Tonight is turning from the
MLS regular season to the US Open Cup. It's the Round of thirty two and your Seattle Sounder is after a whild five to four win over the San Diego loyal As. Starfire Sports Complex are in Los Angeles to face the Galaxy for a trip to the Sweet sixteen of the two thousand and twenty three US Open Cup. So welcome in to the Sounders FC Premat Show, presented by
Providence, Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. My name is Jackson Felts, and I'm pleased to welcome on my good friend, our Puget sound soccer expert. You've heard him all along Sounders Weekly shows throughout the last many, many many years. Andrew Harvey Andy Andrew, good to have you in here today. I have to say, probably my favorite competition that you know, as a guy who spends all his time working in lower division soccer,
the Open Cup is kind of the beginning and end for me. I love it so much. It's so many great moments over the years in the US Open Cup, and we'll see if we can get another one of those tonight for your Seattle Sounders. There's a lot to get to here on tonight's show. We'll get to the starting formations for both starting lineups for both Seattle and the LA Galaxy. And then these are some names that you're gonna want to hear coming up in just a few moments, we'll get to the Providence
Swedish team health reports. We'll talk about what the Galaxy are putting out there in Carson, California tonight. Later on in our Sharp Vision Opponent Outlook, we'll have our players to watch and keys to the match all before kickoff, which will be right at the bottom of the hour at seven thirty, because we are just twenty eight minutes away from kick between the Sounders and the LA Galaxy in Carson, California. Tonight's countdown a kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen
Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. But Andrew, but before we dig into all of these things, we got to kind of talk about how the Sounders got here, and they got here in another wild Open Cup match. First, I mean, it really is the first Open Cup win in
five six years for this team because the record has been so poor. But then just a couple of weeks ago a starfire, the five to four win after one hundred and twenty minutes where you get two goals out of Freddy Montero, you get three goals from young kids, with all scoring their first ever senior team goal. That was a crazy, crazy game a couple weeks ago,
it absolutely was. Jackson and I have to say, for my part, the and I know no one ever engages in the act of hyperbole in sports radio, but I think it might be the craziest Open Cup match in Sounders history. That's saying a lot. That's including right, eleven rounds of penalty kicks against San Jose in twenty twenty two, and of course that match we don't talk about from back in twenty fifteen. So I mean, it really was amazing it had everything. Club legend Freddy Montero with the late late
after extra time, stoppage time penalty kick winner. Just a great match and again righte one of those good chances for young players to come out and kind of prove themselves that maybe they deserve more of a look in league play for first team minutes. Well, and you're seeing a lot of guys who start in that match going to be playing tonight. We'll get to that delta starting information in a moment, but you know, games that invigorate confidence and get
guys more minutes. Reid Baker Whiting, we'll tell you already, he's in the starting information. You know, he had a great He had a banger from you know, at thirty yards out in extra time that got the Sounders a lead for ten minutes. And you know the moments for him that earned him a start against Sporting Kansas City, and certainly after what happened last Sunday, he now gets another start. Gonna have to have a good performance, you know, overall, coming off of a loss like that on Sunday.
I know, you know read touch the field. Freddy Montero tests the field. Not too many others from from what we're seeing in the roster today for the Sounders. But you know, I think Brian Schmitzer and in the coaching staff and just all these guys watching that game, they want to put that to bed. They want to put that behind him. What happens Sunday to Kansas City, and they want to move forward and get a win today against
a good Galaxy team. Yeah. Absolutely, I think it's one of those convenient realities of this not being League play, Jackson is it's a chance to one put a fresh lineup out there, rotate the minutes, rotate the legs, and still get those young guys that opportunity to come forward and contribute meaningfully to a chance to help bring another trophy to an already overstuffed trophy cabinet. It's absolutely right. And with that set of in terms of those young players,
let's get to that delta starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders. Absolutely so for your Seattle Sounders in goal, you have Steph Cleveland. The back four might play more like a back three depending on how this manifests. Is Cody Baker, Ariaga a b Sisoko, and Reed Baker Whiting the mids, Soda Kitahara Josh Atensio, Paul Rothrock, Dylan Tevez and Ethan double Air and Freddy
Montero still slotted in at that starting striker position. Yeah, so a lot of the familiar names that we saw in the game against San Diego a couple of weeks ago. Now quickly, let's take a look at the LA Galaxy, and there are a lot of very good names here. Bonding goal. You got Jude Casaras, Neil Kalaghari, Brugman in the middle of the park, and he had a great game against Seattle about what about a little over a month ago when the Sounders went down to Carson and one, two to
one. Ricky Pooge is also starting for the Galaxy. And Ricky Pooge is a name that you'll probably hear a lot from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans, who are gonna be calling the game here in just about a half hour. Ricky Pooge is an immensely talented player. Markie Delgado, veteran in Major League Soccer, has started in multiple MLS cups for Toronto. He starts tonight for the La Galaxy. Vive Boyd and Javier Chicarito Hernandez is starting in an Opening
Cup match. He is starting against the Seattle Sounders. So really, Andrew, you look at it right now, just on paper, and I know, I mean, listen to the honest truth of the Sounder fans are looking at this right now saying, okay, wait, the LA Galaxy are putting out a one hundred percent normal starting eleven with every single one of their star players. They're going for it. I mean right now, they're they're basically they're tied for last place in MLS right now, they're going for it.
And Seattle is putting out a lot of Tacoma Defiance players. So how do you read this? Well, I mean, Jackson write. What I'd say is, technically there's only two Tacoma Defiance players in this starting eleven, between roth Rock and Baker. The rest just happened to be young guys who are good enough to earn Major League Soccer contracts. The Sounders believe in their academy.
They've been doing it for years, and so I think this is very different from kind of Open Cups past, that frustrating loss to Sacramento a few years ago, that that kind of sticks in people's craw where you know, maybe they were much more of a developmental side. I don't see this as that from Bryan Spencer. I see this as a young side, a hungry side, and a side that maybe wants to go out there and stick it
to some of the star players in this league. I think, guy, that's a huge motivation when they go out there and they line up and they see the names and the faces across from that has to be a motivating point and to say, let's go pull off an upset, Let's go show him that we're ready for the light. For the lights. I mean looking at the Sounders bench too, there's a couple of big names on here. You
know. Not only do you have you know Andrew Thomas, who has many you know, you see him on the bench for the first team a number of times. Hal Uteritz, who I believe scored for Tacoma against a lost dose Elle Galaxy two. Down there, he actually leads the team and goals as a center back with four does he really? Yeah, Wade Weber's letting the big dogs eat down there and stuff fired. But you also have Joel
Paulo and Nicholas Ledarrel. They're on the bench for Seattle tonight. So if Brian Schmitzer finds himself in a close game in the second half, you have Nico and JP to throw on there and against what could be tired legs for the Galaxy Stars, suddenly you have a one hundred percent Nico and JP in the sixtieth or whatever minute. That could be a big difference maker in the second half of this game. Absolutely, and it's all going to come down
to. However, this first half kind of manifests itself, Jackson, It absolutely will, and we'll see if these young kids can play really well, can show up, show out and keep things on point so that if they're close in the second half, then you see the big stars for Seattle, JP and Nico come on. Well, we'll see how they Again, exactly what you just said, this game manifests itself. We mentioned to Cooma there there are six total short term agreements of players coming up, including Cody Baker
and Paul Rothrock in that starting eleven. As you mentioned, there are four of the other guys. They're on the bench coming from Wade webersite and Wade website. As we've talked about on Sounders Weekly many times throughout the year, that is having a very good campaign this year, coming off of their most successful campaign I think in club history last year. Yeah, the first season
in MLX Next Pro had a really good playoff run. We're big contenders and right at the top of the overall kind of league table throughout the season. Right back to that form this year again. Right. It's a testament to the academy that the club has built and invested in over the years. It's paying dividends now. And I think the real story there is guys like Atensio and Open Vargas and Danny Lava and everyone else who's come up and played their
way to a first team contract. And now the question is when are those guys going to start to break through and go, I'm the seventeen year old that should be starting on Saturdays against the lafc's of the league. That's exactly right. And we saw Reed Baker White and get that started against Kansas City, so a chance for both him and many others to say, give me
more minutes. Brian Schmitzer should be noted that the team is obviously in Los Angeles tonight for the Open Cup. They're then going to be playing in Houston on Saturday. That match is always going to be here on this station, Sports Radio nine fifty KJR AM. Saturday's match will be a five pm pre
match, five thirty kickoff against the Houston Dynamo down there in Houston. Everybody traveled, the entire team travel and the first team, you know, you're Jordan Morris's you know, all of them are except for Leo chi Leo chi Is is still in sew He's expecting the birth of his son coming up this weekend. He was questionable for today's game. I believe he stayed in Seattle and then he's expecting this, so he's not there in Houston. So there's
that. But there's a few others also that are gonna be missing that we'll get into in a moment. Well. And that actually Jackson brings up a good point too about this young lineup being thrown out. There is that prospect of iron Sharpen's iron. These young guys have been training against the best team in the Western Conference weekend and week out all season long, so maybe they're
a little bit more ready to go than some people might suspect. I think that's a good point right there, really quickly on the point of who else is missing? This game. I mentioned Leo Chi questionable with the foot injury perb Brian Schmenzer A knew who perb Brian Spencer in that press conference after Sporting Kansas City. He had malaria. He had been he was treated for that and now he is dealing with a large spleen as a product of the malaria.
The malaria is now it seems like that that's no longer an issue, but it is that in large spleen that is an issue for new who Christian rolled on still in concussion protocol, A team's taking the long term approach on that. Hall rue Daz still working back from a hamstring strain about three weeks now out. We think Callen Rowe knee sprain five to seven weeks, you know. So we'll see exactly how the team can overcome these losses over these
next two games. And Tonight's team health report is presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. All right, we'll tell you a break. We'll come back and talk about the hosts for today's game in the US Open Cup the LA Galaxy. You're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJR. So welcome back to the Providence Swedish pre much show looking ahead to Seattle Sounders and LA Galaxy in the US Open Cup Round of thirty two. Mentioned there, we were talking about what the Sounders are putting out today for the Open Cup. I should also mentioned the reason they don't have obed Varius is because obed Vargas was just named to the USU twenty men's youth national team
roster for the twenty twenty three FIFA twenty World Cup in Argentina. So that is why you have the midfield pairing today of josh A Tancio and Soda Kiyohara. No obed Vargas is going to be in the lineup today, nor for Houston obviously coming up this weekend. But now it's time for our sharp vision opponent outlook, and Andrew, we got to talk about this LA Galaxy team. They are one three and six. They're tied for last place in the
league in MLS with just three points. Most recently lost to Colorado at home last weekend three to one, and the Galaxy got their lone goal in the eighty nine minutes, So that was just a demolition Andrew. Meanwhile, they're throwing out a relief and we gave it the last segment. A fantastic lineup today, yeah, Jackson. I mean, this is the lineup from a side that desperately needs to get something going in the right direction on their season.
And it absolutely shows in the eleven that Greg Vanny's put out there this evening. I mean you see Chiecurrito and Ricky pushin there, Brugman in there, who had a great game against the Sounders down on on April first, when the Sounders one two to one with their first team. I mean, this is going to be a big task for guys like Soda and guys like you know, Cody Baker facing these great players. I mean Rickie Pooge versus versus Soda, Kyahara and josh A Tensio. That for me is the number
one match up I'm watching this entire game. Yeah, and again, right, this is a message from the LA Galaxy really to their fans who right, they've dealt with walkouts from their supporters group in recent ones. President Chris Klein had to put out a letter basically promising that he would resign his position if the club didn't make the playoffs, And at the time we were all saying, well, nine out of fourteen clubs in the Western Conference make the
playoffs, how hard could that be? Here they are ten matches in with a one, three and six record in that span, and so maybe, right, psychologically, something enters into an organizational mindset where Okay, we didn't play in the last round of the Open Cup, we enter in this one.
We're five wins away from a trophy and a Champions League spot, and it's one of those ones where, right, I know there's a lot of arguments back and forth about what is the value of the Open Cup in modern MLS, But at the end of the day, I think a lot of
people go home. I'm pretty happy. They go, hey, listen, we won one of the big three this year and they're in chant they would get in Champions League, which, as we know from the Sounders now MLS and from LAFC, playing in the final two MLS has a great shot of winning Champions League up for the second straight year. So I mean, listen, at the end of the day, the Galaxy have scored eight goals this entire season. Boyd's got one of them, Neil's got one of them,
Jews got one of them. Marquis del Gatto, Ricky Pooge, Chiecritos. That's you know, basically six of your eight and all six in the game today. Fourth the LA Galaxy. This will be a tough test for the Seattle Sounders tonight. We'll take a break, we'll come back, give you our Sounders players to watch the keys to the match. We are counting you down. About thirteen minutes away from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans call in the

Welcome back to the Providence Spish prematch show. Jackson felt here alongside Andrew Harvey. We are just ten minutes away from kick between the Sounders and the La Galaxy in Carson, California, in the US Open Cup Round of thirty two. Tonight's countdown a kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. Should mention that previous segment there we talked deep about the La Galaxy there and tonight's opponent, Alec was presented by Sharp Vision, Modern
Lasic and Lens, the official lasic provider of Sounders FC. We'll take a look at the history between these two teams overall in MLS history. Seattle with the win earlier this year, they're now sixteen, fourteen and thirteen against the Galaxy in Carson. At that number is six six and seven. Now we looked back, you know, we mentioned the Sounders beat the Galaxy just about a month and a half ago. The Tacoma Defiance also beat La Galaxy two
Los Dose by a score of three to one. Just what about two weeks ago, Andrew and that game featured I believe a couple people who are playing for the Sounders tonight in this game. Yeah, notably roth Rock, who had a goal in that competition and us did as well if I recall correctly, And we were expecting there to be a little bit more overlap I think between the starting elevens from that night's contest and tonight, But the Galaxy came in and sure change that. Well, you mentioned one of them there,
So let's get right to artist soundersc players to watch for tonight's match. Yeah, for me, it's got to be Paul roth Rock, right. He scores nine minutes into his first team debut against San Diego in the Open Cup. I remember him running laps around the Washington Huskies in the nc DOUBAA tournament back in twenty nineteen. I think when the Georgetown hoy has won a national
title. He's got four assists for Tacoma Defiance and unimportant, he is a Lakeside school man Go Lions, but no, I think look, roth Rock is a guy who who knows kind of how to get it done at the level below this one. And tonight is the question of okay, here's the big time, show us what you can do. I mean, if if he can come out with a great performance and score again and you know, the Sounders poll victory against this Halle Galaxy team who are starting all over their
stars. I mean we're talking, you know, Colt hero type of stuff. If roth Rod can put on another big performance, my eyes are going to read Baker Whiting. Um, he had a great game in the US Open Cup against San Diego, scored the banger in extra time, really fantastic
game from the right back spot. Got the start against Sporting Kansas City, and he had a tough day, really really really tough day for Baker Whiting there last Sunday against Kansas City. But he's getting the start again tonight, So read, you gotta put that behind you, make it so that's Sunday's game never even happened. Just you know, you have to have the memory
of a goldfish, as Ted Lasso says, forget about what happened. Put your head down, have a great game here in the in the Open Cup again and show that Brian Spencer to you know you deserve continuous and more minutes for the first team. Well, we'll take one more break. We'll come back and give you the keys to this match. Just about six seven minutes away from kick. Danny Jackson and Brad Evans will have the call coming shortly on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. AM. Hey, Deck's fan here.

Before Danny Jackson and Brad Evans have the call, let's get some keys to the match. Andrew Harvey, what are
you looking at, Jackson? This is a young lineup against a very, very talented LA Galaxy team. It's just this sees your moment. If you want to be a part of the Seattle Sounders, you have to emerge in a big way when the club calls on you to do so. Players have done that. Brian Schmittzer did that when he took over for Ziggy back in twenty sixteen. A lot of people thought he was a caretaker appointment and he went in one MLS Cup. You have to take what's offered to you.
It doesn't matter that they're older or maybe more experienced. Just go out there and go right at them, go right at them. Indeed, start off on the front foot and you know, punch him in the face and listen. I mean, the Galaxy may have a plan here, but as Mike Tyson says, everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. So punch the Galaxy in the face and let's see what happens. Keep this match close into the second half. Joel Paulo and Nicholas Ladero on the bench.

