You're listening to the John and Heidi Show Bonus Hour. If you miss any of the program, you can find a podcast at the bottom of the page at Johnny radio dot com. Thank you for listening to The John and Heidi Show On a Monday. We've got a guest coming up in just a little bit talking about a leadership event for ladies that's coming up next Saturday. Not this Saturday, the sixth, next Saturday, the thirteenth, and we'll be chatting all about that, and I've got a link on our Facebook page if
you want to get all the details about that. Also, we've got this day in Sioux Falls history and we're talking about Fort Dakota today. See I peeked ahead. It's kind of a cool thing. Fort Dakota was in downtown Sioux Falls before it was downtown Sioux Falls. And anyway, we'll chat more about that coming up. And then it is a movie star Monday, and my guest today is from john Wick four. His name is Scott Adkins, and if you watch the movie, he was kind of a larger than life
character in the movie, almost unrecognizable as Killa. We're gonna chat with him coming up at the end of this hour. Thanks for listening to the John and Heidi Show. What a year. Excited a visit right now with Emily Lampkin and she is going to be in Sue Falls for an event coming up here fairly soon. As Leadership Institute has an event on the thirteenth of May.
That's a Saturday, and it's sneaking right up. And let's first of all, Emily, let's talk a little bit about what this event ends, who Falls is about, and then we'll kind of chat about your background as well, because I think this is fascinating. Sure, so great to meet you. I am with the Leadership Into two and I run their Women Leaders Series, and what we are looking to do is provide a fun opportunity for women to be together for a few hours. Everybody's leading in communities in different ways.
Some are office holders, some are working for their children's pta, some of them are just organizing the playground group in their neighborhoods. We want to bring them together, make sure that they have important skills that are useful for everybody, message development, fundraising, how to use social media and get together and create a network of like minded conservative women who are gaging their community.
And the thing that's neat about this there are probably some people listening who maybe have even said, you know, maybe I should run for office, you know, and whether it's on a state level, a local level, through the school board, doing something even at a school, but they have no idea where to even start. The thing that's nice about this event is you kind of give them an overview of here's all that goes into that, because there's a lot that goes into it, isn't there? There is? And
there's a couple of things we know about women and running for office. So I'm glad you asked that. Number one. They normally have to be asked at least three times to run, oh wow, and they second guess their
leadership capabilities and if they have the experience to do it. If you're out there listening and you're questioning yourself, I'm telling you ninety nine percent of the time, the answer is yes, you have the leadership experience and the capability to run, and with the right skills and then the right position, generally can win as well. We saw that our events in Grand Rapids last month.
A number of elected officials, but we also saw a lot of women who were candidates and a lot of women who weren't necessarily thinking about it, but I'm hoping give it a second thought after they're to gather with us. Very nice. Now again, the event in Sue Falls is coming up on Saturday, May thirteenth. It is from nine am to noon on that day. There's a ten dollars fee for registration. I'm going to throw a link
to make it easy to find all the details on that. But let's talk a little bit about your background, because I'm looking at this very impressive background. You've done some really fun stuff, haven't you. I have had a fun life and a fun career build with hard work and I'm still a mom,
but I have had a lot of fun in campaigns. But my real passion is twofold number one, promoting conservative women running for office and managing also to involve more women in their communities in campaigning and who they're electing to office. You don't have to run, which you sure should know what's going on, and you sure should ask tough questions that are important to you of candidates
while throwing a third part two for many moms. If you've got daughters, they need to see you lead because we're hoping to get them to lead in the future as well. And one thing we did this event especially for Saturday hundred, the day before Mother's Day, as an opportunity for mothers to bring their teenager twenty seven year old daughters with them and let them see what leadership looks like and let them be part of their moms. I love that.
And if they would like to bring their daughters, are their age restrictions for the event or can they bring daughters of any age? I generally say teens and above? Okay, very nice. And again the event is Saturday May thirteenth, which sounds like a long ways away, but that's like you know, coming very very soon. It's at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance.
I'm going to throw a link to make it easy to find, but the website is Leadership Institute dot org and then there's a bunch of stuff after that. So, like I said, I'm going to make it really easy. I'll throw a link on our Facebook page to make it super simple. But Emily, thank you so much for taking the time to visit with me, and I'm excited to have you come to Sue Falls and be a part of this amazing event. I appreciate it, and I appreciate Amber's help Poop in
organizing this in South Dakota. You all have exceptional female leaders and I love being with them. Thanks for your time. Thank you so much again. The event is coming up Saturday, May thirteenth, nine am till noon. I'll throw a link to make it really easy to find at Facebook dot com slash Sunny Radio and Facebook dot com slash Sioux Falls News. It was on this day, May first, eighteen sixty five that Fort Dakota is established in what is now downtown Sioux Falls. Following the events of the Amadon Affair and the Dakota Uprising of eighteen sixty two, the city of Sue
Falls had been evacuated and laid deserted for nearly three years. In eighteen sixty five, it was decided that it was necessary to establish a military fort in the region to encourage pioneers to begin moving back to the area. Fort Dakota would exist in Sioux Falls for only four years, being decommissioned in June of eighteen sixty nine. In that four years, there was not a single major incident of hostilities between pioneers and Native Americans in the region, proving the fort
completely unnecessary. In eighteen sixty nine, the eighteen fort buildings were sold to local pioneers and residents. Charles Howard, who was already running the Fort store, took it over and created Sioux falls first general merchandise store. Josiah Phillips bought many of the buildings, including the officers quarters, where he and his family lived the first year in town. The only memory of Fort Dakota is
written on a historical marker at eighth and Phillips Downtown. It certainly worth stopping and envisioning the area that once existed, not as a bustling center of commerce as it is today, but the heart of a nineteenth century Prairie military fort. Equity markets stumbled and bounced from support last week as earning season rolls on. The week's news is earnings are better than expected and core consumer inflation cooled at tenth compared to the previous month. The sad news is the PC prices fell one percent compared to an upwardly revised figure and are hotter than expected.
In this the FOMC may be unable to ease back on interest rate hikes, although they have indicated the next meeting would be the last hike for twenty twenty three. This week brings another round of earnings reports and key economic data. Topping a list of economic releases is the NFP report this Friday, followed by the ISM reports and construction spending. These data points are expected to confirm the
slowing in the economy seen by other data points. Among the most troubling is the Index of Leading Indicators, which has been negative for more than a year and is trending deeper into negative territory.
