EP 55: Scarred Wolf by Elizabeth Blackthorne

affirmation yeah what way know I needed it I I don't know what it was for even but it's it's nice to see people win you know especially when I'm the one winning that was basically like the quiet part you didn't say at the end of that statement well we could have left it quiet that's not what we do here no Chelsea you don't understand the point of our podcast we're 50 plus episodes in you're not new here oh my God hey hey guys welcome to smut Club if you are new here or if you're not new

here welcome regardless of your status I'm Hannah and I'm I'm Chelsea I'm sorry we're really uh the way we are today I don't know what the energy is I was like what is this energy I don't know this is the trying our best energy that is it well cuz I think there's something to be said like we started this podcast because we love it and have fun doing it and because we would be talking to each other about books at nauseum anyway so yep just seemed like an an obvious

trajectory um yeah and we have full-time jobs and other lives and children and pets and you know sometimes when we show up we're like we're here we read the book yeah looks like we made it so looks like we made it yeah I was actually going to sing it first and then I was like I would have loved that cuz I think I've told the story about going to college for kids over the summer it was like one of our like summer program options and then my parents would always

uh have me go to like the after program because they worked as well um and so like there it was just a free-for-all of like Elementary age children running around right and someone and this was back like I would bring my CDs and they had a little karaoke boom box with remember the karaoke boom box I would bring my Shania Twain album like all these kids are like playing dodgeball and I'm sitting in the corner with the boom box singing Shia Twain karaoke with the passion of someone who

like their their man left them and took the dog but I'm just like seven singing my heart out and I W like I can't imagine what the adults in that room thought looking back on it kids are wild like kids are unhinged in a different way he's the best they really are they really are well I told my husband I was like our son is I've been calling him the master of my n Mayhem because whenever I look over like he's just doing ridiculous [ __ ] that like it's not harmful right but like um his

little Cheerio cup like the little kids like the stereotypical kind of like the swirl top to keep the Cheerios in and bers just kind of jam their hand in there I went to pick it up to put Cheerios in it there was like an action figure in there nice and I was like last time I saw this I just filled it with Cheerios it is now empty of Cheerios and has an action fate like what he put his spoon in like a maze that I couldn't get out and I'm like how are you doing this that's awesome good

work you don't have the motor skills good work for no I love it he does have the motor skills clearly you're underestimating him underestimating him I was going to let you have it I wasn't going to say [ __ ] well I heard it and then I couldn't unhear it and was like well that's fair okay so once again welcome to smut Club um this is the podcast where we review romance novels of uh varying qualities and Hannah actually chose the book for today what is today's book

today's book is the scarred Wolf by Charlene heart heart Nady heart what what was that it's h a r t n a d y heart heart NY heart oh oh I get it she's like oh no but well honestly before we got into the last name when you said the scarred wolf and yes I we hear it we know it's a thing um I paused for a second was like how many people do you think started reading that book thinking it was the scared wolf and we like this is not the book I thought it was that's not it no no charl

Charlene is not she's not bringing scared energy there's very little fear from this wolf he's got a lot happening I literally know nothing about this book so I stumbled upon one of her other series that's about Dragon shifters and was just kind of like reading through some of her other stuff and Came Upon This one and I so the premise is a little bit different and I was like you know what we're going to do that because my other options as previously discussed before

we started this morning was a motorcycle club romance that I can't figure out how to outline because there are so many Side characters and um a book called come for bigfoot that I am unwilling I'm un I'm unwilling I'm like full stop all right but like okay come for Bigfoot come for bigfoot so Hannah I do want to remind you we reviewed a book called The Haunted vagina allow me to explain I yeah allow me to explain so this book three girls are going on a camping trip high school girls going on a

camping trip come for bigfoot you say this book not come for bigfoot yes is three girls going on a camping trip with some guys from school and one of their dads they go out into the woods our main chick just immediately bangs dad just immediately bangs Dad we love a confident Queen there's a lot happening there good for her I'm glad she's happy um but then the next day he's like please quit looking at me like that she's like like what he says a [ __ ] in heat and as soon as I read that I was

like I no the dad said the dad said that to the girl that he banged the night before I was like no I don't I and then it just gets progressively worse and we we get into a lot of issues with with beastiality and other things okay so like there is an actual Bigfoot There's an actual Bigfoot and just fun fact if you want to read this book um Bigfoot's name is Leonard it caught me off guard and so I don't want you to be shocked in the way that I was shocked by the fact

that Bigfoot's name is Leonard what name would you have chosen I don't know I guess it it didn't occur to me that there were multiple where they would need names well we find out at the end of this first part that there are multiples because the girls try to escape and then they are caught by multiple bigfoots and then separated and that's the end of the first one so do all of the men on the camping trip die do do the bfot just like take the girls and then it's literally the

girls are hanging out the guys are gathering firewood and then they wake up in a basement so I feel like we could review no okay no no I would have to leave out certain things because like I'm not I'm just not going to say those words and be recorded we would have to leave out so much that like it wouldn't we would lose the plot you know I respect that thank you no I I understand that and also when you were saying like all of the side characters in the MC book y I feel like that is a

little bit of a pet peeve of mine like I don't mind when you're reading a book and you're like oh the side characters were interesting if a book about them dropped in the future I would add it to my list but that feels so different than when like you're like reading a book and you're like oh they are world build for the like 20 Other Side characters and I can't keep everyone straight nor do I want to yeah it's too much yeah you're like oh this is not what I was looking

for I just wanted story sprinkles of everybody's history and it's hard to know what's important for this book and what maybe is coming in a later book it's just a lot to keep track of well okay we may have talked about this before um Suzanne Wright uhhuh um who we've reviewed a couple of her par normal books but she started doing contemporary romance um which I thoroughly enjoyed but I read several books out of order cuz I didn't realize there was an order so I read one book and was like man

there are a lot of Side characters that they're referencing like I'm supposed to know who they are and then I realized it's because the parents of the couple in the book I was reading each had their own so that's where all of those side characters had been developed was like like the the main dude his parents had a book The like I'm like oh this is this is more yeah than I like had put together it's a tangled web honestly maybe even only one of the it's been a while since I've read it

even if it was only it was just like so much World building within it that it yeah it lost it a little bit for me because I I could not keep all of the side characters straight and that's like one of the things with her other books that I've read I did enjoy the side characters and the books that they got after but in this one there are like two Side characters like there's not it's like your main folks the villain a best friend and that's it like there's not and so I mean come for

bigfoot didn't sound like it had that many characters listen frankly nope I'm leaving it okay like that you're like hey Chelsea if you want to the book you can [ __ ] read it okay you read it I almost put I almost put it in my car to be like you we I don't know if we should burn this or Sage it it's not mine so I can't burn it but yeah I was maybe check with the person who were they gifting it to you or letting you borrow it I don't do they want it back I'm going to give it

back you're like if I bring that book if I leave that book in my house I will have to burn so much Sage yes oh it'll never be the same but like that's so that's one of the things that I sort of didn't like about this book was that it there wasn't more like richness in it but we're going to get into itar we'll get there we'll get there so we open with Jackson he is witnessing his mother's murder oh he is very young he's covered in blood he's screaming it's really bad and he sees his dad

partially shifted attacking his mom um they are wolves wolf shifters and his dad turns and like attacks him and like he has big open wounds on his chest like did his dad go feral well so then he wakes up and he's covered in sweat and he is really angry that he can't remember what happened because that did happen but it wasn't his dad he knows it wasn't his dad but he doesn't no like he can't actually remember so he has these nightmares in which his dad is killing his mom and

hurting him but it was it wasn't his dad so it's just a nightmare but all that really did happen so um he then a little while later he's in a clearing with his dad and his uncle and the dad is the alpha and he's telling Jackson that he has to kill um the last Living member of the family that killed his mom so they know that the moon family killed his mom and so this is the last of the line Jackson has to go kill that person just to avenge yes to avenge mom and they also killed the the previous

Alpha and that's how his dad became Alpha um and so his dad who did not kill his mom his dad who did not kill his mom dad the alpha when his mom was murdered does that matter no he came into the alpha after after she was murdered so sorry I may have accidentally put more vodka in my tea than I realized and I'm already realizing I was like oh I don't have these characters straight I feel it perpetually I love it a strong Breeze gives me a blush vodka definitely does same um so

you know Jackson is trying to refuse or delay because the this is a a pre- wolf is what they call it so shifters come into their wolf at age 25 so this wolf is a human is like as weak as a human and he's like I'm not going to just like go around like that that's [ __ ] up like I'm not doing that yeah I'm not going to like kill an innocent relatively right right well he is convinced this person is evil but he's still is like that's against my honor to take out someone intentionally

take someone out who's weaker than me like that's really messed up I respect yeah Jackson in certain ways is very likable with that stuff so his dad is like not having any of it so his uncle finally steps in and says listen I developed this drug uncle is the Healer for the pack okay he said I developed this drug you can give the pre wolf that will prevent them from ever shifting so it's not going to kill them in fact it will probably be more torturous for them

because they will never access their wolf but they will you won't kill them and so um oh that'd be weird to just like still have your wolf but never be able to access it yeah like it's in there but you can't shift you can't communicate you don't get access to the the power so okay the uncle is disabled he he walks with a limp um and is Dad's twin and should have been Alpha but because he was born with a disability um he stepped aside so his brother could take the role and Jackson and the uncle

