Welcome to the Sounders FC post match show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC post match show starts now. It's the final here from Smoky Limonfield. Your Sounders have fallen to Atlanta United by a score of two nothing. Welcome into the post match show. Jackson Felt and Brad Heavns here for the next
twenty minutes or so to break this game down. And Brad, this team was off for three weeks and I've kind of left after these three weeks feeling the exact same way three weeks ago. Really disappointed after what was a lost by two goals. You know, just very clear the team didn't have it tonight and they lost by a score or two nothing, a goal in each half for Atlanta. Let's just open the postgame with with your thoughts on what you saw from the ninety minutes. Yeah. I think Atlanta from the start
the far superior team. They looked like they had a game plan. And what I like about Atlanta is when Almada gets the ball, he's so unpredictable that the Sounders had no idea what to do, especially in the midfield, and I think that's what we're missing right now when I watch it. It felt like the Sounders did pattern play and set plays for the last three weeks with no creativity, no inside out runnings outside end. There was no variety
in our game tonight. No nobody out there's trying to say, hey, I'm gonna try something different, to try to solve this problem and do something different. It was almost like beating a dead horse with the same thing over and over and over again for sixty minutes until we made some subs. Obviously
that changes up some things. But you see it right now. It's Andy Rose and it's Stephen Fries still on the field talking about what happened tonight, what needs to change, And so we see it now that there's people asking questions on the field and it probably does have to come from step at some point, because you know he sees it all from behind, like what do I need to do to get this team on the right track as a captain of this team. So overall, just a disappointing night look lack or smoke.
Both teams were dealing with it. It's not an excuse tonight. So one of those games where the Sounders what down seventy seventy percent to Atlanta on possession tonight. You don't see that very often. So lackluster tonight, a
lack of solutions, just not able to solve the riddle tonight. I want to go back to the comment you make, because I think you nail hit the nail on the head and that's that you just kept doing the same thing over and over and pounding her head against the brick law and see I go, I go to the definition of insanity right, doing the same thing over
and over. And I think what frustrates me too is for that first sixteen minutes of doing the same thing over and over, we this is that that was the same thing that we saw a month ago in the games against Dallas, and the league's got it. It's funny. I guess it kind of thought that in that three weeks, maybe there's some creativity and maybe there's some changes and maybe there's something that can can get in into this team and make
them unpredictable and a little bit different. Here for the final ten games of the year, and it does still look the same, and it is frustrating Brad in the sense that it just it's not working right now. I don't know what the answer is. I don't know if it's about individual players stepping up or coaching stepping up and changing some things. I'm not sure there's a big pie. You can split up the slices anyway you want, but but something needs to change our feet. Yeah, I think it's just personnel.
I think if you if you have guys that have played together for a really long time, it's it's hard to expect something more than what they already do. And if they were producing, you know, three or four years ago, then why would a player say, oh, I'm going to change my game completely. It's it's just a personnel issue right now. And so the guys that are playing on the field are not jelling and not playing together right
now. They don't seem to be playing like a team a team, and so for me, it's it's about maybe making one or two or even three changes. But the problem is when you look down our bench, I don't see many game changers on our roster that are going to propel us into the last nine games. So I think we are relying on these guys and saying,
okay, we're gonna do it again. We're gonna roll it out next week four two three one, and we're crossing our fingers that you know, he's gonna get into the right spot, whether it's Leo, whether it's the ball to Jordan, whether it's defensively finding our markers on the back post. We're just waiting because I don't think that the guys on the bench, save for you know, offensively, maybe Freddie can step in. I think he
provides a little something different. Maybe it's at Bear finds his foot, But other than that, I don't see anyone on this roster coming in for the last nine games and really taking hold of that position. And that's a real real game changer. The one guy is Christian who's coming back from the concussion
and we hopefully we can get him back. Maybe he's the answer, but right now I completely agree it just it doesn't feel the cohesion, doesn't feel like there, and it was not good tonight, not good at all, really not a good time. We'll take a break, we'll come back and get to our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match and can rap of our discussion about tonight's two nothing loss here to Atlanta. It is a loss to start this final stretch of the
season. We'll continue breaking it down on the postgame show next on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM. Welcome back to luman Field the postgame show, talking about a Sounders two nothing lost tonight to the visitors Atlanta United. Nine games left in the regular season now, and we'll talk about where the Sounders go from here coming up later in the post match show. But it's
time for our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match. We turn to the thirty sixth minute when the man who set a club record tonight picked up a big save at Plant Bank point blank range. The etl bucks pots is once back to the feet of Alma to top of the bucks tickles free of Jordan
Morris twenty yards out, tries to flick it. We'll flick twarts kamakas and it's good saved by that Fen Fry yackabaks lots across he thought he was offside, he wasn't and a lancer again have a good chance inside the six job bucks good reactions say by Stephen Fry the play the matches was sent it by Emerald Queen Casino at the betting capital of the Northwest. I mentioned the club record. There's Stephen Fry passing Ozzy Alonzo tonight. Two hundred and forty total
club appearances in the MLS era. That is the most in Sounders FC history, passing Ozzy here tonight. And Brad to go back to comment, you made the previous second about Stephen fryes stepping up and maybe he's the one who can see the change that needs to happen. Interesting change that we saw right before the break happened a few weeks ago was Stephen Fry is the Sounders captain on the field right now no longer. Nicholas Laro Fry has the captain's armband.
