We're gonna get all the details about that coming up here in just a bit, But first I want to remind you it's been I don't know a couple of days since we talked about this. This Saturday though, is
the Human Race. Yeah, the Human Race from Health Connect. It's an amazing event. It is coming up this Saturday at Sirtoma Park and we would love to have you stop and join us at Sirtoma Park Saturday morning. Give you the time and the details here in a bit, but I want to let you know this. The Human Race is a community fundraising event for now profit organizations in the Sioux Falls area. The Human Race features a five k
run and a one mile fun walk. Nonprofits invited by Health Connect to participate in the event our Center of Hope, Collision Faith Temple, Food Giveaway, Faith through Frames, National Kidney Foundation, Project car Sue Land, Child Protection Council, Toy Lending Library of South Dakota, and Union Gospel Mission of Sioux Falls. And I believe we've spoken with all of those. Are just about all of those here in the last month. I think we've talked to all
of them. If I did miss anybody, I apologize. I certainly didn't mean to. But you, the runner or the walker, get to choose one of these nonprofits to benefit from your registration fee. Cards dot com. Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show. Bonus hour Excited a visit right now with Career Services coordinator Kalie Rogotsky and she is with Southeast Tech. And tomorrow is kind of a big day because it's Build Dakota Scholarship signing day. And let's talk a little bit about what this means and how this works. First of all, what is Build Dakota in the
first place, So we kind of start there. Yeah, So Build Dakota is an opportunity for students to get a full right scholarship, so they attend one of the tech schools. They are partnered with an industry sponsor. So there's about twenty five different program at Southeast Tech has where a student can apply for a scholarship. They go through an interview process, they meet with employers. Employers do all the interviewing like they would if they were hiring for them
to come to their job site the next week to start a job. So they go through that interview process and then employers have the opportunity to extend the scholarship to students. We are excited this year at Southeast Tech and we've been able to extend scholarships to one hundred and fifty six students, which is our largest cohorted students that we've had so far with Build Dakota. That is awesome. That is an amazing number of people. And tomorrow is the big day
where they get to go. It's called signing day. Does that mean they sign they fill the paperwork out. Tomorrow's kind of the official day they do. So they will come to campus tomorrow morning at eight am with their industry. Sponsors support people in their family, so it could be parents' grandparents,
siblings. They'll come to Southeast Tech, will have a breakfast in a program for them, and then they'll go through and it will be kind of like a sport signing day if someone was signing on to play a sport at a university. They'll come in and they will also do a big signing where they'll sign off their build Kota contract and then during that time it's when they commit
to coming to Southeast Tech finishing their program. And then part of the Build Dakota scholarships is when you're done, you work for three years in the state of South Dakota with your sponsored partner for buil Dacotas. So's help you to build the workforce in South Dakotas while the students are also able to get their degree and come out with no debt. I love that. What a great
idea and the thing that's really nice about that. As a student, first of all, you're going to get your education, You're going to learn a lot of stuff, and you don't have a giant debtload that comes with it because it's covered. But you also have a guaranteed job, and it's for three years, but I've bet a lot of people probably stay even after the
three years. Yeah, it's a great partnership. They're also able to if they're a local sponsor, so if they're in the Sioux Falls area, they can work while they're a students so they get a feel for the company. Or if they go home during breaks like the holiday breaks or during the summer, we're able to start building that relationship and become part of that family within
the organization. So it's been a really great program. We're excited to have it on Southeast Texas campus and we can't wait to welcome our new Cohorta students on Friday. Now, most of these students are they coming from the Sioux Falls area or are they coming from other places in South Dakota. Are they all South Dakota students or any from outside of the state. They are coming from all over, So there are students from all over the Stata South Dakota.
There are students that will come from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, so there's a why variety of students that apply for the Build Dakota Scholarship. You do not have to be from South Dakota. To apply, you just have to stay in South Dakota once you are done with your program for at least as three years to help buildup workforce here. But once they get here,
they're going to fall in love with the state. They're going to fall in love with some other person, They're going to get married and settle down and plant the roots. It's a great idea. I think this is really really smart. Yes, we are so excited. It's been a fun program to be part of and just to be able to give students that opportunity and then also for them to feel like they're able to give back to the city they
live in and the state. So, if somebody would like to be a part of the Build Dakota signing day in the future, how do you get the information about the Build Dakota scholarships and how do people apply for this for maybe future events. Yeah, so if industry sponsors are interested in being part of Build Dakota, they can contact Southeast Tech and I would be happy to
visit with them. And if they are students who is looking to get a scholarship, it is a highly competitive scholarship and dollarship applications open on January first on our website, So anyone who reaches out to Southeast Tech, we'd be able to get you the information and would be happy to visit with you.
The majority of the students that apply and end up getting the Build a Coda Scholarship, are they students right now like they're in high school, just graduating and doing this, or are there are people who are no longer in school and still sign up for this. It is both. So there is a lot of students that are coming right from high school that are traditional students that will be starting at Southeast Tech. But then there's also a mix of students
who maybe has been out in the workforce. They may have worked in healthcare for the last fifteen years of their career and I've decided that they want to be in RN now and so they're working to apply for the builda Cooda Scholarship, have an industry sponsor who's going to sponsor them, and they're going to go back to school to do that dream of being an RN and have their school paid off, but they don't have the financial burden while raising their family.