are very close cuz after his mom died his dad kind of kind of did go a little bit feral and just could not be there for him and so his uncle really filled that role so uncle is keeping the peace and offering an alternative um and and so basically they have already killed the two wolves that killed his mom they already killed her pre killed them previously um and so now they're going to go after the child who was not there um and is an adult now but um well that

feels unfair it's pretty [ __ ] up yeah and the the concern is I don't remember if they say it in this beginning part but the concern is that they were two very powerful Alphas um that killed his mom and normally two Alphas would not be allowed to mate like two Alphas that powerful would not be allowed to mate because they could make a double Alpha and we don't know what that means exactly but everybody's real freaked out about it like we don't want that um thank you for telling me that we don't

know what that means cuz as soon as you said double Alpha I felt you saw it I felt it I was like what's a double Alpha you're like I don't [ __ ] know Chelsea so um Jackson feels better about it he finally agrees like okay let's do this so then I forgot we're from Dual points of view so then we we come to Everly she works in a care home like a Memory Care assisted living facility um she's a a good one yes okay well sort of so she is talking down a dementia patient she's

very kind very thoughtful um she winds up getting scratched up pretty badly um and she gets a phone call as she's going to clean herself up after that she's in serious debt um she used the money from her parents' life insurance to get to buy an apartment MH um but she makes very very little money working as a nurse in this care home and so it doesn't cover her daily living expenses even though she doesn't have to pay rent um and so she's like freaking out and

then when she finally looks down to like clean up her cut it's like pink instead of open healing itself already yeah and so um she's like um maybe I am an insane person like that's the only answer so she doesn't know who her parents are in that capacity no idea so she is thinking that because she was on the phone with these debt collectors and like owes them a [ __ ] ton of money by a certain point that she was just distracted and like yeah like oh I guess I didn't get

scratched up as bad as I thought I did right she like talks herself down basically um she rationalizes it she does she does so then we go back to Jackson and he is um stalking Everly and he's like shocked that she's a woman first of all he was like was not expecting a She Wolf but that's fine like whatever and also let me guess wasn't expecting her to be smoking hot yeah you're you got it so um he is he's reminding him CU he sees her going to work in this nursing home and like

interacting with people and she seems really kind and he's like she doesn't seem like the evil villain that she's been made out to be but he's like obviously she's like stealing from these old people that's what she's doing like she's running a scam like that's the only answer um and it is fasc how we all rationalize our mental gymnastics dude yes yes and especially in a lot of romance novels like you'll like it'll take three sentences and they will change their entire trajectory yeah

and you're like that what yeah how do we get from a to be yeah we we really feel good about that that will not hold up in a court of law Jackson doesn't give a [ __ ] cuz he's like so mad and he feels all this pressure to like prove himself to the pack so even though it doesn't feel right he is like willfully ignoring all of his instincts how long ago was his mom murdered I mean uh 25 years ago I didn't say 25 mhm 25 years ago oh mhm lowkey that's longer than I was

expecting yeah very long time so he's about 28 and Everly is about to be 25 so he's like she's just biting her time until she comes into her power and then she's like really going to [ __ ] stuff up um so uh the power she doesn't know about right okay so he decides he he's like uh he smells her she smells amazing like on the wind or whatever and he's like she's trying to play me and it's like she doesn't know you're there what the [ __ ] are you talking about Jackson the world does not revolve

around you my guy no he's very very egocentric he cannot see outside de it so he decides to follow her while she's going for a run and he's going to like jog past and inject her with the drug um while they're out so um the uncle warned him that the drug would trigger a seizure and so he needed to be really careful not to be noticed by any humans and stuff so um he's trying to stay focused on the plan but obviously she's super SP super hot and her scent is spicy

and so he starts calling her evil Spice in his mind which he does through out he like changes the spice I I like at one point he'll call her paprika [Laughter] no that would have been better I liked that better no like witch Spice Girl name right he just I would preferred he just call her cumin at some not nutmeg I see no issue with it like hey Cayenne what it [Laughter] do just saying a um can we also talk about how like [ __ ] girl fashion is 1,000% back and I'm like oh I was not prepared

for that no so we've been watching uh one of the newer Seasons of Love Island yeah and I looked at my husband and I was like is this a theme night and he's like I think that's just their clothes Chelsea and I'm like oh see I really I really thought each of the girls was going for a different sp sp girl and he's like nope that's just their outfit we don't understand Jen Z to be clear obviously obviously I was trying to say use Riz in a sentence recently and my

husband looked at me and was like not like that nope that's not how you use that word no no I was like you know there is some jenz sayings that I have down which I also I'm like I'm [ __ ] like I'm 32 you're not like we're not that out of touch not decrepit or anything no I I was literally texting with my cousin yesterday and was like listen I consider myself a relatively techsavvy person but I also feel that each day that passes there's like another new thing that I'm

like nope not learning that yeah and I was like and next thing you know I'm going to be my parents who use voice to text for all text messages for Google searches while we are in public like we will be standing in line at the grocery store and they are like voiced to te I'm like no stop stop just what are you doing just like sh like please just like you have to hold it a centimeter from your mouth and Shout to be to like be heard over the peripheral noise is this

really the best way to do this no and yet I feel myself getting closer to that I'm tiptoeing well so yesterday I like sat down at work and I was like like oh my God my back really hurts I'm like what did I do I unloaded the dryer before I left for work yesterday and I was like ow LS my back really hurt on Thursday but it's because I tried a new workout on Wednesday and I hadn't paid attent like where it was it was a really deceptive workout cuz it was like you're going to

do one kettle bell swing take a breath you're going to do two B two kettle bell swings take two breaths you do this up to like 20 oh Hannah that is 210 kettle bell swings I was going to say that's a lot of kettle bell swings when you add it all up well I like made it to like the 10 and I was like we got this and like when I made it to round 12 I was like this is I'm feeling a shift but I've committed at this point I finished when I start yes and then I thought I'd

been using the 15lb kettle bell but I was using the 25 lb kettle bell the whole time no wonder your back hurtt like I like picked my son up out of his crib and I was like oh my God my hip flexors I was like I I can't do the stairs you sit on your butt and like scoot up I've done that I managed to make it up but it was a it was actually when I had to take my son back up to his crib for his nap a little bit later I was like I'm you can crawl I was like I can't carry you kid

I'm sorry you can make it buddy didn't math right and now I'm too sore yeah at least you did something to like I unloaded the dryer all I'm going to say is I have taken things out of the dryer and just like you just breathe wrong yes and yeah and you're like I don't know what I did yep but and I think that's why cuz you're not like whenever you're picking up a laundry basket out of the Dryer no one's like lift with your legs that like right like when you're working that's a good point

when you're working out you're focused on your form but when you're taking stuff out of the dryer you're just taking stuff out your it's not that heavy it's fine yeah and then that's what it is and then mistakes are made right try better form next time this is our PSA for the episode please be intentional when unloading your dryer and pay attention to the weight you're using when doing kettle bell swings you're welcome yeah okay where we live to serve so he is following evil

spice oh not paprika yes right he's following evil spice so and is noticing she's hot and not and he's planning on injecting her but knows that she'll have a seizure so he has to be mindful yes okay so just as he's about to get to her she falls like trips over nothing and um he trips over her and drops the syringe and so she's like oh my God I'm so sorry like that I don't know what happened and he's like I know what happened like all wolves when they're close to shifting for the first time get

really clumsy as like their wolves and their humans start to like come together um but he's real pissed about it so he's a dick that's why I'm going to blame my like what I'm going to blame my clumsiness on in the future is my my impending shift I'm about to shift for the first time sorry can't help it it's just a thing you you get it you know how it goes about to shift you understand um and so um but he's real he's really pissed about it yeah like he's really mad that he missed his

opportunity and that he dropped the syringe because he's like [ __ ] like it's under a bush or something he's like I got to come back for that but I can't go get it now so it's the whole thing and so he is like actively reminding himself not to fall for her like cute little innocent act because she's like oh my God I'm so sorry I'm so sorry he's like maybe [ __ ] figure out your feet bud and like takes off see the funny thing is I had really thought that like I was

like oh this is going to be a meat cute instead no it's not cute like I was fully prepared for that to be the trajectory like oh it ends up being a meat cute and they have this sweet moment no there's no sweetness there's no sweetness and then Everly is really pissed about it so she's back at her a partner or her a partner her a partner I haven't really been drinking that much but I'm struggling so hard with words I don't know why it's because I'm close to my [Laughter]

shift oh why didn't you say so sooner yeah thank you so um she's back at her apartment and she's really pissed she's feeling very emotional because um she she is realizing she's probably going to have to sell her apartment and downsize because of all of her debt um and she loves this place like it's been her consistency since her parents died she's mad about the run in with Jackson I'm about to be an [ __ ] and I respect that everyone's financial situation is

different go ahead I know she is not a good nurse if she can't afford her bills and she has like minimal overhead expenses m like so that was one of the things that bothered me about this book because nurses generally make pretty decent money yes right if she was an MA or something I might understand a little bit but like they say repeatedly that she's a nurse and so it's very confusing that she can't afford to feed herself and pay her utility bill like yeah I

don't get it um and she doesn't even have a car payment because she drives her mom's old car so it's just like one of those things but also I'm like why would you buy an apartment oh I guess that's the other part of it is like the taxes on the apartment but cuz they mentioned that at one point but like you are you are a very poor Steward of your money yes like of the the money your parents left you like really but that's that's we will suspend belief for many

