Welcome into another edition of the Morning Espresso on the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. I'm Jason Longshore. Busy, busy day for the SDH Network. We'll be at Atlanta United training this morning. We'll have a training ground dispatch later today. You'll hear from Matt Edwards. You'll hear from Ronnie Dila. We have a special interview that you will
hear later today as well. Madison Cruz and I sat down with Ronnie Dila and talked about his coaching journey beyond the lookout for that later this afternoon. We've got World Cup qualifying Tonight. The Brewhouse Cafe is going to be packed. The US men's national team has a friendly. Argentina played Columbia tonight. Brazil Carlo Ancelotti his home debut this evening. They could actually clinch qualification Venezuela. They have a massive game tonight in Uruguay. It's going to be
a very hectic day on the soccer front. And just to add to the chaos, the club World Cup transfer deadline is today. There are deals that are in process that are not over the line yet. There are deals that have fallen apart, there are deals that have magically appeared out of thin air. It's what's going on today. Let's get caught up on the transfer deadline. Manchester City they got the deal done with Wolves for Ryan at Nourri, the left back, forty two million dollars, the Algerian national
team defender. Now they're trying to get two more over the line, Ryan Cherkee from Leone, the new Friend international. They want him to be available for the Club World Cup, and they're trying to get their goalkeeper room solidified a little bit more with Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Pettinelli. Those two are not done yet. At Nori is done and he will be part of the City squad for the Club World Cup. Juventus they have now confirmed that Egor Tudor is going to be their manager for next season. He
is no longer the interim they were waiting. They were looking, they were thinking they were processing other people that then ended up not becoming available because they stayed with the League champions and they decided to just stick with the guy who got them into the Champions League for next year. So now no interim tag on Egor Tudor as he goes into the Club World Cup. Chelsea they were trying to get the deal over the line with Milan for
Mike Magnon ahead of the Club World Cup. They said they're not going to up the offer any higher than fifteen million euro for a player going into the last year of his contract, and they have walked away from the table. Reportedly, at this stage there's still time they might come back to the table, but right now they have walked away from that table and Mike Magnon is gonna stay at Milan. Al Hilal they have taken a
swing for about fifty different players. It seems like I think they were gonna try to set up basically like a pop up shop in Paris. As they were negotiating with people, they thought they were gonna get Taylornandez. Now it looks like he's more likely to go to Atletico Madrid later in the summer. Al Hilal is trying to get in Golo Kante from al Itti had on a
short term loan for the tournament. According to the Athletic, that one has popped up out of thin air this morning, but it looks like they're gonna miss out on all of their big targets Al Hilal unless they get it some of these short term loans maybe over the line from players in the Saudi Pro League. At Leti. It doesn't look like they're gonna get Johnny Cardoso ahead of
the tournament either. They have finalized the permanent transfers of Clemont Lingle from Barcelona and one Musso from Atalanta, both or on loan with the club. Now those have been made permanent and Diego Simioni spoke to the media yesterday. This is a manager who's extremely ambitious as usual, but he is coming to this tournament to win this tournament. That is their club's objective, to start the new process
with this team. He talked about the pain of losing out so so narrowly to Real Madrid and the Champions League. They're coming to the Club World Cup to win it. I think they're a team to watch along with Real Madrid, along with Manchester City in this tournament that maybe have that chip on their shoulder and something to prove enter. They are trying to get a deal done with promising Valencia center back Christian Musquerra. He has one year left
on his contract. It's unclear on if they're going to be able to get that one done ahead of the deadline for the Club World Cup. Let's move over to the US men's national team tonight playing Switzerland and Nashville. Really, all the news is about stuff away from the team right now. I'm not even going to get into the Donovan versus Polistic family feud because you know, come on, really, this is what we're doing. This is where we're at right now with US soccer and the conversation around it.
We've got to stop trying to go viral with takes, and we've got to stop piling on with takes. That's a very bad habit that I think we have in this country when we talk about the game, there's a lot of piling on and amplifying of takes. And now this is really turned into one as the Christian Polisic conversation just continues to get twisted into different directions. The reports that are interesting here are two of them, in my opinion, about the US men's national team, about what
their club situations could look like for next year. Unis Musa. There is interest from Napoli and Antonio Conte, big fan of the player wants to bring him in to the Sera add Champions as they try to strengthen as they get ready for a Champions League campaign next year. Musa to play for Conte would be outstanding for him and for the US men's national team. And the big one is Matt Turner. Reports of a nine million dollar move for Matt Turner to go to Leon from Nottingham Forest.
