up on it. And I have Marcy joining me on the phone right now, going to talk about the Salvation Army. We see them this time of year, ringing the bells and have a little red kettles. We're going to chat a little more about that. Marcy. How are you doing? John great? How are you h I am fantastic. Now. You guys do amazing things throughout the year, but this time of year people see you on like in front of stores with the little red kettles, ringing the bells and
collecting money. It's been a long long time. Do you know when the bell ringing started? When did they start doing this? You know, I believe it was back like in the beginning of the nineteen hundreds. That actually started in San Francisco. There was an officer and they had wanted to do a Christmas Day meal and he went out with actually a black pot and a kettle, and that's how it all started. He, you know, went out and rang that bell and asked for donations so that they could provide a
Christmas meal in that community. And it's just grown since then, and it's for every Salvation Army. It's one of our biggest fundraising events every year. We try to raise about a third of our operating budget through this time. So the donations not only go to help provide holiday assistants to those that are in need and Christmas gifts to children, but it also supports our emergency food pantry and our rent and utility assistance that we provide throughout the year. Well,
thank you for doing what you do. I think it's really really cool. We're going to make sure we help spread the word and let folks know how they can donate. eighteen ninety, over one hundred and thirty years ago. Now Sue Falls saw the beginning of a singing tradition that is still alive today, the Mini Haha Man Score that is a Norwegian men's choir. The name of the group is actually quite simple. It's from the Norwegian language, where the word mond m and means men's and score sko r means choir. Obviously Minni Haha in the name of the county that's where all of the original twenty one one members
of the group lived. Mini Haaha Man Score has been performing ballads, folk songs, Christmas carols, and even some popular contemporary songs they've picked up in the last one hundred and thirty plus years. Oftentimes, in the past they would sing both Norwegian and English versions, although they have slowed a bit since COVID Man score. Today rehearses at the Center for Active Generations and the perform