Good evening from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, where the Sounders square off against their long time rival, the LA Galaxy and this US Open Cup round of thirty two the round. The Sounders have enjoyed success in the US Open Cup over the years, with four wins including a three p O nine, ten, and eleven, but recent times have not been so good,
without an appearance in the last eight since twenty sixteen. The Sounders are seeing another Cup run as a great opportunity to add more silverware to the trophy cabinet for the LA Galaxy. The US Open Cup will be a respite from the increasing pressure that is building on the team with just one win the season, Greg Vanny needs something positive from the game tonight. My name is Danny
Jackson alongside former Sounders captain Brad Evans for the call tonight. Brad, after an exciting five four win in the last round versus San Diego, what are your keys to the game tonight? Oh? After a hot start. This is a young squad for the Sounders and I think this is one where we can get on top of the Galaxy. Well, we also thought about that this past weekend against against Sport in Kansas City at home. And now it's
a real chance for these young guys to step in. Read Baker Whiting goes back out to the right hand side, So guys are going to fit into more normal positions for them and I think that will allow for better success. But this is a difficult LA Galaxy lineup of a team that's reeling. Well,
let's get to those lineups. The delting starting eleven for your cl sounder's Steph Cleveland and Goal at back, four of Baker, Whiting, Sasoko Ariaga and nineteen year old Cody Baker on the left hand side, Atensio and Keitahara in the middle, and attacking three of double Aire Tevez and roth Rock and
Freddy Montero up front. For Greg Vanny and his LA Galaxy team, it's gonna be a four four two Jonathan Bonding, Goal, Kalagari, Cassaris, Neil and no Day on the left hand side, midfield four of Delgado, Brugman, Boyd and Pouge, and then Gino, viv and Cheeta Rito upfront. So, as you mentioned, Brat's strong lineup for the Galaxy, kind of shows what hand they want to play tonight. Yeah, I think this is the Galaxy squad that has to get a result one win in MLS Cup
play, I think. And it's a team where their supporters are now starting to get on top of them, and whenever that happened, that's added pressure. So this is a group that's saying we have to win, and we have to win now, and we don't care if it's Open Cup, whatever tournament it is. We got to right the ship somehow. And they're asking a lot of their guys now to play Saturday Wednesday, Saturday Wednesday, but they have to do something to get a result tonight. Well, may's a
pile up of games for all the teams. Sounds at Houston and then back home next Wednesday against Austin. But as the referee gets lined up ready to
go here at Dignity Health Sports Parking Cows in California. It was only a handful of weeks ago when the Sounders were here and got to win against the Galaxy somewhat against the run of play, but one of those grind out results that gets us three points and gets us to whether the Sounders are right now in MLS right at the very top of the Western Conference Sounders shooting from left to right. As we wait for the kick to go, sounds worrying that
Bruce Lee awake it. Dylan Tevez gets the game going, as we said, a future changes to the lineup versus from San Diego, but the sound is going to put out consistent team here as the ball goes long, dropped to Freddy Montero to the left hand side to Cody Bak, who came on the second half against Sporting Casey Ere the weekend, had a really solid performance down to the left hand side. Josh Tenzier back in the starting lineup tonight
after being out for a handful of weeks through injury. Ball on the right hand side, Boyd tries to flick it around the corner, doesn't. Rothrock closes the ball down and again, as we said, the Galaxy strong starting lineup. Jay Lenneil. Here on the ball left is O Day, their new acquisition from South America, the Argentinian, as Greg Vanny said, one
of the best left backs in South America. But as the game gets going, you feel, Brad, it's going to be a slow paced You feel like it's going to be one of those games it's going to pick up gears as it goes. Yeah. Well, I think initially we thought the Galaxy were going to come out in a four four two, and maybe they will defensively, but offensively. They're sitting with three in the back and allowing you know, a little bit of a midfield shake up here as they try to
build out to the back. But this is a Galaxy team that typically four four two is very predictable, so I think for them to switch in what looks like a three in the back now, allowing Poosh to come and find the ball. This will provide a challenge for the Sounders as we look to look to defend these especially long balls now, which is good pressure from the Sounders. Bull goes lump from pun when in the air by Oriaga, but
it's pooge. It picks the ball up in the Sounds territory. Attacking the goal twenty yards out, goes past to so cool with the ease it clips off a sound At player in Oriaga goes out for a corner kick. First corner kick for the Galaxy remains nil nil. This is where we have to be careful. We have four in the back, but Atensio pushes forward there tries to win ahead and no one's sitting in that space. You look here, here's the replay. A Tensio pushes forward. We got everyone push forward.
Now Kitahara there as well provides push. And at some point you have to step and make your challenge. You can't just let Puge drive into the eighteen and take a shot because his quality is gonna put something on frame. Bull on the Galaxy right hand sights. We've been outswinging corner comes in top of the six job bucks cleared by Ariaga. Top of the box. Strike could say fight and it's the back of the net. What a start by
the Galaxy. It was twenty five yards out. Steph Cleveland reached out his hands, couldn't get a strong enough palm on it, and it goes into the top corner. What a start by La Galaxy. And this is where I have a problem on these corner kicks, a little bit of zone. We do good job winning the header, but no one's on top of the box. The Galaxy have two guys on top of the box, one on the right, one on the left, and it pops out to his left
foot and this is a ball. You know, Ariaga gets up and wins his header, but someone's got to be on top of the box and absolutely laces it with his left foot. Steph Cleveland nothing to do. I think he gets a hand on it, but this view provide us. Yeah, it just fades why Cleveland's got to do better there, harries it into his own net pretty much just doesn't know. He's got a good look at it,
but he doesn't get a good jump. We mentioned o Day coming in and what a stripe by the young man left back, as Greg Vanny said, one of the best left backs in South America comes to the La Galaxy on a five year contract from Athletico Lanous twenty years old and rifles the ball
in the up and ninety to get La Galaxy on the board. And now the sounder is gonna have to find a way to get back in this game as it goes on the right hand side with Baker Whiting attacking on the right hand side, goes past his man, goes past Oda covered well by the Galaxy, puts it out for a sound its corner kick. Good to response
by the boys. Yeah, great response there. Red Baker Whiting on his more natural right hand and side finds some space forward, center back gets the ball, finds a good entry ball to Doublaire and a good combination play and to win a corner kick here, Key, he's got to get something on frame with good service. We'll light crowd today at Dignity Sports part. But the ball comes in top of the box headed by what looks like Atensio over the top, going to be a goal kick for the LA Galaxy remains.
Galaxy wons Seattle nil and certainly Brad Sporting Kansas City got off to a fast start in the last game and LA Galaxy tonight fast off for them as well. Just what Greg Viney would have wanted to seeing a little bit of a trend here. Desperate teams, desperate times are going to do desperate things in the Galaxy. Yeah, it didn't look pretty in the beginning, but the ball goes back to the keeper. They send a long ball, we miss aheader and all of a sudden they're on top of us with six guys up
front. Poosh picks the ball up middle of the field, switch the ball from sent to left as Steph Cleveland comes out, slides out and knocks it down the right hand side, and the Galaxy got to pick up the loose bull with o Day the goal scorer five yards. It's focused now. Right when you enter these games, you're you're thinking to yourself, Okay, first five minutes, we're gonna do everything we can to put the ball. We
don't have to play beautiful soccer away from home. We just need to get a result, similar to what they did playing the Galaxy and regularly play a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, it wasn't the prettiest, but the ability to grind out a result, and you know it comes from a set piece and these things are going to happen. But now we look for the Sounders to settle in a bit. But this is an energized Galaxy team. Right off the side, bull down the right hand side, board towards the end
line, cuts it back blocked by Baker. Baker closes the bull down board, takes it touch, whips it back in the right foot. Sosco with his head knocks it up in the air at Tensio cleans it up, clears the ball. Montero dropping into the number ten roll. Now as Tevis plays a little higher, the field receives it in the on the left hand side, clipped by Jaylenneil foul free kick for the Sounders. Remains more nil set
piece opportunities. This is where we're gonna have to step in. It's not desperation at this point, right We're still only five minutes into this game. But it's a situation now where Sensisco potentially or do we sit him back.
Looks like we're gonna play from here, which which is no problem. Eighty five minutes to find a good scoring chance, and it's about being clinical today away from home Sounds with the ball working along the back line, Cody Baker with his left foot, plays the ball into TeVeS is in the number ten spot. I think we'll see Montero and TeVeS switch positions often tonight. We're sorting in practice during the week. Montera comfortable playing in that whole. TeVeS
certainly as that experienced scoring goals both Defiance certainly the University of Washington. As the ball goes from center to right, read Baker white and cuts the ball back, but well covered by Ella galaxy. Del Gada clears the ball dropped top of the box right corner with a Tensio comes onto his left foot plays the ball square to strike by roth Rock, blocked and the Galaxy come away with it right hand side. Boyd plays it back all the way to Kalighari,
who had such joy in the last game against the Sounders. Cuts the ball back and collected by Johnathon Bondy with good pressure by roth Rock, clips off his heels, eventually roll to Jonathan bond but Montero just just an inch away from nicking it past the goalkeeper. Yeah, if you're gonna play high pressure, this is the time to do it. Fresh legs, young kids. Galaxy are trying to control the temple in the back and you're waiting,
you're sniffing for that little result. That's good pressure from the Sounders to almost recover a ball inside the Galaxy's eighteen yard box. We're at Dignity Health Sports parkin fifty KGr am. The Galaxy deck town all white shirts, white shorts, white socks, shooting from right to left the sounds and they're changed. Bruce Lee kit shooting from left to right as the Sounds pick it up in Galaxy territory left hand side, deep towards the end line, closed down well
by the Galaxy, but the ball comes in towards double. Larrey lets it go cleared by the Galaxy, chested by Puge all the way out to Chicaro and the starting lineup had some choice words for his team after that three one loss of the weekend versus Colorado. Who will appreciate the way that the Galaxy
have started this game. As the ball goes from left to right, Boyd cleects the ball, Helly jury in support comes back and the Galaxy now maintaining possession and sound as half of the field sounders eleven men behind the ball. As Tevis closed the ball down back to young Jayla Neil to the goal scorer. O Day and Brad, you've mentioned how big this field is, only a few yards probably in either side and either end, but it just feels
vast. It feels big because the sideline is so far away from the field, so as you look out, your eye tricks you a little bit and into thinking that it's so much bigger. But it does play big, and I think you don't have to be the most technically gifted player to find success here. So it's a good opportunity for our young guys to use the field. Pooge comes away that thirty outs from goal, comes across, skips by Ariaga top of the bus, tries to slide in. Well picked up Caligari
clips the ball to the batpost head of by Cheecherrido over the top. Goal kick sounds remains one nilus. And here's the issue. When you do have a very technically gifted player like Pooge, he's going to be able to find space and find those passes. And that's a great run. He picks it up off of our defensive midfielders and he's able to find space there and almost slip a ball into a good spot. But as you said, Chichirito is the one who's leading this today. He looks fired up. His touches have
been great, and that's a guy. Sometimes you have to lay into your team and go to the press and say, hey, this isn't good enough. This is an LA Galaxy team that has had really good success in Open Cup. Maybe they haven't won that many as of late, but they have a very good record in this tournament and so I don't think they take it lightly. And tonight is a game where I think Chichirido said I'm playing tonight.
Well, big players need to step up in big moments and you're gonna lead from the front, and Cheecho has certainly done that throughout his career, whether it's a Man United in Spain in Germany. What a career he has had as he comes towards the finish line of his career, but certainly a lot of motivation for his team to try and get a result and get out of this deep holder of the team's built themselves into so far one win on
the MLS season. Put up one nil tonight as Sosoko has the ball, no real pressure from the Galaxy. As cheech Rado steps towards Oriaga plays the ball into Attenia, which sees the ball back to goal. Pressure from Brugman, nothing forward. His click comes off as he maintains possession and this is where we can find success. As the Sounders build out patients from Sosoko.
Maybe I gotta go back, but now they're finding good pockets here. As we move forward, ball into double a inside the box, he's got a chance to chutch the ball back to Freddy Montero six yard bucks cleared off the line. It was a wonderful chance. Good bill hold up by the Sounders found its way to double air inside the box to cut the ball back. Montera had a couple of settled touches and then shot the ball, but he was cleared off the line by the Galaxy went over the end line for a
Sounders corner kick. A great movement from the Sounders here. Like I said, Sosoko really starts his play with patients stepping up winning the ball and that's one that Freddie has to finish there. It's a goal line save, yes, and he takes a fantastic touch. I'd love to see him just smash it with his laces there. And the Galaxy are very very fortunate there as the Sounders are starting to find some success and like we said, the spacing
has been very good from the Sounders. Now that's a second or third time Reads come in on the right hand side interchange with doublelair. That's quality stuff. We're certainly seeing Read have the opportunity to go along. We saw that with obviously over the course of the season so far, the last couple of seasons with Alex roldn Wood, an effect he's had, and certainly the twists and changes that Brian's made to allow Alex Roller on a push forward read Baker
waiting Siddy doing that, and we just saw a replay of that. He was off the thi mee of the Galaxy to anything. It's Kalighari went over the top and prevents the sound is getting on the board and getting that equalizer. As Cody Baker steps up heads the ball brought down well by Montero. Clash of bodies with Kalighari, It's gonna be a potential free kick. It looked like a free kick bread for Montera, but re free seems to get
it the way knowing Montero definitely not a free kick for us. I. You know, Montero obviously makes a commiss a foul there and he's playing it off like it like it's a foul for the Sounders. But I like what the Sounders are doing here. They're not allowing the Galaxy to play long. They want them to play short. And the reason for that is we want to recover the ball in our own attacking half as quickly as we can,
so we're gonna apply pressure in their own half. Maybe they do are forcingto playing a long ball, but with Sisoko, with Cheechi, Rito Atensio, we're gonna clean everything up and have a more advanced position getting this ball as Sisko smashes Cheechi Rito and gives them a little piece of the game. Yeah, I think that shows that the Sounders have a lot of frustration right now going down a goal. It was Ariaga came through the back of Chicherrito just
on the halfway line. We've seen this before with LAFC though, with Ariaga getting into Carlos Vella early in the game, and I think maybe that was missing from the first five minutes and allowing Ariaga to usually that's what he does get into the Strikers. Sound as FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of sound as FC. As Doubles steps forward to the goal
score o Day as the ball goes down the line. Pooge moving from left to right as he shifts the ball coming towards a sense of flicks the ball from center to right. We saw that in the first game, goes to Boyd overlapping run by the Galaxy. Galaxy and good support top right corner of the box goes into Chicherrito, pressured by Ariaga. The managed to turn and plays the ball back and Galaxy now getting good sustained pressure in the sound as
half of the field. As jaylen'neil receives the ball, O Day playing inside, pinching inside Vvy to come to the left hand side. The super draft pick picked up from the University of Central Florida Academy player Deputiva Saprissa. As the ball goes from Bond flicks it but well cut out by Rock Rock, who's a goal score of course against San Diego. But here comes the galaxy
of Kalighari. Picks it up out to Pouge left hand side, comes to the middle, tries to plant the ball in behind Oriaga cut out well, but it's the galaxy again. Who's going to come away that Brugman to Pouge and Poushe certainly had could temper when they played here just a couple of weeks ago. Heavily on the ball right now Boyd comes in on his left hand
side and it's the Galaxy now maintaining possession. Pooge again outside of his foot, there's Chicardo Pouge stepping by double air flicks the ball to the far right hand side to Kalighari. Ball comes in cleared by Oriaga controlled by TeVeS, pressure by Kalighari and again by Delgado, and he runs out for sounds thrown puce, showing his quality right now. He's been all over the field and him and VVR are interchanging whenever they want. That's providing a little bit of
discomfort, we could say for the Sounders right now. Is that spell of possession of three or four minutes for the bell A Galaxy as they play three in the back still in attack. It looked very fluid right now. And what I'm noticing from the Sounders are two sixes are getting turned a little bit too much. I think both of them are too high and too square. One of them needs to sit a little bit more and just sit in front of the two center backs. And if Puge is gonna go out wide,
let him go out wide. He's not a danger there. Just hold the middle, all right, I guess. Steps forward with the bullet sent a circle, plays the bullet to the right hand side to read Baker. Whiting has been advanced in his right back spots so far. Given the same license
is Alex rolled on, It's been effectives. Asco bullet his feet looking up, plays the ball to Greebaker whitching again right hand side level with the top right corner of the box, comes inside to attend to a quick ball to double let trust to flick it around the corner, runs over the end line for a Galaxy goal kick. Yeah, good play on the right hand side. Again. At some point you got to get out of your right hand side though. Atencio has a chance to turn switch the point of attack,
and he decides to force it into double air. And there's four or five Galaxy players in that in that area, and just to take a little look over your shoulder, the opportunity to switch the point of attack. free kick for Galaxy pruge on the ball. Light crowd in the stadium tonight making some noise cling will be much happy with what they've scene so far as their team is up and winning in a game which again we meant should one win on the season so far. Audi scoring early in the game in the third minute as the Galaxy try to come away that with Boyd on the right hand side, bundle off the ball by Roth rock ball in behind, clips
up and goes in behind for another Sounders corner kick. Good pressure from the Sounders again forcing the Galaxy to play with their fronts to their own goal. When you do that, you just can't let them turn and play out of pressure like we did against Kansas City. And that's why you afford a turnover that turns into a corner kick. Let the big guys get up take advantage
of these opportunities. Monterrey's right foot in swinging cross headed clear on the six yard bucks by the La Galaxy, but it comes out to read Baker Whites and comes in his left foot kills the ball in nicely headed and it's a great save. It was down the throat of Jonathan Bond didn't have to do too much other than just catch the ball six yards out free header any side left or right, it would have been a goal for the Sounders. Dried
Baker Whitey comes here. He cuts the ball on his left foot, rips a great delivery into the top of the six and it was ahead of a TeVeS right down the goalkeeper. Great chance for the sounds. Those are the ones where you got to just hit the grass anywhere on the ground. The ball's gonna skip up and slip past the keeper. But it's strikingly similar to the La Galaxy goal. Center back comes up, guy on the back post.
