They've got a big grand opening tomorrow. Congrats Josh.
Now, first of all, let's tell people where the new location is, and then let's also let folks know, maybe they're not familiar what you guys do at West Sioux Studios. Yeah, for sure. So our new space is almost three times as big as our original space. We're at an eighteen ten West fiftieth Street, and so now we have three different shooting spaces. We've got a huge portrait studio. We've got a natural light room with
a massive ten by ten foot window that just let's naturalate pour in. And then our new one we have a theme studio, so we'll have different sets in there that kind of rotate throughout the year and they're always just ready to go. So what we do at West su so we offer studio rental by the hour, So Essentially, you can come in and we have all the props. We have all the lighting, the back drops, the seating, all that stuff ready to go. So for a photographer, you don't have
to invest in all that stuff and leaf on your own studio. You can just for an hour rent West Su and we have everything ready to go. You just come in with your model and your camera and you can start shooting. So we do that hourly. But then we also have a few membership options as well, so you can kind of buy in bulk and and save a little bit that way too. So I love that idea. What a cool, cool concept. How in the world did you guys come up with
this concept and what made you decide to start West Su Studios. Well, my wife and I started in photography. Maggie sweeps photographer. She's an award winning one of the top photogra resins two Falls, and we've started off and we were shooting on location and going to people's homes and shooting, and we
realized we just needed to get a studio. And when you're starting off, that's a lot of overhead, and so we really wished there would have been a place like this when we started, so we did some studio sharing and eventually just bit the bullet and got our own. But then the idea came, well, you know, now that we've got a studio and we've kind of gotten established in the photography world, what if we did something to kind of give back to the people that helped us out. So we opened up
Community studio. And one of the things that I love about West Su we're not just a place to shoot. We offer with my background being in teaching, we offer classes every month, we do styled shoots and events. We try to build a photography community around West Su rather than you know, just a place where you can come and take some pictures. You can do that too, but also it's a lot more that we offer. So we're pretty
excited about what the future holds for this new space. And you're doing an open house tomorrow, so let's talk about what time the open house is on Saturday and how folks can join you. Yeah, we're real excited. So we're going from eleven to two pm on Saturday. Eleven to three pm we'll be done, and each hour we are actually demonstrating a different shoot in a different studio. So starting at eleven we'll be doing headshot session in our big
portrait studio. At noon, we're going to move into the natural light studio and we're going to use both some hard natural light and then use some of the curtains and things to soften it up and give a light and airy, diffused look. And then we'll move into the theme studio and shoot on some reflective milar paper and just do kind of a fun theme shoot there, and
then we'll be back in the portrait studio at two two to three. So we'll have these shoots and we'll be demonstrating them, but we also want you guys to bring your cameras and come and try out the studio, try out the lighting, try out everything that we got to different props. We have the models there, they're already contract and we're working with them. So if you want to try out to pose, you're going welcome to jump in and
have the models do that. So we really just want people to come and see the studio, try it out, shooting it and you know, kind of get a phil fort Walls to be giving tours and signing up memberships and hourly rentals if you want to do that while you're there. Yeah, tomorrow as well. So yeah, we're kind of just excited to get more people out to the studio and see what we've built out there. I love that. What is the address once again? And what is that near? So
people wanted to they can stop buy and see you guys tomorrow. Yeah, So we are eighteen ten West fiftieth Street. It's right by Shoeman's right there on forty ninth. They're just off of forty ninth and Western, So we're just a few blocks from Interstate to twenty nine and Western and then just to block away from forty ninth and Western. Folks know Josh Sweets, the gentleman we're talking to, has a connection to this program because every morning Josh puts words in my mouth. He is with sou Fall's Fun Pages, who does the write up every day for this day in Sioux Fall's history. And I love the fact that you let me do that little blurb on the radio every day. How long have you been doing
this and where did that idea come from? Yeah? Definitely, So I love fou Fall's history I love history in general, and then the fact that it's here in sou Falls, and you know, I can relate some of these stories the places that I've been in or places that I go all the time. So I started compiling them probably about three years ago, and then I started during COVID actually trying to get a new story for every day of the year. And then in twenty twenty two, I started January first and
on my Instagram actually Soue Falls fund page on Instagram. I went throughout the whole year and I posted every day, and then I think right at the beginning of twenty twenty three this year, I'm very close to it. That's when we hooked up and started doing on the radio end as well on Instagram and Facebook. So it's been kind of a work in progress. We actually started doing classes as well with the community education, where we just spend a
couple hours talking about some of the just amazing stories. Sufalls has so much amazing history that people have never even heard before that I think it's really important to share. So yeah, it's it's kind of a labor of love, but I thoroughly enjoy it. Well, I absolutely love the program, So thank you for doing this. It always fascinates me that somebody had written all
this stuff down. I know history is behind us, but you can look forward to learning a little bit about Sioux Fall's history every day with this day in Sue Fall's history right here on this program for sure. One of the crowning achievements of Bishop William Hobert Hare in Sioux Falls was the completion of the Saint Augusta Episcopal Cathedral. The bishop had received funding from the wealthy Astor family years earlier, as he oversaw construction of All Saints Private Girls boarding School in Sioux Falls. Upon the sudden death of his wife, John Jacob Aster the
third donated twenty five thousand dollars to Bishop Hare. These funds were to build the cathedral in her memory. Bishop Hair named the cathedral Saint Augusta after his longtime friend and booster, Charlotte Augusta asked.