Now he would be going to a club where Lucas Petri, the Brazilian, made forty five appearances last season. There have been reports of interest from other clubs in Better so maybe that opens the door for Matt Turner to be the number one at leone. Otherwise, if you're going from a number three or four situation to a number two situation, is that really better in this case? Hopefully there are really concrete plans and conversations about Matt Turner getting significant
playing time at Leon next season. We're just gonna have to wait and Seelion will be in the Europa League next year, so they're gonna have plenty of matches to play. Bad news out of the squad, Tyler Adams, He's gonna miss the night due to a foot injury. He is now questionable for the Gold Cup, which starts this weekend.
There is a game against Switzerland. Hopefully the US can look better for longer periods of time, and also better when those moments of adversity pop up like they did in the middle of the first half against Turkey, a where you have a really weird deflected goal at Cardoso's trying to play the ball out of too risky of a pass. It deflex in and then you kind of lost your heads for a while, gave up another goal, could have given up more, and never really got going again.
We'll see if they can handle things a little bit better tonight against Switzerland eight o'clock for the start time Conca CAFF World Cup qualifying. Let's take a look at where things stand. Second round ends today in Conca CAFF. There are still three spots out of the twelve who will advance to the third and final round on Duras Costa Rica, Curous out at Nicaragua, Pana, Maguatemalaja make a Surinam.
They are all into the third round Cuba tonight. They are in with a win or a draw against Bermuda. Bermuda goes in if they beat Cuba today. Trinidad and Tobago, they should be okay. They're on seven points, they have a plus ten gold differential. Granada is behind them with four points and a plus three gold differential. They're still alive. Costa Rica gets a result tonight in or Trinidad and Tobago. If they get a result tonight in Costa Rica, they
are in with it. With any result, Granada needs a loss for Trinidad and Tobago and to win at Saint Kitts and Nevis and flip the gold differential. It's not likely Trinidad should be okay, but we're just gonna have to wait and see on that one little bit. More of some drama here with El South. They are in if they get a result against Surinam, who've already clinched. If they lose and Puerto Rico they win against Saint
Vincent's and Grenadines, then Puerto Rico gets in. But they need El Salvador to lose and then Puerto Rico has to win. They've already gotten the better goal differential, so that won't come into play. Puerto Rico win El Salvador loss, it's Puerto Rico who goes into the final round for CONCA CAFF World Cup qualifying that'll start in the fall. Let's go to South America, Brazil. If Venezuela loses tonight at Uruguay, which they would be favored to do so,
Uruguay will be the favorite there. If that happens, and whoever wins between Brazil and Paraguay, the winner would clinch a spot. A draw, I think it's still all alive. A Venezuela win in Uruguay in Montevideo would pretty much lock up the playoff spot in seventh place, and they maybe could kick on a little bit higher begin of that in a second. If Venezuela lou Us again, which would be the more likely outcome, then that opens the
door for Bolivia, who lost in Venezuela last week. Bolivia hosts Chile, and Bolivia would be the favorite in that one. Ecuador they are in second place, they clench with a win at Peru today. Colombia they are feeling a little bit of pressure in that sixth spot. They're in Buenos Aires to face Argentina. If Venezuela wins in Colombia loses, then things get really interesting for the final two rounds.
For that last automatic spot and the playoff spot could be an intriguing night in South America and we'll finish up with the Italian national team in Europe. Claudio Ranieri has declined the opportunity to take over the Italian national team. It's a funky one because now Italy have to figure out their manager situation. We'll talk about that in a second. They really need to be perfect the rest of the way. They did beat Moldova yesterday, they got to be perfect.
Then they got to beat Norway when they host them on November sixteenth. That could be one of the biggest games in the last decade for the Italian national team. That would give them a chance to win the group and automatic qualification. Otherwise you're going into the European playoffs in March, and if Italy misses three straight World Cups, this would be one of the biggest shocks in World
Cup history. I don't feel like that's an exaggeration. So who's gonna take over if Ronieri's not gonna do it. According to a lot of reports, Stefano Pioli was the most expected person, but Sky Italia has thrown a different hat into the ring. Gennaro Gattuso. Gattuso on the sideline for Italy when they're not playing well, would be a must watch. You would need a Gattuso cam. Now. He just left his Croatian club Hadjak split. He left that club recently, so he is available. Gennaro Gatuso to Italy.
Sign me up for the Gattuso cam. I want to see this. That's gonna do it for this edition of The Morning Espresso, No Espresso. Tomorrow gonna be a busy day on the Atlanta media front, as there will be a press conference downtown talking about Atlanta and the World Cup and the plans for everything next summer. As we are really one year out from the World Cup coming to the United States and Mexico and Canada in twenty
twenty six. It is crazy to think about that.
