On this podcast, we discuss all smut, romance, and erotic music. Today we are covering a fantasy romance favorite of mine.

Acatar became like this big craze. It was pretty much getting like that already. It's already gearing up to be because after The weekend.

But anyways, we're cut the book we're actually talking about is Fourth Wing, the Fourth Wing by Fi Rebecca Yattles. Your Becca. I would like to start this by saying that Dane can That's what you'd like to say. I would like to say that. Oh, and also there's hella spoilers in this episode. Oh yeah. If you're like trying to catch Don't listen. Oh it's a really thick book too, so don't like think that we love a thick book.

Just like this is. It's thick and juicy. Yeah. And there's dragons. And they're yeah, you know we're big fantasy bitches in honor of our.

But anyways, to start this off As we do enter a brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yacht. Twenty year old Violet Sorengale was supposed to enter the scribe quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now the commanding general, also known as her toughest talons mother, has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become a man.

I would say that's like but I mean like the I mean then the time periods like the age is like the college age like high school is 10 yeah I'm saying like it's like for

But I also don't know this'cause I don't live there. I've watched I've watched UK shows and like off to college. to defend yourself, not die, not get killed by your classmates, not get killed by a dragon, not fall off a dragon, and then like turn in a turnpaper the next day. Can you imagine? She is rough and tough. And we like her rough and tougher. Yeah, and we wouldn't expect that because um as mentioned before, her body's like really frail and fragile.

So it's like um what is it called? It's like related to like the Els Donos Donlos syndrome. your bones you're easy to break, um you're easy to injured. So like the healers know her real And that's what she has, but she keeps on trucking because her mom told her her mom is like the head bitch at the school. And she's tough and honestly does not give This is true. Throughout the book.

Her mom's a bitch. Yeah. Mom's approval and a going throughout the book, she's always like, and mom probably thinks this, or mom probably she like really cares about what her mom thinks.

And um it's kinda sad. But anyway, so she's been training. She only had a couple months to train for Um, for the uh training college or the writers college, because I mean she was thrust into it, and these other people, these other candidates, they were um they've been working their whole life. They knew what they were gonna do. Yeah. She was with the books and

was a she was supposed to be a scribe like her father. Which was really interesting to me when I was thinking because I was like Her father and her mother meet because she describes like her father being such a good person. mom's just like a bitch and rough and tough and I'm like Like I don't see them b Really ever talk about an as a couple of couple. Talk about them as a couple, and her mom a couple times was like, and your father. And are they still? I'm rereading.

I'm reading two different and there's dragons and both, and I was like, Oh, I need to put one of these I started combining them. Like I was having dreams of them together. But it was just like so all of a sudden I was having like vampire dragon school like situation in my dreams. Fantasy

is fucking everybody's name. I I text Like these are some strong ass character gick names. They really are. Even like Violet and calling her Vines. I don't know. I really like that. Yeah, yeah. So like Violet, uh Zaydon calls her Vines. I'm looking at all my notes. Looking at all the stuff that I have saved so that I can make sure I'm covering everything. Okay, so anyways, sorry. I don't know. You're busy giving me shit. Okay, so, anyways, um, Violet Soringale.

then she has like the nickname violence and then my favorite name out of all a sharp ass name. Dane Atos. Two guys that fuck fucking. Yeah. So Dane Atos. And then when like when someone's mad at him he's like they're like Atos. I love it. Anyways and then there's Zaid and Ryerson. And there is her best friend Rannan. Rihannon. Rhiannon. Rihannon. Okay, yeah. Wait, is it Rihanna? I think it is Rihanna, because I was just listening to it.

I think that's how it's pronounced Ryonin. Rihannin. Rihannin. That makes sense because how it's stub. Yeah, okay. So she has her best friend Rihanna as well. And then you meet a bunch of other characters that are also in the school and they just kind of pop up here and there. And then there's also somebody later that's important. His name is Liam, and he's Zaiden sticks on her. So just starting from the beginning, um, Violet.

