys are doing. And Albert Rusnak does the same thing. He's waiting for Steve Clark to move. He's just waiting and waiting and waiting, and finally he says, all right, final kick my corner.
And puts it right.
It did feel like the hesitation God was a hesitation and if he moves first, he goes the other side. But guess what, I don't know if Steve Clark didn't do his business because he's done every single time he goes at that corner.
It works. I don't know how he does it, but it works. I hit it there, I miss? If you're a keeper? Did I? Actually? I did?
Miss?
So yeah, that's okay. Nobody remembers. Nobody wants to remember that. Well, okay, next been Snake's ben, all right, So Roosnak hits too too.
Then we have Sebastian Kualshik step up, but midfielder off the bench for Houston. He hits, and then upsteps Jackson Reagan. Jackson Reagan, what right right now. I think we're gonna do this. I think the club's official was Yamar for for your man of the match. Tonight's Toyota man of the match, at least for us, is Jackson Reagan. Your local Toylet dealers are proud to present tonight's man of
the match. So first up, clean sheet didn't give up a single goal in you know, one hundred and five or so minutes, gave.
Up a shot.
I'm not sure he gave up a shot there the amount of times he's what he won the ball, he stepped into good spots, he made some good passes, and look the if the team's gonna give it to Yamar, we're gonna give the other center back because the shutout was so good out So we're not sure seven Fry actually made a stats.
Stats they had seven shots, none on target, none on target.
No.
No, that's that's good defensive play right there, and it's we could give it to the whole back line. We can give it to step and Fry, but I think Jackson Reagan for the reason that you're gonna point out right now, So Jackson Reagan a center back and listen, like everybody kind of refers back to Roman Tour is a center back inexplicably stepping up and winning MLS Cup in twenty sixteen. For the sounder is a center back who wins it. Jackson Reagan steps up.
Center backs are players too, Okay they are, but you back them up, you just be a penalty to shootout taker.
Jackson Reagan steps up third, He goes top left, scores a great penalty bass Steve Clark again, he steps up with the confidence, goes third, Kellen third, ahead of Christian, ahead of Alex. I had everybody else except for Rowland Alberts. I mean, the confidence and the take of Jackson Reagan was so special. He earns a matter of the match for not only the defensive effort, but for great take and the confidence to step up third. We talked about it on air as well when it happened. But ted, Uncle,
the refereetail, let's talk about this. He stepped over to Jackson, as you know, as he was about to take it and said, hey, hang on a second, Uncle. Well, here's the thing is, Stephen Fry is supposed to be behind the line.
He's not to be a player on the field.
And that's the whole thing is that supposed to be another player in the half which is why you see all the guys on the halfway line. You see the keeper behind the field, Stephen Fry was in the line of sight, and of course Steve Clark doing what he does is like I can see him, and so he had to stop. So before Jackson already did his routine, put the ball down, you know, gave his little prayers whatever he needs to do, and step back ready to
take the penalty. Ted uncle says, stop, gotta do it again, and so he comes back and I credit I credit Jackson for this. This is this shows his maturity and his experience and is a little bit of a confidence as well. Instead of just standing there and taking the same thing he just did, he goes back up to the ball, moves it to where he wants it, takes his breath again, takes his prayers, steps back, and goes through.
His whole routine again.
And that is experienced because not a lot of times does that happen, because your head is now thinking, oh gosh, do I do I switch, do I go to the other side, Do I pass it in?
Do I shoot it in? Do I chip it in?
Do I pananka Am I am I the rawl Rui Diaz of center backs. But no, he he drills this thing, drills this thing right, take just a little kiss on the crossbar to go right back down.
And it was it was gorgeous.
I mean because I picked up the thing, it looked like Ted Uncle. In the moment, I was saying, Jesus, Ted Uncle, you just you just ruined the kid. I mean like he was gonna hit it and you just mentally, why did you have to step in? But the thing about Fry that makes absolute sense. But what a credit to Jackson Reagan for stepping up and hitting it. Uh, and with that take makes it a three to three shootout.
At that point. Uh, at that point we have uh, who is it?
It's it's Sviatchenko, right, Eric Sviatchenko, a defender for Houston, steps up wide left and suddenly the Sounders have a chance to take the lead here in the fourth round of penalty kicks. And that is where we get to with tonight's Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. Christian rolled On stepped up and what a hit from Christian rolled On.
Now it's gonna be Christian rolled On. Sound As have experience and quality so far stepping up hold don doesn't take a moment to take a breath. He's just gonna step back stands on top of the eighteen. Here he comes strikes to the upper corner. Plad didn't even moved.
Really a penalty dig that one out. But you go into the top corner.
The guy who's been around, the workhorse, the kind of the captain on that the center of the par Christian Roldan, He's the guy that you want to stepping up after a big save like that last one.
I mean that take.
The play of the match was presented by Emerald Quing Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
That penalty from Christian rolled on.
No goalkeeper in the universe or any universe in the multiverse saves that calend row.
I mean, Brad Hevin said it best. If he misses that it's going in the top of the stands. He drilled that thing.
I mean, I'm surprised he didn't go through the net.
I haven't seen Christian hit a ball that hard in a very long time, if ever. And he's not one to, you know, go out and just shoot. He's more of a placement kind of guy and oh my, did he place that thing in the corner and the fact that it didn't go through is pretty incredible.
He smashed that thing.
