him only just at one time. We were getting out of the car that took us there and he was standing there and I think Bill went over to shake his hands say hi to him. I think Bill kind of knew him, and he h Hollie, I think elbow punched instead of fist bumps. He elbow bumps. He's like a germ free. Yeah, he's hoardy. I've always liked him. I loved him on Make Me Laugh and how he's a funny guy. So but no, never met him, but they got you're gonna love him up there. He's funny. Yeah, I think so

Ever since I gave her that life alert, she buzzes that thing five or six times a day, but it's always it's always for this, oh gliffe of that. I run down there. You okay, yeah, can you get channels six? Chill? But all right? You okay? Yeah? Can you get me some coffee? Yeah? You know, And I'm like, what help? Till the other day I go down there and she's laying in a little bowl on the

Thanks for listening to the John End Heidi Show Bonus Hour on a Monday. It's time right now for a real estate update with mister Brent
Baker. First of all, good to see you at the Certoma Fest last week. So it was good. Thanks, it's a good, good event. Yeah, thanks for doing that and Today we're going to talk about some steps for empowering home buyer clients with disabilities. And this is something that there was probably a day and age where this was never even a consideration. And then there's somebody who maybe had an issue where they needed this, and they're going, Okay, this home wasn't built at all up to the things that
we need. But it's probably becoming more and more common now, isn't it, well, very commonplace? And you know they're starting to think about people aging in place, and they've been thinking about this for some time. It just takes a while for it all to catch up. But there are special needs. There's a young lady where I grew up. Her parents I have had to make major concessions, not concessions, adjustments to their home. She
has cerebral palsy. Yet she has done some amazing things. And I think we restrict their lives because it's built around our abilities, not more people's abilities. So we talk about it's more than just ramps, it's more than wider doors. It's the height of the light switches so that they can reach them. Are there like laws and guidelines and things nowadays as well? Or is that not even a thing there are and that applies mostly to commercial buildings,
but in certain types of housing it does come into play. And so like again height of light swis, which is having braille on the surface of the switch plates or on the door panels. And then it's access to public transportation. How are they going to get around? And for some cases they have
to be near medical facilities for regular appointments and so forth. And so I think as a society we sometimes either limit them by how we live our lives, or we don't give them enough credit for the things that they can do. We just make it challenging. Yeah, absolutely, so, as I'm kind of flipping through the info because you gave me all kinds of great information, or one of the things is assess the situation and ask good questions.
And I suppose that probably would be good for everybody of all abilities to ask questions, but maybe even a little more important when you're saying I'm trying to find the right place for a person who maybe has limited mobility, because you know, you probably don't want to be on the third floor in a building with no stare or with no elevator or something, then would yeah, correct, And sometimes and I think of some of the older condo buildings that are
in the city, and some of those elevators might be a little crowded. Yeah, and you know, they were built at a time when not everybody was taken into consideration. Probably. The other thing is when we ask the questions, are we coming from an assumption or are we asking to learn about what's important to them, what their needs are. Absolutely, and another thing I'm here to talk about being mindful of scheduling and showing the homes, because
that's probably something else that we should be thinking about for everybody. Really, again, when it comes to this, correct you know, as a seller it yes, it's your house. However you do have to bear in mind you want it to be somebody else's. So and sometimes these buyers are having to use special transportation that may not operate at all hours. Yeah, and so I found that out just moving, having my dad moved from the nursing
home to a visitation service for a family member on a weekend. There wasn't somebody available in the community where he lived. I had to have somebody from Sioux Falls go and do it. Yeah. So there's just a lot of things that come into play. That I don't think about as an able bodied person who can walk out to his garage get in his pickout. It's not on the top of your mind all the time. No, Unfortunately, you know, some people have to live by a different set of not rules,
but reality. Realities is a good word for what they have to deal with. And one of the other things on here I see is is evaluate your ability to serve. And this again is a thing, it's kind of what we're talking about right now, but being able to make sure that you can help them find what they're looking for. Correct. You know, we have to put aside some assumptions. And we've used the word handicapped, and somebody I know and in fact sold them a house said, that's an old Civil
War term. It's cap in hand is where it really came from, you know, Civil War veterans, you know, trying to beg for money because they had no means to earn a living back then. Really, people just have different limitations. The ones I have are between my ears. I think I have those same limitations brand But the young lady where I grew up has cerebral palsy. I've got a past client who has cerebral palsy. I've never seen somebody go up a staircase so fast as him, and yet he's never
walked a step in his life. But then there are certain other things that he just simply cannot do. But he can certainly operate that wheelchair very well. And there are certain things that can happen where you go from living a life without any of this on the forefront of your mind, all of a
sudden it starts creeping in. My father in law has Parkinson's and over the course of the last few years we've noticed, you know, it's progressing like it does, and there are some considerations that they're going through right now, saying, you know, what is this going to mean in five years? What is it going to mean in ten years? And again when you're making plans, all of this stuff starts to matter a little more, doesn't it.
It really does. And you know, in some cases it can change in an instant and you go from being able to do everything on your own to an accident or some type of injury changing your life dramatically. And in some cases. I remember a fellow I've known for many years. He and his wife intentionally built their house because they said, in our business, we have to stay near it. But we have a lot of kids in sports, and what if somebody in this family becomes has a limitation suddenly from an
accident or a sports injury. And so they intentionally built their house that way, and I thought that was really smart. Yeah, they could stay there well into their retirement years, even after the kids are gone. Yeah. Absolutely.