things including including her financial situation no I love that we're both like no it's cuz we think a lot of nurses right we do every nurse I know is great and like is wonderful yeah like they might not be driving a Rolls-Royce but I'm like they they lead very comfortable lives yes yes so yeah ever just is is a bad nurse is my take yeah she's a bad nurse cuz she's about to shift so her bestie comes over and is talking to her she offers her loan Everly refuses but then she's like

well what about what if you take a roommate this place has a second bedroom that has its own bathroom that could be the perfect solution and so they come up with a plan that she's going to hang the sign at her gym um so that that way she can call the gym for references it'll be like somebody she's kind of thinking they'll live a healthier lifestyle and not be like sloppy if they go to the gym I was like that's being super generous to Jim Bros but okay yeah I'm like I really think it

depends on what gym you remember at like if we're going to Golds maybe be careful no offense but like you know I don't know if the random Planet Fitness where I can't name a single person there is really mm-m I'm like that cuz it's not necessarily and I could be wrong here but like it's not giving the energy of like a crossfit box where like like it is your community and you know all of the people like it's like oh she works out there yeah I go like once a month I'm sure it's a great

workout you know yeah she's like I use the treadmill like yeah so um I but I I applaud the it is some thought until like I don't want to I don't want to post it on references right so um the next day Jackson is really pissed at himself for not following her the night before um but he needed space to like get his head right cuz he was really thrown off by their whole interaction and he's thinking she probably went out the night before like she probably went to party blah blah

blah which she didn't she hung out at home with her best friend and so he's shocked to see her come out before 700 a.m. he's like what but I assumed she would be sleeping until noon but like here she is um so she goes to the gym and he is watching from afar sees her hang the sign um and after she leaves in her work uniform he goes in and bribes the gym manager to let him pay cash for a single month membership and the guy's like I'll handle everything personally if anybody

gives you any trouble like have them call me like I'll vouch for you like he gives the kid it's like a 22-year-old kid he gives him like a significant amount of money to like do what he's asking um and then he um takes down Everly's sign cuz he realizes it's a perfect opportunity to get close to her in private so that he doesn't have to worry about humans seeing her have a seizure he's like well great perfect okay but the injection is not going to kill her and she'll still need

a roommate he could have left the sign I might be missing the point here maybe a little bit but that's okay but I mean the point all I'm saying is it'll just stop her from shifting it won't kill her it won't kill her right she will still be in a financially so he's fully intending to move in like not just going to see it he's fully intending to move that feels like so much effort for a man who was going to run past her and shoot her up with a needle and now he's like

let me do a whole roommate interview and background check y let me compile references why not just schedule an initial interview and inject her then yeah there are a lot of issues with this story like the general plot is actually really interesting and pretty cool but then some of the details you're like why nope yeah yeah so like I'm like buddy let me help you ruin her life right I was like just take a tour of the apartment and inject her there why are we being complicated leave her on the

floor yeah no one will know right and then she can just do the next roommate interview right but now she won't because you took down her sign it's rude um that's my biggest issue with Jackson far it's the next level Petty for you so um Everly is getting to work she gets a call from some guy about the apartment she's super shocked that it happened so fast and she's kind of like thrown off about it but she does get the info for his references and says that she'll call

back later to set up a time to do a tour so she calls her best friend um who says that she's out of town because bestie was going to be there with her so she didn't have a stranger in the apartment so she suggests meeting him somewhere neutral um and like getting to know him a little bit before scheduling the tour for the next day I got to say that is a great call I once had a my cousin and I were roommates in Nashville my cousin was getting married and moving

out I was doing roommate interviews and a dude came over and I could not get him out of my house fast enough and was so unsettled and like my like my cousin was like how'd that interview go I was like I never want to be around that person again I have to move yeah and to the point where my cousin like do I need to come back and like sleep at the apartment tonight and I'm like no like I think I'm I think I'm good but like no a neutral location yep let's meet him first check his references and

then we'll decide if we're going to go through the whole rig some could go back and tell [ __ ] like 24y old Chelsey right maybe I'm have someone with you yes yeah PSA that's that's our other PSA for today and the bestie whose name is Diana is like the the true hero in the whole thing she's the only voice of reason and she's the only one that makes any sense she's like hey maybe get a roommate hey maybe meet them in a safe space yeah hey I'll be there with you

like let's do this together I got you babe we all deserve a best friend like that we do we all deserve a Diana so um all the references came back great so the next morning she meets Jackson at the gym juice bar she figures it's an area they're both familiar with plenty of people around great great makes sense so there are a bunch of Meat Heads making a ton of noise um and all the women in the the gym are like ogling them and she's just getting like kind of increasingly irritated by the whole

scene um and then finally the guy getting the most attention comes over to her um and she recognizes him as The [ __ ] from the park that that yelled at her um and she's noticing like he's extremely hot but also extremely rude to her still and um he is super genuine and kind with the girl who's working the juice bar like when he orders his smoothie or whatever and as soon as he like turns to look at her he's like Dead face like hatred pouring off of him you want me as a roomate or not right well

it's like Jackson you are the worst at this like he supposedly Works in um security and has done missions for the pack and for various people who've hired them in the past and I'm like no you haven't buddy you can't get through a five minute conversation with a girl that you need to move in with without being an [ __ ] you're terrible you don't need to move in with I'm sorry you don't he literally could have put it cuz it can either be injected or ingested he

could have put it in her smoothie at the Club at the gym nobody would have known I'm so annoyed I know I know I know I know I know okay so he's still being an [ __ ] to her even though he mm 1850 a month just let me move the [ __ ] in basically yes so he tells her that he's here for work he doesn't know how long he's going to be here but he's willing to pay more since it will be a shortened lease and like whatever whatever but he also says um that he doesn't have time for quote

Dianes and um so she needs to like keep her hands to herself and she's like um she gets Jackson she gets real mad real mad dare you dare I say big mad I I I think you should dare I think you should I I will dare then so she then tells him the apartment isn't available and just storms out but she's like super proud of herself like I nailed that walk away like hell yeah she didn't did she she didn't she gets to her car and realizes she left her bag with her phone

and her keys and her wallet yep at the at the table yep she's like well I'm not going back in there so she like I'm just going to stand by my car I guess cuz she still has like a little bit of like a a self-satisfied moment because he looked so shocked when he she told him off and she's like hell yeah I'm not ruining that by going back in there I'll just wait by my car I've done worse things she's like whatever she's like how long how long will he be there I can Outlast him it's

fine she's like gym closes at 9: no I don't really know but like that's what I imagine so um Jackson is beating himself up hard for being a dumbass he finally realizes he [ __ ] it yeah um and uh she shut down really hard on him she had been trying to be kind and like sweet and stuff um and then when she shut down he started calling her icy spice icy spicy is how I really wanted to say it I don't know what icy spicy is like a winter mint perhaps that's what I want him to really start

calling her winter mint yes so anyway hey coriander not coriander that's good um how do you know so many spices just off the cuff like that they all start with C except for paprika cumin K Cor Chipotle Chipotle adobo oh my God okay um because I'm that basic white girl that got all of the like matching glass jars and so I have all of the alphabetical right labels to put on each individual jar okay that makes sense I'm and so as I've been trying to name them I've been

imagining my well now Rack in my head all the ones I'm thinking of to be clear are like Chinese five spice exactly like no no I'm like taco seasoning just really isn't a great nickname hey Ranch powder how you doing hey so um he is trying to get himself under control cuz he just feels so much rage sitting across from his enemy and like this person who is a threat to his pack even though she doesn't know that they're enemies he's like I know and like well and okay hear me he lost his mother in a

very very traumatic way and was injured at the same time was injured at the same time right um given the age he was when that happened it does feel like a lot of the rage that he's internalized has been like the pack rage and like the like I'm like good sir like this this girl it happened 25 years ago and she's 25 she wasn't even yeah she wasn't even born yet when this happened where is this visceral anger towards this innocent person coming from because like that wasn't

like it's not like he's been harboring this against Everly for 25 years yeah it's been against the moon family and her name isn't even Moon anymore I forgot to mention that it's Everly Miller and so he is I think what it is is it's his father's rage he's like so disconnected from his dad cuz his dad shut down so hard after the death of his mate that like their anger towards this family is the only connection that Jackson really has with his dad yeah so I think that that's a big part of it but

he's also just super confused because nothing is making sense about her like why does she want a roommate why is she working as a nurse why does she seem like so sweet and innocent like none of this tracks at all um why does she seem so normal for someone who's supposed to be such a coldblooded killer threat to our back what do you what do you think she should be behaving like like is she supposed to be like walking around murdering people and taking candy from

babies like all I'm saying is even KGB operatives had to work normal jobs you've seen the Americans you understand like what kgp op literally because I was talking to my husband about the Americans yesterday cuz he's never seen it oh well he started rewatching Blacklist is that what it's called yeah yeah um I think and like is her husband desp like in the first season and so I was like oh have you ever watched the Americans and he's like no I was like I think you'd really like it you should

add it to your list so yes he he believes that she is on the level of some kind of well-trained KGB assassin for how well she is acting and so he tries to call to apologize and then realizes that he still has her bag so he grabs it to go take it to her and he's like I will be Charming like I will be Charming like get it together so he a whole like brne brown motivational in the mirror he's like you will be kind yes you will be witty yes you will not punch her in the face like

you will be just lovely it feels like it should be a low bar right and yet but for him he's still tripping over it he tries to explain to her that like listen um I'm just I've been really busy and I've been really frustrated um with all of the attention I've been getting like you saw the women in the the gym like it's hard for me to move through the world and like all this sh and all I could think was like the arrogance though I'm sorry I'm sorry Hannah pause you're saying this fool

