I Know Where I Come From
Come with me and my Minnesota kids to a foreign land...down South. Where pop is soda or Coke, women are called Ma'am, and sentences don't end in prepositions. Want to come with?

The past few weeks we had -30 below zero temps. True Minnesotans live to talk about the weather more than any other topic around. We have become accustomed to those "few days or weeks" of bitter cold and we get out the gear and carry on. While this is a story to entertain during our typical weather, please keep those in Texas dealing with winter storms and power outages in your thoughts and prayers. There are many places that you can donate to if you are feeling like you need to help. Solid Rock...
It has been pretty cold here the past week -20 degrees temps with -35 to -45 windchills, so and I am starting to feel the walls closing in on me...Cabin Fever. Between not being able to travel much due to Covid and winter, I am ready to hit the road. Next year at this time we will both be retired and able to do what we want without having to juggle schedules arouund with jobs. Can't wait for that to happen. Song Taking to the Road copyrighted 2021 by Susan Engstrom McAuliffe
We didn't travel far to have a bunch of great vacation days. "The joy is in the journeying and not at the journey's end."..Dorothy Colgan
I am always amazed at what the wilderness can give to me. Learning to listen to my surroundings, I am able to listen to my heart. A song from the MInnesota BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) Susan McAuliffe Copyrighted 2006
Northern MInnesota is thick with brush, bramble and woods. Take a walk with me, my dad and my Uncle Frank 50 years ago.
A lesson from my minivan.
Protests, violence, destruction....the past week in the USA
Looking back at personal safety class for Nurses and expectations of how my day should go

Silent Night, Holy Night.....the eve of hope to a weary world.
There are many types of friendships that develop over the years. There are those that are "out of sight, out of mind" and are the people who only think of you when you are together doing something, and there may be a little discomfort when you get together after a long period of not being together.. And there are those that you may not see often and yet can pick up where you left off from last time you were together. These are what I consider "Sacred Friendshsips". Everyone needs a few "sacred f...
Every home has a place where you hang out. Maybe a family room, living room or some other cozy spot. For our family, it is the kitchen. Many people crowded into one space. But it is the heart of our home, where stories are told and memories are made. There's always room around the table for all.
My son was home to visit from California. One of our favorite things to do is play guitars together. While I love teaching the grandkids music, it was quite relaxing just playing and listening to his instrumental, along with my daughter singing.
Pandemic ways to celebrate, memories of past Thanksgivings, Paving the wave for future Thanksgivings. We are making memories to pull up in the years to come.
My grandma was a wise woman. She raised her family during the Great Depression. Food sometimes was scarce, but she always shared with those who had less than her. She had the ability to always “make do” with what she had available. She passed that on and taught all of us how to “make do” when we maybe felt like we had less than we needed. In today’s world of lockdowns and pandemics, grandma’s wisdom could not be any truer.
All of us struggle with our troubles and demons. For some alcohol and drug addiction consume their lives. For others, it may be another addictive behavior. What a miracle when a person can turn their life around and walk a path of sobriety and help others stuck in the same spot. This is dedicated to my cousin's son, Chase, who lost his battle with addiction a few weeks ago. For every one who gets sober and has another chance to live life, there are many who lose the battle. Pray for the family a...
Today is Election day in the united States. It is one of the more emotional days for me as a voting citizen. This year it seems has been built up more than ever to go out and vote. Voting is one of the greatest rights we have as citizens of a free country. So go, before the day is over, and vote your conscience. It is your right and your duty. And remember what grandma said.."If you don't vote, you can't complain!".

I like Facebook and Social Media. I like to stay in touch with family and friends that aren't close by......except during election time. If everyone could just see things my way, it would be a better world for us all. I say that jokingly, but during this time, during a very important election, and where our country is going, it is quite true. I long to get back to pictures of new puppies and frolicking kittens, and families having fun. But for now, in order to make a more perfectly calm brain, I...
Many states have mandated the wearing of masks in order to get a handle on the spread of Covid-19. Whether you agree or disagree, there are factors that make it hard to function in a society of masked people. While trying to do our part, it helps if we can take into account that masking can cause a disability to those that are hearing impaired person.
Wouldnt it be great if we could all marry our best friend? HEre's some ramblings on life, getting married young, divorce and the past 41 years of marriage.
Monday mornings this past Summer have been filled with teaching guitar, ukulele, percussion and putting together music to any grandchild that is interested. Surprisingly, I have had multiple takers on the offer and we have had some fun jam sessions with 12-13 of the kids together on a Sunday afternoon barbecue. This recording was one of the older kids, first take and she did pretty good. What a blessing to be able to pass on playing and making music to the next generation.
Just today, it was reported our president and wife have tested positive for Covid-19. This podcast was set up before knowing the news. How many people were exposed to Covid during the rallies he brought to MInnesota? How many people refuse to heed the advice of the CDC regarding masking and social distancing? Our numbers are going up in MInnesota, over 100,000 positive cases and close to 2000 deaths. This is a little rambling on what we can do to maybe get Covid under better control. It is up to...

A gift from my mom, a rite of passage, learning that forgiveness, however hard, is a necessary deliberate act we must do in order to grow.