We take a touch and it's a fantastic ball from Reid putting it on his left foot in I don't think if someone doesn't touch it it may even slip into the back of the net. There Galaxy in possession. The sounds will be happy that a couple of good chances on goals so far. In the eighteenth minute here at Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California, nine to fifty KGr AM Galaxy one c l nil has Pouge has possession of the ball, goes inside. Sound is now trying to put some pressure on with
double a ball goes over the tops. Soka cuts it out with his head A tense you're a little slow in getting it. It's Oka wins the ball off the toes of Cheecha redo Chegera goes down. Nothing given by the referee out to Boyd right hand side. Kalighari flicks the balling goes across the six yard box and cleared by Reid Baker Whiting for a corner kick for the alle Galaxy. Huge showing his quality again every second ball he's picking up and driving
towards the Sounder's goal. And he may not get the assist or get a shot on Golder, but he's the one who leads the play there slips it in. It is a good tackle from Sosoko, but Phuge wins it. Slips the ball in between two Sounders defenders. Ball swing wide and Read does just enough here to get a touch on it and send it out for a corner. Confident touched by Red Baker whity little outside flick with his heel back he'll out for a corner kick and the Galaxy now two men top of the
box Ourday and his left hand side spot just where he scored it. Ball comes in, gets cleared by the Sounders and it's Caligari top of the box thirty yards strikes the ball just wide well certainly the Galaxy attesting Steph Cleveland and that Sounder's goal he was. Caligaria picked the ball up from the clearance, stepped forward, no real pressure, thirty yards hits a wide goal kick sound as bright evans again. Eleven guys in the Sounders box trying to win these
corner kicks when it really should be only be seven or eight. We need one guy up, two guys on top of the box. And again it's another opportunity for the Galaxy to get a shot almost on goal. Good turned by read Baker Whites and plays the ball across in the middle. It's the Montera. Flicks the ball out to the outside inside the corner box, gets towards the end like cuts it back read Baker White and chases the ball down. It was a good cross eventually found itself the right hand side channel and
read Baker White. It gets called for the foul by referee. It's gonna be a Galaxy free kick deep on that left hand side. Good build up from the Sounders here again, and Freddy Montero's the lynchpin right now. He's
the one that's providing any switch of play, any sort of creativity. As we look at the shot from distance from the La Galaxy, not too far off from Steph Cleveland, he's at full stretch there but the ball does go and a good good service from from the Sounders again finding themselves inside the La Galaxy box. Now it's up to read on the back post to take a chance and if you're gonna foul, someone do it one hundred yards away from
gold Well. As Freddy Monterra said is interviews this week, really enjoys these Cup competitions. It's one and done. Of course, US Open Cup being the oldest soccer tournament in the US started back in nineteen thirteen, so much history and certainly the Sounds being a part of that. Over the years. In my USL days, we made the semifinals in seven away didn't quite get up with a hump you guys, picks it up in nine, eleven, fourteen, Yeah, and a couple of final losses too, which I think
I think about more than the wins at this point. But you know, it's a fantastic tournament and it's one that you know, you go to starfire, You'll love to be involved in these games. And you know what, watching this game with a small crowd at day, I'd rather play in a small stadium somewhere else in California. Give me, you know, three or four thousand fans that are on top of me and really create that cop atmosphere.
The Sound has come away the inside Galaxy territory to the left hand side to Rothrock drops the ball back to Cody Baker and his orange cleats as Atensio steps forward with the ball Keitahara to Sasoko. Sound is keeping a little bit of possession now Montera quick little turn, finds himself twenty five yards out center of the goal, tries to find Tevers flashed in behind cut out well by the Galaxy. Vv plays the ball back to Oday, the gold scorer for
the Galaxy, into cheach Redo goodly after pougees. The Galaxy work it from left to center all the way out to the right hand side to Boyd and his bright yellow cleats. It's board is yellow cleats and Cody Baker in his orange cleats as the ball goes to Bond as he clips it. Ball long wall in the air by Oriaga. But Galaxy pick up that second ball, and those are the areas that the Sound is gonna have to pick up.
As the Galaxy come left hand side with Vivy challenged by Reed Baker, Whiting tries to find the ball sloppy passed by viv straight to double Aire as a sound has come away with it, and he was sloppy by double Are, sloppy by Atensio and the Galaxy come away with it now. But Brad, that's not what you want when he tried to chase a game. Yeah, a little sloppy play from bull sides right now, the ball plays it out
wide because the ball goes the right hand side. Caligary comes back, flicks the back post, headed well by Oriaga, finds himself the top of the box cleared by Kedahara. As Montero finds Temes in behind. He's got a chance, He's got some space. Jaylenneil defending TeVeS in the eighteen yard box, saved well by Bond. He looked for the front post, the space
was on the back post. But good break by the sounds. Is Montero shrugged off the pressure, found Tevers in behind, shot corner kicks sounds, sloppy play from bull sides and Montero does so good here to hold off as defender tell us, here's his timed run. Here is just perfect. And now he knows it's one v one. I gotta get in the box. But now it's got to be low driven to the far post. As a keepers all the way on his near post. It's just a slip ball to
the far post, and I think he's got a goal there. Bull comes in clear by the Galaxy, trickles back to the right hand side with Montero, plays the bullet to double eye inside the box. Pressure cut back to Suzoko, tries to hold the bull up. Calgary clears it cheats you right up back doing his defensive duties, tries to clear the bull the outside his foot. This sound has come away with it. Baker whiting to Montera right hand side channel towards the end line, challenged by the Galaxy, goes out
for a Sounders throwing deep on that right hand side. Good play from the Sounders again, keeping pressure in the Galaxy half. And when you do that, the ability to now retain possession for extended periods of time is going to be key here. And yeah, you can wait for the break, but now we have ourselves in the corner. Be patient and see if we can commit some more turnovers here. I think that's where the success is going to
come from. The Galaxy come away with pooge a little bit of pressure in hide by Keitahara, but Peuge gets away that it does so well getting away from pressure at that bull gets shifted to the left hand side to Boyd and it was a good challenge by a tensio. He's slid in read the danger came across. Here's a good challenge on Boyd. You have the opportunity for
about seventeen yards to collect the ball, but well timed. And this is where you see where this field becomes really big now and that another turnover in the Galaxy's half and Peuge is able to dribble the ball forty fifty yards and he's the lynchpin right now, and his interior passes are second to none. I haven't seen it too much this year, and even in Midjor league soccer play and tonight tonight he's on one and that's a fantastic tackle and recovery from
a tensio coming out of nowhere. Slide tackle. You gotta take a sacrifice in your own box and to win that ball, he's gonna be tired for the next five or ten minutes. After that, one bull goes into the bucks and it's Tevez. It collects it sister Refree puts his flag up offside on tabs. But those are the runs you want from the young man. As we see the replay, the galaxy did break well. They played it
quickly to the right. He was found to the left hand side to Boyd but a good tackle by Josh Atensio and certainly a big night brand for him tonight. He got a couple of starts at the beginning of the year, got injured. We've seen that before with him. He needs some run of games that be consistent with his health. Yeah, and what it's been said about him is his engine is incredible. The numbers that he puts up on
a consistent basis acceleration's top speed. He doesn't look like it because he's so tall in the ground that he covers might not look as much as others. But to get a goal, a fantastic goal, will probably be player of the game in that game, and then the next day of training to pull your adductor. But now tonight is the night where you get your feet back underneath you, a big field, stretch your legs, get your fitness.
It's a big night for a Tensio. Febe down the left hand side good break by the Galaxy, challenged by Baker, Whiting comes back nothing on goes all the way back to Pooge, who's dictating temper right now, managing the game for the Galaxy. In the middle of the puck, Fans dive deeper into the thrills and drama of the Lama hunt US Open Cup. Join the conversation on Twitter, on Instagram at Open Cup, and on Facebook at Official Dash Open Dash Cup. Bull switch center to write La Galaxy in possession.
He's a heavy touch by Boyd, cleared up well by Keita Harra. Bull trickles out of bounce for a Galaxy throwing on the right hand side. This is the challenge to night for a tensio and Keita har If Puge continues to pick up this ball. It kind of looks like rail Salt Lake of yester year, where m Espindler would come out wide pick the ball up and then all of a sudden, two minutes later he's all the way on the left hand side. Again, You're wondering who's mark is this, and it's got
to be one of the sixes that takes a chance. Then one of the sixes can just sit. But I think we might have to have someone that sits on Puge a little bit more tonight, because if he's going to continue to dictate this play, he's not getting tired. It's all done through passes.
He's gonna he's gonna carve this Sounders team apart. If if, if it continues like this, Ella Galaxy O Day as the ball comes inside to sound As Territory Galaxy now dictating some tempo Pouge again on the ball left hand side, comes across from left to center, reverse past top of the box of Cheecherio tries to go around Sosoko stands up strong, but again it's Pooshe again picks up the second ball. He's all over the place right now.
Little war pass. Calighari coming inside from his right backspot play more central tonight as he chases the ball down Steph Cleveland so solid at his left foot it gives the ball away cheaply and their defensive third of the field and the Galaxy pick it up with Boyd on the right hand corner of the box plays the ball out to the right hand side into the middle of Brugman. It's a VV overlapping run by oh Day and VV looks past, then comes inside his
right foot, hits the ball high and wide. Sound as gold Kit remains Galaxy one. Sound as nill. You see Pus there shaking his head as as they get a strike about thirty yards up her thirty rows up. Let me control the game, is what he's saying, Give me the ball. That's what he's feeling right now. And when you have are like that on
the field, this game could get out of hand for the Sounders. It's not getting out of hand as the Sounders are gonna play bad, but you start to turn your shoulder and wonder what space am I supposed to cover here? Read Baker Whiting right hand side, takes up some space down the right hand side to Tensio center. Read Baker Whiting staying wide. Tensio goes back to Sosoko. Sounds now try to catch their breath, create some tempo,
manage the game, get themselves back into this. Finding the open goal step over by roth rock Is a bull goes down the left hand side, Sounds in possession closed down by Delgado clip by the sound is. It's going to be a goal. A free kick for the Ally Galaxy on their right hand side. Those are the times brad Way, you just you have that pressure in you're attacking half of the field and then just a cheap foul. It kind of takes out the momentum in that attack. It takes the wind out
of the sales there. The Sounders, like you said, are looking to control a little bit of tempo. They do a good job, a good interchange on the left hand side, a little dummy step over and now it's the final product. And understanding that this is a starting lineup for the Galaxy, what might happen on any other normal day or last week against San Diego
loyal is not going to happen tonight. Read Bakaway steps well, wins it from Pooshe but Pooge a little step over easisierlike finds the Galaxy maintaining possession. Pooge again driving forward with the ball outside the foot to Boyd righthand site twenty yards out. Looks to shoot certainly the Galaxy and not Shine shooting from distance. They saw the gold come from about twenty five yards out. Another shot
from distance from Boyd deflection, It's gonna be a Galaxy corner kick. The Galaxy looking very fluid in their attack today, and that might be a product of desperation. But also the Sounders have to figure out how they're gonna play the remainder of this fifteen minutes left in this half. Are we gonna play almost man for man at times and see if we can catch our breath. But it's all about the Sounders retaining possession when they get the ball. You
have to make the Galaxy defend and defend well. So that means we got to switch side to side to side. We don't have to get this goal right now, and the Sounders look a little bit rushed in their build up going forward. Be a right foot out swinging corner kick Land's top of the
six yard boats flicked away by a tensio. Oh day again, same spot clips the ball, this time into the box versus shooting, and this boy who picks it up, it floats the back post read Baker wide and takes no chances, flicks the ball cornic kick Galaxy bair left hand side remains Galaxy one. Sound as nil. Continuous pressure from the Galaxy and these set pieces have become almost their bread and butter tonight. And but good things happen when
you shoot from distance right if you put the ball on frame. Most likely it's a deflection, it's a save, it's a perry, or someone gets a toe out and it's a deflection for a corner kick. Sustained possession from the Galaxy. Pooge with the corner kicked on the Galaxy left hand side, right footed in swing corner kick floats it high long to the back posts, easily collected by Steph Cleveland. He looks up, decked out in all blue
tonight, nothing available. The Sounders trying to build out the back suddenly what branch Metzer likes to do. But there's been a good balance this season, bradwith playing the ball long at times and then keeping the ball of possession building out the back. Yeah, I think the sound has got last year especially got stuck playing out of the back, felt like they had to play that
short ball. And there's nothing wrong with playing the ball long, but you must challenge for every ball and if you're gonna play short, try to play possession. You got to be cleaned with your passes as well. Galaxy pick up lose both from attack of Mariaga. Again, Pouge on the ball outside of the foot trains to find the ball to the fast side, but well cut out by Cody Baker. Lost by Tevez in the middle of the field
and it's Brugman now who picks up the possession. As a Sounders are chasing a one goal to nil on the right hand side, ball goes long over the top boy chasing down Cody Baker flicks it out, stays in bounds. Cody Baker comes away. It looks to play the ball with his left foot. Nothing on goes inside to Kedahrr. The twenty twenty three Lamar Hunt US Open Cup ramps up over the coming weeks as a trophy comes into view.

Learn all the exciting matchups as they're made on the br app or br Football's YouTube channel live at two pm easton It's Galaxy one Sounders nil or nine fifty KGr am from Dignity Health Sports Parking, Carson, California. As the Sounders now trying to maintain some possession but given away and it was a tackle by Keyda. Horror starts up. Referee said the ball was
played. It goes along from center all the way out to the right hand side, but trickles over the end line for a Galaxy goalkick. Brad Evans Sounders seeing the play, a little bit ball comes inside to Montero gets very fortunate with a tackle from I think it's yeah. Keito Horror comes in here. Lucky to get away with that one because I think that's a foul. Chichirito actually gets a touch on the ball. But as we build now, possession is going to be key. Ten minutes left and a half, let's
get sustained possession on the ball. Well. Watch tonight's match for free on the CBS Sports Go Latser Network, Watch on the CBS app, Pluto TV, on Paramount Plus, or at CBS Sports dot com. Visit US Open Cup dot com for the full schedule of matches and links to watch every game in the twenty twenty three Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. It's Galaxy one. Sounders nil. As we get into the thirty fourth minute here at Dignity Hell
supports parking cars in California, is just Galaxy. Pick on the ball left hand side, pruge again, time and space on the left hand side. He's found Joy floating to the left hand side, coming in on his right foots Oda place VOTs a vv along the six job I was collected well by Cleveland, but it's Pooge again dictating tempo brand And what it tells me is that the Galaxy of sniffed out what they think is a weakness on our right
hand side. If Peog is gonna keep coming to this left hand side, they're overloading with the left back vvs coming across, creating three V twos or sometimes in that in that instance a three V one against Reed Baker Whiting. So they're really pinpointing this this left hand side for the Galaxy. Our right hand side cleared by jay Neil. It was an entry pass from Tavers into Montero cut out by the tall, rangy figure of jay Len Neil started against
the Sounders back on April. First sloppy ball by Oriaga from the back is Galaxy pick off that long ranging pass and come away with again with Brugerman easy in possession, little reverse pass Sasoka picks it up off the toe of Pooge, and the sound has come again with Montero to double as playing more of an inside right position in this first half to the outside right corner of the box driven pass, and he was cut out well by the Galaxy. He
was off the toe of roth Rock coming on the back post. Corner kick sounds good play from Sisoko stepping in, winning the ball, and then it's the entry pass knocking out three or four Galaxy defenders and a good interchange. Good patience because I think Tevez was off sides initially, and he holds his run, holds his ball and we're able to get a good slip ball in a corner kick. Montera swings the ball in with his right foot, collected
easily inside the six yard bucks by Jonathan Bond. But this copyrighting audiocasts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduce, or read broadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. As the Galaxy pick it up on the right hand side, cuts into Boyd and those bright yellow cleats that goes back to the right hand side. Is the Galaxy maintaining good possession now with
Delgado Bruckman in support. Oh Day inside from his left back position, collects the ball now fifteen yards in from that left sideline, finds vv back to Oda and again push back to go a little bit of pressure from Attenia, but maybe what you said bred Attenia playing a little higher now and push. Yeah, you have to make Puge play facing his own goal the best you can, and when you sniff that out, you gotta put him under pressure because if he turns, he's just gonna spray a ball in and behind you.