Famous writer. Yes, like bad famous. She's a badass. And um Violet's lucky enough that she's been a scribe, so she's been like her father. All of the rules by heart. They have like a rule book called the Codex, and it's it's like their rule book. It's their rule book. She knows it all.

She's ready to go in and risk her life because you have to do all these challenges. You have to fight You have to. There's like it's give it gave me like um vibes of a little Zodiac Academy because of like the training and like the stuff that they have to go through, but also.

So like when they had to do all these trials and do all this stuff to prove themselves. But literally every day. And then they had like the whole section that was dragons. But literally. Where there's all the different ones and stuff like that. But like every day of their life. It's not just like some random cards. Like every day out. Mm-hmm. And so basically they're trending to become what's called a writer.

Fields and dragons know that you're for them and y'all bond and and like the dragons can decide. It's it's like a debutante ball. I guess it kind of is because they have to choose you. They but before that, um they walk through this pit and the dragon. Yeah. Dragons kind of like sets you up and down and like they can kind of and like kind of see who's a little bitch and who's not a little bitch.

Fucking kill you. They'll kill you and they'll they'll see if you're some of them got what was coming. Yeah, they blow fire in front of you to see how. You know Violet also Was not making a lot of friends. Um, not making a lot of friends in school, like everybody knew. was and because of her mom she already had enemies because her mom is a bitch and was part of like this

there's like a whole rebellion and a lot of them feel like her mom killed their parents and did all this stuff so they're kind of wanting to retaliate against her. Right. So basically Um there was like a rebellion and Mom told the kids of the rebellion leaders like you can die or you can. Um writer. And so there's like this kind of split at the school between like rebellions and the rebellion.

and everybody from you know And they're like marked like for marked yeah they do have marks like tattoos which are like uh made it sound very sexy. Giving Holocaust. Yeah. But seriously They marked him. They straight up marked him like now everyone can tell that you were a part of this. Hahaha Adriel, I think that's the funniest thing you've ever fucking said on Sput the Hell. And I can't- You're welcome. Oh my god! Am I wrong? No! Just here for all of the the random pull-ins tonight.

Okay, so they were like w they're walking through like this like area with all the dragons or whatever and they can get picked and so they get to the end and they're like trying to decide like oh did you pick Her future dragons Yeah. So okay, so they go to all these classes, they have all these different classes to teach them how to be a writer and one of the classes um is teaching them like about the dragons and uh

When you bond with a dragon, you get like a power. Um Yeah, they like imprint on you. Like you get like I don't remember what they call it. Y'all's power together becomes our powers combined. Our powers combined. Um and everybody's is a signet. That's what they say. They get a signet and everybody's like, oh what's your signet? What's your signet? And like the more powerful y'all's bond and relationship and the more powerful the dragon, the crazier your signet's gonna be.

So um a lot of people keep their signet a secret because ruin them. Yeah. Um a lot of people actually die. One dude actually does because he has the memory and he can read people's memories. He goes crazy and it's apparently illegal, which I understand'cause then you're a weapon kind of thing. It was somebody with fire that like burn themselves. Yeah.'Cause it's oh what is it? That's like the thing, it's like almost like if you have like a power like as a witch that all of a sudden it comes up

to it like you can hurt yourself. Yes. That's that reminds me of that kind of thing. So um everybody gets a signet once but you have to like bond and actually earn the signet. You don't just automatically get the signet. So one of the professor's signets, the one that teaches show you things from his memory. Yeah. And so people can see vivid videos or whatever and so he's showing all the dragons that he has

That are ready for um that are willing to because they get to choose if they want to bond this year or not. And so he's showing off the different kinds of dragons, there's different colors. Um and then finally Gigantic. And tail morning star tail. Yes. And he's like, this is um Tan. This Nobody knows'cause you're not supposed to tell the name. So he Um, there's this dragon, but he won't be bonding. He doesn't bond. Because his rider died, and he was like really.