went I'm so sorry I was such an [ __ ] just too many women want me and I've been so stressed about it yeah and what kills me is that Everly is like you know I kind of understand that like if men were on top of me like that all the time I'd get really frustrated too which is like it men and women have different experiences I think you know so okay she's like so sweet and empathetic about it she's like oh my God I don't get that kind of attention really but if I did oh man yeah I'd be really

frustrated too like I'm just imagining one I wouldn't I could not keep a straight face in that but like if a client like if a like ever told me a story like that I B let's let's maybe have a conversation about our grandos right like what like hey oh I hadn't recognize these narcissistic patterns and traits before and here they are well then it would be like Chelsea listen it can never work between us like as soon as you start to confront it could never work I understand the Allure that I hold

but it is it is wild that the those clients exist they do they really do they do it is insane yeah and it's so weird to navigate it is really hard to be like um like I don't want to say thank you no thank you because no I don't want to thank any part of it Oh you mean this this random person that I've only ever known via a zoom meeting link oh like but you know I'm like oh yeah this is not this isn't that this is not that but bless Everly for being such a sweetheart and being like you know she's

so sweet yeah thank thanks for explaining it I I Now understand yep my gosh so she agrees to start over and they're going to meet up for coffee the next day and when he gets to the coffee shop um bestie is there and um he's trying to be patient about it but he's just really experiencing so much pressure from his dad like his dad's calling him a lot um and so he's just trying to like get this [ __ ] over with so he turns on the charm for bestie um and they all agree to go back to the

apartment um and he's like this is this is very private that's great no one will know when I drug her so except her best friend well bestie is about to leave cuz that's the whole thing yeah she wasn't going to go to the apartment with them just met at the coffee shop with them well she went and was there when he did the tour and then when they agreed that he could move in and she left I see so he offers way more money um again because it's going to be shortterm and um

so yeah does he work where is he getting all of these funds from so the the pack that he's a part of owns a security company and there's like a couple of other businesses that they own but he primarily Works security okay so um Jackson also then leaves and he is moving in like the next day so Everly is really panicking about this whole thing having somebody in her space um but he's very standoffish and she can't really put her finger on it but she's like she feels very tense and like

her hackles are up every time she's around him um but she tries to push all that away and just focus on getting him settled so um he calls her into his bathroom to explain the shower because it's like a complicated shower head or whatever and um she again trips over nothing and winds up knocking his toiletry bag down and a bunch of vials and syringes pour out and she's like ah the Roid Rage would explain it wouldn't it she's like that definitely makes sense um and then she go

oh it's steroids yeah I feel better now yeah she's like I won't take it personally then I know what we're up against okay um so he's again a dick and just tells her to get out um so she then is talking to her best friend they're making plans for Everly's birthday which is coming up and um she is just reminding herself that Jackson is a means to an end like him being there paying rent it they don't have to be friends they don't even have to interact like they just have to exist in

the same space um and so Jackson over the next few days he's like trying to find a routine getting into a rhythm and he hasn't had another opportunity to inject Everly because she leaves for work early in the morning she comes home late in the evening like they're just he keeps missing her so he's in the shower trying to come up with a plan and his bathroom door just burst open and there's Everly and um she is shocked but obviously also checking him out and um that has him

getting hard and he is just really mad about that pause I'm missing something why did she just bust open the bathroom door we're going to find out in a second okay so she's apologizing and like stumbling over her words um she forgot that she had left something in that bathroom and she had her earbuds in because she was coming back from a run so he's usually out of the house at that time of day so she just assumed he wouldn't be there and she's not used to living with anybody and so she just

didn't think about it and just walked into the bathroom that is her explanation okay that's fine keep going she says it's fine it's not fine so um yeah he is hoping that this will actually present another opportunity for him to inject her I'm sorry where is he hiding a syringe while he's in the shower he put pants on now um nope he sends her out and then he puts pants on and takes a vial and he's like okay um I prefer to think he had to hide it between his butt cheeks and the

shower I'm comfortable with that narrative um for all the other things I've had to suspend belief for in this book I can we can hold on to that this is where it is um so he's like let's have a glass of wine we're going to celebrate being roommates let's just hang out for a little bit um Let's Pretend This Never Happened it's really okay and so she's like that's cool thank you and he puts the drug in her wine and is planning to inject her once she gets knocked out from the first dose because

it's more in in wow it's more effective injected okay um and so he doesn't want to take any chances so um he takes it over to her and he's like just thinking about her and he's like God she is really clumsy spice because she keeps tripping over things and then he's like but she's also beautiful spice oh gosh and then he's like shut up idiot like we have a job to do so he starts like getting really down on himself about all of that but he's like let's just do a toast she's going to drink it

I can get out of here this will all be over it's going to be okay so he toasts her but she somehow breaks both of the glasses on the toast and cuts herself and um he's like what the [ __ ] like you've got to be [ __ ] kidding me right now like he's really strugg he would be a horrible spy because he is a horrible spy he is a horrible spy he's doing a terrible job so she's bleeding pretty badly cuz she's got a cut on her thumb and she goes to like put it in her mouth

and he's like don't do that and she's like what what he's like there might be glass in it and then he's like why did I stop her like if she got any bit of that drug it would have been good why did I do that and so he's just really really irritated with himself um and she is like mumbling to herself about not understanding why she's so clumsy and like what what's going on and he's like she knows why she's so clumsy she's getting close to her first shift like she knows everybody

knows um so then he is cleaning her up and winds up licking her blood for some reason and does is like he starts freaking out cuz he like feels a pole to her um and oh because it's his mate yeah what I know but he doesn't put put that situation together um he's like nope don't like that it's because she's probably a double Alpha and is way too powerful I got to get out of here so whatever I really freaking out um and um yeah I would be freaked out as well if I cut myself and someone my

roommate licked up my blood the blood off my finger yeah that would be awkward wouldn't it um she's like I know she feels this like crazy attraction for him but like obviously he's a douchebag so she's just like all over the place um and um she he has her his back to her he's like trying to put space between them but he doesn't leave the room and she um apologizes again for breaking the glass and says that one of her patients died that day and um she's just having a

really difficult time like she was just distracted by the death of one of her patients she had her earbuds in she's really really sorry she's sorry she broke the glass like all she does throughout this whole book is just apologize really um and so um girl she's having a really difficult time she's actually very sweet um and then he um starts being really rude to her again after being really sweet and cleaning her up and she's like okay so sweet and gentle one minute and then MH

massive douchebag the next like I'm not I hate it here um so she calls her best friend and they she goes out with best friend MH so then Jackson the next day he didn't sleep at all really because he's so upset about the whole thing and he hears Everly in the kitchen so um he needs to just go do this like he like he just he's like if I don't inject her now I'll never do it he's like I'm serious about it now um and so he comes out and um in her little Hello Kitty pajamas and he's like what

kind of wolf shifting double Alpha wears Hello Kitty pajamas the [ __ ] someone who doesn't know they're a shifter yeah someone who has no earthly idea so she asked about the scars on his chest um and because he walked out shirtless uhhuh yeah and he's like I I don't like to talk about it and like shuts her down completely um and when her phone rings it's a perfect opportunity um to to dose her smoothie that she was making but he just can't bring himself to do it and he's like what the [ __ ] is

wrong with me and he's like very upset so um he knows that he's missing something because her emotions are too sincere but like she's a moon so even though she's calling herself something else he knows who she is like he he knows that she's evil so um yeah he's like he's he's a disaster so he's like feels he's betrayed everyone he loves he's betrayed his mother's memory he's betraying his pack like all this [ __ ] because he can't dose this girl so um he calls his uncle after Everly

leaves for work he calls his uncle um and he's like I don't think she knows she's a wolf like I don't think she knows anything about any of this like she is truly innocent like I can't do this and his uncle tells him that um he gets it that Jackson is a really good man but if he doesn't do it to restrict her wolf before she shifts for the first time then he's going to have to kill her because when her wolf takes over she's going to be absolutely bloodthirsty and

uncontrollable just like her parents and so like he if he doesn't he's going to save her life by dosing her is what Uncle tells her um H yeah so he's like I get it but it still his uncle is emotionally manipulating him he's not okay even a little bit just okay just just had to ask yeah he should be he really should be um because I think you I think you probably know so this story is interesting in some ways and in others is like I know exactly where we're going I

got it I get it okay so anyway is at work she's doing her thing um and her boss is like abusing one of the patients like pulling on her hair and stuff and Everly starts to feel something in her chest that doesn't feel right um and she starts to realize that her boss has been abusing this particular patient for a long time because she sees like older bruises when the boss leaves the room and so um the boss and tells her that she's being written up for questioning her um with the patient and

so um the the boss goes to to write her up and Everly won't back down but she really does not feel right like she feels something is really wrong and she's like I can smell her anger and her fear and that she had oatmeal for breakfast like the [ __ ] she's like I don't I am in fact an insane person she's like I'm an insane person I have old factory hallucinations hallucinations yes she's like am I having a stroke or a hallucination who knows I did a crisis assessment Once on