And I think it's a product of Puge being right footed, and he favors this left hand side so that he can get his right foot on the ball and really swing in some switching balls, So it's not so much a product of Reid Baker more Puge playing on his more preferred side. Montera picks the ball up top of the books, still has possession, shrugs off. Kalighari tries to shoot. It was a knuckles shot frombout twenty yards, eventually
collected by Bond on the second attend, but good played by Montera. Shrugged off the pressure from Kalighari, found some space off the box. Good shot down down the throat of Jonathan Bond. Yeah, good pressure from the Sounders. This is where we have to win the ball. Twenty yards out. Freddy tries to play a slipped in ball and then just does really well and playing strong, finds himself a little bit of space, and we've seen Freddie
hit those before, especially against a Galaxy. I've actually been right behind him as he's laced one into the top corner. From there, I got no problem Sounders. You've got to take shots from distance. That allows the center backs they're gonna have to start stepping at some point. And then that's the one where Freddie gets his little slip pass and slips it in behind. So mixing up these attacks a couple of crosses so far for the Sounders shots from
distance corner kicks. We're not short on chances tonight. That's not the case. Well, certainly, I think we've seen some chances. The Sounders have had some chances inside the eighteen yard Bucks picked the balls up good in transition, build out the back as well as being positive as they try to find a way back from that early oh day goal. Galaxy one sound as nail as we approached the thirty ninth minute here Dignity Health Sports Park with a Galaxy
in possession. Busy night across the world of soccer in Bus and Canada tonight, number of games, some upsets, we talked about New England Revolution, how solid they've been in MLS losing to Pittsburgh yesterday. We'll get to some of those results a little bit later. But pooge again. Thirty yards from gold center. The puck flicks the bolt to the right hand side, Calgary inside from his right backspot, much more involved on the inside right positions.
He touches it little combination with Delgado, tries to go around Attensia. We'll cut out by Atensio like Bull goes to the right hand side and Boyd slips. Bull goes out for a Sounders throwing deep on that left hand side with Cody Baker. So what we're watching Attensio right now? Tell Doublelare that when the Galaxy have the ball on the right hand side, Doublelaire has to tuck in and become a third midfielder, leave the far guy. That's no problem
for us. If the ball gets played long sixty five yards, we can adjust and switch. But it's the interior ball that's finding success for the Galaxy right now, as the Sounders will becoming out numbered in the midfield, especially so Brad is double a is it a positional thing where he's inside too much?
Leaving that, I think he needs to come inside more. When the Galaxy have the ball on the right hand side, it allows it become a three v three in the midfield, and then if someone decides to switch the ball fifty yards across, no problem. I think he's starting too far outside.
Worried about the Galaxies left back. Well, it certainly poushes out some some joint up left hand side, and as poush sits a little bit more centered now as the Sound does have the ball with Montero with the ball, tries to cut the ball to the right hand side, turns away and it's
Ketaharra finds attential one touch passing to double a back to goal. Top of the box goes back to Kedahara out to Cody Baker played well in the game against Sport in Kansas City when he came on and really shut down Johnny Russell put in a good shift as a ball go top of the box, Keytahara left hand side, Roth Rock towards the end line, cuts it back with his left It read Baker white and trying to fight for the ball, shoves vv over free kick for the Galaxy, and that's a great passing sequence.
From the Sounders fifteen sixteen one touch passes and now it's just the final product. And we saw it early in the first half. Tevez gets in behind. Instead of going down making the keeper make a save low, he goes high to the near post and that one just a mistime cross from the left hand side. What great build up from the Sounders. Zariaga to Rothrock gets shrugged off the bull by Boyd Bull over the top to cheat Urrito. Steph
Cleveland reads to play well, miss controls it. Assistant referee puts his flag up near the whistle going the chee Cherrito hands on his head. Yellow cave for Cheatcherrito. Just one of those common sense yellow cards. It's like, why give it? It's silly by Cheecherrito. Doesn't need to do it. Chief gives me the yellow cuv chechi Rito asson no better. How long has
he played this game? And how often have we been told if you touched the ball after the whistle has been blown, you're gonna get You're gonna get a yellow card. And you know, if I'm the Sounders now, I'm gonna try and get in cheat Rito's head. I'm gonna do everything I can If I'm arioga every corner kick, I'm gonna be pinching him. I'm gonna
do the tiki tack fouls, whatever it takes. Bull Bull goes into the box for him, Red Baker wat He tries to play the ball into a tensio atensio top of the box, does a swivel volley shot, misses, it slips to Jonathan Bond. Does the Sounders have a higher level of confrontation now trying to find that equalizing goal before the first half runs out. If
you get into the forty second minute, Galaxy one sounds nil. The score update is presented by Provident Swedish. As the Bull's cleared by the sound is picked up by the Galaxy, it goes out to Boy tries to turn the corner and Cody Baker runs out of play. Well done from the Sounders and the Sounder set played well this first half. It's it's not a matter of
them playing poor soccer. We've seen a number of you know, ten twelve passing sequence, switching the ball side to side, very good chances on goal, a couple of set pieces as well. I think they'll be happy going in halftime. In the next couple of minutes and just clean up a few things here and there. And I think that they're on the doorstep in this second half because they're gonna have to push. We have to have a winner tonight. The Sounds are gonna have to push in the second half. As
Freddy Montera said, join the week, win or go home. As a Sound is now have some possession the attacking third of the field with Sasoko all the way out to read Baker Whitey close down by VV overlapping run by keita Haara. The Sound has maintained possession. He now receis on the right hand side, stretches controls it maintains possession given away and Puke flicks it over the
foot of Keita Haara comes away with the ball. The ball goes around the corner Brugman good play, goes past Koo, Passsoko into Chicherrio out to the left hand side, full top of the box as it comes into Push flicks around the cold from sidesteps to Soka, go to the top of the box. Cleared eventually by the Sounders, but the Galaxy come again with Oda left hand side thirty arts from the end line. No pressure on the ball looks up, finds VV out to the left hand side to Delgado, who shifted
from right to left. The midfield has maintained really good possession and tempo for the Galaxy as they seek out the second win of their season. The Galaxy missed the last round a round of sixty four. They were one of the teams that they gotta buy. The Sounders, of course, won five to four in that thrilling to quill a Starfire game, the winning goal coming from a Freddy Montera penalty. I think it's tenth US Open Cup goal, which and I we've batted this around, but puts him right at the very top
of US Open Cup goals. I wouldn't the Sounders love to see Freddy Montera scored at eleventh tonight? There's a Galaxy on the right hand side. But Brad, what Sprye Schmidtz are thinking as he goes into half time? Yeah? I think for Schmidtz in that locker room, it's guys keep continuing to do what we're doing as long as double are stays tucked in. And you
saw it on that last play. The Galaxy are building a very good passing sequence so far of two or three minutes of the Galaxy holding onto the ball, del Goto inside the box. Start Brad Dell got inside the bus comes away. There's read Baker whiting and to double that pressure from oh Day gives it away again to cheat Rito top of the bus. But it's Keta har It finds it. Brad Finisher thought. But you see the tiny instances where
it's Puge gets the ball. He completes every single pass right Keta Harra gets the ball. He's missing one of every three. And sometimes that can be a difference in a game like this, especially giving up a goal so so early on. But I think Schreetz will be saying clean it up a little bit, be patient, but you gotta have a killer instinct at some point.
Put your body on the line. Bull top of the buxs with the tensio tries to flick the ball find double are evenu in the eighteen yad Bucks tries to cut the bull back and then again pull quality and execution inside the box. It was a chance and there's the referees whistle at halftime. Here it was the Sounders who found themselves down early in the game from a oh Day twenty five yard rocket in the fourth minute, Brad, your final thoughts
going to halftime. Yeah, look, a good performance from the Sounders aside from the first three minutes of this game. A fantastic goal or worldly from the La Galaxy. I don't think they expected that at all. But this is moments where you have to be switched on, whether it's minute one or minute ninety plus. It's got to be a complete game to win, to win these Open Cup games. So a decent half from the Sounders, some good play, good chances you're looking for the second half. All right,
we'll take a short break, Jackson Andrew. We'll be back to break it all down at halftime here at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California with Galaxy one sound as nil. Now time for the Sounders FC halftime Show forty five minutes in the books at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. It's the US Open
Cup Round of thirty two. Seattle Sounders LA Galaxy and the Galaxy have a one nothing lead. It's a third minute goal by Ode in the long long distance and Andrews. We saw you at the start of this game. Jackson Felt and Andrew Harvey here for the halftime show Andrews. We saw this game. I mean, I think let's ignore the first three minutes for a moment. Sounders I thought a little bit sloppy, but played pretty well. But it was that moment in the third minute where the Galaxy earned a corner.
Ricky Pouge walks through Earns the corner and then it's at a from about thirty five yards out, beating half in Cleveland. What an amazing goal that was in the third minute that got the Galaxy their lone goal. Yeah, no, it's it's a sensational strike and you can see right it's sort of greenlit the Galaxy because they've been shooting from downtown. It feels like, you know, ninety percent of their shots have come from thirty yards or further out.
It's got to be frustrating, I think for Seattle Jackson, right, they came in, you know, they wanted to start well and instead they're back on their back feet at the start, and I think that kind of rattled them a little bit. They played their way into the half, but as you heard Brad talking about during the first half, there's just some of the passes are a little bit off, some of the touches a little too heavy, and I think it's having an effect. And it's not that they're They're
very far off. It's not that the Sounders are getting dominated right now. I mean, this is a one nothing game and it should be noted by the way that Nicholas Leadero Jual Paula are on Seattle's bench and this is hey one goal game. That could change very quickly with those two influences. But I think you're absolutely right in the sense that after La scores in the prematch show, we said, you know, everybody has a plan until they get
punched in the face, right La Galax. He punched Seattle in the face. But it's how Seattle responded. They responded well and Ethan double are working down that right side, that combination of read and Ethan that's working for the Sounders. It's just getting that final ball in the box Freddy Montera with a great chance. The Sounders are close. It just needs that little extra bit of quality. Yeah, Sounders have had three fantastic chances up there in the
attacking end. The shot from Montero clear off the line Tevez is header, and then that through ball from Montero to Tevez that was well defended, right, he was forced out wide into a low angle shot. But you know, there's a very there's a very plausible reality where Sounders are leading this to one or three one at the break. It's just a matter Jackson, of
can they find that last little bit of quality. Can some of these young guys have the presence of mind to take a breath before they crack that shot. I get it, everyone wants to score in the big time game against a big time rival, but you just have to have that moment, settle yourself and make sure you're gonna put it past the keeper. That's exactly right. And the ironic part is the fact that the best Sounders chance, which came in the tenth minute, where is double air to Montero. He had
probably about two yards of space inside the six yard box. Nobody was next to him. Montera hesitates for just a moment, eventually takes the shot, which is which is defended off the line by La. It's the veteran in that moment who maybe you know, maybe if that's Tevez with that ball, maybe it is kind of the I'm gonna shoot her right now. But Montero maybe trying to be a little bit too clever with that, and ultimately that
does not go in. Also Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Jackson Felt and Andrew Harvey here with the halftime show. And Andrew Sounders are in this game. We were talking, I mean like you said it in the
previous segment a couple moments go to Seattle's way. They're leading this game two to one. There's a universe where that exists right now. So with that said, because they are in this game, knowing you have a good bench, I'm two separate questions here. Knowing that Jual Paulo did not play on Sunday against Kansas City, and knowing that Brian Schmitzer probably wants to use him heavily against Houston this Saturday, how early can you bring on a Joel Polo?
And then for Nicholas Ladero, who did play all of the Sporting Kansas City game, who will factor for at least most of the Houston game, how early can you bring on Nicholas Ladero? Great question, Jackson, I think in my mind right and it all comes down to what's the medical staff telling you about how ready is Joel Polo and is he good to go and is he going to have the legs? Because right it's a busy week. Next week you have Austin on the midweek back at home after you're down with
Houston. That said, you need to find a way to take poage out of this game. And in my mind, the best way to do that is to bring on a guy who should have been the MVP a couple of years ago, in Joel Polo, and just tell him to go out there and legitimately, since you have so many young guys who should have the legs to go one hundred and twenty, if it comes to that, you might just go to go to Joel Polo and go. I just need you to be on the pitch until Pooge subs off. If you can go shut him
down for that length of time, job done. As far as Ladera is involved, I don't think we'll see him till eighty I mean, if the match is level, then we might not see him until extra time because realistically, right now, I don't think Lodaro's skill set is something to the Sounders need to add up front. They're finding spaces and channels and making these overlapping runs and playing the ball in behind. They're just not finishing their chances.
Yeah, that's exactly right. I mean, Dylan Tevez has had a good game. The combination of Reed Baker widing and Dylan Tebz and Ethan Doubler's working on that right side. So if Nico can add that later. Yes, you're absolutely right on Joel Polo. Bring him in shut where he pooshed down and give yourself a better chance in that midfield to get going and get that equalizer. It's one nothing La Galaxy over your Seattle Sounders. We will have

Welcome back to Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, where the Galaxy lead and this open cut matchup one Goalton Hill against your Sounders. As a Galaxy, get the second half
going as they shoot from left to right. Deck tout and all the all white that traditional white shirts, white shorts, and white socks. The Sounders shooting from right to left in the Bruce Lee kit of red shirts, black socks and black socks, black shorts and black socks. We'll get to the lineups in one second. But bread, what's Brian Schmitz had been saying to his team at half time. Yeah, I think a little bit different than
the Kansas City game. I think that the Sounders have created enough chances to be up two or three goals in this game. We just saw the highlights, high quality chances from the Sounders. Keep doing what you're doing. I don't think it's a matter of defending poorly now, it's just the high quality and that little final touch in the final third, so they'll push. I
don't expect any defensive subs. I don't see a job Pollo coming in, but you might see a Nico Ladio appearance for twenty twenty five minutes or biogas him coming in as an attacking start. But but Schmitz's comments, I think, just keep doing what you're doing. Boys. Yeah, it feels like I may everyone steps it up five ten percent. As the bull goes inside the box where sister referees, flag goes up. But it's a great ball in between Jay Lennel and out Day. It was Tevis who slashed him behind,
but probably halfway out off side. And again Tevis finds himself in a great position here. Freddy Montere picks up all the ball again in a good spot Tevis just an inch off side again straight at the goalkeeper. If he is on side, it's a good keeper save low and hard to the keeper's right. Make him make a save with his feet well. As you said, a couple of good chances of the sound is the first off thing.
