to the John and Heidie Show on a Tuesday Again. Today is the final day to register for the Mocktails mix off. We talked about it a bit ago, but I'll give you a little more information right now. This has been going on for like a decade now, and it's been really kind of a cool thing because even though the nonprofit that started it no longer is involved, and then it went to a different nonprofit and then they moved on.
It's been handed around a bunch. Sunny Radio was even the group that was in charge of it one year, and it's something that I love so much that I didn't want it to go away. And the last few years I've been so thankful Health Connective South Dakota has picked this up and they've said, you know what, we're going to take it. We're going to run with it. It is a really great way to provide non alcohol drink options during the holidays, and then they even started one in the summertime, which I
love that. So now there's some really good drink recipes for summertime drinks as well. But we've got years worth of recipes. So if you're looking for ideas for your holiday parties, you're going, Okay, we're having people over. What can we have for people that are under age? What can we have for people who maybe don't drink? What can we have for people who maybe shouldn't drink because they got to drive somewhere. But that doesn't mean they
need to just drink water. They can drink something cool. And there are some really amazing drink recipes. It gets submitted every year. If you have a drink recipe on the top of your head, where you're going, oh hey, we make this thing that's really good, submit that drink recipe. You could win five hundred bucks man again, five hundred first place, three hundred second place, one hundred and fifty third place. I'll tell you how
to submit that here in just a minute. Now. If you don't have a drink recipe, if you're going, oh, John, that sounds awesome, and boy, I could sure use some extra money right now, But I just don't have a drink recipe. All right. Do you have access to a thing called the Internet. Get on that thing, go to this little Google machine and say non alcohol drink recipes. You'll find thousands of ideas. Take one of those, tweak it a little bit, make it your
own, and then here's the key. Come up with a really fun name, because that's part of what you're being judged on. The judges will be judging you on the name of the drink, how the drink looks, how the drink tastes. You know. So there's a bunch of things involved, but the recipe is just one of the three things. So come up with a fun name, make sure your presentation really good, and then again you want it to taste good as well, and then you could walk away with
five hundred bucks on December seventh. Now that's a long ways away. December seventh, that's like weeks from now. But today is the deadline to register. You don't have to do it this very second, but do it sometime today. Go to the website mocktailsmixof dot com. Once you get there, you fill out a form. It's going to be a really simple form. I'll tell you what it says on here. It's your name, your phone number, your email. So that way we can reach out and let you
know if you're one of the qualifiers. A recipe name and I put right on the form. The more fun, the better, and then the recipe. And then if you can make it to the live event, then you get to come and compete. If you can't, but your drink is chosen. You can also send somebody in your place. If you're like, oh wow, I'd love to go, but I can't be there on December seventh, you can check a box that says I can't be there, but I
can send somebody in my place. That way, if your drink is selected, you send your daughter, your son, your brother, your cousin, your friend and neighbor whoever. And then you guys get to deal with who gets the money. I mean, that's up to you. But again, if you would like to submit your drink recipe or if you we'd like to find a drink recipe to submit, today is the day. Beatle is dedicated in the rotunda in Peer The statue was sculpted by Sue Fall sculptor Harry Daniel Webster. Webster was
raised and educated in Sue Falls before moving to Connecticut to pursue art. In fact, he sculpted the clay model of the statue with Beatle posing at the Washington High School in Sioux Falls. W H. H. Beadle was a pretty interesting guy. He was actually the commander of the Honor Guard during Abraham Lincoln's second inauguration, and he took a space in Lincoln's funeral procession. President Grant appointed him the Surveyor General of the Dakota Territory in eighteen sixty nine,
and he would live out here for the next four decades. He spent a time in Sue Falls and in Peer taught for many years at the Teacher College in Madison that is now known as DSU. Beatle was instrumental in the early establishment of education in South Dakota and the reserving of federal land for public school projects throughout the West.