This like high school kid who said he was having old factory hallucinations and I it was the most interesting I was like I don't what was he smelling that's the thing it was very vague um he's like I smell something yeah smelly like literally is how it felt like the assessment went yeah uh cuz I feel like he was also like yeah sometimes I feel like a hand holding my wrist down can can you move your wrist when that happens I don't know okay I'm this is this is not a

great crisis assessment I don't know how to help you here like I really want to but all of these answers are so vague and so just like you know I never thought to try I've been I've been smelling things like like markers like what Like Glue right you're like okay so when you smelled the smells was it after you had intentionally huffed some other like WD40 like like yeah it was the the it truly sounded like a kid who'd done drugs for the first time and he was like hands are weird you

know he's like I I noticed that I can like see colors like yeah and I'm like okay so like w does that make you want to hurt yourself or hurt anyone else or what are we doing here like how do we what's our response to this and he's like I don't know it's just weird right and I'm like I don't I don't think we need a hospital for this no maybe maybe some water and a nap you know like maybe maybe get a banana in you just some fresh fruit get a little son you'll be fine

you just needed some potassium that was the whole problem avocados have more potassium than bananas fun fact what yeah that is a fun fact because I can't eat bananas they give me nightmares I don't know why I I don't know huh I don't know why Hanah we've been friends for 3 years I really feel like you've been burying the lead here yeah I can eat banana bread fine but a banana will give me a nightmare yeah and they're truly bizarre so the most bizarre one that I've ever had after eating a

banana because every few years I'm like I bet I could though like that's ridiculous right like that's ridiculous and so I'll have one and then I deeply regret it but the most bizarre one was that I was at the daycare where I used to work okay and um Sarah Palin was there and of course she was teaching my class of um four-year-olds how to ski shoot and in the playground obviously and the funny thing is I know exactly what outfit she's wearing it's the only one she really

wears it's the only one it's the only outfit she has when she's not on a press circuit yes yes it's the one you know the one the vest it's the vest it's the [ __ ] best it's the vest but her hair is still the same up yeah in the glasses yes so that that's happening and all of a sudden there is a tornado coming and so I am panicking trying to get all the kids into the building right I don't know where Sarah went um she was gone so then did she become the wicked witch is

that where this no like maybe she was the tornado who knows but and her feed rolled back under the house once I took her shoes the same pair of hiking boots that she wears every time red glittery ruby red hiking boots Sarah they're very practical so got a great tread on them you know so one of the kids takes off and so I chase the kid cuz I'm freaking out like this kid can't die on my watch right so I like scoop her up and toss her in the door and then they close the

door and they leave leave me out there and I'm just standing there and there's tornado coming I'm like what do I do now and a very large man with very long locks comes and just gives me a hug and we just we just said the serenity prayer and then I assume we died because the tornado came and then I woke up that's what happens when I eat bananas okay so like I feel like you could have a very successful YouTube or Tik Tok Channel just called like banana nightmares or

something banana night the the only time you post is when you eat a banana and you're just like telling the story of the banana dream the next day you know maybe I will I I mean they're they're something fascinating yeah they are they're okay anyway but where where were well Jackson's having a nightmare oh okay Jackson is having a nightmare so we're cutting to Jackson afteron uh Everly realized the patient was being abused didn't feel good in her chest was getting written up all that

stuff right so he is we're also flashing back in time he hears her on the phone hears her leaving to go to work um he's her making birthday plans and it's like oh [ __ ] she's going to shift today um today I done [ __ ] up it's not just like around the birthday it's on the bir he's like so I done [ __ ] up so um he follows her um and um so we left Everly at work right here's her she leaves she comes back and then she decides to go for a run Jackson decides to follow her

so um she is going really fast while she's on this run and he's like M yeah she's about to shift this is faster than human speed she's shifting in a park full of humans good love it great so um and at this point Jackson well his uncle obviously told him you need to kill her or you need to give her the injection before she shifts or you'll have to kill her Jackson is like very aware she does not know what's like she just is thinks she is a human who is now going to break

the Olympic right like trial time she's breaking records yeah yes yes uh okay so he is very aware of the issue and it's like oh [ __ ] she's about to shift she does not know what's about to happen we are in public she could hurt a lot of could hurt a lot of people I I'm guessing it's a I need to help fix this I'm hoping that yes so he takes off she shifts in the woods so she had veered off the path into some trees shifted um and um she starts making this like

rumbling noise and his wolf answers and he's like what the [ __ ] are you doing buddy like that's weird um but he pins her so that she can't get to the humans um cuz there's like a playground right there so he like pins her so that she can't and he has a danger no okay and gets her he gets her into a choke hold and he's like I could I could just go ahead and finish it like I could just go ahead and kill her but then he just can't um and um this is really his last chance because she's vulnerable

from her first shift but she shifts back as he's like choking her and um she's crying and he's like well [ __ ] so he goes over and steals a blanket from some somebody who's not looking to like wrap her up because she's now naked um and uh I appreciate that her clothes did not spontaneously return they did not I feel like there was a book I read where they were trying to exp they could shift with their clothes because of like the magic that they used while other people shifted and were

naked because of like how they shift so half of the people would shift and like return clothed and I'm like no commit or don't I don't think you can be wearing denim and then turn into a bird and then suddenly be wearing denim again in your human form yeah that's difficult for me to process unless that little bird is wearing denim pants I don't want it oh my God I would like to see that drawing paranormal books would be so much more fun if everyone an wearing tiny clothes likea

just a little bird wearing tiny pants Suzanne Ray if you could assist me with this Suzanne listen and Charlene I just don't know how to say your last name Charlene heart heart heart we're so sorry we're trying to disrespect but I said something about SKC New York the other day and so now I'm like harn I don't know that sounds wrong I don't know it's like all of the random lakes in Florida yes okobi Oki fi that's a swamp anyway so um he wraps her up in a blanket he's like I got to get her back

to the car yes and so she is absolutely flipping the [ __ ] out like AB like of course she is flipping the [ __ ] out as anyone would so Jackson is carrying her to the car and all she can remember is running one one minute and then like naked on the ground with Jackson on top of her the next her the next yeah she's like um the [ __ ] um and he's like just stay calm just stay calm like just be cool be cool I will help you get out of public right don't be suspicious like

just be cool so they get stopped by an old woman and yet them going across the field going don't be suspicious don't be suspicious in while she's naked in a blanket right right and he's cradling her to his chest she's crying her eyeballs out yeah it's going to look a bit sus no matter how how much you tell her don't be Jackson is going to be arrested like it doesn't happen but this old woman is like oh my gosh is she okay and he's like diabetic emergency and um

great cover yep and the doesn't explain why she's naked but great cover well she's like all wrapped up in the blanket so you can't see her but still okay she's not wearing any shoes but whatever so the old woman has a little dog with her and the dog is like barking and growling at Everly and so Everly growls back because she can't stop it and Jackson just yells I think she's convulsing and like runs away which I thought was hilarious um like oh no like got to get her out of

here it's the diabetes we got to go what we run fast we can diabat this yeah um so they make it back to the apartment and Jackson will not speak okay um and she is extremely horny and is like sniffing all up on him and she's standing there naked and confused and scared and um she has no idea what's going on and so she can smell that he's turned on too and finally he tells her that she's a wolf and that he's been following her in case she changed and because she would be a danger to the

humans and um we kind of buried the lead there Jackson left out a little bit of it and I've been following you for your own safety and the safety of the humans I'm good and for the safety of others I've kept the syringe in my pocket have you heard that um Tick Tock sound where this girl is singing she's no longer a danger to herself or others no I'll find it my sister sent it to me it's very funny yes somebody made a cake and the sound is playing behind it and it just says no

longer a danger to myself or others and they're like lighting a candle incredible I'll find it but anyway so um she is she finally steps back because she is realizing that he knew all along so like it breaks through all of her horniness and fear that like he knew that she was going to shift and he must know much more about her than he has led her to believe and he's not telling her so she's just like okay I'm just going to go shower [ __ ] this so um but being an [ __ ] because he's

just so hot she was like that makes sense this one she can connect all the dots on yeah yeah yeah okay sorry keep going yeah so no Jackson is also freaking out and he is like Baby Spice turned into Scary Spice [ __ ] a dude and um she's definitely a double Alpha and way more powerful than they realized and so um so as they speculated but also let me like she's a double Alpha she's more powerful but like considering they been like she'll be like if they're a double Alpha be

bloodthirsty and crazy with one breath she'll kill us all and you're like what well so the the thing seems to be because it comes up in later books in this series that follow other people is that um there are not really any double Alphas because as soon as they are recognized they are killed immediately so like nobody knows what kind of power a double Alpha has they're just killing all of them for fear of the unknown yeah so it's like an urban legend at this

point that's a shitty approach yeah it's pretty awful it's pretty awful um so he is freaking out Jackson's freaking out he's like I am failing in a spectacular fashion but she smells so good so um his phone your scented mate buddy yep yep MH MH but he can't get there that even with the smell even with the smell he's not getting there I feel like half of the Paranormal wolf shifter books like as soon as they smell them they're like you're minding you're no one else's and if anyone ever [ __ ]

looks at you I'll slice their throat like that is a bit of an overreaction and this man smells her and it's like well that's Pleasant anyway back to what I was watching anyway let me answer this call for my dad like that's literally what happens so then the next so later in the day Everly wakes up she realizes she basically slept the entire day um and she gets out of bed and finds Jackson dressed up for a night out and she's like the [ __ ] are you doing and he's like well you're going out with

your friend I'm going with you she's like you're not invited where's your invite my guy and he's like you don't understand like you're still in your first shift it's a full moon like we need to be really careful here I'm just coming as protection I promise like I'm not going to ruin this night for you um so uh her best friend shows up they all go out um and he's like oh my God she's so beautiful is the whole thing so they out to dinner and they have actually a

really nice time like a really lovely time all together um is it just the three of them okay and Everly keeps reminding her herself that Jackson is a liar like he is he is a liar he's hiding things from her so no matter how hot he is or how good he smells like she's not we're not getting into that good for you girl hold those boundaries yeah my my guards say she needs to keep her guard up even though he's a smoke show so um I don't know so um my husband and I just started the

new season of Love is Blind yes and there's a girl and she is tiny and cute and adorable and beautiful um but ended up in a love triangle and she definitely um assumed the clothes and should not have and he went for the other girl and she's just like telling him off in the pots and is like you're going to need your epip pen when you see how hot I am like I don't think she said hot like when you're going to you're when you see what you missed out on like just one of

the you're going to choke when you see and I'm like but not even like you're going to need an epip pin you're going to need your epip pin this [ __ ] knows he has allergies and is using it to insult him which I thought was [ __ ] hilarious that is amazing you're going to need your epip PIN when you see me and everything you missed out on I'm like good for her just really yeah like I looked at him like when you choke and see this smoke show was like kind of

like you're going to choke on them words son yep I get it we'll be very curious because we have just made it through the Pod so I have no idea what happens in the rest of the season that's very exciting please renew your net going have to getf I'm going to have to get Netflix again I will a coworker texts me at 6:30 in the morning go Chelsea it's the best season in year that okay I'm like the [ __ ] are you doing at 6:30 what a strong open but also maybe go back to bed yeah whatever