As you mentioned, Branchis will be happy with the opportunities, and that's why execution is the Galaxy trying to build out the back higher pressed by the Sound is pick it off better by this sounds you see there the sound is pressing high and double Laire sitting almost as a six, allowing a tensil to press
high with Keitahara Doublare sitting on puge. So I think you'll see that here in the second half, Freddy Montero strikes in twenty yards blocked by jayla'neil has cleared it eventually by the Galaxy as it rolls out on the right hand side, where read Baker Whiting will pick up the ball for a Sounders throw. Good start for the Sounders here, a couple of chances putting the Galaxy under
pressure, setting the temple here for the second half. Now we keep the ball and let's move them tactically and see what we can create from that. Cody Baker solid on the left hand side as Oriaga gets past some pressure from Chicherido and comes away the ball. Good one touch pass from a tentio out to read Baker Whiting who drops the ball back to Sosoka. Good confident possession now by the Sounders as they shift it to the right hand side. Double
air flicks around the corner, well defended by the Galaxy. Little back heeled, good press by double air and it's the Galaxy come away with it. Pooge little flick with earth pass down the left hand side. Is the Galaxy now have space and time left corner of the box inside the eighteen, no real pressure flicks in it just wide. It was a chance on there Galaxy left hand side. They came into the top of the box and it was a curled shot that missed the left hand posts of Steph Cleveland's goal by just
a mere inches. The Sounders get caught high here in the Galaxy with one two touches and they spring a hundred yards up the field and he goes for goal as he should inside the box, and that's a close chance for the Galaxy. There as a Sounders you see Ariaga screaming at everyone in front of him. Where were you? They got left with a four v three there three minutes into this second half, it was vv with a shot changes Cleets. It looks like a halftime from bright Yellow, too blue. As the
Sounders now put some higher press on the Galaxy back line. Cassaris, it's been solid so far. Starter again back in April agates the Sounders, the thirty five year old veteran from Uruguay. As a ball goes from center from Boyd to left to Pouge. That's v pressed by Reed Baker Whiting as it comes towards the end like cuts the bull back. It was a good quick run by ol Day in behind cleects the bull, but heavy touch goes to
Steph Cleveland. And the second half is gonna be back and forth as the Sounders have to push forward and you're seeing this big field, You're gonna see tired legs here. Whenever I played here, it was always the start of the second half where I lost my breath and it took me about ten or fifteen minutes to get into the game. But it's an onus on all the Sounders now to control the tempo. We always stop first five minutes. Okay, if we're gonna come out hard, we're gonna go, then we gotta
keep possession. Otherwise we're gonna run ourselves ragged on this massive field. As you said, you can't go to one hundred miles and now the whole game, right, you're gonna pick and choose your moments to go. As a bull trick us out of bounds, it's gonna be a Galaxy throwing on that left hand side just inside sound is territory as the Galaxy now maintain possession on that back line. But let's give you that lineup for the Sounders coming out
in the second half. No changes from the starting lineup, No changes for Branch, Schmetza, Cleveland and goal. And we'll get to that in just a second. As the Sounders win the ball off Pouge's toe, come away with it cleared by Cassaras no messing around as Ariaga tries to challenge cheat Urrito Chiato using his experience and his strengthen his body and a free kick for the Galaxy thirty yards from the Sounders goal. Cheat Urrito does really well here in
a physical battle with Ariaga. No one wins the first one, and Ariaga tries to come over the top. But chiech Urrito's a big body, and he does so well in holding off and just keeping the ball in front of him. And then as soon as he feels pressure and he's got the advantage, he's just gonna keel over a Galaxy in good position here with a free kick. Just a dense body knows how to use it, knows how to
kind of find his spot. Solid foundation, such experience, and we'd mentioned eighteen goals last year, twenty one goals and four assists in thirty five games at Dignity out Sports part for Chicherido certainly the vocal lead of this team.
As he wins a free kick twenty five yards center the goal, the sound is holding their position top of the eighteen yard bucks and the Galaxy now with Pooge who takes four steps back and tries to line this ball up and it's a shot over the top, clips by Brugman eventually, who came out of the picture, took a shot. The flakes off a sound as wall gonna be a Galaxy corner kick their left hand side sound as wall does his job.
Thirty yards out. Delgado goes for the knuckler up and over the wall to try to get it up and down, and the wall does his job, stands strong. Give up a corner kick, no problem. It's gonna be Brugman on the Galaxy left hand side with his right foot in swinging corner kick. As he sets the ball, takes a couple of steps back as a sound all men inside the box. Ball comes in float all the way
across. Cleveland just flaps at it for a split second, manager to get as small touch as it goes to the opposite side over the end line for another Galaxy corner kick. Did you see the replay? It was along board to the far post and Cleveland just gets enough of it to take it off the head of Cassaras, who was coming right behind him. There's gonna be a Galaxy corner kick on their right hand side. It's gonna be VV.
The super draft pick from twenty twenty three kills the ball in headed clear, finds Tever's top left corner of the box, clips it around the corner with his outside of his right foot, and VV plays the ball back all the way back to Jonathan Bond in the Galaxy goal. So let's get to that. Sounders line up Cleveland and goaler back four of Baker, Whitings, Asoka, Oriaga and Cody Baker defensive midfield players A Tensei on Keitahara and attacking three.
A double air tevers Roth Rock and the Freddy Montera up front as rothlock down the left hand side, tries to clip alongside the six jarb bucks cleared by the Galaxy in Brugman to the Sounds left hand side one well by Baker and the Sound has come up to the second ball Atensio tevis back to Baker, who has been solid so far on that left back spot. Reverse pass
to Tensio left corner of the box finds double ironside the box. Jay Lenneil comes across sound as corner kick remains Galaxy one sound as nil the Youngsters with some good interchange here on the left hand side, force to turnover from the Galaxy and good one touch passing. What I like about Baker on the left hand side, he seems to not make the wrong pass and he just keeps it very simple and he's the one that starts that little interchange Atensio does a
good job, swings in a good ball Sounder's quarter kick. Montero is short to Baker, clips them with his right foot, bounces around the chen Yo Bucks eventually cleared by the Galaxy and it's Cheecherrito again uses his experience. He's not gonna beat Baker in a in a foot race, gets his body across Baker's path, falls down, yellow card Baker free kick Galaxy. Cheecherrito knows he doesn't have the speed. The two Sounders, one center back and obviously
Baker charging back as a left back. And I'm not sure it's I mean, maybe it's I think it's just a foul. It's not really yell. He doesn't pull on the jersey, gets a shoulder stuck in. Teacher Rito makes a meal of it, but that's why he's experienced. He wins a free kick for his team, and Ali wins possession for his team in the Sounders half. It was almost like the referee he knew what was coming.
His yellow cutters always have his pocket before the foul has even made. So he comes to the Sounds defending inside there half of the field, pressed by Montero, the Galaxy a possession of the ball on their left hand side with Alday comes back to Jay Lennil to Cassara's deep in their half of the field.
Now as a Sounder is pressed a little bit higher with Baker tight to Kalighari, who's been somewhat quiet on that right hand side in the first half, but just to get going and the Sounder is eventually clear it and get some pressure from Galaxy, but reed Baker Whiting comes away that ball back to Steph Cleveland. Good from the Sounders hears as a Galaxy look to have a strong attack going forward with numbers read. Baker does just enough to get himself
out of pressure. Reset with Stephen Cleveland and off go the Sounders. Well, it's board for the Galaxy picks it up the middle of the field. It's Brougram and switch of play all the way across goes out at bounds. watch every game in the twenty twenty three Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. It's Galaxy won sound as nil here at Dignity Hill Sports Park as Cheacherida nudges himself forward free kick on the Sounders. It was a Tensio slid across the cheacher Rido using his strong upper body. For this time it's going to go against cheacheridown Sounders free kick and they get the game going quickly. Read Baker whiting inside to Kedahara looking up, trying to find options. TeVeS come short,
Kedahara solid so far in the center of the park alongside the Tensio. Good opportunity to test himself against a very strong Galaxy lineup. As the ball gets flicked by Delgado to Cheatio, good combination and the Sounds half of the field overlapping run by Boyd goes inside to cheat Erido tries to find vv who came inside, and the ball trickles over the end line. But let's get you the starting lineup for the Galaxy in the second half. No changes for the
Galaxy. Johnathon bonding goal a back for of Kalighari, Casus Neil and Ode the goal scorer in the fourth minute, del Gado, Brugman and Boyd puge and then cheaturido and vv up top as a sound as play long cushion headed by Calaghari back to Bond, simple and clean as Bond collects it with some
pressure from TeVeS. The second half, I think you've seen puge without too much time on the ball, so the sounder seemed to figure it out what they're gonna do in this second half, and I think it's a matter of double laire just tucking inside as Puch was finding soul much so much success on the sounder's right hand side early, especially throughout that first half. Double that twenty five yards finds Montero a little cutball to Read Baker Whiting right corner of
the box. Pressure from Vivey goes to the end line, clips it up to the back post and he's ahead. It was a chance by roth Rock middle of the six yard boxing was a bundled header in the end of the day, easy for Bond to collect, but again he was good pressure from the sound to start on the right hand side, good cross delivery from Baker
Whiting. It was roth Rock. It couldn't get a strong headed evenution easy say by Jonathan Bund A good move from Read Baker riding on the right hand side, a little shimmy shake and he gets in a good ball just over Tevez and just and I think Freddie Montero asked if it was it was a handball by a Galaxy player. There, roth Rock slides, wins the ball sounds again, good press within the ball on the right hand side, attend
to it, takes a shot, goes wide. He had a free player on the Ryan's side, decided to get his head down, took the shot. It goes wide. Galaxy goald kick remains one thil Galaxy, but good pressure from the Sounders again getting possession in the attacking half, and I think Atensio all just in front of him, not able to play that ball wide and if it's not, if it doesn't happen in the first second, it's not going to come off. So I like that he didn't risk the pass,
otherwise it would have been a turnover. And the Galaxy are off to the races. So go ahead, have a go. We see here a good hold up play from Montero there it needs to be played instead, he takes a touch inside off balance and the shot was always going wide. It's a good win by roth Rock. Initially high up the sounds offensive half of the field as a Galaxy now entry passed into Chicherio fighting jos Link Attensio and at Sisoko and again it gets a free kick. Uses experience well, it
feels like he's getting more match fit. He was out in the beginning part of the season, took a little while to get back in but certainly looks fight up to try and protect this lead for the Galaxies. They looked for their second win of the season, one win in MLS sofar they got up by in the first in the round of sixty four. This is the first
game in Open Cup. The sound of second game as the Galaxy have it flick, who's he rash challenge from ariagars he goes Odie went down, nothing given by the referee and Casseras clects the ball and plays it all the way back to joonthan Bond and the Galaxy goal. Brad brash challenge by Oriaga. Yeah it was Ariaga Assoko there and he's got to be careful as chiecher Rido is going to look for anything. Cheecher Rido has been versty one of foul.
Anyone's a foul and right near midline and then there's a touch inside of his own box, and I think the Sounders are lucky to come away with not giving up a penalty there. Galaxy maintains some decent possession there. Half the field of Sounders are playing a little higher press. Now try to get themselves back in this game. Find this equalizer and as we discuss, Brian will be somewhat pleased with the chances created so far. You need that final
execution in the final third. As Pooge, who's on the ball right now now I've been a little quiet to the second half, was to get into the sixtieth minute. Galaxy won Sound as nil as Kalaghari right corner of the box plays the ball inside to Boy top of the box, flick to the bat post well defended by Read Baker Whiting, who finds it to dopple air flicks around the corner, gets past Oda, opens up his legs to Montero to Read Baker Whiting middle of the field. Now send a circle as the
sound has maintained some possession. Now in the Galaxy half of the field, looking for that opening goal with double air to Read Baker Whiting and the tensio to Sosoko. Taking their time. Good patient build up by the Sounders. Well done by the Sounders here, a good string of fifteen twenty passes, patients waiting for the game to open up. And if I'm the Sounders, i know one player that does not want to defend for the Galaxy, and
that's Puge. So I'm trying to find the overload wherever Puge is on the field. I'm gonna try and overload wherever he is. But the Sounders lose possession here with Delgada to Pouge, you'd stayed a little higher. Wriggles past Atensio go to the right hand side to Boyd to Poosh top of the box. A little reverse pass tries to find Cheecherrito Cheacherido not too impressed by that pass, but it's a good reverse pass by Poosh. The two experienced players
were all the same wavelength. What it feels like pooshe's experienced even though he's what twenty three years old coming out from Barcelona, had a great start with MLS career so far, came in mid twenty twenty two. Somewhat was surprised. I think getting him in the league. You just see the difference in quality especially in that first sounds. The ability to shake out of tight positions
and then make the right pass more times than not. Yeah, he's going to try and find the killer pass sometimes, but he actually keeps it very very simple, and he'll drop fifteen sixteen, twenty yards behind the center line to pick up the ball, and he saw that on the previous occasion. Then he springs a fifty yard ball long, and all of a sudden, the Galaxy are on the attack. Well, the sound is with Montera free kick thirty five yards from the end line, right channel read Baker Whiting and
support to Montera's right ten yards in front of the single man wall. Ball comes in long and high, easy for Bond as he collects it. Disappointing from Montero, so good usually with that delivery ball high and long, he's a collected by Jonathan Bond. Yeah. The Galaxy, obviously you can see they're preserving this leads all eleven players behind the ball, one in front of in front of the free kick. Everyone else lined up on the eighteen.
It's going to be difficult for the Sounders to score in that position unless they send everybody. Everybody forward, but the Sounders it doesn't matter if the delivery's not there at the end of the day. Good pressure by roth Rock, who gets the start tonight after his goal in the game against San Diego just
a few minutes after he came on as a sub. It was great finish came in on his right foot, fouled by roth Rock as he puts pressure on Kalaghari, who has not been marauding forward as much as he did in that first game back in early April. The Sounders came away with a grind out win. Some substitutions for Brian Schmidtzer In a sixty third minute Susa comes on for Cody Baker. Tevez comes on and we'll just get a spot for that thing is. Joe Gholson comes on the field to be the big number
nine up front. Montera likely drops into a number ten. We'll see if Brian Schmizer tweaks to formation as these stubs come on. It looks like Suso will come to the left back and push Baker a little bit higher up the field, let him play as a more attacking player. He might find more success there as he pushes up the field and the big body up top. As a number nine, you might even see the Sounders play two up top at times, so susan number thirty one playing on the left hand side.
It was actually Cody Baker went off, I'm looking at roth Rock has still on the field on the left hand side. Your Ghlson plays up front, big strong from number nine. As the Sounds have a free kick twenty five yards from the endline, left channel, this time just in front of the bench. As the ball swings in right foot again easily collected by Jonathan Bond
overplayed by Montero. One characteristic of his quality the second free kick, Montero's it's just too lofted of a ball for a big goalkeeper to come out. Anything within twelve yards is going to be his to take all day long. Galaxy building out from the back now, as the Sounders have a line of confrontation twenty five yards from the goal, as Jaylen Neil top of his box
connects with Cassara's out to Kalighari in front of the Sounds bench. The ball goes long into the channel, Chichardo challenging Oriaga, Oria goes down, nothing given by the referee. Ariaga is looking for the push, nothing given as Boyd turns plays it back to Kalighari right hand side channel and for the Galaxy, now it's about good possession. As they played the bull down the right hand side, challenged by Sue's a good defending by the young man as the
bull rolls out for a corner kick for the Galaxy. The Galax will be a no rush here in this sixty fifth minute. Now it's about controlling tempo, keeping the ball and surprise, Hugh hasn't hasn't found more of the ball at this point in this game. But he's a player that could take over at any minute. And the Galaxy will be happy to play for corner kicks, play for set pieces, making sure that they put the Sounders center backs
under continuous pressure and make them try to make the game. Dejan jovialitch now on the field, we'll trying to see the substituit was. But the ball goes in. It's a goal. It was a corner kick get bounced through the first man at the penalty spot. It was a left footage strike past Steph Cleveland and that puts the Galaxy two nil up on the night. And he said, mountain to climb now for the sound as the ball swung in. Wasn't he in? A good ball? But sometimes all you need is
a near post run. And I don't know if it's a Galaxy player that gets a touch or a Sounders player. It's an in swinging corner kick, a little touch maybe not, and we just lose our mark. And that's a left footed finish. It was Memo Rodriguez fresh onto the field. That could have been his very first touch with his left foot right in the middle of the goal twelve yards out angled his body well, he was a well
guided shot past Steph Cleveland. And now the Sounders I gonna have to find themselves in as same deficit as they found themselves on Saturday against Sporting KC. It's Galaxy two sound as nil. Once again, the Sounders find themselves sleeping on set pieces Number one. You must stay with your mark. Galaxy can wear with it again, but the sound is clear it The Galaxy maintain possession with O Day on the left hand side, pressure by the Sounders as they
try and pick the ball from the right hand side. Now they have to find a way back into this game. Leave it double. That leaves it for Read Baker Whiting on the right hand side plays the ball down the line, connected pass it again a little bit sloppy, eventually finds itself to the right and side with double that goes by towards the end line. Right hand channel, good cross into the back of the boxes the head as a goal.