So the thing is once you're bonded, um, if you die Guys, dragons can survive without their riders, but riders cannot So if your dragon dies Um if your dragon is still. But he will never be the same again and most likely won't be down to bond later. And so his rider died, the specific black one but after the picture of the the black dragon they're like but this one's not gonna bond You're like that means it's you're like so obviously that's her That's what happened.

Um she's going through it at school. She's making friends, but also making enemies. Um there's people who Who wants to just fucking eliminate her? He's the worst. I he's probably worse than Dane. Okay, yes. There's Zaden Ryerson. Zaiden is a hot ass leader of the rebellion sun. Yes. And he m has made it clear that he wants to kill Violet.

Because um his dad. Yeah, so everybody knows that he wants to kill her. Yeah. And Violet's best friend growing up, his name is Dane Atos, and they've always had like this weird attraction. She joins him. Writing school is separated into four squads and f squads and sections. And it's like, think about it like in the sky, it's like a war, like so you have different There's wings, there's sections, and they're in the fourth leaders. Hence the name of the book. Yeah. Hence the name of the book.

I was kind of confused. the little sectors of it. I was like girl uh who's where I was like bitch who's where I don't know Oh yeah, and th they go into a lot of it. It's very military so there's like leadership. Um there's lots of different leaders and all Um so she's growing her bond And he's protecting her. Um she's not very like because she is frail fragile She is worried when it comes down to fighting and they have like days where they have to practice.

and use their knife. She's very good with her daggers. That's her thing. She has daggers. And she's strapped with her daggers. She throws Her sister gave her this like badass um armor that nobody knows about. She g had like when her dragon, her sister's dragon, Um it's scales. Like the year before she like shrunk them down and wasn't. Um under armor. So it's really good.

Yeah, and so her sister made her like a dragon sk her dragon skin to that's what I'm saying yeah oh sorry I'm fucking asleep this is why I adore dashing DCAP coffee anyways So um, so she's pretty much safe during the training and during the wars, but she's still worried. And so what she does is she uses her knock. And her wisdom and her knowledge has

helps her throughout like it helps her survival. Like the fact that she was like aiming for the archives and like wanting to do that. She's a big studier. I think it really helped her too because she's learned a lot and she retains all the information. Yes, she's like And she like has knows all the history. Um and then when she's nervous, she recites history. It's so cute. It is so cute. Um she'll be fighting and like reciting it.

So when it comes down to the days where they have to fight It's poisoning. Her opponents. Like pretty clever. She finds out I forgot who tells her. I think it's one of her teachers, wasn't it? Or gave like hints on something like that. Somebody told her where they can find where she can find who she's gonna fight the next day. And so she'll poison them with different poisons that

Like gives them like upset stomach or like things like that. Like stuff that's like she's not she's really she's actually really nice. Like she really there's some stuff that happens in this that she's like trying to save people that have done her wrong. Yeah. And she's not good at like killing people as it starts and stuff'cause

That's really not who she is. So like she wants to give herself the benefits And it's funny because like I don't want Time comparing Avatar and Fourth Wing, but it's funny because, like, in the first book, you know, you kind In love with Tamlin, and then it's like, ew, what the fuck? Tam tampon? Like you fucking hate him. And in this book. Like the way they describe her best friend Dane Atos is like very handsome and the best of friend and like looking out with for her and caring.

And I just I just I never saw him like that. I feel like he's a douche canoe and like the whole time like You really the whole time thought he was gonna be a douche canoe? I just didn't like how he spoke to her, how he talked down to her. He was like you're not good enough, you're not strong enough, you're not these things. He's like

Yeah, and she's like my mom's not gonna let me do this anyway and he's like well we can just escape like get you out of here and I yes best of intentions whatever but especially going back and rereading it he can suck it he is so disrespectful to her He's like, But yeah, he is like understanding. Reason she stands up to him is because there's one night um she's out and She's out in the woods and she sees like a gathering. And it's like the kids of the rebellion and Zaiden he's leading it.

