I tell you, little buddy, this whole island is bewitched. You remember? We were shipwrecked together. Welcome to this bonus episode of Sound Opinions. I am Greg Cott. My co-host is Jim DeRogatis. If you want to be the first to hear our bonus podcasts, become a Sound Opinions member on Patreon, like Alana from Austin, Texas, one of our favorite cities in the whole world. Thanks for the dough. We appreciate every penny. It makes a big difference in how we're able to operate here.

Jim, you're going to lay a Desert Island jukebox track on us. Give us a hint. Well, I'm going to play a track that I vaguely knew in the past but recently was reminded of when it popped up in an incredible streaming series that I also want to plug.

And that gives us a chance to plug our new bonus bonus podcast as well. Very, very good. Those streaming series and their music. We could do a whole... series of episodes they've inspired a lot of these bonus picks lately i mean you know this music and you love it and then you hear it in a new context and you're like i gotta do that for a dij exactly so i can't wait to hear what uh what series you're gonna pick music from that's coming up in a minute on sound opinions

Welcome back to Sound Opinions. Jim, you're going to Streaming Land to pick out a track that you heard in a new context, and it blew your mind, right? Well, yeah. You know, let me give a plug, Greg. We are going to do... So we do these bonus podcasts, and our Patreon... supporters have first crack at them ad free and we have decided so thankful are we of this patreon support that we're going to do a bonus bonus podcast debuting early in the new year

We're calling it everything else with sound opinions. Now, the core team here, you and me and Andrew Gill and Alex Claiborne, we are culture vultures one and all. We are forever seeking out interesting streaming. TV shows and great new movies and books. And, you know, sometimes we eat in between all of that. And of course, we're listening to music nonstop. Our conversations before and after taping are always fascinating.

sharing new discoveries with each other or warning each other off of things like don't waste your time on this i just saw whatever i just uh listened to it all right so we are uh everything else with sound opinions but um i don't want to detract from from talking about the series there. But Say Nothing blew my mind and Carmel's mind. We binge watched it. It is a great new series streaming on Hulu that is about the troubles.

Ireland, Northern Ireland. And it starts out, you know, with a kind of revolutionary verve, you know, these kids basically fighting for the independence of Northern Ireland. And then it becomes... as the violence wears everybody down, it becomes a cautionary tale about no one can maintain their humanity in the face of...

non-stop violence no matter how good the cause originally was but from the heady early days of fighting for independence we have a wonderful appearance on the soundtrack by the song go from tones on tale you remember this oh yeah great song and uh great use of it in that in that show i was forgetting the artist right and so for two three days carmel and i are walking around going yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah what the hell was that

right you know you have so much music crammed in your head eventually you it's like there's too much I can't remember everything tones on tail what a weird little I was not the biggest Bauhaus fan in the world. You know, Bela Lugosi's dead, and I don't need anything more, really. Oh, in a flat field. I mean, I thought they were great. I grew up at the Wax Trax record store, so I had to know all these.

And I got a high goth tolerance. You know that. But I wasn't the biggest Bauhaus fan. You know, in between Daniel Ashe, while Bauhaus is ongoing, you know, does this side project, Tones on Tail. with a buddy of his from art school, Glenn Campling. And, you know, they only put out one album, 1984, but they had a hit in dance clubs around the world with this song, Go.

otherwise known to Jim as, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Great use of it in Say Nothing, turned me on to it again, reminded me. You know, and then... Like, eventually, Tones on Tail, after one album is sidelined as well, and we get Love and Rockets. You know, it just always was like a hole that I never fell into. Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail. But this song...

is immortal. And I forgot this, too. I've forgotten more about music than some people ever knew. Moby sampled it for his 1990 smash hit Go. Yes. And, you know, I mean, that is really ground zero. zero of techno's short-lived attempt to take over the pop charts, right? You know, there was a moment where this was going to be the next big thing. I always loved the Moby song, and I love Tones on Tail. So here it is. Go! you got to have with the exclamation point. Go! Through the fear of being raised

Tones on Tail. Go! Isn't that a great song? I love it. And you've thrown down the gauntlet. I have to give you a Lovin' Rockets, D.I.J., to come up next, because they were a great band, too. I think all three of those bands were fantastic. This is why we need another bonus, bonus podcast, because...

I love the graphic novels, Love and Rockets, more than I love the band, Love and Rockets. I understand. I'm going to play you a tune, though, that you're going to love. All right. Okay.