He's roth Rock. He was a wonderful cross by double air on the right hand side, floated to the back post, and he was a well directed header by Paul roth Rock into the bottom left corner of the goal. And just what the Sounds needed get back into this game. It's Galaxy two sound as one in double air with a fantastic move here our number nine holds it up and a double aare just a little shimmy shake LEAs a Galaxy defender on the floor. Sounders get three runners in the box, one at the
near post, one on the six and the back post coming in. Freddie does everything he can to throw off the right back and roth Rock comes in with a towering header straight to the ground keeper. No chance. Two goals in two US Open Cup games for Paul roth Rock. As the ball goes over the top for Jovlich who cuts the bull back. But the sound hasn't come away that now the Sounders have something to fight for now they have a
chance to get back into this game as they half the deficit. As a ball bounced around top of the box, Double that cushioned head of it given away comes out to the right inside to Caligari inside the box drives it low and hard and it evades the right posts of Steph Cleveland's goal, rolls out for a Sounder's goal. Cake, Oh, this has got a little bit of everything right now. These last twenty minutes are going to be a fantastic
match. And the Sounders again under the gun. We try to clear the ball a little too cute from double laire Jovelich ends up with the ball and that's an enticing ball right across the face of Steph and Cleveland's goal. Sisoko does well to see it out. Sound is building out in the back as a galaxy now to feel those nerves, try to find that second win of the season. Made a couple of changes as the sound just did. And for the Galaxy he was Memo Rodriguez who scored the second goal fresh off the
bench. But for the Sounders a response with the goal from Paul roth Rock aheader from the bat post well finished as he clicks the ball top of the box. Jay Lenniel comes in, clears the ball, attent your fights with Jovilch, ball goes down the line. Jovilch has it back to goal. Pressure from the sound is able to turn and play and he finds the ball across the halfway line, challenged by two Sounders players, but shifts the ball from center to left. As Ode does no overlapping run. It comes inside
to poosh and Delgado to poosh. Switch the ball from center to right to board right hand side, challenged by Susa. As the ball comes to the center to del Gada flicks the ball over the top. Calgary isn't able to reach it. It rolls out for a Sounders goal. Kick remains Galaxy two Sounders one. In the seventeenth minute. Good move for the Galaxy there from left to right, right to left and back again and just slightly misfast from
Delgado trying to scoop the ball over the top. Step and Cleveland comfortable with that one and the Sounders are gonna have to push here, but they still have to be patient. So you're seeing this three back for the Sounders, sending read high up the field a little bit more direct, so fans dive deeper into the thrills and drama of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup joined the conversation on Twitter and Instagram at Open Cup and on Facebook at Official Dash Open
Dash Cup. As a galaxy with pooshe finds the anti passengs Joval. It switches from center to write a little bit easy for the galaxy right now as they build up possession top of the box, Poosh tries to find the chance to kill it easily collected by Steph Cleveland. It was a chance from Pooge. It was a ball to the outside to Boyd. He found the ball to Poosh top of the box trying to kill the ball into the corner,
found itself right into the arms of Steph Cleveland. Pooge finding a little bit more success in time on the ball and sounders have to be well aware. I think Doublelaire did a very good job in the first fifteen sixteen minutes of this half to take Puge out of the game. I think those legs are a little bit tired after that run for and that amazing cross and assists from him and Freddy Montero doing a good job to hold that ball just like Chicharrito
did. Or the Galaxy got a savvy player of our own. Sub Yeah, substitute for the La Galaxy in the seventy first minute. Here it's Raheem Edwards, who started for the Sounders, started for the Galaxy against the Sounders, comes on as a sub. Tries to solidify the lead here for the Galaxy ty The board goes off, so more of a defensive minded player for
an offensivety minded players. The ball goes into Bulgolfsson back to goal left channel pressure from Jaylennel, but turns roll, holds the ball up, clips off the toe of Kalighari, goes out for a Sounders throwing roth Rock tries to get the ball going quickly goes to Soda Keitahara, but Bulgolfsson wins the ball the Sousa good Sounders pressure, good Sounders possession. Ball goes down the line pressure from Kedahara, but del Gada uses all experience shepherds it out of play.
Is going to be a Galaxy goal kit remains Galaxy too, sound as one bred Evans Sounders with some sustained possession on the side. You see Freddie Montera clap in his hands. You haven't seen the pace drop from the Sounders, which is key this last eighteen minutes. Every thrown is going to have to go quick. Your goal sins in there to stretch the defense and all sides on a throne, so you'll see him just like he did there, stretch the defense, hold that ball up. I think the Sounders are a
little bit unlucky not to come out with something there. Good press by the sound as double wins it on the right hand side. Similar position is his cross for the goal. Jay Lennio clears it this time and the Galaxy come away that. Some time and space the middle of the field. Pooge comes from left to right. We've seen that many times in the first off, not so much in the second half. A bit of space and time finds
where he met Whit's on the right hand side, challenged by Susa. Well done by the young man, stands him up well, good one v one fending wins the ball, comes away that and plays aboard to Bogolfsson gets pressured by Cassaris and the Galaxy come away with it. That tackle from Susa is a top quality tackle. He's isolated. Pug does a great job stretching across the field, finding Edwards on this right hand side, and that's a one
v one tackle in open space against a very fast and veteran player. Poush with Delgado to Rahem Edwards Caligara in the outside right and support collects it near side the right towards the end line, Susa about five yards away. Pressure with roth Rock goes back to del Gada. Galaxy now maintaining some possession.
As the Sounders chase this equalizing goal middle to left to Alday out to the left hand side to Rodriguez, challenged by Reed Baker, Whiting cuts the ball top corner of the box comes to pooge pressure from the Sounders as the Sounders hold their line top of the box and the Gay try to prod and pry and try to find the opening. As the ball comes across center to right Kalighari right corner of the eighteen yard bucks towards the end line, flicked by
Sosoko. It was a foul it looked like from Joevilich, but good defending by Szoko who's the top of the six yard bucks. He flicks it out and the sound has come away. That now ball over the top John the Bond reads it, knocks it bounce, takes no chances throwing for the sound of good pressure from the La Galaxy once again. Puge finding that ball and
he's finding this little pockets of space. Now I think it's a Sounders midfielders get just a little bit tired and this is a good ball from the Galaxy swung across, but Sosoko does just enough to get almost his back on it. Rebaker clears, Freddy does a good job holding the ball and forces Bond to come out lew the ball out for a throwing but the Sounders now finding
a little bit more success in maintaining possession in the Galaxy's half. The twenty twenty three Lamar Hunt US Open Cup ramps up over the coming weeks as a trophy comes into viewers, double comes into the box. B your golfson slips to Jonathan Bond, But tune into Bleacher Report platforms tomorrow. Tonight's when it

Learn all the exciting matchups as they are made on the br app or b Football's YouTube channel live at two pm easton as the Sounders now top left corner of the box with Montero. Roth Rock comes in on his right foot, clips towards the bat post cleared by Oda, and Himadas comes and flicks it around the corner to Jovelts
try to backheal it good pressure from Sosoka. The Sounders come away with it left hand side roth Rock in front of the Sounders bench as they try to build up an attack, try to find that equalizing goal as they trail here,
two goals to one against the Galaxy. As the ball goes long and high from Montero again easily collected by Jonathan Bond, and it's that final delivering execution right now for the Sounders as we tick down into the seventy sixth minute, Galaxy two Sounders one Sounders looking to push forward here, and I think Freddy Montero gets a little bit unlucky there at deflection on that ball, But some good sequences from the Sounders, a couple swung in balls from the right
hand side. Doubolaire again doing a good job of getting down that right flank. Just when I think he's gonna get tired, he keeps pushing. High quality play tonight from Dobbolaire, really impressed defensively and now offensively in this second half and a couple of good alls from the left hand side too, good recovery from Sosa. They get a little bit fortunate. Sounders make a couple
of subs here well. Jao Paolo comes on the field for Soda Kedahara and Dobbolare will get replaced by Georgie Manongu, who makes his debut for the sound Is tonight. Congratulations to the young man. I've seen him in practice as you have. Braddy's as a firecracker, got tons of energy and certainly Sounds will look to see that. Tonight. I brought my high school team out to watch a Sounders practice and what blows my mind is these guys are the
same age as the kids that I'm coaching. So to see these guys in a in a first team training and say these are your peers and to watch them their minds are They were like who is this guy? And so he's impressed not just the Sounder staff and the players, but also those watching at practice day in day out. A special player tonight, Excited for him to get on the pitch. Here's a type of player you'd love to see right who's got genuine enthusiasm, so excited to be out there, and it's what
the game's all about. He's got a little something special too. You got something to prove tonight, and with fifteen minutes left, he should be allowed to push and I think you might see the Sounders go three five two here, maybe push Reid Baker a little bit higher. Well, Georgie manoon Go is gonna go from to the left hand side and roth Rock will slide across to the right as Delgado limps off the field. It's a slight delay in play right now. There'll be some minutes added at the end of the game.
But as the Galaxy make their sos with a defensive moves like where he met Woods for Tyler Boyd, the sound isn't making their offensive moves. Yeah, you bring on Jalpolo though, he's gonna settle the game, and I think the reason for bringing JP on. He's going to be able to find that switching ball as a Sounders go forward, so we're gonna put them under
pressure. I think the Galaxy are still going to press a little bit and as things open up, JP is going to be responsible for finding those pockets and getting these youngsters on the ball late in the second half, pressure from the sounders as raheam Edwards and ball gets flicked around the right hand side and it's del Gardo down the right hand side for callaghari good defending by Ariaga comes across steps in. It's going to be a throwing about fifteen yards from the
corner flag for the La Galaxy on their right hand side. It's Galaxy two, sounders one. As we get into the seventy ninth minute here at Dignity Health Supports parking cars in California US Open Cup, round of thirty two. As the Galaxy look to make a couple more changes. As they hold up the throw on their right hand side, the subs back off. It's him
Edwards in the box, comes out to Delgard. It flicks it to the middle of the box controlled by the Galaxy and Rodriguez and blocked well by Sousa and it's a Galaxy throne on their right hand side, ten yards from the corner flag. This time. To see that replay with ball coming the box from Delgard, it was a chance to strike it potentially first time took a touch did Rodriguez and gets blocked by the sounders where he met was on their
right inside ten yards from the corner. Flag flicked around the corner and cleared eventually and where he met with sticks a foot in there foul on the Sounders. Yellow card for Edwards. It's gonna be sound as free kick Galaxy was some good possession here. The Sounders have to be careful as we send numbers forward. It's going to be key that we don't get into a battle in the back. As a center back on this field late in a game, you know that we're going to have to push forward. Do you have to
keep your shape and be tactically aware. You gotta keep at least one at all times, JP or a Tensio have to stay with us. And on that swung in ball, a little bit of last ditch defending from Ariaga and then a block shot low which looked like it may have been going in from Ssoko there. And now they'll bring on two defensive minding players experienced one in Uri Rossel's just gonna sit. He's the general now as a number six as
he comes on the field, and Daniel Agia from Mark Delgado. Let's see what they The sub player coming off for Uri Rossell was as a Galaxy get a free kick on their left tense side. But as Greg Vanny looks for that second win on the season, he's gonna try and shut up shop. The sound Is have just serve ten minutes to get that equalizing goal. And I think for the Galaxy, now there's still ten minutes left. You're not gonna just dump the ball into the corner put your foot on it in time
waste. You still have game to play, So the Sounders have to be aware that they still got opportunities to get forward. As a Galaxy are going to look to keep the ball slow, the tempo down. Now it's up to the Sounders to really up the pressure. And I think that's what these subs were for for the Sounders now, because they're gonna have to attack every single ball. You're gonna see the ball go back to the keepers. He's gonna put his foot on it. You need fresh legs in there now,
and you gotta give everything you have. You gotta push for a second goal. Well for the Galaxy right now, as you mentioned, it's time management. As the ball goes into Jovelich shifts the ball well read by read bake Ker Whiting Errant passed from Jovelich. It's been good so far this year, certainly a good twenty twenty two. As the bull gets to read back to
read Baker Whiting. Is the Sounders get out of trouble. Well, rudiad Baker Whiting and flicks it over the top and he's Buelgolfson inside the box to his right foot, well defended by Cassaras. Foul given on bul Golfson. He trying to do a drop of his shoulders his right hand side, but Cassaras read it knocks the ball out of bounce free kick to the galaxy. Not sure what happened there. We had the corner kick one and looks like he left a legout and the Sounders give up a good opportunity on a corner
kick here, a little unnecessary foot left out there from Borgolfsson. But the Sounders do a good job again on this right hand side, reed Baker beating a couple of guys. Oh, he just barrels over him there. Maybe one v one twinkle toes is not what Buell Gelfson's game's all about. But well, I mean we'll find out. You might. He might find himself with a little tap in here late into the game, but right now he seems to be that big body up top that's just gonna barrel over guys.
Well, Nicoladero coming on the field here in the eighty third minute to take the place of Paul Rothtruck. A bit of a bit of a surprise here to see Nico come on the pitch this late in the game. But there may have been a case of him saying, Hey, I'm going on the field and I'm gonna make a difference here. He's got ten minutes to delay it on the line, but you gotta think this game goes into overtime, he's gonna have extra minutes on his legs as well. Travel to Houston tomorrow.
It shows you, It shows you how important this is to the Sounders organization. These Open Cup games. We're not going to leave anything. It's a chance here. Well, the last good run for the Sounders was back in twenty sixteen when they actually lost four goals to two against the Galaxy in the quarterfinals. They're trying to turn that one over tonight as they come they look to come back from a two one deficit here at Carston, California.
Galaxy two Sounders one in the eighty third minute. That's what he med was picks a ball up on the left hand side, drives forward, plays a little wall pass with Jovilich, go to the right inside to Rodriguez and it's a goal. There was a strike on the left side. It was Rodriguez who came in and struck the ball into the bottom left hand corner, his second goal on the night. The Galaxies third Galaxy three, Sounders one, and this is Raheem Edwards at his finest left back. He comes on as
a sub on the right and my right midfield position makes an impact. Then they make a tactical sub and here he is racing down the left hand side, a good interior pass Jovalich with a little a little outside the foot pass Raheem leaves it on that right hand side for the Sounders and it's buried into
the bottom corner for the La Galaxy. Well, Memo, Rodriguez certainly has had an impact tonight goal with what was his first touch of the game and then a strike, a low strike past theft Cleveland into Cleveland's left hand corner for a second goal in the night and the Galaxies third. As a Sounders now trail three goals to one. Well, we just said it, where the Galaxy gonna sit back and play for this win and time waste And sure
enough they come out with a counter attacking move Raheem Edwards. We know he's fast, we know he's got pace, and he makes all the difference there. But it's take nothing away from that finish, because that's a that's a class finish from no angle through traffic that finds the bottom corner. Now the Sounders a round at the gun. Daniel Agear comes inside, finds Pooge. You do just a little back heel tries to find Rodriguez in behind. Cleveland
collects it. But Sound as FC saw cards presented by Provident, Swedish official HealthCap part of Sound as FC as a sound is now trying to find themselves back in the game. Jaopaolo on the field now Nicola Daro in the field as they try to find a way back as since the referee puts his flag up, Jaopaolo shrugs off Pooge. But it's gonna be a free kick for the Galaxy. Sounds under the gun here and at this point it's it's all about tempo and I've got no problem. Now we're down three one. You
gotta play for the victories. Send one of our center backs up and the ball just from now on the last five minutes has to be lumped forward. There's no such thing as pretty soccer. When you're down two goals facing a knockout stage, everything's got to be played forward. And this is where you risk it. You try to play a short pass. It's not a quality plass from SUSA, and then Japolo has to take a yellow card. Galaxy,
waste two minutes off the clock and regain possession. Galaxy with the ball as they knock it long picked up by the Sounders, but your golfson tries to collect the ball, doesn't but JP does in the middle of the field and the Sounders half of the field tries to shift it from center to right over the left shoulder of read Baker White team, but slips out of bounds for a Galaxy thrown on their left hand side and raheam edwards. No rush
to take it. Now. The Galaxy in a comfortable position as they lead three goals to one here in Carson, California against your Sounders, as read Baker White and collects the ball on the halfway line on their right hand side press from the Sounds. They try to win the ball back quickly, but the Galaxy come away with it, but the Sounders pick it up middle of the field. Nicolodera now with his first real touch of the ball pulled back
by its Brugman. There's going to be a yellow card for Brugman on his fellow country Nicolodera, both from Uruguay. Brugman three hundred plus games in Italy for Palmer Palermo Empley signed in the summer of twenty twenty two. Being solid in the so far in the middle of the field as it sounds. Ever free kick with JP clips it long and high, knocked back by Ariaga top of the box, nor combination with Laderos Minongu loses the ball. The Galaxy
come away. That quick, incisive played by the Galaxy is that come away that in transition ball goes from the left to right all the way to the outside. It's Daniel Lagare tries to drive the ball well defended by Susa, comes across blocks, the shot rolls out for a Galaxy thrown and the Galaxy will be satisfied with that well done by the Galaxy. You know you're defending
under pressure. All the big bodies up for the Sounders do a good job to get our head on it. And then it's just that final product at the end which maybe a foul for the Sounders. Referee lets it play and the Galaxy find themselves now with a throw in deep in Sounders territory. Sounders look into come back from a three one deficit right now we're getting the eighty
ninth minute. Should be some time added for some of those injuries in the second half, but the Sounds now goal kick as they try and get the game going with JP ball was rolling. Referee is gonna call it back steph Cleveland ball back on the six yard Bucks gets it going. We shall Paulo Well. The Rave of Green travel to Texas take on Houston Dynamo FC this Saturday, May thirteenth at five thirty pm. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on nine fifty KGr AM or
l RAY thirteen sixty am in Spanish. The Providence Swedish prematch radio shows start at five pm. Galaxy three Sounds one here in Carson California. There's a Galaxy pickup possession on their left hand sorry goes to Pouge cuts inside and seen how many times pressed well by Reed Baker Whites. He looks like he's got
some heavy legs. It's a big feel to run. But the Galaxy now pick it up outside the football from center to ripe by Pouge's the Galaxy collected with Daniel League, a little back heel by Pouge, combination well now with the Galaxy and a foul by Montero on Brugman twenty five yards from gold Brad Evans. Somehow Pouge finds himself on the left hand side sixty yards away and then he's on the corner of the eighteen, making one touch passes and getting
the Galaxy out of pressure. You can see how much this game means to him after missing I think the last game for the Galaxy in Major League Soccer play, and what a big piece he is for this club. I think any MLS team would be lucky to have him. Bolt to Jovilitch top of the box, tries to flick it back inside a Russell, but the sound has come away to Buildolfson to Montero into Galaxy territory thirty yards from Gold Center. The field is Montera, ball at his feet, goes from bright It's
from middle to left. Manoongu dress across the ball, evade bull golf cern evades Montero and goes over the end line for a Galaxy goal. Kate remains Galaxy three, Sounders one and this will happen with young players. Freddie gives him the ball and he thinks he has to cross the ball to Freddy just because he's in the box, and it's not the right decision at the right
time. He's got a left back coming forward, create the overlap and get something high quality out of it. The sound has only had two runners in the box at this point. It's just a wrong decision from a young player. The extra mild stop each time is going to be four minutes. The Sounds have four minutes to find a way back into this game as they trail three goals to one against the Galaxy and US Open Cup Round of thirty two,
play one and done ka the Sounds lose. They go home and it's Manongu in the middle of the field tries to flick it over the corner. Press out by the Galaxies that come away with it. With pouge ball given away, Sounders pick it up their right hand side. Nicolodero has the ball pressed by the Galaxy as they're looking for their second win of the season.