And um, you know, they disperse and she runs into Zaded. And they kind of have like a weird flirty conversation, and this is where like the book basically starts. It's like her and Zaid's. It's like that fun like enemies to lovers flirting where it's like you're kinda picking on the other side. And you were scared at first because you thought Zaydan was gonna kill her, but after that conversation

conversation that you're like it it doesn't it did not seem like he was going to kill her. And like everybody in the rebellion wants to kill her and he keeps saying like no she's mom Mine to handle. But you really don't think he's ever gonna fucking handle it. So then you kind of get like, okay, there's like a flirty thing going on between them. Dane also senses it and Dane makes a move on her and they kiss.

She's excited because like It's like a lifelong thing she's waiting waited for and it happened and she She didn't feel anything. Um she's like telling her friends, her bestest friends. Anna Rion Rihanna. And um like I've waited my whole life for this and I And then he's like, Hey, we should talk about the kiss, and she's like, Okay, yeah, I agree. And he was like, It shouldn't have And

He's basically worried about his status because he wants to be where Satan is. He wants to be a wing leader. He's very like He's like the guy who ends up as general because you always like he goes by the rules and he puts his And his father's up there too. So he wants to just like follow in the footsteps he's Um yeah, and so starts flirting with her and you know they kind of have this weird bond and they help each other and Love.

Where the dragon and where you find your dragon. So the day comes up, you know, everybody disperses in a field, the dragon. But this Jack. Hip uh kill her, him and his Them like kind of talking. During the time where they had the viewing, the where the dragons were viewing them. Dragon, like a golden feather tail. Yeah, a tiny like tiny, tiny, like baby. And people were making fun of it because like nobody can ride that. It's taller than her. I'm thinking like a baby dragon. Right.

So they're out there and they're talking about killing Jack's like we need to kill it because if it bothers And stuff like that. Yeah. And so she's like, well, fuck this bonding. I want to save that gold. Yeah, she's like, you can't just kill a dragon, dude. And so in your head, you're like, Bond. Because of this, so they end up finding the golden dragon and they're gonna attack it and she steps in and they're kind of like laughing their Like, what are you going to do? Yeah.

Then she starts fighting them. Gold she's protecting the little gold dragon. Goldie. Yeah, little goldie dragon. And then Zaydan steps out of nowhere and he's watching because it's illegal for the It's part of the Codex. It's part of the Codex. They cannot step in there. For f when spee when two people or like cadets or whatever fighting. Yes. Well no no no during the what's during the bottom.

Oh, just during that? Yeah. I thought it was always because they weren't supposed to step I probably was supposed to step up. No, during the bonding. Um like the leaders can watch but they can't in the fighting because I mean they have to people try and kill each other to get the better dragon. Like stuff like that too so they want they want the most powerful. And so there's people out there um they're getting picked by their dragon and then flying and falling.

Like this is not like just because a dragon chooses you don't doesn't mean you're gonna make There's people dying out there trying to bond with their dragon. And it's an intense time and that's happening all around them. And she's trying, it's one one against three. Yeah. And she's trying to say this gold dragon. And Zaydan can't do anything. He's watching. He's it against a tree watching. And he's kind of helping her. He's like shouting things out, but he can't physically.

Get into it. He can get involved. And so he said he said I was allowed to make commentary. Yeah, he was allowed to make commentary. Exactly. And so He um he steps in, he's watching, and Violet, you know, st gets these guys down, stabs. she has a chance to kill them. But she doesn't. But she does not. and somebody is about to kill her. And what to do. Like if Zaydan can't do anything, he's worried. Um and then all of a sudden Morning Star Tales shows up Down behind her.

the fuck out of the Yeah. And then uh Jack the the Jack the leader, the asshole Jack Off. He Jack Off runs away. Yeah, because he's a little pussy. Yeah, he runs away and things, but of course you're gonna run against the thing that can actually kick your ass. Yes. And so The only Hello little one. I am I am terrible. I am Teranock Dot. He has like this long ass name, but he's like Terran. Ter Nanoc. Yeah, he's like, you can call me Ter. And um, then all of a sudden, And I'm

