You got all kinds of stuff, and I caught him very off guard today, so I said, we're
gonna wing it. I'm gonna ask you some questions. Are you ready for to be grilled by John Small to fly by the seat of my pants sometimes. Well, yeah, that a lot is a young man. No, it's amazing. I'm alive. The thing that I that I think is really nice. We have known Brent for several years. Like I said, not only is Brent an advertiser at the radio station, but he's our realtor as well. He helped us buy and sell our home, our daughter's home,
our friend Dan's home. I mean so many people and many, many, many others. And we were talking last week about how many homes he's purchased and helped people purchase and sell. And he doesn't even know how many because
it's a couple. It's more than a couple, it's a lot. Yeah, But what are some of the big questions that people ask you, Like, when people reach out and they're trying to figure out who am I going to work with for a realtor are there are there certain things that you kind of see over and over and over that people kind of place importance on. Yes, there are. When I start asking questions, you know, the big thing is to find out what the motivation is or why a particular thing
is important to them. Is do they know that it's you know, sometimes people want something but don't know why, or they don't know what they need, and so they need to just sit and talk to somebody and find out about some things. So sometimes it's the elderly couple who says it's time to come off the farm. I don't need this big house, and so then we talk about what's important to them. How can we make this a place that they can live in for many years, So it might be no step
homes, that type of thing. Sometimes it's just the fear they get caught up in the news but forget that they are living their life every day, and so they may put off buying a home. Especially young people sometimes put off buying a home but forgetting that they're paying rent every day, that every day that goes by is another day that they've lost and won't get back. And not everybody's ready to buy right out of high school or right out of
college, or even ten years later. But the important thing is that the realtor understand that, but also them that they do it in the time that works best for them for their family, you know, or just if they want stability for their kids in a particular school district. To really ask those questions and sometimes I tend to run on rather than listen. And I'm not a post or upset when people stop me and start asking questions, because that's how we get to the bottom of the needs, and we want to do
what's right for that home buyer or seller. Why do you want to sell? How does that help you? Where will you go? Absolutely well, and everybody's in a different place in their life life, you know, different timelines for different people. Like he said, not everybody wants to or even is in a position to buy a home right out of high school. There's some people who are My mother just recently moved two Sioux Falls and for the
first time in her life is not a homeowner. She's living in an apartment now because that's what was the right thing for her at this point in her life. And she sold her home. And it was really interesting because at first I was like, I wonder how she's gonna like that, because, like, you know, it would be hard for me where I'm at in my life right now to not own my home, like to rent, But where she's at, she's like, I don't have to think about Moen,
I don't have to think about Chauvelin. I don't have, and then she's in a facility where it's a bunch of other people that are kind of her age and up, and you know, so it fits right in and really enjoys that there are probably other people in their life right now where maybe the transition is. They had a whole gaggle of kids that were there, and
one by one they moved on because they have their own lives. So now they got this giant house and it's just you know, an empty nester couple and they maybe don't need that big of a house, and there are opportunities for them to find another family that would maybe love that home, and they could find something that suits their current needs. So when people are reaching out to you saying, hey, I'm in this transition, you probably have a
lot of people that are reaching out in transition times in their life. And I like the way that you make it very easy because when people, you know, for us, when we were telling you this is what we're looking for, you know, and there were some homes that we looked at that I'm like, I don't even know why Heidi put that on the list, but Brent was wonderful. I'm like, you can just tell her. No, if you want to, like, what are we going to look at
this for? But you made it so easy and it was such a simple process. So as people are going through those transitions again, for each person it's probably a little different, I suppose. Well, I think the danger for all of us is that we were not always listening to the other party. And so as you talk about your mother as an example, if you looked at your mother and said, well, I couldn't live in an apartment, I couldn't, well, but you identified the issue. She's in a
different place in life. She needs social interaction. So being in that building where she has you know, she's got people that are going to check on her. She can go play cards, she can go do whatever. They probably have group activities and she loves that way more than I ever thought she would. Correct. But you're you know, just like you said, it's where are you in life? And I have a friend of mine who's in
his eighties. He moved into a facility mostly to be away from mowing and snow and, knowing his frail health, thought this was the best thing. He's not super social outside of our group of guys. When there's a few gals in this community service group. But he doesn't like to go to the movies or any of that, but he likes the idea that there's people around should something happen. If something happens, there's security there. And that's sort
of what your mother really got there. Yeah, with security. If you can't price that absolutely, If somebody listening is maybe going to be going through a transition in their life where you know, they've got all this extra house that they don't need, or maybe they're having kids and they need more house and it's time for them to call a trusted professional in the real estate industry, I suggest Brent, Like I said, that's who we worked with.