As the sound is now of possession, they have to pick up the temper find that first goal before they can get that second goal to tie up, but pick up the pace to get into the ninety second minute now of four
additional minutes. As JP picks the ball up middle to left to Susa out to Manongu cuts inside of his preferred right foot, pulled back by Caligari, quick turned by Manongo back to Susa, flick around the corner, and they said, geah, who's going to shepherd the ball out of bounds over the end line for a goal kick for the Galaxy mains Galaxy three, Sounders one. And this is the point where the Galaxy are just going to timewaste good
on the Galaxy tonight and finishing their chances. That's been the difference tonight, high quality players finishing their chances. The Sounders will go in at the end of this game and look back at that first half and wonder, what if that's the worst case scenario. You never want to know what if, what if? After the game. Well, the Sounds so many great chances. Had the chances from top of the six yard bucks several times Jonathan Bond wasn't
particularly stretched at any of them. But as you said, Brad, the Brian Schweitzer and his team as they fly out to Houston tomorrow to face the Houston Dynamo, have been so solid at home in MLS play, another challenge for the Sounders as they have a heavy load of games in May. As
the ball goes down the line, it's Ladera tries to collect it. JP on a yellow card and again he missed the last game against supporting k seeks of yellow card accumulation as he chases down pooge with SUSA pooge as energy clips it around the corner, SUSA goes in foul pooge and most likely that will be that for the Sounders. So we approached the nine fourth minute of four
additional minutes. Getting into the last minute, it's Galaxy three Sounders, one bright Evanka, and you find Pughs picking up the ball on the left side, dribbling all the way across to this right side seems to do everything right tonight the game has run through him and the Galaxy. We'll see this one out and the Sounders will go to Houston. That a team that hasn't lost that home this year. It beat Kansas City tonight in Open Cups, so
it's a team that's flying high. A difficult task for our Sounders. Well, they go to Houston, they come back to playing home against Austin, So a pile up of games in May for the Sounders as they try to come back from that to one loss against Sporting Casey three. One down today gets the Galaxy and Carson, Californias. The Bull goes into Buelgolfson, heads
it wide, it goes out for a gold kick. As we get to the last few seconds of this game, the referee most likely bull get down the spot, goal kick taken, and then the finalist who will likely go but Brad is a player US Open Cup. Freddy Montera spoke about his love for the competition. Disappointment for the team tonight, Yeah, big disappointment for the team. Like we said, we created enough chances to win this game,
so the messaging won't be we played bad. It's just a matter of inches in this game and sometimes playing against a very good team in LA. It's gonna happen. But now the Sounders have a chance to focus on the regular season, get guys healthy. Like you said, tough stretch of games coming up for the Sounders. Leave the Open Cup in the past. The fans will be disappointed, but the boys will too, not necessarily with the
performance, but just being knocked out. Well, it's the floodlights flash to showcasey into the game for a Galaxy three one win here and Open Cup play. Early goal by O Day in the fourth minute, a response by Memo Rodriguez with his first touch putting the set the Galaxy up two goals to nil. Roth Rock gets a goal in the sixty eighth minute for the Sounders and then again me Rodriguez in the eighty fourth minute to score the third goal for
the Galaxy. Disappointing for the Sounders. But Brady, your final thoughts, Yeah, a young team for the Sounders tonight and missing a ton of starters, and it was just a matter of the Galaxy having pretty much a full strength team so to come away with this one three one. I don't think the goals were indicative of the play from the Galaxy. But the Sounders will be disappointed in the results. But it's good to get guys on the field, get them healthy, get JP some minutes, get Niko out there,
get him ready to go for Houston. Young guys got a lesson tonight in Carson, California. Well, thanks Bred for joining me tonight. The Sounders met us stubborn LA Galaxy team tonight and that twenty twenty three US Open Cup run comes to an end. We'll take a short break, Jackson Felt Andrew Harvey, We'll be back to break it all down from Dignity Health Sports Park

The Sounders FC postmatch show starts now well. The run for the US Open Cup for your Seattle Sounders in twenty twenty three has ended. It is a three to one loss for the Rave Green in Carson, California against the La Galaxy. Welcome into the postmatch show, Jackson Felts alongside Andrew Harvey and
Keiley Dunning. We are here for the next half hour or so. Jacob although running our board a great call from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans, but unfortunately it is a loss for our Sounders in California. We'll be breaking down a lot for the next half hour. We're gonna talk about this match, what we saw in this loss. A lot of young players got time and
got performances and got opportunities. We'll talk about that. We'll look ahead to what's next for not only the Seattle Sounders, but for Tacoma Defiance because Wade Weber got a lot of players some good run in this game. So we'll talk about what's ahead for both the Rave Green and Tacoma Defiance coming up later on in the post match show as well. And then of course, well you know, we don't have a Sounders Weekly on KGr this week, so
in lou of that, we have Andrew Harvey here. And for those who listen to Sounders Weekly frequently for the last how long have we been doing this too long? I know people have been have been dying to get me off your show, Jackson, it hasn't stucked yet. Well, I mean you are our Puget Sounds soccer expert and you've talked all things. You can take us around the sound each week, talk all things Defiance, ol Rain and Ballard FC, which you are the playlight play voice for for Ballard FC.
So we're gonna talk to some Ballert FC later on in the show as well. So for those who don't know, maybe you yeah, I didn't hear. First season for Ballot FC was last year and made it to the Western Championship Western Conference Championship in their first ever season, and now here comes to year number two. So we'll talk about that later on in the postmatch show. So there's a lot to get to here, but let's start tonight by looking at this match. The three to one lost there in Carson, California.
You know, we talked about this at the halftime show, and you know, everybody has a plan until you get punched in the face, right And in the third minute, great long distance call biote and it's a ball that Stephen Cleveland gets a hand to, just barely, but it's really a fantastic strike into the upper left corner of the back of the net and it is one nothing galaxy inside of three minutes and Andrew at that point, I know the Sounders end up playing well in the forty five minutes, but that's
really tough when you have to have a third minute goal go against you on the road in a cup match. Well, it's it's that old adage to the point of being a cliche, of how an early goal changes a game, right, and it really causes especially for a young roster, right. I think that we talked about it at halftime. It leads that extra little bit of shakiness. Some of the touches in the passes don't go quite where
you're intending them to because you're a little bit flustered. I think the Sounders responded really, really well, the young players in particular, who I think on the night, Admittedly they were the lion's share of the roster, but I think some of the top performers were some of the young guys that Brian Spenzer turned to and said, get out there and show me what you've got
it. I think they did that. They just came up a little bit short, and I think between that early given up goal and then really, in my mind, this match was so much gonna come down to who scored the first goal at the second half, and it wound up being La That's
exactly right, and we'll get into the second half in a moment. But you know, you're right, those young kids were having I think, really solid games there as the first half progressed the development and the connections, the combination play from Ethan Doublare Dylan Tevez on that right side, their combination play, especially with Freddie Montero up top, and Freddie Montero had probably the Sounders best chance at the game in the tenth minute, that the best chance that
didn't turn into a goal. We'll get to their goal in a moment, but you know that combination play from especially Ethan and Read as well Read Baker widing on the right back spot that was looking very very good. And you know, one of the interesting things as we kind of bleed this into the second half discussion, is the fact that Brian waited all the way until the sixty third minute to make a change, eighteen minutes after the second half started.
And that surprised me a bit because I was expecting to see a lot more dual Paulo, perhaps Nicholas Ladario commin early, but it wasn't. It was Susan and a Bieldosen who are able to get into this match in the sixty third. And I think that is a little bit of a nod from Brian. Spenser is saying, you guys are playing well, they're on that right side, you know, read and Ethan, I'm not gonna with things there. Well, you know, not to go straight into like parenting metaphors
Jackson. But I think right part of having the confidence to put a young lineup out there and saying, let's see how you handle this is also having the confidence to tell them, look, you've gotten yourselves into a hole. Let's see what you can do to dig yourselves out of it. And it was the young guys that kind of sparked that goal and brought a lot of the momentum back. So for Brian, I think, particularly right the Sounders want to win everything all the time, and tonight didn't quite work out.
You know, there goes one shot of the trophy this season. But I also think the opportunity to get young players minutes like this against competition like Pooge and Chitcharrito and out Of and so many other talented La Galaxy players. That was a first choice starting lineup because the Galaxy could not afford to lose this game, Jackson, it would be devastating to their hopes for the entire twenty
twenty three season. That's exactly right. The Galaxy just let's say, plainly, the Galaxy aren't going to win anything else this year, so they might as well go for the US Open Cup. Right now, they have three points in Major League Soccer, They're tied for the worst team in the league. They're having just a terrible, terrible season. So yeah, it makes sense why they would throw out a top shelf lineup with Ricky Pooge. Who
was I mean, can we just spend a second. Ricky Pooge is twenty three years old, was in Barcelona's system and now he's playing for the Galaxy. He was really good a month a little over a month ago when the Sounders were down there the two to one win. But tonight, wow, I mean that dude can dominate and just take over a match. He was
spectacular. Absolutely, But I will I will also throw out there, Jackson, he was I think less effective in the second half for the time that he was out there because he came up, But compared to that first right, I think Soda, Kittahara and josh A Tencio responded pretty well all things considered to trying to shut down a guy who is very difficult to remove from a day, No, exactly. A credit to josh A Tencio and Kihara too. And you know when we talk about the young guys, Georgie getting
his first ever plays his debut for the senior team. They're coming on for Kitaharre in the seventy seventh minute. Was good to see him. He has a lot of energy. He I mean, he runs about as hard and as fast as anybody had a trading session. So good to see him get run in overall, you know, just to continue kind of going through the timeline of this match. It was the second goal, the first goal of the second half. La scores in the sixty sixth minute. It's a corner
bounces through right through the box. It's Memo Rodriguez with his first touch since coming on a second earlier, outside of the left foot, goes into the back of the net. They're on the left side to nothing, and then seconds later, I mean it was like a minute later. You have a great build up through the right side. Ethan Doublair sends in a fantastic cross and it's your player to watch Paul Rothrock heading in the ball in the back
of the net. And I should mention that that is our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match, Paul Rothrock's goal. Um, there's no audio because I will take fault at this when I accidentally hit the escape button which deleted the audio. That's my bad, but I would tell you past at least it wasn't the full broadcast. Yeah, thank goodness. The Play of the match each week is presented by Emerald Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. And Andrew, I mean Paul roth Rock, who had a goal in
the game against San Diego. Now second game, second star or second you know, second goal that he picks up and listen. Not that Brian Schmitzer is going to insert him in into the at anytime soon, but it is a it's a massive confidence booster for this kid wherever he's playing for the next number of months. Absolutely, just really quickly, I will say, if you had actually deleted the full match audio, then you would have probably led with tonight was a night to forget. But no, right, I mean
roth Rock. I think it's one of those ones where again he's a young kid. He's not quite as young as some of the guys who came through the academy pathway. But the beauty of Tacoma defiance in this MLS next Pro league now is you can take some of those guys. There are a very good number of American soccer legends who didn't go through an academy. They played in college and sometimes it took him a year or two to kind of find
their feet and play their way into the professional sphere. I think we're in the early stages of seeing if that's what's gonna be roth Rock's tail. I think that's a good point right there, and then we'll see where this takes him. So roth Rox scores in the sixty eighth minute that made it a score of two to one. You bring on Georgie we mentioned, and you bring on Jual Paulo in the seventy seventh minute, and joal Polo did not
play against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. This is what surprised me. A little bit that it took till the seventy seventh minute to bring JP on as and now as I literally talk through this, I think to myself it's probably because Brian Spencer knows that if that match went another thirty minutes, it's with jual Polo on the field, and if you were to bring him on, say in the sixtieth, that might be asking sixty minutes out of JP.
You know, maybe what you do is you have him there knowing, okay, if we get a goal, if this thing ends, you know, to two and get another thirty that's field forty five minutes for JP, knowing that he is going to be needed heavily in Saturday's mentioned Houston. So that that actually substitute is I talked through, it makes a lot more sense. And you have that sub, you have Ladero in the eighty third, and at that point you have your big guns on the field. You thought that
it was going to produce something. But I don't think they. I don't think that the combination of JP and Ladero ever got their chance. With La scoring in the eighty fourth, well, Jackson, I think right this was never a match that Seattle is going to let finish as a one goal game. Yeah, you know, it's one of those ones where you see it all the time. You see the score one, you see three one, you go, oh man, that must not have been very close. But
it was a competitive second half. Seattle was rallying momentum. But the end result of any knockout competition is if you're chasing the game, you're going to commit numbers for it, which leaves some gas at the back. And that led to Rodriguez's second goal of the night, which was a tidy finish.
It absolutely was, and I think you saw that because you see on that specific play in the eighty fourth minute, the Sounders do commit a ton of people forward and then Raheem Edwards picks up the ball on the left side and Raheem Edwards ran about fifty yards. I mean, he had pretty much the entire field to just take off because there just wasn't there were there weren't those
defenders there to stop him. And by the time he got to the box lays it off to Memo Meymo Rodriguez, it was just there's there's three defenders in the area and and none of them were on Memo and it's just you know, it is what it is. So the end of the day, that is the third goal, and you pushed, you push, you push, You're not able to get another goal. It ends three to one, and the Sounders run in the US Open Cup ends by a score of three
to one. I'll tell you that Delta Airlines is proudly to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounder ZIZC players this season. There ray foundations one mile one ball program and Andrew, you know, in the Open Cup overall, right now, we've seen these last six years. For five straight it was no wins. This year you pick up the win against San Diego. You have a competitive match, you know, for most of this game down in Los Angeles. I'd like to say that the woes of the Open
Cup are now over. I'd like to to say, you know, for for so many years we looked at we looked at US Open Cups as the bugaboo is the trouble, and we can you can say, you know, you know the investment and how much you put into it as a whole separate thing. But whether it was a curse or not, I'm going into twenty twenty four saying you no longer have had the monkey on the back off we got to get an Open Cup win that's now gone. You know, I
understand the monkey on the back sensation. I think it's exacerbated by the fact that the twenty twenty and twenty twenty one Cups were canceled right sore there. It's just a blank spot, and so as a result, that stretch feels worse than than it really was. Because it's true, prior to this, the last time, well including this one, the last time the Sounders went further than two matches, they played a third in the Open Cup because they
keep changing the format. Yeah, it was twenty sixteen, and all they've done in that span is win to two MLS Cups, finishes runners up in two more one, four Western Conference Championships, and one Cup concoption. It's it's just it's one of those ones where, right again, the Sounders hate to lose at anything, and astonishingly they've they've managed to pretty much succeeded winning just about everything they set their minds to in the span that they've been in
Major League Soccer. It's just one of those ones where on the night when you get knocked out of the Cup. If that's the only thing on your mind, it's what twists you. And honestly, I think it's what makes this team as great as it is. I mean, if you're if you're looking at yet Keily, go ahead, No, dude, we just need to have Andrew on more often because he's mister positivity as your Sounders representative over
here. I'm not upset about it at all. I mean, like, just keep the compliments going, keep the context can, keep the context going. That's great. Context loved it, loved it. So you know. Well, with that said, let's let's look ahead because the Sounders have to jump right back into MLS actions. So it's going to be Houston on Saturday.