Like well as she so they go she bonds with the black dragon and they all go back or whatever and they have to present their dragons. And so like this little golden dragon. Like coming along, but she she hasn't talked to her yet or whatever. So you're supposed to you have to go and tell them like the dragon's name because they keep it and it's proof that you've bonded with the dragon because they tell you their name. Right. And then as she's like doing it, and her mom's of course like doesn't

badass dragon could possibly be attached to her daughter. Right. So she's like, you need to double check. And so basically Um Tairn has like adopted Andarna, the tiny gold dragon, and so they protect her. Druck is though, because no one's ever been bonded to two. So Violet not only has the largest, scariest draft. BYE um two dragons. Yeah. And nobody has ever had that before. So nobody

And dragons are in charge. Humans are not in charge. So now the dragons should be really imagine us trying to boss a bunch of. So the dragons. The dragons have to have a meeting about it. She's like, well I don't wanna choose she's like, I don't wanna choose between you guys. Like I hope I can, you know, have it both. But like they've never in a trillion gajillion years had to deal with this. Have a meeting, and it turns out she can have two. But plot twist, bitch, who is Terren's

Yeah, that's right. The dragon has a mate because they deserve love too. Yes. This is a double love romance situation. The mate. The mate is fucking Zaden's dragon. Was it Segale? Segale. So Segale is a gigantic blue dragon who is just fucking beautiful and made it to tear. What had happened? So what happened? So Sadan in his mind was concerned so significantly. Told Tan to mate to bond with her.

now what else they're all like now they're all completely linked because seagale and tearn are mated and they don't like unmate like they are made exactly so if tern diesel Dies and if Sega dies, then Sane dies. So by so they have to make sure everyone survives. So by proxy. Violet's life is now connected to Zaydens and Zayd's is connected to Violet. I love it so much. And so now it's like, well fuck if she dies, he dies. And he's like, I better start helping. So they have to protect each other.

Um and like they act like it's a burden. They're like we're all connected, but forever. Yeah, but you feel like low key So one day He decides like oh I'm bringing on I'm bringing on someone to watch you. Yeah. Uh because she gets attacked after. Some of the unbonded people like straight up sneak well, they don't even sneak into the room. One of the

lets them lets her lets them into her room. Correct. And it ends up being one of Dane Atos's friends. Like it's like a friend friend. You know what I mean? Like they had like had like something the year before. It sh is a friend and so

when she's like, No, I saw who it was, Dane didn't believe her and Dane's signet is if he touches your brain, he can see He can take your memory. He can take memories. And she like he was basically forcing himself on her to see the memory because he didn't believe her. Yeah. And she was like No. No. She's like, stop, don't, like, don't touch me. And so nobody believed her, but then finally, like, Taryn in It show like part of the memory to the dragons. Yeah.

And well, she died. Yeah, she died. And then it made Dane look like a s like an idiot. And then, like, obviously, why would she ever trust him? Like, you picked her. He keeps just looking bad as a friend. It's just a bad thing. The whole time. And on top of that She's now building a relationship. Yeah. So it's it's all it's just like all bad news.

Somebody, somebody on watch, like a guard on top of all the schooling, this guy named Liam gets. Guard Violet and he's a little bit of a little bit of a little says like I owe I he says I owe Zaiden my life. I would do anything for him. Why? Yeah. She's trying to figure out in her head like what did he do that was so fucking great because Liam is literally giving up his time and his life. Yeah, and they become best friends.

