So first of all, coming up in a moment, we're going to talk a little bit about the Dan Ferris celebration of life event that's coming up. It
was one week ago today that he passed away. So it's going to be such a difficult day, going to be a tough day today, but we will be chatting in just a little bit We've had a lot of people reach out asking how can we be involved, what can we do, So we'll kind of chat a little bit about that. But we're going to do that here in a moment. So that's coming up, and we'll have Brent Baker
back in the studio next week. He's not going to be able to make it today, but we'll have him back next week because we quite often on Mondays we do a little real estate update. So he's not able to make it, so we'll chat about something else. Right now. I want to just say shout out to the men and women who serve and protect our community here the Two Falls Police Department. Big thank you. Good to chat God bless him up close in person personal yesterday with a couple of them, very
nice guys by the way. Yeah, I mean it was awesome to speak with them, but it was unfortunate that we had to speak with them. We had a little bit of an incident that needed their assistance on. But they, as always, as with every interaction with our law enforcement, amazing. Don't want to get too personal about what was going on, but there was an issue in our neighborhood. We'll just say yea and leave it there. Yeah again, I don't if you follow me on Facebook, I had
posted something you know what's going on in same with me? I posted it on my Facebook pages. I posted something much kinder than the thing that was crazy when because we I've never been one to call the police on anybody, but we had several people saying you need to call the police and at least reportedly may make a report. And then when we talk to them like, oh, we're very familiar, we know, we know, we know this person. Okay, well anyway we were special or something, but you know,
took care of business. Amazing, amazing, amazing people. Thank you. Yes, all right, Like I said, coming up at a moment, we're going to talk about an event that's coming up on October fourteenth. Bonus Hour again coming up here on Saturday, October fourteenth at six pm, we have a special event at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. It is a celebration of life for Dan Ferris. Again. It was one week ago today, Yeah, that he
passed away. Now, there are many people who when they found out last week that he passed away, They're like, I didn't even know he was sick. Dan was very very private for a public guy, he was super private and again it was really difficult. He didn't share with anybody. This has been going on for a little over two years. Yeah, a couple of years John and I were the only ones in the loop and even out of family for a time. His brothers didn't know. He hadn't shared with
him. We were even with him for the diagnosis with the doctors. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and they caught it early and they were doing what they thought would be curative treatment. And there were so many ups and then there were downs, and then there were ups and there were downs, and it was a roller coaster of the last two years. And in the midst of it, somebody ran into his car as well. He had a little black Mustang of his baby, and it was like, man, this guy
just can't catch a freaking know what is going on. And love dance so much and right now I'm staring at his chair. That's Dan's chair, that's empty over here, and it just feels so weird. Does so again. Many people have reached out asking, here's the thing that I would love for you to do. If you have some fun photos of you with Dan Ferris, things that maybe you work together, or it was just photos he had an event, if you could share those with me. We're going to have
a slide presentation thing that'll be playing during the event. If you've got a fun story that you want to share, send that to me because we're going to have some of those things, print it out for people to read, because everybody has their own stories. But I have learned a whole different side of Dan. There's a whole different side that we didn't know we met Dan. You know, he had quit drinking like fifteen years ago. Yes, so he's been a recovery for fifteen years and that was a big part of
his life. But there are people that we talked to from before that, and that was a whole different Dan that we didn't really know. But again, if you've got some fun stories that you'd like to maybe share, if you reach out to me, we're planning things right now. He had a special selection of music that he wanted played at this event because he was saying, I don't want people to be sad. I want them to sell bred I want people to come. And so he held literally is a celebration of
his life. And I'm excited that his daughter and his son are going to be here. Yes, and his brothers and his brothers and his nieces. Oh that's cool. So there's there's gonna be several other people. he doesn't even like us, but he did. He loved them as a whole bunch of very fun people. We had a chance to see them for the first time I ever did. We'd heard of them now for months, and I was like, you guys get a lot of living, you get a lot to up to, and they did. They did a really good job. But again, if you would like to be a part of it, this is an event that is open to the public, and there's going to be some appetizers and things like that. But the it's at the
South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. They're gonna have their kitchen open two so if you go, I'm gonna just get dinner there. You can still do that please, But it's going to be a celebration of life. It should be a really fun time. In addition to the brassholes, we've got a harpist that's going to be playing music. This was Dan's idea. This was Dan's request, and I don't get to say any more than we have a harpist. So this is again he was such a funny dude. He's got some
bizarre requests for this event. But it's coming up Saturday, October fourteenth. We do have some items that he had said, you know, if you guys want to raffle these off or somehow auction them off for a charity, I would love to raise money for a charity. So we're gonna have some of those things as well. Again, put it on your calendar. Plan to join us Saturday October fourteenth, South the Code of Military Heritage Alliance.
The thing that's really neat about that he was actually involved before that place even got a name, before it had anything other than here's a concept. You know, they were involved with Dan and with Sunny Radio. We had we had conversations and he was at the table with that. So I think it's really fitting that we're going to be there. And I reached out to them right away and said, if it's possible to have it here, that would be really really cool. So Saturday, October fourteenth, six pm, South

eighteen eighty two, the first telephone is installed in Sioux Falls. It was in the office of McKinney and Skogel Bank at eighth and Phillips. The lines at the time were exclusively local, but even so, by the end of that year, there were over thirty businesses
and private residences around town that joined in on the telephone network. In less than a decade, and after some initial local resistance, long distance lines would connect Sioux Falls to the rest of the world with hundreds of local subscribers.
