It was on this day, July seventh, nineteen sixteen, that we get to say Happy Birthday to Joe Robbie. Joe Robbie was born in Sisseton and passed away in Miami, so
Sue Falls can't take all of the credit for his amazing accomplishments. But for a time in the nineteenth evanies and nineteen eighties, Joe lived right here in Sioux Falls, and what a time it was for him. Joe Robbie led a rather amazing life typical of those of his era. He dropped out of school to work during the depression. Joe returned to school and earned a diploma just in time to go fight in World War Two. He used his GI bill to earn a law degree, and that is where his life really gets
interesting. He spent some time as a deputy States attorney and a teacher at Dakota Wesleyan University. He served a term as a state congressman at Pierre and then lost in a bid to become governor. A move to Minnesota saw his legal career blossom. He was able to represent and advise a few different political movers and shakers, as well as represent state offices as legal counsel. Also, at this time he landed a contract representing the tobacco industry as a lobbyist.
Robbie then returned to South Dakota and Sioux Falls to run a struggling veterinary supply company and a laboratory known as Nelson Laboratories. It was there that he became close friends with another Sioux Falls icon, Joe Foss, who was the commissioner of the American Football League. Foss convinced Robbie to start a football franchise in Miami. That's right, the founder of the Miami Dolphins once lived in
Sioux Fall. South Dakota. Joe Robbie would continue his legal work, stay on the board of Nelson Labs, and actively own and manage the Miami Dolphins until his death in nineteen ninety. news of the day and it came in much hotter than expected. The data suggests resiliency within the labor market that will underpin wage inflation and inflation this year. Contrary to the ADP, the JOLTS data contracted more than expected, suggesting tightening conditions within the labor market. The takeaway for investors is that the FOEMC should be expected to continue hiking rates as indicated, but the end of the cycle is getting closer. The question that remains is how hard the landing will
be. Will the US tip into recession in twenty twenty three. Today's action will be driven by the non farm payroll report. If it comes in as hot as the ADP or even close, the S and P five hundred will likely continue its decline. If so, the Lyne to watch is at forty three hundred. The summer rally may continue if the market can't sustain that level of support. If not, the next major stock market correction may have just begun.