Um which I also love. Which I all their friendship is really beautiful. I almost think he has a crazy. In some of the writing? I always f I always got like brother ish things. No, they were definitely flirting at some points. I feel like. But he would make like these little wooden dragons, he would like carve out the everybody's And he was like a really intense. Um he was her year, but he was one of the best fighters. So that's why Zaydan trusted him. But love is when you look at the fan art

Obviously Zaydan's gonna be sexy as fuck. He's gonna be dark and sexy as fuck. Dane As we like them. Yeah. Dane, good looking. Brown hair. Like basic He gives me like preppy vibes. It's giving you know what it's you know what Dane's giving? Um who's the guy from the Hunger Games? Like he's like the He's like the from the Hungry Games that was like her PETA? No, P no no no the guy who's her friend from back home Yeah They have like the same storyline kind of

So and the looks. And the same kind of vibe. The best Liam, he's the sexiest looking out of him. Blonde blue eyes, like goes to go. I was waiting. Liam did not get to. And I was waiting for Liam to have a love interest to fuck around. Liam is definitely me vibes. Oh yeah, I'm not a big blondes person. Well, specifically I Phil's hypocritical as a blonde. Um yeah. I'm a darky. Liam. Liam was the hottest in my opinion. Yes! It also looks like I could be rated.

Like she's like, Um Trials and tribulations. One night during one night during training Um, Zaiden and Violet start making out. Like they have like this weird attraction, they start making out it's everything. And they were gonna do it and he I can't do this. And she's like, what? He's like, I can't do this. And so They stop and I mean they both are thinking about it the whole time. And because they are bonded. Everybody they can all talk to each other through their heads.

So can you imagine like just having animals in your head and then like another hu like it's so just like random things being able to just talk to you and be like, Could you stop? Throughout this whole book there's like so much banter between And then also Zaidan flirting with her in front of everybody and they're And software.

Okay, so one night during one night during training, um, Zaden and Violet start making out. Like they have like this weird attraction, they start making out, and it's everything. And they were gonna do it and he's like, I can't do this. And she's like, What? He's like, I can't do this. So And I mean they both are thinking about it the whole time. And because they are bonded with everybody, they can all talk to each other through their heads.

So Their relationship is growing, they're still going through school together. And one night Fucking do

Do the dirty- Oh wait, wait, wait. First she gets her signature. Oh yeah, yeah. So she finally after training Tiernan decides that okay, she's ready. deserves this fucking segment. She really has worked her ass off. all this like anger and emotion. Light. I know, so she is a wheelchair. So she's a wielder of lightning and thunder. She stormed! She's motherfucking storm. So that happened, that's resignant, it's dope. Um and then after Time for the But the thing is is when she It drains and Death.

And lightning, it burns her. It drains her and it heats up her body to the point where she's probably about to burn herself like the person. Um, they finally fucking have sex. They do it, and it's funny because during sex, they like. She makes thunder happen and it like breaks storms and shit. Imagine having like sex that is so hot that like you actually change the weather. Like stuff like that. Like you like oops, lit a house on fire. My bad, but keep going.

All of their relationship is happening. He's apparently always loved her. thought of her. He's always wanted her. He's like said something I can't remember what it was Have you ever thought?

and stay away from you. Right. Or something like that. It wasn't like that they were attached because of that. It was like that he wanted which we find we knew from the other end that he the whole reason was because he was thinking that is why they're even linked in the first place. Right. And so Violet had an older brother that was like

He was like one of the best writers. He was one of the best writers. His name was Brennan. He's a fucking legend. Yeah. He's a fucking legend. Everybody always compares her. He's like when they meet her, they're like. Brennan was blava. I'm sorry about your brother. Oh Brennan this. Oh Brennan this. And then it's like Mira this. So it's like she's never good enough. Yeah. Uh they after they have sex, like Dane I mean not Dane. Um Zaydan's gonna graduate soon. And

He's gonna be sent out and so they're getting closer, they're getting closer and like eventually in a couple weeks they're gonna have to split apart. But the good thing is is dragons can't stay away from each other for more than five.

So they have to come back. They have to come back and let them mate and then like And then like you don't have to buy airplanes'cause you have a dragon. One of the best parts is like they can sense when the dragons are mating and they their whole bodies like heat up. Like heat up, light on fire.

And so like that night when that happened, um, she went outside and she saw Zaydan fucking smoking a joint because he's like, oh, this this helps take the edge of our entire situation.