Hanah what are you doing at 6:30 in the morning I would bet reading because how well are you going to hit 300 books a year I am reading because I can't sleep but I'm also not texting you about love is blind or anything else at 6:30 in the morning you can I could I won't I'm not good at ping before nine no yeah no in my general approach to texting I am unfortunately that person that I'm like I'm either going to respond within 5 minutes or five weeks and I apologize and then at some point

it just gets we we too much time has passed it is weirder for me to respond now well what I feel weird about is that when I don't sleep sometimes I'll be like oh my God I wonder how so and so is doing didn't she have that thing and then I want to text people to be like hey I'm thinking about you what's going on with that thing but it's 3:00 in the morning so I'm not going to do that so sometimes I will schedule a text for the next morning at like 9:30 so that it's

not like oh I was thinking about you at 3:00 a.m. like um when I was pregnant and had like horrible insomnia and I like it wasn't even where I was like laying there reading in the middle of the night I just like [ __ ] it I may as well get through my work inbox and so at

like 3:00 a.m. I'd go into my office and sit down at my desk and start responding to emails and I was like I'm going to look like a crazy person so I would delay them I would schedule all of the emails to be within normal business hours all of those were written at 3:00 a.m. I love that you get it yeah but then by the time I fell back asleep I like had a little bit more like flexibility in the morning cuz I'm like oh I've responded to my whole inbox there's like nothing immediately needed

from me I can ease in yes yeah I can ease into it kind of worked great okay I'm sorry they're they're having a good time great time a great okay not a good a great time great time and um Jackson is wrestling with the fact that even though her parents killed his mother that she has done nothing wrong like she is lovely and he's supposed to kill her so after dinner they decide to go to a bar and he realizes that this is really bad because Everly is putting out mating

pheromones from her first shift and so um they wind up almost getting into a fight with a group of men and he like whisks her out and um they start going at it in the cab on the way home she like mounts him essentially and he um decides that he's just going to finger her because he can't have her he's like so I'm not it'll be totally fine if I just get her off with my hands um it feels like the loopholes in the southern Christian Church 100% oh no I'm like oh God's

loophole you mean the butthole yes the uh gar funcle and o is that who yes [ __ ] me in the ass cuz I love Jesus yes yeah yeah mhm great sketch yeah for the record it is very good it's so funny yes um and when you grew up in the southern Conservative Christian Church it hit H it does hit different harder than you expect it hits different I still have a highman none of it counted like Okie do I knew a girl who was leaving to go on the mission field for a year and the

night before she left she was like we had anal that way I'm still a virgin on the mission field I'm like I really I don't know if the Hyman is the most important I feel like we're focusing on the wrong part yeah yeah yeah if the if the highman is the the connection to God no I hated that sentence okay all right good good good yeah so anyway um he freaks out as he's like getting her off and like shoves her away and he like this is a really bad idea and she wants answers and he like he

can't give them and there's all this tension and he's like I don't know what the [ __ ] I'm doing so um she asks like okay so if you're not going to [ __ ] me why didn't you let me go home with somebody else because I would have like and he's like yeah that's why and um he's like well it's not too late you could go back out and pick somebody up stop it Jackson no yep yep yep yep yep yep and like he would be if if she tried to leave yeah to go [ __ ] someone else

well and her response is cool thank you for that go pack your [ __ ] get out by the time I get back you should be gone yeah your rent money is not yep worth this [ __ ] and he's like what and he's like but but women think I'm God's Gift she's kicking me out and then he's like of course she's kicking you out you're a [ __ ] idiot and just like follow her inside like a sad little puppy so Everly is so incredibly angry she can't even like form thoughts but she's also super horny

which apparently is part of the first shift and so she wants to both beat the [ __ ] out of Jackson and climb him like a tree so um she just keeps telling him you need to get the [ __ ] out you need to get the [ __ ] out I need to go for a run so um he's like you can't leave and she's like why why you told me to go pick somebody up why can't I leave and he still won't answer her and so she's like really good really good talk leave your key under the mat I'm out so Jackson's dad calls again they

felt Everly shift because she's so powerful and so he is quote big mad that Jackson hasn't killed her yet well he hasn't yeah he's he's been a terrible assassin he's doing a very terrible job on multiple levels so um he realizes that he can't do it but he can't tell his dad that because then dad is just going to send somebody else he's like so he's feeling very protective he's really confused so he he leaves but he doesn't he's just he really hasn't he's very he's very stupid oh my God yeah he's

very stupid like I just want to like clap in Jackson's face and be like get there faster figure it the [ __ ] out bro so he he doesn't get in his car to leave he goes for a walk and then he starts to hear screams and he's like there it is and he takes off and Everly has shifted in wolf form in the middle of downtown and people are flipping the [ __ ] out um so he I'm also like okay Jackson if you were that worried and you knew that this was the inevitable outcome follow yes

for as much as you were following her kind of the worst yeah in a lot of ways like I really want to root for Jackson but I'm like Jackson you are doing yourself no favors none not a single one so um she hears him talking like he runs up and she hears him and runs at him and people start screaming like you got to move you got to run like and he just doesn't move and starts petting her like a dog and just kind of talking to her like she puts his her paws up on his

shoulders and he's like hey honey like you're okay everything's okay and he's like it's just a dog like while he's like walking her away he is the worst he's so bad and so they get her into some trees and she shifts again and he has his duffel bag because he had packed his clothes so he like pulls out something for her to put on and um he walks her home and more freaking out and Jackson finally starts answering some of her questions um all all W wolves reach their Prime at 25

um and it's harder for her because she doesn't have a pack he tells her that her parents were exiled um when he was a child he doesn't lie exactly he just says that he was very young when it happened so even though he knows the whole story he's kind of like I was very young when she asks what happened um so that he doesn't answer um also like there's clearly something where he doesn't remember all of what happened right which I interpreted as like the standard Trope of

he'll have the memory at some point and unlock the oh this is what actually happened right and her parents were exiled he does know that that's why and then they were killed only about 5 years ago so they moved around constantly to like oh be on the RO I missed that well I didn't bring it up because we didn't really know it so Everly is now putting together that that's why her parents were running her whole life that's why they never settled anywhere was because

they were afraid they were going to be found and then they were in fact found so when she used the life insurance money it wasn't money that had been sitting there since she was born it was like she got that within the last five years yeah got it yes yeah so um he tells her that all new wolves all they want is to feed or [ __ ] and that he's going to help her and she's like hey you right she's like why you've been a colossal douchebag from the moment I met

you like why um valid response so you're you're just going to be nice to me now to get in my pants this is really cool I love this journey for both of us like get the [ __ ] away from me um and he's like I'm just trying to keep things safe I'm just going to help you get through this like I don't have any ulterior motive and she's like sure um except killing you or right loving you forever right which will it be so um what what if it end what if the whole book ended with him just killing

her that would be refreshing I don't know if I could forgive you for that even though you didn't write it if you led me on this whole journey and he just [ __ ] kills every I don't I don't know if I could trust you again who will Who will know we I've never trusted Rebecca yaros after she killed someone yeah and I like like with like Kindle like first of the month like books or however first of the month like their Bone Thugs no oh my god oh great song You

excellent um I've downloaded other books by that author and every time I go to read them I go I can't risk it again the tra response the Betrayal the drama response oh my God okay sorry so so they [ __ ] yeah that's where we are what yeah would we call this their solidifying [ __ ] no no we would not like it's hard and dirty and fast and it's like literally clearly just to like keep her wolf together at Bay yeah um so she bites him as she comes but or tries to but he like pulls her

hard away from him um and flips her over so that she can't bite him again cuz she doesn't realize she doesn't know okay so um so she can feel that he's about to pull out of her and she like clamps down on some internal muscles and won't let him and um there was a girl on Temptation Island who said she had that skill and I thought about it a lot where she said she she goes I I can clench so hard a man can't get out what I is that supposed to be like a an attractive thing like a good thing no

it's not right I'm like oh I didn't realize you lived in the Omega verse right right right I've locked it yeah he nodded inside me and it locked and now we're in this position for at least 30 minutes right oh my God oh my God all I could think was like that's very different from a pop and lock but not I guess not that different it's different it's not that different sorry I'm so sorry not not that but yeah did no some just a little there's some differences it's a VIN diagram it's a

