Episode description

It’s that time again, goons: another episode of whimsy, fart jokes, and gore. This week we review Stuart Gordon’s Castle Freak.  The film starts Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, both having starred in Re-Animator and From Beyond, also by Stuart Gordon. Combs (The Pit and the Pendulum, The Man with Two Brains, Frightmare) plays recovering alcoholic, John Reilly, who inherits an entire castle from an aunt he never knew. His wife, Susan, played by Crampton (Chopping Mall, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, You’re Next) is coming to terms with a tragic mistake John made nine months prior. While taking an inventory of the castle for liquidation, the Reilly family finds there is something much more nefarious than a wine cellar under their feet… This creature feature (which is strange to say, because the creature is a human man) is very loosely based on the H.P. Lovecraft story, The Outsider. Makeup effects were by Everett Burrell (Pan’s Labyrinth, Night of the Living Dead, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie), Mike Measimer (The Blob, Space Truckers, Demon Wind), and John Vulich (Cyborg, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5).If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.