Unbelievable take from Christian rolled on after he hits we have Daniel Starez. He stepped up and hit it for Houston. That made it four to four, one kick left in the five rounds. Alex Roldan stepped up and just like Christian hit it top right. Alex Schroldan goes same place, not as fire as fire on it, but still a great take. And Alex Schroldan hits it and sends the Thousans Sounders through with a five to four penalty kick shootout, and the crowd went mad, The team went mad, lots
of celebrations as we're now up one game. Nothing in the roll.
Dwends We trust, I mean, we put him in big moments and they're gonna make it happen. And obviously you have the experience of Stefan fright now. I understand that the guy missed right, the center back missed Sachenko. Yah, yeah, I get it, But for me, that's a save for goalkeeper in any kind of penalty shootout. They you know, did their recent church. He went the right way. It's just one of those that he just went too far because guess what Step and five was gonna save it if he didn't.
He was there. I'm saying he was there. It was I mean, ye, no, looked it looked like it too. Fri had guessed the right direction.
And at the end of the day, I mean, the Sounders go through. And we said it before and I'll say it again.
First time in the MLS era, they've won a penalty kick shootout here at Loomenfield. Obviously it's happened down at Starfire, but Danny Jackson was playing for the Sounders the last time a Sounders team won a PK shootout in this building, going all the way back to the USL days, it's been that long. And I mean, listen, I said it right when Alex rolled On stepped to the spot. First time for everything, first time for everything, and it happened
here in the MLS era. And now the Sounders have a really really nice one nothing lead in this best of three series, and the Sounders have won today and you get to win tomorrow down on the McDonald's happen to Redeem your Free Mick chicken tomorrow with any purchase of two dollars or more at your locally owned and operated McDonald's restaurant. Welcome back to Luominfield, where the Seagulls are enjoying the scraps of those who are enjoying this game. A Sounders penalty kick shootout win here has sent them to game two, up one to zero here in this best of three opening round against the Houston Dynamo.
Sounders of the four seed. Houston's the five seed winner to.
In all likelihood face LAFC in the Western Conference Semifinal, which will be a one game likely down in Los Angeles. Vancouver, of course, still has a shot in that series. But LAFC is up one nothing. They're just like the Sounders are up one nothing on the Dynamo and it's time to talk about Game two ahead all right, So here's the deal, by the way, if a game three is needed, if Houston wins Game two, it's back here on Sunday,
November tenth, at Womenfield. But for Game two, this coming Sunday, November third, kickoff three point thirty Pacific time at Shell Energy Stadium down in Houston, Texas.
Very excited that we'll be there.
Down in Houston the entire broadcast for Sounders Dynamo Game two. Now, folks, you can listen to that match right here Sports Radio nine two dr AM Provident Swedish premat show starting at three o'clock as always l Ray thirteen sixty.
For Spanish language.
And of course you can watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. Now callen the big dynamics of this game. We kind of hinted towards it a couple segments ago. Obed Vargas was serving his red game red card suspension that was of course, for the red card on decision day against Portland. He will be back and available for the Sounders. Meanwhile, the Houston Dynamo are miss being probably their best player in Coco Karaski,
a tremendous midfielder Panamanian international. He got a red card today for the slap of Albert Rusnak and the kick of Albert Rusnak.
He was sent off. He will miss game two.
So Sounders get a midfielder back, Houston loses their best player a midfielder. I mean, listen, if you're a Sounder fan, drive around your smiles right now thinking about that. Houston still a dangerous team, still a good team, but it's a very interesting dynamic for game two.
It is.
What we didn't mention is that Jordan Morris had to come out in the game as well, and it looked like a muscle injury. Hamstring tightness, hamstring tightness, And so for us, that's that's uh, you know. Obviously l Ruediez came on and was a big spark for us, but Jordan's been the guy.
He's been the goal scorer. He's the league goal scorer of this whole season.
He's the one that stretches the back line because Roald has its quickness, it has his brains, but he's not one to go and stretch anymore. He's he's up there in his ages and he's not He's looking for the ball at his feet rather than behind.
So how are they going to adapt to that as well? Obviously they'll be talked about it.
Ovid Vargas is going to be that guy who kind of makes the the gaps open up because of his ability to make good runs off the ball. Can he find a way to do kind of both, because Roald Diaz is going to drop in. Can I can we get Albert Rusnak making runs in behind? Can we get at Pedro de la Vega. I just don't want it to get too tight in that midfield with everyone dropping to get the ball at their feet and knowing actually no one actually going in behind.
So it seems like a lot of that dynamic will be a question of who is going to be starting at striker for the Sounders.
Well, it's it's it's a question of how do they want to play. Do they want to play together or do they want to play individually. If they want to play individually, they're gonna have a lot of guys in the same area. But if you can be smart enough, and I think Pedro del Vega is very smart, Albert Ruback very smart. Rob re Diez is very smart. If one comes in, the other has to go right. If one leaves, the other fills that gap. We Ted Lasso baby, total football, come on, it's look, but it is the
way that this game works. There is a fluidity, and we have players in this team, in the Seattle Sounders, that have that fluidity about them. Alba Russa can play multiple positions. Rob Rey Diaz is smart enough to come in as a ten, also play up top if he needs to.
He can push out wide.
Petro de Lvega can play just about anywhere through that forward or midfield position. Can they interchange and create space because Houston Dynamo has already that has already done it. They'd sit back, they have those two blocks of four. Can you find a way to get them moving well?
That I mean, just like tonight was a chess match.
There'll be a chess match coming up on Sunday in Houston, three o'clock pregame, three thirty kickoff. We'll all be down there in Houston, Texas Shall Energy Stadium. Hope to see a bunch of Sounder fans down there as well in Houston this coming Sunday. You also listen right here Sports Radio at nine to.