VIN diagram oh my God okay where were we oh my God we need to land This Plane this is going forever okay so he's like I can't come inside you cuz you'll get pregnant she's like I'm on birth control don't worry about it and he's like um I'm sorry you shifted do you think your birth control works on a wolf uhhuh exactly it it would never on a wolf yeah [ __ ] he just said it with so much attitude it just got me I was hoping we could move faster we will now I will not

bring it up again we're 50 EP we yes you will not in this episode this episode you're like I know we're 50 episodes in but not anymore on this one not in this episode just the next book where a character is named or they are a wol I said it worse okay so um she's like I'll get the morning after pill don't worry about it he's like you don't Cal get it so he cleans her up um she feels really nice like being cuddled up with him but she's like this is just sex we're just getting through my first

shift it's just sex so then he puts her in the bed and leaves and she's like good that's good that's a good reminder not to not to have any feelings MH um Jackson sits up all night waiting for her to come like pawing at his door and she never does and he's like pouting about it so you mean this [ __ ] in heat exactly so um [ __ ] Jack he's like she tried to bite me and he's like that could have been her trying to kill me but I don't think so I think I think it was meeting behavior um which she

wouldn't understand and he's like if she's pregnant my dad will kill the baby if Everly even lives enough to have it like this is really bad um and so um uh he she's really anxious he finally gets goes out of the room the next morning she's really anxious um about controlling her wolf and he gives her some very sweet like stuff about it and um she's like holding herself back and he realizes like she's gaining control quicker than he thought but also that she's putting

up a lot of walls towards him and he's like I should be glad about that why am I being a bit I he is he's a [ __ ] Jackson is a [ __ ] he's a [ __ ] and um he's telling himself that like this is just easy [ __ ] like don't worry about it like that's the conversation he's having with himself he's disgusting so then um he he's like teasing her like they're having like a cute moment and he's like he's all over the place so then anyway what he's all over the place he's all

over the place he can't get himself together okay so Everly is um at work she's having a good time and then she there's another runin with her boss who is very obviously abusing a patient and so um she starts to feel herself shift and she's trying really hard to gain control and she like calls out in her brain um for Jackson she's like I need help through their bond correct so Jackson's camped out outside her office he shows up Saves the Day pulls her out everything's great um he e

drops on the boss and basically they are going to say that Everly is the one that's been abusing the patients um that's what like the plan the boss has come up with um so they go to um need to pin the blame on other people if you just like don't do it don't abuse the patience right which would be the ideal um but that's not where we are like aam's Razer so so Jackson is very very sweet he's like we're going to get through this everything's going to be okay and um she

starts to wonder why her parents never told her that she's a wolf like how could they just let this happen to her cuz she's so confused well and especially like they passed away when she was 20 right they had plenty of time they had some time so Jackson says it's probably for her protection okay um and they start sharing a really sweet moment where he's talks about how his mom died and his uncle is really the only one who stepped up to care for him and stuff um I'm sure

he is and she reminds herself that like this is not a thing and so she doesn't ask any followup she's like we're not connecting mhm so um then she falls asleep she's full of questions he answers some of them um but not revealing how tied their history really is um and he takes her out to run as a wolf like takes her into the woods they have a really sweet moment um and still doesn't realize their mates nope n oh my God so they're um they're having a great great time they bang this is a

solidifying [ __ ] when they're out in the woods um and she is um she realizes that he has her pin so she can't bite him cuz he still hasn't explained that biting him is mating behavior so she's like she realizes it um so she bites his lip instead of biting his neck um and her wolf immediately like claims him as soon as she tastes his blood um and so then when they're back at the apartment Jackson's flipping the [ __ ] out because it's too late like The Mating bond has

already started so even though he hasn't claimed her back she has claimed him and so it's like a whole thing well and I feel like at least in every like Paranormal shifter book I've ever like the that Bond naturally progresses right unless you so like okay she claimed you you didn't have to claim her for it to to start yeah yeah so he tells her like we cannot exchange blood during sex we cannot do that and um he tries to explain mating and she's like we'll just

get divorced bro like it's not that big of a deal and he's like no no like it's like a chemical marriage like I don't know another word to like you know this is it like there is no going back from this um and then my notes say then somehow they're [ __ ] again laws so um she asks if all wolves are like this while while they're [ __ ] like if all wolves are this big and this intense and everything and um he flips out he's like you will never find out like you will never know that's

it and so yes he's he's clearly not claiming her yeah clearly not never so she um wakes up in bed with him she wants to ask about his scars again um and finally he says that he was attacked when he was three um and she cries for him and just says like I really hope you got whoever did it like I really hope that you got whoever did it and he says yes but refuses to discuss it further so she doesn't realize like his pack killed her parents yeah and so that like yeah they got them right whoops so

um she's horny again uh but then um she has an email from work saying she's suspended it's a whole thing so they go see her best friend who's the attorney to like deal with it so Jackson is struggling to function in general because of all this and he is growling at any man that gets anywhere near her um and he's very distracted by the is that like like I feel like some books like oh until the bond is like fully imp place they're like more possessive more territorial

that's what it seems like but he doesn't even seem to really ful understand that the bond has started like he's still in denial hoping that like they've avoided it somehow so because he's really stupid he really so um his dad called and basically told him that um to come home that he's sending someone else and that he is a terrible disappointment to everyone so um not wrong her bestie puts a a pi on the whole situation with her boss tells her not to worry about it um

and Jackson is really distracted like they're they they're going to lunch they're walking around town and he's super duper distracted watching the street and stuff and um they when they're getting back to the apartment parking garage Jackson is fixated on getting her inside he's like rushing her inside and um then he hears someone coming up behind him but it's too late like he he missed it and they shoot him in the back um and his last thought is that he he failed to protect her um as he feels

himself like dying um so Everly is struggling against four men she just saw Jackson be murdered and um she is she seriously [ __ ] one of them up like real bad to the point where he is dead and um she feels some kind of like heat come from her when she's fighting him and then um as she's trying to fight the others they finally inject her with something and she blacks out what was the heat we don't know we just know she felt it this one's dead who knows okay so um she stops struggling eventually

because she realizes that she has nothing to fight for because Jackson is dead and she can't feel her wolf after they injected her so then she wakes up in a trunk and they are um yeah they're they're talking about how she's a double Alpha she was glowing she didn't know that when she was fighting them she was glowing and stuff and so um I also burn when I glow yeah yeah it is a common problem yeah so um oh it's just cuz she was glowing so so um she finally starts to

feel her fingers and stuff and um the car stops the trunk opens and she looks into Jackson's eyes and she's like what the [ __ ] and then that's the end of the chapter and then Jackson wakes up in the garage paramedics are working on him there are cops everywhere everybody's trying to talk to him so he did die but because he's a wolf and because the silver they used silver bullets because the silver didn't stay in his system his body started to repair itself um and

he's coming to terms with the fact that his father okay them killing him like his father had to AOC that um yeah like get Everly at all cost we don't care about casualties even if the casualty is my son and he's like yelling for Everly he's like asking them where's the woman what happened to the woman and they're like we're still trying to figure out this guy who appears to have been mauled by a an animal and struck by lightning that one's super confusing and the cops

and the paramedics are like joking around and he's like okay [ __ ] you guys so he just gets up and they're like no you can't like you're going to die and he's like have a great day everybody [ __ ] off and like gets in the car and drives away he's like imagine how Wild that would be to be the param I know I was okay time of death 11:57 time of awake and driving away 122 yeah 12:02 you're like he just like told me to [ __ ] off what we'll continue to monitor like

what but like that's the energy where they're all just like flabbergasted about it but he catches her scent he knows where they're going so we're back to Everly um she's being carried through the woods and she's still pretending to be incapacitated even though she can move um because she realizes that it's Jackson's dad like they're almost identical but he has a little bit of silver in his hair and so um he orchestrated all of it he keeps calling her Moon which she has never heard that

name before and goes on and on about how her parents killed his mate so the 10 men that he has with him are all family of his mate um and they've come to watch her die so just as I'm sorry this is some misplaced rage yeah she didn't do [ __ ] she wasn't even born the [ __ ] she wasn't even born and all of them like they've built out this whole narrative that she's like this Evil Genius who's going to kill and hurt all of them all like she doesn't even know she literally never would have crossed

paths with them if they hadn't inserted themselves into her path literally so um they are coming at her like his dad starts to come at her and just as she's about to get up she hears Jackson's voice um and he tries to reason with his dad he's trying to talk him down and then Dad Reveals that they killed her parents and um says he should have known that Jackson would be too weak to kill her and so all of this is brand new information to Everly she had no idea Jackson was sent there to kill her no

idea that his P killed her family so she starts glowing again and when his dad comes at her she hits him with a flash of white light and he like bounces back so like doesn't kill him doesn't kill him okay she she on purpose does not kill him because he's Jackson's dad so Jackson tries to come to her um but she speaks into his mind again and says that he is a betrayer and she never wants to see him again so she takes off and steals his car she was like did I

not tell you to leave the key under the [ __ ] mat a while ago basically yeah we should have done that the first time yes so she takes off um into the woods steals his car cuz he left the keys in the ignition 24 hours later she's clearing cleaning her apartment um trying to get Jackson's scent out of it um and her best friend has been calling um and bestie says that she's on her way over and Everly uh goes to take another shower but then her uh doorbell goes off

and she's like oh Diana must have come like straight over but nope it's Jackson's Uncle the twin to his dad um and he's leaning on a cane and he's like I I need to talk to you like there's you don't have the whole story you need the rest of this information so then we go back to Jackson he's super distraught um his father still hasn't woken up and he like really overwhelmed that Everly hates him okay so the blast knocked his dad out not just like pushed him back

like but like did take him to okay yeah so um she has some kind of lightning power he's like trying to process through all of this and um so he leaves his dad to go find his uncle to talk about it cuz that's like his person so he goes to his his uncle's cabin and um he's not there but his work room is standing open which it never is so he like walks into it and he sees that his mother's amulet that's been missing since her murder is is there and so his memor you so proud of me for not asking

five minutes in I knew that you wanted to I knew that you wanted to and I am really proud of you I really tried you did so good you did so good what this is brand new information the uncle the uncle I didn't see this coming the uncle you guys the uncle did it um and so that's when Jackson's memories become clear and he realizes it was his uncle um and then he gets a really bad feeling because he sees Everly a dress written on a sheet of paper on the desk and he's like well