Does that change anything in terms of him being able to step up and say something, him seeing something that needs to switch. Does that play into any of the fix that needs to happen. Yeah, obviously it wasn't Whatever was working before was it wasn't working. I think sometimes inside of a locker room there needs to be a change. And maybe that was Schmetz's way of saying, Okay, I just want you, Niko, to focus on soccer.
I just want you to focus on yourself and getting back to the player that we know you can be. Don't worry about, you know, moving pieces on the field and being the guy that's telling you know, talking to the ref or moving players around and trying to really solve the puzzle. Just focus on yourself. I remember Ozzie had the captain c or something happened in the locker room where he was given the captain's arm band and before the game he didn't want it, so we just threw it to me and that's how
I became captain of the team from then on out. So, you know, I don't know what went down in the locker room and what made Steph you know, ultimately have that arm band, but maybe he was a guy that was being more vocal in the locker room. He's the guy that's been here for a long time. I remember that bad run we had in twenty sixteen, and you know, we had lost the game and I went in and Jovin was kind of like on his cell phone and he was okay with
us losing. And I think I said in the press, like, we don't lose here, like it's not okay to ask you that question, and that's right. And so I think maybe that's what happened is Steph sees something and smells something from behind that was there before that isn't there now. So maybe it's his responsibility to take it by the reins and turn this thing around, you know, being that leader. I remember that in twenty sixteen.
I remember I remember asking you, like the chick, if you see a change that needs to happen, you lit it a guman And I'm kind of like, God, did I just pissed Bravens. Yeah? I couldn't believe it. He was like okay with losing because they've come from a losing team and she could be one for for so long. He's a great player. Yeah, but you just don't lose here, and so maybe that's what needs to be said in there. It's maybe it's as simple as that is.
You know, turn this thing around by showing that you care because that was lackluster. Right. We had chances though, and that's the thing. Nikos got to score that on his right foot. Yeah, and it's the post. It might change the game. We might score another one like Vancouver roth Rock in Houston, another late, late game winner. So it's it's there to be had. It's just a little bit off in lack Sir, red No, because I think I was right here that was when it was one
nothing. Still he scores that. It's one one, totally different, different twenty plus minutes frustrating loss for your Sounders tonight by a score at two nothing to Atlanta United here at lumen Field. Well tell Us Airline is product to doing it one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season their Ray Foundations one Mile, one Ball program. Brad as we look ahead to the road match a week from today. You know, after a match like this too, nothing lost to Atlanta. Do you switch anything up in the week of training ahead, whether it's higher intensity, shorter sessions, you know, et
cetera, et cetera. Do you change anything about the way that you treat this next week after a game like this. Yeah, I think that's a great question. I don't think it's it's like any punishment to the team, because I think effort was was was there for the most part. I mean we were closing plays down. Now now, was it mentally reall there? No, So I would say they come out and increase intensity this week. Let's make it a whole competition week. I'm sure they did that for the
past three weeks, but they weren't in a game rhythm. So having a tournament day, right, maybe there's a champion of the tournament day. You still love playing that throughout the week. It wasn't part of our normal routine, but we usually did it when we needed a little bit of explaining that half in our steps. So it's basically a day of either you know, five y five sixty six or seven B seven and you play a giant round robin against all the teams, maybe it's two games each, and it's competitive.
It's short, it's tight. It's about putting the ball in the back of the net from short distances, so it's smaller fields. You're right in front of the goal, it's basically the eighteen yard boxes, you're halfway line, so tons of shots, tons of goals. You're sliding, you're showing that extra effort in those games, and it's competitive. You stay with the same team the whole time, and maybe that's what we need right now.
It's just that extra competitiveness and maybe that you never know, it brings out something in someone that inspires them to head into Sunday's game. That's going to be a massive game against Minnesota, a team that's flying right now, playing really well. And sometimes that's what you need. Because I think they had the time off and away from the game. They had four days off right as we left that Monterey game. So that's not an excuse anymore to get
away. Now. It's about competing and fighting and getting that passion, get that energy, and we want to see at nine games left in the season. Right now, Sounders fourth place in the Western Conference, but with a lot of teams on their heels, including Houston who picked up a five nothing win over Portland tonight. Thank you Brad Smith, Thank you Houston. That
was beautiful. But there's a lot of teams right below the Sounders. They got to pick up the pace or Sounders could find themselves at a lower seat in the Western Conference. Do not want to see that. Well, we will talk to you this coming or next Sunday, a week from today one pm pre match one thirty kickoff right here Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, So make sure to tune us in and we will see what happens.
