You know this to somebody who loves who's a comedian in your own right, you know, doing comedy yourself you know that there's just how much laughter is a medicine for our soul. And so when we bring couples together for the purpose of laughing, there's just something that magical happens. And what's pretty neat is we actually are having magic a part of this year's event, because not only is
it amount of comedy, but it's also a night of illusions. With my friend Danny Ray, who had had the privilege of doing a couple of events with in California. He was on the Fool, Pen and Teller Show and actually fooled them nice and so he's going to be coming and doing us some magic. He's very funny, but he's also gonna be doing magic. great time at a mountaintop experience, but that's not where we live our lives, right, We live our lives on the planes of normalcy, and so We want to send you out with some resources and some things that can help you continue to grow your relationship and with hopefully a desire to make dating one another a little bit more of a priority. And that's one of the reasons why this puts this event on down is because as we take ourselves and our life so so seriously and a lot of times much more serious than we ought to. And so when we can just really begin to laugh at ourselves and say, man, what are we getting so serious about it? Just when you bring some levity into your life, it really can be a life changing time, and that's what we're hoping. We're
hopeful that these are catalytic events. You know, last month we did the Men's Summit. That's meant to be a catalytic event for men to make some good changes in their life. It's going to benefit them long term. Well, the same thing goes for Date Night Comedy. day in Sioux Falls history. It was on this date, February fifteenth, eighteen ninety eight, word of the destruction of the USS Main, reportedly at the hands of the Spanish Navy
in Havana Harbor, reaches our ears in Sioux Falls. Cries of remember the Main echo all across our country. In the short lead up to the Spanish American War, Sue Falls was no different. Volunteer soldiers began pouring into town
ready for training. A temporary camp was set up at the corner of tenth and Cliff, named Camp Dewey, after Commodore George Dewey, who was known as the hero of the Battle of Manila Bay, a recent battle recognized as a decisive victory for the US. Sioux Falls supplied over sixty men, including a specialized cavalry unit made up of cowboys known as Griggsby's Cowboys, named after
their organizer and commander, Sioux Falls resident Colonel Melvin Grigsby. Both the specialized unit and the voluntary Infantry would be trained and ready to ship out by the end of May. Two regiments were sent to California and eventually to the Philippines as part of a coordinated attack on Spanish forces in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Sue Falls would lose two young men in the short lived fighting of this four month war. Lieutenant Jonas Lean was killed in battle and Private Charles Eschels
died from diseases contracted in camp. Lieutenant Lean is the first US Service member from Sioux Falls to die in action. Lieutenant Lean's older brother and one time Sioux Falls mayor, Bury Lean, donated land to the city to create Lean Park in memory of his little brother's sacrifice. Sioux Falls surely thanks all of these men for their service and dedication to freedom, with a special thanks to
these two young men who paid the ultimate price to preserve liberty.