Let's take a break. Let's talk about not only what's up next for the Sounders, but what's up next for a lot of the players who played in this match, and what's up next for Wade Webber's squad with the Coma Defiance. They're having a good season so far in MLX MLS next pro if I can say that correctly, and so we'll talk about what's coming up for
them. There's a lot to get to you. Unfortunately, as we mentioned, the US Open Cup run here in twenty twenty three has ended with a three one loss here in the round of thirty two to the La Galaxy on the road in cars in California. But there's a lot to look forward to. We'll continue with that on the postgame show coming up on Sports Radio at nine fifty KJR AM. Good day, or as we've hiking say guten pad.

Welcome back to the postmatch show Jackson Felts alongside Andrew Harvey and Keiley Dunning breaking down what was unfortunately the end of the US Open Cup run for your Seattle Sounders tonight in twenty twenty three, a three to one loss down in
Carson, California against the La Galaxy. But listen, we gotta take a look ahead to what's next, because you know the every day the sun will rise, and for the Sounders, the sun will rise in Carson, California, and it will set in Houston, Texas, because that is where they are headed tomorrow for a match coming up on Saturday. Really quickly broadcast details on that the Sounders will be playing in Houston against the Dynamo this Saturday.
You can listen to that match on this station. Here. It's gonna be a five o'clock pre match show, The Providence Swedish Prematch Show five thirty kickoff from Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. You can also watch the match via MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. Listen in Spanish language on l Ray thirteen sixty. So that's coming up. We'll talk about that in just a
moment really quickly, Andrews. Let's run through some other Open Cup games here this week, because I know one of them involved was the Houston Dynamo. Yeah. Happy to Jackson. The bad news if you like cup sets tonight, I don't have any on offer for you. Seriously, we need to bring Andrew on more often. That was the best pun ever, Thank you very much. There, FC Cincinnati, you walk off one nil winners at home against New York City. FC Columbus Crew on the road against Loudon United,
but they win five one. Not a big surprise there. Some USL Championship on USL Championship crime Birmingham Legion and take down Memphis nine to one. FC three nil at home Nashville SC two nil winners over Dallas Austin tun no winners over New Mexico United, also from the second Division RSL win on the road for three over the Portland Timbers down to Providence Park. Interestingly, about that seven goal match, Jackson no goal scored after the hour mark. Just
a scoreless final seven. It's just a scoreless just a scoreless final thirty minutes. Thank you. RSL did get real crowded. From the fiftieth to the sixties. We had we had three goals in that ten minute span. And then finally Houston Dynamo one nil winners against Sporting Casey at home. So Houston is coming off a win. They didn't really play a lot of their starters in that one nothing win against Kansas City, so they're gonna be fresh for
Saturday's match. And listen, this is a Houston team. I feel like we were just talking off the air. Keiley, you can jump into the fact that, you know, before a couple of years ago, the Sounders have always made this road trip to Houston in the months of like July, August, September, when it was muggy and hundred degrees and just terrible playing
conditions. They're making this trip in the month of May, which is far better, but still, I mean, Houston dynamore right now undefeated at home, and whenever you're playing a team who is undefeated at home, and the Sounders were, you know, just going back to last Sunday. It's gonna be a tough test. Yeah, absolutely, And right, there's a there was a weird, weird stat for the first five or six years where the Sounders were an MLS where they I think failed to take a point from all
their trips to Texas or they could never get a win. I can't quite remember it was, but even had that stats. It's back when it was just Houston and Dallas. But it's a really really difficult place to play. And right you say, well, they're going in the month more reasonable month of May, reasonable by tex and standards checks, and so it could still be quite unpleasant down there. Yeah, e C. Dallas is my second least favorite road trip to Houston favorite. It's a giant parking lot. That
is what that city is. It's a giant concrete parking lot. So I'm very happy that we will be producing radio from iHeart Studios. All I can think of right now is is how it can make a joke of parking the bus with that parking lot comment. But I have I'm coming up with a blank workshop get back to the writer's right. So so listen to Sounders.
That will be a tough match and ultimately I think one of the good things that you saw from this game was the fact that Nicholas Ledaril he does come off the bench and he does play, you know, fifteen or so minutes. Joel Polo same sort of case. He does play another fifteen or so minutes. So for Nico, you get a little bit of a run in. Doesn't look like he takes a knock or anything. He'll be good to
go. Juel Polo, you know, Joel Polo didn't play Sunday against Sporting Kansas City, So the fact that he does get a few minutes on his legs tell us you he's now amped up, ready to go. So when you look at the team that Brian Spenser should be able to throw out there this weekend, should bench and Leo Chew unavailable. He's staying in Seattle for
the birth of his son, So no Leo Chew. But when you build the rest of this lineup, and I kind of talk through this, and there's no insight information, no insight here, You're looking at a very very good team. You'd think a bit error starts at the fourth position, Jordan Morris on the left, Nico in the center, and probably Albert russnack off to the right, Joel Paulo holding next to a There's an interesting question there because Josh Atencio played long tonight. But I think you have a lot of
good depth at that position. You have a question market left back with knew who and his situation with his in large spleen reed Baker Widing went long today, So the question market left is interesting or right back considering Alex Roldan,
but it's Yamar and Jackson Reagan with Frying Gold. I mean, there are is a couple of question marks there, but ultimately the Sounders are gonna be able to throw out a ridiculously talented team against Houston this Saturday, right and you know, equally important a fresh team Jackson that that's going on on fresh list, because this Houston side in all competitions is unbeaten in their last six matches, I believe, stretching back to the beginning of April. So you
know they're in a good run of form. They have the advantage of playing at home in a slightly less hospitable conditions, I guess might be the right way of framing that one. And so you know, right to get such a performance out of the young guys tonight. Even though the result wasn't you wasn't what you wanted, it does allow them to kind of stay fresh going into the weekend because again, right, busy week coming up the week after
as well. That's so correct, because they go to or they play Austin excuse me, Wednesday of next week, so it will be a very busy next you know, ten days for the Sounders, Lots and lots of games to worry about. So we'll see how Brian Spencer does throw his starting formation
coming up Saturday. And then you know, for a lot of guys who played in this match as well and came off the bench started, guys like Paul Rothrock who's and and I know Wade Weber is certainly watching, was watching this match to see how much time and Paul Rothrock gets his goal and how
much time a lot of his players play. Jacoma de Fiance, you know, has has stuff coming up as well that Wade's going to have to think about how long guys went, what their status is, and how he can use certain players who played in this match coming up for the Defiance match. Yeah, less crowded for the Defiance, just two over the next two weeks for them. They they'll go this weekend at home against Minnesota United FC two. That match will be at Starfire and air on MLS next top pro dot
Com. That's the fourteenth at eight pm. And then they'll be on the road at Vancouver Whitecaps two on the twenty first. Both those teams doing pretty well right now in the Western Conference standings, but are lower than Tacoma Defiance. And again, right, it's one of those ones where you bring a guy back to MLS Next Pro, you can point out right, show him game film of him playing against Chicharito and Pooge and go, look, you can do it up there. We know you can do it down here.
Let's just keep developing you and getting you to where we know we can start to reliably put you on the bench for the first team if you play your way to that contract. That's absolutely right. And a guy like Rothrock, we mentioned in the first segment that he's playing with such confidence right now. Two senior team games and two goals, so now you'd imagine that he with a few other guys fly back Cody Baker, by the way, and Cody Baker starts at left back. He started of course, against San Diego.
He was on the short term agreement for the Sounders against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. Cody Baker looks like a great left back, just a rock back there who plays so simple and just always seems to make the right pass. I think Brad Brad Evans mentioned that as well. Cody Baker seems like a guy that could definitely earn himself into a first team contract just by how it
is simple and rock solid he plays consistently. It's just so funny for me because I think I started calling Cody's games when he was fifteen, when he when he started making appearances for Defiance, you know, when he was still an accademy player down in the USL Championship. And so now you know, here I am all these laders and I'm just gonna be like, oh man, that's such an old man, and there's the nineteen year old left back.
But right, this is this is what the whole pipeline program has always been about, as can you get these guys to a place where they're playing professional soccer when they are fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, because by the time they are eighteen, nineteen, twenty you have a much better idea of what kind of player they might be able to grow into, and the value of
playing professional ball is immense. It absolutely is well. Pretty much show five o'clock kickoff five thirty right here Sports Radio nine fifty KGr AM for the Sounders

And you know, for those of you who here, you know Sounders weekly each and every week seven to eight pm, whether it's on Tuesdays or Wednesdays or whatever day I'm told to do the show. Before I ask you about oh Rain, I'll quickly tell everybody that the doubleheader coming up on June third, Sounders and ol Rain Sounders are playing the Portland Timbers at Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at louman Field at won thirty on June third. Ol Rain then host the Portland Thorns. It's a Seattle versus Portland battle Rain
versus Thorns in the NWSL happens at five o'clock. They're at louman Field. Additional tickets have just been made available for this marquee matchup given that high demand, so secure your seats today by visiting SOUNDERSFC dot com slash tickets. But Andrew, before we get to June third, what's going on with ol Rain right now? Well, Jackson, they're top of both their respective tables at the moment. They are at the top of their NWSL Challenge Cup group stage.
They played Angel City to a scoreless nil nil draw, but an earlier win over Angel City has them out in front. That competition doesn't really get played on a consistent schedule, so more updates on that to come. They're also top of the league table as they're currently on pace for their fourth NWSL Shield Admitaly. It's still early phases of the season, but they're there by virtue of a two nil win over the Houston Dash last weekend and that allowed
them to vault Portland. They've taken thirteen points from their last five matches. Oh that's yeah, it's not bad. Battle four h and one in five matches. I'll take that literally every day of the week. That's fantastic. Um have four shields me and my goodness, if if they're able to three so far so if if they're able to get that fourth, I mean, my goodness, and congratulate. I mean, obviously they got it last year.
I believe this. The two nothing win was there one hundredth win in NWSL regular season history too, So um heck of a job, Ol Rayner right now doing hopefully they can keep it up in the NWSL. Now you're also they play by play voice. Oh our local squad, Ballard FC. And by the way, I see you wearing their new kid, which is just unbelievable. That's a clean of as clean of a fit as I've ever
seen. Um. I mean, for those who don't know, there is a USL two side Ballard Ballard FC, who plays right out of Inner Bay Stadium right up the road here and first season ones last year went to the Western Conference Championship in their first ever year. But Andrew, we're about to start year two, aren't we Yeah, just around the corner, Jackson. They have a friendly at home against the Vancouver white Caps nineteen's next Thursday.
Very interesting. They chose to have that the day after sitting to my, uh but but you know, thankful it won't be a problem for the players, might be for some of the fans. I'll be taking the seventeenth off of sitting to buy celebrations. Nobody wants to see what that looks like. And then they are on the road at Olietown FC, the other Washington USL two club right now to start the season on the twenty first. A couple home games coming up. You can find the whole schedule on go ballotfc dot
com. A lot of matches sold out already for seated tickets, but there's
a great standing room only section. They actually just announced that the beer Garden is actually expanding in size and also will be all ages for people under twenty one who have someone over twenty one accompanying them, And of course the proceeds in that in the beer Garden go to benefit the Ballot FC Foundation, which they are using to raise money for teams like Cultures United and to help make a high level soccer education and training affordable to kids who might not be able
to play you know, expensive club ball. That's one of the things with BALLOTFC that struck me is how community, community or into that club is and they do so much and the work that the entire organization and obviously Lamar and Ago is a part owner two, you know, to connect it with the Sounders, but but the entire organization and to connect with you as well,
very much all efforts. Yes, it's to make a great on field product when games go, get a cup, but at the same time, it's to better the community and to be really kind of just embed themselves within the Ballard Innerbate community. And I know you're very involved in that as well.
Yeah, yeah, well, and you know, I think, right from a club perspective, it's something that tends to be in the DNA of all the clubs out here, you know, the Sounders, it's in their mission statement, I think, and I'm trying to make sure I have it close to right. But it's to use soccer as a vehicle for good or something
along those lives. And in thinking about, you know, what I might be able to do to contribute to that, I actually did some reflecting off this offseason, met up with a couple of folks at the Ballard Food Bank, which is an organization that they're very closely connected with all at FC, and I'm pleased to announce I partnered with the Bridgekeepers, who are the best supporters group in USL League too, barn On, and we are doing what
we're calling our Community Goals campaign for Ballot FC. So for every goal Ballot FC scores this year in friendlies and league play, in the playoffs and everything, I'm making the twenty dollars donation to the Ballard Food Bank and I've put
a link up. You can find that on my social media My Twitter and Instagram are at soccer vox vox and basically people can go and and pledge whatever they like, even if it's just a dollar a goal, just to try to one give me an even better reason to be losing my mind when Ballard score a goal. Oh my god, they score. That's amazing, And we're raising money for a great cause. But the Food Bank does really amazing work. I could be here till eleven pm talking about it, but I
won't do that that. The biggest things to me are are they are right there. Their metrics show that they're helping seven thousand people a month in our community. It feels crazy to say it, but potentially up to one in five people in Seattle or experiencing food insecurity and that just doesn't seem like a
problem that people need to deal with. But beyond that, they also use their their center there as a hub for other services to come and reach at risk populations so that someone doesn't have to try to be taking the bus all over You can just go to the food bank, get what you need, and also get connected with the service that you need to help me out.
So there are a great organization. Whether you get involved with community goals or not, I urge you to look them up, think about donating, volunteering some of your time. Um, they're a fantastic outfit and I am deeply honored to even be mentioned in the same sentences them. So cool, dude, thank you for thank you for doing that. So that's first. Secondly, Um, Jason Farrell, is he is he aware you're doing this?
Because because I think at that point you go into the locker room and you say the and all these players you know from colleges locally and around that. Right, there is the motiving guys score goals tonight, make Andrew Harvey spend two hundred dollars to have about food bank. So I will say, when I was first talking about this, one of the first be all I talked to was Jason. I mentioned that twenty dollars figure, and he pulled me aside and he goes, listen, listen. We had a great year last
year. We think our squad this year is even better. You might want to rethink that number, but I don't want to go ten dollars. I'm sticking to my guns and I know it's all going to work out in the aggregate. Yeah, because you know a BALLARTFC scores. They scored quite a lot of goals last year. I've heard a score more this year. You have the check book out now. But that means, in all seriousness, that's that's it's amazing what you're doing. So so well done man. Thank
you very much, Jackson. I appreciate it. Um, that's outstanding. Worked to be on the lookout. I mean, next week for Sounders Weekly, we'll we'll continue talking about that and we'll talk more Ballard FC. I'll probably have Jason on the show at some point soon to look ahead at the twenty and twenty three seasons, is Ballard tries to get right back and go even further than the West Final last year, last thing here on the postgame
show, and that's going to be something that I'm involved with. It's it's it's not doing as for good Keiley. Is there a way we can we can make that for gun? I mean that that's a heck of a thing to fall here. But but no, we got the side by Side podcast coming up with with Brad Evans tomorrow. Yes we do so. Steve Zakwani is out of town this week, so we'll have Jackson Felt's filling some very very large shoes on the podcast tomorrow. Uh published probably later in the afternoon.
Check it out anywhere you get your podcasts. Andrew, everything you're doing is so cool and I really seriously need that Jersey. Do they have it in an extra small well children's science we'll talk. That will be U. That will be great. And then so check out this side by Side podcast tomorrow. I've decided that I'm not even gonna put on the shoes. There's no way that I can even fit in those shoes. So I'm just gonna leave my socks on and uh and yeah, no, no English accent,
none of that stuff. Probably. I actually did try and do that once with the episode with Andy Rose. I was like can I do it? And he was just like, no, you can you and and oh gosh, uh yeah, not gonna go anywhere near that is Andrew I see pulling up the jersey. By the way, they're all vill Ones, simply Seattle, Simply Seattle's Ballad FC collection is right there, um and they are the
coolest jerseys you will find outside of the Seattle Sounders, of course. But a very very cool job that Ballard FC is doing with all of their jerseys. But once again the rout of the broadcast there Sounders falling in the US Open Cup. They're eliminated from the twenty two twenty three tournaments by a score
of three to one to the La Galaxy. Tonight match coming up on Wednesday, you'll be able to hear it right here on this station, Sports Radio nine fifty KGr AM five pm pre match five thirty kickoff sounders are at Houston. So thank you so much for listening to the broadcast tonight. Danny Jackson Brad Evans, great call, Andrew Harvey, Keeley Dunning, Jabo Waldo. My name is Jackson Felts.