[ __ ] so Everly we're back to Everly she is burning with pain apparently as soon as she let the uncle in he jabbed her with a needle um and he tells her that He adjusted the dose sh so she won't recover as quickly as she did before um he takes her phone to text Jackson to tell um to tell him to come over uhhuh um and he um she has no idea what's going on she's like I I just she tries to warn Jackson with her mind but she can't reach him um and she loses Consciousness

so Jackson shows up and finds his uncle there with a blade to Everly's throat she's unconscious um uncle does the villain monologue he killed his mom he killed the old pack alpha he's been been manipulating Jackson's dad all these years um and to what end because he was supposed to be Alpha technically he was older and stronger but because he was born with a twisted hip they gave it to his brother and he's been resentful for his whole life so his whole thing was

like he wanted to be the one in power so he [ __ ] up his his brother's life and weakened him and manipulated manipulated him and all that y okay um so um he's like but I'm gonna be a a hero for killing Everly cuz I'm going to tell all of them that she killed you in a fit of rage and I Came Upon it and killed her so that'll be fun and I will be the ultimate hero yay um so um Jackson's like just let me take her like we can live in Exile you'll never see us again like just let

me take her um and the uncle's just like not going to agree to that he's not but Jackson does see that Everly's fingers are starting to move and so he hears in his mind now and so they attack and she basically disintegrates his uncle with her lightning like he's like a pile of Ash um I guess that's like the double Alpha power yes and as all of that's going on the uncle stabs Jackson in the heart and so he is for Real dying this time he hadn't even fully recovered from his previous

injury but she somehow heals him like is holding him and heals him and um she tells him that she needs him to leave that um she can't get over the role he played in her parents murder and that he tried to kill her and um she just needs him to go and which feels like the most realistic in the most reason yeah the most reasonable I'm sure they're going to have a happy ever after but like I do feel like in my heart this is the appropriate ending for the book yeah

because he his thought is like I love her and I would do anything for her and I guess that includes leaving her and so he honors her request okay and leaves so um 7 weeks later um Bessie and Everly are hanging out Everly is now the director of the nursing home everything came out that the the boss actually happened to be like a um angel of Mercy and was like killing old people and had like gone through several nursing homes so apparently the nursing home just did

not do a background check so Everly is now the director she's been fired from the last four nursing homes because of um inexplicable deaths maybe maybe we shouldn't hire her maybe we don't hire her you know um so Everly is pregnant but she refuses to contact Jackson so she's navigating a new job a pregnancy um but she she will not contact him wow that really happened fast but bestie is saying like hey you need to call him like he deserves to know this um but Everly is just really

sad um and she can't let go of her parents murder so um someone rings the bell and it's Jackson's dad hey so bestie takes off like a like a true Rider die she's like this is not something I should be a part of you guys have a good one and leaves so um see I don't know I feel like my besy energy would be yeah I'm just going to go into the other room yeah I'm not leaving and then I would crack the door 100% I'd be like dumping out my VOD katonic and putting a glass

to the door I'm like oh I'm sorry oh no sorry I you talk a little louder I would chug it and then I was like I'm sorry that's a waste full apologies to everyone um so her his dad is like listen Jackson is not living without you he needs you like he really needs you um and he pleads Jackson's case and says that um as his father he used Jackson's love and loyalty against him and she should not punish him for Dad's actions like please don't punish Jackson for my actions

um and he wants dad wants Jackson to lead with Everly he's like clearly I am unfit like you you should I mean that's great Insight yes um and he can smell that she's pregnant so at one point like his nostrils flare and his eyes are like oh [ __ ] and he's like listen he will be a great partner and a really good father you should give him a chance I do love my son I know I told people that they could kill him but yeah in retrospect deep down so much love my son is a catch

and you would be lucky to have him right I didn't feel as lucky which is why I tried to murder my son but you you my girl I also tried to murder you but we'll leave that in the past so she's like I'll think about it get out of my house like what's the visitation policy going to be for my grandchild right I thought about that you're like you tried to murder me bro it's never a rest so we're back to Jackson he's really struggling he's moved back into like the

pack Barracks um because he's just going through the motions like he truly feels awful and he wakes up hearing Everly call for him in his mind through their connection mhm and so he races to her apartment and he finds her naked in the living room and she explains that his dad said some things that made sense nope yep stop Hannah I know I knew this is going to make you so mad St I knew this was going to make you so mad I knew it was going to make you so mad I'm

sorry I'm not mad Hannah you will be oh my thought was really I'm sorry you're naked and he shows up and you're like I talk to your father let me spread my leg and you're like the [ __ ] leave my dad out of this I'm sorry what am I going to get mad about I was really I hadn't even made it there because she's like listen I talked to your dad he's right we're meant to be and he goes to her and realizes she's pregnant he's overwhelmed falls to his knees and then starts

fingering her solidifying [ __ ] with mating nibbles that is the end well fingering her won't hurt the baby you're right about that so then the epilogue oh God Everly is now the pack alpha Jackson calls her his Queen she's still the dtor of the nursing home they're expecting twins any day now um have they made it yeah lots of love and affirmation so happily ever after so really this whole book is about just like a failed assassin yeah so what I thought would make you mad because we've

had conversations about this in the past where it's like she you know he really [ __ ] up and then she's just like you know what I forgive you he was an active part in killing her parents and trying to kill her and she's just like you know what I get it yeah know I I was just really focused on like the when he gets to the house she's naked naked ready and willing like she has made her mind up and made and she's just like you know your dad made a lot of a lot of

good points yeah my Pro con list he had a lot to the proon true true yeah so um I can Overlook how would you like to get in it like yeah not even how how would you like to like she just spread them yeah I didn't read the book but I'm I'm sure that I she said I'm down to clown and he said sounds great he said did you know that Hannah's husband loves MEP did I tell you or did you see he posted a picture of Gizmo and Sophie no but he made Hannah's pets for my dogs he

made them the insane canine posy and said Gizmo was violent giz and Sophie was Sophie too dope is that going to be a holiday card it should be so he actually said the words to me he was like I know we don't really do holiday cards but if I ever did one this would be it I was like okay I hope my family's holiday cards make your husband feel like any holiday card is possible I'm sure they do he has said that's pretty good I feel like that's high praise for now that is actually yeah he doesn't get

hyped often no I have a friend um I've known for like 10 plus years now and one of our favorite things each year is her husband's reaction to our holiday cart like she'll like send me videos and so it was super funny because we did the Winnie the Pooh one when I was pregnant cuz I was Pooh bear um and she was like Chelsea I think we broke bear which is her husband's nickname um and I was like what the [ __ ] you mean we broke bear bear like bear is unbreakable

right and she's like he looked at the card and went H that's pretty cute and then just kept going she's like I didn't know what to do she's like we broke them not a giggle from bear bear giggled at my holiday card and she's like normally so like they've kept when I right before I met my husband and I've probably told the story before I sent a holiday I had a friend who was a photographer she did photos of my cat and ey and I sent holiday cards of just my cat and ey with the tagline we're

feline the holiday spirit love it um meoi Christmas and happy new year was like under like I was like I'm going full in on the cap you committed I I really did yeah they've kept that on their fridge for years and she's like Chelsea was the best thing he saw it and he just literally went and put it down and walked out of the room so getting a giggle it's like the same as Matt being like not bad yeah this pretty good pretty good yeah like I'm like oh that is a huge compliment it is thank you

okay what's our rating scale for this book I have no [ __ ] idea old people lightning I don't know amulets amulets sure steroids syringes there were a lot of those how many syringes is this out of oh I don't like that it does feel accurate even if I don't like it like I didn't like it um no let's let's let's just do um let's just do amulets that feels safer than syringes right you can do amulets I'll do amulet I'm I'm staying fair enough that's that's fair um

so I liked the idea of this book I did not like this book so I'm feeling like a how many amulets are is this out of it's going to be out of five okay I think two two and a half I see too I feel like in your retelling of this book I felt the potential of it while also being like like the [ __ ] well and that's why I started outlining it in the first place was because when I started it I was like this is going to be good and then by the end I was like oh we missed it well it's outlined right

I was like well yeah no I feel like two two and a half two two out of five yeah syringes is and they can even be full or would we prefer empty I thought full was better cuz no one had been injected but your face made me think that maybe I'm like what's in it I guess this antidote that makes you forget your wolf or whatever yeah yeah okay how many syringes what what does the syringe have in it what's in it yeah we need that all right two out of five amulets we're still figuring out what's in the
